The sermon titled "The Trinity of the Word of God" by Todd Nibert emphasizes the intertwined nature of the written Word, the living Word (Jesus Christ), and the gospel message, illustrating the biblical foundation of the doctrine of the Trinity. Nibert argues that the concept of the Trinity permeates Scripture, citing passages such as Genesis 1:26 and John 1:1-14 to demonstrate the plurality and unity of God's nature. He emphasizes the dynamic power of the Word, discussing how the written Scriptures are inspired by God (2 Timothy 3:16) and how preaching the Word facilitates spiritual rebirth (1 Peter 1:23). The practical significance of this doctrine lies in encouraging believers to value the Word of God as essential for salvation and spiritual growth, asserting that the power of the gospel resides not in the preacher but in the divine authority of God’s Word.

I've entitled this message, The
Trinity of the Word. Now, I thought about that title.
I thought, what does trinity mean? We know that the word trinity
is not found in the Bible, but the doctrine of the trinity is
on every page. God said, let us make man in
our own image. When God created the heavens
and the earth, the plural of God is used every time. God the Father, God the Son,
and God the Holy Spirit. And the Trinity is on every page
of the scripture. It was interesting, I was listening
to a message by a man who, was talking about how Isaiah called
Christ the everlasting father. It's something I'm gonna preach
on before long. And the man said, this man didn't
yet understand the Trinity. Isaiah did not yet understand
the Trinity. That's why he said that. And
I thought, I don't think so. David understood
the Trinity, didn't he? He said, take not the Holy Spirit
from me. He said, the Lord said to my Lord, Sit thou at my right
hand until I make thy foes thy footstool. There he mentions
all three persons of the Trinity. But did you know the word of
God is a trinity? How so? Well, what is meant by
the word of God? Well, first of all, the written
word. The holy scriptures. I even love saying that. The
holy scriptures. What is the word of God? The
living word, the Lord Jesus Christ. In the beginning was the word,
and the word was with God, and the word was God. And the word is the gospel message. Now, the spoken word, the preached
word, it is living. Not because the preacher said
it, but because God, the Holy Spirit, blesses his own word. I think of what our Lord said
in John chapter six, verse 63, I think it is, the words I speak
unto you, they are spirit and they are life. This is what Paul
was speaking of when he said to Timothy, Timothy, preach the
word, the gospel Message, so. What is meant by the word? The
scriptures, yes. The living word, the Lord Jesus
Christ, yes. The gospel message, yes. The word. From the word that
reveals. The word. The gospel message. From the scriptures. that reveal
the living word of God, the Lord Jesus Christ. We have the written
word. Aren't you thankful for the written
word? I'm so thankful that God has given us a book where he
makes himself known so we're not dependent upon men. He's
given us his book. All scripture is given. by inspiration of God. God breathed, that's where the
life is. It's the breath of God, the living
breath of God, the word of God said exactly as he would have
it said. I love the word of God, don't
you? I love the scriptures, I'm so thankful for the word of God.
You know, this holy gospel we believe is preeminently a word
from this book, every page. And the Living Word in the beginning
was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. The Word was made flesh and dwelt
among us. He is the Word of God. Turn with
me to Revelation 19 for just a moment. We have this beautiful
description of the Lord Jesus. Revelation 19. Beginning in verse
11, John says, And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And he that sat upon him was
called Faithful and True. In righteousness he doth judge
and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire,
and on his head were many crowns. And he had a name written that
no man knew but he himself, and he was clothed with a vesture
dipped in blood, and his name is called the Word of God. What a name for our Redeemer,
the Word of God. And the armies which were in
heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen,
white and clean, and out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword. That with it, he should smite
the nations and he shall rule them with a rod of iron. And
he treaded the wine press of the fierceness and wrath of almighty
God. And he asked on his vesture and
on his name on his thigh, a name written king of Kings and Lord
of Lords, the word of God. And then there's the word preached. What's going on right now? The
Word preached. Now the power of the Word preached
is not the preacher. It's God's Word. The preacher
articulates it, but it's God's Word. Listen to this scripture
from 1 Peter 1, verse 23, being born again, not of corruptible
seed, but of incorruptible by the Word of God, the spoken Word
of God, but God's Word. which liveth and abideth forever. Romans 1 16, Paul said, I'm not
ashamed of the gospel of Christ for it, the gospel, the gospel
message is the power of God unto salvation. James 1 18 says of his own will
begat he us, birthed he us. with the word, the breath of
God, God breathing life into a dead sinner through the word
of God. I love the way Paul said to Timothy,
preach the word. Does the Bible claim to be the
inspired word of God? Holy man. spake as they were
moved by the Holy Ghost, then preach it. Don't apologize for
that. Declare it. Does the Bible declare
that God is absolutely, immutably, incontestably sovereign, the
first cause of everything, the cause of causes? Then preach
it. Does the Word of God declare
that men are dead in sins, unable to save themselves, completely
dependent upon God to do something for them? Preach it. Does the word declare that God
elected a people before time began? Then preach it. Does the word declare that when
Jesus Christ said it is finished, it was finished? And that by
one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified
and completely saved them? Then preach it. Does the Word
declare that salvation is by the irresistible, invincible
grace of God? Grace that won't take no for
an answer. Grace that gives life. Then preach it. Does the Word
of God declare that God's people will persevere, continuing to
look to Christ only all the way to the end? Then preach it. Preach
the Word. And I think this gives us an
inkling of what David meant in Psalm 138 verse two. Thou hast
magnified thy word above all thy name. The word of God. Now you could say with regard
to the word of God, what John said about the Father, the word
and the Holy Ghost, These three are one. The written word, the
living word, and the gospel message. These three are one. They cannot be separated.
