For in Him, that being Christ,
dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. For in Him
dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. So last week
we looked at verse 8, and we saw that a warning was sounded
out by Paul, remember? Beware. Beware. Sounded out by
Paul to beware of the false teachers who spoil you Which is carry
you away, you remember? Carry you away like when an invader
invades a town and they carry away people and they carry away
livestock. It's their spoil. That they,
through their lies, be careful, be aware, lest any man spoil
you through philosophy and vain deceit. And after the tradition
of men, and after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. We, just as the cautioned believers,
need to be aware of false teachers who creep in. seeking to make
spoil, again, which is seeking to take you captive with their
false teachings. And they do this again, as the
text says, through philosophy and vain deceit, which is empty
lies, we looked at, after the traditions of men, and after
the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. And we looked
at how the traditions of men there, being practices and rites
which have no warrant, no warrant from the Word of God, but they
are customs and traditions of men, that being infant baptism,
the Catholic Mass, practices and rites which have
no warrant from this Word. If they don't have any warrant
from this Word, we don't want to hear them. Not at all. Not at all. Purgatory, prayers
for the dead are examples of this. It just goes on and on
and on. And then we look at the rudiments
of the world, which were, most commentators said were the mosaic
rites and ceremonies. Circumcision, abstaining from
certain meats. The Sabbatarians, people who
believe you should worship on Saturdays, Seventh Day of Venice
are an example of that. The Worldwide Church of God used
to be like that. There's many sects and many cults out there
that believe in that way. And they also just set forth
so many other things. There's even a movement out there
that are having people go back to Jewish rites who aren't even
Jewish and going under the law. It's ridiculous what freedom
we have in Christ. They don't know the Gospel and
they don't know the God of the Bible, obviously, or they would
never If they did, they wouldn't allow that to happen. Now the way of Christ will not
mix with man's philosophy. The way of Christ will not mix
with man's traditions. And the way of Christ will not
mix with legal obedience. As Christ is all for the believer
in salvation and in redemption and in our lives. He's everything. And we've seen that, haven't
we? We've seen that in the last few verses. Where Paul tells
us, how do we walk? By faith. The same way. How do
we walk and live in our lives? By faith. The same way as we
receive Christ, we walk in Him. We walk in Him. So let's look
at our text tonight which is found in verse 9. For in Him
dwelleth the fullness of the Godhead bodily. For in Him dwelleth
all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. Our text starts, For
in Him. All the fullness of God dwells
in Christ. In Christ. And this is tied in
from the last verse, and not after Christ. See there? For in Him, the thought is continuing. For in Him, being Christ. In Christ, all the fullness of
God dwells. All the treasures and all the
wealth and all the wisdom and all the glory of God is wrapped
up in Christ. It's all in Him. That's why we
always pray, Lord, You get all the glory. You get all the honor. You get all the praise. Because
He's worthy. He's worthy. He's worthy to be
praised. Turn, if you would, to Philippians
chapter 2. For in Him, that is in the man Christ Jesus. In Him
and nowhere else. All the fullness of the Godhead
dwells bodily. Nowhere else, beloved. Nowhere
else. People try to make co-redeemers.
They say, the Catholics are famous for that, right? Mary's a co-redeemer. It's just lies. Lies. There's no co-redeemer.
Not at all. Only Christ. There's one redeemer. There's one meat-eater between
God and man. And that is the man, Christ Jesus.
Because in Him, all the fullness of the Godhead dwells bodily.
In Him. Nowhere else. Nowhere else. Look at Philippians
2, verses 5-8. Let this mind be in you, which
was also in Christ Jesus, who being in the form of God, thought
it not robbery to be equal with God. But made himself of no reputation. Beloved, think of the condescension
of Christ. He left the glories and splendors
of heaven and became a man. And we're going
to look at that hypostatic union that we've mentioned and talked
about before. The divine nature and the human nature intertwined.
