In his sermon titled "Christ's Last Passover," Don Bell discusses the theological significance of the Last Supper as it relates to the Passover. He outlines the preordained nature of Christ's sacrifice, drawing upon Scriptures from Mark 14 and Luke 22, emphasizing Jesus as the final Passover Lamb who fulfills Old Testament prophecies. He explains that just as the blood of the Passover lamb protected the Israelites from judgment in Egypt, Christ's sacrifice on the cross protects believers from the wrath of God. The sermon highlights the themes of betrayal, covenant, and the necessity of Christ's atoning death, invoking a deep sense of gratitude and worship among believers, while also pointing out the unwavering love of Christ for His own, demonstrated through His imminent sacrifice.

on the promiseless Boy, it's good to see everybody
out. I know some places are really
bad, so can't expect folks to get out on icy roads. But Luke,
excuse me, Mark 14. Mark 14, this is what I'd preach
last week if we'd have made it. Starting at verse 10. And Judas Iscariot, one of the
twelve, went unto the chief priests to betray him unto them. And
when they heard it, they were glad and promised to give him
money, and he sought how he might conveniently betray him. And
the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the Passover,
when his disciples said unto him, Where wilt thou that we
go, and prepare that thou mayest eat the Passover? And he sendeth
forth two of his disciples, and saith unto them, Go ye into the
city, and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water. And wheresoever he shall go in,
say ye to the good man of the house, the master saith, where
is the guest chamber where I shall eat the Passover with my disciples? And he will show you a large
upper room furnished and prepared. There make ready for us. And
his disciples went forth and came into the city and found,
as he had said unto them, and they made ready the Passover.
And in the evening he cometh with the twelve. And as they
sat and did eat, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, One of
you which eateth meat shall betray me. And they began to be sorrowful
and say unto him one by one, Is it I? And another said, Is
it I? And he answered and said unto
them it is one of the twelve that dippeth with me in the dish.
The son of man indeed go as it is written of him but woe to
that man by whom the son of man is betrayed. Good were it for
that man if he had never been born. And as they did eat Jesus
took bread and blessed and break it gave it to them and said take
eat this is my body. And he took the cup and when
he had given thanks he gave it to them and they all did And
they all drank of it, and he said unto them, this is my blood
of the New Testament, which is shed for many. Our blessed, blessed God and
Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Lord, we read about you and what
was determined to be done before the world ever began, that you
came into this world not only to live, not only to live a life
for a multitude that no man could number, but also to die, to be
the Passover lamb, to be the one that would bear our sin in
his own body on that tree, the one who would be wounded for
our transgressions, bruised for our iniquity, to have the chastisement
of our peace upon him, Oh Lord, blessed be your holy name, that
you did it out of love and obedience to your father and love for your
father. And Lord Jesus, we thank you for the love we're with you
loved us, even, even while we were dead in trespasses and sins. And then having loved your own,
you love them to the very end. Oh Lord, blessed be your name.
Blessed be your name for great love, the great mercy, the great
grace that you give us day in and day out. How you led us to
worship, and Lord, thank you for allowing us to meet here
today. Thank you for those who came
out, and Lord, we pray for those who are listening and watching
today. God, I know they couldn't make it, but please bless them,
encourage them, strengthen them, and let us worship you today
in spirit and in truth. that of all the things we do,
may we bring glory and honor to your holy name. And Father,
again, we pray for our children, our grandchildren, and the lost
among us, that you, for Christ's sake, would create in them a
need, bring them to their need of the Lord Jesus Christ. Give
them a vision of Christ, let them see the glory of Christ,
and if they see him, they'll see themselves. Lord, enable
me to speak today, enable me to be a blessing, and may the
gospel run well here for Christ's sake. Amen, amen. You notice that's last week's
bulletin. There wasn't a sense making another one. Let's all
stand together and sing the hymn of the day in the bulletin. O'er the ramparts we watched,
were so gallantly streaming? And the rocket's red glare, the
bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag
was still there. ? Then rose again ? ? On Zion's
hill ? ? Shall reign ? ? His glorious name ? ? Must long endure
? ? When sons have ceased ? to shine, and through eternity the
saints will sing His praise divine. ? As countless as the drops of
dew ? ? Are sent upon the shore ? ? Are blessings which nourish the
