Short Gospel Messages

The sermon "Call His Name Jesus" by Wayne Boyd focuses on the incarnation and redemptive purpose of Jesus Christ as outlined in Matthew 1:21. Boyd emphasizes that Jesus' mission is to save His people from their sins, asserting that salvation is entirely the work of Christ rather than human effort. He refers to Scripture, notably linking the verse to key doctrines such as total depravity and unconditional election, explaining that humanity's inherent sinfulness necessitates divine intervention. Boyd further expounds on the significance of Christ's unique identity as God incarnate, underscoring that no other means of salvation exists outside of Jesus, making faith in Him essential for acceptance before God. This brings practical implications for believers, who are called to trust solely in Christ for their salvation and recognize His sovereignty in the redemption process.

Turn in your Bibles, if you would,
to the book of Matthew, chapter 1. We'll look at verse 21, one
verse that we've looked at quite a bit in our studies through
the years, and it's just a wonderful verse, and I hope it never becomes
commonplace to any of us because it's so wonderful. It's so wonderful. Matthew 1, verse 21. This verse
declares And she shall bring forth a son,
not speaking of Mary, and that son we know is the Lord Jesus
Christ. And she shall bring forth a son,
and thou shalt call his name Jesus. For he shall save his
people from their sins. What a wonderful, wonderful verse. Beloved, we're just a bunch of
sinners, and we need to be saved. And we see the words here before
us are the words of the angel of the Lord, Joseph, concerning
the incarnation, the birth and work of the Lord Jesus Christ.
God incarnated in the flesh. Look at this, and she shall bring
forth a son. This speaks of the birth of Christ.
And thou shall call his name Jesus. It means Jehovah is salvation. For he shall save his people
from their sins. This speaks of his great work
of redemption, doesn't it? Before he's even born, beloved,
remember, he's the lamb slain from before the foundation of
the world. And at the accepted time, he will come into this
world to save his people from their sins. Oh, my. Number one, why did the
Son of God come into this world? Well, we see in this portion
the answer to that question. Someone may ask, well, why was
God the Son sent by God the Father into this world? Again, we see
the answer in this verse to those two questions. The angel of the
Lord plainly tells us that God the Son came into this world
for a specific purpose. You see, we fell in Adam. When
Adam fell, all of humanity was plunged into sin. We come into
this world born dead in trespasses and sins. We need to be saved
from our sins and we can't save ourselves. So what did God do? He sent his son to save a people
chosen in Christ from before the foundation of the world.
And we see here they're called his people. And look at this,
he's on a mission, beloved. God the son is sent into this
world for a specific purpose, to do a specific thing, on a
specific mission. Thou shall call his name Jesus,
oh my, for he, look at this, shall. What? Who's doing it? Who's saving us? We can't save
ourselves. Why does man think, why do we
think we can save ourselves by doing something? We can't. This
verse brings forth, too, the fact that we can't save ourselves
because he shall save us. He shall save his people from
their sins. He's done. It's his work. Salvation's
the work of Christ. He don't need no help. He's already
finished it. People say, well, God wants to
save you, but he can't unless you let him. That's a lie from
the pit of hell. This verse tells us that Christ
came into this world to save his people, and it says he shall
save his people from their sins. He already did it. And because we're sons, Galatians
says, God sends the spirit of his Son into our hearts, whereby
we now cry, Abba, Father, Beloved. Oh, my. And remember his telling
us this. This is the angel of the Lord
speaking to Joseph. The Lord of glory, the Son of
God, assumed our nature, the Lord Jesus Christ. He came into
this world to save his people from their sins, to do the Father's
will. Listen to this. And this is the
Father's will, which has sent me, that of all which he has
given me, I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again
at the last day, John 6, 39. What a wonderful message. Oh
my, it's wonderful. Listen to this in John chapter
10, verse 14. You know, he came to fulfill
and to redeem his people. He came to fulfill the covenant
of grace. Listen to this. I am the good
shepherd, John 10, 14, and know my sheep, I know them, I know
them intimately, and am knowing of mine. As the Father knoweth
me, even so I know the Father, and I lay down my life for the
sheep. Oh, it's wonderful. And of the sheep I have, which
are not of this fold, that's us Gentiles who are saved. It's
wonderful. Them also I must bring, and they
shall hear my voice, and look at this, and there shall be one
fold and one shepherd, Jew and Gentile together. Therefore doth
my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take
it again. No man taketh it from me, but
I lay it down to myself. See, Christ's got all power,
beloved. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to
take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.
Isn't that wonderful? Oh, my. Another question someone
might ask is, who is this Jesus? Oh, my. Do you not wonder in
admiration? I do. I wonder in admiration
and wonder when I think of the fact that Christ coming into
this world that God the Son came into this world, it's absolutely
astonishing, beloved. Oh my, that God the Son would
become the Son of Man to save his people from their sins. It's
amazing. Great is the mystery of God's
mystery. God was manifest in the flesh. Oh. He who created all things
would become the woman's seed. That he who is the Lord of all
takes upon himself the form of a servant, to be despised and
rejected of man, to be man of souls, acquitted with grief,
to save me from my sins. And if you're a believer, to
save you from your sins. And his purpose in coming was
to save us from our sins. In the fullness of time, he was
born. In the fullness of time, he died.
