Okay. Turn, if you would, to
Psalm 70. This morning, we'll be looking
in Psalm 70. The name of the message is, Let
God Be Magnified. Let God Be Magnified. Psalm 70.
Psalm 70. to the chief musician of Psalm
of David to bring to remembrance. Make haste, O God. Deliver me. Make haste to help me, O Lord.
Let them be ashamed and confounded that seek after my soul. Let
them be turned backward and put to confusion that desire my hurt.
Let them be turned back for reward of their shame that say, aha,
aha. Let all those that seek, and
this is our text right here, verse 4, let all those that seek
Thee rejoice and be glad in Thee. Let all those that seek Thee
rejoice and be glad in Thee. And let such as love Thy salvation
continually, and let such as love Thy salvation, say continually,
let God be magnified. And let such as love Thy salvation,
say continually, let God be magnified. But I am poor and needy. Make
haste unto Me. O God, Thou art my help and my
deliverer. O Lord, make no tarrying. Let God be magnified. And look
it also, it says, let such as love Thy salvation say continually. So God's people say continually. And this is in the sense of we
all day, just in our day, it's not something we do every second. But God's praises are in our
hearts for what He's done for us, for how He's rescued us,
for how He's delivered us, and how He continues to take care
of us. And look at verse 5, but I am
poor and needy. That's a sinner. I'm poor. I'm a sinner. I'm poor and I'm
needy. I need Christ desperately. Make haste unto me, O Lord, please. Oh God, Thou art my help, always. And look, and deliver it. He
always delivers His people. Oh Lord, make no tarry. And remember,
He may not deliver us on our timing, but He'll always deliver
us in His timing. Oh, what a great God and King
we have. So let's look at verse 4 again. Let all those that seek
Thee rejoice, and remember this also, we don't seek Him naturally,
do we? We're made willing. We're made
well in the day of God's power. Let all those that seek thee
rejoice, and God's people rejoice. And be glad in thee. And let
such as love thy salvation say continually, let God be magnified. Let him be magnified. Our hope is that the gospel go
forth from here, right? And that God would be magnified.
That he'd be lifted up high and mighty. We want less of ourselves. John the Baptist said he must
increase and I must decrease. God must be magnified. And He
is in the preaching of the Gospel. He is in the preaching of the
Lord Jesus Christ. And every believer can identify
with what David proclaims here in this verse. Let all those
that seek Thee rejoice and be glad in Thee. So you who seek
the Lord, are you glad in Him? Of course we are, right? Of course
we are. And let such as love Thy salvation.
There was a time when we didn't love His salvation. but praise
God by a miracle of grace, by the regenerating power of the
Holy Spirit of God. We love thy salvation. We love the salvation of the
Lord, which is in Christ Jesus and Him alone. We love Christ.
And we say continually, let God be magnified. When we ponder
the mighty salvation, when we ponder, and really just ponder
the mighty salvation, and it's, beloved, it's a mighty salvation.
It took us out of a pit. It's a mighty salvation that
we have in Christ. When we ponder that, when we
ponder that God Almighty has mercy on sinners, He has mercy
on sinners, it makes us cry out and rejoice in the Lord. It makes
us cry out and we rejoice in the Lord Jesus Christ, who's
our Redeemer and our Savior. And we say in our hearts, don't
we say in our hearts, let God be magnified. Oh, praise his
mighty name. Praise his mighty name. And this
salvation spoken of in our text, it's being given to us. We're
recipients, we who believe. It's a gift of God. And it's
in and through the Lord Jesus Christ. It's not anything we
do. It's all in and through Him. All in and through Him. And then,
like I say, look at the verse 5. But I am poor and needy. We're
poor and needy sinners. And think of this. It says salvation
in the verse before that. Poor and needy sinners have what?