soul ? forevermore. Let every other
name we see his name alone bestow. In Him we serve, there is the
grace to satisfy my soul. Be seated. Now, look here with me back in
Mark 14. I want to talk about Christ's
last Passover. Our Lord, no telling how many
Passovers that He was involved in, in His life, because that
was something that God told the Israel to do every April. Nisan, the month of Nisan was
in April. And so they always had the Passover. And the Passover, of course,
started when God brought Egypt out of Israel. And he had the
Passover lamb slain. And every household had a Passover
lamb. And God said, when I see the
blood, I'll pass over you. And I tell you that feast of
unleavened bread was instituted in Egypt. But now look what it
said here in verse one. And you know, I'll tell you something
else about the Lord Jesus Christ. He was our Passover sacrifice
for us, but not a bone, not a bone of the Passover lamb was to be
broken. And our Lord Jesus Christ, when
he was on the cross, It says, you know, it told us that not
one of his bones would be broken. And they came to break the legs
of all those that were on the cross. And they came to the Lord
Jesus Christ, and he was already dead, that it might be fulfilled
that not a bone of his shall be broken. They broke the rest
of the people's bones so they'd die quicker, but not our Lord. Everything about our Savior was
minutely predicted, and every bit of it came to pass, just
exactly like it was supposed to be. And the last Passover
was the final fulfillment of the first Passover. And it said in 1 Corinthians
5, 7, Christ our Passover, Christ our Passover, our Passover, Passover
for us. God sees Him and passed over
us. And that final fulfillment of
the first Passover. And I want you to first of all
see the unreasonable hate that they showed our Lord Jesus Christ. I've dealt with these things
before, but need to look at them again. Back up here in verse
one and two, look what it says. Oh, they had unreasonable hate
for our Savior. After two days was the feast
of the Passover. Now I want you to know our Lord
waited till he got here. You know, and another thing about
the Passover, it had to be separated. Had to be separated 14 days where
there'd be no spot, no blemish in it. Well, our Lord was the
Lamb without any spot, without any blemish in Him. We know that. But after two days was the feast
of the Passover and of unleavened bread. And unleavened bread,
they'd done that for seven days, but anyway, The chief priests
and the scribes sought how they might take him by craft and put
him to death. And they said, not on the feast
day, not on the day that they have the feast of the Passover,
lest there be an uproar of the people. They sought how they
might kill him. They hated him with such a passion.
And I tell you, you know, it's hard to convince a man by nature
that he hates God. Well, here's proof that man hates
God. by nature hates God. And if God
don't slay that enmity man will die hating God. Do you know in
Revelation it talked about how that there was people when they
went to hell they gnashed on their teeth and refused to repent,
refused to acknowledge God in any way. And they sought by nature,
here's proof, and I want you to, you know, they professed
to worship Jehovah. They professed to worship the
Lord. But look over in John, chapter 15, verse 25. Look what
it says about what our Lord said over here. You know, it says, you know, they said, we
will not have this man to reign over us. And people have Christ,
they'll have Christ, but they want Christ on their terms. They
want him on their terms. They want him on their, by their
will, by their power, by their rights, by their ability, by
their chance. But look what our Lord said here
in verse John 15, 25. Look in verse 24, excuse me.
If I had not done, verse 23, I'll get it right here in a minute.
He that hateth me, hateth my father also. It's hard to believe
anybody hate Christ. But we all did at one time. And if I had not done among them
the works which none other man did, they had not had sin. But now have they both seen and
hated both me and my father. But this cometh to pass that
the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law that
they hated me without a cause. had no reason to hate him. Hated
me without a cause. And I tell you, beloved, that's
the way man is. That was from Psalm 35. But in
their hatred and planning to kill our Lord Jesus Christ, do
you know what they were doing? They were fulfilling the will
of God. They were fulfilling what Christ
had purposed for them to do. And they were planning to kill
him, and yet he was God's Passover lamb. And oh my, going to kill
the Passover, and he was God's Passover lamb. That's why John
said, behold, the lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the
world. And then look at his betrayal.
Oh, such a cruel, cruel betrayal. Down in verse 10 and 12. You know, over in Luke, it says
that Satan entered into Judas, entered into him. And the devil
always finds someone to do his wicked work. But he said in Judas
Iscariot, one of the 12 went under the chief priest to betray
him. What a cruel thing. You know,
betrayal, there's lots of ways that people betray one another.
