The honor is all mine. I feel
very humbled to be asked to ever stand to speak in another man's
pulpit and preach to his people. I know there are God's people,
and I feel humbled to be where I am, where the Lord has put
me. I guess you can tell, as some
say, that I have an accent. I knew I was in bad shape when
me and Sandy moved to West Virginia and I go to Walmart and some
man makes fun of my speech. She can't help it. What a delight to be with God's
people. Thank you for that devotion. Bless my heart. It's amazing
how the Lord Jesus Christ enables his people to see him. And when
you see him, you see his glory. You see his glory. They said,
we beheld his glory. You say, describe that. I can't,
and you can't explain it. The only way you know if you's
ever saw him. Like you said, it's not seeing
a doctrine. I lived that life. It is a person, the Lord Jesus
Christ. Well, let's turn in our Bibles
tonight to Luke chapter 13. Luke chapter 13, beginning in
verse 1. It says, there were present at that
season some that told him or told our Lord of the Galileans
whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. I don't
know when this happened, but this must have been a horrible
event when Pilate would take these people who must have been
worshiping God and slain them and mix their blood with their
sacrifices. And they asked our Lord this
question. They told him this event whenever
it happened. And Jesus answered and said unto
them, you know, men always want to ask about somebody else, about
what about these people? And Jesus answering and said
unto them, suppose ye, that these Galileans were sinners above
all the Galileans, because they suffered such things or perished
in such a way, that what they were asking said, well, they
must have been real bad sinners to have died that way, for God
to punish them this way, to even use Pilate. But he says, I tell
you nay, except you repent, you will all likewise perish. Then he asked them, he said,
or those 18 upon whom the power of Siloam fell, these 18 people,
and slew them, do you think that they were sinners above all men
that dwell in Jerusalem? Do you see what's going on here?
Do you suppose they were worse sinners? I tell you nay, and
I tell me, and I tell all of us tonight, except we repent. we will all likewise perish. That's what he's saying here.
That's what he's saying here. Here our Lord is laying down
the universal necessity of repentance. Except you repent, except I repent,
we will perish. When John the Baptist, that forerunner
of the Lord Jesus Christ, the one that was filled with the
Holy Spirit from his mother's womb, as he came forth preaching,
here's what he preached. In the wilderness of Judea, repent
ye, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Repent ye, for the
kingdom of heaven is at hand. When our Lord Jesus Christ came
preaching, Says, now after that John was put in prison, cried
Jesus came unto Galilee preaching the gospel of the kingdom of
God and saying, the time is fulfilled and the kingdom of God is at
hand. It's standing right in front
of you. And here's what he said, repent ye and believe the gospel. Here's what John preached, our
Lord Jesus Christ preached the same message. And after our Lord
paid our sin debt, ascended back up on high and told the disciples
that you tarry in Jerusalem until you be endued with power from
on high, Peter stands up and preaches to these people who
only 50 days earlier, that mob that cried, crucify him, crucify
him. And you know what he stands up
and preaches? Here's what he preached. Therefore let all the
house of Israel know assuredly that God hath made that same
Jesus whom you hath crucified, both Lord and Christ. Now when they heard this, they
were pricked in their hearts and they said unto Peter and
to the rest of the apostles, men and brethren, what in the
world shall we do? Peter said, okay, come on up
here and come to the front of the church and let's me see if
I can't get you to give your heart to Jesus. That ain't what
he said. Peter said unto them, to these
people, repent and be baptized every one of you in the name
of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins. Repentance and we still
preach the same message except you repent, you'll perish. What did Paul preach in Acts
chapter 20 when he was talking to those Ephesian elders? Says, and when they were come
to him, he said unto them, you know that from the first day
that I came unto you into Asia, after what manner I have been
among you at all seasons, serving the Lord with all humility of
mind and with many tears and temptations, which befell me
by the lying and weight of the Jews, and how I kept back nothing
that was profitable unto you, but showed you and have taught
you publicly and from house to house, testifying both to the
Jews And to the Greeks, he preached the same message to both people.