Think of this. God himself. The Word of God,
right? The Word of God. John 1. We'll
look at that later, too. In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The Word of
God. Christ Jesus became a man, but
made himself of no reputation and took upon him the form of
a servant and was made in the likeness of man. In being found
in fashion as a man, he humbled himself He, think of that, He left heaven. Angels, holy angels falling down
before Him. Praising Him. We've seen Isaiah
6. Holy, holy, holy. Covering themselves
in the presence of our King. And He leaves that and becomes
a man. And we know why. He came to save
His people from their sins. We know why. This is what he
did. Look at what scripture says.
And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself and
became obedient unto death. Now think of this. I was reading
a commentator on this. It was marvelous. I think it
was Hawker that was bringing this out. Not only did he become
obedient all through his life, he became obedient to the death. To die in our room instead. To
die for sinners. Because the law of God demanded
it. And He, by imputation, took our
sins upon Him and died in our place. And that wrath and that
justice, which was due every one of us who believed, fell
upon Him. My goodness. What a Redeemer! What a Savior is Jesus Christ,
my Lord. He's amazing. Became obedient
unto death, even the death of the cross. Think of this. In Him who spoke the universe
into existence. Right? Look at what our text
says again. For in Him dwelt all the fullness
of the Godhead bodily. And we know this is Christ. The
one who spoke the universe into existence. The one who said,
let there be light. And what happened? There was
light. The one who created all that we see simply by the word
of His power. In Christ. In Him alone. All
the fullness of the Godhead dwells in us. The Word became flesh
and dwelt among us. In order for you to be redeemed,
sister, our God became a man. It's amazing grace. It's incredible. It's simply amazing. Paul is showing the Colossian
believers by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit that nothing,
absolutely nothing needs to be added to Christ. Nothing at all. Nothing. He is the perfect man. He's the
perfect substitute. All those lambs in the Old Testament
were pointing to the perfect One. Behold the Lamb of God. Christ. Christ Jesus our Lord. And He is the perfect surety
and He is the perfect Savior for sinners. He's the perfect man. And He's my God. Is He yours? Oh, rejoice with me if He is. What a God. What a Savior. He's the God-man meat-eater.
Now think of this. Additions, right? Think of this.
When you add something to something, right? It's not complete, is
it? It's not full, right? It's not
complete. Additions are needed to supply
some defect or imperfection. But Christ, beloved, is perfect. Nothing needs to be added to
Him. He's perfect. Do you see what workspace religion
is doing? It's saying He's not complete.
It's saying that He's not a perfect Savior. It's saying there's something
that you can do. My Savior is perfect. My Savior's
atonement is perfect. My Savior's a perfect Redeemer.
He's a perfect Savior. And He saves His people from
their sins. And He did it. He saved you,
brother. Oh, my. He's perfect. Nothing needs to
be added to His work. Nothing at all. Nothing at all. We're the opposite of what He
is, aren't we? We're sinners who can't save
ourselves. Imperfect. mired by the fall,
dead in trespasses and sins, and the Word becomes flesh to
save His people from their sins. What a great God. What a great
God. We who are imperfect, sinners
by birth, nature, and choice, and He who is absolutely perfect,
And beloved, always remember, nothing needs to be added to
Him or His work. Absolutely nothing. We are saved
by His grace. We are saved by His mercy. We
are saved by the redemption that's in Him. And He is perfect. Perfect. Oh, what a Savior. Back to our text, it says, For
in Him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. God manifest
in the flesh. God dwelling in the flesh in
all the fullness of the Godhead dwelling in Him bodily. Paul,
speaking of the Godhead dwelling in Christ, speaks of a oneness,
of a union of God and man in one person so that the human
nature of Christ is filled with the divine nature and both are
united in such a way that they cannot be divided. He's fully man and yet fully
God. One and the same person. What a glorious truth. He's the
perfect, spotless, sinless Lamb of God. This is the God of the
Bible. He's perfect. Nothing needs to
be added to him. Do you see again the fallacy
of these false teachers? Do you even see the fallacy of
someone saying to you, well, you have to make a decision in
order to be saved. When was I redeemed? 2,000 years
ago. I didn't know that. Not until
the Holy Spirit regenerated me and revealed Christ to me through
the preaching of the gospel, and I was made willing and fled
to Christ, but my sins were bought and paid for on Calvary's cross.
