I invite your attention to the
book of Psalms. The 95th Psalm. My text will
be found in verse number six. And today's message is the fifth
in this series on Jehovah's names are Jesus' names. Jehovah is God's name par excellence It is his covenant name It is
the name by which is known by his people God in his relationship
with the creator of the creation and as the creator goes by the
name Elohim But in his relationship to his people As their Redeemer,
His name is Jehovah. He is the self-existent One. His existence is not derived
from anyone else. It is eternal. His existence
is eternal and in Himself and only of Him is there such an
existence. It is He who brought all other
things into existence. And Jehovah has a number of compound
names. We're looking at 12 of them in
this series of messages. And we have now come to the eighth
one. It is found here in Psalm 95. All these compound names describe
something about God and let us know something about Him. For
example, His name is Jehovah Jireh, the Lord will provide. His name is Jehovah Rapha, the
Lord who heals you. His name is Jehovah Nissi, the
Lord is my banner. His name is Jehovah Qadosh, the
Lord who sanctifies you. His name is Jehovah Shalom, the
Lord is peace. His name is Jehovah Elyon, the
Lord most high. His name is Jehovah Roi, the
Lord my shepherd. His name is Jehovah Asa, the
Lord our Maker, and that's the one we're looking at today. And
we will also consider number 10. Jehovah's about the Lord
of Hosts. Number 11, Jehovah Tzidkenu,
the Lord our righteousness, and the 12th name is Jehovah Shammah,
the Lord is there. These are his compound names,
and every one of them belongs to Jesus Christ. I emphasize
that Jehovah's names belong to him and to him alone. Other gods,
are called Elohim as God is called. That name means a great one,
but this name Jehovah, the self-existent one, the I am who I am, this
name belongs to Him alone, and this name belongs to Jesus Christ. All these compound names belong
to Jesus Christ because He is indeed Jehovah. Jehovah here
presents himself as one God in three persons, we here emphasize
the two persons, and likewise to Jesus Christ when he said,
I and my Father are one. All these names belong to Jesus
Christ And we're going to be looking at this one today in
psalm 95 verse 6 I want to read down to that text beginning at
verse number one psalm 95 The psalm begins with this exhortation. Oh come This exhortation appears
thrice in this psalm, and this is the first of the three. O
come, come who? All God's people. O come, let
us sing unto Jehovah. We came here this morning to
sing, and our songs were all about him. Oh come let us sing unto Jehovah. Let us make a joyful noise to
the rock of our salvation. In the Lord's presence is no
place for sadness. This is a place for gladness,
rejoicing. We come with thankful hearts,
we come with rejoicing hearts. O come and let us sing, let us
make a joyful noise, and then let us come for the second time. Let us come before his presence
with thanksgiving and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms. Thanksgiving. That's the way
we come into his presence. We do not approach God in order
to boast of ourselves or to tell him what we've done for the past
week, hoping that we might make him proud of us. No, we come
with thanksgiving for all that he is and all that he has done
for us. Why do we do so? Verse three,
for Jehovah is a great God. He's not one of the vain images
and the idols of the idolaters and the heathens. He is a great
God and a great king above all gods. He is king of kings and
God of gods, Lord of lords, and the highest ranking monarch, ruler in all the universe,
the blessed potentate. His hand are the deep places
of the earth How much of the ocean can you
hold in your hand Fill your hands with the ocean
and the ocean will not miss a drop God holds out one hand And the
entire oceans are in it. That's how great and that's how
awesome he is. For in his hand are the deep
places of the earth. And the strength of the hills
is his also. Now you probably have a marginal
rendering for that phrase, the strength of the hills. It means
the height of the hills are his. The deepest oceans are his. The
highest mountains are His and everything in between. Everything
in between. There is nothing in this universe
that does not belong to Him. You cannot go too deep to find
something that does not belong to Him. You cannot climb some
height and find there's something that does not belong to Him.
