All our griefs and griefs to bear What a privilege to carry Everything to God in prayer. Oh, what peace we often forfeit. Oh, what needless pain we bear. All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer. Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere? We should never be discouraged. Take it to the Lord in prayer. Can we find a friend so faithful? Who will all our sorrows share? Jesus knows Take it to the Lord
in prayer. Comfort with a load of care. Precious Savior, still our refuge. Take it to the Lord in prayer Do thy friends despise forsake Take it to the Lord in prayer. If you have your Bibles with
you this evening, I'd like to Read John chapter 15. John chapter 15. I started out, I was gonna read
John chapter 14, and I got to the end, and I didn't wanna stop
at the end of the chapter, so we're gonna read chapter 15.
But John chapter 14, verse one, let not your heart be troubled.
You believe in God, believe also in me. Verse six, Jesus saith unto him,
I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man cometh unto
the Father but by me. Verse 15, if ye love me, keep
my commandments. We'll see some of those here
in just a few minutes. Chapter 15, I am the true vine, and my
father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth
not fruit, he taketh away, and every branch that beareth fruit,
he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. Now you are
clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. Abide
in me and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit
of itself except it abide in the vine, no more can ye except
ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches. He that abideth in me and I in
him, the same bringeth forth much fruit. For without me ye
can do nothing. If a man abide not in me, he
is cast forth as a branch and is withered, and men gather them
and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. If ye abide
in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will,
and it shall be done unto you. Herein is my Father glorified,
that ye bear much fruit, so shall ye be my disciples. As the Father hath loved me,
so have I loved you. Continue ye in my love. If ye
keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love, even as I have
kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. These
things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you,
and that your joy might be full. This is my commandment, that
ye love one another as I have loved you. Greater love hath
no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. Henceforth I call
you not servants, for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth.
But I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard
of my father I have made known unto you. Ye have not chosen
me, but I have chosen you. and ordained you, that ye should
go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain,
that whatsoever ye shall ask of my Father in my name, he may
give it to you. These things I command you, that
ye love one another, If the world hate you, you know that it hated
me before you. If you were of the world, the
world would love his own. But because you are not of the
world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the
world hateth you. Remember the word that I said
unto you, the servant is not greater than his lord. If they
have persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they have
kept my saying, they will keep yours also. But all these things
will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know
not him that sent me. If I had not come and spoken
unto them, they had not had sin. But now they have no cloak for
their sin. He that hateth me, hateth my
father also. If I had not done among them
the works which none other man did, they had not had sin. But
now have they both seen and hated, both me and my father. But this
cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled, that is written
in their law, they hated me without a cause. But when the Comforter
is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the
spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify
of me. And he also shall bear witness,
because you have been with me from the beginning. Our most merciful God almighty, all righteous,
all powerful, we come to you through your blessed son once
more. Lord, we thank you for being
our intercessor. Thank you for taking these feeble utterings of sinful flesh making them perfect and heard
unto God the Father. Lord, we're just saying that
you are our great friend. And we just read that you call
us friend. And we thank you for that. No friend in this world like
unto thee. Lord, we thank you for this word,
this blessed truth. Thank you for the gospel message
that's held within the word. Lord, we thank you for men who
you have called to be pastors, to study this word, stand before
your sheep and proclaim it plainly, boldly, freely, Lord, what an
honor and a privilege it is to be gathered anywhere, but to
be gathered here. Lord, we thank you for our pastor.
