The sermon titled "The Excellence of the Lord's Name" by Jabez Rutt centers on the theological significance of God's name as expressed in Psalm 8:1. He articulates that the names of God in Scripture embody His character and attributes, culminating in the name of Jesus, which signifies salvation for His people. This declaration emphasizes the profound significance of God's name, which encompasses His character, authority, and the covenant relationship He maintains with His people. Why is the name of Jesus important for Christians?

The name of Jesus is vital for salvation and represents His identity as the Savior of sinners.

The name of Jesus carries significant weight for Christians as it encapsulates His role as the Savior. In Matthew 1:21, we learn that 'Thou shalt call his name Jesus, for he shall save his people from their sins.' This name is not just a title but embodies the essence of His mission and work. Jesus represents the fulfillment of God's promise of redemption; He is the one who atones for sin and reconciles us to God. His name signifies our faith and reliance on Him for salvation, healing, and eternal life.

Matthew 1:21, Philippians 2:9-11

How do we know that God is omnipresent?

The Bible teaches that God is omnipresent, meaning He is present everywhere at all times.

In theology, God’s omnipresence means He is not limited by space or time, existing everywhere simultaneously. Scripture supports this with passages such as Psalm 139:7-10, which affirms that there is nowhere we can go from His presence. God’s omnipresence underscores His sovereignty; it also assures believers of His constant availability and support. Understanding this truth encourages Christians to rely on God's immediate presence in their lives, particularly in times of distress and trouble.

This promise reinforces that God is a refuge and safe place for the oppressed. Trusting in His name means relying on His covenant faithfulness and the assurance that He will deliver His people from harm and guide them in their lives. The name of the Lord, therefore, serves as a foundation for our faith and hope.

In Him the gentle child shall rest, All things shall see Him, all things shall know Him, God's Lord and Master. They shall know what is all the living and the dead, the living and the dead. Let us read together from the Holy Word of God in Psalms 8 and 9. The Book of Psalms, Numbers 8 and 9. O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is Thy name in all the earth, who has set Thy glory above the heavens.

Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength, because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger. When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars which thou hast ordained, what is man that thou art mindful of him, and the son of man that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands. Thou hast put all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field, the fowl of the air and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.

O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth. I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart. I will show forth all thy marvellous works. I will be glad and rejoice in thee. I will sing praise to thy name, O thou Most High. When mine enemies are turned back, They shall fall and perish at thy presence.

For thou hast maintained my right and my cause. Thou sattest in the throne judging right. Thou hast rebuked the heathen. Thou hast destroyed the wicked. Thou hast put out their name for ever and ever. O thou enemy, destructions are come to a perpetual end. and thou hast destroyed cities, their memorial is perished with them.

But the Lord shall endure forever. He has prepared his throne for judgment. He shall judge the world in righteousness. He shall minister judgment to the people in uprightness. The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed. a refuge in times of trouble.

And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee, for thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee. Sing praises to the Lord, which dwelleth in Zion. Declare among the people his doings. When he maketh inquisitions for blood, he remembereth them, He forgetteth not the cry of the humble. Have mercy upon me, O Lord. Consider my trouble which I suffer of them that hate me, thou that liftest me up from the gates of death, that I may show forth all thy praise in the gates of the daughter of Zion. I will rejoice in thy salvation.

The heathen are sunk down in the pit that they made. In the net which they hid is their own foot taken. The Lord is known by the judgment which he executed. The wicked is snared in the work of his own hands. Higeon, Selah. The wicked shall be turned into hell and all nations that forget God. For the needy shall not always be forgotten. The expectation of the poor shall not perish forever. Arise, O Lord, let not man prevail. Let the heathen be judged in thy sight. Put them in fear, O Lord, that the nations may know themselves to be but men. Selah.

Psalm number 8, verse 1.

O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is Thy name in all the earth, who has set Thy glory above the heavens. Oh Lord, our Lord. You notice the first Lord is in capital letters because it was translated from what is known as the incommunical name of Jehovah. The Lord Jehovah. The second one you notice in lower case, O Lord our Lord, which is from the Hebrew name Adonijah, which means the Lord of all.