And what did he say? Repentance toward God and faith
toward the Lord Jesus Christ. Repentance and faith go together. Someone said it's like a piece
of paper with two sides. If there is repentance, there
is God-given faith. And where there is God-given
faith, there's gonna be repentance. You can't separate them. Repentance
toward God and faith toward the Lord Jesus Christ. What is repentance? I say the Lord says to us and
he preached repentance and all his preachers have always preached
repentance. Well, what is repentance? What
does this mean? In the Old Testament it was a
turning. Jeremiah 31, 18, he says, I have
surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself thus. Thou hast chastened
me, and I was chastened as a bullock, unaccustomed to the yoke. Turn
thou me, and I shall be turned, for thou art the Lord my God. If I'm gonna be turned, you've
got to turn me. Turn thou me, and I shall be
turned. In the New Testament, someone said that it is a radical,
radical change of mind. What do you mean a radical change
of mind? It changes the way a man thinks. Man has this image, he
thinks this is how that I can be accepted before God and God's
got to change your thinking. Men think that he can recommend
himself to God by something that he does, and by something that
he performs, or something that he feels. And God, he does change
it. He must change it. This is a work of the Father,
the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Listen to what it says in 2 Timothy
chapter 2 verse 25. Paul instructing young Timothy. He says, in meekness, instructing
those that oppose themselves, if peradventure, perhaps God
will give them repentance until the acknowledging of the truth.
So repentance is something that God gives. He must give it. He must give
it. Now listen. Ezekiel 36, 24, and
I will take you from among the heathen and gather you out of
all countries and will bring you into your own land and I
will sprinkle you with clean water and you shall be clean
from all your filthiness and from all your idols and I will
cleanse you. And here it is, now listen. A
new heart also will I give you. You wanna know what repentance
is? There it is. Simple and plain. It's when God
Almighty gives a sinner a new heart. None of this, won't you give
your heart to Jesus? What does he want with it? He's
got to give you a new heart. A new spirit will I put within
you and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh
and I will give you a heart of flesh. That's the new birth. That's the new birth. That's
what I've got to have. That's what you must have or
you'll never repent. But I can tell you this, if he
ever gives you a new heart, you'll repent. Will your thinking change? Oh yes, it'll change. 180 degrees. I thought, I thought,
I actually, now listen to me, I actually thought that if I
come up in front of a church and if I said a prayer and if
I got baptized, that was repentance. Isn't that what most people think?
Isn't it? And we could give them any other
list. That's not repentance. It's when God Almighty, in his
grace and mercy, gives you a new heart, a new nature. This one says in Acts 5.31 about
the son must also give repentance. Him hath God exalted with his
right hand to be a prince and a savior for to give repentance
to Israel and forgiveness of sins. He's got to give it. You know how he can give it?
He worked it out by his obedience to the Father. He gives repentance. then the
Spirit of God must apply what the Son of God did to your heart. When the Spirit of God has come,
he will reprove the world of sin. What was that? When the Spirit of God has come,
he will reprove, he will convict, he will convince the world of
sin. You didn't know what sin was.
I didn't know what sin was till God convinced you of it. It's
what you are. It's who you are. How do you
know that? I've been convinced. We must be taught. We must be
taught what sin really is. Listen to Zechariah chapter 12
verse 10, listen. I will pour upon the house of
David and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem the spirit of grace
and supplication and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced. They shall what? When he pours
out the spirit of grace and the spirit of supplication, they
shall look upon me. You want to see what sin is?
Look what sin caused. When it was laid upon the Lord
Jesus Christ and he was made sin for us, who knew no sin?
When he was bruised for our iniquities, he said, they will look upon
me whom they have pierced. Who pierced him? We all did.
We all were standing in that mob that day, and we all cried,
crucify him, crucify him. And you see what our sins did?
Who pierced him? I know the father bruised him.
We all had a hand in it. And you know what? You see that.
You see it by the eye of faith. And when you see that, and they
shall mourn. for him. You mean I did that? You mean
I did that? Yes, I did. As one that mourneth for his
own son, and he shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness
for his firstborn. When you ever see your sin, you'll
mourn over it. Mourn over it. Blessed are they that mourn,
for they shall be comforted. And when you mourn over your
sin, I'm talking about mourn over it. You can't get away from
it. You lay down and sleep and it
still haunts you. Why, it's sin. How am I to deal with this thing
called sin that will cause us to confess
our sin, that our sin is against God? David said, when Nathan came
to him, David had went on for some time. And God sent Nathan
to him and Nathan pointed out his what? His sin. And David
said, my sin is ever before me. Everywhere I go, I see my sin
and it is against God. Yes, David sinned against Bathsheba.
