Good morning. Let's all stand
together. We'll sing hymn number 497. 497. When I can read my
title clear to mention I'll bid farewell to every fear
and wipe my weeping eyes and wipe my weeping eyes and wipe
my weeping I'll bid farewell to every fear
and wipe my weeping eyes. Should earth against my soul
engage in fiery darts be hurled, then I can And face a frowning world And
face a frowning world And face a frowning world ? While at Satan's raging face
a frowning world ? ? Let cares like a wild deluge come and storms
of sorrow flow ? safely reach my home, my God,
my heaven, my all. My God, my heaven, my all. and my home. May I but safely reach my home,
I've got my head There shall I bathe my weary
soul in seas of heavenly rest, And not a wave of trouble roll
up across my peaceful breast. Across my peaceful rest, Across
my peaceful rest. Be seated. We'll sing hymn number 186. 186 The Church's one foundation is
Jesus Christ, our Lord. She is His new creation by water
and the Word. From heaven he came and sought
her, to be his holy bride. With his own blood he bought
her, and for her life he died. Elect from every nation, Headquarter
of the earth, Bearer of salvation, ? One Lord, one faith, one earth
? One holy name she blesses ? Partakes one holy food ? And to one hope
she presses ? With every grace endued Toil and tribulation and tumult
of her war She waits the consummation of peace forevermore Till with
the vision glorious ? Her longing eyes are blessed ? ? And to great
church victorious ? ? Shall be the church at rest ? ? Yet she
honors that union ? ? With God the three in one ? Mystic, sweet communion with
those whose rest is gone. O happy ones and holy, Lord give
us grace that we Look with me in Matthew chapter
21. Matthew chapter 21. I'm not going
to preach from here, but it's going to be my subject. Matthew 21. Read the first nine verses. And when
they drew nigh unto Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage under
the Mount of Olives, then sent Jesus to disciples. saying unto
them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway
ye shall find an ass tied, and cope with her. Loose them, and
bring them unto me. And if any man say aught unto
you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them, and straightway
he will send them. All this was done, that it might
be fulfilled, which was spoken by the prophet, saying, Tell
ye the daughter of Zion, Behold, thy king cometh unto thee, meek,
and set it upon an ass, and a coat, the fold of an ass. And the disciples
went, and did as Jesus commanded them, and brought the ass in
the coat, and put on them their clothes, and they set him thereon.
And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way, Others
cut down branches from the trees and strawed them in the way.
And the multitudes that went before and that followed cry,
saying, Hosanna, the son of David. Blessed is he that cometh in
the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. Our blessed Lord. The one, just and holy, true
God. A just God and a savior. And Lord, you told us to look
unto you. And Lord, in our hearts we do. By our faith we do. In our souls we do. In our minds we do. We look unto you. There's not
another God that's living One that does for us what only He
can do. And Lord, we bless you that what
you did for us, you did through your blessed Son, the Lord Jesus
Christ, our Savior. Oh, what a Savior. What a Savior. Man of sorrows, acquainted with
grief, come and took our place, bore our sin there in His own
body on that tree. Oh, Lord, bless you. Thank you. And Father, we gather here to
worship. We gather here to hear the gospel, gather here to call
on your name and look to you and hopefully by your grace,
exalt and honor you, bring glory to your holy name, to your blessed
person. And Lord, we pray for those that
are here. that you'd cause the gospel to run well, that it would
find a lodging, that the seed would be sown. For if you sow
the seed, if you, by the Holy Spirit, sow the seed, then it'll
bring forth fruit to your glory. So Lord, use the word to sow
seed today, to bring forth life. And I, Lord Jesus, we pray for
those among us who are sick, weak, and frail, We pray for
Fran, we pray for Rick and Helen. And if there's anyone I forgot,
Lord, forgive me. But meet the needs of this congregation
today. Save you people in this place.