The name Jehovah is what is known as a covenant name. It's the way that the great God of heaven reveals himself to his people hence it's called a covenant name and he reveals himself in a very special way to his people in that eternal covenant that has been ordered in all things and sure indeed as we have before us here and it's what particularly rested on my spirit How excellent is thy name in all the earth. And what I desire to bring before you is the name of the Lord. And when we read of the name of the Lord, it means his person, it means who he is. The names given to God and indeed many of the names in the Old Testament the children of Israel were given them, they are what are known as proper names like the name Samuel which means the gift of God and so the names that are given to God and there are many of them in Holy Scripture each one of them has a meaning and each one of them brings out a different aspect of who the God of Heaven is The name Jehovah really sets before us the glory of the eternal and the self-existent.

The essence of the meaning of the name Jehovah is the self-existent one. We read here in the Book of Psalms, from everlasting to everlasting thou art God and indeed in the New Testament the name Jehovah is paraphrased when Jesus speaks to his servant John in the book of the Revelation and he says to John I am he which is and which was and which is to come that essentially is a paraphrase of the name Jehovah I am he which is which is the present I am he which was which is all eternity past I am he which is to come forever.

He's the eternal God. He is without beginning and without ending. The apostle when he writes to the Hebrews, he speaks of the Lord Jesus as being Jehovah. He says Jesus Christ the same yesterday. That's yesterday eternal. Yesterday, today and forever. The eternal God. We quoted in prayer, actually I think it comes in Deuteronomy, the Eternal God is thy refuge and underneath are the everlasting arms, the Eternal God, the Creator. It says here in the Book of Psalms, it is he that hath made us and not we ourselves.

The world didn't just appear out of nothing. There's no such thing as a big bang. You've only got to read the first chapters of the book of Genesis and it clearly declares, in the beginning God created, didn't evolve, God created the heavens and the earth. It says in the earth was without form and void, that means there was nothing there.

And in actual fact, my beloved friends, the name creator or the word creator is to make something out of nothing that's the meaning of the word creator you know we often use that word in a very loose way and artists say well I created this and someone I created that but it's actually not to create something is to make something out of nothing there's only one that can do that that's the eternal God the creator of all things and it's he that sustains the universe the millions of stars and it says in the prophet Isaiah Those millions of stars, all the planets, He calleth them all by name. Not one of them faileth. You see, He's the Creator and the Sustainer. That's what the Apostle means when in the Acts of the Apostles, He says, in Him we live and move and have our being. In this great God, He made us. He sustains us.

Indeed, in the Word of God, it says very clearly there is a time to be born and there is a time to die. God's time. And you just think of the intimate nature of what God does. It's all things. Jesus said, the very hairs of your head are numbered. Not one of them falls without your father's leave. the very hairs of your head.

We sing, don't we, in that lovely hymn, my life's minutest circumstance is subject to thine eye. Oh that the Lord would give us enlarged views of the greatness of our God. As it says here in the book of Psalms, great is the Lord and greatly to be praised and his greatness is unsearchable. It says in the Word of God that He is infinite. See, we are finite. We have a beginning, we have an ending. We live in time. Everything is measured in seconds and minutes and hours and days and months and years.

And those days and months and years are controlled by the Eternal God, the way that He created in a 24-hour day. In six days God made heaven and earth. It speaks of the greatness of this God. In six days God made heaven and earth and all that there is. And God saw that it was good. God saw that it was good. He created man, the last thing that God created. And he said, Let us make man. Just think of that for a moment. Let us make man. That's in the first chapter of the book of Genesis. Let us. It's a significant word. Us.

The Bible maintains very specifically that there is one God. There is one God. He's the eternal God. He's the omnipotent God. There cannot be more than one omnipotent. See we're told today, I remember bumping into a lady where we used to live and she was a lady that frequented the Church of England and she said to me, well of course there's more than one God. I said, the Bible teaches us there's only one God. Oh no, she said.

The Muslim God and the Hindu God, they're all the same, they're all equal, but the Bible tells us very plainly there is one God, and that he alone must be worshipped. There is one God and one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus, who gave his life, a ransom for all. And any other God is called heathen. When it says a heathen in scripture, it's somebody who worships another God.

