Oh, say does that star-spangled
banner yet wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the
brave Oh. Thank you. May you be seated
as we turn once again in our hymn, the hymn number 204. 200 fold, nothing moving Welcome each and everyone this
morning and we thank the Lord for bringing us back into this
place. We just rejoice in the privilege
to gather together and to sing His praise and to worship His
holy name. I want to be in prayer for those
that are away, some that are sick. Please remember my daughter
Stephanie, she's back in the hospital. in Hanover, in Wilmington, in
room 1001. She wanted us to be sure and
pray for her, and for Brother Roger and others, and ask the
Lord's mercies on them, all according to His perfect will. I want to thank Brother Richard
for speaking for me last Sunday. It was a real blessing to me. I couldn't see his face, but
the camera is somehow not working right. But if it had been working
right, I wouldn't have seen his face anyway, according to his
son. And it might be a blessing today. The technology level is beyond
my grade. I just can't figure it out, but
I'll get somebody that can. But faith comes by hearing. Hearing by the Word of God. Turn with me, if you would, for
our reading this morning to Psalm 32. Psalm 32. Psalm of David. Blessed is he whose transgression
is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man unto whom
the Lord imputes not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is
no guile. When I kept silence, my bones
waxed old through my roaring all the day long. For day and
night, thy hand was heavy upon me. My moisture is turned into
the drought of summer. I acknowledged my sin unto thee,
and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my
transgressions unto the Lord, and thou forgavest the iniquity
of my sin. For this shall every one that
is godly pray unto thee in the time when thou mayest be found. Surely in the floods of great
waters they shall not come nigh unto him. Thou art my hiding
place. Thou shalt preserve me from trouble. Thou shalt confess me about with
songs of deliverance. And we pray. Our Father, we lift up our unworthy
voices before the throne of your grace. And we know that only
in the Lord Jesus Christ, only through that work by which he
is now enthroned absolutely successful have you made this to be a throne
of grace to your people, that we might obtain health in all
our times of need. And truly all our days upon this
earth are times of need. It is just one big time of need. Man born of woman is a few days
and full of trouble. And we look to you and your grace
and we plead your mercy that you would look upon us with favor
and graciously deal with us in your son. We thank you for all
that you have blessed us to receive of your hands We know that every
good and perfect gift comes down from the unchangeable, sovereign
God of glory. And we ask this morning that
you would meet with us, that you would grant to us that special
blessing of your presence, that you would come and work by your
spirit to open our eyes and open our ears and most especially
as Lydia opened our hearts that we might believe the things of
your word. Grant to us to preach the precious
gospel of Christ, the gospel of your grace, the gospel of
peace, of a peace made already by Christ through the blood of
His cross, that blood of which we have just sung, knowing that
nothing but the blood accounts for sinners in Thy presence. We pray for these that are sick,
for our own daughter, that You would bless her and help her. We know of no other physician
that can do that which must be done, either physically or spiritually. We pray for Brother Roger. We
pray for Joe. We pray for those of your people
who have afflictions and trials and troubles, for those, Lord,
who are yet deceived, that you would bring them out of their
darkness into your marvelous light, of those that Satan takes
captive of at his will. And we pray that you might, by
grace, grant to them repentance to the delivering of themselves
out of his captivity. We pray that we would be drawn
to gaze upon the Lord Jesus Christ, that we would hear Him and not
the voices of our logic, that we would not be deceived or deterred
from following after Christ in obeying those things that most
simply are commanded of us. We pray, Lord, that You would
help us for Thy name's sake in all things and bless Your people
where they're gathered every place upon which you've appointed
on the earth. Grant to us that we might enter
into true worship this day. Bless your servants who truly
proclaim the gospel of your free grace in Christ. Receive our
thanks this day, and be in our midst for your great glory's
sake. We ask it in Christ's name. Once again, number 437. I am His and He is mine. Let my grace and love you know,
Spirit, feed me from above. Thou hast called me in His soul,
All is full and perfect peace, All is transferred, all divine. I am His and He is mine. In a love which cannot cease,
I am His and He is mine. Softer blue, in the round, is
sweeter green. Something lives in every hue,
priceless eyes have never seen. Birds with gladder songs approach,
flowers with deeper beauty shine. Since I know, as now I know,
I am His, and He is mine. Since I know, as now I know,
I am His, and He is mine. Things that once were wild and
lost cannot now Closed in everlasting arms, held