His are all things. The sea is his, and he made it. Well, that's logical. If I go buy wood and nails and
screws and paint and tools and make a table, It's my table. Belongs to me. Why? I made it. I made it. Everything you see, Jehovah made
it. It's his. The sea is his, he made it. And his hands formed the dry
land. Meaning that everywhere you are,
you are on God's creation. Whether you're sailing the sea, whether you're walking across
the earth. The wettest places and the driest places and everything
in between belong to him. Oh come, here's the third time
the phrase appears. Oh come, let us worship and bow
down. Let us kneel before, and here's
the name, Jehovah our maker. Jehovah also the Lord our maker
Oh Come let us worship and bow down Let us kneel before Jehovah
our maker Why? For he is our God And we are
the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand Therefore Come and worship. Note the three terms that are
used. Worship, bow down, kneel. Worship, bow down, kneel. That is the proper posture when
you come into his presence. Just this morning, I searched the internet for pictures
of the word worship. Do it when you get home, you'll
see what I saw. Just pull up your internet search
engine and put in the word worship. And what do you see? Hands raised. Heads up. mouths open. And if you look at the videos,
they're waving like palm trees. That's what worship is nowadays
in most places. You have to scroll way down the
page before you find someone in worship
prostrate before the Lord. I went way down the page before
I found someone bowing his head under the title of worship. Way
down the page before you find someone prostrate. Because that's what worship has
become in most places nowadays. Pentecostalism and the charismatic
movement have so Influenced modern-day worship
that it's far beyond and removed from what it was in scriptural
days We've Not seen it here, and I
hope we never do I Worship should be reverential. We come before his presence in
all. We worship, bow down, kneel. However, realize this. The posture
of your soul is far more important than the posture of your physical
body, and that is what is here mentioned. It is not necessary
for us to walk into that door, fall down on our faces and crawl
to a pew. and then stay prostrate during
the worship service. It's not the physical aspect
that is here emphasized. It is the spiritual aspect. Our souls may be prostrate when
we stand to sing, when we sit to hear, when we bow to pray. That thief, repentant one, believing
one, crucified with Christ, worshiped Him when nailed to a tree. Worshiped Him, obeyed this exhortation
to worship. Bow before Him and kneel before
your Maker. When the scriptures say, lift
up holy hands in prayer, It is not requiring you to lift your
physical hands. It is the hands of your soul. And they should be holy. They
should be clean. They should be spotless. Oh,
come and let us worship. We can do nothing better in this
building. Worship. In our hymns, in our testimonies,
in our fellowship, in the reading of the scripture, in the preaching
of the gospel, everything we do should be an act of worship. Come, let us do it. Come, let
us do it. Come let us worship and bow down
let us kneel before Jehovah our maker Our maker Beware Of the man or the woman Who claims
to be self-made? Let none of us, I'm sure none
of us would, but let none of us say, I am a self-made man. I am a self-made woman. For I
have observed this, that most people who claim to be self-made
worship their maker, the one who made them, and that was themselves. We will worship our maker and
our maker is not ourselves. Let us worship, bow down, and
kneel before Jehovah our Saul, the Lord our maker, and Jesus
Christ is whom he is. Jesus Christ is Jehovah our maker. He is the divine maker of all
things. We read in Colossians chapter
1 that he is the image of the invisible God. Now consider that. He is the image of the invisible
God. God forbids us to make images
or anything that represents him in any way. You shall make no
image that includes a graven idol, that includes a picture,
that includes a crucifix, that includes anything that people
make by which they can say this represents God or Jesus. God
forbids the making of anything physical. that is an image of
him or a representation of him. And he did so for this reason. The only image of God is Jesus
Christ. He is the image of the invisible
God. Man was made in God's image,
but Jesus Christ is the image. He is the image of the invisible
God. When you have seen Jesus Christ,
you have seen Him who cannot be seen because He is invisible,
but Jesus Christ has manifested the Father unto us. He Himself
declared If you have seen me, you have seen the Father because
I am the image of the Father and the only image of the Father
that there is. He is the image of the invisible
God. By Him, all things were created. Now, what's the prepositions
that are used in this text? By Him, all things were created. that are in heaven and that are
on earth, visible and invisible. He made the rivers. He made the air that cannot be
seen. He made the heavens, the stars,
the sun, the moon, the planets, He made everything on earth.