Full forgiveness. Full salvation. In and through
the Lord Jesus Christ. And again, we say, praise his
mighty name. We can't save ourselves, but
he saved me. He saved me. Let him be magnified. Let him be glorified. That's
why we say constantly, we want him to get all the glory. and
all the honor and all the praise. Let him be magnified. Let God
be magnified for the great things that he hath done and the great
things that he continues to do. He continues to do. Something
I want to mention. I've been seeing folks, and I've
been seeing some folks, not anyone who comes to church here, but
I saw some folks who profess to believe in sovereignty, and
they are literally freaking out over this election. Like, I mean
literally freaking out. Saying it's the end of America,
it's the end of all this. Well, let me tell you something.
I was talking to Vicki about this. My God has not left his
throne. And the day after the election,
my God will still be upon this throne. And however long the
Lord tarries, He'll still be on the throne. And when we all
get to eternity, He'll still be on the throne. Let God be
magnified. Let God be magnified. He's our
King. And His will will come to pass
whether or not We freak out about it a lot. Let us rest. Let us rest. Let us be aware
of things, but let us not be. Let God be magnified. Let Him
be magnified. So back to our text. We're poor
and needy sinners, and we have full forgiveness in and through
the Lord Jesus Christ. And we give Him all the praise
and all the glory. Think of this. This is not just
a pardon, beloved. This is an abundant pardon. Not
just my sins forgiven, but yours too, who believe. And not just
yours and my sins forgiven, but all the elect of all the ages.
This is an abundant pardon. We can't measure it, beloved.
We can't measure it. And this is also abundant forgiveness. Not just my sins forgiven, not
just your sins forgiven who believe, but the sins of all the elect
of all the ages. This is abundant. Abundant pardon,
abundant forgiveness, and beloved, is it not abundant mercy? That
he not only has mercy on you and on me, but all the elect
of all the ages. Oh, let God be magnified, beloved. Let him be lifted up May our
lips just abound with praise in our mighty, all-sufficient
Savior. Now everyone is in need of salvation,
aren't they? Everyone in this world. They're
in need of salvation. But very few have an interest
in Christ. Very few. And we can't even boast
in our interest in Christ. Because the only ones who made
us to differ is God. See, that's again, let God be
magnified. Once again, let Him be magnified.
Now the warning in scripture is how shall we escape if we
neglect so salvation? And we won't unless we're in
Christ. So why do God's people love the
salvation of the Lord? Why do they say let God be magnified
continually? Let's look at some scriptural
reasons. We love God, God's salvation, because of the experience in
our heart, right? We've experienced this salvation.
We who believe, we've experienced it. Others have not. But the
believers experience. And I've mentioned oftentimes
that I can't tell you about something that I don't know about, right?
Just like I can't tell you about a place. I couldn't tell you
about my hometown unless I lived there. I can't tell you about
Oregon unless I've been there. So I can't tell you about anything
unless I've visited there or experienced it. Now John 3 says
this, our Lord Jesus Christ in talking to Nicodemus about the
new birth said this, John 3.11, Verily, verily, I say unto thee,
we speak that we do know. We speak that we do know and
testify what we have seen and you receive not our witness.
We speak that we do know. Gospel preachers speak what we
know. God's saints speak what you know. Let God be magnified. Let Him be praised. He saved
my soul. I could never save myself. Matthew Poole says about the
verse in John 3.11, he says this, Herein our Saviour lets His ministers
know what is their duty to teach unto people, what they know and
what they've seen, what they know, and what they see. I'm
not here to tell you about history and all that, although sometimes
I might bring it in. You know, we might talk a little bit. But
I'm here to preach what I know. And I know my Redeemer saved
my soul. And I know He can save all who come to Him. Oh, my. He's a mighty Savior. He's a
mighty Savior. He's a wonderful Savior. Let's
look at our text again. Let all those that seek Thee
rejoice and be glad in Thee, and let such as love Thy salvation
say continually, Let God be magnified. The salvation spoken of in our
text is not only a perfect work accomplished for us at Calvary,
right? It's an absolute perfect work with His justifying blood
atonement, but it's also a work of God the Holy Spirit. make
an application to the sinner's heart, regenerating us. We become
born again. Oh my. Salvation that is revealed
in the scripture is an experience of the grace of God revealing
Christ to the heart. He reveals to us what Christ
has done for us. And we run to Him. There ain't no holding back. There's no man going, well, I
think that maybe I'll exercise my supposed imaginary free will. But no, no. When God makes a
sheep willing, beloved, he runs. He runs to Christ. He runs to
Christ. Now, we have a will, too. Let's
hit that for a minute. We have a will. But it's bound
to our nature, beloved. And if you have a dead nature,
your will's bound to a dead nature. It's dead. A.W. Pink says we're more alive in
Christ when we're born again. Then we start to exercise choices
and things because we have a new nature now. A new nature not
governed by the old nature which was dead in trespasses and sins. We're born again in the Holy
Spirit of God. Salvation that is revealed again in the Scripture
is an experience of the grace of God revealing Christ to the
heart. Philippians 1.6 says this, being confident of this very
thing, that He which hath begun a good work in you... So what? God begins a work in His people,
right? Now does He just stop there and leave it up to man?