alone by loving friends, For to lie forever here, loud in
care and self-presigned, God, He whispers in my ear, I am His
and He is mine. God, He whispers in my ear, I
am His and He is mine. Christ can fill the loving heart,
Heaven and earth may faint and flee, Lost from life in doomed
decline. I am His, and He is mine. Good for God, and I shall be. I am His, and He is mine. For the throne of God above,
I have a strong and perfect plea, A great high pleas to make this
law. Whoever lives and feeds for me. My name is written on all his
hearts. My name is written on his heart. I know that God will mend his
ties. when Satan tempts me to despair
and tells me all the guilt within. But when I look and see him there,
who made an end of all my sin, Because the sinless Savior died,
My sinful soul is counted free, For God the just is satisfied. To look on Him and pardon me. To look on Him and pardon me. I am the King of glory and of
praise. One with whom so far I cannot
die, My soul is purchased by His blood. My life is filled
with Christ, Lord God, With Christ my Savior and my God. With Christ my Savior and my
God. Let's continue to remember Julie
as she recovers from her surgery. Look back there at all those
young faces and I I hope we'll pray for each one of them that
the Lord would give them wisdom in all their decisions they have
to make in these early stages of their life. Turn this morning with me in
your Bibles to the book of 2 Samuel. The first few words of this chapter
are to make us all pay close attention. 2 Samuel Now these be the last words of
David. David the son of Jesse said,
and the man who was raised up on high, the anointed of the
God of Jacob, and the sweet solace of Israel said, The Spirit of
the Lord spake by me, and his word was in my tongue. The God of Israel said, the Rock
of Israel spake to me. He that ruleth over men must
be just, ruling in the fear of God. and he shall be as the light
of the morning when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds,
as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining
after rain. Although my house be not so with
God, yet he hath made with me an everlasting covenant ordered
in all things and sure, for this is all my salvation
and all my desire, although he make it not to grow. But the
sons of Belial shall be all of them as thorns thrust away. because they cannot be taken
with hands. For the man that shall touch
them must be fenced with iron and the staff of a spear, and
they shall be utterly burned with fire in the same place." This man, David, is a prominent figure in both
the Old Testament and the New Testament. He is a type of every one of
God's elect, a type of every believer. And these, as we have read, are
his last words. This is what he had to say as
he faced eternity, as he was about to go out and meet God
in his deathbed. And he dies confessing his own
sin. He dies having to confess his
many failures. And yet as he dies, he dies in
hope. He dies with a glorious prospect
before him. And his sin Because God required that which
he had not done. Because he had disobeyed God
on many, many occasions. His sin did not cause God to
lower his standard one bit. God will not lower his standard
in order to save any son or daughter of Adam. When we read verses 3 and 4,
he reiterates what God said and what God continued He says, the
God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, he that
ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God. And he shall be as the light
of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without
clouds, as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining
after rain. David was a ruler. David was the king, and a king
Especially, God said, must rule justly and he must be before
all people a clean and good example. Shine like the rain that falls
on the grass. But David's confession is in
verse 5. He says immediately after stating
that, he says, although my house be not so with God. That's what God requires, that's
what God tells us, that's what he instructs us in, but that's
not the way my house has been before God. although my house is not so with
God. And that brings into consideration
David, this man, this king, personally. Who was he? Well, he was just
like every other one born into this world. He was a descendant
of fallen Adam. He fell into sin his father Adam. He was described by many in this
term. He's a bloody man. He had much destruction, much
killing, much activity of this sort in his life. He lied. And he lied at critical times. He lied in many ways, and he
stole another man's wife. Her name was Bathsheba. You know,
you're all familiar with her. He stole another man's wife after
God had said, thou shalt not commit adultery. Thou shalt not
take to thyself another man's wife. And he not only did that,
but he plotted and commanded the captain of his host, to have
her husband sent to the front of the battle so he would surely
die. And when he was home on furlough,
he made a plan, David did, to make sure he went home, but he
was so devoted to David and Israel, he wouldn't even go to his house
to rest. was killed naturally. David was
a murderer. He was a murderer. And he sinned,
the Bible says, in doing what God said not to do. He numbered
the people. And that's not to mention all
the day-to-day things that David did, that David was guilty of. You can hear him in in Psalm
