Galatians Study

The sermon "In Christ" by Wayne Boyd centers on the theological significance of being in union with Christ as described in Galatians 5:1. Boyd argues that being in Christ signifies salvation, freedom from sin, and a complete righteousness through Christ's atoning work. He emphasizes that believers are no longer bound to the law or its condemnation, as Christ fulfilled the law in their place, ransoming them from sin's guilt. Throughout the sermon, key scriptural references such as Galatians 5:1-6, Romans 8:1, and Colossians 1:22 are presented to reinforce the idea that believers stand justified and holy before God because of their union with Christ. The practical significance lies in the assurance of salvation and liberty from fear, condemnation, and the burden of the law, underscoring the necessity of resting in Christ for all spiritual needs.

Turn, if you would, to Galatians
chapter 5. Galatians chapter 5. The name of the message is in
Christ. In Christ. The born-again, blood-washed
believer is in Christ, and Christ is in us in the hope of glory.
These two words, in Christ, are so very, very important. Because to be in Christ is to
be saved from all our sins and have a full pardon from God.
But to be outside of Christ is to have no hope, no hope at all
for one's eternal soul. And to die in that state will
lead to the damnation of one's soul in eternity in hell. So with that in mind, let's read
Galatians chapter five, verses one to six. Galatians chapter
five, verses one to six. Stand fast, therefore, in the
liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled
again with the yoke of bondage. Behold, I, Paul, say unto you
that if you be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing. Nothing. For I testify again to every
man that is circumcised that he is indebted to do the whole
law. Christ is become of no effect unto you. Whosoever of you is
justified by the law, you are fallen from grace. For we through
the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith. For
in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth anything nor uncircumcision,
but faith which worketh by love. Faith which worketh by love.
Let my brother know to come on in. There you go. In verse one, it says, stand
fast. Stand fast, therefore, in the
liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free. And be not entangled
again with the yoke of bondage. We see here where we remain stationary.
We're not to go forward, we're not to go backward. We're to
remain stationary and to preserve. In the Greek, the Greek definition
of stand fast there is to preserve, to remain stationary. in Christ, in Christ. And then it says, in the freedom which is liberty
in the Greek, wherewith Christ hath liberated us, free in the
Greek, from the law of God by fulfilling it in the room and
place of us. And we who are the born-again,
blood-washed children of God, we are in Christ. Two so very
important words, in Christ. We're born slaves to sin when
we come into this world. We're in servitude to sin. Due to the fall of Adam, and we fell
in him. In the liberty which we enjoy
as believers, is in Christ. See, outside of Christ we're
enslaved. We're enslaved to sin, but in Christ, beloved, we're
free from sin. Because Christ paid everything
God demanded for our sins. The sinless one died for sinners. And it's nothing to do with any
merit of ours, because we have no merit before God, right? We
all know that. We've been taught that, haven't we? We have no
merit before God. And we learn that every time
the gospel is preached. We learn that we have no merit
at all. We have no righteousness. Our righteousness is like filthy
rags in the eyes of the Lord. It's nothing in his eyes. It
can't gain us favor or anything at all. But Christ Jesus wholly
obtained our salvation. fully. And He did it by the shedding
of His precious, precious blood, by living the perfect life in
our own place, and then by ransoming our eternal souls, right? Obtaining
salvation. He obtained salvation by His
death, by the shedding of His blood. He ransomed our souls
from the slave block of sin. So what God demanded for our
souls, He paid it all. by the giving of his life. And
not only did he do that for you and I when he was dying at Calvary,
but he did it for all the elect of all the ages. A one-time offering
for sin. For all the elect, a number that
no man can number. And some would say, well, how
could he do that? Because he's God in the flesh. He's the God-man. He's the word of God incarnate. And it is by the proclaiming
of the gospel of God's free grace in Christ that sinners can be
saved. That sinners can be saved in and through the Lord Jesus
Christ, right? That's what the gospel proclaims.
It's good news. We can't save ourselves, but
there's one who can save us. And that's the Lord Jesus Christ. And the Holy Spirit takes those
words that are preached in the gospel and regenerates us. And we're born again by his almighty
power. It's absolutely amazing. And
then he sends the spirit into our hearts, whereby now we cry,
Abba, Father. It's absolutely incredible. Rebels now cry, Abba, Father.