He sinned against the nation of Israel. But the main thing
was he saw it and understood that his sin was against God. What did Paul say? Repentance
toward God and faith toward the Lord Jesus Christ. The Spirit
of God will reveal the true nature of sin. It will show you the
filth of sin that it defiled your whole being. And you know what? He'll also show
you Here's the grace. He'll show
you forgiveness of sin. That it's not something you earn.
It's something that Christ purchased. And you see him. Yes, I did that,
but you do you mean to tell me that he did that for me? That
he bore my sin? He's a prince and the Savior
to give repentance. It's his to give. It's his. It's
His. You don't get it or find it any
other way. It's in His hands. It's not in
the preacher's hand. It's not in the Pope's hand.
It's not in anybody else's hands. It's in His to give. Till this is done, men will keep
on trying to do something in the flesh to please God and to
earn His forgiveness. That's why things are going on
like they are in the world today. Till God does a word, they're
going to keep on playing games. And they call it repentance. And that's the next point, what
repentance is not. Listen, Paul said in 2 Corinthians,
if you want to turn to chapter 7, Remember the first letter that
Paul wrote to the Corinthians, they were all these issues, and
Paul wrote on the letter by the Spirit of God, and it did its
work. He said in verse 9 of 2 Corinthians
7, now I rejoice not that you were made sorry, but that you
sorrowed to repentance. For you were made sorry after
a godly manner, that you might receive damage by us in nothing.
For godly sorrow works repentance to salvation not to be repented
of. We'll look at that in a second, but I want you to see now, but
the next part it says, but the sorrow of the world worketh death. What is that? That is just sorrow,
it is just remorse. And you know why people feel
remorse? They really feel remorse when they get caught. Doesn't
that describe us? I wouldn't want nobody to even
know half of what I thought today, would you? When we get caught, what we feel,
we feel sorrowful. And that's nothing but the sorrow
of the world, which works death. has nothing to do with repentance
toward God. Notice it says, it worketh death.
This is not repentance. This is just a fear of punishment.
This is just a fear of not wanting to go to hell. I've told this and y'all never
met me much, so I'm gonna tell it to you. I know what it's like
to be raised in religion from the time I was probably big enough
to be carried to church. My mother took me and we were
raised in free will religion. I remember they put a play on,
it was called, I Dreamed I Searched Heaven for You, and this man's
dressed up like the devil. And they are flat, scaring children
to death. I don't want to go to hell and
he's back there like he's grabbing kids and dragging them into hell
and scaring me to death. They said, you want to be saved?
And I'm going. And they said, all you have to
do is this right here. If you say this little prayer,
you repeat after me. And I did exactly what I was
told to do. They said, you're saved. And
you don't have to worry or fear hell anymore. And I did that more than one
time. I did it even when I was an adult. The sorrow of the world. I really
didn't want to go to hell. I don't know anybody who wants
to go to hell now, do you? But it's more than that. There's many examples. I want
to show you some of those in the scriptures of false repentance. And I thought this was kindly
ironic when I typed in the word, not sin, but when I typed in
the word sinned, S-I-N-N-E-D, the first time this is found
in the scriptures is found here in Exodus chapter 9 verse 27
when speaking about Pharaoh. Remember, you're talking about
Moses seeing God's glory. The children of Israel were in
Egypt, and God sent plague after plague after plague upon the
nation of Egypt. And he said, would you let my
people go? And he said, I'm not letting
them go. I think that I might be wrong.
