Well, amen. At the name of Jesus, every knee
shall bow and every tongue shall confess. So many times I come
to this pulpit as I do today and am totally overcome and struggling and hopeful that the Spirit of
God will bless you today with this truth. Just a couple of words from the
book of Ephesians, the first chapter and the third verse. I acknowledge to you today I
am over my head, and you may scratch yours when you're leaving
here with regard to what did he say and what is the meaning
of this. Early on in the week, I began
to consider Sunday, the Lord's Day, and what he would have me
say to you. And these two words just began
to ring in my mind and heart. And here they are, bless God. Or maybe it's like this, bless
God. Maybe like that. The apostle
in the third verse. I don't know exactly how to even
read this, but the time he gets to the third verse he's totally
controlled, I believe, by the Spirit of God and overcome by
the goodness of God. Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ,
by the will of God to the saints which are at Ephesus and to the
faithful in Christ Jesus, grace be to you and peace from God
our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ. And then he just
takes off. Blessed be the God and Father
of our Lord Jesus Christ. You ever have those instances
in your life where you just wanna scream? I mean, you wanna shout. You wanna say hallelujah. You
wanna say praise God. My friends, it is only when the
holy heart is full of the flood of the love
of God in Christ, full of gratitude that these two exclamations come
out of us. Sometimes totally overcome, we
only know to say this, bless God! Oh, bless God! The blessed apostle no sooner
opens his mouth, no sooner picks up his pen, than he's off in
a phantasmagorical rush of thanksgiving. Say, pastor, I don't think I've
ever heard that word except from you. I know I made it up. Phantasmagorical. I was reading in scripture once.
where the Apostle Paul seemed to be trying to describe what
it means when God opens your eyes and you really begin to
see this amazing truth that God has loved you, that God does
love you, that there never has been a time when God didn't love
you. And it kind of rushes toward you in enormous size And the only thing you can say
is, bless God. The psalmist said, bless God,
O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name. We will take note this morning
of what inflamed the apostle to pour forth such a flood of
blessing. of God, bless God. I hope you've experienced this.
And if you haven't, I hope you do today as we go over these
passages of scripture. And I would have you note when
you're reading the book of Ephesians, from the first word, Paul begins
the body of this epistle until he gets to verse 15, he is blessing
God. That's totally what he's doing,
blessing God. Now I know some of you are looking
at me like, how on earth do you bless God? I want to try to answer
that because on Monday of this week when I was thinking about
today, I said to myself when these words I think were given
to me by the Spirit of God, how on earth am I going to bless
God? Well, I think we bless God this
way. You see, the gospel is made up
of blessing, right? It's all about blessing. In fact,
the gospel is nothing but blessing, and the gospel is the fullness
of blessing. So let me try to answer what
it is to bless God, and then we'll have our baptismal service. You have heard me say many times
that all good that comes out of you or I, God put in us. And that's very true. And so
you are probably in your mind if you're thinking of that, so
pastor, what does this mean? How do we bless God? We're not
capable of blessing God in the sense of giving God something
of our own, something of our own doing, You don't bless God
by making something and giving it to God. Cain tried that and
got a thumbs down. But there is a way to bless God
in a manner of, listen to me, I think this is so important,
it's so important. There is a way to bless God in
a manner of speaking well to him, to congratulate heartily
the joy that he has and the happiness he has, to brag on him. The acid test of any testimony
of any song is who gets the glory. Today, say, oh, that I could
bless God. Then just start bragging on him
in your mind. Just start bragging on God. how
joyful He is and what a blessing He is. You know, God loves the
amens of His people. He really does. When the preacher
is sounding out the truth and you are going like this, Amen!
You know what Amen means? It means let it be true, or it
is true, or it is so. So when I'm bragging on God,
you say, Amen! And God smiles. You just bless
God. You heartedly bless God. We,
of course, can add nothing to His blessedness, but to joyfully
congratulate Him. Congratulations! You, dear God,
are the author and the finisher of my faith. Congratulations,
God! You began this good work in me,
and I know you'll finish it, and I'm happy about it. Bless
God! That's what ought to happen.