Be with my dear preacher brethren as they stand to preach and labor
in the gospel. We thank you and bless you in
Christ our Lord's name. Amen. M number 127. 127. Man of sorrows, what a name For
the Son of God who came Ruined sinners to reclaim, hallelujah
What a Savior! Bearing shame and scoffing rude,
In my place condemned He stood, Sealed my pardon, ? With his
blood, hallelujah ? What a Savior ? Guilty, vile, and helpless
wee ? Sparkless Lamb of God was he ? Full atonement can it be
Hallelujah, what a Savior! Lifted up was He to die, It is
finished was his cry, Now in heaven exalted high. Hallelujah, what a Savior! When He comes, our glorious King,
All His ransomed home to bring, Then anew this song we'll sing,
Hallelujah! What a Savior! We'll all stand together as we
sing the hymn of the day in the bulletin. Remember, Lord, the blood and
sweat Of him who more than paid my debt Remember Christ upon
the tree And now be merciful to me. Remember how that Jesus bled
In this poor guilty sinner's stead He bore your wrath and
cursed for me in his own body on the tree. A perfect righteousness, And by His blood my pardon bought,
So that His righteousness might be By grace imputed now to me. I plead the merits of the blood
of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. The sinner's substitute is he. ? A mighty substitute for me
? Be seated. And when I surveyed the wonder's
cross, on which the Prince of Glory died, poor contempt on
all my pride. All right, now I want you to
look with me in the book of Zechariah. Now I'll tell you how to get
there. Malachi is the last book in the Old Testament. And Zechariah
is right before the book of Malachi. So you go to Malachi and then
Zechariah. Two books back. Zechariah chapter
9. Zechariah chapter 9. One verse
of scripture, Zechariah 9, 9. Rejoice greatly, O daughter of
Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, thy King cometh unto
thee. He is just and having salvation, lowly and rodic upon an ass,
and upon a colt, the foal of an ass. Now, we just read this
story and how our Lord Jesus Christ fulfilled it. And it says
there in the beginning, Rejoice greatly! Rejoice greatly! What would cause you to rejoice? What would cause you to rejoice?
Well, this year God said, Rejoice greatly! He told us to do it. Rejoice greatly! Now, not just
anybody to rejoice, He said, daughter of Zion. That means
children of the church. Zion is where the church dwells.
That's where it's called. And then he says, shout, O daughter
of Jerusalem. And oh my, why? Because the King's coming. The King's coming. Oh, rejoice
because the King's coming. The King's coming. Oh, the presence
of the King, the Lord Jesus Christ. And He says, the King, listen
to this, He cometh unto thee. Not just to everybody. You know, if you're one of thee,
He's coming to you. He says, Rejoice greatly, thy
King cometh unto thee. I'm a T-H-E-E. I'm one of them. Well, I'm a thee. And a king
cometh unto thee. And you know, here's another
place that God told us to rejoice. He says, now say unto Zion, thy
God reigneth. Now those two things right there
get your attention. Thy king cometh unto thee. And
say unto Zion, thy God reigneth. And now who can reign but a king?
And thy king cometh unto thee. And whatever He may be to others,
He is our King. Now there are people that say
and preach that He is going to be a coming King. But I am telling
you what, the Beloved, He was born King of the Jews. He was
David's son. He was a King from eternity. You know, Revelation said He
is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. He is the King over
every other King. He is the Lord over every other
Lord. And I tell you, we rejoice because He s coming unto thee.
And look what it says, And he is just and lowly, and having
salvation. And when He comes, when He comes,
He brings deliverance. He brings salvation, coming,
having salvation. He brings salvation with Him.
When He comes into this world, He brought salvation with Him.
Thou shalt call his name Jesus, for he shall save his people
from their sins. He's gonna come to bring grace.