But to betray the Son of God, women betray husbands, husbands
betray women, parents betray children. There's always somebody,
and I think the greatest, greatest betrayal that one man does to
another Is for a husband to betray his wife or his wife to betray
their husband betray their wedding vows, you know to betray One
another us as believers to betray one another to listen to gossip
listen to rumors To be told things about yourself and be things
told about you. That's not true And yet that's
what happens here. There's always a betrayal SATAN,
AND HE ENTERED INTO JUDAS, AND HE SOUGHT TO BETRAY THE LORD
JESUS CHRIST. GOD HELP US TO NEVER EVER BETRAY
OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST. GOD HELP US TO NEVER BETRAY ONE
ANOTHER. GOD HELP US TO NEVER BETRAY OUR
WEDDING VOWS. GOD HELP US TO NEVER EVER BETRAY
ONE ANOTHER. NEVER LISTEN TO GOSSIP AND RUMORS
ABOUT ONE ANOTHER. GOD HELP US TO DO THAT. BUT ANYWAY,
And when they heard it, listen to this, and when they heard
it, oh, listen, can you imagine how happy these fellows were?
Here comes a man, oh, listen, I'm one of the 12, I follow him
around, I've been around him for over three years now, and
I know where he'll be, I know what he'll be, and I know exactly
where he'll be, and I know who he'll be with. And I know where
you can get him and take him. And you can lay hands on him
and do what you want to do. You can kill him. You can kill
him. You can destroy him. You think
you can get rid of him. But oh, listen, then when they
heard it, they were glad. Oh, my. We finally found somebody
that'll help us get this man. And oh my, and they promised
to give him money. And you remember that they gave
him 30 pieces of silver. And he sought how he might conveniently,
conveniently betray him. But now look down here in verse
12. This is where I wanted to get to. And the first day of
unleavened bread, the first day. And back in the Passover that
God said, put all the leaven out of your houses. All the leaven,
and leaven, of course, means, what do y'all call it? Bacon
powder? What, bacon soda? What's something
that you put in bread to make it rise? Well, that said you
can't have that. That's not what you do. And oh,
he said, listen, the first day of unleavened bread. Leaven always
represented sin. Leaven always, Paul said, purge
out the old leaven of malice. And you know leaven, a little
leaven leavens the whole lump. And that's what he says, leaven
always represented sin, always represented all the things that's
wrong with a man. And then on the day, first day
of unleavened bread, there's seven days of unleavened bread.
This feast lasted seven days. And when they killed the Passover, you'll know what it was like
the night they killed that Passover. They had to sacrifice, in the
margin it says, sacrificed the Passover. Sacrificed. And when
they killed the Passover, his disciples, when they killed the
Passover, his disciples said unto him, Wilt thou that we go
and prepare that thou mayest eat the Passover? Oh, what a
special provision. The day came when the Passover
must be killed. And look what our Savior said
in verse 13. He sendeth forth two of his disciples. I think one place it said it
was John and Peter. I believe it's what it says in
one place. Send forth two of his disciples, and saith unto
them, Go into the city, go into Jerusalem, and there shall meet
you a man bearing a pitcher of water. So they went into the
city, he said. Now, when you see a fellow with
a pitcher of water on his shoulder, He said, you're gonna find a
fella, and he's gonna be walking down this road, he's gonna be
walking down the street, and he's gonna have a man bearing
a pitcher of water. And he said, you see that fella,
you follow him. You know, there was nobody
else gonna carry any water that day. Absolutely nobody's gonna
carry any water that day. You know why nobody else is going
to be on that street carrying water that day? Because Christ
said there's only one man going to be wearing water that day,
and that's going to be the one that I'm going to have you meet.
And there shall meet you a man. You follow him, and wheresoever
he shall go in, you watch him now. You follow him, and you're
going to stay right behind him. And wherever he shall go in,
whatever house he goes in, whatever door he goes in, listen to what
he says, say you to that good man of the house, the fellow
that runs the house. And look what he says. The master
says, the master says, listen to this, where's the guest chamber? That's all Christ will ever be
to, you know, the guest chamber. Oh, the guest chamber. That's
what, that's the way people look at him, the guest chamber. Oh,
my. I'm a guest here. I'm a guest
here. I'm not, you know, I'm a guest. And, oh, thank God that we're,
we can go in with him. And where is the guest chamber?
