entitled, Wherein Do We Differ? And I closed the message with
this verse of scripture. And I've had this verse of scripture
on my mind, and I felt like I ought to attempt to bring a message
on this scripture. Let me read it. It's from Numbers
10, verse 29. Moses is speaking to his brother-in-law. whom he has known some 40 years,
and they're getting ready to go on this journey. And let me
read these words, Hebrews chapter 10, I mean Numbers chapter 10,
verse 29. And Moses said unto Hobab, the
son of Regul, the Midianite, Moses' father-in-law, we are
journeying unto the place of which the Lord said. I will give it you. Come thou with us, and we will
do thee good, for the Lord hath spoken good concerning Israel."
Now, I've entitled this message, Come With Us, We Will Do Thee
Good. The gospel of the Lord Jesus
Christ is both exclusive, it excludes all other ways, and
it excludes people who try to come some other way. The gospel
is exclusive and it's also inclusive. It includes people. It doesn't drive people away.
It includes people who would have been destroyed were it not
for the gospel. Now, if both of those aspects
of the gospel are not brought out, the gospel is not preached. If someone merely speaks of the
exclusiveness of the gospel and leaves it there, he's not really
preached the gospel. And if someone preaches the inclusiveness
of the gospel and doesn't bring out its exclusivity, then the
gospel has not been preached. Now, what do I mean by the gospel
being exclusive? Well, it's found in our text
in verse 29. Come thou with us and we will
do thee good, for the Lord hath spoken good concerning Israel. All of his good is concerning
Israel. He hath not spoken good with
regard to those outside of Israel, he has only spoken good concerning
Israel, not the whole world, but Israel. Now, physical Israel
represents spiritual Israel, the elect, the true Jew. Let me show you that in the scripture.
In Romans chapter nine, beginning in verse six, We read, it's not as though the word of
God has taken none effect, for they are not all Israel, which
are of Israel. Just because you were born in
Israel, just because you were born an Israelite physically
does not make you a true Israelite. Neither because they are the
seed of Abraham are they all children, but in Isaac shall
thy seed be called. That is, they which are the children
of the flesh, these physical Jews, these physical Israelites,
these are not the children of God. But the children of the
promise are counted for the seed. For this is the word of promise.
At this time will I come, and Sarah shall have a son, And not
only this, but when Rebecca also had conceived by one, even by
her father Isaac, for the children, being not yet born, neither having
done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election
might stand not of works, but of him that calleth. Now hear
what's being said. These two boys that came out
of the same womb, Jacob and Esau. God said later on in this same
passage of scripture, Jacob have I loved, Esau have I hated. God will never love Esau, he
hates him, and he'll never hate Jacob, he loves him. Salvation
was completely accomplished before either one of those boys were
born. And it happened according to
God's choice. And God chooses who would be
saved for this purpose, that salvation might not be of works,
but of him that calleth. Salvation by works is excluded. If you come to God any way on
the footing of your own works, you're shut out. You are excluded. Christ said, I am the way. He's the way that excludes all
other ways. There is no other way to the
Father. but through Christ. It's the way of grace that excludes
all other ways, and if this is not brought out, the gospel is
not brought out. The gospel is exclusive. It does
not except anything but itself. That's it. That being said, the
gospel is inclusive. I love the word whosoever. I am a whosoever. Whosoever shall
call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Whosoever will, let him take
the water of life freely. God has never turned away a sinner
who came to him for mercy. And if you come for mercy, you
will have mercy. Now that's a promise the gospel
is so inclusive. The Lord says, him that cometh
to me, I will in no wise cast out. If you come to Christ for
mercy, you won't be cast out, you'll be received. So here we
see the gospel both in its nature of being exclusive. The Lord
has spoken good concerning Israel, but he says to Hobab, his brother-in-law,
who was not an Israelite, come thou with us. We will do thee
good. Now, Moses begins where the only place to begin
is, what God said. That's where his appeal was with
Hodab, his brother-in-law, what God had said. We are journeying
unto the place of which the Lord said, I will give it thee. The Lord has spoken good concerning
Israel. He begins where every true preacher
begins with what God has said. What I'm saying this morning
is what God has said. Now, when I'm saying that, I'm
not saying God communicated to me some special message that
you're not gonna hear unless I give it to you. That's what
you call a cult leader. A cult leader has some kind of
special communication from God. He goes, outside of the scriptures,
I've got this special revelation that God gave me to give you.
All that is is a cult leader. And Moses is not doing that.
He's giving what God has actually said. The Lord said. The Lord hath spoken. This is
God's word. And when we hear a message, we're
to be like the noble Bereans who search the scriptures daily,
whether these things be so. He heard what God said. He brought
what God said. Now the Bible claims to be the
word of God. All scripture is given by inspiration
of God. Literally, God-breathed. Peter said, the prophecy came
not in old time by the will of man, but holy men spake as they
were moved by the Holy Ghost. Every word of scripture is God-breathed
and without error. Somebody says, how can you believe
that this book actually is God breathed? Well, can God create
a universe? Of course he did. This same God
made a way to be absolutely just and yet justify guilty sinners. If he can do those things, he
can inspire men to write a book and preserve it throughout the
centuries. And he has done just that with
his holy word. And we begin with what God said. The Bible is the word of God. Now, Moses says, we're on a journey. We're on a journey. We're going
to a better place, better than anything in this world. Whatever's in this world, this
is better. This is the place where the Lord
said, I'll give it you. Oh, his power to give. Now, we're
on a journey. We're strangers and pilgrims.