He's full of grace and he's full of truth. He's come to bring
glory and we'll be with him in eternal and in glory. And he
comes as a king to give us his love and manifest his love, to
manifest his power, to manifest what a king can only do for a
subject. And He comes not only to bring
His love, but to seek our love, to cause us to love Him the same
way. And then when He comes, the King
comes unto thee to partake of our nature. He comes to partake
of our nature. and the reason He partook of
our nature, He became a man, and the reason He did that, that
we might partake of His nature, His holy nature, His righteous
nature, and partake of what He did and all He is. And He is
a King, let me tell you this, He's a King by His right, by
right He's a King. They said, O thou Son of David,
God told David, he said, I'm gonna raise up a king that's
gonna sit on your throne forever and ever and ever. There'll be
no end to his kingdom. And this says, then the wise
men come, and you know, when they've come and found the Lord
Jesus Christ, the first thing they asked when they got in town
said, where is he that is born king of the Jews? Born king. And I'll tell you what, and I'll
tell you, and he's our king. He is our King by choosing us. That's why He said, unto the
daughter of Zion. He's not just talking to anybody.
And then we rejoice greatly. Look what it says. We rejoice
greatly, not only because He is coming unto us, but it also
says He is just. He is just in having salvation. You know, God mentions men of
being just. but they're only made just by
His being just. We're only just because He justified
us, but He Himself is just, perfectly just, and He brings salvation. You see, His righteousness, and
yet He is righteousness, and yet He shows mercy. I want you
to look with me in Psalm 85. Look over here in Psalm 85. He
is righteous, He said, He brings salvation. In Psalm 85, He is righteous
and yet He shows mercy. He is the One who causes mercy
and truth to meet together. Look what He said in verse 9
here now. Surely His salvation is nigh
them that fear Him, that glory may dwell in our land. Mercy
and truth are met together, where they meet together, in the Lord
Jesus Christ. God s mercy, God is truth, absolute
truth, and the truth is that this is the thing, that our Lord
Jesus Christ shows a way that God can be just, God can be righteous,
and yet save sinners like us. That's the greatest subject that
anybody can deal with in this life right here, is how can God
be just? How can Christ be righteous?
How can God be holy and take unholy, unrighteous, God-rejecting,
sinful, corrupt sinners and make them just and righteous? You
know how he done it? Mercy and truth met one another. Where'd they meet? On the cross
of our Lord Jesus Christ. Grace and truth. He is truth. And mercy and truth met together
in that one person. God said, I can be true and yet
I can show mercy. How can I show mercy in spite
of my truth? He can't. They both got to go
together. And they both go together and
meet together in the blessed Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Now look what else it says. Righteousness and peace, they
kissed each other. God said, I'm gonna, He's gonna
be our peace. He's gonna bring peace. Well,
how's He gonna do it? Righteousness. Said, oh, God
said, I will show peace to my people. I want peace between
me and my people. And He said, what I'll do? Righteousness. Said, I'm gonna kiss peace. And
I tell you, He done that at the cross. And I tell you, and then
it says, truth shall spring up out of the earth. Where does
that, Mr. Pink said this, that truth represents
the cross springing up out of the earth. And righteousness
looks down from heaven and says, I'm satisfied, I'm satisfied. And oh my. That's the greatest
problem known to a sinner. And I'll tell you something,
I've never got over this. I've never got over it. How that
God can be just. A just God. A just God. A righteous God. And yet, save
me, a sinner. Born a sinner, lives a sinner. and have sin that God don't even
know I've committed yet. But because of Him, because of
Him, God can be just and justify me through what His Son did on
that blessed cross. And I tell you what, it says
He's just. He's just in His own personal character. Now, we're
not just in our personal character. We're just because Christ made
us just. We're just because Christ justified
us. But here he is just his own self. He is just in his own personal
character. He was just as the one who bore
the penalty of sin. He says, you know, he himself,
he bore our sins in his own body, the just for the unjust, the
innocent for the guilty, that he might bring us to God. And
it also says He's just as He cleaned us from our, cleared
us from our sin, and He voluntarily, voluntarily took upon Himself
all of our sin and endured, endured the terrible wrath and justice
of God. And I tell you what, in God's
sake, God looked down from heaven and said, I'm satisfied with
Him. I'm gonna bring him again from the dead because I'm satisfied
with him and because God saved him from the grave. Saved him when he put our sins on him,
saved him from them. When he saved him and brought
him in from the dead, he saved us in him and because of him. And no wonder, no wonder we say
rejoice. He says rejoice greatly. And
here's the thing I really want to deal with today, if I can,
by God's grace. It says here, Thy king cometh
unto thee, just in having salvation, and he's lowly. He's lowly. Now, he's a king, and it says
he is lowly. There's not another king, past
or present, that that can be said about, that is lowly. that he is lowly, not another
person, not another king, not another king that's ever been
born, that's ever lived, ever died, or has ever has been. Nebuchadnezzar,
he walked around Jerusalem and he said, oh, look at this great
Babylon that I've made, that I've created, that I've raised
up. I'm responsible for its glory. I'm responsible for its power.