Isn't it marvelous? Isn't it wonderful? What a great
God. This is why we preach with confidence
in the sense knowing that God, like Brother Henry says, we preach
with confidence that God will save his sheep. And the confidence
isn't in us. It ain't in the preacher. A lot
of times we step out of the pulpit feeling like we just fell on
our face. It's in Christ. It's in the Gospel.
It's in the Holy Spirit making it effectual. As Brother Tim
prayed, we pray and hope that every time the Gospel's proclaimed
that God would use it either to build his saints up or to
save lost sheep. And we don't have to know what
he's doing. That's his work. We don't do gun belt stuff. Oh,
got another one. No, we don't do that. Because
we don't get them, do we? We preach the gospel. God does
the saving. He does the saving. It's all
in Him. So again, our verse says, For
in Him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. So in
Christ. Now let's look at the latter part of this verse. We'll
break it down in different sections. Dwelleth all the fullness of
the Godhead bodily. In Christ dwelleth all the fullness
of the Godhead bodily. Not for a moment. and then gone,
no. No, beloved. In Christ dwelleth
all the fullness of the Godhead bodily, period. Strong's defines
the Greek word for dwelleth as this, to house permanently. That is to reside, literally
or figuratively, dwell in habit. It is in Christ, in him, Turn,
if you would, to Hebrews chapter 1, and we'll look at verse 3.
We saw this in verse 15 of chapter 1, and I'll read this. Who is
the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature,
speaking of Christ. And remember, we looked at that,
that He's the express image of God. Do you remember He said,
if you've seen me, you've seen the Father. Look at Hebrews chapter
1, verse 3. In Christ in Him alone is the
express image of God. who being the brightness of His
glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all
things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself..." Look
at this, beloved. "...purged our sins." If you're a believer in Christ, He's purged your sins. This is
wonderful news for sinners. Wonderful news for sinners. And
what, after he did that, where is he? Sat down on the right
hand of the Majesty on High. Now remember in the temple, when
the priests were in the temple, there was no chair. Because their
work was never done. Our King's work is done. And
he said, it is finished. Perfect. It's perfect. There's nothing to be added to
it. Nothing by puny humans like us. Nothing, nothing at all. It's complete. It's finished.
Finished means? It's finished. It's done. And we're going to see later,
fullness means you can't put anything else in it. Oh, Jesus Christ is the brightness
of God's glory and the express image of His person. He, the
Lord Jesus Christ, upholds all things, all things, by the word
of His power. The Lord Jesus Christ, let us
always remember this too. He upholds all things by the
word of His power, and He is the same yesterday, today, and
forever. He doesn't change. He doesn't
change. God does not change. And what a contrast. Think of
this now. Think of this in contrast to the false teachers who had
come in and crept in and said to the Colossian believers, well,
it's by our secret knowledge that you can gain a deeper understanding
of God. Or it's by these traditions.
You have to do this, and you have to do that. You have to
be circumcised, or you have to do this, or you have to do that.
All these things were adding. to the one who's perfect. You see, so it's not a gospel,
is it? As Paul says in Galatians, it's
not the gospel. The gospel of God's free grace
is Jesus Christ and what he's done, plus absolutely nothing.
You know, we're just receivers of the grace of God. We're just receivers. Think of
this. The Holy Spirit regenerates us.
He makes us willing. He gives us the gift of faith.