And listen to this now. For I shall eat the Passover
with my disciples. With my disciples. Oh, my. And look what'll happen now.
You're talking about about our Lord taking care of His own,
watching out for His own. He'll show you a large upper
room furnished and prepared. Now here's the thing, our Lord
Jesus Christ wants to eat the Passover with His children, with
His people. He ate the Passover with them
that we might have Him as our Passover. And oh my, and He said
He will show you A large upper room, it's furnished, and listen
to this, furnished. Furnished. And the upper room
has always been connected with the desk. You know, when they
was on the day of Pentecost, they was in a large upper room.
And he said, this room will be furnished and prepared. Large
upper room. And there they shall make ready
for us. And listen to this, and bake
ready for us. And his disciples went forth and came into the
city. And you know what happened? Just
exactly like he told them it'd be. Oh, and his disciples went forth,
came into the city as he had said unto them, and they made
ready the Passover, the Passover. Oh, furnished for them. furnished
for our Lord, furnished for God's Passover lamb. He was ready to
be made a sacrifice for us and our Lord Jesus Christ. Oh, how
he provides for his own people. Oh, what a blessed thing he is.
He showed them exactly who would be there and how they would think.
And you know, that tells us that our Lord knows everything that's
going to be. He was preparing Himself to die. He was preparing His disciples
for them to die with Him. Now, I want you to look with
me over in Luke chapter 22. I want you to see a few things
over here. Luke 22, about this Passover. Oh my, he went in and they met
everything would happen just exactly like our Lord said. There's
nobody, only one person would be carrying water that day. Only
one person went into a place. Only one place there was for
our Lord. Everything was purposed and prepared. All scriptures
be fulfilled. And oh my, and then he comes
down to verse 14. And let me, and when the hour
was come, He set out, and with the 12 apostles with him, he
set out. Now let me tell you this, that
you know, I didn't know this until last week, but you go into
John chapter 13, the last few verses of John, it's talking
about that they're fixed to go up and take the Lord's Supper.
And then John 14, 15, 16, and 17, All took place here at this last
supper. Everything you know and the first
thing he said to them when they went into this large upper room,
let not your heart be troubled. Don't let your heart be troubled.
And he started in John 14, let not your heart be troubled. You
believe in God, you do. Believe also in me. And then
John 15, he talked about himself. John 16, he talked about him
going away and leaving us a comforter. We wouldn't be left as orphans.
And then John 17, he prayed. He prayed here with these men.
John 17 was our Lord's prayer. And he said, Oh, Father, Holy
Father, Righteous Father, now you gave these to me, and I'm
going to lay down my life for these people. And you gave me
power over this flesh. And oh, our Lord. And so everything
that happened here, you know, we just, we just read in the
high spots. But if you go back and you look,
and then in verse eight, chapter 18, it says, and they arose,
and they arose. And that's when they started
toward the garden, after they'd done that. And oh my. And he sat down, the hours come,
The hour, oh, our Lord says, my hour's not yet. My hour's
not yet. How many times did he say that
in his life? My hour's not yet come. My, but
the hour's come. The hour's come. The hour for
our Lord to come. It's come. It's come. And there's an hour when he comes
to us. Bless his name. Then look what he said. And he
sat down. Ain't that one, ain't that something?
