Open your Bible, if you would,
to Isaiah chapter 42. We're going to look at this wonderful
topic of Christ shall not fail. Our Savior is a successful Savior,
beloved. He truly saved His people from
their sins, and He was not any ordinary man. He's God incarnate
in the flesh, beloved. The scripture says in Isaiah
42, verse 4, we'll just read this one verse, He, speaking
of the Messiah, shall not fail. Note that word, shall. shall
not, oh my, he shall not fail nor be discouraged till he have
set judgment in the earth and the isle shall wait for his law. Isaiah 42, four. Now that we
who are the born again blood washed saints of God, this verse
is a wonderful promise. This is a wonderful promise for
us. God promises us that the Messiah shall not fail. What
shall he not fail in? He shall not fail to save us
from our sins. That's a wonderful promise. What
hope that gives us for our lost loved ones who do not know Christ.
We do not know who God's chosen people are, but He knows. And
this tells us He won't fail to bring one of them home. And this
is actually speaking of His redemptive work. The work is being completed. I preach a finished work. completed
2,000 years ago by the Lord Jesus Christ in him alone. And when
we're born again, when faith cometh by hearing and hearing
by the word of God, when we hear the gospel preached and the Holy
Spirit makes it effectual and we're regenerated, we're born
again, this becomes, we realize Christ died for me. Christ died
for me. And we trust him. for our salvation. We cast ourselves upon him as
the only savior of sinners, the only one who can save us from
our sins. And we see, we see this speaking
of the Messiah's work. He shall not fail. He didn't
fail. Our savior is a successful savior. He's not up there wringing
his hands thinking, oh, I sure hope people choose me. Oh, I
sure hope, I sure hope you let them save me. No, our Lord finished
the work. The work is done. He cried, it
is finished. And the Holy Spirit is drawing
those for whom Christ died. He's out there drawing. And we
preach the gospel to everyone because I don't know who the
elect are. I don't know who God's chosen people are, but God sure
does. God sure does. So what a promise
we have here. And you tie this promise into
what Peter wrote in 2 Peter 1.4, he said, whereby are given unto
us exceeding great and precious promises, that by these things
ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped
the corruption that is in the world through lust, 2 Peter 1.4. So one of the precious promises
is that the Messiah shall not fail, and he didn't. Rejoice,
beloved. We've been redeemed by God himself
2,000 years ago. Oh my. If God saved us, and he
did, will he fail to take any of us home? Not at all, beloved. What a promise. Not only did
he not fail at redeeming us, he won't fail at taking us home. Oh, what salvation. What a promise
we have here. Oh my. The Lord Jesus Christ
has been appointed by Almighty God and sent by God in the fullness
of time to accomplish all our salvation. He accomplished it
all. Our Lord proclaimed these very
words in John 17, verse 4. He says, I have glorified thee
on the earth. He's praying to the Father. I
have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. He's finished it. He's weaved
out the code of righteousness for us. He fulfilled the law
perfectly. And now he's just going to go
to the cross and he's going to redeem us with his blood, where again
he's going to cry, it's finished. The redemption will be finished.
Oh, so we see in this wonderful verse in Isaiah that the success
of the work of salvation is all done by the Lord Jesus Christ
in him alone. He saved sinners. 2,000 years ago when he died
on Calvary's cross, he saved sinners. Did you and I who are
believed, did we know that before the Lord regenerated us, before
we were born again? We didn't have a clue. But that
doesn't change the fact that he saved us 2,000 years ago,
he redeemed us. Oh, it's wonderful, beloved.
It's wonderful. And that which God purposed and
planned in eternity must come to pass in time, right? So God
the Father sends Christ into this world to redeem our eternal
souls, beloved. And then when the time of love
comes, he sends the Holy Spirit and regenerates us. And we're
born again and given faith to believe on the only savior of
sinners, the Lord Jesus Christ. Praise his mighty name. And all
this happens by the decree of God. Oh, it's wonderful, beloved. And we see here that God himself
declares that he shall not be discouraged. He will not fail. He shall not fail nor be discouraged,
speaking of the Messiah. My, oh, my. He came to save His
people from their sins by the decree of God, according to the
will and purpose of God, and He completed, the Lord Jesus
Christ completed the perfect work of redemption for His people
all by Himself. Praise His mighty name. God Himself
redeemed His people, sinners, by birth, nature, and choice.
How? With his own blood. The blood
of the God-man, the Lord Jesus Christ. And this all happened
according to the will and purpose of our great God. Listen to this,
speaking of his sovereign decree. And listen to the word, I am
God. Listen to this, this is just
marvelous. Isaiah chapter 46, verses 9 to 13. Listen, look
how much our Lord says, I'm gonna do this. I'm God. Listen to this. Starting in verse 9 of Isaiah
46. Look at that. Oh my. Remember our last message?
Our Lord said to the disciples, go and find, you're going to
find a donkey tied up, you can go find an ass tied up. And just
say to the people, the Lord needs them and they're going to give
it to you. And what happened? That's what happened. Oh, declaring
things that are not yet done. Saying, my counsel shall stand
and I will do all my pleasure. You see, God does whatever he
wants. Isn't that wonderful? Calling
the ravenous bird from the east, the man that executed my counsel
from a far country. Yea, look at this. Oh, this is
amazing. He shall not fail, remember?
Listen. Yea, I have spoken it. I will
also bring it to pass. I have purposed it. I will also
do it. Oh my, this is wonderful, beloved.
Hearken unto me, you stout-hearted, you stout-hearted that are far
from righteousness. That's us in our natural state.
