Wayne Boyd December, 31 2023

The sermon delivered by Wayne Boyd focuses on the various titles of Christ found in the New Testament, emphasizing their significance in revealing His nature, work, and sovereign reign. The preacher articulates that each title encapsulates essential Christian doctrines, such as Christ's incarnation, kingship, and redemptive power, using Scripture references from the Gospels to highlight these aspects. For instance, Matthew 1:1 declares Jesus as the “Son of David” and “Son of Abraham,” affirming His fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecies. Furthermore, titles such as “King of the Jews” (Matthew 2:2), “Lamb of God” (John 1:29), and “Bread of Life” (John 6:35) illustrate His multifaceted role as Savior and Lord, providing believers with comfort and assurance amidst life's uncertainties. The sermon concludes by underscoring the doctrinal implications of these titles, encouraging believers to find solace in the person and work of Christ, the embodiment of hope, power, and grace.

Well today, I thought it would
be a blessing since we're coming into the new year as Brother
Neal said. I thought it would be a blessing
for us to look at some titles in the New Testament of our Lord
Jesus Christ. Now there's much in the title
isn't there? There's much in the name isn't there? We can identify the President
of the United States by the fact that he's called the President
of the United States and the Prime Minister of Canada.
You can recognize them by their title, the Queen of England.
There's only one person that has that title, those titles
at a time, right? Well today we're going to look
just in the New Testament at some titles of our wonderful,
merciful Savior. And in the titles of His name
and who He is, they describe who He is. He's the only Savior
of sinners. There's no other hope outside
of Christ for a sinner. But all that a sinner needs is
found in Christ. Even found in His titles. of who He is. And I want us as
believers, we who are born again of the Holy Spirit of God who
are here, I want us to consider these titles in light of how
much the titles of Christ tell us how great our Savior is. When
we get anxious in this world, When we see the world in our
eyes spinning out of control, and yet he's absolutely sovereign
over all things, in sickness and in health, good times and
bad times, these titles can bring us great comfort. And that's
what God commands the preacher, comfort ye, comfort ye my people,
saith the Lord. And the only way I can do that,
I can't give you comfort on my own. But I can preach what God's
put on my heart. And I can tell you about my king,
because he's my king. If he wasn't my king, I couldn't
tell you about him. But I can tell you about the one who saved
my soul. And so let us glean comfort out of these titles. that our Lord Jesus Christ is
named. Again, the titles of Christ,
the names of Christ proclaim who he is. They tell us what
he's done. They tell us where he is. And we will be able to identify
him very plainly if God the Holy Spirit gives us and understanding
of the scriptures, right? Outside of that we don't have
a clue. You might want to take a pen
and write some of these references down to be able to look at early
or later because we're going to be going through them pretty
fast. I put them in order though, starting in Matthew, so turn
if you would to Matthew chapter 1. But we are going to be moving
at a rapid rate. And all I'm going to do is read
these titles to you and give you little comments on them.
Because they're pretty self-explanatory. But oh, what comfort the believer
can find in these titles. These names of Christ. And my
prayer is that God the Holy Spirit would illuminate the Scriptures
for us. Teach us the things of Christ. Give us comfort as we
need comfort. And, you know, like Brother Neil
said, there's another year coming. We don't have any clue what's
coming. But thankfully, we're trusting in the one who knows
tomorrow, right? And the tomorrow after that,
and the tomorrow after that, and the tomorrow after that. Until
the end of time. And remember, time is a place
we're trapped in. God's not, he's not in time and
space. He's outside of time and space.
That's why one day to him is like a thousand years for us. My oh my. So look at this here. Starting in Matthew chapter 1
verse 1. Right off the bat in the New Testament. The book of
the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of
Abraham. So right away we see two titles here. The son of David,
and the son of Abraham. Remember God promised Abraham
that out of his line would come the seed, singular, being Christ. And the Messiah is to come from
the lineage of David. Here we have it right set before
us. And then flip over to Matthew chapter 2. Now the Jews denied Christ. Many of them, some by the grace
of God accepted him as Messiah, but many of them rejected him.
Look at this title here, Matthew chapter 2, verse 2. Saying, where
is he that is born? Look at that, born king. Here's
our dear sister Linda saying, God incarnated in the flesh.