You see, the truth of Scripture is this. We love Him. I can't
hear you. I thought you knew that. Because
He first loved us. Bless God! That ought to be the
reaction to that truth. Bless God. I've got it in my
notes right here. I'm so lost in this. You see,
we bless Him for all the blessedness that is in Him and for Him to
take our amen to His own blessedness. And I wrote that and then I scratched
my head and said, what am I saying? What I'm saying is, this is amazing
grace. That's what I'm saying. Bless
God! Whosoever blesseth Him was first
blessed by Him. If you, I promise you today,
if you can do this, if you can from your heart say, bless God. Oh, bless God. I'm not afraid
of God. I don't think God's out to get
me. Bless God. And I'm gonna give you some reasons
to say that in just a minute. Do you see it? He loves to be
blessed. Isn't that something? Why is
that something to you? God created you for his honor
and for his glory and for his praise. And it, what an awesome
thing it is to be able to bless God. Bless God. Whether you eat or drink or whatsoever
you do, bless God. Amen. The old Puritan said this. I'm gonna have to read it to
you. He blesseth himself in our returns and echoes of blessings
to his blessedness. Huh. I had to read that many
times. Let's see. He blesses himself in our returns
of amen and bless God. He's blessed. We in Him and He
in us might be blessed together forevermore. Amen. I know that's
true. I didn't get that at all, but
later you can get my notes here and take it home and just read
it until it begins to sink in. I'm blessing God and I'm blessed. He's blessing me first and I
bless Him for blessing me first. I say, thank you, Lord, for saving
my soul. Thank you, Lord, for making me
whole. Thank you, Lord, for giving to me salvation so rich and free. Thank you, Lord. I saw some of
you raising your hands. I saw you, and you couldn't take
it anymore. Bless God! That's what you were saying. And you know what? God liked
it. If it was from your heart, your heart was full. You know,
I know for some of you, it's kind of hard to keep your hands
down. You know, you were raised in the Baptist church where you
didn't get too happy. Just kidding, you Baptists who
are here. Been a Baptist most of my life,
so bless God. Why would the apostle get so
stirred up? He said, you know, I'm not much for emotionalism
in church. Oh, I'm very much for it. If you can throw a Pepsi up in
the air and a hot dog up in the air at a Tiger baseball game,
you ought to be able to say, when you find out how God has
blessed you, there ought to be, there's got to be some emotional. He said, well, I'm just not an
emotional person. About some things you are. You may try to
hide it, but there's times when we bless God because we're full. Now, here's what Paul said. Bless God because He has blessed
us with all spiritual blessings. Bless God! Just, you know, Pastor,
I'm kind of afraid. I've relapsed so many times.
You know, I think I know the Lord, but I don't think I can
hold out. Give that up, because you can't.
But greater is He that's in you than he that's in the world.
Bless God! Do you know there are people
sitting in here right now, no matter what your age, no matter
your background, that God has in his warehouse blessings stored
up for you that as yet you have not received. Do you know that?
There's blessings headed your way. Watch me, don't watch the
table. The devil's trying to get you
off of this. Be still everybody and say this. I want you to practice a little
bit. Let's just do it. Bless God. That's what I'm talking
about. Bless God because you see, you
don't know about tomorrow, but we know who holds tomorrow. And
he has a warehouse full of blessings for you. If you're a Christian,
you're not a pauper. You're rich. It's all yours. Bless God. Verse 4 says, Bless
God because He has chosen us in Christ before the foundation
of the world. Wow! I'm talking about you, heroin
addict, that has come to know Christ. He chose you before the
foundation of the world. Think about all your mess. You
don't have to be a drug addict to be a mess. I mean, this preacher's
a mess. I know who holds me though. Bless
God. Bless God. I hear crazy things
all week. The deacon ran off with somebody. The preacher ran off with somebody.
People are running off. People doing all kinds of things. I'm glad God's in control, aren't
you? I am glad and I rejoice in this. Election is true, you
see. Election is true, that God actually
chose a number that no man will ever be able to number as the
sands by the seashore, if you'd try to take each little piece
of sand and count it, you wouldn't have the number that's gonna
be in heaven, that God chose and determined to be saved and
brought to salvation in Christ and to enjoy the heavenlies.