No. No. He which hath begun a good work
in you... We'll perform it until the day
of Jesus Christ. Oh, beloved. As our Lord told
Nicodemus, you must be born again, and this is a work of God, right?
He's the author. God, the Holy Spirit. This is
a work of God. You must be born again, and a
believer. And they flee to Jesus Christ, our Lord, and then they're
kept by the power of God. They're kept by the power of
God. So let's read our text again. So again, why do God's people
love the salvation of the Lord? Why do we say, let God be magnified? We love God's salvation because
of the method of it. The method of it. Turn, if you
would, to 1 Peter 3.18. 1 Peter 3.18. Oh, the method of salvation. It was devised and planned and
executed by God Almighty. He planned and purposed it. He
executed it. And He is the One right now.
He is the One who saves His people, drawing them to Christ. It's
all His work. It's all His work. Who had believed
our report? The preachers just proclaiming
a report of what He's done for us. This salvation spoken of,
look at 1 Peter 3.18, For Christ also hath once suffered for sins,
the just, the perfect, spotless Lamb of God. For the unjust,
sinners, that's us, sinners, unjust. Why? That He might bring
us to God. Being put to death in the flesh,
He died on Calvary's cross as our substitute, but quickened
by the Spirit. Oh, beloved, this is free grace.
Free grace, free grace, free grace. This is what it is. It was executed and obtained
through the substitutionary sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ on Calvary's
cross. who satisfied all the demands
of God's justice and supplied every need for the guilty sinner.
Philippians says this, but my God shall supply all your need. And He has in Christ. Beloved,
He has in Christ. According to what? According
to His riches. In glory by Christ Jesus. It comes in and through the Lord
Jesus Christ in Him alone. Nowhere else. Nowhere else is
the sinner's needs fulfilled but through Christ. Only in Him. Only in Him. All the sinner's
needs are met in Christ Jesus our Lord. Now is it any wonder
when we ponder this, when we when we just sit and think about
this wonderful, magnificent salvation that we have in Christ. Is it
any wonder that we say with the psalmist, let God be magnified.
Let Him be magnified. Let Him be glorified. Oh my,
what a King. Again, let's read our text. Let
all those that seek Thee rejoice and be glad in Thee, and let
such as love Thy salvation say continually, let God be magnified.
So again, why do God's people love the salvation of the Lord,
and why do we continually say, let God be magnified? Turn, if
you would, to Romans 4.16. We love God's salvation because
of the sureness of it, beloved. The sureness of this salvation. Now, if it was based upon us
and what we do, there'd be no sureness in our salvation, would
there? None at all. None at all. As Spurgeon said,
we'd lose our salvation a thousand times a day if it was up to us. Because we're such sinners. I
know I am. Oh my. Look at this in Romans 4.16.
Therefore it is of faith that it might be by grace to the end
the promise might be sure to all the seed. Sure to all the
seed. There's one of those little hinge
words. Not to that only which is of the law, but to that also
which is of faith of Abraham who is the father of us all.