Born king. Born king. But look at this title,
King of the Jews. Oh, we've seen a star in the
east and are come to worship him. What a title. There's another title. King of
the Jews. Remember what Pilate wrote? He
even wrote it on the inscription above the cross. And the Jews
were mad, weren't they? Well, do you know he's king of
spiritual Israel? Right? Who are we? Spiritual
Jews. King of the Jews, isn't he? Amen. Oh my, it's wonderful. He's not
just king of the Jews in the earth, he's king overall, isn't
he? And have you noticed something there? Look at this, he that
was born king. No one made him king. God beat
everyone. People say, just make Jesus Lord
of your life. God beat all of us to that, didn't he? Look at
that, he's born king, beloved. He was king, he's born king,
and you know what he is right now? He's still king. Praise
God, he's still king. Now go over to Matthew 2, verse
15. Now look at this. Oh, Sister
Linda's saying that he's God in the flesh, right? God incarnate
in the flesh. See, they thought he was just
a man. They thought, oh, he's just Joseph's son. Little did
they know that he wasn't Joseph's son. He's the son of God. And
this is a title. This is what he's called, beloved.
He's the Messiah. He's God in the flesh. Look at
this. In Matthew 2.15. Look at this. And there was until
the death of Harold that it might be fulfilled, which was spoken
of the Lord by the prophet. Out of Egypt have I called my
son. He's called the Son of God. Look at that. He's called the
Son of God. God himself said, this is my
son. Oh my. Now turn, if you would, to Matthew
chapter nine. And marvel at what we just read
there. The word of God became flesh. The second person of the
Trinity. That's our Savior. Our Savior
is no mere man. Our Savior is God incarnated
in the flesh. He's the word of God, beloved.
The sent one. Sent by the Father. Now look
at this. Oh my. You know he's proclaimed
to be our bridegroom. We're his bride, beloved. We're
his bride. I had a friend of mine at West.
We talked to people who sometimes who didn't like the doctrine
of election. The fact that God chooses a bride.
And he looked at one fellow one night and he says, are you married?
And the guy said, yeah. And he goes, did you choose your bride
or did someone else? And he said, well I chose my
bride. He said, why can't Christ choose his bride then? Oh my goodness, eh? And we are chosen in Christ,
right? Before the foundation of the world. This is a blessed,
blessed fact. I marvel that God chose me, do
you? Do you marvel that God chose you? Isn't that amazing? Because we were never chosen
him, right? As the old hymn writer wrote. But He chose us in love. That's spectacular. Look at this.
Matthew 9, verse 15. The title it has. And Jesus said
unto them, Can the children of the bride chamber mourn as long
as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the
bridegroom shall be taken away from them. And he was at Calvary's
cross when he died and was buried. And then they shall fast. Do
you know the believers married to Christ? Isn't that wonderful? We're the
bride of Christ, beloved, by God's choice. That's mercy, isn't it? He's
called the Lord our righteousness. The bride's called the Lord our
righteousness. It's amazing. We're His. We're
His. And He is our Lord. He is our
King. He's our Savior. My oh my! Now turn, if you would,
to Mark. Mark. Now this part here, this
part here, just absolutely, I love this section of Scripture with
the gathering demoniac. I don't know what it is, but
I love the fact that after the Lord, He's sitting at the feet
of Christ, And he's in his right mind, and he's clothed. He was
naked before, and he's clothed, which of course pictures us in
our right mind after the Lord saves us. And then we're clothed
in the righteousness of Christ. But look at this, note this.
The scripture says in James that the devils believe and tremble.
The devils are smarter than unsaved men. Before the Lord saved me,
I didn't tremble at God, did you? to my shame. Now I know who he is. I'm in
awe of who he is. And the fact that he didn't just
say, you're dead. No. My, look at this. Look what they call him here.
This is spectacular, beloved. This is amazing. Look at Mark
chapter 1 verses 24 and 25. Now these demons, man, they know
who he is. They know the power that He has.
Oh my, He's all powerful. Look at this. Saying, let us
alone, what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth?
Art thou come to destroy us? They know He has the power to
destroy them. That's our Savior. He hasn't
even went to the cross yet, and they're saying, I know thee who
thou art, the Holy One of God. Look at that. And Jesus rebuked him saying,
hold thy peace and come out of him. Look at that, what power. They identified him. They know
exactly who he is and they are terrified of him. And yet man, we shake our fist
at God. Oh, the depravity of man, right? That just shows us
our depravity. That's all that shows us. Just
how depraved we are. Here are the demons. The demons
that are in this man, they're terrified. Are thou come to destroy
us? Look at that though. I know who
thou art. Look at this title. I love this title. The Holy One
of God. Notice there's only one. There's
only one sent one. Christ is the only one who's
holy out of all mankind. That title couldn't be given
to any one of us, could it? He's the holy one of God. He's
the sinless one. He's the spotless, perfect Lamb
of God. Now turn, if you would, to Mark,
chapter 15. Let us acknowledge, even as we
were reading there, that even the fallen angels know who he
is, and they're kept silent when he says, hold your peace. They can't say a thing after
that. And this is the same one who
commanded that storm that was raging to be still. So whatever
troubles come in our lives, know that this is the one who's right
with us. This is the one who keeps us.