He gives us the gift of repentance. He turns us to Christ. He's active. We're passive. We receive. Now, do we run to
Christ? Absolutely. After he's made us willing. It's
all a gift of God, beloved. It's all a gift of God. It's all a gift of God. So what
a contrast to what the false teachers were teaching, that
you needed to add traditions or ceremonies or have special
knowledge, which only they could give, of course, to know Christ
in a deeper way. But, beloved, let me tell you
this. If you have Christ, You have all that a sinner needs.
You don't need nothing else. Nothing. Do you know we're more rich than
the richest person in this world? Because we're rich in Christ. It's wonderful. Turn, if you
would, to 2 Chronicles, Chapter 6. 2 Chronicles, Chapter 6. Now, let us remember this, that
Christ was God in eternity past, right? As the Word. And He was with God, and He was
God. And also, He was God incarnate
in the flesh, right? So He was God when He was here
upon earth. And all the fullness of the Godhead dwelt bodily in
Him. And He is God right now, beloved.
And He is seated at the right hand of the Father in majesty
on high. And He will be there for eternity.
So in Christ, our text tells us, all the fullness of the Godhead
dwells bodily. Now the Scriptures proclaim,
right? The Scriptures proclaim that the heavens cannot contain
Him. That's what the Scriptures proclaim, that the heavens cannot
contain Him. Look at 2 Chronicles 6, verse
17 and 18. Now then, O Lord God of Israel,
let thy word be verified which thou hast spoken unto thy servant
David, But will God in very deed dwell with man on the earth?
Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee,
how much less this house which I have built." Okay. Turn to John, chapter 2. Now,
Robert Hawker brought something out that I had never seen. He said that verse in 2nd Chronicles
there, about the temple, he said that's typified Christ. He said
this typified Christ. So then I'll read our verse tonight,
okay? And then we'll read a passage in John. It says, for in Him
dwelt, being Christ, dwelt all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.
Now, Hawkins says this. The eye of Jehovah is eternally
fixed on the Lord Jesus Christ, whom this temple typified." So
the temple that David was speaking of, Hawker says, typified Christ. Go to John chapter 2, and look
at what our Lord says here. I was just in awe. John chapter 2, verse 18 and
22. Then answered the Jews and said
unto him, What signs showest thou unto us, seeing that thou
doest these things? Jesus answered and said unto
them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it
up. Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple
in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days? Now remember,
remember, in 2 Chronicles it said, But will God in very deed
dwell with man on the earth? for in Him dwelleth all the fullness
of the Godhead body. John 2.21, look at this. So the
Jews asked him, then said the Jews, forty and six years was
this temple unbuilt, and wilt thou rear it up in three days?
But he spake of the temple of his body. My goodness, beloved. When therefore He was risen from
the dead, His disciples remembered that He said this unto them,
and they believed the Scripture in the words which Jesus had
said." Oh my, what a picture. What a picture. But will God
in very deed dwell with man on the earth? For in Him dwelleth
all the fullness of the Godhead. Oh, what a picture, beloved. Now this is the second time that
Paul has told us that all fullness is in Christ in this book. Look in Colossians 1.19, it says
this, For it pleased the Father that in Him should all fullness
dwell. And you tie that in with our
verse tonight in verse 9. And it says again, For in him
dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. And this
same thought is also found in verse 3, but it doesn't say that
specifically. But some of the, I think it was
Hendrickson was pointing to the fact that this has that same
connotation. Look at this. In whom are hid
all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. There's a fullness
in Christ that's found nowhere else, beloved. Nowhere else.
Only in Him. Only in Christ Jesus our Lord.