Do you know we're called the Holy Ones now? Isn't that amazing? I was thinking about that this
morning. Holy Ones. Set apart, brother, amen. Set
apart, Holy Ones. We don't feel holy, do we? But
we're called the Holy Brethren, do you know that? The Holy Brethren,
we'll look at that Lord Willem this morning. The Holy Brethren,
it's amazing. And we've been given grace and
shown mercy by our great God. The God who we saw last week
is a majestic God, the God over all, the God of the universe.
And think of this, Christ freed us from number one, our sin. Not the indwelling of it, nor
the temptation of it, but the guilt of it is gone. Guilt of
it, we're no longer guilty. Isn't that amazing? Well, how
can you say something like that? Well, who shall lay any charge
to God's elect? It is God that justifies. It's
nothing to do with me, it's nothing to do with you, but God's justified
us, hasn't he? In Christ. See, in Christ again. In Christ. And we're free from
the guilt of it, we're free from the dominion of it, and we are
free from the damning power of it too. Because Christ paid everything
for us. And in the ceremonial law, We're
free from the circumcision. We're free from the sacrifices.
We're free from the feast days. We're free from the Sabbath days.
Christ is now our Sabbath, right? He's our rest. That's rest. He's
our rest. And all the burdensome rites
and ceremonies of the law, we're free. See, Paul is contrasting
to them to stand fast in that liberty, that freedom. You're
now free from that. You're free from circumcision.
You're free from all these do, do, dos. It's done. Christ has done it all. And then
the moral law is a covenant of works from its curse and condemnation
because we know that who is ever under the law is cursed, right?
The law curses us. But Christ was made a curse for
us. He died on the cross for us in our room and place. So
now we're free from the moral law as a covenant of works, free
from its curse and condemnation, but not from its obedience. Of
course, we desire to live a holy life, don't we? Well, we can't
fulfill the law, but we still desire to live a holy life before
God. We don't desire to murder, right? We don't desire to use God's
name in vain. We don't desire to covet other
things that people have. My, oh, my. Christ has given
us a free use of the gospel ordinances. We now have full, free access
to the Father's throne in Christ. Isn't that amazing? Full, free
access to the Father's throne in Christ. We can come boldly
to the throne of grace, the scriptures now says, to find grace to help
in times of need. Do you need help? Do you need
help? I need help. I need a lot of
help. Well, we can come boldly to the
throne of grace to find grace to help in time of need. Isn't
that wonderful? That's wonderful. Oh, my. And we have also freedom from
the fear of death and from judgment after death. My, it's wonderful. Therefore, beloved, don't allow
anyone to entangle you again into any kind of workspace system.
Someone says it's Christ in this, say no, it's Christ plus nothing.
I don't need anything else, I just need Christ. It's all I need. What do we say? All that a sinner
needs is what? In Christ. Found in Christ. God says you've got to be perfect
to be in my presence. Christ is perfect. God says you must be holy to
be in my presence. Christ is our holiness. God says
you must be justified to be in my presence. Christ is our justification. God says you must be righteous
to be in my presence. Christ is our righteousness.
And we can just go on, can't we? We can just go on. He's everything. So let us live
in the proclaimed truth that we are complete in Christ. We
are. We are complete in Christ. There's
the two words again, in Christ. Outside of Christ, we're not
complete. We're dead in trespasses and sins. And the law of God held us in
bondage. It held us in bondage, beloved. It had a sentence of
death upon us. But you know what? Christ has
redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for
us. And then scripture says also,
Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone
that believe it. Do you believe on Christ? Then
he's the end of the law for righteousness. Isn't that wonderful? You see
how we could take that and just rejoice, beloved? If we believe
on Christ, then he's the end of the law for righteousness.
Oh, it's wonderful. He's the end of the law's power
to condemn us. He's the end of the law's power
to see that we're guilty. My oh my. And in the book of God's holy
law, we have no legal claim to salvation, because we're all
guilty. But in Christ, we're free. He paid the price that God demanded
for our souls. Christ satisfied all that God
demanded for the ransom of our souls. He did it all. That's
why those three words are so important. It is finished. That's
why it's so important when he said that. Because there's nothing
left that God demands. He said, this is my beloved son
in whom I'm well pleased. Are we in the son? That's the
question. Are we in Christ? Well, if we're
in Christ, then he's well pleased with us. That's just amazing,
isn't it? Yeah, if the sun shall make you
free, you shall be free indeed. Free! My! So then why should we fear? Well, it's the flesh, isn't it?