We fall, oh we fall so much, and he just picks us up and carries
us, doesn't he? You know, He'd been carrying
us our whole life and we didn't even know it. He'd been carrying us our whole
life and we didn't even know it. But these demons, they tremble
at His presence. And then notice the power and
authority that our Lord exercised. He silenced them with a word. They were muzzled. They couldn't
say another word. And then He said, get out. Oh my. Now look at this. You've heard me say this many
times. He's king before he came. He's king when he was born, as
we just saw earlier. And now we're seeing him proclaimed
to be the King of Israel. Look at this, Mark chapter 15,
verse 32. Let Christ, the King of Israel, descend now from the
cross, that we may see and believe. And they that were crucified
with him reviled him. Look at what His enemies proclaim
in their ignorance the very title of who He is. He's the King of
Israel. We just saw He's the Holy One
of Israel. The Holy One of God. And now
here His enemies proclaim Him to be the King of Israel. And notice in that text, "...and
they that were crucified with Him reviled Him." Both thieves? Both thieves reviled him. And we know, we know that the
Holy Spirit regenerated one of those thieves, right? And all
he said was, Lord, remember me. And our great King said today,
thou shalt be with me in paradise. What mercy, what mercy. One is cast in these words at
him, and it's one of his sheep. Oh my, what mercy our King has
on his people. And this is in his death. Oh my, he's bleeding and dying
right there for you and I, beloved. And there's our King, the King
of Israel. He's born Messiah, isn't he?
He's born King, isn't he? He's the King of Kings and Lord
of Lords. And why did he come here? We saw last week. Why did
he come here? He came to save his people from
their sins. That's the whole reason he was born. It's the
whole reason he became a man, to save his people from their
sins. That's the whole reason. Every believer can say, he came
to save me from my sins. He did that willingly. We saw
last week, too. He willingly gave up the ghost,
right? Willingly. The greatest birth of all time
is the birth of Christ, as Brother Travis said. The greatest birth
that ever occurred in this world. My, oh my. Next, let's go to
Luke. Luke. We see here that he's proclaimed
to be the horn of salvation in Luke 1, 68 and 69, Luke chapter
1. This shows us the humanity of
Christ. The horn represents the strength. But this also shows us the humanity
of our Lord, that he was bone of our bone and flesh of our
flesh, beloved. And these are titles given to
our King. Rightful titles. Right? Do we have strength to save ourselves?
No. Not even from one sin. And here
he is, our King, dying on that cross, redeeming a number that
no man can number. We can't even imagine. We can't
even number how many people are going to be in glory. Isn't that
wonderful? And every one of us who are there are going to marvel
that we're there. Every one of us. My, we're going to just marvel. Look at this. Luke 1, 68 and
69. Blessed be the Lord God of Israel,
for he hath visited and redeemed his people. He has, hasn't he?
He sent a Savior, didn't he? And you know, salvation's already
done. Notice that. and redeemed his people. It's
a finished work, beloved, in God's eyes, and has raised up
a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David.
Remember in the first verse we looked at, he's called the son
of David? Horn of salvation, the strong
one, the strong and mighty one, the one who's able to save those
who cannot save themselves. Isn't that wonderful? What a
title. Now Luke chapter 2, turn there if you would. The word
consolation means comfort. Do you need to be comforted?
Do you need to be comforted? There's only one who can give
true comfort. That's the one I preach. The Lord Jesus Christ. Comfort can come and go for us,
can't it? It ebbs and flows in our lives. But if we're looking
to Christ, we can have true comfort. Right? When I get my eyes off
Christ and my peace goes away, does yours? My comfort goes away? But if I keep my eyes fixed upon
Him, oh my, the joy that floods my soul, even in the midst of
tears and sorrow. You ever had joy and sorrow at
the same time? Oh my. It's amazing. It's amazing. Look at this. Oh Simeon, oh Simeon. Simeon was told that he wouldn't
die until he saw the Lord's Christ. And I know Brother Travis preached
on this, wonderful message on this. And look what he says here,
look at what he calls him. And behold, verse 25, and behold
there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, The same
was just and devout in Christ, waiting for the consolation of
Israel. What a title! There's a title of our King.
The consolation, the comfort of Israel. And the Holy Ghost
was upon him. This title speaks of Christ as
Messiah. As Messiah. To the Jews. And what a comforter Christ is.