Sat down with the 12. Our Lord sat down with his 12
disciples. Oh, to sit down where Christ
is. To sit down. You know, one time
he was sitting down and Mary came and sat down at his feet. And she sat down with her head
propped on his legs and listened to what he had to say. Oh, Mary. And I tell you what he goes on
to say. Oh, my. And then he says, he said unto
them, with desire, with desire, have I desired to eat this Passover
with you before I suffer. And this with desire means intense
longing to eat this Passover. And look what it says, with desire,
with intense longing to eat this Passover with you, listen, watch
this, before I suffer. Now, that's what he told them. He said, before I suffer, I long,
I long to have this. And the awful shadow, he's sitting
here with his disciples, sitting down with them, told them, I
intensely desire to have this, to have an intense longing to
eat this Passover with you. And I tell you, the shadow of
the cross is on him, and he loved his own. Oh, how he loved his
own. He said, there's already this
passover with you before I suffer. You know, having loved his own,
he loved him unto the end. And I want you, you know, and
look what he said here. With desire, with desire, intense longing, Passover before
I suffer, before I suffer. And look what says down now in
verse 17. And he took the cup and gave thanks and said, take
this and divide it among yourselves. Now there's two cups here I want
to mention, two cups. There's the fellowship of his
suffering. Look what he says. Divided among yourselves. I'm
gonna suffer. There's two cups here. The fellowship
of his sufferings. Oh my. You know, we suffer some
in this world, not very much, not very much at all. I know
that suffering's a relative, I understand that. But the fellowship
of his sufferings, he said, divided among yourselves, to have fellowship
with the sufferings of Christ, to be called to suffer with Christ,
to be called to suffer with the Lord Jesus Christ. And I tell
you what, there's gonna be plenty of suffering for every one of
us in this life. And that's okay. He gives every
one of us a cup. Every soul that He's ever saved,
He gives them a cup. And you know, every once in a
while, He'll put some bitterness in that cup. Every once in a
while, He'll put some trial in that cup. Every once in a while,
He'll put some suffering in that cup. Every once in a while, He'll
put some pain in that cup. Every once in a while, He'll
put a trial in that cup. And I'll tell you, you know what?
He says, my father giveth me this cup. Ain't it a wonderful,
blessed thing that the father gives us this cup? Give us this
cup. And oh my, and there's plenty
for all, not too much for anybody. And oh my, two cups here. The cup that he drank and we
drank in the fellowship of his suffering. And it's not too much
for anyone. We give thanks. We give thanks
for being with him as he gave thanks, as he gave thanks. And
then look, what a blessed, blessed, merciful, merciful substitution. And oh my, he said, take this
cup, take this cup, give thanks, take this and divide it among
yourselves. And then he said in verse 19,
And he took bread, and gave thanks, and break it, and gave unto them,
saying, This is my body, which is given for you, given for you. This do in remembrance of me.
Likewise also the cup and supper, which this cup is the New Testament,
my blood. Now look what he says, you talk
about substitution, that's what I see here, substitution. My
body, he took the bread and said, my body, this is my body which
is given for you. My body which is given for you.
And then he says there, my blood in verse 20, my blood, this is
my blood which is shed for you. And oh, I want you to look with
me, keep this and look in Hebrews chapter 10. With me, Hebrews
chapter 10. You know the body, my body which
is given for you. Why did our Lord have a body?
A lot of people didn't think that our Lord had a body. He
was just a spirit. But look what it says here in
Hebrews 10, 1. For the law, God's law, all the
ceremonies, all the rituals, all the sacrifices, all the priesthood,
all the tabernacle, and all the things of the tabernacle, for
the law having a shadow of good things to come. And oh, what
good things came. Christ came. Grace came. Mercy came. Eternal love came. The Lamb came. Salvation came. Not the very image of the things.
They're not the very image of the things and can never, with
those sacrifice which they offered year by year, continually make
the comers there unto perfect. Oh, when they had those sacrifices
year by year, it just reminded people they were sinners. For
then would they not have ceased to be offered? Because that the
worshipers once purged, if you'd have really had your sins purged,
you'd have no more conscience of sin. But in those sacrifices,
there's remembrance again made of sins every year. For it's
not possible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away
sins. Without the shedding of blood,
there is no remission of sins. Wherefore now listen to this
now Wherefore when he cometh into the world he said Sacrifice
an offering thou wouldest not now listen to it, but a body
has thou prepared me Why did he prepare him a body? Why did
he prepare him a body? Because all the burnt offerings
and all the sacrifice of sin never satisfied But now look
down here in verse And they said, oh, that will, that will that
has prepared a body for me. Then he said in verse 10, by
the witch will, we are sanctified through the offering, listen
to this, of the body, the body of Jesus Christ, once for all.