We thank you for the saints who are gathered out. Thank you for
those who are not with us, Lord, but who are
listening with us. They're praying with us right
now. They're watching and they're
listening. Lord, pray that you would send your Holy Spirit,
our great comforter. Lord, send it among us and among
them who are unable to be here. Lord, we know you fill our infirmities
and our weaknesses. You know our needs more so than
we do. Lord, we trust that you will provide. Pray that you would
continue to do so. Pray for mercy and grace for
those who are weak and weary. Lord, we all need your mercy
and we all need your grace. But there are some who, most
exceptionally, need your mercy and your grace now. Lord, we ask that you would send
your spirit Cause us to worship you in spirit and in truth, as
we just read. Let us not meet in vain. Let's
not meet for prideful reasons or vain show. Lord, if anybody be here for
that, strip it away. I ask that you would teach us thy
way, Lord. Pray that you would keep us. Keep us from this world. Keep
us from ourselves. Cause us to focus on you for
a little while. Keep us as we go through our
week. Lord, pray for this congregation,
this town, this state, and this nation, and this world. I pray
that your word would go forth. Cause it to be fruitful according
to thy will for thy name's sake. We ask that thy will be done
for Christ's sake, amen. M number 75. Number 75. Abide with me, fast falls the
eventide. The darkness deepens, Lord, with
me abide. When other helpers fail and comforts
flee, Help of the helpless, O abide with me. Swift to its close ebbs out life's
little day. Earth's joys grow dim, its glories
pass away. Change and decay in all around
I see. O Thou who changest not, abide
with me. I need Thy presence every passing
hour. What but Thy grace can For the
tempter's power Who, like Thyself, my guidance day can be Through
cloud and sunshine, O abide with me Hold thou thy word before my
closing eyes, shine through the gloom and point me to the skies. Heaven's morning breaks and earth's
vain shadows bleed. In life, in death, O Lord, abide
with me. Just look in Leviticus chapter
5. I love these flowers. Who brought
them? They're just lovely. Beautiful. Just absolutely lovely. Just cheers me up looking at
them. It does. It does. I mean, look how much
it... As welcome as the flowers of
May. I appreciate that. Do you do
that, Marlene? Thank you. Thank you very much. I'll start reading here in verse
15 to the end of the chapter. And the Lord spake unto Moses,
saying, If a soul commit a trespass, and sin through ignorance in
the holy things of the Lord, then he shall bring for his trespass
unto the Lord a ram without blemish, out of the flocks, with thy estimation,
by shekels of silver, after the shekel of the sanctuary, for
a trespass offering. And he shall make amends for
the harm that he hath done in the holy thing, and shall add
the fifth part thereto, and give it unto the priest. And the priest
shall make atonement for him with the ram of the trespass
offering, and it shall be forgiven him. And if a soul sin and commit
any of those things which are forbidden to be done by the commandments
of the Lord, though he wish it not, yet he is guilty, and shall
bear his iniquity. And he shall bring a ram without
blemish out of the flock with high estimation for a trespass
offering unto the priest, and the priest shall make an atonement
for him concerning his ignorance wherein he erred, and wished
it not, and it shall be forgiven him. It is a trespass offering
he has certainly trespassed against the Lord." I know it's been a
long time since I've dealt with these. You know, there's six,
five of these offerings, and I've already dealt with the meat
offering or meal offering, which was Christ in His life, His perfect,
sinless life. And the burnt offering was our
Christ as satisfied. That burnt offering was for God.
First and foremost, it was for God. it appeased His wrath, satisfied
His justice, upheld His righteousness. So that was what the burn offering
was for, on the altar of the brazen altar, and they d put
that burn offering on there, and they d consume it completely.
God got all of it, God got all of it. and that was to satisfy
His justice and appease His wrath, take His wrath off of us. And
then there was the SIN OFFERING, the third offering was the SIN
OFFERING, and that was Christ our SUBSTITUTE. He offered Himself
without SPOT and without BLEMISH before God. He appeared once
in the end of the world to put away sin by the sacrifice of
Himself. So the sin offering was Christ
as our substitute taking our place. He Himself bore our sin
in His own body on the tree. Bless His name. I thank God that
we had somebody that put our sin away once and for all. Oh,
bless His name. And then there was the peace
offering. There was the peace offering. Christ is our peace. Ephesians 4, verse 30 says, Christ
is our peace. Christ made peace through the
blood of His cross, and that means that He made peace between
us and God. You know, we couldn t make peace
with God. It s impossible for us to make
peace with God. Christ made peace with God. God
Christ made the peace with God, and the only way in the world
we can have peace with God is through Christ's blood and righteousness,
reconciling us to God. We was the one that was wrong,
God wasn't wrong, so we had to be reconciled, had to be brought
to be one with God, and only the Lord Jesus Christ and His
offering could bring us, and the blood of His cross brought
PEACE between man and God. You know, here's God up here,
here's man down here. The Lord Jesus Christ brought
us together by the blood of His blessed cross and by what He
did and made us at peace with God Himself, established peace
between us and God. He done it, we didn't make the
peace, He did. And now we have peace with God,
how? Through our Lord Jesus Christ.