And then he sends the comforter to us, doesn't he? The Holy Spirit
of God. And we're born again. And what
great comfort we now get even from the titles of Christ, but
from the preaching of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and
the preaching of Him. Christ and Him crucified. What
joy we now receive. What comfort we now receive. Oh my. Turn if you would now
to John chapter 1. We see here in two verses in
John chapter 1 that Christ is called the only begotten Son. We know he's called the Word
in verses 1 to 3. In the beginning was the Word
and the Word was with God and the Word was God. The same was
in the beginning with God. He's the Word of God. And then
we know that's the second person of the Trinity by God teaching
us. Look what it says here. Marvel at this. And the Word,
verse 14. The Word, the very one spoken
of in verse 1. The Word was made flesh. He became something he never
was. You see, God can't die, can he? But man can die, right? So God becomes a man so he can
die for his bride. Die for the sins of his people.
A sinful people, an ungodly people we're called in Scripture. Look
at that. And marvel at this incarnation.
Marvel at the humility of our Lord. And the word was made flesh
and dwelt among us. And we beheld his glory. John
is writing this. He saw him like we see each other.
He heard him like we hear each other. He interacted with him
like we interact with each other. Look at this. We beheld His glory. The glory is of the only begotten
of the Father, full of grace and truth. Christ is full of
grace. Someone says, well, my sins are
so dark, they're so bad. Christ is full of grace, full
of grace to cover your sins. His grace is sufficient, right? My he's able he's able to save
to the uttermost those who come to him Come to the father through
him. He's able to save it all who
come to him I'll tell you has he ever turned one away that
come to him never He's full of grace and truth Full of it full. He's the epitome of grace and
truth beloved Oh my, this is God incarnated
in the flesh. And then look at verse 18. No
man has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, which
is in the bosom of the Father, He hath declared Him. Christ is seeing God. Christ
is one with the Father and one with the Holy Spirit. We've never
seen God. We have faith in someone we've
never seen, right? But see, faith is the evidence
of things hoped for. If we saw him, we wouldn't hope
for him, would we? Because we'd see him. See, our
hope will cease in heaven and become sight. Ever think of that? Our loved ones who went to be
with the Lord, the hope is finished now. They're seeing Christ face
to face now. Oh my, isn't that wonderful?
And one day, our faith, our hope, will become sight. And it'll
be glorious. I'll tell you what, it'll be
glorious. And He declared Him, didn't He?
Christ declares the Father. He came here to glorify the Father. He came here to fulfill the law
of God perfectly for us. Oh, what a Savior. Now look at
John 129. Same Jesus here. Look at this. What a title here. The Lamb of
God. Now God's Lamb. God commanded
that a lamb to be offered at the sacrifice had to be perfect,
right? No flaw, no blemish. Right? Nothing. Couldn't be anything
wrong with that. That lamb. Here's God's Lamb. The sinless. The sinless one. The spotless one. The one who
said, Satan cometh and hath nothing in me. That can't be said of
you and I, can it? He said, Satan has nothing in
me. He can't find one flaw. He can't
find one sin. He's the sinless one. And then
he goes and dies for the sins of his people. Marvel at that. The whole reason being, again,
he's sent to save his people from their sins and how will
he accomplish that? By his death on Calvary's cross.
But look at John gives him this title. I love this title. This
is wonderful. Because he's perfect. He's spotless.
He's sinless. Look at this. The next day, John
sees Jesus coming, verse 29, unto him and says, Behold, the
Lamb of God will take away the sin of the world. Look at that. Now he's the Savior of people,
of people who are all over the world, isn't he? Out of every
tongue, tribe, kindred, and nation. Right? He's the Savior of sinners, and
all who flee to him shall be saved. So the Spirit and the
bride say, come, come sinner friend, flee to Christ. You'll
find out that we're just a bunch of saved sinners here rejoicing
over what Christ has done for us. We're no better than anyone
else. As a matter of fact, we see ourselves
as the least of all saints, don't we? Oh my. We want God to be exalted. We want Christ to be exalted,
don't we? Oh my. Then look at verse 36.
And looking up upon Jesus as He walked, He said, Behold, the
Lamb of God. There He is. And see, that's
what preachers do. That's what we do. Behold the
Lamb of God. Look and live. Look to Christ
and live. Behold the one who is the Lamb
of God. Behold the sinless one dying
for sinners. Behold the one who's full of
grace and truth. Behold the one who has mercy.
Mercy upon sinners. My oh my. What a Savior. What a Redeemer is Jesus Christ
our Lord. Now look at John 6.35. Now we're
going to see here a few of those I am's. Oh here we go. He is the great I am. Remember
he told Abraham or he said before Abraham was I am to those Jews
and in John chapter 8 and to Moses he appeared to Moses in
the burning bush and he says I am that I am and he appeared
to Joshua in Joshua chapter 5 and says take off your shoes because
the feet you walk on is holy ground oh my you know why that ground
is called holy ground only because Christ is there That's all. Oh my! Oh my! Look at this in John chapter
6, verse 35. Here's one of the wonderful titles
of our King. He's called the Bread of Life.