It's what's called a God with a small G. In the Holy Scriptures, the Eternal God is always written with a capital G. But any other God is written with a small G. There are no other Gods. It says in the Holy Law of God, thou shalt not bow down to them, thou shalt not make any any image of gold or silver of whatever it may be but there is this one true God and God is a spirit and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth Oh Lord our Lord how excellent is thy name in all the earth who has set thy glory above the heavens.

You know you think of the name of the Lord and there are obviously many many references in the holy scriptures to it but my mind it just goes for the moment to that beautiful passage in the Epistle to the Philippians and chapter 2. I'll read the whole passage because it's very instructive let this mind be in you verse 5 Philippians 2 verse 5 let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus who being in the form of God thought it not robbery to be equal with God speaks there of the glorious divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ and we go back I didn't finish what I was saying let us in Genesis 1 One God, but it says let us.

That's the first reference to the plurality of persons in the Godhead, in the Holy Scriptures. And as you go through Scripture, it enlarges on that point. And we are brought clearly to see there is God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost, and these three are one. Not three Gods, three divine persons existed in the Godhead, one glorious holy and eternal God. In the Colossians it says about the mystery of godliness and then it goes on to speak of the Trinity, the mystery of the Trinity. It is a mystery, how can three be one and how can one be three and yet that is the glorious mystery of the eternal God that we read of in holy scripture.

There are a number of places where it says, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Notice again, words are important, in the name, one name. In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost. Now, proper English would say that you put names, that should be plural, but it doesn't. It's singular. Why? Because there's one God and these three are one. in the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

And then we read here of the glorious person of our Lord Jesus Christ in Philippians 2, who being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God, but made himself of no reputation and took upon him the form of a servant, yet he is lord of all, yet he is king of kings, but he took upon him the form of a servant. Remember the first verse we read, let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus. Made himself of no reputation, took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men. Thou is the eternal God. This is another profound mystery of our faith. Great is the mystery of godliness. God was manifest in the flesh. They are profound mysteries.

Jesus Christ is the eternal son of God. And being found in fashion as a man, so he humbled himself as God to assume human nature by the Virgin Mary. and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him and given him a name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven and things in earth and things under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father. You see, it's a beautiful, so beautifully speaks of the name of Christ. Wherefore God also, this is the Savior that has ascended upon high. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him. Another name, of course, given to our Lord Jesus Christ is our great high priest. The apostle says in Hebrews chapter 4, for such an high priest have we, who is passed into the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God.

In the New Testament, we do not need, and in the Bible, There is no reference of an earthly priest in the New Testament. A priest is one that stands between, like a mediator. In the New Testament, we do not need an earthly priest. We have a heavenly priest.

For such an high priest have we, who is passed into the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God. and he sits at the right hand of the Majesty on high. The Apostle speaks so beautifully when he speaks of our Lord Jesus Christ when he writes to his son Timothy in the faith.

Now unto the King Eternal, immortal and invisible, the only true God, be honour and glory everlasting. Amen. The King Eternal. These are the names that are found in the Word of God concerning our Lord Jesus Christ. He's not an earthly king, he's a heavenly king. He's not a king of time, he is the king of eternity. Unto the king eternal and immortal and invisible, the only true God, be honor and glory everlasting.

Oh Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth, who has set thy glory. above the heavens and there we have it who has set thy glory above the heavens and the psalmist here is speaking of the Lord Jesus Christ the apostle in the epistle to the Ephesians he speaks so there of the third heaven he says I was taken up into the third heaven I saw things that it wasn't possible to express in the authorised version it says I saw things that was not lawful to me to speak and what he means is that the things that he saw in the third heaven were so wonderful the glory of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost in the third heaven so you might say why is it called the third heaven?

The first heaven is the clouds and the atmosphere above us. The second heaven is where all the planets are. And the third heaven is above them all. And that is where God dwells. The heaven of heavens. God dwells in eternity. God is in all places all times. God is a spirit. He's in all places at all times. It's what is known as the omnipresence of God. We read in scripture, Alleluia for the Lord God, omnipotent reign in Revelation chapter 19.