What should we say? Bless God! That's what we ought
to say. Well, you know, that doctrine
of election was hatched in hell. Why would God just, you know,
Clark over there just believes God's going to save a little
handful. It depends on whose hand you're
talking about. I'm talking about the Creator's
hands. No man is able to pluck them
out of my Father's hand. My Father which gave to me is
greater than everything and everybody. And so I'm safe. Even in my craziness,
He's got me. In my wanderings, He's got me.
In my relapse, He's got me. I said, well, what are you doing? You're gonna have half your congregation
relapsing now because you just gave them a ticket. I didn't
give you a ticket. In fact, this is what's so true. God will ruin your dough pies. I know that there are people
in here that can testify. You know, I was out there in
the crack house and I was doing my best to get high. I mean,
I've done it before and got high, but all the time I was trying
to get high, I was thinking I've sinned against God. I've sinned
against, I've let my mother and father, I've let people down.
Oh, oh, you see, you wouldn't be talking like that were it
not the spirit of God in you. That's so true. Bless God because he's chosen
us. Well, that's before the foundation of the world. Just go back before
God said, let there be light, before the first dew worked its
way to this earth, before the milky way was flung, before you
were formed in your mother's belly. We're bound to give thanks
to God for you, brethren, beloved of the Lord, because God, from
the beginning, has chosen you to salvation. bless God, chosen. People fight over the doctrine
of election. It's not something to fight over.
It's something sure, something solid, something that's not in
your hands, but God's hands, and we give Him glory. People say to me quite often,
I know you believe in election. Why would God choose some and
not others? My question is, why would God
choose anybody? Jacob have I loved. That is a
mystery to me. He was a crook. Esau have I hated. If he was looking for the better
person, that would be Esau. But God saves depraved, wretched
sinners. He chooses the nobodies of this
world to take to glory. I like this too. No wonder Paul
said, bless God, because he's chosen us to make sure that we're
going to be holy. You know, one day, you know,
God sees me that way, I'm guiltless. I hear preachers say all the
time, you're going to have to face God and give an account. I hope
because I don't have anything to give God. You see, he's already accepted
the payment Christ made. There is no condemnation to those
that are in Christ Jesus. I'm not going to go before the
judgment seat and face God. When I was growing up in our
church, they used to tell me this, that you're gonna have
to stand before God, even though you're saved, and give an account
of the deeds done in the body. And they'd quote the verse in
Corinthians. You'll have to study that verse sometime on your own
to get the real meaning of that. But I'll tell you what, if you
have to stand before God and give an account of something
bad, you have to give an account for sin. I wanna tell you this,
Jesus paid it all. All the dead I owe, sin had left
a crimson stain. And nobody in here, if you let
your mind go back, you can see a whole lot of mess in your life. How would you like to have to
give an account before God for that? Not me. I used to hear those scary stories
about God's going to pull out his big movie camera and he started
taking movie pictures of you when you got saved and everything
you've ever done since you got saved, God's going to show up
on the big screen in heaven and he's going to judge you whether
it's good or bad. Bad, bad, bad. I just want to, you know, the
old leper, the person with leprosy used to cry this out in the Old
Testament, unclean, unclean, unclean. I want to tell you,
I'm only a sinner saved by the grace of God, but bless God,
I am saved and I am heaven bound. Well, let me move on here. Okay,
that we should be holy. You see, I have an imputed righteousness.
Christ worked out a robe of righteousness that fits me. It's a perfect
fit. I said to Miss Pam this morning,
you know, this can't be Sunday morning. I'm putting on jeans.
This doesn't seem right. Well, it'll be all right in heaven.
Anyway, that's just me. But I have a perfect righteousness
in Christ. He came down here and kept the
law for me. Every jot and every tittle. He was not a lawbreaker.