We need bread to live, don't we? Right? You need bread to
live. We need food to live. Christ
is the bread for us. Look at this. John 6, 35. And
Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life. He that cometh
to me shall never hunger. And he that believeth on me shall
never thirst. Oh, what a Savior. Now turn to
John chapter 8. Another one of the I Am's. Oh my. You know, we once walked
in total darkness. Hmm. And how dark that darkness
was, we didn't even know we were in darkness, did we? But praise
God, he's transformed his people from the kingdom of darkness
to the wonderful light of his gospel,
and the light who is Christ. Look at this, John chapter 8,
verse 12. Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light
of the world. He that followeth me shall not
walk in darkness, but shall have light of life. Oh, my. The believer is now born again
of the Holy Spirit of God and walks in the light. And that's
Christ. And then look at verse 12 again.
He's proclaimed again to be the I am. Then Jesus unto them said,
I am the light of the world. I am. He that followeth me shall
not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. He's
the I am incarnate. Isn't that wonderful? The very
one who is our Savior is the very one who spoke to Moses at
the burning bush. I am. Now go to John chapter 10. And we see here he's proclaimed
to be the door of the sheep. Oh my. You know, death is just
a doorway. Death is just a doorway into
glory, beloved. Into the presence of the King.
And heaven's only heaven because Christ is there. In heaven is
the one who we will worship and adore is the Lord Jesus Christ
for eternity. Look at this. John chapter 10
verses 7 to 9. Then said Jesus unto them, Verily,
verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. There's
no other way. There's no other way into the
sheep pen. There's no other way in or out of God's pasture. I
am the door, by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved.
Look at that. There's that little word again, shall. Are you in Christ? Well, you're
saved then. Right? That's what it says there.
And the only one who can know if you're saved is you and God,
right? Truly. Look at that. This is
so comforting. I'm the door, by me if any man
enter in, verse 9. He shall be saved. Oh my, that's
wonderful. And shall go in and out and find
pasture. And where do we feast? Well,
we feast in the green pastures of his word, don't we? That's
where we feast. That's where we feast. Then look
at verse 11. Look at this proclamation. He
says, I am the good shepherd. Here's another wonderful title.
You ever watch a shepherd with sheep? They care for those sheep. If
they're a good shepherd, they'll care for them. They'll keep the
wolves away. They'll make sure they have water and food. And
they'll care well for them. Look at this. He says, I'm the
good shepherd. There's no shepherd like this shepherd, is there?
And we're called the sheep of his hand. You know that in the
Old Testament? God's people are called the sheep of his hand. Look at this though. The good
shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. That's what Christ did for his
people, isn't that, at Calvary's Cross? He gave his life. He gave his life for the sheep.
And think of this. All through our life, all through
our life, and right up to the appointed time of our death,
the great shepherd is ever watching over us. And then he takes us
home to be with him forever. He cares, he watches over us
all through our pilgrimage on this earth. Even when sometimes
we feel like he's not there, he's still there. Because even
when we're not faithful, he's faithful. Isn't that amazing? What a great
God we have. What a glorious Savior we have,
beloved. The Lord Jesus Christ. Oh my. And then now turn, if you would,
to John chapter 11. John chapter 11. Look at this. We were just talking
about this, Sister Carolyn, the other day. Jesus is talking to Martha and
Mary, and they're like, why didn't you come? Why didn't you come?
And look at verses 25 and 26. They said, our brother would
still be alive for you to come. Well, it was all ordained by
God, right? This all happened according to
God's ordination, according to God's providence. Why? Look at this wonderful statement
here. And then we also know that Lazarus was raised from the grave.
Look at this. And there's a question here that
is one of the most important questions that you and I could
ever be asked. Look at this. Verse 25, Jesus
saith unto her, I am the resurrection and the life. He that believeth
in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live. And whosoever liveth and believeth
on me shall never die. Now here's a question for every
one of us in this room and anyone who will ever listen to this
message. Believest thou this? Believest thou this? And whosoever
liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Look at that, there's
that little word shall again, isn't it? Believest thou this. It doesn't matter what our dearest
family member believes. When it comes to this and what
I'm saying, it matters what we believe. But what I'm saying
is because I believe that doesn't mean my son will automatically
believe that or my daughter will automatically believe that. I
pray they will. But that's a question for each
of us as individuals, isn't it? Believest thou this. Oh, by the grace of God, I believe,
right? I believe that Jesus is the resurrection
and the life. Oh, and I pray my son and daughter
will believe one day. If the Lord wills, oh, that would
be wonderful. But the question is to the individual. Believest thou this? We only have eternal life in
and through Christ alone. There is no other way. There
is absolutely no other way. And then look at John 14, verse
six. Look what our Lord proclaims.