And tonight I wanna, this'll be the last one. This is the
Trespass Offering. The Trespass Offering. I hope
I can explain this right. You know, the difference between
the Sin Offering and the Trespass Offering. The Sin Offering was
for the nature of sin. That's what we are. Sin Offering,
for our nature, for our sin. It's the nature of sin, what
we are. And the Trespass Offering is for the sins of what we do. One was for the nature of sin.
One was for the FRUIT of sin, one's for what we was, one the
trespass offerings for what we do, and the FRUIT of our sin,
and that's what it is. And the blood of Christ meets
the ROOT of sin. Now that's the difference in
what we believe and Armenians believe. Armenians want you to,
teaches you that you can overcome sin and quit sin and have to
overcome sin. Well, we can't do that! So the
root of sin, our nature, sin nature, has to be dealt with.
How can that be dealt with? Only through Christ and His blood.
He dealt with the sin of our, we were born sinners, you know,
by one man, sin entered into this world, and death passed
upon all men for all have sinned. So Christ, He took our sin upon
Himself, and He dealt with the root of sin. The root of it. God did not hold sin against
us anymore. But yet we still have this fallen
nature, and this fallen nature, though the sin itself has been
dealt with, but we still, as believers, sin. And that's what the Trespass
Offering is about, not what we ARE, but what we DO. Christ dealt
with what we ARE in the Sin Offering. The Trespass Offering takes care
of what we DO, like we was talking about this morning. get into
tirade, you know. It s a little bitty thing that
upsets us, but oh, let me deal with this. And I tell you, the
blood of Christ not only meets the root of sin in the flesh,
but it meets ALL and provides for EVERYTHING for the FRUIT,
the sins produced by that nature of sin in us. And I want to look
at a few things here. First of all, this trespass offering
takes care for our sin of ignorance. Look down here in verse 17. takes
care of our sins of ignorance. And if a soul sin and commend
any of those things which are forbidden to be done by the commandments
of the Lord, though he wished it not, yet he is guilty and
shall bear his iniquity. And it says down in verse 18
in the last part of the verse, For him concerned his ignorance
wherein he erred, and wished not, and then he said, He shall
be forgiven him. So where are our sins of ignorance?
Now listen, let me tell you something, we all got reasoning powers,
we all got minds, we reason things out, and we can deal with things
and deal with issues, but our reason or our conscience, either
one, can determine what sin is, it can t do it. The only thing
that can determine what sin is, is the Word of God. I can t determine
what it is, you can t determine what it is, reason can t and
conscience can t, only the Word of God can. And God said if you
even commit a sin of ignorance and you re not conscious that
you did it. I wonder how many of them we
ve done. But oh, here s what I you know what we re to obey?
The revealed will of God. This is what we re to obey, the
revealed will of God. God s Blessed Book, not our reason,
not our conscience, but the revealed will of God. That s what we are
to obey. We may not know all of it, but
when we find out that we have sinned, what do we do? We confess
it. Do you remember what the Apostle
Paul said when God put him in the ministry? He said, I was
injurious, I was a persecutor, I was injurious, but I did it
IGNORANTLY in UNBELIEF. But YET, YET he had to be forgiven,
YET he had to have his sin put away, YET he had to be dealt
with. And I tell you, listen, we have so many sins that we're
not conscious of, that's why we go around saying, Lord, have
mercy on me constantly. Lord, forgive me. We even ask
Him to forgive us of THOUGHTS that we have. even thoughts we
have, and FEELINGS we have, and ATTITUDES we have. And then look
what else it says down here in chapter 6, If we sin against
our neighbor, sin of ignorance, and then against our neighbor,
look what he said, And the LORD spake unto Moses, chapter 6,
Now if a soul sin, and commit a trespass against the LORD,
and lie unto his neighbor, And then that which was delivered
unto him, Lord, to keep. Your neighbor gives you something
to keep for him. You say, I lost it. I can't find it. And you
lie to him because you want to keep it. And that's what he said. And then you're in fellowship.