He also made thrones or dominions or principalities and powers. He makes kings, sets one up, pulls down another. Anyone who is a king, a ruler,
a president, a premier, a prime minister, whatever, Jesus did it. He put that one
there. Then notice this, all things
were created through Him. Notice, by Him, through Him,
and it's not finished. And for Him. Three prepositions regarding
our Maker. Him all things were created Through
him God created all things and everything was made for his glory He's the maker We read also In John chapter 1 all things
were made through him and without him nothing was made that was
made and Now John here is letting us know something about the person
and the work of Jesus Christ. He prefaced that text, John chapter
one, verse three, by saying that in the beginning was the Word,
the Word was with God, the Word was God. And that is, most people would say, a most
illogical statement. that he can be with God and be
God at the same moment, but that's what it says. That's what it
says. He was with God and the word
was God. The same as in the beginning
with God. By him, Jesus Christ, all things
were made. Apart from him, nothing was made
that was made God the Father declares Jesus Christ to be the
divine maker when he says to him in Hebrews chapter 1, your
throne, O God, is forever and ever. Now here's just a point
that God the Father acknowledges and declares the deity and the
divinity of Jesus Christ. Your throne, O God. This is the
Father speaking to the Son. Your throne, O God, is forever
and ever. Listen, folks, that statement
is so clear and plain. You cannot miss its meaning unless
you deliberately deny what it says and say that it means something
else. I've used this verse in speaking
with some people who claim to be witnesses for Jehovah. And
I said, it's right here. It's in the Psalms, and Jehovah
quotes it, and he says, your throne, O God, is forever and
ever. And they say, well, that's not
really what it means. Well, what does it mean? Well,
it means God says to Jesus, God is your throne. Okay. God is not a throne, all right? Nowhere in scripture is God said
to be a throne, unless you have their translation. This is the father saying to
the son, your throne, oh God, is forever and ever. This is
God the Father speaking to the divine Son and acknowledging
Him as God. He says, you, this is still the
Father speaking to the Son. You, Lord, in the beginning laid
the foundation of the earth. In the beginning, you did it.
Now, when you open the scriptures and begin reading, and this is
an interesting fact, When you go to the very first verse in
the Bible, and then read the rest of the scriptures, you'll
find this interesting truth. Holy scriptures nowhere try to
prove God's existence. Now if you Follow some eminent theologians. And I took a whole course on
it in seminary, required. Had to study proofs of God's
existence. And they got, you know, they
got all these names for them. And various theologians will
debate who's got the best proofs for God's existence. Have you ever noticed Holy Scriptures
never attempt to prove God's existence. Instead, they open by declaring
it. And really there is no need for
us to try to prove God's existence. No need. Because The scripture says, men suppress
the knowledge of God. You cannot suppress what you
do not confess to be. They try to put it down. The
knowledge of God is in their hearts. God's law is written
in their hearts. Men suppress what they do not
want to believe, but they know He exists. Therefore, when you
come to the Scriptures, they never try to prove God's existence. Rather, they open with this lie. In the beginning, God created
the heavens and the earth. Now consider, Jehovah did it. All creation is His, and yet
of Jesus Christ we read, by Him all things were created, through
Him all things were created, for Him all things were created,
and apart from Him nothing was created, so that when you come
to Genesis 1.1, what you are reading is this, in the beginning,
Jesus Christ created the heavens and the earth, You Lord, in the
beginning, laid the foundation of the earth and the heavens
on the work of your hands. This is still the Father speaking
to the Son in Hebrews chapter one. They will perish, but you
remain. You were here before the creation
was put into existence, and when this creation is gone, you are
still here. They will all grow old like a
garment, like a cloak. You will fold them up. This firmament will one day be
dissolved. Jesus one day is coming and he's
gonna take the firmament around us and just fold it up, put it
away, no longer need it. They will be changed. You are
the same You are the same meaning Immutable Now there's a good
word for you He is eternal Because he was here before the creation
came into existence Was brought into existence and he'll be here
When this creation is gone He is immutable. He never changes. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday,
today, and forever. And furthermore, your years will