Three titles here that our Lord proclaims of himself. You've
often heard me quote this verse. Wonderful, wonderful verse. But
you know what? There's only one way to the Father.
There's only one way, and that's Christ. He says here, I am the
way. One way. Not multiple ways to
the God, like false people say out there. One way. This is the
word. Now think of this too. This is
the word of the God man. This is the words of the word
of God who became flesh and dwelt among us. So basically what people
are saying when they say there's many ways to God, they are calling
the Word of God a liar. You ever think of that? That's
serious, isn't it? He says, I am. Another I am, right? I am the
way. Salvation's not through Muhammad.
Salvation's not through Buddha. Salvation's not through the Catholic
Church. Salvation's not through water baptism. Salvation's not
through the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Salvation's not through
anything but Christ. He says, I am the way. Period. Right? And then he says this, I'm the
truth. Now scripture says every man's
a liar, but this man never lied. He could say with full confidence,
I'm the truth. And think of this in light of
all these false religions that say, oh, there's salvation over
here, there's salvation over here. There's only one truth. There's
only one way, and there's only one truth, right? And then look
what he says, he ties this in too. He says, and a life. So he's the way, he's the truth,
and he's a life. See, outside of Christ is eternal
damnation, eternal death. In Christ is eternal life. Isn't that wonderful? And he
said, mercy upon you and I who believe and given us faith to
believe on him. What grace, what mercy we have
received. And then look, he even brings
it forth here. No man cometh under me or cometh
under the father, but by me. There's no way to see God the
father except through Christ. That's why God the father said,
this is my beloved son in whom I'm well pleased. I'm pleased
with him. He's done everything I ever commanded.
He's fulfilled it perfectly as a substitute. Now marvel at that. He did it as our substitute. Willingly. Paid every debt that
we had to the law of God. Paid in full with his precious
blood. That stamp is stamped with his
blood, beloved. Paid in full. My, what a Savior
we have. My. And then turn one more chapter
over. So we saw there, there's only
eternal life in and through Christ. He's the way, the truth, and
the life. Look at chapter 15, verse 1, another I Am statement. He says, I'm the true vine. I'm
the true vine. And then look down verse five.
Isn't it verse five? John chapter five, one, or John
chapter 15, verse five. That's one of my favorite verses
right there, because I'll tell you what, I can't do nothing
outside of Christ. Look at this. I'm the vine, and ye are the
branches. He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth
forth much fruit. For without me ye can do what?
Someone tell me. Nothing. Amen. Nothing! We can't do nothing! We can't save ourselves. We can't
satisfy God's law and justice. We can't do nothing. The only
thing we're good at is sinning. Right? Oh my. But praise God for salvation
in and through Christ. Now let's hit the book of Acts,
chapter 3. Acts chapter 3. I gotta speed this up. I'm running
out of time. Well that's typical, isn't it?
Oh my. Oh my. Acts chapter 3. You know our Lord is called the
Prince of Life. Isn't that wonderful? We are saved by the Prince of
Life. Look at this, Acts chapter 3 verses 14 and 15. But she denied
the Holy One, remember? Remember the demons even call
Him the Holy One? Well, God the Holy Spirit has this bought forth
again. Remember the true author of these words, God the Holy
Spirit. He has it bought out again. But she denied the Holy
One and the Just. He is the only human who has
ever been the Holy One and the Just One. Perfect. Perfect in
thought, word, and deed. Perfect in everything. Everything. and desired a murderer to be
granted unto you, and killed the prince of life whom God hath
raised from the dead, wherever we are witness." He alone is
the author of life. He's the giver of life, isn't
he? He is the giver of life. He's the giver of life, natural
life, and spiritual life. And he's the giver of eternal
life. Why? Because he is the living God. Now turn to, if you
would, Acts chapter 5. Acts chapter 5. Oh my. Acts chapter 5, verses 30 and
31. We see our Lord called the Prince
and Savior. Praise God he's the Savior, isn't
he? Oh my. The God, verse 30 and 31, the
God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you slew and hanged
on the tree. Him hath God exalted with his
right hand to be Prince and a Savior, for to give repentance to Israel
and forgiveness of sins. Look at that. Repentance is given
to us. It's not something we have naturally.