This is my body. This is my body. And look what
he says now. It's given for you, you, every
individual, for the person, they themselves, for you, for you. And God said, you know, and he
said, this is my blood, which is shed for you. Without the
shedding of blood, no remission. And then God said, when I see
the blood, I'll pass over you. Now, when they stood before the
mercy seat in the tabernacle, that high priest, when he, on
the day of atonement, Every year they'd take a basin of blood
and he'd go behind the veil in that mercy seat, that mercy seat
behind the veil, and he'd go in that mercy seat and he'd sprinkle
on that mercy seat Seven times seven times his sprinkle blood
dip it in the blood sprinkle dip it in the blood sprinkle
seven times on that mercy seat Christ our mercy seat that's
what that is our propitiation and then he had take the blood
and he had sprinkled it seven times on Right in front of that
mercy seat that you got to have perfection before you can even
come and it's seven is Perfection he had put that blood before
him and then he'd be able to stand before God because the
blood was on the mercy seat the blood was before the mercy seat
and Christ is our mercy seat because of his blood we can stand
perfect before God and because of his blood we have remission
of our sins and never have to have another sacrifice and EVER
AGAIN. AND OH MY. AND GOD CAN RIGHTEOUSLY
NOW PASS BY ALL WHO BELIEVE IN THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. AND OUR
LORD SAYS DO THIS IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME. IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME. I AM SO THANKFUL THAT I DON'T
HAVE TO TAKE BLOOD AND WINE. I DON'T HAVE TO TAKE UNLEAVENED
BREAD AND WINE TO REMEMBER THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. OH MY. I don't have to do that to remember
him. I remember when it was lost and he found me. I remember when
I was dead and he gave me life. I remember when I was blind and
he gave me sight. I remember when I was deaf and
he gave me hearing. Oh, I don't have to have bread
and wine to remember him. Oh my, I remember the first time
he ever taught me his gospel. The first time he ever gave me
a glimpse of the Lord Jesus Christ on his cross. And I saw him bearing
my sins and mine alone. I didn't care about anybody else's
sins. It was my sins that I had to face God for. It was my sins
that I had to see Christ on the cross bearing. My sin, my sin
alone. I remember, and I think I've
told you this, there was a deacon in 13th Street Baptist Church
when Henry Mahan pastored there for over 50 years. And one of
the deacons, been a deacon there for a long time, a wonderful
man, wonderful man. He was a generous man, a very
loving man. But he was going up to Columbus
to buy some cars to bring back. And while he was going up through
there, he was listening to a message. And he had been a deacon in that
church for a long time. And while he was driving up there,
he heard a message on Christ and Christ's death and Christ's
substitutionary death. And he said, while I was going
on that trip, he said, I finally saw Christ on that cross bearing
my sin, bearing my sin. And he had to go and tell the
pastor. And that congregation had to have been a deacon. I
just now saw Christ. I just now saw Christ bearing
my sin. And I tell you, I didn't know
he'd ever bear my sin. And I saw him bearing my sin.
And he had to get up for that congregation after being a deacon. I've been lost. And now I see
Christ bearing my sin. And that's how salvation comes,
it's seeing Christ. It's not seeing the neighbor,
not seeing your husband, not seeing your wife, it's seeing
Christ. And when you see Christ, then
that's why he said, this is my body broken, given for you, for
you. This is my blood which is shed
for you. And had he not shed that blood,
had he not offered that body, there'd be not a soul saved on
the face of this earth. And I'll tell you this, everyone
for whom Christ died, when he said for you, ever for you that
he died for, they will be saved. No doubt about it. When our Lord
said, I shed the blood for you, if he shed his blood for you,
you'll be a saved man one of these days. But I wouldn't wait. You people say, well, I'll wait
until I know. Listen, do you know you're a sinner? Do you
know you're without God, you're without hope, without Christ
in this world? Oh my, this is my body, my body. Peter said he himself bore our
sins in his own body on the tree, on the tree. Oh my. God have mercy. And I'll tell
you. Did anybody here need something
to remind them of the grace of Christ? Anybody here need something
to remind them that Christ gives grace, that Christ loves his
own, that Christ gave himself, that Christ shed his blood, that
it's the blood of Christ that cleanses from all our sin? Here's
the problem with most people is, is they don't have a need. I've been a good person all my
life. I've been nice. I've been good.
I'm a good wife. I'm a good husband. I'm a good
neighbor. Well, I'm glad you're all those
things. But here's the thing about it. Christ said he gives
his body. Do you see that broken body?