So again, think of this. Paul is contrasting the fullness
which the believer has in Christ and the fullness of who Christ
is with what the false teachers are proclaiming, which is Christ
plus tradition or Christ plus ceremony or Christ plus the rudiments
of the world. So he's contrasting. right before
the Colossians' eyes. And remember, this is all by
inspiration of the Holy Spirit. So this is for our learning too,
isn't it? Not just the Colossians' learning. And we see that we
battle in this very day the same thing. People adding to Scripture,
things that aren't even in Scripture. Or people adding their works
or decision, right? Nothing's changed. Nothing's
changed at all. We still battle the same things
that the Colossian believers battled. And we must contend
for the faith. We must hold firm to what we
believe. So let us think of this, beloved.
Let us think of this. You can add nothing to fullness. You can't add anything to fullness.
Nothing. But yet people try, don't they?
Because they don't know God. They don't know that Christ hasn't
revealed Himself to them. You can't add anything to fullness.
Nothing at all. For in Him dwelleth all the fullness
of the Godhead bodily. Now it says the fullness of the
Godhead Paul here in our text states that the fullness of the
Godhead dwells in Christ. He means simply that God is wholly
found in him. So that he who is not satisfied
with Christ alone, desires something better than God. See, I never thought of that
when I was in religion. Praise God who showed me grace. But
that's the truth. If people are not satisfied with
Christ alone, then they desire something more excellent than
God. And there ain't anything more excellent than God. Nothing. Nothing. He's perfect. He's the perfect spotless Lamb
of God. He's the God-man. How can men, and I can't criticize
because I was there, but how can we have the audacity as animated
dust to think that we can add to that which is perfect? I really
don't think, and I can say this with confidence, that people
who add, they have no idea They don't even have a clue who the
God of the Bible is. I was talking to young Jake, and we were talking
about that, just texting back and forth today. And I said to
him, I can't. I was there. But praise God,
he showed me his grace. And Jake said the same thing,
because he came out of that too. But the audacity that we humans. See, man wants anything but God. You know, man wants to control
a few things. The believer bows to the power of God. We know
that we're at his mercy. We know that. We've been shown
that, haven't we? Our insufficiency and his all-sufficiency. Oh,
what a great God. What grace and mercy he has to
his people. What grace and mercy. So the
sum is this, that God has manifested Himself to us fully and perfectly
in Christ, Jesus our Lord. If you have seen Christ, you've
seen the Father. All the fullness dwells in Christ,
beloved. The fullness of the Father dwells
in Jesus Christ, the God-man. The fullness of the Holy Spirit
dwells in Jesus Christ, the God-man. The Lord Jesus Christ, the God-man,
is equal with God the Father. Equal. and God the Holy Spirit. They're equal in essence and
in purpose and in power. Now he humbled himself and became
obedient to the law of God. He became obedient, didn't he?
Why? That was for you and I. That was for us. He's sinless. He's perfect. So he who is perfect
comes to redeem we sinners. Oh, what mercy. What mercy. The Greek word for fullness is
here defined as, that which is, has been filled. That which fills or with which
a thing is filled. And in this definition, completeness
or fullness of time. Fullness, abundance. Have you
ever had a, we like to drink out of mason jars, and this is
a pretty poor illustration, but we like to drink out of mason
jars. Do you know, if I fill that thing to the top, to the
brim, I can't get anything else in it. Because what happens,
otherwise it just goes all over, right? So when it's full, it
can't hold anything else. It's complete, it's filled. In
Christ, all the fullness of the God that dwells in him bodily. Oh my. He's perfect. Now look at the latter part of
our verse here. For in Him dwelleth all the fullness
of the Godhead bodily. Now think on this, beloved, and
I want you to turn to John chapter 1. Let us think on this. Turn
to John chapter 1, and I'll just read a small portion here. Think
on this, beloved. The word spoken of in the text
that we're going to look at the Word became incarnate in