You break the word up, Omni-potent. Potent means power. Omni is a prefix which means universal or complete. So Omni-potent means God has universal and complete power. See in Him we live and move and have our being. He has universal and complete power. Great is the Lord. this infinite God. So when we use the theological term omnipresent it means God has universal and complete presence. God is everywhere.

God is everywhere. We've often spoken to you of the old man that was in coming down to his end, an old man. And he had his little grandson with him in the bedroom where he was. And he was an atheist. And he had a picture above his bed and across it was written, God is nowhere. God is nowhere. Didn't believe in God. God is nowhere. And so he was teaching his little grandson to write. And he said, now you copy down that God is nowhere. And the little grandson, he made a mistake. He put the W of the where on the no. And so when he showed it to his granddad, he said, God is now here.

And you know the Lord used that to convince that old man that there is a God in heaven. And apparently when he read it he began to shake. It was such a realization given to him that there was an eternal God and a realization that he was a holy God and a realization that he must stand at the judgment seat of Jesus Christ. that was the means the Lord used to convert him to become a believer in Jesus Christ. God is now here. Oh Lord our Lord how excellent is thy name in all the earth who has set thy glory above the heavens. See this one God under the Old Testament of the Levitical dispensation.

God mainly, not completely, it was to do with the children of Israel and he was their covenant God and the religion that they followed was as was ordered by God through Moses, the sacrifices and the offerings etc. and by and large it was the Israelites, they were the Lord's chosen people. But in the New Testament even though in the Old Testament God was obviously God everywhere but he chose to have his people, a national people, the children of Israel. He called Abraham out of Ur of the Chaldees and then he called Isaac, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and they developed into a nation and they were the Lord's peculiar and chosen people.

But in the New Testament the emphasis is every nation, kindred, tongue and tribe and people. The command to the apostles was go ye into all the world preaching the gospel unto every creature That was the divine command to the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. And so we see the truth of God spreading out from Jerusalem throughout all the nations of the earth. And the Lord has his people in every nation, and this is scriptural language in the New Testament, every nation, every kindred, every tongue, every tribe, and every people.

The Lord has his chosen people. And he sends his servants forth to preach the gospel. It says in the Corinthians that I've pleased God through the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. It's the principle means that God uses to gather his children. You know we follow our form of worship, we follow what we might say is a Puritan form of worship.

The building doesn't mean anything. The Bible is on the pulpit, central to the worship. The minister is to preach the word. We're not to have rites and sacrifices, etc. Not in the New Testament. And as the Apostle says, we preach Christ crucified. We don't have anything, crosses, etc. Because the word of God is clear, we're not to bow down to things. A New Testament worship is spiritual worship.

God is a spirit and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. We don't need any extra things. All we need is the word and the emphasis and according to the word of God, the exhortation to the Lord's servants, preach the word. preach the word. Oh Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth, who has set thy glory above the heavens.

You know, in the incarnation of the Son of God, we read in the first chapter of John's Gospel, and the word, that is a peculiar name, almost John that he gives to the Son of God. And the Word was made flesh. So the divine person of the Word, why is he called the Word? Because he expresses the mind and will of God. It's all in Christ. And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

And that is where, right through scripture, everything points to the glorious person of our Lord Jesus Christ. From Genesis to Revelation, it points to the glorious person of Jesus Christ. He hath given him a name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow. This glorious name of our Lord Jesus Christ. You know the richest source of prophecies concerning our Lord Jesus Christ is found in the book of Psalms. My mind just goes to Psalm 72. Psalm 72 is a messianic psalm. It speaks of the glorious King, our Lord Jesus Christ.

It says in verse 14, He shall redeem their soul from deceit and violence, and precious shall their blood be in His sight. That's Christ the Redeemer. He shall live, that's Christ the Risen One. He shall live and to Him shall be given the gold of Sheba. Prayer also shall be made for Him continually, and daily shall He be praised. This is the glorious person of Christ. It goes on in verse 17. His name shall endure forever. That's the name of Christ. His name shall endure forever. His name shall be continued as long as the sun and men shall be blessed in him.

All nations shall call him blessed. See it prophesies of New Testament days. All nations shall call him blessed. Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel, who only doeth wondrous things. And blessed be His glorious name forever, and let the whole earth be filled with His glory. Amen and amen. The prayers of David, the son of Jesse, are ended. You see, blessed be His name forever and ever.