I think there was 10 plagues and all that God sent upon those
people. Pharaoh said, I won't let them
go. And here's what he said in verse 27. And Pharaoh sent, now
watch this, Pharaoh sent and called Moses and Aaron. He didn't
say that Moses called him, Pharaoh called for them. And he said
unto them, I have sinned this time. Here's a man saying, I've sinned
this time. The Lord is righteous, and I
and my people are wicked. Now doesn't that sound like a
pretty good confession? Now doesn't it? Here's this man saying, he
said, I've sinned this time, the Lord, now that's Jehovah,
is righteous, and my people are wicked. This is why this is all
coming upon us. Well, God must be working repentance
in this man, hold on now. Look in verse 34. And when Pharaoh
saw that the rain and the hail and the thunder were ceased,
he sinned yet more and hardened his heart, he and his servants. He was scared to death as long
as that hail was hitting his roof and as long as the thunder, but
when the rain stopped and there's no more thunder, and there's
no more hell, let's go right back to doing what we were doing. That's nothing but worldly sorrow,
not repentance. His confession did not rise from
a true sense and hatred for sin. He was just afraid of God's judgment. You remember another one, Judas. You think about this. Judas was
with our Lord. Judas saw our Lord do miracles. We can't even imagine what all
that he witnessed. And our Lord said it would have
been better for that man if he had never been born. Judas sold our Lord for 30 pieces
of silver. It says when Judas had betrayed
him, our Lord, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself
and brought again the 30 pieces of silver to the chief priest
and elders. Why did he bring them back the
money? He can't live with his conscience. That's why. He knows
what he's done. He realizes it. He say, and you
know what he said? I have sinned. And that I have
betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, what is that to
us? See thou to that. And he cast down the pieces of
silver in the temple and departed and went and hanged himself. He couldn't live with himself. And went out and faced a holy
God. So we have Pharaoh, we have Judas,
and then we have a man named Esau. Esau was the firstborn. Esau, the birthright by birth,
it should have been his. And he thought he should have
it. Even Isaac thought he should
have it. And listen, this is what it says
in the book of Hebrews. As Esau, who for one morsel of
meat, sold his birthright. For you know how that afterward,
when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected,
for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully
with tears. He sought it. carefully with
tears." Listen, now the blessing that Esau saw, you know what
it was? It was an earthly blessing. He did not seek Christ. When
he despised his birthright, he's despising the firstborn. He's
despising the Lord Jesus Christ. That's what he's doing. That's
what he sold. He comes in one day, and he's
a little hungry, and Jacob said, now Jacob knew the significance,
I believe, of the birthright. I believe his mama told him.
God told Rebecca, Jacob, have I loved, and Esau, have I hated.
He said, sell me your birthright. He said, what good's it gonna
do me if I'm gonna be dead? Just give me a bowl of them beans
and he, he sold it to him. He says he despised it. You know
what it is to despise something? Just despised it. He despised Christ, that's what
he did. Later on, we don't know how old
these boys are and Isaac thinks he's getting ready to die and
he said, Esau, go get me some of that venison that I love so
much. So Esau, he gets his bow or whatever
it was, and while he's gone out to get deer, Rebekah says, Jacob,
you disguise yourself. You look just like the firstborn.
You put on the skins of the firstborn. You smell like the firstborn.
And when you go in there to Isaac, you'll be blessed as the firstborn. Because Isaac thinks that it's
Esau. And you know what he did? He
blessed Jacob. He blessed him. The way I picture
this in my mind, I see about time Jacob hadn't much more and
got out of the room. Well, here comes Esau. Esau's got the savory
meat. He comes to his daddy and he
said, daddy, here I am. Isaac said, who are you? I've done blessed you. Esau says,
no you ain't, you didn't bless me. And Isaac knows what he's
done. And Esau knows what's done. Can
you imagine how he feels? And it says in Genesis 27, 34,
and when Esau heard the word of his father, he cried with
a great exceeding bitter cry and said unto his father, bless
me also, my father. He felt bad because of what he'd
lost. Just an earthly blessing, not
the spiritual blessing. And he was rejected. Now listen,
to me, this is sobering. He was rejected, though he sought
repentance carefully with tears. Don't you think that's sobering?
I think it is. What's that saying, preacher?
That's saying, you be careful how you despise the Lord Jesus
Christ. Don't make light of him. People today think that by their
bitter cries, that they can change God's mind. I can see him getting
down on his knees, just grabbing his daddy, saying, oh daddy,
give me the blessing. It's too late. It's too late. The blessing is Jacob's. They tried to persuade God to
do what they want. He felt bad and he knew it. Let me give you one more example.
So we have Pharaoh, Judas, Esau. There's a man named King Saul, the first king of Israel, the
people's choice. And Samuel, God's prophet, told
Saul, before you go into battle, you wait for me to come. And
I'm going to offer the sacrifice before you go into battle. I'm
going to make the atonement. Were they getting ready to go
into battle? And I can see the soldier saying, well, Saul, where's
Samuel at? We got to go into battle. We
can't wait on Samuel any longer. And Saul's just scared to death.