51. Turn over there for just a minute. Psalm 51. He says, Have mercy
upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness, and according
unto the multitude of thy tender mercy, blot out my transgressions. He says, Wash me through thoroughly
from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge
my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. And against
thee and thee only have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight. be justified when thou speakest,
and be clear when thou judgest. Behold, I was shapen in iniquity,
and in sin did my mother conceive me. Behold, thou desirest truth
in the inner parts, and in the hidden part thou shalt make me
to know wisdom. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall
be clean. Wash me, and I shall be whiter
than snow. Blot out mine iniquity. He's confessing his own individual
sins. He's confessing his own disobedience,
his lies, his adulteries, and every other thing imaginable. He was a sinner personally, as
the head of this house, the head of Israel, the head of his own
house. He was a sinner, even when he
came down. to this death time. And when you consider David's
household in the broader sense, his family, his son Amnon raped his own sister, David's
daughter. His son Absalom rebelled his throne and sought to kill
him and steal his kingdom. This man who was a child of God,
his family was not indicative of that in any way. They were
a bunch of rebels and such as that they were a wild and a wicked
lot. They didn't turn out good. He could say it in all honesty
concerning his own family as well as his own self. He says,
although my household be not so with God. His wife, Michael. Turn over to 1 Chronicles. 1 Chronicles chapter 15. This is David's household. This
is his children. This is his family. This is his
wife. 1 Chronicles chapter 15. Look down at verse 25. They're
bringing him back and bringing in the Ark of the Covenant. So
David and the elders of Israel And the captains over thousands
went to bring up the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord out of the
house of Obed-Edom with joy. The Ark of the Covenant was to
be replaced in the right place. And it says, And it came to pass,
when God helped the evil Levites that bear the Ark of the Covenant
of the Lord, that they offered seven books and seven rams And
David was clothed with a robe of fine linen, and all the Levites
that bear the ark, and the singers, and Janiah the master of the
song with the singers. David also had upon him an ephod
of linen. And thus all Israel brought up
the ark of the covenant of the Lord with shouting and with the
sound trumpets, and with cymbals, and
making a noise, and with soldiers in heart. And it came to pass,
as the ark of the covenant of the Lord came to the city of
David, that Michael, the daughter of Saul, who was the wife of
David, looking out a window, saw King
David, dancing and playing and she despised him in her heart. She was married to David but
she was still in the family of Saul. And when she saw her own
husband, when she saw the man of God rejoicing of the covenant
was being brought in and all these things were taking place,
she despised David and she accused him of doing this boisterous
and unkingly like thing and associating with these soldiers and servants
in the streets. And she hated him. That's David's
wife. And there are many, many more
details. There are many, many more details
about David personally and the family of David that would bring
him to confess this very thing, that my house is not so with
God. He hasn't lowered his standard. It's still true. But the truth
is that all I am is a sinner and all I've given birth to is
sinners. And that's the case that it is
everywhere, every time. in all of God's people because
we're all this way by nature. And this is the way of all our
households, that it will be this way and is this way, but for
the grace of God. You remember E? When she found out that she was
going to have a child, and she had that child, she said, I've
gotten the man, that promised one, she said, I've gotten the
man from the Lord. But what had she really gotten?
What had she really given birth to? She'd given birth to Cain,
who was a murderer in his heart. who was a reprobate, who is used
as an example of unbelievers, the non-elite, the people who
disobey God and go out into eternity and face His judgment. That's
who she'd given birth to. The same was with Noah's boys. The same was with everyone that's
ever lived. Because the truth is our example
or our teaching or our desire does not in any way guarantee
the salvation of our children. Because grace does not run in
bloodlines. Grace does not run in families. Well you say preacher, what about
Psalm 22 verse 6? Train up a child in the way he
should go and when he is old he will not depart from it. What
does that mean? What is the way that we read
about in scripture? The way is Christ the way. And when we teach our children
the right, we teach them that Christ alone is the way. There is no other way of pleasing
God. There is no other way of salvation. He is the way. And so when we
declare to them and teach to them and get them under the sound
of the gospel, This proverb is true because when they're old,
that doesn't necessarily mean that they'll be saved, but they'll
never in their mind and conscious be able to escape this truth.