You have fellowship with him. You get along with him well.
And then you go and take something away from him by violence. You
go and just take it away from him. Or if you've deceived your
neighbor, or have found that which was lost. Your neighbor
lost something. And you say, boy, I found it. Finders keepers,
losers weepers. I found it and I'm gonna keep
it. It was mine. I found it. And he lies concerning
it. And not only that, but swears
falsely. And in all these things that
a man doth, he sins therein. And he said it's a trespass offering
against the Lord. Now brethren, no matter what
you do to your neighbor. And I don't care what you do
to your neighbor, how you treat your neighbor, your neighbor
treats you. If there's any sin that you sin against the neighbor,
and we're all neighbors, we're neighbors, right here, right
now. And I tell you, if you sin against God, if you sin against
a neighbor, you actually sin against the Lord. It's a trespass
offering against the Lord when you mistreat your neighbor. That's
what he just said. And I tell you, it's like Saul
on the Damascus Road. Saul was hating Christ and he
was gonna go get people and put them in jail until Christ put
him down on the Damascus Road. He said, Saul, Saul, why persecutest
thou me? So if you mistreat a neighbor,
Christ says you're trespassing against me. That's what he says. And since against our neighbor,
brethren, is sin against the Lord. And then, oh, let me show
you something now. Sins of ignorance. Oh, ain't
you grateful that we got an atonement? Then it says that in verse 18,
it shall be forgiven him if it's a sin of ignorance. Sin of ignorance. You know, I was counting the
times in this chapter here where it says he shall be forgiven
him. You know how many times it said he shall be forgiven
him? Four times. four times. First we got a high
priest and we got an offering, and we got a high priest to offer
it, and we got a Savior that accepts it. But now listen, look
at all the provision that God makes for our sins. Look over
here in chapter 5 and start at verse 7 with me, all the promises
God makes for our sins. and PROVISIONS, the PROVISIONS,
I shouldn't say PROMISES, the PROVISIONS, what He provides
for us for our sin. And here's a man, and if he makes
a trespass offering, it's said in verse 6, if he makes a trespass
offering unto the LORD, and if he be not able to bring a lamb,
then he shall bring for his trespass which he hath committed two turtle
doves, or two young pigeons, unto the LORD. And then he goes
on down and he says in verse 8, And he shall bring them unto
the priest for the sin offering, ring his neck. Look down in verse
9, no excuse me, now down in verse
10, trespass offering. He talked about how all the different
things that you could bring. Then he got down here in verse
11, look what he says. But if he be not able to bring
two turtledoves, or two young pigeons, then he that sins shall
bring for his offering the tenth part of an ephah, a fine flower,
for a sin offering. Don't put no oil on it, neither
shall he put any frankincense thereon, for it is a sin offering."
And what He's telling us here is that no matter how wealthy
you are or how poor you are, God makes a offering, makes a
provision for you to offer. If you ain't got a lamb, get
you two pigeons. If you ain't got two pigeons,
get you two doves. If you ain't got pigeons and
doves, you can't afford them, I tell you what, I know you got
some flour in your house. He said, you get you the 10th
part of an ephah. Now you take an ephah, it's 23
quarts, and you take a 10th part of that, just get you a handful
of Flower and give it to the priest and God said that's enough
Now you can be poor as a church mouse But if you got some flour
God said I'll accept it you got a lamb I'll accept that you got
pearl doves I'll accept that you got pigeons I'll accept that
and if you ain't got any of those said you just bring me a handful
of flour and and I'll accept it for your trespass offer."
Now, oh, what God provides for us, I mean, listen, I don't care
who you are, how wealthy you are, how poor you are, God himself
said that, you see, the thing is that offering is for the one
offering it. It ain't for everybody, it's
just the one offering it. You may have the weakest faith
and say, oh, I ain't got nothing, oh, listen, but it don't take
great faith to get a five-pack thing of flour and give it. And
I tell you, weak faith grabs hold of a strong, blessed, almighty
Savior who has put away all of our sin by the sacrifice of Himself. Oh my, no matter, no matter how
poor the offender, the sinner, the full power, whether it's
a lamb or a handful of flour, the value and power of that sacrifice
was charged to them. And oh my, our faith, though
it may be the weakest at all, sometimes it don't seem like
we got it, but it lays hung on a strong, glorious Redeemer.