Look at this great Babylon. Oh, and here's a king. You know what God did to him?
He put him out to eat grass, and he stood out there until
his hair got so long, his way down his back, and he was out
there so long that his fingernails got so long they looked like
claws. God said, you know what he learned this? He said, all
the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing. God regards
me as nothing. and he doth according his will
in the armies of the heaven and among the inhabitants of the
earth, and there ain't nobody can say unto him, what are you
doing? Said he's all lowly. Now our
Lord Jesus Christ's not that way. He created the world by
his word. He upholds it by his power. And
yet he said here is lowly, he is lowly. And I'll tell you,
here he is, his outward state, shows his humility, his gentleness,
and he appears to be what he really is, and this is the position,
lowly, this is the position he chose for himself in this world. No king ever chooses a lowly
place, but this king that cometh unto us, this king that's just
and brings salvation, he come into this world, And this is
the position He chose for Himself, to be lowly, to be the lowest,
to be the lowest. In the height of His grandeur,
He is not like the other kings of the earth. No wonder they said, Hosanna,
Hosanna, praise be unto the King. And our Lord Jesus Christ, instead
of a great big fine house, or a chariot to ride into Jerusalem
on. He rides into Jerusalem on a
donkey, not a big white horse. Robert E. Lee, everybody knows
about him. He had a big white horse he rode
on. His name was Charger. Everybody could recognize who
Robert E. Lee was because of his horse in the battle. But
our Lord Jesus Christ came into Jerusalem riding on a donkey. And a colt was following along.
He's more at home with the common people than with the great. He rides into Jerusalem. Now
he's riding into Jerusalem as a king. He's riding into Jerusalem
in state. In state. But he is marked with
his lowliness. Instead of being surrounded by
dignitaries, he's surrounded by peasants, poor people, common
people, fishermen, and the children of Jerusalem. He rose through Jerusalem on
an ass and occult the foal of an ass. There's never been no
false messiah has ever imitated his lowliness, His lowliness. And that's what I want to look
at today, if I can. Let's look at His lowliness. What His lowliness means, that
means going about as far down as you can possibly go. Far down as you can possibly
go. You see His lowliness in undertaking
the salvation of guilty, guilty man. Before the fall, before
the fall, man was created in God's image. He was noble. He stood upright. He walked with
God and talked with God daily. But after the fall, after the
fall, after he listened to the voice of Satan and partook of
that awful fruit after the fall, what an awful, awful, awful creature
he became. Old George Whitefield, he said,
man's half devil and half beast if God don't do something for
him. And there's no doubt about that. If God's ever done something
for you, you'll recognize that statement. I'm half devil and
half beast until God does something for me. Oh, what an awful, no
wonder David said when he looked at the stars, what's man? What
in the world is man? What is he? That you'd even, oh God, consider
him. Look at his direction. And then,
oh God, what is man that you might even come and visit him?