And if God is pleased to save them and deliver them, he'll
call this truth back to their heart. But out of his family, God chose David. What was the
difference in David, every other king, David, every other man
in Israel? The difference was a difference
made by God. God chose David. and he sovereignly made him king. He chose him to be king. But he not only chose him to
be king, he chose him to salvation. How could he choose this man
to salvation? The same way he chooses every
sinner he saves to salvation, he chose him in Christ. Look how God speaks of him. Now these be the last words of
David. David the son of Jesse. David
the man who was raised up on high. He was raised all the way to
the highest throne in the world at the time. But he's not only
talking about that, he was raised up to glory. And he is the anointed
of the God of Jacob. He is God's anointed. That's what the Bible says of
every believer, you have an anointing. What is that? The teaching and
the witness of God's Spirit that every bit of salvation is in
Christ. And that anointing is always
taking the things of Christ and showing them to you by the Spirit
and Word of God. David cannot be known and thought
of for what he did. David is known for who he believed
and what he believed about God. He believed the witness of God
and he calls himself, and God calls him, The God of Jacob. David believed God. But he didn't believe just any
God. He didn't believe idols. He didn't
believe all these other false idolatrous gods. David believed
the God of Jacob. And that's the one title I think
that sets God away from every false God. Because the God of
this one and that one is the God of that perfect person. That
person that tried to live the best or do the most or whatever
he is. But he's the God of Jacob. Who's Jacob? He was a vile sinner. Corrupt. Conniving. supplanter, the God of Jacob. God chooses to identify himself. And he calls David the sweet
psalmist of Israel. And you know what? Amazingly. Here in verse 2 of 2 Samuel 23,
he says, The Spirit of the Lord spake by me, and his word was
in my tongue." David! I've heard people say, if a man doesn't live it, I don't
want to hear him speak it. Well, you might as well just
cut the book of Psalms right out of your Bible. The glory of God is that He,
through earthen vessels, chosen of His own self, He causes His
word to be spoken by thee. All the prophets, you read about
them in the Old Testament, they were a weak and frail bunch. All the apostles that you read
about such as Peter, impetuous Peter. There are men with hearts
of brass but feet of clay. If you ever hear the Gospel, it will probably be through the
least likely vessel that you would imagine. logically. It will be through the least
likely individual that God sends you away with the gospel. Because even though David had
his problems and his sins and all these things, that did not
keep the Lord's word from being true. Turn back over to 1 Samuel chapter
13. Listen to this word that's spoken
to King Saul. King Saul was the king. But God was about to dethrone
him Because God raises up whom He willed to be on the throne. And these words are spoken to
Saul in 1 Samuel 13 verse 14. But now thy kingdom shall not
continue. That's what God says. It doesn't
matter how you try. It doesn't matter what is used
to preserve your kingdom. Your kingdom is not going to
continue. Guess what? It didn't continue. The Lord has sought him a man
after his own heart. That doesn't mean that David
in some kind of special way was favorable of God because of something
in him. It meant that God chose him who
he would according to his own heart. And the Lord commanded
him to be captain over his people because thou hast not kept that
which the Lord commanded thee. Your kingdom is gone. And David, this man after my
own heart, is going to be king. Look over in chapter 16. The Lord sent Samuel, the prophet,
to anoint the new king. And he sent him down there to
the house of Jesse, And verse 4 says, And Samuel
did that which the Lord spake, and came to Bethlehem. And the
elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said, Comest
thou peace of them? They were so wicked. They knew
that God could send judgment any day. They were afraid when
the prophet walked into town. And he said, peaceably, I have
come to sacrifice unto the Lord. Sanctify yourselves and come
with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Jesse and his
sons and called them to the sacrifice. And it came to pass when they
were come that he looked upon Eliab and said, surely the Lord's
anointed is before you. big strong man, fine specimen,
talks good, looks good. But the Lord said unto Samuel,
Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature,
because I have refused him. For the Lord seeth not as a man
seeth, for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord
looketh on the heart. Then Jesse called Abinadab, and
made him pass before Samuel, and he said, Neither hath the
Lord chosen this. Then Jesse made Shammah, to pass
by. And he said, neither hath the
Lord chosen this. Again, Jesse made seven of his
sons to pass before Samuel. And Samuel said unto Jesse, the
Lord hath not chosen these. What is this? Sovereign election. The Lord chooses whom he will. And Samuel said unto Jesse, are