That righteousness of law keeping has been imputed to me. And then
he went up on Calvary and he paid my debt. Paid it in full. Took my unrighteousness upon
himself. And then he said, it is finished. And what do I say? Bless God. All right, that we should be
holy. And without blame. that we should be holy. Verse
4 says that He has chosen us to be holy and without blame. Oh, you deserve to be blamed because
you did it, but He's not going to blame you. In fact, the Bible
talks about 1 John says that we may have boldness in the day
of judgment. I would just like to bypass the
judgment. I'm not going there to judge. I've already been judged in Jesus
Christ, and I'm holy and without blame. Say, but you still mess
up. Absolutely. Oh, wretched man
that I am. Who shall deliver me from the
body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ. There is therefore now no condemnation
to those that are in Christ Jesus." Hey, how am I preaching today?
I'm telling you the truth. Oh, here's another one. Not only
am I holy and without blame and I've been chosen, But verse 5
said, I've been predestinated. Oh, there's that word, predestination. What a glorious word. God says
this, in your flesh dwells no good thing, but I predestinated
you. Doesn't that give you a cozy
feeling? Don't you just want to say about predestination,
bless God? I've had preachers tell me the
doctrine of predestination and electing was hatched in hell.
Oh, no, no, no, no. The doctrine of election and
predestination is a God thing. So, bless God. For whom He did before love,
He also did predestinate. And whom He predestinated, them
He also called. And whom He called, them He also
justified. And whom He justified, them He
also glorified. You and I aren't even mentioning
that. It looks like He's doing all the work. He's the one that
before loved us. He's the one that predestinated
us. He's the one that called us. He's the one that justifies
us. And He's the one that glorifies
us. So what should we say? Bless God. That's exactly right. Bless God. Bless God. I'm not an orphan. Ephesians
1 says that I've been adopted. I'm in the family. I'm a child
of God. I'm a friend of God. I'm in the
will. All things are mine. It's all
mine. I'm more than a conqueror. in
Christ who loved me and gave himself for me. I've been adopted. So what should I say? Bless God. And then verse 5 says that all
of these things happened according to the good pleasure of His will.
Just think about that. It was His will. Some of you
think you're here by accident, but not so. Not so. You're here on purpose. Some
of you think you're here, the main reason for you being here
is you're going to see your kid baptized, but not so. God's using your kids that went
astray to get you under the gospel to save you by His sovereign
grace. Bless God. And then verse six says that
we've been saved to the praise of the glory of His grace. That's
why I'm always talking about grace. That's why every Sunday
I preach, I talk about the grace of God and what's supposed to
happen and I actually see it happen is your pastor, I listen
to you talk. Grow in grace, the Apostle Peter
said, grow in grace. You see, grace doesn't grow,
but you can grow in it. He said, well, pastor, do you
know what? I have never heard a preacher
preach on election predestination until today. Oh, you're growing. To think that God, some of you
in here are like this, I never heard that God has always loved
me. That God has loved me with an everlasting love and in tender
kindness has drawn me. I never heard that. But as you
were preaching today, I just, I wanted to bless God. But I didn't do that. But in
your heart, you're doing it. You know what, I've been accepted
in the beloved, verse six says. I'm accepted. Some of you wanna
be accepted so bad, you do all kinds of stupid stuff to try
to get somebody to accept you. You're already accepted by God
in Jesus Christ. You are accepted in the beloved. The worst about you or the best
about you has nothing to do with your salvation, nothing. God
didn't say, oh, there is a gem right there. In fact, the scripture
says that God looked down from heaven upon the children of men
to see if there were any good, and he said, no, not one, not
a one. I'm accepted in Jesus Christ.
Here's an amazing thing, God, Sin is the only begotten Son
into the world. What should I say? Bless God. You see, God thought of this. This is the thought of God. This
is the purpose of God. that His only begotten Son should
come into the world, not to try to save us, not to give us a
prescription, but His name shall be called Jesus, for He shall
save His people from their sins. So what do I say? Bless God. Bless God. I'm accepted. And then verse 7 says, I've been
redeemed. No wonder Paul goes nuts. No
wonder he says, I mean, all of these thoughts, some of you have
never preached or had maybe a public platform like this, but sometimes
when I am up here, some of you, many of you in here do know what
a rush is. I thought you'd know that word.
Well, sometimes when I'm up here, I experience a rush. I believe
it's a Holy Spirit rush. I began to preach to you seemingly,
and before I know it, I'm receiving what the Holy Spirit is giving
me, and I have a rush. It's like kicking into high gear.