Why would you come and do anything for us? not worthy even to be regarded
by God. And if a person feels like that
they need to be regarded by God, they don t know God. If God even looks in our direction,
what a blessing it is! If God even considers us for
a moment, what a blessing it is! What is man? I know he thinks
he's something. But oh, he showed his lowliness
in assuming our nature. He could have come, Gabriel came
with an announcement. Michael the archangel. But our Lord Jesus Christ did
not assume The nature of angels. But you know what he assumed? He assumed the seed of Abraham.
Well, who in the world is Abraham? He's an idolater. Way over in
the area of the Chaldees. Over where Iraq is right now. Where there where the Tigris
River is. That's where he was from. That's
where he lived. And he had idols in his house.
And he worshiped idols in his house. And that's when God said,
listen, Abraham, come out from where you're at and you come
to a land that I show you. That's who he partook the seed
of. I'm gonna be identified with
Abraham. I'm gonna be identified with
Jacob, that deceiver. I'm gonna be identified with
the lowest of low. He said, you know those men that
brag about themselves and feel good about themselves and got
wisdom of their own and got might of their own. He said, you know
who I'm going to look for? I'm going to look for the lowest,
the sorriest, miserablest, low-down bunch of people that there are
on the face of the earth, and I'm going to visit them. Oh my. And the Word was made
flesh. We wonder, we wonder how this
man could be God. How could this man be God? But the angels wonder how in
the world this God could become a man. They stand back, and that's what
I think one of the greatest wonders in heaven right now, is how in
the world God, whom we worship, God who created us, And he cast
down a third of the angels, put Satan down, because they even
thought in their hearts that they'd get above God. And God
brought them down. But they stand and wonder, how
in the world could this one whom we worshiped, this one who made
the world, how could he go down there and identify with that
bunch of people? How could he do it? How could
he do it? And he was daily the delight
of his father. He was the joy and light of heaven. Oh my. Not only a man but a servant. Look with me in Philippians 2.
Let's look together in Philippians 2. These things bring me to, oh
my, they just, Devastate my heart. Devastate me to think of a position
our Lord took. He became lowly. He came lowly.
Tell me somebody else that ever come into this world lowly. And oh my, it said here in verse
six, Who being in the form of God,
He was God. He was God. Thought it not robbery
to be equal to God. I'm not taking a thing in the
world from God claiming to be who I am. And listen to this. And being found in, but made
himself of no reputation. Oh my. made himself of no reputation. We labor, we labor hard to make
a reputation for ourselves. We work at making a reputation
for ourselves. We want folks to think well of
us, to speak well of us. Boy, he's a fine fella, he's
a fine man, he's a fine woman. We labor hard to have a reputation. But our Lord Jesus Christ made
himself of no reputation. He didn't care if anybody looked
at Him and thought He was... In fact, they looked at Him and
said, He has a devil. Uh-huh. And then look what He goes on
to say. Made Himself no reputation, took upon Him the form of a servant.
And listen to this. And became obedient unto death,
even the death of the cross. He became obedient. There are
vessels of honor, and there's vessels of dishonor. He chose, our Lord did chose,
to be used dishonorably. To be used dishonorably. Made
Himself of no reputation. We despised Him. We esteemed
Him not. hated him without a cause, made
himself nothing, nothing. But as we labor for a good reputation,
he made himself of no reputation. And oh my, he come down so low
that he communed with a fallen woman at the well. He redeemed a thief identified
with a thief on a cross and saved him. He was so lowly that they
said, he has a devil. He bore it as a servant, lowly. He even came so low that he got
down and worshipped a bunch of sinful, sorry disciples' feet. That's lowly. And we see His
lowliness in His life-long poverty. He was poor from the day He was
born until the day He died. Never had anything. Paul said
in 2 Corinthians 8 and 9, Though He was rich, Yet for our sakes he became poor,
that through HIS POVERTY, HIS POVERTY, we might be made rich. Oh, my! You know, when he was
born, they had to borrow a cradle for him to live in, to lay in. He didn t even have a place to
lay. They had to find a place to lay
him down. And our babies are born. We know that they're going
to be born. We buy everything under the sun we can for them.