This world is not our home. And the place we are going is
infinitely better. It's the place the Lord said,
I will give it you. Now, when Moses makes this statement
to Hobab, he does not know that this is going to be in terms
of years, a 40 year journey. He didn't find that out until
Numbers chapter 14. He thinks it's going to be a
relatively short journey and it didn't end up being a short
journey. It was a long journey and there
was a lot of bumps in the road. and there's a lot of bumps in
the road in my journey, in your journey, but he says we're journeying
to the place where the Lord said, I will give it thee. Now, the word place, we're journeying
unto the place in which the Lord said, I give it thee, is a word
that carries with it the idea of wideness and liberty and freedom. We're going to a place of liberty. we're going to a place of freedom. It's the place the Lord said,
I give it thee. Now I want us to think for a
moment of his power to give. If you then being evil, Know
how to give good gifts unto your children? How much more shall
your heavenly Father give good things to them that ask Him? You see, He's all-powerful. He's
all-wise. He's altogether righteous. He's
absolutely sovereign. Whatever He wills must of necessity
come to pass. If He wills to give you something,
you have it. And you've had it eternally.
Everything He gives, He's already given. 2 Timothy 1.9 says, He
saved us and He called us with a holy calling, not according
to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace, which
was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began. He said, I give unto them eternal
life. He gave himself for our sins. He said, my peace give I unto
thee, the peace I have with my father, the peace of perfect
obedience, the peace of perfect righteousness, the peace of perfect
acceptance, my peace I give unto you. He said, the glory thou
gavest me, I have given them. He said, whoso drinketh of this
water, shall thirst again. But whoso drinketh of the water
that I shall give shall never thirst." If you ever believe
on Christ, if I ever believe on Christ, we will find complete
satisfaction knowing that all God requires of us, we have in
its fullest in Christ Jesus. We're not looking for anything
else. Somebody says, there must be something else. Well, if you
think that, it's because you've never really believed on Christ.
If you believed on Christ, you found full satisfaction in him. No man can come to me except
it were given him of my father. He gives the grace to come to
his father. I've given them the words thou
gavest me. Him hath God exalted with his
right hand for to give repentance to Israel and the forgiveness
of sins. He gives repentance. He gives
us change of mind. If you have a change of mind,
it's because He gave it to you. And if you have the forgiveness
of sins, it's because He gave you the forgiveness of sins.
These are gifts of His grace. He giveth us the victory through
our Lord Jesus Christ. He gives grace. and he gives
more grace. To her was granted that she should
be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white, which is the righteousness
of saints. That fine linen is given, the
gift of God's grace. I will give to him that's of
thirst of the water of life freely. Romans 8.32 says, he that spared
not his own son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall
he not with him also freely give us all things? Now what does
Moses say to Hobab? He said, come with us. Come with
us. Not go and do. Not go and make
yourself fit. Not go and improve yourself and
make yourself worthy of mercy. Right now, come as you are. Come on. Come with us and we
will do thee good. You see the message of the gospel
is come. Not go and do, not make yourself
fit, not improve yourself, not stop this and start doing that.
The message of the gospel is come. Now, Hodab was not the
seed of Abraham, but Moses still says, come with us. We'll do
thee good. You come with us and it's going
to be the best thing you've ever done. That's what he says to
Hodad. Nothing is as important as this. You can gain the whole
world. You can gain everything this
world has to offer. And what you're going to do is
find it unsatisfactory. Oh, it may seem good now, but
it won't. Give it time. What should a prophet
of man if he gain the whole world and lose his soul? And what shall
a man give in exchange for his soul? Now, Moses says to Hodad,
come with us, we'll do thee good, for the Lord has spoken good
concerning Israel. Who is Israel? Well, you're familiar with Jacob,
the great grandson of Abraham, or the grandson of Abraham. There's
Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. And God changed Jacob's name. Now, Jacob was a sinful man.
He was a deceitful man. He seemed to live a life of deceit,
if you read his history. He was a very deceitful man,
a sinful man, a weak man, but he was a man God loved. Aren't
you thankful God loves sinners? And God changed his name. God
changed his name to Israel. As a prince, thou hast favor
with God and prevailed. His name means supplanter, Jacob,
cheat. Deceiver, and that's what he
was. And God gave him a new name, Israel. And that is how the nation
of Israel is named. Now let me give you some scriptures
with regard to Israel. Thou shalt not curse the people,
Israel, for they are blessed. These are the people that have
God's blessing. How can I curse whom God hath
not cursed? Lo, the people dwell alone and
shall not be reckoned among the nations. You see, if you're in
Israel, you're in an exclusive group that nobody else, the rest
of the world is not in. Though the people shall dwell
alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations, who can count
the dust of Jacob, or number the fourth part of Israel? Let
me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his."