all your children here? And he said, They remaineth yet
the youngest, and behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel
said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him, for we will not sit down
until he come hither. And he sent him, and brought
him in. Now he was ready, and with all
of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look at. And the Lord
said, Arise, anoint him for this is he. This is it. You see, this is
the only reason that David will be king. And this is the only
reason that any person will be saved. We read that in Ephesians. Blessed
be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who hath blessed
thee with all the spiritual blessings in Christ Jesus and he's chosen
you from the foundation of the world look over in the book of Acts Acts chapter 13 Paul is recounting what has taken
place in the very event that we just read about. Verse 21,
he says, And afterward they desired a king. And God gave unto them
Saul, the son of Ceas, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, by
the space of forty years. And when he had removed him,
He raised up unto them David to be the king, to whom also
he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of
Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfill all my will. He said David fulfilled all his
will. Well, I find it hard, somebody
says, to believe that the will of God was for David to take
Bathsheba, or that the will of God was to be the death of Uriah,
or the will of God to this and that and the other. It happened, didn't it? It happened because God works
all things after the counsel of his own Lord. That's not to
justify any man's sin. That's not to lift up and promote
sinfulness. That's just to recognize and
believe what God says. He's the man after God's heart. He was chosen He was favored
by an act of the sovereign God before the foundation of the
world. And this salvation is not his response to God and it's
not an act preceding what God has done, even David's believing. Why? Because salvation is of
the Lord. You may not be worried about
salvation right now. But when you get on your deathbed,
if you have a deathbed, you'll be interested in salvation. You or I died without a deathbed. Most people die without a deathbed. In our day, they're killed suddenly
in wrecks, They run up with a maniac on the street. David confesses. I don't have the perfect life.
I sure don't have the perfect family. Yeah. One of the most wonderful words is in verse 5 of our text. Although my house be not so with
God. Yet He, this is where salvation by grace
always starts. Starts with God as the initiator. God as acting beforehand. Yet He, that is God, sovereignly
and without any help and in the past tense, He did it. He had. That's what most people do not
realize. They think that redemption is
a reaction of God. Salvation is a reaction of God
to something that they do. But it cannot be. And it cannot be
because we cannot do it. It cannot be because we're said
to be dead in trespasses and sin. We must be saved. Rescued. He hath past tense already completed
made with me. I didn't make the deal. He made
this with me. With me as just as I am and was. This sinner and with a household
full of sinners. He, God alone, did it and He
did it in Christ Jesus the Lord. He made. And that's a New Testament
word. God made it. He made Christ unto his people
wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption. It says that he made his people
the righteousness of God in Christ. And he did that by imputing to
them or charging to them the very righteousness of the Lord
Jesus Christ. He reckoned them all righteous
in Christ. Made the righteousness of God
in him. Could you say that David was
a righteous man? God could. And he imputed to David the very
righteousness of Christ. He imputed to David a work done
outside of himself. A work finished on the cross
of Calvary. Yea, even before the world began. He's that lamb slain from the
foundation of the world. He's made with David a covenant,
a pledge, a testament. I was talking with someone last
week about They were talking about leaving, fixing everything
where you leave it to your children, just like you home. Well, I urge
you to try. But when two dozen lawyers get
through with it, they can take anything you pledge and covenant
and everything else, and you want it to be permanent, but
it'll be just about as temporary as it can be. But not this covenant. He's made
with me an everlasting covenant. In that covenant is an everlasting
salvation, is everlasting life, is the everlasting righteousness. It cannot be in any way altered
by anyone, any devil, any power on this earth. It's the oath of God. The promise
of God who cannot lie, who cannot change. And it says here, He's made with
me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all Well, I put it all down in agreement,
but I left one little thing out. I made one little mistake. I
don't know what will happen now. Ordered in all things. And that means it meets the needs
of God as a just God. God's applying that standard
to Himself. He that rules must be just. That's why He told Moses and
all the elders and judges in Israel, make sure that you have
a just measure and that everything you decide is done on a just
basis because that's righteousness. God ordered it in all things.