Bless God. I've been redeemed. I've been
bought out of the slave market of sin. He will and does break
every chain of condemnation. I am not a slave to sin. If the Son sets you free, you're
free indeed. You're free from condemnation.
You're free from judgment. And you need to enter into that
where you're blessing God. If you want to get thrown out
of the drug man's place, just start saying, bless God. Bless
God. It won't be long until you need
to move along. I've been redeemed. Verse 7 says,
Bless God, all my sins are forgiven. Verse 11 says, I have an inheritance. Bless God. And then from verse
18 on through to 10, the Apostle Paul begins to talk about, I
want you to know how magnificent this is. What an awesome thing
this matter of salvation is. Look at verse 18. The eyes of
your understanding being enlightened that you may know what is the
hope of his calling, what the riches of the glory of his inheritance
is in the saints, and what is his exceeding greatness of his
power to us who believe according to the working of his mighty
power. You know, he made a believer
out of me. Did He make a believer out of
you? It took the very power of God to make you a believer. Some
of you in here are half asleep. You got your eyes closed. I see
you. You know what? You're bored. You're not excited
about this at all, but when the Spirit of God comes and He regenerates,
He gives life, and it is an awesome wonder when He comes to your
tomb, where you are locked up by the power of sin, and this
world wandering around, and how awesome it is, to be here at
Grace Gospel Fellowship, and watch the heroin addict come
in, and the crack addict, and watch the street walkers, and
all of you religious folks who've been to every kind of church,
and for God to regenerate you, to born you again, to give you
life, where you were locked up. My chains are gone. I've been
set free. That's what we sing. Look at chapter two, verse one,
and I'm almost through here. Verse one, and you hath he made
alive who were dead. Dead men can't do too much. You
know, if we had a dead person in a casket up here and we say,
I want to tell you $125 million, you won the lotto. One stipulation. Mr. Dead Person. I just want
you to wiggle your little finger. And it's all yours. Just one
little condition. Oh, I'm getting one of those
highs right now. Thank God He didn't put a stipulation
of what you had to do in order to be saved. Thank God. Thank God. Not even move your
little finger. God walked up to your tomb and said, live! And you know what happened? You
came out of the tomb alive. Oh, you were bound up. Lazarus
was bound up when he came out of the tomb, bound from head
to foot. There was heroin and there was
crack, there was pornography, there was women, there was all
kinds of self-righteousness. You were all bound up. And then
Jesus said, loose him and let him go. That's what I'm trying
to do today. I'm trying to loose those of
you that God has given life where you say, bless God, bless God. All right, real quick. Here in
the second chapter, wherein in times past you walked according
to the course of this world, according to the prince of power
of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience,
verse three, among whom also we all had our conversation,
our manner of life in times past, in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling
the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature
the children of wrath, even as others, but God, bless God, God
intervened. You were on your way to hell,
but you got apprehended. The blue light came on behind
you. You got arrested by God Himself. I'm going to tell you
this, God has to be a faster runner than you. God caught up
with you. and gave you life. But God, who
is rich in mercy for his great love, wherewith he loved us,
even when we were dead, has quickened us together with Christ, and
hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly
places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come he might
show the exceeding riches of his grace. Oh, there's a bunch
of Calvinists in here who think they know something about grace,
but you, nor I, nor all the Calvinists in the world know the fullness
of the grace of God. It's going to take an eternity
for you and I to learn how gracious, how unmerited was our salvation. How many of you should have been
dead a long time ago? But were it not for the grace
of God who sought you out of your Lodibar, and saved you by
his grace. And Paul gives us this verse
8 that so many people quote but don't believe. For by grace are
you saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it's
the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast. And
look at verse 10, for we are his workmanship. were his workmanship,
created in Christ Jesus. You were created. You know, it
takes a creator to create. You had nothing to do with it.
You supplied nothing. You are a new creature, having
been created by God. And I know what some of you are
thinking. You're saying, well, it sounds like you're saying
that God just does it all. Bless God, you're right! That's what I'm saying, that
he does it all. Now, I want us to sing amazing
grace, is that all right? I knew it, he knew it. Let's
stand together, we're gonna sing amazing grace and when you sing
your chains are gone and your heart is filled, just praise
the Lord, amen. We're going to let the ladies
and guys prepare to be, those of you who want to profess faith
in Christ in the waters of baptism, prepare for that. I'm ready.