And let me tell you, there's no degrees in justification.
The fellow that brought a lamb, he ain't no more justified than
the fellow that brought that handful of flour. No degrees
in justification. Well, I'm more justified, I bought
a better offering. No, no, no, no, no. God said,
He went down the list. If you can't afford that, you
know, and in fact, in the offering for the leper, it got down to
where people, if they couldn't afford a sacrifice, you get two
sparrows, two sparrows, two little old sparrows. And God said he
would accept those sparrows. Now I tell you what, and accept
it for a leper. You talking about God's provided
for ever, ever sin we could ever possibly commit, God's provided
us an offering for it, an offering for it. And oh my, listen to
this now. Now the believer can sin, there's
no doubt about that, we understand that. Look here in Leviticus
5.5. And it shall be when he shall
be guilty in one of these things that he shall confess that he
has sinned in that thing. A believer can sin if he sins.
You know how John said it? He said, little children, I write
unto you that you sin not. But if any man sins, We have
an advocate, we got a lawyer, we got SOMEBODY to take up our
case and cause before God! Jesus Christ the Righteous! That's who it is. Oh my, ain't
you grateful that God even provided a way for us when we sin, and
in this old flesh, and in this old fallen nature that we got,
that God provides us a sacrifice, and provides us a way to take
care of our sin, and every single one of them is concerning the
Lord Jesus Christ. Little children, I write unto
you, don't sin! But if you do, We got an advocate, we got one
in the presence of God Himself, and He gets up there, and I tell
you, the only people in the world that He takes a case from, guilty
people. Huh? Oh, He said if we confess,
He's faithful and just to forgive us our sins. And here's the thing,
that Our Lord, when we sin, He don't
mention us. I'm telling you, He don't mention
us. Satan may go up there and say, Do you see what he did?
Do you see what he did? And he's the accuser of the brethren.
But our Lord Jesus Christ will just go up there and say, Father,
I done paid for that. I atoned
for that. I shed my blood for that. I died for that. I endured your
wrath for that. I satisfied your justice for
that. And He don't even mention our
name. The only thing that appears in the presence of God that God
will accept is Christ Himself. Ain't you grateful for that? Wouldn't you hate to go there
on your own merit, on your own worth, and try to convince God
to forgive you for something you said or done? Your prayer wouldn't get above
your head. Oh my. I tell you what, we're no longer
in sin. Look with me in 1 John. Now keep Leviticus. Look in 1
John chapter three. Look in 1 John chapter three. You know, we're no longer in
sin, but sin is still in us, still in us. So you see, a believer,
and I know folks that don't believe this, and I don't know how in
the world they cannot, a believer has two natures, and before he's
saved by the grace of God he has one nature, And sin never
bothered him, never had any trouble with it. But when God saves him
and regenerates him, a war starts right then and there. Paul said,
I see a war in my members. That that I would do, I don't.
That that I hate, I do. Who is it that does it? It's
not me, but it's a sin that's in me. Oh, wretched man that
I am. I know that in me and my flesh
dwells no good thing. But oh my, so we got two natures. When I was lost, I didn't give
a flip about nothing. You didn't either. Sin didn't
bother you. But once you get converted, that's when you start
having problems. You know, when a person gets
converted, generally for about the first six, two months or
something like that, I mean, he's on cloud nine. I mean, he's
just floating around. He just, oh, this is the greatest
thing. And then all of a sudden, one day he gets up and he's,
oh my goodness, I can't believe I just done that. And then he
finds out, you know, he's still got sin in him. And it shocks
him. What am I gonna do? I may not even be saved doing
that. If I do that, say that, and act
that way, I may not even be saved. And that happens to almost all
of us when we've only been saved just a few months. It happens
to about every one of us. Happened to me, I'm sure it's
happened to you. I'd question myself and I'd say, how could
I possibly save and do that? Think that, act that way. But
oh my, and I found out that I got two of me, there's two of me.
