Men loved darkness instead of
light, because their deeds were evil. John Chapter 3 Verses 19 and
20 Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead
of light, because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does
evil hates the light and will not come into the light, for
fear that his deeds will be exposed. The unsaved have no desire to
reflect on the works or attributes of God, as they are revealed
in His Word. Hence, they know nothing of Him
as He really is, and the ideas that they do form of God are
grossly erroneous. In their hearts they imagine
Him to be such a One as themselves. If they knew God's power and
majesty, could they thus dare to provoke Him by their hatred
for Him and rebellion against Him? If they beheld God's holiness,
could they account sin to be so trivial a matter? If they
were apprised of God's justice, would they indulge in hopes of
sinning against Him with impunity? If they believed in God's veracity,
would they so disregard His threatenings as mere fantasies? Above all,
if they knew God's mercy, could they so trample on the precious
blood of Jesus that was shed in love for sinners? Ephesians
4, verses 18 and 19. They are darkened in their understanding
and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance
that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. Having lost
all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality
so as to indulge in every kind of impurity with a continual
lust for more. Romans 1, verses 28 and 29. Furthermore, since they did not
think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, He gave
them over to a depraved mind to do what ought not to be done.
They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil,
greed, and depravity. They are full of envy, murder,
strife, deceit, and malice.