All I have to do is take off my coat. You guys who are church
leaders, if you'll come forward, you can help us up here. Water
is hot. This is more like the other place.
It's very warm water. But what we're doing is picturing
that you have trusted the Christ who died, was buried, and rose
again, and you want the world to know it, that you're trusting
him, that you're a disciple of Jesus Christ, and you're not
ashamed of it. So we'll begin with our women
first. I think there's some couples that want to Don't shake your
head, Luke. I know you do. But let's begin
with our ladies first, and we'll try to hook you up. All right. Right here. And can
you tell us your name before you get in this warm water? Terri.
Terri. I'm glad to have you. You're trusting Christ and Him
alone, and not the water. You can kick your shoes over
there. I forgot my name. It's awesome. Let's help you, and there's a
step here. There you go. And Elder, yeah, one more. Elder
Joe Atwell is helping, helping me here. Turn around this way,
this way, there you go. All right, now hold your, hold
your wrist just that way. Dropper, you can help me. Just kidding. Upon your profession of faith
in the Lord Jesus Christ, I now baptize you, my sister, in the
name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Closer where you can see. You
can stand in the aisle there or up in the balcony. All right, your name and address.
Terry Lynn. Upon your profession of faith,
sister, I now baptize you in the name of the Father, the Son,
and the Holy Spirit. All right, you want to give us
your name and anything you want to? Lindsey Pisecki and I'm just
grateful that God loves me. That's a blessed God. Upon your profession of faith
in the Lord Jesus Christ, I now baptize you, my sister, in the
name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
In Jesus' name. Katherine Huss. Katherine, what
do you think you want to say? No. Okay. That would be me. I would be like that. Upon your profession of faith,
sister, I now baptize you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ,
in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Angela. Angela. Upon your profession of faith
in the Lord Jesus Christ, I now baptize you, my sister, in the
name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Mara. Mara, upon your profession of
faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, I now baptize you in the name
of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen. On your profession of faith in
the Lord Jesus Christ. I now baptize you, my sister,
in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Lisa. Upon your profession of
faith, sister, in the Lord Jesus Christ, I now baptize you in
the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. You know, we're all laughing,
but these two have something going legally. I mean, I'm okay
with it. Miss Pam, I think, is okay. Miss
Pam's not okay with it, but I'm okay with it. I'm the CEO, so. I do know this, two people who
know the Lord, two people who love the Lord, two people who
put Him first and have a great life, if you do it that way.
I know that. All of you know He's got to get
baptized first. You can't get in. I know. I want
you to stay right there. I want you to stay right there.
No, no, no. You're good? All right. All right. This is a most serious time.
You know heaven is watching this, right? A public declaration of

Kent Clark
About Kent Clark
Kent Ward Clark is the Senior Pastor of Grace Gospel Fellowship and Chief Executive Officer of Grace Centers of Hope, (www.gracecentersofhope.org) Oakland County, Michigan’s oldest and largest homeless shelter for 20 years. Over the years, his vision and leadership has transformed the ministry of Grace Centers of Hope into one of Southeastern, Michigan’s leading faith-based institutions. Pastor Clark is widely known as a speaker at Sovereign Grace conferences around the country. The Pastor’s preaching style and theological content remind us of the immortal John Bunyan. Pastor Clark believes the Lord God himself has ordained two institutions as the building blocks of a solid society. One is the “Family” and the other is the “Local Church”, founded upon the Lord Jesus Christ himself. Pastor Clark has seen the power of true assurance of salvation transform lives from despair to victory! Pastor Clark was born in Lowes, Kentucky. He has been married to Dr. Pam Clark for 36 years and they have two daughters, Shannon and Amber, who proudly serve alongside their parents at Grace Centers of Hope. Pastor Clark can be heard on the radio every morning on WMUZ, 103.5 FM, at 7:45 am and 8:45 am. He is also available to speak at various churches, conferences, and other special events.