There's a righteous of me and there's a sinful me. There's
a spiritual me and there's a fleshly me. And I think I can show you
that from the scriptures. Look here at 1 John chapter 3
and verse 9. Whosoever is born of God doth
not commit sin. Now a lot of people say they
commit sin, but it means don't commiteth, don't keep on keeping
on, but that's not what it said. Whosoever is born of God doth
not commit sin. Why not? because his seed remaineth
in him, and he cannot sin because he's born of God. Now what's
that talking about? That's talking about the seed
of Christ being born again, not a corruptible seed, but incorruptible
by the word of God that liveth and abideth forever. God puts
a seed in us when he regenerates us and he saves us and he puts
the seed of Christ in us. THE NATURE OF CHRIST IN US, WE
ARE NEW CREATURES IN CHRIST, AND THAT NEW NATURE IN THERE,
THAT NEW NATURE CANNOT SIN, AND THAT'S WHY THE OLD NATURE JUST
CANNOT DO NOTHING BUT SIN, BUT WHY WE HAVE TROUBLES BECAUSE
THAT NEW NATURE IN THERE CANNOT SIN, AND THAT'S THE ONE THAT'S
GOING TO INHERIT IN CORRUPTION ONE OF THESE DAYS. BUT NOW LET
ME SHOW YOU SOMETHING ELSE, NOW LOOK OVER IN GALATIANS CHAPTER
5, LOOK IN GALATIANS CHAPTER 5. And you know, it's an amazing
thing to me. You know, it's just, we know
this, we know this by experience and what the scriptures tells
us. But look what he said here in Galatians 5, 17. Well, look
in verse 16, this I say then, walk in the Spirit, and watch
what it says there, Spirit is capitalized. How do you walk
in the Spirit? Well, because you obey the Word
of God, you follow the Spirit of God, you have the Spirit of
Christ in you, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
You walk according to what God says, and walk according to the
Spirit of God, and look what it says, for the flesh lusts
against the Spirit. That word lust means war, that's
what it means, it means war. That s what that word means,
lust means war. And the flesh wars against the
Spirit, and that s capitalized again, against the Holy Spirit.
And the Spirit, the Holy Spirit, against the flesh, and these
are absolute opposites, they re contrary to one to another.
And you cannot do the things that you would. And that's exactly
what Paul said in Romans chapter 7. The things that I wouldn't
do, that's what I do. We cannot do what we would. Paul
said, the will is present with me, but how to perform, I find
not. We all got the will to be as
holy and sinless and perfect as we can be in this world. We
all have a will and a desire to live for God and absolutely
keep this flesh, keep it subdued. That's the will, that's the will
we have. But our problem is we don't know
how to perform it. And that's why the gospel's so
precious to us. That's why the gospel's so precious
to us. Oh my. We're one person, yet we have
these two natures. And if you feed the flesh, then
the flesh is gonna rule you. You feed the spiritual, and the
spiritual will be your master. That's why you can't serve two
masters. And that's, you know, and that's why, that's why we're
here tonight to hear the gospel. That's why we're here tonight,
to study the Word of God. Because these things instruct
us and teach us and show us how desperately, desperately we need
Christ. Because we are just absolutely
a mess. Huh? I told you before, I'm sorry
for being so sorry. I get, you know, I get wore out
with myself. Oh my, well what in the world,
what are we going to do? He said, Be not deceived, God's
not mocked. Oh, if you walk after the flesh, you'll reap of the flesh. If
you walk after the Spirit, you'll reap the things of the Spirit.