Do you see that shed blood? We sing that song, there is a
fountain filled with blood drawn from Emmanuel's veins. And listen
to this, this is the kicker. And sinners plunge beneath that
flood. What happens to them? They lose
all their guilty stains. Guilty stains. Oh, I had so much
guilt. Oh, I still, oh, I had so much
guilt. But then look here, what an infallible
prophecy. Look what it says in verse 21
and 22, 23, excuse me. I'm still in Luke now. And he
says, behold, the hand of him that betrays
me is with me on the table. Sitting there eating with the
Lord, sitting down at the table. And that betrayer's got his hand
on the table. And listen to this now. And truly
the Son of Man goes as it was determined. You know, Revelations 13a says
Christ was a lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
You keep looking, look with me in Acts chapter 2. Look with
me in Acts chapter 2. Look in verse 22 and 23 with me, Acts
2. Ye men of Israel, Peter's preaching
now on the day of Pentecost. Ye men of Israel, hear these
words. Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved
of God, the only man that's ever been approved of God, the only
man that God ever set his approval on, of God among you by miracles
and wonders and signs, which God did by him right in the middle
of all of you. And you know it, you know it.
And listen to this, him being delivered by the determined counsel
and foreknowledge of God. God Almighty, He said, I'm going
to go like it's been determined for me to go. I come into this
world knowing that I was going to go to a cross, knowing that
I was going to be delivering the hands of sinful men, and
by wicked hands have crucified and slain. And look over in chapter 4. Look in verse 25, talking about
infallible prophecy. The Son of Man goes as is determined
of Him. Who by the mouth of thy servant
David hath said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people
imagine vain things? The kings of the earth stood
up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord and
against His Christ. For of a truth, against thy holy
child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate,
with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were gathered together. Listen to this now. For to do
whatsoever thy hand and counsel determined to be done. That cross was not an afterthought,
God determined. He said, the Son of Man goes
as it was determined. And I tell you what, and they
began to inquire among themselves, back over in our text, God makes
the wrath of man to praise Him. And that's what I just read to
you. Those fellows, they thought they was doing God's service.
But man's unbelief and wickedness shall never, never make the Son
of God without any effect. And they began to inquire among
themselves, in verse 23, which of them it was that should do
this thing. You know, I'll tell you something
about God's people, and every one of them are this way. There's
two things they're afraid of. Afraid of being a hypocrite.
Nobody wants to be a hypocrite. Well, I should say not just that,
but self-righteousness, and they're afraid. that they know their
own self and their own inability, and they know that if God don't
keep them, they will betray the Lord Jesus Christ. And I tell
you what, you say, I wouldn't do it. Well, Peter said he wouldn't
either, but he did. And you know, when he talked
about the first Passover, when Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed
for us, come to kill the Passover, At first, Passover accomplished
God's purpose. You know what it did? It brought
Israel up out of Egypt. With blood and power, God saw
the blood and passed over them, told them to have their clothes
on, told them to have their shoes on their feet and get ready to
leave this world. And then when Christ washes us
in his blood and had his, and bore our sins in his own body, We're ready. We're dressed, ready
to go. And this last Passover, our Lord
Jesus Christ, it served his purpose. He brought us out of bondage.
It brought us from sin to righteousness, from death to life, and from sin's awful, awful bondage,
from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of the son of
his dear light. Christ, our Passover, the last
Passover. And you know, I don't want to
take no more time, but over in John chapter 19, it says over
there that the Jews wouldn't go in Pilate's judgment hall
lest they not be able to eat the Passover. Lest they not be
able to eat the Passover. We can't go in there and take
part of this. We won't be able to eat the Passover. All right. Our Father, in the blessed name
of our Lord Jesus Christ, thank you for thy great mercy, for
thy great grace, for thy great patience, for thy great longsuffering. And Lord Jesus, we're especially,
especially grateful to you that this body, that body that you
had, you gave it to us on the cross. You gave yourself. For
us, you gave yourself for our sin. You gave yourself that we
might be made righteous. You gave yourself that we might
be clothed, charred with the preparation of the gospel. And
Lord Jesus, we thank you for that blood that was shed, that
washed us from our sins, cleansed us from all unrighteousness,
washed our souls and made us white, washed our robes in the
blood, made them white as snow. And oh Lord, blessed be your
holy name. Bless these dear saints. Meet the needs of their home,
meet the needs of their hearts, meet the needs of them who listen
today. Bring glory to yourself through us. Have mercy, mercy,
mercy on our children and grandchildren for Christ's sake. Amen, amen. Turn your eyes upon Jesus. Look full in his wonderful face. And the things of earth will
grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace. Well, we won't have service tonight
because if it thaws out a little today, it'll be slicker than
ever tonight. So I'll see you Wednesday night.
