Open your Bibles, if you would,
to Revelation, Revelation chapter five. The name of this message
is Jesus Christ hath prevailed, or has prevailed. Beloved God,
the word of God, the second person of the Trinity, was sent by God
the Father from heaven to save his people from their sins. His name is the Lord Jesus Christ. And God the Father sent the Son
to save his chosen people who could not save themselves. We cannot save ourselves, beloved,
it's impossible. But that which is impossible
with man is possible with God, praise his mighty name. And I
proclaim the good news of salvation for sinners in and through the
Lord Jesus Christ. who totally fulfilled the law
of God in our room and place, and fully satisfied God's justice
in our room and place as our substitute. And he did it all
by himself. And all who trust in him alone,
plus nothing that we do, because there's nothing we can do to
save ourselves, and we do not add anything to the complete,
perfect, finished work of Christ. This is why Paul, by inspiration
of the Holy Spirit of God, wrote so firmly against it in the book
of Galatians. And in Acts chapter 15, there
was actually a council meeting over the fact that certain false
teachers were saying, you must be circumcised and follow the
law of Moses to be saved. You can put anything in place
of the word circumcision there. Anything you have to do is a
false gospel. It is no hope. for a sinner in
something we do. Our only hope is the fact that
the Lord Jesus Christ perfectly, perfectly, perfectly completed
the work of salvation in our room and place. Jesus Christ
hath prevailed, beloved. The Lamb of God hath prevailed. Oh my. And just as David prevailed
over Goliath, our Lord Jesus Christ had prevailed over the
great enemies of our souls. Right? The devil and all our
sins. Oh my. See, the law of God had
a rightful claim upon us, didn't it? We broke the law of God. It had a rightful claim upon
us. The justice of God must be satisfied. So Christ, the perfect
substitute, dies in the room and place of chosen sinners.
Now, I don't know who they are, and neither do you. So we preach
the gospel to all, right? Saying, come unto you all that
are weary and are heavy laden. And Christ says, here, give us
rest. Flee to him. He's the only hope for sinners.
The question is, are you a sinner? I know I am. But I'm a sinner
saved by grace. I'm still a sinner. To my shame,
but praise be to God, I'm a saved sinner. Oh, I thank God all the
time for his mercy and grace to this undeserving, hell-deserving
sinner. Oh, it's amazing. Oh, it's absolutely
amazing. So just as David prevailed over
Goliath, our Lord Jesus Christ has prevailed over the great
enemies of our souls. It's the Lord Jesus Christ who
saved His people from their sins and washed us clean in His precious
blood. And as we've seen many times
in Hebrews chapter 9, He obtained eternal redemption for us by
the shedding of His precious blood. Listen to the scripture
from 1 Samuel 17 50. It says, So David prevailed over
the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine
and slew him. But there was no sword in the
hand of David. And then in Revelation 5.5, the
scripture declares this. And one of the elders saith unto
me, weep not, behold, the lion of the tribe of Judah, the root
of David, hath prevailed to open the book and to loose the seven
seals thereof. I love that. Behold, the lion
of the tribe of Judah. You know who that is? That's
the Lord Jesus Christ. And it says this, the root of
David, hath prevailed. Oh, he's prevailed! He's prevailed,
beloved! Oh, isn't that wonderful? I can
say as a born-again blood-washed believer, he prevailed over my
sin, praise be to God. He paid for it all. Oh my. And all who put their trust in
him find out that 2,000 years ago he prevailed over our sins. He purchased our eternal souls.
Isn't that wonderful? Oh, it's wonderful. Listen to
this in 1 Samuel 17 verses 17 to 18. Do you know that David
was sent by the Father, by his Father? to go and see his brethren? Oh, isn't that amazing? Listen
to this. And Jesse said unto David his son, take now for thy
brethren an ephod of this parched corn, and these ten loaves, and
run to the camp to thy brother, and carry these ten cheese to
the captain of their thousand, and look how thy brethren fare,
and take their pledge. My, oh, my. So David went out
to meet him, When he went out to meet Goliath, he went out
as a representative man, beloved. He represented all of Israel
when he went out. When he went out there to face
Goliath, he represented all of Israel. Therefore, what David accomplished,
Israel accomplished. Isn't that amazing? Oh my. picture of the greater David
we have in the scriptures. In the New Testament, the Lord
Jesus Christ, you know, he came onto the battlefield of this
earth sent by the Father. Isn't that amazing? Listen to this, but when the
fullness of time was come, God sent forth his son, made of a
woman, made under the law, to redeem them that were under the
law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. Isn't that
wonderful? sent by the Father. The Lord Jesus Christ came as
our great high priest, beloved, to represent us unto God, to do for us that which we could
never do for ourselves. Listen to this, Hebrews chapter
four, verses 14 to 16. Seeing then that we have a great
high priest, that's the Lord Jesus Christ, that has passed
unto the heavens, he ascended back into heaven. Jesus, the
Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. And our profession
is Christ as the Savior, sinner. He's the one who saved my soul.
He saved the sinner. It's wonderful. For we have not
an high priest which cannot be touched with the feelings of
our infirmities. He was human, beloved. He was fully God and
yet fully man. But was at all points tempted
like we are, yet without sin. He's the perfect spotless Lamb
of God. He never sinned. and never had
a mind sin, a thought sin, never had a sin in deed, never had
a sin in affection. It's amazing. The perfect sinless
man. He's God in the flesh, beloved.