Beloved, there's only one true refuge. There's only one true
refuge from the wrath and justice of God. There's only one. There's only one sure and able
Savior to save us from our sins, and that is the Lord Jesus Christ. We trust Him with our eternal
welfare, the eternal welfare of our souls, and He is all our
righteousness, He is all our redemption, and He is all our
salvation. Trust in Him at all times, ye
people. Pour out your heart before Him. God is a refuge for us. Psalm 62, 8. He guarantees and
gives life to all those who believe on His name. Turn, if you would,
to Isaiah 22, and then I'll read this verse in John 3, 16, which
ties in with how He guarantees and gives life to all those who
believe on His name. But turn to Isaiah 22, 23. John 3.36 says this, He that
believeth on the Son hath everlasting life. There's the clause, right?
So not everyone goes to heaven, like people claim when people
die. Oh, they're in heaven. But they didn't believe on Christ,
but they still, in religion, no one goes to hell. But scripture
declares, He that believeth on the Son hath. Do you believe
on the Son? He hath everlasting life. Praise
be to God. What a gift. Oh, let God be magnified. And he that believeth not the
Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abideth on him.
John 3, 36. But look at the sureness in Isaiah 22, verse 23. And think
of this as the sureness of our salvation. And this nail spoken
of is Christ. I was looking at the commentators.
They all say this. And I will fasten Him as a nail in a sure
place. There He is. He's a nail in a sure place.
You can hang the welfare of your eternal soul upon Him. Oh, beloved. He's a nail in a sure place.
And I will fasten Him as a nail in a sure place and He shall
be for a glorious throne to His Father's house. So we say, let
God be magnified. as we ponder the sureness of
salvation in Christ Jesus alone. Oh my, what a sureness. Christ is a strong, able Savior
of His people. And God's people say, let Him
be magnified. Let God be magnified. Oh my. Psalm 70, verse 4, again. Let
all those that seek Thee and rejoice and be glad in Thee,
and let such as love Thy salvation say continually, Let God be magnified. Now we know that those who don't
love God's salvation don't say this, do they? But what's another reason why
God's people love the salvation of the Lord? And why we say,
let God be magnified? We love God's salvation because
of the completeness of it. Turn, if you would, to Colossians
chapter 2. Now we looked at these two verses in our Wednesday night
studies. I'm not going to go too deep
in this today, but look at how wonderful this is. If you're
in Christ, you're complete in Him. You're complete in Him.
Look at this. This is marvelous. We love God's
salvation because of the completeness of it. Look at this. For in Him,
being Christ, dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.
Colossians 2, verse 9. For in Him dwelleth all the fullness
of the Godhead bodily. Look at verse 10. Oh, beloved. Now, what was happening
was the false teachers were saying, you've got to keep these traditions.
You've got to be circumcised to be saved. They were bringing
in all these things you had to do, right? So Paul's combating
all that. And the whole epistle so far
that we've looked at with Colossians is magnifying the all-sufficiency
of Christ and his supremacy. And look at what Paul says in
light of the contrast of what the false teachers are saying,
that you've got to do this and you've got to do that to be saved.
And look at what Paul writes. And this is by inspiration of
the Holy Spirit of God. And ye are complete in Him. All that, remember, all that
a sinner needs is where? In Christ. In Christ. And look at this. He's not only
the head of the church. And see, this gets back to what
I was saying about people freaking out. Look at this. Which is the
head of all principality and power. He's sovereign king. My Lord is not abdicated as throne
and He never will. Everything is happening according
to His plan and purpose, beloved. According to His plan and purpose.