So you know what he does? He takes it upon himself. to
offer the sacrifice. You know what he's saying by
doing that? I don't need a mediator. I'm my own mediator. That's what
he's saying. That's what he's saying. Samuel's
not there. You can't offer a sacrifice without
the priest. You've got to have the priest.
Well, about the time Saul gets through offering this sacrifice,
here comes Samuel. Samuel said, what have you done,
Saul? I believe Samuel knows what he's
done. He ain't asking this for his information, he's asking
this for Saul's information. Here's what Saul said in 1 Samuel
15 verse 24. And Saul said unto Samuel, I
have sinned. For I have transgressed the commandment
of the Lord in thy words because I feared the people and obeyed
their voice. You better fear God above men. I've seen people do things just
because they were pressured by their family. And here Saul keeps speaking.
And he said, I obeyed their voice. Now, therefore, I pray thee,
pardon my sin and turn again with me that I may worship the
Lord. This man, he's so religious. He doesn't realize what he's
done, but he says, I've sinned. But Samuel said unto Saul, I
will not return with thee. For thou hast rejected the word
of the Lord and the Lord hath rejected thee from being king
over Israel. And God has always rejected that
first king. That is the works of your flesh. That's what that king represents.
And that king always hated God's chosen king, who is David. He
never ceased, never ceased. And as Samuel turned away, turned
about to go away, Saul laid hold upon the skirt of his mantle
and it rent. And Samuel said unto him, The
Lord hath rent the kingdom of Israel from thee this day, and
hath given it unto a neighbor of thine that is better than
thou. And watch this, and also the
strength of Israel will not lie nor repent. For God is not a
man that he should repent. Men think that they can get God
and persuade God to change his mind. It's your mind the one
that needs changing. Isn't it? So that's false repentance. It's just a worldly remorse. False repentance is that which
springs from a sorrow for the consequences of sin, not the
cause of sin. Why do I sin and why do you sin? I'll tell you why. It's because
of who you are. and you've got to feel mournful. God must make you to see your
sin, and when you see it, you'll mourn it. The evidences of true repentance. It is a radical change of a man's
total being. about how he is accepted before
God. Godly sorrow works repentance
to salvation, not to be repented of, but the sorrow of the world
worketh death. For behold this self, same thing,
that you sorrowed after a godly sorrow. Look what it did, what
carefulness it wrought in you, what clearing of yourself, what
indignation, yea, what fear, reverential fear, what vehement
desire, what zeal, what revenge in all things you have been and
you have approved yourself to be clear in this matter." Listen,
true repentance. What's the evidence of true repentance?
True repentance toward God is born out of a love for Him and
a desire to do His will. He hid it when he read Exodus
33. The goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance. It's not
the wrath of God. It's not trying to scare the
daylights out of people. It's when God Almighty, you see
his goodness and his grace that leads you, it leads you to repentance. His goodness. You mean it's grace,
100% free, sovereign grace? You mean God gives repentance?
He gives repentance. You don't work for it, you don't
work to get it, and you don't work to keep it. We need repentance
every single day. Hadn't you repented of one sin
and the next day you do the same thing over and over and over
again? God must give you repentance.
Repentance. God, how could I be so foolish?
How could I sin against your grace? That's what will break
a sinner's heart. Show me your glory. It's in my
goodness. My goodness. One example that I could think
about, you remember the Gadarene man. who lived among the tombs,
filled with a legion full of demons, cutting himself, and
the town, they tried to bind him with chains and fetters,
and he broke them loose. Religion can't bind a man. And
Christ went all the way across that sea, went through that storm
to get that one man. And when he saved that man, and
he delivered that man, you could see he had done something. But
he drove, he cast those legions out and went in them hogs and
drove them crazy and they drowned themselves in the sea. And the
people, they ran into the town, said, you won't believe what
just happened. And they came out to see what happened. And
here it says, and they came to Jesus to see him that was possessed
with the devil and had the legion sitting, sitting. clothed in the righteousness
of Christ and in his right mind. He's not a lunatic anymore. And they were afraid. Why were
they afraid? It scared them to death. They
could see What they had tried to do, they couldn't do. That's
what religion is like, trying to bind that man with ropes and
chains and he will break them loose every time. God set him
free. And that's repentance, my friends.