the flesh. The one who has infinite wisdom,
the one who spoke the worlds into existence, the one who has
infinite wisdom, the one who has infinite goodness, the one
who is perfect and sinless, holy, the one who has infinite holiness,
the one who has infinite power, The One who has infinite mercy. The Word became flesh and dwelt
among us. And in Him dwelt all the fullness
of the Godhead bodily. Look at John 1, verses 1 and
2. In the beginning was the Word. Okay. And the Word was with God. And the Word was God. Now the
cults changed that, but this Greek text, it proclaims the
Logos became flesh. The Word became flesh. He's God. So in the beginning
was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning
with God. So the Word who was God, the
Word who was with God, became the God-Man, the Lord Jesus Christ. And again, I'll read our text,
but stay right there in John 1. For in Him dwelleth all the
fullness of the Godhead bodily. The Word became flesh. Look at John 1.14-18. So the
very Word spoken of in John 1.1, And the Word was what? Was made
flesh. Again, I'll read our text. For
in Him dwelt all the fullness of the Godhead. Oh, beloved. And the Word was made flesh and
dwelt among us. And we beheld His glory. The
glory is of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace. John bear witness of Him. cried
saying this was he of whom I spake he that cometh after me is preferred
before me for he was before me and Of his fullness there is
that word again have have all we received and grace for grace
For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus
Christ It only came by Christ no man has seen God at any time
Now look at this. Now look at this and remember,
remember verse 1. In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Look at this.
No man has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, the Word,
the Word who was with God, and the Word who was God, which is in the bosom of the
Father, He hath declared Him. Think about, now go back to our
verse in Colossians, for in him, Christ, dwelleth all the fullness
of the Godhead bodily. Here is the union which the theologians
call the hyperstatic union, which is a term used to describe the
union of Christ's humanity and divinity. We use the term God-man. He's the God-man. He's fully
God and fully man. And we've looked at the fact
that he's the God-man earlier in this message. And from every
message that's proclaimed, we proclaim that Christ is the God-man.
I don't have to use theological words. Let's just bring it down
to where we can understand. He's the God-man. He's the God-man. So let us ponder this. Whoever mixes Christ with works
or ceremonies or traditions or anything else necessary for salvation
is saying that Christ, again, is not a perfect sacrifice. They're saying that Christ didn't
do a perfect work. They're saying that Christ is
not enough. But what do we say? Christ is
my all in all. He's absolutely everything to
me. He's all my salvation. He's all my redemption. He's
all my sanctification. He fulfilled all the law in my
place. He died before God's justice
in my place. He's everything. And it ain't
anything I did. It's all what He's done. Only
what Christ Jesus our Lord has done. Oh my, what a Savior. They are
saying that Christ is not a perfect Savior. We say He's absolutely
perfect. They are saying that He's not
a perfect substitute. If He's not my substitute, I
don't have any substitute. They are adding to His finished
work and thus they deny the fact that all the fullness of the
Godhead dwelt in Him and that His work is sufficient. They
are denying that He is sufficient. We say He is sufficient for all
our salvation. We say that He is so sufficient
for our salvation that if we don't have Him, we don't have
salvation. He's everything. He's everything. They are saying that God is not
satisfied with the work of Christ. You must add your works. We say
that's just lies from the pit of hell. Because God is satisfied with
the sacrifice of Christ. And how do I know that? Because
He's raised for my justification. And for yours if you believe.
Do you see the danger of adding and mixing works with grace? It's no more grace. It's no more
grace. And what people proclaim that
it's Christ plus your works is nothing but blasphemy. My dear
brothers and sisters, that's all it is. God will only accept the sacrifice
of His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. He will accept no other sacrifice.