And so let us think on this. The salvation we have in Christ
Jesus is complete. And it's perfect. It's perfect
because He's perfect. He's a perfect Savior. He has
a perfect redemption. We have a perfect Savior and
a perfect salvation. And the scripture there in Colossians
declares we are absolutely complete in Him. Oh, it brings joy. Let God be magnified. Doesn't
it bring praise to your lips? Oh, boy. So God's salvation is
not waiting upon the sinner to add something to make it complete
or effectual. Do you see that too? Do you see how that battles
all that works-based stuff? No. The believer is complete
in Christ. We're complete in Him. Oh my. Only that which God provided
will be accepted. Genesis 22.8 says this, And Abraham
said, My son, God will provide himself. himself. That which is provided
and accepted, that which will please God is only the Lord Jesus
Christ. And Abraham said, my son, God
will provide himself a lamb, and he did on Calvary's cross. For a burnt offering, so they
went both of them together. Why do we love the salvation
of the Lord? Why do we say continually let God be magnified? Beloved,
because sin is put away. Sin is put away. Hebrews 9.26,
For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world,
but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put
away sin by the sacrifice of himself." We're complete in Him. The completeness of the salvation.
Why do we love the salvation of the Lord continually? Why
do we say, let God be magnified? Because redemption is accomplished
as well. Hebrews 9.12, neither by the blood of goats are cast,
but by his own blood. There's the prize. By his own
blood. He entered in once into the holy
place, heaven. I love this. I love this. This
verse, Hebrews 9.12. Having obtained eternal redemption
for us. He obtained it. See, He's a successful
Savior. Do you see the completeness of
the salvation? This is why we praise His name.
Because we're complete in Him. Nothing for us to do. We receive
the grace of God in Christ. We're just recipients of this
wonderful gift. This wonderful gift. Why do we
love the salvation, Lord? Why do we say let God be magnified?
Because righteousness is established, beloved. Turn if you would to
Philippians chapter 3. Righteousness is established. Oh my. Righteousness is established. Look at Philippians 3, verse
7-9. But what things were gained to
me, those I counted lost for Christ. Now remember, Paul had
a lot of influence. He was wealthy. He was a Pharisee
of Pharisees. He was looked up to. But what things were gained to
me, those I counted for loss. Yea, doubtless, and I count all
things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus
my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do
count them but done, that I may win Christ and be found in Him,"
look at this, "...not having my own righteousness." Oh, beloved,
righteousness is being established which is of the law, but that
which is through the faith of Jesus Christ, the righteousness
which is of God, by faith. Oh, what completeness we have
in this salvation. Why do we love the salvation
of the Lord? Turn to 2 Corinthians 5, verses
18-20. Why do we love the salvation
of the Lord and say continually again, let God be magnified?
Because reconciliation, now think of this, we were enemies in our
minds, right? By wicked works, Colossians says. Enemies. By the things that we
did, by our sins. But beloved, in Christ we've
been reconciled to God. Look at this, 2 Corinthians 5,
verses 18-20. And all things are of God who
hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ. Now he's the
offended part of God. Note what our text just said
there. And all things are of God who hath reconciled us to
himself. Oh, my beloved. By Jesus Christ
and has given to us the ministry of reconciliation. You see, He
did it. He reconciled us. The Lord Jesus
Christ reconciled us to God. Oh, to wit that God was in Christ
reconciling the world unto Himself, not imputing their trespasses
unto them, and that He committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then, we as ambassadors for
Christ, as though God did besiege you by us, we pray you in Christ's
deed, be ye reconciled to God. Oh my. Is it any wonder when
we ponder that all our sins are put away, that redemption is
accomplished, that we are clothed in the righteousness of Christ,
that we're reconciled to God. Is it any wonder that we say,
let God be magnified? Let Him be magnified. Oh my. Let's look at our verse one more
time for our last point. Let all those that seek Thee
and be glad in Thee, and let such as love Thy salvation say
continually, Let God be magnified. Turn, if you would, to 1 John
5 and then put your finger in Romans 1. 1 John 5 and Romans 1. Why do God's people, the last
point, why do God's people love the salvation of the Lord? And
why do we magnify our great King? We love God, God's salvation,
because of the person of it. Because of the person of it.
Because of the one who redeemed our souls. The one who redeemed
our souls. Remember, we're poor and needy.