That's repentance. He gives you a right mind. Remember the prodigal son? I'll
give you some scripture reading, an assignment. Go read Luke 15
tonight again. The parable of the sheep, the
parable of the lost coin, and the picture of the sun. What
is all that about? It's about repentance. There
is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner,
that repentance, than more than nine, the ninety and nine, who
think they need no repentance. You know what it says? That son, he gets it, what he
got from his father, he took it, and he wasted it on himself.
That's us. He got down in the hog pen, and
then when he wasted it all, he goes to work for this man, going
to try to earn back his favor in his father's sight. And eventually,
he comes to his right mind. It said he come to himself. You
know what he did? he began to think about the goodness of the
father. He said, my father's servants do better than I do.
And he said, I will arise and go to my father's house and I'll
tell him that I'm willing to be a servant. And he gets up
and he don't stop on the way to get him a new set of clothes.
He didn't stop to buy him a horse so he can look a little better
when he meets the father. He comes just like he did, smelling
just like the hog pen. And it said, the father saw him
afar off, and he ran to meet him. It's the only place I ever
see in the scriptures where God ever got in a hurry. He ran to
that man, fell on his neck, and kissed him. And he said, you
go get the best rope. That's my robe. That's the father's
robe. You put a ring on his finger
and shoes on his feet and you kill the fatted calf. You know
why? This my son was dead and is alive again. That's repentance,
isn't it? He was dead. He ain't dead no
more. He's alive. But what about that
older brother? He hears all this music going
on in the house. He's been out in the field working.
He comes back and he said, I've never disobeyed you one day in
my life. You never give me a kid. Religion won't be happy when
God gives you repentance. You know what it'll do? It will
make them uncomfortable. When I was in religion, my whole
family was happy about it, because I was just like them. that you
let God give somebody a real, genuine, broken sinner, let God
give them repentance, and He'll make them mad, and He'll make
them angry. They don't want you to know God, they just want you
to have religion. Isn't that right? The older brother, you know why
he was mad? He didn't think he needed repentance. I'll ask you a question. Do you
need repentance? Boy, I do. God, don't leave me to myself.
Until God makes you sick of sin, you'll never be sick of sin. And the last one is Paul was
writing to that church of Thessalonica. He says, no one, brethren, beloved
your election of God. He said, how in the world did
he know they were the elect? For the gospel came to you not
in word only, but in power. That's how. You may sit under the gospel
a long time and hear it in word only. And you may think that's
repentance. That's not repentance. It's when
it comes. In the day of his power, when
it comes in power, and it convicts you of sin. He convinces you
of righteousness and of judgment. And he gives you new heart. and in much assurance, as you
know what manner of men we were among you for your sake, and
you became followers of us and of the Lord, having received
the word in much affliction with joy of the Holy Ghost, so that
you were examples to all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia,
for from you sounded out the word of the Lord." Not only in
Macedonia and Achaia, they wanted other people to hear about this
gospel. but also in every place your faith to God were to spread
abroad so that we need not to speak anything. For they themselves
show of us what manner of entering in we had unto you." Here it
is, and how you turn to God from your idols to serve the living
and true God. I've heard people say, well,
I believe the gospel. And they sit in an Armenian church
where God is light on every Sunday. They've never repented. If God
ever grants you repentance, you will turn from those idols, whatever
the idol is, and the biggest idol is we're looking at it,
at you and me. You will turn from these idols
to the living and true God, and to wait for His Son. You are interested in knowing
the Son, where your treasure is, there's where your heart's
gonna be. And to wait for his son from heaven, whom he raised
from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to
come. He's delivered you from the wrath
to come. He's given you what you can't
produce. He's given you repentance. He
won your heart. He won your heart. You know what? If he puts a love in your heart
for him, and he does, we don't love him like we should. Ain't
none of us do. We can't stand and sing, oh,
how I love Jesus. It ain't worth singing about.
But if he ever sheds a drop of his love in your heart, when
you grieve him, it'll break your heart. David was in a cave one
day, and King Saul, his enemy, was in that cave. And David's
men said, here's your chance, David, to take care of your enemy.
Why don't you just kill him? We'll be done with him. David
goes over and just cuts his skirt off. And it smoked David's heart,
didn't it? He said, I've done wrong. I've done wrong. That's when the Spirit of God
convicts you of sin, what sin really is. He said, I've sinned
against God. Touched not mine anointed. You
know what? David didn't have to take care
of King Solomon. God took care of King Solomon. God enabled
us and God give us repentance and to the acknowledging of the
truth. Amen.