O Lord, our Lord, How excellent is thy name in all the earth. And you see, we know today that the gospel of Jesus Christ has spread through all the nations of the earth. It is, through all the nations of the earth. His name, this glorious name, we just sung that very sweet and beautiful hymn, how sweet the name of Jesus sounds in the believers ears. It soothes his sorrows, heals his wounds, and drives away his fears.

That's the name of Jesus. Let us look at the name of Jesus. When the angel was speaking to Joseph and Mary, he said, Thou shalt call his name Jesus, for he shall save his people from their sins. And that is the essential meaning of the name Jesus, what we call a proper name.

He shall save his people from their sins. A saviour, a redeemer. We read in Isaiah, and the Redeemer shall come to Zion. It's a prophecy concerning the coming of Jesus Christ. And the Redeemer shall come to Zion. Come here on earth. to the Church of God. And in the New Testament he comes to the heart of his people.

In the Old Testament there was a temple, that wonderful temple at Jerusalem. A temple is a dwelling place for God. And God's presence was very special in the temple at Jerusalem, in the holiest of all And the Lord had said, there will I meet with thee, there will I commune with thee. That is why it was called a temple, because God dwelt there, Jehovah dwelt there. And when the high priest went in once a year to the holy of holies, God communed with him from off the golden mercy seat. So that was temple worship, because God dwelt there.

And that was considered a holy place. But in the New Testament, we don't have temples, we don't have priests. We have a place of worship, bricks and mortar. And in the New Testament, the Holy Spirit dwells in the hearts of God's people. He dwells in the hearts of God's people. The Apostle says in Corinthians, Know ye not that ye are the temple of the Holy Ghost?

If so, be the Spirit of God dwelleth in you. It's a great question, my beloved friends, for each one of us, isn't it? Does the Spirit of God dwell in you? Has the Spirit of God quickened your soul? Have you been born again of the Spirit? Have you been brought to saving faith in Jesus Christ? the only Saviour of sinners? Have you been brought to feel that you are a sinner and that you need salvation? Jesus said concerning the Spirit of God, when He the Spirit of Truth is come, this is in John 16, when He the Spirit of Truth is come, He will reprove the world of sin, of righteousness, of judgment. It's the divine person of the Spirit of God. And it's not something that's optional. It's something that is vital and necessary. Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

You see my beloved friends, the glorious person of Jesus Christ, the Saviour of sinners. My mind, it just goes to those beautiful words in Isaiah chapter 9. Very well-known words. We usually read them at Christmas time in particular. In Isaiah 9, verses 6 and 7, For unto us a child is born, Unto us a son is given, this is the glorious person of Jesus Christ.

The government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name, his name, shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace. His name, the name of Jesus. O Lord, our Lord, Excellent is thy name in all the earth. You think of what his name shall be called wonderful. Just think of who he is.

Is God manifest in the flesh? That's a wonderful truth in itself, isn't it? It's beyond our comprehension. Great is the mystery of godliness. God was manifest in the flesh. His name shall be called Wonderful. You think of the pure and spotless life that Jesus lived as a man here upon earth.

The Apostle says when he writes to the Galatians that he was made of a woman, made under the law. That means he became a real man. The law was made for man. When the Son of God became a man, He came under the law and he lived under the law. Now you and I, according to what the scriptures clearly teach us that we're born in sin. We're shaped in iniquity. That's how we're born. Because Adam fell, we all fell in Adam. As in Adam all die, it says in Holy Scripture. What's called the fall of man. born in sin, we're shaped in iniquity. We go forth from the womb, I'm quoting here from scripture, we go forth from the womb speaking lies and hypocrisy, that's what we are by nature, we're sinners. We cannot fulfil God's holy righteous law.

But his name, that's the name of Jesus, who we call wonderful, he lived a life that was pure and that was holy. As the Bible says, he did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth. Wonderful, what a wonderful life that Jesus lived. And that perfect obedience of Jesus to the law is called the righteousness of Christ. And that is what the believer in Christ receives. They have no righteousness of their own, But when they come to faith in Jesus Christ, they receive a righteousness. Christ said, accept your righteousness, exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees. You shall in no wise enter the kingdom of heaven. So what does he mean there? Well, we can never produce a righteousness to please God. We're sinners by our very birth.