I'm poor and needy. Make haste unto me, O God. Thou
art my help and my deliverer. O Lord, make no tarry. Oh, look at 1 John 5, verses
10-12. He that believeth on the Son
of God hath the witness in himself. He that believeth not God hath
made him a liar. because he believed not the record
that God gave of his Son. And this is the record that God
hath given to us, eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Oh, our Lord Jesus Christ. He's
the one who purchased us. He's the one. He's the one who
bore all that wrath in our place. And that satisfied the justice
of God. And then look what it says. He
that hath the Son hath life. Do you have the Son? Do you have the Son? He that
hath the Son hath life. And he that hath not the Son
of God hath not life. And in turn, Romans 1. Jesus
Christ is the sum and substance and subject matter of the Gospel. These folks that get up and just
pop off about whatever they think and try to tell you to live a
better Christian life, there's no help. No, it just yokes you
up even more. But the preaching of Christ to
sinners. There's hope for a sinner in Christ, isn't there? There's
hope for a sinner in Christ. He's the sum and substance. He's
the sum and substance and the subject matter of the Gospel.
Look at Romans 1, verses 1-3, but we'll read the 7. Look at
this. Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ. Ting! He's already hitting it
right away, right? Getting their eyes right on Christ, right away,
like a musical tuning fork. Called to be an apostle, separated
unto the gospel of God, which he had promised afore by his
prophets in the Holy Scriptures. Now, what is the gospel of God
concerning? Look at verse 3. Concerning his
Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord. Our Lord. He's already Lord,
isn't He? We don't make Him Lord. He is
Lord. which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh,
and declared to be the Son of God with power." He's got all
power, beloved. He has it all. "...according
to the spirit of holiness by the resurrection from the dead,
by whom we have received grace and apostleship for obedience
to the faith among all nations for his name, among whom are
ye also the call of Jesus Christ." To all that be in Rome, beloved
of God, called to be saints, grace to you and peace from God
our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Look at verse 3. The sum and substance and subject
matter of the gospel concerning his son Jesus Christ our Lord. That is the sum, the substance,
and the message of the gospel. Christ crucified. The Lord Jesus
Christ. And to the believer, he's altogether
loved. He's altogether lovely. His mouth
is most sweet, yea, He is altogether lovely. This is my beloved, the
Lord Jesus Christ. This is my beloved. This is my
friend, O daughters of Jerusalem. Salvation's not in the profession. It's not in a place nor a position,
but rather salvation is in a person. It's in a person, beloved. Our
hope is the Lord Jesus Christ. It is the Lord Jesus Christ who
saves and Him alone. It was the Lord Jesus Christ
who bore our sins upon the tree. It was the Lord Jesus Christ
who came into this world to redeem His people from their sins. The
Lord Jesus Christ, indeed, did come into this world to do a
work. A work that His Father had given Him to do on behalf
of His people. And He came to fulfill the law
and the prophets and to make an end of sin and to bring in
everlasting righteousness. And He is the Lamb of God. Emmanuel. God with us. He was the sinless
man who lived the perfect life and offered himself, offered
himself, beloved, as a sacrifice for sin, for my sin. And if you're
a believer, for your sin. And for the sin of all the elect,
of all the ages. And by that one sacrifice, by
that one sacrifice, sin was put away once for all. And by that
one sacrifice, He redeemed His people from all their sins. And
by that one sacrifice, He sanctified His people. And it was He, it
was Christ who cried, it is finished. Oh, my beloved. Surely anyone who does not love
this salvation must be a lover of self. Surely, if anyone who
does not love this Savior must be a lover of self and a hater
of the God of all grace. Surely those who love God's salvation
say with David, Oh, let God be magnified. Let Him be magnified. Gracious Heavenly Father, oh,
we who are saved and redeemed by the precious blood of the
Lord Jesus Christ. Oh, we cry. Oh, let you be magnified,
Lord. May you be magnified and glorified. May you be lifted up high and
mighty. I pray you be with the preaching and with the singing
today and that it might bring you glory and honor. In Jesus'
name, amen.