Isn't that amazing? And look at that, and the forgiveness
of sins. How many sins? All of them, eh? I thought I just heard someone
say all. All! All our sins. There's not one that's not covered,
beloved. And remember this, all our sins were future at Calvary's
Cross. Every single one of them. Praise be to God. We have forgiveness
of all our sins. My oh my. We know he's called
the just one. I'm going to give you a few here
without turning there. He's proclaimed to be the judge
of the living and dead, Acts 10.42. He's proclaimed to be
the just one, Acts 7.52. He's proclaimed to be the hope
of Israel. Oh, what a hope we have. Let's
turn to that one, Acts 28. I'll tell you what, we don't
have hope outside of Christ, do we? We have no hope outside
of Christ. But oh, what a Savior we have. Oh, what a Redeemer we have.
And what a hope we have as believers in Christ. I'll tell you what,
I had no hope. You know, I was terrified to
die, and before the Lord saved me, I had no hope. I didn't know
what was coming. I was terrified to die. Now,
now it's just a doorway. Brother, what you said about
your dad, that was amazing. You know, it's appointed by God
for me to die and he just trusts in them. And that's what we do
as believers. God has an appointed time for
every one of us and we just rest and trust because he's our hope
now. Look at this, look at this in Acts chapter 28. Verse 20,
for this cause therefore I have called you to see you and to
speak with you. Now this is Paul, he's bringing
all the Ephesian elders, I believe, in this chapter together because
he's going to leave them. He knows he's going to leave
them. And this is what he says, because that for the hope of
Israel I am bound with this chain. See, he knew that he was in binds because he hoped in Christ, who
is the hope, who is the hope of his people. Oh, so he's called
here the hope of Israel. Is he your hope? Oh, he's all
our hope, isn't he? He's all our hope, the Lord Jesus
Christ. Oh, and God's given us that hope.
I'll go through a few more here in Romans, and I'll just read
them out if you want to write down the addresses. Romans 9.33,
he's proclaimed to be the rock of offense. He's the rock of
offense. And then in Romans 11.26, he's
proclaimed to be the deliverer. Oh, what a deliverer he is, isn't
he? He delivered us from our sins, isn't he? He delivered
us from our sins. And then in Romans 14.9, he's
called the Lord of the dead and the living. And then He's proclaimed
to be our Passover in 1 Corinthians 5-7. He's proclaimed to be the
last Adam. Remember the first Adam fell? He's the last Adam. He's the
one who saves us from our sins. We fell on our father Adam and
now we're in Christ and we're made whole again. And that's
in 1 Corinthians 15-45. In Galatians 1-3, He's proclaimed
to be Lord, just Lord. The Lord Jesus Christ. That's
his full title, isn't it? I heard Ralph Bernard used to
always like to call him by his full title. He didn't like to
just say Jesus or Christ. He said, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Give him his full title. Give him his full title. Oh my. And then Ephesians 1.22, he's
proclaimed to be the head over all things. He's absolutely sovereign. He's absolutely sovereign. And
then in Ephesians 2.20, he's proclaimed, let's turn there,
Ephesians 2.20, let's turn there, because this is an important
one. They're all important, but this is really important, because
we were talking about this the other day. I was talking, I think,
with Sister Carolyn about this, the foundation. Kevin, we were
talking about, I thought we were, but the foundation, the true
foundation is Christ. See, man's foundation, and we
were all there, is on sinking sand. Right? When we hope in ourselves or
when we hope in something we do, that's sinking sand, beloved. But if our hope is Christ, oh
what a foundation we have. We then have a foundation of
the chief cornerstone. Look at this, Ephesians chapter
2, verses 19 to 21. Now therefore you are no more
strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints
and of the household of God. and are built upon the foundation
of the apostles, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone,
in whom all the building fitly framed together groweth into
a holy temple in the Lord. So we're called here a holy temple
of the Lord. And notice this, all the building
fitly framed, framed by God. And we all fit in exactly where
we're supposed to be. Isn't that amazing? That's just amazing. Turn if
you would to Philippians chapter 2. We're going to be studying
this in Sunday School, not very long. A few more messages in
Galatians and then we'll be going to Philippians. Prison Epistle. Paul writes this in prison. He's
in a Roman prison, look what he writes. Philippians 2 verses
9 to 11. Wherefore God also hath highly
exalted him and given him a name which is above every name. Christ's
name is a name above every name. that in the name of Jesus every
knee shall bow. I mean everyone who despised
him, everyone who worshiped him. Every single knee shall bow.
I'll tell you what, there won't be one not bowing. Of things
in heaven and things on earth and things under the earth. In
verse 11, Philippians 2.11, in that every tongue should confess
that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.