It gets the best of us. But if in Christ I'm dead to
the law, I don't have anything to fear with death. My, wherefore, my brethren, ye
also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ, that ye
should be married to another, even to him who is raised from
the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God, Romans
7, 4. We're dead to the law, beloved,
in Christ. The law has no claim on us. You know why the grave couldn't
hold Christ? because it had no claim on him.
He's sinless, dying for sinners. It had no claim on him. He couldn't
hold him. Isn't that wonderful? And God
raised him from the dead, didn't he? The sinless one. Dying, sinless,
and raised him from the grave, sinless. The God-man mediator. Two things every believer wants
above all else. We want deliverance from the
guilt, In curse of sin, we want to live in Christ, don't we?
We want to live in Christ. We desire that. And we want deliverance
from the power and practice of sin. We want to walk in the Spirit,
don't we? That's what we desire. Turn if
you would to Romans chapter 8. Romans chapter 8. Romans chapter 8. My oh my. Romans chapter 8 verse
1 it says, there is therefore now no condemnation to them which
are in Christ Jesus who walk not after the flesh but after
the spirit. Now in chapter 1 or chapter 7 Paul's been saying,
oh wretched man that I am, who can deliver me from this body
of sin? Who can deliver me from this body of sin? And look what he says in the
last part of verse seven, verse 25. I thank God through Jesus
Christ, our Lord. So then with the mind, I myself
serve the law of God, but with the flesh, the law of sin. And
then he says this, there is now, or there is therefore now no
condemnation judgment in the Greek to them which are in Christ
Jesus. Are you in Christ Jesus? And
then it says this, who walk not after the flesh, but after the
spirit. If you're in Christ, that scripture just declared
there's no judgment. No condemnation. That's what
that scripture just declared. And that's truth, isn't it? That's
truth declared, beloved. And we see ourselves, we know
our sins, but there's no condemnation. You talk about free, beloved.
We're free. We're free from the condemnation
of sin. That's what it says there. We're not, we're not condemnable. Isn't that amazing? Yeah, release
the prophets, let them go. There's still sin within us,
and that sin is condemnable, but we're not condemnable anymore.
Because we're in Christ. And if you're in Christ, There's
no more judgment, because judgment has fallen upon Christ in our
Roman place. Isn't that what a Savior, what
a Redeemer is Jesus Christ our Lord. And that's why the scripture
says sin can't bring us into condemnation because we're in
Christ. And it says Christ has redeemed us, right, from the
curse of the law, Galatians 3.13, that the curse of the law, from
the curse of the law being made a curse for us, for it is written,
curse is everyone that hangeth on a tree. So if God's judgment
extracted what it demanded from Christ, it'll never do it to
me or to you. Isn't that wonderful? What freedom
we have in Christ. We can leave here rejoicing.
And this is not assumption either, right? This is truth. There's therefore now no condemnation,
no judgment to those which are in Christ Jesus who walk not
of the flesh but after the spirit. Look at that. Christ has borne the penalty,
the judgment, and condemnation for all our sins, past, present,
and future. Again, somebody says, well, you
preach like that. Somebody say, I can just go do what I want.
Nope. Does any one of us think we can just walk out the door
and do whatever we want? Not one of us, eh? And I heard no
preacher ever say that, that I know and respect. No, we won't
do that. No, no. We love Christ. We love
Christ. Listen to this, and having made
peace through the blood of his cross, speaking of Christ, by
him to reconcile all things unto himself, by him I say, whether
they be things in earth or things in heaven, and you, that's speaking
to me, that's speaking to all believers, Paul's writing to
believers here, and you, that were sometimes alienated and
enemies in our mind by wicked works, that was me. Yet, listen
to this, now hath he reconciled. How? In the body of his flesh,
that being Christ, through death to present you holy, holy and
unblameable, holy and unblameable. Yes, that's what the scripture
declares in Colossians chapter one, verse 22, right? Holy and unblameable and unapprovable
in his sight. You can't be condemnable of it.
Oh my! Isn't this salvation wonderful
in Christ? In Christ, in Christ, in Christ. Let's go back to Romans
8.1 again. Look at this, who walk not after
the flesh but after the spirit. This is the reason why we're
not condemned. And it's a description of those who are in Christ. We
don't walk after the flesh, we walk in the spirit now. We're
born again by the Holy Spirit of God. We have a new nature
now. Now we desire the things of God
when we didn't before. And the flesh is no longer our
master. There was a time when the flesh was our master. Now who do we flee to? When our
flesh, and we all get it, we get something coming to your
mind, you're thinking, nope, nope, I don't want to do that. And we flee to Christ, right?