We buy baby beds, clothes, everything. But our Lord Jesus Christ, when
He was born, He took a bunch of old clothes that you swaddle
something in. You know, you wipe them off with
and then wrap them up in. And they laid Him where the cows
eat. Oh my! He lived in other houses. He never had a house of his own.
When he rested, he was always on a borrowed bed. Sometimes
he didn't even have a house to go. John 7.58 said, Every man
went unto his own house, and they left the Lord with no place
to go. A fella told him one day, he said, Lord, I'm gonna follow
you wherever you go. And our Lord Jesus Christ said,
foxes over yonder have holes. The birds of the air, they have
nests. But I don't have a place to lay my head down. I don't
have a place to lay my head. Oh my. And let me tell you something,
we hate charity. Oh, don't give me no charity.
Our Lord lived on the charity of others. He lived on the charity
of His followers. Women ministered unto Him. They fed Him. Took care of Him. Followed Him around. Made sure
He was alright. And when He preached, He preached
from a borrowed boat. And when He died, He was put
in a borrowed tomb. He had no tomb of His own. He
could have had anything in this universe that He wanted if He
just willed it to be so. But for our sakes, He became
poor. And we can see our Savior's lowliness
with the people He associated Himself with. When his disciples
came and he was talking with that woman at the well, that
fallen woman, had five husbands and was living with a man at
that time. And they just was astonished that his disciples
came and they marveled, the scripture says, that he was talking with
that woman. Marvel that. I marvel that he'll
even speak to me. In every way superior to us,
every way superior to us, but not once, not once in his life
did he ever, ever act superior. Oh my, our politicians, they
crawl all over one another's back to see which one's the biggest
and which one's the greatest, which one's the wealthiest, which
one's the most When they go somewhere, they
got to go in a great big caravan. Police in front of them, police
in back of them in a big caravan, watching over them, letting everybody
know there's so-and-so's coming. But our Lord Jesus Christ. People
go to places and they pay $10,000, $30,000, $50,000 to be able to
sit with the rich and powerful. But our Lord Jesus Christ. sit and talk with a fallen, fallen
woman. He never did play the superior.
And oh, one of the things that they said, this man receives
sinners. This man eats with sinners. Publicans and sinners gathered
around him. This man receives sinners. Little
children just love to be in His presence. And they all got to
bragging about which one's going to be the greatest among them.
That's what human nature thinks. That's what His own disciples
said. They argued among themselves, who's going to be the greatest?
John's mother, John and James' mother, came to Him and said,
Lord, when You come into Your kingdom, I want John to sit on
one side and James to sit on the other. They wanted to be
somebody. You know what our Lord told them?