The Lord Jesus was pure in his birth and pure in his life. He fulfilled and honoured and magnified God's holy law, bringing in everlasting righteousness for his people. So the believer in Christ receives a perfect righteousness. He's the righteous one.

Oh Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth. You see, his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace. That's our Lord Jesus Christ. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end. Upon the throne of David and upon his kingdom to order it and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

Everything is in the glorious person of our Lord Jesus Christ. The righteousness of the believer. You see, if you think of the wonderful, that holy life, that pure and spotless life of Jesus Christ was then offered as a sin-atoning sacrifice unto the Father for the sins of his people. He was wounded for our transgressions. He was bruised for our iniquities. This wonderful name of Jesus Christ. Christ means the Messiah. the Anointed One, the King Eternal. How excellent is thy name in all the earth.

But we need a personal faith in Jesus Christ. Faith isn't just an intellectual thing. Faith is something that is given. It says in Ephesians, faith is the gift of God. We can't produce faith. It has to be given. It's one of those precious graces of the Spirit. Now faith looks alone to Jesus Christ. Faith leads the sinner to Jesus Christ. Faith brings the sinner to behold Jesus Christ. I am the way. truth and the life.

No man cometh unto the Father but by me. It says in Ephesians chapter 2 verse 18, for through him, who the glorious person of our Lord Jesus Christ, for through him we have access by one spirit, that's the Holy Ghost, unto the Father. What a beautiful revelation of the Trinity, for through him That is God manifest in the flesh, our Lord Jesus Christ. We have access by one spirit unto the Father.

Whatsoever ye ask in my name, Jesus said. Whatsoever ye ask in my name, I will do it. I remember being with a family that when they said their grace before their meal, They just said, for whatsoever we receive our Lord, you make us truly thankful, Amen.

And so I pointed out particularly to the children. I said, you've missed something really important. And they said, well, what have we missed in our prayer? I said, we always have to ask for Jesus Christ's sake. And the next time they went, they then said, for what we are about to receive, do make us truly thankful for Jesus Christ's sake. Whatsoever you ask in my name. We can't ask our own name, we're sinners. We're the fallen sons and daughters of Adam. And what the Holy Spirit teaches us is that we have no merit of our own.

But when he brings the poor sinner to faith in Jesus Christ, he finds he's the glorious person. When Jesus suffered and bled and died on the cross of Calvary, it was because the Father laid upon him the iniquity of us all. And that is why he suffered and bled and died. It was for the iniquity of us all. Because our sins were laid upon him.

This glorious Saviour, this almighty Redeemer. It's another name given to Christ, isn't it? It says in the Old Testament, their Redeemer is strong. Why? Because He's the eternal Son of God. Therefore, He's able to save to the uttermost all that come unto God by Him, seeing He ever liveth, to make intercession for us, O Lord, Our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth, who has set thy glory above the heavens.

It says here in verse 4, what is man that thou art mindful of him, or the son of man that thou visitest him? Thou madest him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. Now, no doubt the psalm is there, it is speaking of man in general. how that the Lord set him over the works of his hands. But in the epistle to the Hebrews, the Apostle Paul, he brings up very clearly there how that psalm is speaking of our Lord Jesus Christ. In Hebrews chapter 2, it says But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man that thou art mindful of him, or the son of man that thou visitest him? Thou madest him a little lower than the angels, thou crownest him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the work of thy hands. Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet.

For in that he put all things in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. but now we see not yet all things put under him but we see Jesus who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man for it became him for whom are all things and by whom are all things in bringing many sons unto glory to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. You see, but we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, who became a real, true man. Man was made a little lower than the angels, and the Son of God became a man. He lived a holy life. He offered a holy sacrifice. He died for the sins of his people. He shed his precious blood that taketh away all sin. And he rose from the dead. And he ascended up into heaven.

Who has set thy glory above the heavens. Sitting at the right hand of the Father is this glorious Saviour. This almighty Redeemer. Great High Priest, O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth, who has set thy glory above the heavens. May the Lord add his blessing.

Let us now sing together Hymn number 949, the tune is Hampstead 340.