You cannot do both things at the same time. And oh, what are
we going to do? What are we going to do? If we confess, and that's what
He said, you know, confess, that's what He said, you know, if a
man sin, confess. How did he confess? He brought
an offering. How do we confess our sin? We
bring Christ. We plead Christ. We plead His
blood. We plead His righteousness. We
plead His work. We plead His merit. We have always
have an offering to bring to the Lord. Oh my. And oh, listen,
let me tell you this then. We need, back over in our text,
we need a trespass offering. We need, we really need a trespass
offering. The scripture said in Isaiah
53, 6, it said, we all like sheep have gone astray. going astray. The Lord laid on him the iniquitous
fault. But now I want you to see the
sins that mentioned to show you that we need a trespass offering. Go back up here in verse 1 of
chapter 5, Leviticus chapter 5. We need a trespass offering. Look at the sin mentioned. If
a soul sin and hear the voice of swearing and is a witness,
whether he has seen it or known of it, If he do not utter it,
then he shall bear his iniquity. That's the sin of silence. The sin of silence. Peter was
guilty of the sin of silence. And oh my, the sin of silence. When we ought to speak, we don't
through fear of man or some other reason that we don't. We have
this opportunity to say something and we don't. So we have to,
that sin of silence, we need a trespass offering for it. Oh
my. And then the sin of defilement,
look in verse two and three. For if a man touch, or if a soul
touch any unclean thing, whether it be a carcass of an unclean
beast, or a carcass of an unclean cattle, the carcass of an unclean
creeping thing, and if he be hidden from him, he shall also
be unclean and guilty. Or if he touch the uncleanness
of man, whatsoever uncleanness it be, that man shall be defiled
withal, and he shall be hid from him when he knoweth of it, then
shall he be guilty. That is the sin of defilement."
Oh my! You folks that have to go out
in the world and work, I really feel for you. You've got to go
out and deal with the world, deal with people, and I'm sure
that you come in here sometimes feeling so unclean out to deal
with so much things in the world, but all of us, all of us get
defiled by unclean things. We don't know what's unclean
and what is clean, but I know this much, God said, if a simple
touch of an unclean thing, and we have unclean associations,
unclean people, unclean places we go. Oh, my. So we have to have a trespass
offering. And in this trespass offering, let me tell you something.
We have all of these things. First of all, in the trespass
offering, we have substitution, substitution. In every instance,
the offering was for the offerer. Every instance when they brought
an offering, it was for the offerer, the person who brought it. He
died for our sins. Oh, Christ was offered for our
sins. Sweet smell and savor unto God.
And then there's restoration. In this trespass, we have a substitute. We have a lamb or we have turtle
doves or we have flour. We have something to put in our
place. And then look over here in Leviticus 6, 4 and 5. In this trespass, however, we
have restoration. Restoration. Then it shall be, because he
hath sinned and is guilty, that he shall restore that which he
took violently away, or that which he hath deceitfully gotten,
or that which was delivered him to keep, or the loss which he
found, or that he, all that about which he hath sworn falsely,
he shall restore it in the principle, and add the fifth part that more
to, and give unto him to whom it appertaineth in the day of
his trespass offering. Oh my, everything has to be restored. You take something that's not
right and wouldn't take, you gotta give it back and then add
something to it. Well, guess who restored us? He said, I restored that which
I took not away. Oh my Lord, Jesus offered Himself,
He restored our relationship with God, restored our souls. Let me show you in Psalm 51,
look at Psalm 51. Psalm 51, look what he said over
here, oh my, restoration, oh my. Pay the uttermost for you come
into your judge, you pay the uttermost farthing, lest he hail
you to the judge. But look what David's talking
about being restored. He said here in verse eight of
Psalm 51, make me to hear joy and gladness, Listen to this,
that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice. Oh God, you've
made me feel like my bones have been broken. Hide thy face from
my sins. Blot out all mine iniquities.
Not only do that, Lord, but create in me a clean heart. Give me
a clean heart. Oh God, renew a right spirit
within me. Cast me not away, Lord. Don't
cast me away from your presence. Take not your Holy Spirit from
me. Now listen to this. Restore, restore unto me the
joy of thy salvation. Uphold me with thy free spirit. Then will I teach transgressors
thy way and sinners shall be converted unto thee. Restore,
restore. Oh my. Mmm, and then there's
compensation got an offering in this trespassing offering
we have substitution restoration and compensation Look what he
says back over here in chapter 5 in verse 16. I And he shall make amends for
the harm that he hath done in the holy thing, and shall add
the fifth part thereto, and give it unto the priest. And the priest
shall make an atonement for him with the realm of the trespass
offering, and it shall be forgiven him." Make amends. I've talked to several people
over the years that when God first started dealing with them,
they went back, you know, that's what you do in the 12-step program.