All according to God's clock. He died a painful, shameful,
humiliating death on the cross in the room and place of guilty
sinners such as I. And again, we say with Paul,
great is the mystery of godliness. God was manifest in the flesh
to save me from my sins. Marvel again at our verse. Let's
look at it again Matthew 1 21 and she shall bring forth the
son and Thou shall call his name Jesus. I love those little words
shall and shall Jesus for he shall save his people from their
sins. Who is this Jesus? Who is the
Christ of the Bible? Well, we must know trust and
worship Christ if we would know God and If we are to be accepted by God,
we must have Christ revealed to us by the Holy Spirit of God.
We must be born again. Oh, my. The only way that God
can accept the sinner such as I and such as you is in Christ. Oh, my. And he who is God in
the flesh is the only Savior of sinners, and his name is the
Lord Jesus Christ. If you care for your soul, search
the scriptures. Ask God the Holy Spirit to show
you who this Jesus is, of whom it is written, he shall save
his people from their sins. This man, Jesus Christ of Nazareth,
is God the Son, the second person of the Trinity, the Holy Trinity. Salvation is in him alone, completely,
and only in him. Simeon, holding the baby Jesus
in his arms, proclaimed that Jesus Christ, our God, our Lord,
is God's salvation. He says this in Luke 20 verses
30, or Luke chapter 2, I mean, verses 30 to 32. For mine eyes have seen thy salvation. And he saw him. We by faith look
to him, don't we, by God-given faith, which thou hast prepared
before the face of all people, a light to lighten the Gentiles,
and the glory of thy people Israel. Oh, he's the king of kings. He's
my savior. He saved me from my sins. He
came to save me from my sins, and he did it 2,000 years ago.
Praise his mighty name. Oh, my. You cannot be saved without
Christ. You cannot be saved if you try
to mix your own works and feelings and emotions or experiences with
faith in Christ. No, no, no! Salvation's of the
Lord, period. And in and through him, the Lord
Jesus Christ is able to save you from the guilt of sin, from
the power of sin, and from all the consequences of sin. Oh,
praise his name. He alone is the all-sufficient
Savior. He's the only person who has
power in himself to forgive sin. He is exalted to give repentance
and remission of sins. When we are born again by the
Holy Spirit of God, when we are given faith to believe on the
Lord Jesus Christ, we're also given repentance before God,
aren't we? We own our sin. Say, Lord, I've only sinned against
thee. Oh, my. And by the sacrifice of himself,
the Lord Jesus Christ, according to the will of God, I'll put
away all the sins of all his people, of all the ages. and
he obtained eternal redemption for them, and established the
only grounds upon which God can both be just, a just God, and
the justifier of his people, of all who believe, and they
believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the only way we can be
just before God, and he's our justifier. Oh, it's amazing. Number three, Christ is the way.
There is absolutely no other possible way of salvation. None
at all. God's own beloved son would never
have to be crucified to redeem and save us if salvation could
be obtained in any other way. Indeed, the Apostle Paul reasons
that if we could have been saved in any other way, then Christ
is dead in vain. Galatians 2 21 infinite wisdom. Oh beloved mark this infinite
wisdom Infinite wisdom found a way to save us infinite grace
provided the great sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ infinite
love everlasting infinite love Bought the Son of God to this
earth to lay down his life for the sins of his people Oh my,
why? Because there's no other way
for us to be saved. There's no other way for us to
be saved, beloved. There's no other way for a sinner
to satisfy God's holy justice. And God's, we can't fulfill God's
law, we can't satisfy his justice, because we're a bunch of sinners.
But Christ the Holy One, Christ Jesus, the Lamb of God, was a
substitute of his people. He came to save us from our sins. And he did it at Calvary's Cross,
shedding his precious blood. And we tell all, right? Come unto Christ. He's the only
Savior of sinners. He's the only one. My, oh, my. Why do we say that? Because there's
no other way to be saved. There's no other way to be saved.
Christ alone must be our Savior. Neither is there salvation in
any other, for there's none other name under heaven given among
men whereby we must be saved. Acts chapter 4, verse 12. The
only way sinners like you and me can obtain God's salvation
is by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. There's nothing we can
do, nothing we can do to earn it, We will never merit it. It
only comes to us through Christ Jesus. It's a gift of God, not
of works, lest any man should boast. Oh, you may be confident
in your sins. If you're a believer, you may
be confident that all our sins are forgiven, all of them, by
the precious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. And you may be
confident as a believer, oh, that God has made you perfectly
righteous as a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. If you're
trusting in him and him alone, Oh, you can be confident that
God has made you perfectly righteous in Christ. And because God appointed
this way of salvation, He's promised to save all who trust in His
dear Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Neither is there salvation in
any other, for there is none other name under heaven given
among men whereby we must be saved. So indeed, if you now
trust the Son of God, it's because you're already born again of
God. My oh my, you already have everlasting life. Do you know
we could not and would not believe on the Lord Jesus Christ if we're
not born again. Isn't that amazing? If God doesn't
give us life, we'll never trust him. my oh my so marvel at this
wonderful text before us beloved of god we see the lord jesus
christ god in the flesh was sent by god the father to save his
people from their sins and we who are god's people sinners
saved by the grace of god we say amen and amen