Now when we submit to that, temptation and sin, what's the next thing
we do? Lord, please forgive me I did
it again. See, we'll repent of them. But
now, now we can go to our elder brother and we can pray, Lord,
keep me from this. Have it pass, Lord, please. We
all struggle with sin, we're gonna be honest, we all struggle
with sin, all of us. All of us. But the flesh is not
our master, it's not our guide. Christ is our Lord and the Holy
Spirit is our guide. He leads us into all truth, doesn't
he? He leads us into all truth. Look at verse 2. For the law
of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus, there's those two words
again, in Christ, in Christ Jesus, hath made me free from what?
The law of sin and death. See, he's saying the same thing
as he's telling the Galatians, isn't he? The gospel, or the
covenant of grace, has forever freed all believers from the
law of sin and death. Isn't that wonderful? Or the covenant of works. We're
free from it. Because every requirement of
that covenant of works is met in Christ. He fulfilled it all. And He's
sinless. He's doing it for a bunch of
sinners, which we are. He's the sinless one, dying for
sinners. Look at verse 3. For what the
law could not do, what could it not do? In that it was weak
through the flesh, God sending His own Son in the likeness of
sinful flesh, and for sin condemned sin in the flesh. So what could
the law not do? It couldn't save us. It just condemns us, yeah. It's
administration of death, the scripture says. It can never
save us. It condemns us. So what the law
couldn't do? What the law couldn't save us.
So what did God do? He sends his Son. He sends the Word of
God. He sends the second person of
the Trinity. Look at this, it says, for what
the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh,
God sent in his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and
for sin, for our sin, condemned sin in the flesh, condemned it.
It's gone. That's why God says, I don't
remember your sin anymore. That's why David said, blessed
is the man whom the Lord will not impute sin. Oh my. So the weakness and inability
To save does not rise from any defect in the law of God. It's
perfect, right? Where, then, is the inability
and the weakness, then, in that the law can't save? It's in us. It's in us, because we can't
fulfill the law. The law of God is perfect. It's
holy. It shows us a holy God. It shows us a righteous God. It says, do this and live. And then it says, the soul that
sinneth, it must die. Well, we can't keep the law,
we can't save ourselves, so rejoice, beloved God. God sent his son
to save us from our sins. God sent the word of God. God
the Father sent the word of God. And only Christ can justify the
ungodly. That's what we are. That's what
scripture calls us in our natural state, the ungodly. We're called the ungodly there,
and then we're called the holy brethren. Oh my goodness, in
Christ, isn't that magnificent? The ungodly are turned into holy
brethren by the power of God. I love it, it's just magnificent.
It's magnificent, only God can do that. We can't do it, we have
no ability to do it. Oh my. Oh, he can make righteous
the chief of sinners. He did, right here, right? We
all say right here. All of us put our hands up, right?
The chief of sinners. Oh, he can make us righteous.
Oh, our representative, the son of God. Our head, he was sent,
he was sent from heaven, and he came here in the likeness
of sinful flesh, but yet without sin. Right? Conceived, he's the
seed of the woman, conceived by the Holy Spirit of God. And
in the likeness of sinful flesh, he not only obeyed the perfect
law, but he was punished for our offenses. The condemnation
of God fell upon him instead of us. In our room and place,
what a savior, what a redeemer, is Jesus Christ our Lord. My. And look at verse four, it says,
that the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us,
who walk not after the flesh, but after the spirit. The righteousness
and the law fulfilled are fully met in us. And this is the reason why Christ
came to this world, beloved. He was on a mission. And by his active and passive
obedience, all believers are justified, sanctified, made holy, and accepted in Christ
by God the Father. The ungodly are now made holy
and accepted in the Lord Jesus Christ. We were unacceptable
in our natural state, weren't we? We were, dead in trespasses
and sins. Now we're born again in the Holy
Spirit, accepted in the beloved, beloved. Isn't it wonderful?