And as a representative of man, he was tempted like we are yet without
sin. Let us therefore come boldly
unto the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find
grace to help in time of need. Oh, isn't that wonderful? We
can come to the Lord Jesus Christ and His throne of grace anytime,
beloved. And we are told to come to obtain
mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Are you needy?
I'm a needy man. Are you needy? Oh, let us go
to Christ and Him alone. Oh my. And as our representative
man, as the God-man mediator, the Lord Jesus Christ, he prevailed. Do you know that? He's prevailed
over all our spiritual enemies. It's he who's won the battle
for us. Because he's won the complete
victory, every believer is therefore victorious in Christ, in him. Listen to this, 1 Corinthians
15, 57, but thanks be to God, which gives us the victory through
our Lord Jesus Christ. You know, people used to always
talk about, I need to get the victory. It's already been done.
I need a victory over my sin. It's already done. We just rest
in Christ and look to Christ. Sure, we struggle every day and
we fight sin every day, but look to the one who has prevailed
over all our sins. Oh, it's wonderful, isn't it?
And marvel, marvel that David completely defeated Goliath alone. How? By the power and might of
God. In the name of God, for the glory
of God. Listen to this. This is wonderful. In 1 Samuel 17 verses 47 to 50, And all this assembly shall know
that the Lord saveth not with the sword and spear, for the
battle is the Lord's. O Lord, help me, help me remember
that. The battle's the Lord's, beloved.
The battle's the Lord's. He said, for the battle is the
Lord's, and he will give you into our hands. And he was talking
to the Philistine army in Goliath. And it came to pass when the
Philistines arose and came and drew nearer to David, that David
hasted, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistines, so Goliath's
coming at him. And David put his hand in the
bag, and took thence a stone, and slung it, and smote the Philistine
in his fort. That rock was divinely powered
and taken right to the slay Goliath. Oh my. that the stone sunk deep
into his forehead, and he fell upon his face to the earth. So
David prevailed, and we know that's by the power of God, over
the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine
and slew him. But there was no sword in the
hand of David. Remember what he said, for the
battle is the Lord's, and he will give you into our hands.
Oh, let us remember that, beloved. The battle is the Lord's. The
battle is the Lord's. Oh my. And the Lord Jesus Christ,
think of this, the Lord Jesus Christ, by himself, has put away
our sin by the sacrifice of himself. He hath prevailed, scripture
says, having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a show of
them openly, triumphing over them. Oh my, innit? He did it himself, beloved. So
rejoice, my brethren. Let we who are the born-again
blood-washed people of God shout thanks to our great God and King,
the Lord Jesus Christ, as our salvation was completely accomplished
by our Lord Jesus Christ and him alone 2,000 years ago at
Calvary's Cross. He did not need our assistance. He didn't need it then and he
doesn't need it now, does he? No, no. He didn't ask for our
assistance. And he doesn't need our assistance
now. The record of the scripture is
clear on this fact, that the Lord Jesus Christ brought in
everlasting righteousness. How can it be called everlasting
righteousness? Because the one who weaved that
code of righteousness for us is the everlasting God. The word
of God incarnate in the flesh. And he freely imputes that perfect
righteousness unto his people. Listen to this in Daniel, Daniel
9, 24. Seventy weeks are determined
upon thy people and upon thy holy city to finish the transgression
and to make an end of sins. Beloved, he made the end of our
sins. That's why God doesn't remember them anymore. Listen
to this. And to make reconciliation for
iniquity. That's for my iniquity. That's for your iniquity if you're
a believer. That's for all the elect of God who will trust in
him who would not trust in him yet. Oh, isn't that wonderful? And to bring in everlasting righteousness
and to seal up the vision and prophecy and to anoint the most
holy. And marvel at what Paul wrote in Romans chapter four.
Speaking of sinners saved by Christ according to the mercy
and grace of God. Listen to this. This is just
mountaintop stuff. Romans four, verses six to eight.
Even as David also described it, the blessedness of the man
unto whom God imputed righteousness without works. Are you a born-again,
blood-washed believer? Then God has imputed to us righteousness
without works. We didn't do anything for it.
He imputed it to us, beloved. saying, Blessed are they whose
iniquities are forgiven, whose sins are covered. What are they
covered with? The blood of Christ, beloved.
When I see the blood, I'll pass over you. Oh, this is wonderful.
Blessed is the man or woman to whom the Lord will not impute
sin. Oh, beloved, if the Lord should
count iniquity, who shall stand? No one, but listen to these wonderful
words again. Even as David also described
the blessedness of the man unto whom God imputed righteousness
without work, saying, blessed are they whose iniquities are
forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man to whom the
Lord will not impute sin. Oh my, it's wonderful, beloved. The Lord Jesus Christ has made
complete perfect atonement for our sins, beloved of God, with
His own blood. He's prevailed! Is it any wonder
that the eternal song of glory is unto the Lamb that has prevailed? And what's that song? Worthy
is the Lamb! Where is the lamb? Listen to
this in Revelation 5 verses 9 and 10. One day, beloved, we'll sing
this song with the saints up in glory. And they sang a new
song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book and to open
the seals thereof, for Thou hast slain and has redeemed us. God
by thy blood out of every kindred and tongue and people and nation,
and has made us unto our God kings and priests, and we shall
reign on the earth. Praise the name of the Savior,
beloved. Praise our Redeemer, the Lord
Jesus Christ, who is God incarnate in the flesh. And what do we
say? Amen and amen.