You see, Israel is the righteous, and let me die like the righteous,
perfectly accepted by God. Listen to this. He hath not beheld
iniquity in Jacob, nor seen perverseness in Israel. The Lord God is with
him, and the shout of a king is among them. Now, if I'm in
Israel, that means God has not beheld any sin in me. He sees
me as without guilt. And the shout of the king is
with me. And I know what that shout is. It is finished. The great shout of the Lord from
the cross, it is finished. And that is why every believer
can be said to have no iniquity or no perverseness seen by God
in them. It should be said of Jacob and
Israel, or it shall be said of Jacob and Israel, what has God
wrought? Every believer, their salvation
is the work of God, and that is why it is successful. How
goodly are thy tents, O Jacob, and thy tabernacles, O Israel.
Israel represents the whole company of God's elect. Now what is the
identifying mark of God? Israel, what is the evidence
that Jesus Christ lived for you and died for you and saved you? What is the evidence? Listen
to this scripture. This is a faithful saying, 1
Timothy 1.15. and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus
came into the world to save sinners, of whom Paul says, I am the chief. What is the identifying mark
of a true Israelite, of one of God's elect? They are sinners. They are sinners. Are you a sinner? Somebody that commits sin. Someone who all you do is sin.
You cannot not sin. And your sin is all your fault,
and you can't sit in judgment on anybody. And you have no claims
on God's mercy. You are a sinner. Christ Jesus
came into the world to save sinners. Now, somebody says, well, I'm
not a sinner. Well, I can't tell you Christ died for you then.
But if you're a sinner, Christ died for you. Your salvation
is a necessity. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ
and thou shalt be saved. Now, the Lord has spoken good
concerning Israel. Let me show you what that looks
like in the New Testament in Romans chapter 8. What does it
mean the Lord has spoken good concerning Israel? Listen to
this, Romans 8, and we know that all things work together for
good to them that love God. to them who are the called according
to his purpose." Now, if you're an Israelite, everything is working
together for your good. Oh, the Lord has spoken good
concerning Israel. Everything is working together
for your good. For whom he did foreknow, For
knowledge is not a what, God knows what will happen, no. For
knowledge is whom he did. For, no. For love. He also did predestinate. Oh, if you're a true Israelite,
you've been predestinated by God. For what purpose? To be
conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn
among many brethren. Oh, the Lord spoken good concerning
Israel. They've been predestinated to
be just like Jesus Christ. Moreover, verse 30, whom he did
predestinate, them he also called. And whom he called, them he also
justified. And whom he justified, them he
also glorified. That's how complete their salvation
is. Well, what should we say to these things? Who's the we? Israel, every believer. If God before us, Who can be
against us? He that spared not his own son,
but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not? What can possibly
prevent him from freely giving us all things? Who shall lay
anything to the charge of God's elect? It's God that justifieth. If you're an Israelite, that
means God justified you. That means you have a perfect
record in heaven. No guilt. Who shall lay anything
to the charge? Who is he that condemneth? It's
Christ that died. That's the only answer you need.
It's Christ that died, yea, rather that's risen, who's even at the
right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. Oh, what
a blessed thing it is to be an Israelite. God has spoken good
concerning Israel. Now here's the last thing I want
us to consider. What Moses said to Hobab, come,
come with us. We'll do thee good. In Revelation
chapter 22, we have such an encouraging verse of scripture in verse 17.
It reads like this. And the spirit and the bride
say, come. Not go and do, not make yourself
better, not wait, come. And let him that heareth say,
come. and let him that is a thirst
come. And whosoever will, let him take
the water of life freely. Come to the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord said in Matthew chapter
11, verses 28 through 30, come unto me, all ye that labor and
are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you
and learn of me. For I am meek and lowly in heart
and you'll find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and
my burden is light. Now salvation by works is an
unbearable burden for you. Something that you can't carry.
Come to the Lord Jesus Christ and he will give you rest. That is his promise. let him
that hears say come the man who hears the message of the spirit
and the bride the church which the message has come he says
come let him that's a thirst come and whosoever will let him
take the water of life freely. The only condition you have to
meet is to have nothing to pay. The water is for you if you have
nothing to pay. Now, are you a believer? Come. Are you a sheep who's gone astray? Come. Do you feel like you're
on the outside looking in? Come. Are you an unbeliever? That's all the more reason to
come. We say to Hodab, Hobab, and everybody else, we're on
a journey to the place the Lord said, I'll give it you. Come with us. We will do thee
good, for the Lord has spoken good concerning Israel." Now,
leave me with something. What am I to do? Sirs, what must I do to be saved? Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ
and thou shalt be saved. We have this message on CD and
DVD. If you call the church right
or email, we'll send you a copy. This is Todd Kniper praying that
God will make himself known to me and to you. Amen. To receive a copy of the sermon