It just gets better and better. The more we learn, the better
it gets, isn't it? We're over here with Joyce from
last Sunday, and then we come again, and we're like, man, this
is even better than I thought. It gets sweeter and sweeter,
doesn't it? I know it is for me when I'm studying. I just
get it all lit up. My, this is wonderful. It's getting
better and better. Oh, my. Christ honored the law for us.
He fulfilled the law for us in our room and place. And now,
we're still sinners, but we're perfect in God's eyes, in Christ. We can't even fathom that, can
we? But it's truth. Here we are, sinners, still sinning
to our shame, right? And now, don't we desire to be
free from sin? We desire to be home with the
Lord, don't we? Well, we're never gonna sin again. My, but here
we are still sinners, yet when God looks at us, he sees Christ,
and he sees us, remember what Paul wrote? Unblameable, unreprovable
in his sight. And that's only because we're
in Christ, clothed in his perfect righteousness. My, we're born again blood-washed
people, washed in the precious, precious blood of the Lord Jesus
Christ. washed clean in His precious
blood. For in Him, for in Him, that's
in Christ, dwelleth all the fullness of God, the Godhead bodily, and
ye, and ye are complete in Him. In Christ, complete. Everything God demands is right
there in Christ. So if we're complete, there's
nothing for us to do, right? We just look to our Savior, don't
we? We just rest, and it's hard to rest in Christ, isn't it?
Let's be honest. It's hard just to rest. All the
stuff going on in this world, it's hard for us just to rest,
isn't it? Now, we can come home after a
hard day's work, put our feet up, my sleeping chair, put my
feet up, and I can fall asleep like that. And just rest in that
chair. But it's hard to rest in Christ.
Just rest in him. Just trust in him, isn't it?
But that's what we're to do. Just like we fall asleep in our
chairs, that's our way to rest in Christ. Just rest in him.
That's called reposing. The old timers used to say reposing.
That chair is holding us up. We're resting in that chair.
Oh my, let's just rest in Christ, beloved. Because you're complete
in him, which is the head of all principality and power. He's
in control of everything. Everything. So we see then that
the liberty that Paul speaks to the Galatians of is an exemption
from all ceremonies of the law, all the observance of the law,
which was demanded by the false apostles, by the false teachers. They demanded that the Galatians
had to be circumcised and that they had to follow the law. Paul's
saying, you're exempt from all that, beloved. You're not under the law anymore. We're dead to the law, he wrote
in Romans. Dead to the law. Does the law have a claim on
a dead man? Nope. No claim at all. My, oh my. My, oh my. So let us just marvel at this
truth here set before us. We've been redeemed by the precious
blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. Let's turn to Ephesians chapter
one. we're going to go through a little bit just quickly, a
little bit of Ephesians chapter one. And we'll see the blessings
that we have in Christ here in the first fourteen verses. I
know this is one of my favorite books and one of Brother Travis'
favorite books too. It's just absolutely wonderful.
It's one of the most incredible books of the Bible. All of them
are wonderful. Look at this. Verse one, Paul,
an apostle of Jesus Christ, by the will of God, you know we're
saved by the will of God. That's why we're in Christ by
the will of God. That's just incredible. Who has
blessed us? Oh, no. Paul, an apostle of Jesus
Christ by the will of God to the saints, which are at Ephesus,
to the faithful in Christ Jesus. Beloved, you're a saint. I remember telling my mom that
I was a saint. She was a Catholic. She probably
had a kitten. And I said, oh, I'm a saint of God. Don't say
that. I said, no, the Bible says it. We're saints of God. I'm looking
at a bunch of saints. Isn't that wonderful? I mean, holy ones. Isn't that wonderful? It's amazing. That's what we're called. Faithful
in Christ. In Christ. Notice those three
words again? In Christ. Jesus. And we see,
so we see that the elect are in Christ by the Father's will,
in verse 1. And it says, Grace be to you
and peace from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who
has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places
in Christ. So we see that all the spiritual
blessings for the believer are in Christ. They're in Him. They're
not anywhere else. So in Christ we have all spiritual
blessings. Outside of Christ one has no
spiritual blessings. And Christ is the ground and
cause of our salvation. He's the ground and cause of
our salvation. It all comes about according to the free grace of
God in Christ. And Christ is fully God and fully
man. He's the only mediator between God and man. And these spiritual
blessings are more than common or temporal blessings. These
are special blessings. They're mercy and grace which
come to us through the eternal covenant. They're all things
pertaining to our justification that now we can stand in front
of God in a right standing in Christ. They also have to do
with peace with God, which only comes through Christ Jesus our
Lord. They also have to do with pardon, the pardon of all our
sins, which again is only in and through the Lord Jesus Christ. And then our adoption. We're
accepted in the beloved. See these are all special blessings.