He said, it's not mine to give. It's not mine to give. This man's going to be guest
with a sinner. With a sinner. Oh my. Look how people kind of
people he associates with. If He didn't associate with sinners,
there'd be no hope for us, wouldn't there? And oh, He shows us how lowly
He is because He patiently, patiently bore accusations against Himself,
reveals His lowliness. They said, This man is a drunk
and a wine-dipper. They said, he has a devil. And when they put him on trial, in the palace, and the high priest,
and the Sanhedrin was all gathered around. They put on him his mock
trial, and put on his robe, and put on the crown of thorns, and
slapped him, and spit in his face, and said, tell us who smote
you. And they done all these things
to him. Put a reed in his hand and said, Hail King of the Jews! He never opened his mouth. Never
opened his mouth. One time, They picked up stones
to stone him. Why would they want to stone
a man that never done anything to hurt him? Why would they want
to stone a man that never mistreated anybody in his life, but gathered the low and the
sorry and the sinners around himself? Oh my. And you know what He said in
the very end, showing how lowly He is when He was nailed to that
cross? He said, Father, forgive them. Forgive them. They didn't know what they was
doing. They didn't know who they was killing. And in His death, and in His
death, you know where they took Him? took him outside Jerusalem
to a place called the place of a skull. And they nailed him to a tree,
and he never said a word. He never cried out in agony,
never cried out in pain, never shed a tear. He drove those nails into his
hands, drove those nails into his feet, and this is the way
I think he was crucified. That's the way I believe it was
done. I think they placed His feet on top of one another and
His hands on top of one another and nailed them together. I don't
believe He is like that. I believe He is like that. That
would make it more painful, more agonizing, stretch His body
out more. And then not only that, But they
said, we're going to show this man just how sorry a man he is
and what we think about him. We're going to put a thief over
here, and we're going to put a thief over there. We're going to let everybody
know this man's just nothing but a common criminal. Common
criminal. Men mocked him. Men railed on
him. And he was lowly. And he bore
it all. Well, what was the cause? What
was the cause of him, of his loneliness? What was the cause
of it? Huh? Cause he was actually that way. He was actually lowly at heart. He never had to work at it. You
and I have to work at it. He didn't have to work at it.
He was actually, actually lowly at heart. It was natural to him
to be lowly in heart. It was natural. You know, He
was so lowly because He was so great. He told His disciples,
if you want to be great, then you be the servant. You take
the lowest place. You take the lowest place. But
He was so lowly because He is so great. A little man got to
feel the need to exalt himself, make himself look good. But our
Lord, knew how to descend. He knew the way of self-denial.
He was humility personified. And you know why? Because he
was so great, he could do it. He was so lowly, because he was
so loving, that he'd take the lowest place. So loving. You know, mothers and fathers,
grandmas and grandpas, They'll have a baby, have a little kid,
and they don't think it's nothing to get down at their level and
talk baby talk to them. Hug them, get down on their level,
get down on their hands and knees. Play games with them, go down
to where they are. Oh, how great, how great is His
love to come down to us and to those He loved. He said,
having loved His own, He loved them to the end. He was lowly
in heart because His heart is made of love. You see, love's
a great leveler. And then let me tell you this,
and I'll wind it up. We see his loneliness by the
work, he said, he's hard to do. He come into this world to do
a work. He said, my father gave me a work to do, and I must work
while it's yet day. He had no time for vainglory.
He had no time for self-praise. He had no time to think how he
appeared to others. His work was the utmost thing
in his heart. He cared not for the esteem of
men and the praise of men. Zeal ate him up. He said he was
straightened. That mean he was put in such
a narrow place till his work was accomplished. And let me
show you this back over in Philippians, and I'll quit. It says, Thy King cometh unto
thee, just and lowly, bringing salvation. Look in Philippians 2 and verse
3. Let nothing, absolutely nothing
be done through strife or vainglory, You know why men strive? One
wants to have more glory than the other. And that's what he's
saying. Let nothing be done through strife
or vain glory. And anything that you do to bring
something to yourself is bringing glory to yourself. But listen
to this, but in lowliness of mind, let us each esteem other
better than themselves. Look at everybody around you
and say, boy, they're better than I am. They're better than
I am. Look, not every man on his own
things, but every man on the things of the others. God help
us, not only to act lowly, but actually
be lowly. Our blessed Lord, our great and
blessed God, Lord, I thank you for this. Our Lord Jesus Christ
took the lowest place. Lord, teach us to take the lowest
place. Teach us to not make ourself
of any reputation, not to seek the praise and glory
and honor of any man, but to seek your glory and your honor. God bless this message, we ask
in Christ's name, amen. ? Turn your eyes upon Jesus ?
? Look full in his wonderful face ? See you tonight, six o'clock,
God willing.