Look at that. Oh my! Isn't that wonderful? My oh my. I'll read a few more just to
address this. Colossians 1.15, he's proclaimed
to be the image of the invisible God. Colossians 1.18, he's the
head of the body, the beginning and the firstborn from the dead.
And then in Colossians 1.27, a wonderful title, the hope of
glory. Do you notice the word hope coming
up a lot? Oh my, he's our hope, isn't he? And in 2 Thessalonians
3.16, he's proclaimed to be the Lord of Peace. Oh beloved, we
have peace with God through the Lord Jesus Christ. There's no
other way. And then in 1 Timothy 1.17, he's proclaimed to be the
King of Ages. In 1 Timothy 2.5, he's proclaimed
to be the One Meteor. There's only one meteor between
God and man. Remember he said, I'm the way?
There's not two meteors, there's not three meteors, there's only
one. Only one. Same one who said, I am the way,
the truth, and the life. And in 1 Timothy 6, 15, he's
like this. He's the only potentate. There's
a man over in Rome who claims to be a potentate. He ain't no
potentate. He's just a man in a funny hat.
That's all he is. That's all he is. He has no power
at all. No power at all. Christ is proclaimed
in 1 Timothy 6.15, the only potentate, the King of kings and the Lord
of lords. That's our King. That's the one who we rest our
souls in, isn't it? My, oh, my. My, oh, my. Titus 2.13, he's called the great
God and Savior of his people. Hebrews 2.17, he's proclaimed
to be the faithful high priest. Hebrews 12.2, he's proclaimed
to be the author and finisher of our faith. James 2.1, He's proclaimed to
be the Lord of Glory. Look at these titles. They're
amazing. 1 Peter 5.4, He's the Chief Shepherd. We just read
before He's the Good Shepherd. Now He's the Chief One. He is
the Supreme One. He's the Supreme Shepherd. And
1 John 2.1, He's proclaimed to be our Advocate and the Righteous. He's the Righteous One. He's
the only one who's righteous. And then I love this 1 John 4
10. He's proclaimed to be our propitiation. Oh, my. Listen to this. Hearing
his love, not that we love God, but that he loved us and sent
his son to be the propitiation for our sins. Oh, God's so merciful,
isn't he? Isn't he so merciful? It's wonderful. And then in Jude, he's, Jude
verse 25, only one chapter, he's proclaimed to be the only wise
God, our Savior. Oh my, now turn to Revelation
1. Revelation 1, we'll go through these titles in Revelation and
then we'll be finished. Revelation chapter 1. In the
Greek alphabet, it starts with Alpha and it ends with Omega.
Right? Look what it said of our King,
Revelation 1, verse 17 and 18. And when I saw him, I fell at
his feet as dead, and he laid his right hand upon me, saying,
Father, or saying unto me, there is those two words again we looked
at last week as well, fear not. God says to his people in Christ,
fear not. I am the first and the last.
I am he that liveth and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore,
amen, and have the keys of hell and death. He's the alpha and
the omega. He's the first and the last we
see there. Oh my. You know what? I missed
a verse there, didn't I? I missed a verse there. It says
he's the first and the last there. Verse 11, I am the Alpha and
the Omega, the first and the last. And then he says over here
in verse 17 and 18, same chapter, Let's go to verse 18. I am he
that liveth and was dead and behold I am alive forevermore.
Amen. And have the keys of hell and death. And he also said in
the latter part of verse 17, fear not I am the first and the
last. Look at that. The Alpha and the Omega. Now
let's turn to Revelation chapter 5. I'll tell you if you're low
and you want to be blessed just read Revelation chapter 5. Look
at this in verse 5. I want you to look at one verse
here. What a title! You know the first time he came
as a lamb, right? Second time he comes, he comes
as a lion. Oh my! Look at verse 5. And one of the elders said unto
me, Weep not, behold the lion of the tribe of Judah, the root
of David hath prevailed to open the book and to loose the seven
seals thereof. And then in Revelation 19, We see the title brought forth
again, that he's the Word of God. Look at verse 13. And was clothed with a vesture,
dipped in blood, and his name is called the Word of God. And
then verse 16. And he hath on his vesture and
on his thigh a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.
And then last one, Revelation 22. Oh my, what a title. What a title to finish it. Revelation
22, verse 16. I, Jesus, have sent my angels
to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root
and the offspring of David. We saw that right off in our
first verse, didn't we? He's of the lineage of David.
And look at this, and the bright morning star. Woo! What a Savior, beloved. And there's
a lot in these titles, isn't there? A lot in these names. Oh my, and we can take these
names and just glean comfort from all of them, can't we? Comfort
from them all. What a Savior. What a Redeemer
is Jesus Christ, our Lord. Brother Jim, do you mind closing
us in prayer?