Nothing can be added to fullness. Nothing. Nothing can be added
to perfection. Nothing can be added to the work
of Christ. Because Christ has wrought out
salvation for His people. And we can add absolutely nothing
to it, and we don't want to. It is finished. God sees people say, praise you,
Lord Jesus. We rejoice, don't we? We rejoice. So let us ponder this, that we
are born sinners and we cannot save ourselves. We cannot make
ourselves holy. The Lord Jesus Christ, God incarnate
in the flesh, becomes a man to fulfill the law for us. to make
we who are sinners righteous. We who are unrighteous are made
righteous by Christ. To die before again, and think
of this, to die before his law. Because he's God, isn't he? This
is his holy law. He's dying before his law. He's
dying before his justice. Who's he dying for? The sins
of his people. who are sinners like me and like
you too. And those who bow down to Jesus
Christ, bow down to the true and living God. The true and
living God. Those who refuse to bow down
to Jesus Christ and have never bowed down to Him, will one day
bow down. But it will be too late. If we allow anyone or anything
to turn away our eye of faith, away from Christ, then we are
turning away from the true and living God. As I said, we walk in Him the
same way we received Him, by faith. So the beware is the warning
in verse 8. And that warning comes from God
Himself, because He inspired Paul to write that. Turn, if you would, to Colossians
1. And then put your finger in 1 Corinthians 1, if you could. We're almost finished. Faith
clearly sees that the fullness of the Godhead dwells from everlasting
to everlasting in Christ. And this fact is proclaimed and
demonstrated by Christ's work both in creation and in the redemption
of His people. Look at Colossians 1, 15-17,
who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature. Christ is the image of the invisible
God and we know from our text tonight that all the fullness
of the Godhead dwells in Him bodily. Look at this, by Christ,
where all things created that are in heaven and that are in
earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones or dominions
or principalities or powers, all things were created by Him
and for Him, and He is before all things, and by Him all things
consist. We need not to stress out and
worry about what's going to happen in a month or in two months. God already knows what's going
to happen. We need to rest in Him. Don't
we? And it's not just for the next
few months. It's for however long we're on this earth. Oh my. Our God is absolutely
softened. Now there is nothing that will
make a believer look to Christ alone and cling to Christ alone
and rest in Christ alone than to realize that everything God
is, Everything that God requires and all that a sinner needs is
in Christ. When God reveals that to us,
we cling to Him. We cleave to Him, don't we? Like
we looked at on Sunday. We cleave to Him. Now turn, if
you would, to 1 Corinthians 1.30 and 31. And I'll read our text
again for tonight. For in Him, being Christ, dwelleth
all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. So this will sum it up. We'll look at these two verses
and then we'll be done. Look at this. Again, let us always
remember that in Him all the fullness of the Godhead dwells
bodily. He's perfect. He's the perfect substitute.
He's the perfect redeemer. He is absolutely perfect. We
need nothing else, no one else but Christ. Look at this. But
of Him are ye. So, but of Him are ye. God's elect. In Christ Jesus,
nowhere else, see? It's only in Christ that we're
these, who of God is made unto us wisdom and righteousness. Where does our, where, who, where
does any of, anything we learn, who does that come from? The
Holy Spirit reveals the things of Christ to us, doesn't he?
Who's our righteousness? Christ. And sanctification. I asked the
guy today. He started bringing up stuff.
I said, can you make yourself holy? He stopped dead in the
tracks. He says, no. I said, no, you can't. We're
sanctified in Christ. And it says, and redemption.
Who's all our redemption? Christ. Now look at this. It's all in Him, and we believe
that salvation is of the Lord, and in Christ Jesus the Lord,
plus absolutely nothing, right? Why? That is, that according
as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. No room to boast. No room for
the poor sinner to boast, is there? We glory in Christ Jesus,
in Him alone. Gracious Heavenly Father, thank
You that we had this time that we could gather together. We
give You praise and glory for Your Word. Oh, we see how, Lord
Jesus, that You are a perfect Redeemer, a perfect Savior, that
You are and were God manifest in the flesh, and we know that
You're the God-man mediator now. You're in heaven mediating for
Your people. Oh, we marvel that You've revealed
Yourself to us. That You've shown us Your truth.
That You saved us by Your precious grace. May our lips be full of
praise. And may we give You all the glory
in Jesus' name, Amen.