If you was an alcoholic or something, you know, you got, one of the
first things you do, you got to go back and make amends. Well,
folks go back and make amends. I remember things that I'd done
when I was a young man. And he said, Boy, I felt so guilty
about it. Go back and say, I'm sorry. I'm
sorry I did that. Sorry I said that. Sorry I acted
that way. But he says go back and make amends. And that's what,
thank God that our Lord Jesus Christ made amends for us. And not only that, but he added
a whole bunch more to it. He made amends for us, oh my! This offering was the type of
the Lord Jesus Christ. He pays the debt, the full compensating
of God for losses we sustained through the ruin of Adam where
sin abounded. Grace, grace did much more abound. And oh my, let me show you a
promise and I'll be done. Look down in verse 10 of chapter
5. and he shall offer the second
for a burnt offering according to the manner, and the priest
shall make an atonement for him for the sin which he hath sinned,
and it shall be forgiven him." You know, his tooth-double promise
here. First of all, the priest shall
make an atonement for him, and this work is done outside the
center. Christ made an atonement for
us outside ourselves. And the SECOND THING is, IT SHALL
BE FORGIVEN HIM. We've got a PRIEST that TAKES
THE OFFERING, and IT SHALL BE FORGIVEN HIM. And like I told
you, I went through here FOUR DIFFERENT TIMES. It said, IT
SHALL BE FORGIVEN HIM. And oh my, I want to show you
one thing in closing, and then I'm done. Look over in Acts chapter
13. Acts chapter 13. I'm done. God's Word is just I wish I could deal with it much
better than I do. But Christ is our atonement.
Christ Himself is our atonement, and He offered Himself without
spot to God. But look what He said here in
Acts 13.38, Be it known unto you therefore,
men and brethren, that through this man, through the Lord Jesus
Christ, is priest unto you the forgiveness of sins. And by him, by him, all that
believe are justified from all things from which you could not
be justified by the law of Moses. All things, all things. Oh, thank God we got an offering.
Got an offering for every need we have. Amen. Our Father, oh, bless your holy
name. Thank you for allowing us again
another privilege to meet here with the children of God, to
be numbered with the living, to be identified with the redeemed
of the Lord. And Lord, we are the redeemed
of the Lord and we say so. And Lord, we do. We confess so
many times before you, not before one another, but before you,
we confess. With you, we have to deal with
not one another, but with you. And so, Lord, we're so thankful
that you provided ever offering, ever sin offering, ever peace
offering, ever trespass offering, ever burn offering. every meal
offering, Lord, everything that we need provided for us in our
blessed Savior, our Lord Jesus Christ. And oh, God, thank you. Oh, Lord, thank you that we can
come to you. Oh, Lord, know that we're accepted
in the beloved. Oh, we're accepted in the beloved.
We're made righteous and we're forgiven of all our sin, all
of them. And thank you, Lord, for being
our great high priest, sittin' even now at the right hand of
God. Thank you for takin' up our case, takin' up our cause
when no one else can and no one else will. Oh, Lord, we bless
you and praise you. For Christ's holy name, we bless
you and praise you. Amen, amen. I'm gonna find this
one real quick. Sing a verse of it. I'll get
it if I can find it. 288. We're saying one verse, maybe
two verses of 288. Wonderful piece. Let's stand
together. Did I say 288? Far away in the depths of my
spirit tonight rose a melody sweeter than song. In celestial-like streams it
unceasingly falls, O'er my soul like an infinite calm. Peace, peace, wonderful peace
Coming down from the Father above over my spirit forever I pray
in fathomless billows of death what a treasure I have in this
wonderful peace Buried deep in the heart of my soul So secure that no power can mine
it away While the years of eternity roll Peace, peace, wonderful
peace ? Coming down, coming down ? From
the Father above ? Sing, O my spirit ? Forever I pray ? In
heaven above Sing verse four. We'll sing verse four for the
last one. and me thanks when I rise to
that city of peace where the author of peace I shall see ? Stain of the song which the ransomed
will sing ? ? And that heavenly kingdom shall be ? Peace, peace,
oh, such wonderful peace. Coming down, coming down. ? Sweep over my spirit forever
I pray ? In fathomless billows of love See a wish tonight, God
willing.