And then our sanctification to be made holy. Again, another
special blessing. And then eternal life. We will
not perish, we're going to die physically, but spiritually we'll
be alive forever with the Lord. It'll be amazing. And in Christ,
God has purposed, decreed, and given every spiritual blessing
which heaven can bestow to the believer in Christ. Everything that God requires
for us to be in his presence is in Christ. Everything for
us to enter into heaven and enjoy the realm of heaven is in Christ. Everything. And it's been given
to us by God. Isn't that wonderful? My, then look at verse four,
according as he has chosen us in him before the foundation
of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before
him in love. So we see here, we have the joy,
the privilege of being chosen before the foundation of the
world in Christ, by God, by God. We are special recipients of
his mercy and grace. And I know we say why, but let's
not ask why. We already know. It's according
to His will. Isn't that amazing? It's amazing. There's nothing in us that we
would deserve this. It's an act of God's free and
sovereign grace. That's what it is. And it all
comes to us in Christ. And we also see that in Christ
we have the promise of being made holy and blameless. The
ungodly are now the holy brethren. I'm not gonna get over that,
I'll tell you what, that's just incredible. I know what Paul means when he
said I was a blasphemer, that was me. I was injurious to the
church of God, I know what he means. And now I'm called one of the
holy brethren? That's only a miracle of grace, isn't it? Same for
you and I, all of us. That's why we're monuments of
God's grace. Look at this, having predestinated us into the adoption
of children by Jesus Christ to himself according to the good
pleasure of his will. There's the answer to why. According
to the good pleasure of God's will. To the praise and the glory
of his grace wherein he hath made us accepted in the brotherhood.
That's what now springs out of our hearts, right? Glory be to
God. Oh, you're so wondrous. And look
at this, verse 7 and 8, in whom we have redemption through his
blood, the forgiveness of sins according to the riches of his
grace, wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence.
We have the forgiveness of all our sins. Praise God. All our
sins, all of them are forgiven. All of them are washed away in
the precious blood of Christ. All according to the riches of
God's grace. How rich is God? He's richer than anyone we could
ever know or think. He owns the cattle on a thousand
hills. Everything's his. Everything. Having made known
unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure,
which he hath purposed in himself, that in the dispensation of the
fullness of times he might gather together in one all things in
Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth, even
in him. Now we see that in Christ we have the gift of knowing the
mystery of God's will, his purpose. That was to save us in Christ.
In whom also we have obtained an inheritance being predestinated
according to the purpose of him, who worketh all things after
the counsel of his own will. Marvel, he does whatever he pleases.
And it pleased him to save us. Yes. That's incredible. That's absolutely incredible,
isn't it? Oh my. Our names are written in the
book of life before the foundation of the world. Imagine that. Oh my. And all this Christ our
Redeemer has done for the eternal praise of His glorious grace,
look at verse 12, that we should be to the praise of His glory
who first trusted in Christ. And in verse 13 and 14, in whom
also you trusted, we're trusting in Christ, aren't we? After that
you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation,
at the appointed time, the time of love, the scripture says,
we heard the shepherd's voice, in whom also after that you believed.
born again by the Holy Spirit of God. Give them faith to believe.
You were sealed. That's marked. We're already marked, beloved.
In the Greek, that means the mark. That's a, whoa, there goes
my glass. That's a marking for ownership.
God owns us, beloved. We're marked. We're marked by
God. Isn't that wonderful? Sealed
with that Holy Spirit of promise, which is the earnest of our inheritance
until the redemption of the purchased possession into the praise of
his glory. So we see that in Christ, we
have the blessed Holy Spirit in our hearts. He sent him as
our comforter. We're born again. We've given
faith to believe, and he's in our hearts as a seal and guarantee
of our salvation. A seal and guarantee of our salvation.
He's the earnest. of our inheritance. So we've seen today that the
liberty and freedom from our sins, from God's law and from
the curse of our sins, comes in and through our glorious Savior,
the Lord Jesus Christ. And Paul writes then, stand fast,
therefore, in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and
be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. And what do
we say? Amen. Amen. Brother Travis, can
you close us over?