Paid for all the sins of His people. It's ordered for God
as He is, and it satisfies and works to man as he is, the sinner. And every detail and every requirement
and every promise is met by Christ, whose blood is the blood of the
everlasting covenant, And that's what makes it sure. God's people have a sure salvation. Because it depends all on the
covenant head. The one who's called the messenger
of the covenant. The Lord Jesus Christ. Who is God and perfect man. And that's why it's sure. Sure. I've never been a gambler. I never wanted to gamble. Oh,
I'd like to win a million, but it's too unsure for me. But this is sure. Salvation in
Christ is sure because Christ is sure. He's done everything
necessary to satisfy and honor God. He's that one who is forever
the Savior of his people. Turn over to the book of Hebrews. Hebrews chapter 8. Look at verse 6, speaking of
Christ. But now hath he obtained a more
excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a
better covenant which is established upon better promises. That's Christ. He's the mediator
of the covenant. He's the one whose person and
work guarantees the covenant. If it depends on you, they can't
be sure. Look at chapter 12 of Hebrews. Chapter 12 and verse 24. And
to Jesus, the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood
of Sprinkly, that speaketh better things than that of Abel. His blood. His sacrifice. That's what it means. His blood
is his sacrifice. that He performed on the cross
whereby He laid down His life as the substitute of His people
for the sins of His people. That covenant all hinged on what
He did. And He fulfilled all and said,
it's finished. David said, this is all my salvation. That's saying something, isn't
it? When you land there on your deathbed, and you're facing eternity,
you're about to leave this world, and you can say, this is all
my salvation. Brother Scott Richardson was
asked one time, he said, someone asked him, they said, is Christ
really enough? And he wisely replied, if he's
all you've got, he's enough. This is all my salvation. Christ
and Him crucified. That's all my hope. That's all
my salvation. Because Christ is all. This covenant
salvation in Christ is all. It's not most. It's not all plus
my works. It's not all plus my Christian
life. It's not all plus my obedience. John said, we're complete in
Christ. You tell me what the dying thief
had but Christ. He had no good life. He had no
baptism. He had no church membership.
He had nothing but the one who was hanging on the middle cross. who spoke to him and said, this
day, you'll be with me in paradise. Why? Because I'm all, I'm all
of salvation. And this is all my desire. When we rest in the grace of
God, and in the finished work of Christ, we're satisfied. If we haven't,
we're not. But if we do, if we're enabled
to, we'll be satisfied because God
is satisfied. That's what it is to have fellowship
with God, to agree with God in this. God says, I'm satisfied
with Christ, my son. And I say by faith, I'm satisfied
with Christ. And we have fellowship. We can
partake one with the other on that basis. I thought about it
as Richard Chaney. I have a perfect place. What a perfect place, a perfect
Christ who performed a perfect work and honored and satisfied
God on my behalf. The scriptures also refer to
this house of David with great promises. Turn over to the book of Zechariah. Zechariah chapter 12. He's not just talking about this Old
Testament Saint David as a type of God's
elect, as a type of God's believing people, but he's talking about
David as a type of Christ also. Zechariah 12 and verse 8. In
that day shall the Lord defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
And he that is feeble among them at that day shall be as David,
and the house of David shall be as God, as the angel of the
Lord before him. And it shall come to pass in
that day that I will seek to destroy all nations that come
against Jerusalem, and I will pour upon the house of David
and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem the spirit of grace and supplications
and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced and they shall
mourn for him as one mourned for his only son and shall be
in bitterness for him as one that is in bitterness for his
firstborn. You see the house of David is
also in scripture a type of all God's people of whom David's
Lord is the head. Look over at chapter 13, verse 1, In that day there shall
be a fountain opened to the house of David and to
the inhabitants of Jerusalem, a fountain for sin and for uncleanness. Hebrews chapter 3 in verse 1
Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider
the apostle and high priest of our profession, Christ Jesus,
who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses
was faithful in all his house. For this man was counted worthy
of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath built the house
hath more honor than the house. And every house that is built
is built by some man, but he that built all things is God. And Moses verily was faithful
in all his house as a servant for a testimony of those things
which were to be spoken after. But Christ as a son over his
own house, whose house we are if we hold
fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the host, firm until the end. That doesn't mean that that's
the condition of our being in that house. That means that is
the result and the evidence of being in that house. They hold
fast to Christ, the Son, the head of the house, all the way. Although my house be not so with
God. I could say it truly about myself
personally. I could surely say it about my
own family personally. Although it be not so with my
house, it is with Christ's house. And He's made me to dwell in
His house forever. So that we can say, if we are
believers, true believers. Surely goodness and mercy shall
follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the
house of the Lord forever. The Lord And David's life worked
all things together for good. David had another son, and he was born of that Bathsheba. And his name you might have heard
of, King Solomon. Our Father, we pray this morning
that you would take your word and by your Spirit show to us
the way of salvation. Show us the Savior, that greater
than David, greater than Moses, that one whose house we are. if we believe in you. That will
be the evidence. We pray that you would glorify
yourself and we ask it in Christ's name. Amen. I can't move. I can't move.