I will bring near my righteousness. It shall not be far off, and
my salvation shall not tarry. Look at that. And I will place
salvation in Zion. Zion's another name for the church.
For Israel, my glory. Oh, my. Has he not placed salvation? The Lord Jesus Christ. He sent
him. He sent him. He's the only savior
of sinners. God incarnate in the flesh. Oh
my. Oh, and it's sad but true, but
every sinner has miserably failed to honor God in our natural state. We miserably fail to honor God. We miserably fail in our own
selves. We produce a righteousness that
does not satisfy God, because it's no righteousness at all.
It's like filthy rags in the eyes of the Lord. He can't look
upon sin, and all we are is sin. Oh my, but you know what? Although
all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, oh, how
much more do we have to rejoice? we who trust the Lord Jesus Christ,
we who have our faith and our hope is all in him, our great
savior, our surety. Hebrews 7.25 says, wherefore
he's also able to save to the uttermost them that come unto
God by him. Have you come to Christ? Have
you fled to Christ? I pray God will give you grace
to flee to Christ. Because all who come to him shall
be saved. It's wonderful. So let us consider
what work our Savior undertook, the surety of our of our salvation,
the Lord Jesus Christ, the surety of God's covenant people. And
what did he do that he did not fail in? Well, may we think upon
these things. Number one. The Lord Jesus Christ,
our Lord, did not fail to fulfill every type, picture, prophecy,
and promise recorded in the Old Testament. The scripture declares
of the Lord Jesus Christ, he said this himself, search the
scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life, and they
are they which testify of me. So what God promised in the covenant
of grace, our Lord Jesus Christ perfectly fulfilled. Number two.
Christ our Saviour, our Lord, did not fail to honour, magnify
and exalt the law of God for His covenant people." Oh, our
Lord proclaimed these words in Matthew 5, 17. He says, "'Think
not that I am come to destroy the law of the prophets. I am
not come to destroy, but to fulfill.'" Who did He fulfill the law for?
Us, we who are His people. He established a perfect righteousness. for his people, and sovereignly
and freely imputes it unto us, just as Isaiah 61, 10 brings
forth. I will greatly rejoice in the
Lord. My soul shall be joyful in my
God, for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation. He
hath covered me with a robe of righteousness. There's a bridegroom,
and decketh himself with ornaments. And there's a bride adorneth
herself with jewels. Oh, my. Number three, our Lord
Jesus Christ shall not fail to make complete and eternal atonement
for the sins of all his covenant people. But now, once in the
end of the world, he, Christ Jesus, our Lord, appeared to
put away sin. by the sacrifice of himself.
That's our sin, beloved. He's sinless, he's spotless.
The Lord Jesus Christ was sent by God to save his people from
their sins. Listen to this wonderful verse
in Hebrews 9, 26. For then must he often have suffered
since the foundation of the world, but now once in the end of the
world hath he appeared to put away sin. by the sacrifice of
himself. Rejoice, beloved of God. He put
away our sin. Oh, it's wonderful. By the sacrifice
of himself, the good shepherd, the Lord Jesus Christ, gave his
life as a sacrifice for the sins of all his sheep, who are sinners
by birth, nature, choice, and practice. That's what we are.
So marvel at this precious promise of God, that the Messiah, the
sent one of God, He came to save sinners from their sins, and
he shall not fail. He accomplished that 2,000 years
ago, beloved. He did not fail. He honored the
law of God in the room and place of his people. And God's born-again,
blood-washed people, we were redeemed out from under the law
2,000 years ago. This salvation is complete and
finished by the Lord Jesus Christ himself. My, oh, my. And number four, our Lord Jesus
Christ shall not fail to justify, redeem, sanctify, and call and
glorify all his covenant people. Oh, whom he did predestinate,
them he also called. And whom he called, them he also
justified. And whom he justified, them he also glorified. Romans
8, 30 and 31. My, oh my, turn if you would
to John chapter 17, if you have your Bible open. Our very hope
of salvation. Our very joy of eternal life
is all based upon the unfailing, perfect, complete, sin-atoning
work of the Lord Jesus Christ in our room and place, God incarnated
in the flesh, who cannot fail. Listen to these wonderful words
in John 17, verses one to five. These words spake Jesus and lifted
up his eyes to heaven and said, Father, the hour has come. Glorify
thy son, that thy son may also glorify thee, as thou hast given
him power over all flesh. that he should give eternal life
to as many as thou hast given him. And this is life eternal,
that they might know thee, the only true God, in Jesus Christ,
whom thou hast sent. Oh, it's wonderful. I have glorified
thee on the earth. I have finished the work which
thou gavest me to do. And now, O Father, glorify thou
me with thine own self, with the glory which I had with thee
before the world was. Oh, my, oh, my. Listen to these
wonderful words of our Savior. The Lord Jesus Christ, just before
he died on the cross, in John chapter 19, verse 30, when Jesus
therefore had received the vinegar, he said, it is finished. He's a successful savior, beloved. He redeemed us from all our sins
right there. He said it's finished. And he
bowed his head and gave up the ghost. What was finished? The
work of salvation. The work of salvation that the
Lord Jesus Christ was sent to do to save his covenant people
from all their sins. He was sent to save his people
from their sins, Matthew 121. Thou shalt call his name Jesus,
for he shall save his people from their sins. What a promise
we have here. So let we who are the redeemed
of the Lord rejoice, as God proclaimed that Christ should not fail in
the work of redemption for our eternal souls. And he proclaimed
that the work was finished at his death. Finished at his death. it is finished was our lord's
words and speaking of the redemption of his people from all their
sins and what do we say praise his mighty name amen and amen