not fail because you are eternal. Now that is our maker. When you come into this building, You have come into His house, and we are prostrate before Him, bowing down before Him, kneeling
before Him, and acknowledging that He is
Jehovah Asa, the Lord our Maker. and that we did not make ourselves. Let's go to the next name. Number
nine, Jehovah Elohim. It means the Lord our God. Psalm 99, verses five and nine. Exalt Jehovah Elohim, the Lord
our God. our God. And we confess that Jesus Christ
is Jehovah Elohim, our God. Shortly after, Jesus was crucified, raised from
the dead. His disciples have met locked the doors Wondering what's gonna happen
next and though the door is locked
Someone walked through it And into their presence and It was their Savior just
raised from the dead. He appears before them. Thomas is not there on that occasion. There were
only 10 of the apostles there. Judas had already gone to his
place. Thomas was absent, so the 10
were there, and they told Thomas, Thomas, Jesus appeared, it was
him. The one they crucified, he appeared,
and Thomas says, unless I can touch him, unless I can put my
finger in the holes that were put into him, I will not believe. We call him Doubting Thomas. Well, don't be so harsh and hard
on him. We may have been just as doubtful
about it as he was at that time, but on the next
Lord's Day, the disciples have gathered again, and Thomas is
in the presence with them, and Jesus shows up again. Jesus goes to Thomas And he puts
his hands forward Go ahead Thomas Put your finger in the hole of
my hand See if you believe now go ahead and do it Thomas does
not need to do so He sees his Lord before him and what does
he call him? my Lord and My God. My Lord and my God. I've had people tell me it was
only an exclamation, that's all it was. It's like the exclamation
many people make today, you know, they say, oh my God. And by the
way, we never should use such an expression as that unless
you're meaning it in such a way as Thomas did. It's taken God's
name in vain when you use it so flippantly and particularly
when unbelievers use that term. Thomas was serious, and if he
had only been making some kind of a men's oath, I have no doubt
Jesus would have rebuked him on the spot, and so would the
other apostles, but no, he spoke truth. My Lord and my God. My Lord and my God. Paul calls
him our great God and Savior Jesus Christ. Paul was writing under divine
inspiration our great God Our only Savior he's Jesus Christ
he's Jesus Christ What an awesome truth is this Jehovah has come to us and appeared
to us in the person of Jesus Christ and And we are just and
righteous when we look at Him and stand before Him and exclaim,
my Lord and my God, for that's whom He is, our great God and
Savior, Jesus Christ. In fulfillment of Messianic prophecy,
We point to Jesus and to say, behold, this is our God. I love this prophecy. And Jehovah
gave it. He says, I'm sending one into
the world and when he comes, you're going to say, behold,
our God. It is not the same as saying,
behold, what God has done. Rather it is behold the God who
did it. Behold your God. This is Jehovah. And we will be glad and rejoice
in his salvation. That's what we exclaim when we
are in Jesus' presence. When he returns to this earth
again. when he splits that eastern sky
and comes down in judgment against the wicked and in salvation for
his people, we'll behold him coming and declare, behold, this
is our God. This is Jehovah. We will be glad and rejoice in
his salvation. And what will the rest of the
earth be saying? They shall look to the mountains
and the rocks, say, fall on us, hide us from the wrath of the
Lamb. God is coming in judgment, and
we have denied Him and despised Him. and now his wrath will come
upon us. I hope that in that final day
you can look and say of Jesus Christ, behold, this is my God. This is the great one. This is
the God who made me. This is the great God. We will exalt him with this exhortation. Exalting Exalt Jehovah Elohim
the Lord our God We have done so this morning
in our hymns We have done so in the reading
of the scripture We have done so in our prayer and We have
done so in both the preaching and the hearing of the gospel. And if you have not done so,
may today be the day when you learn to exalt him, lift him
high, praise him. Oh God, our Father, be pleased,
we pray, to bless this word to your glory in Jesus' name, amen.

I maintain a broad collection for research, study, and listening, and the presence of any preacher or message here should not be taken as a blanket endorsement of every doctrinal position expressed.
I publish my own convictions openly and without hesitation throughout this site and in my own preaching and writing. This archive is not a denominational clearinghouse. My aim in maintaining it is to preserve historic and contemporary preaching, encourage careful study, and above all direct readers and listeners to the person and work of Christ.
