Turn back to Matthew chapter
9. Look at verse 28. Verse 28 of Matthew
9. And when he was coming to the
house, the blind men came to him, and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to
do this. Do you believe that I am able? Is he able? Do you believe He's able? Scripture says He is. It's pretty clear about that. Over and over again in Scripture
we read, He is able. I would like for us to look at
just a few passages of Scripture this evening on this subject. He is able. Turn with me first
to Romans chapter 4. Romans chapter 4. Look at verse 21. Romans 4 verse 21, and being fully persuaded that
what he had promised, he was able also to perform. Now this is in reference to Abraham. When Abraham was 90 years old, God told him and Sarah, you're
going to have a son. Abraham was 90 and I believe
Sarah would have been 80. You're going to bear a son. Now
to the natural body, to the natural mind, that's impossible, isn't
it? but God promised to do it. And there are many promises in
God's word. A promise of pardon to those
who seek him. A promise of justification to
those that believe. Sanctification for sinners. Promises of supply of Spiritual
food. He's going to feed his sheep. Promises of guidance. Promises
to preserve and keep. Promises of peace and joy. Promises of hope. Promises of
death. Promises of judgment and glory. Promise of the hope of eternal
life. the hope of eternal life, which
God, that cannot lie, promised before
the world began. You know, all those things, again,
to the natural mind, just would seem an impossibility. But listen, what God promised
he is able to perform. God gave Abraham the promise
that in his seed all the nations of the earth would be blessed. And yet for many years that promise
seemed to be unfulfilled. When God told Abraham, he laughed.
When he told Sarah, she doubted and laughed. And 10 years passed. 10 years before that promise
was fulfilled. We just want everything now,
don't we? I'll speak for myself. Maybe
you all are patient and don't mind waiting on things. I just
want everything right. I don't want to wait on anything." Ten years passed. And though
Sarah at some point gave Abraham her servant, her handmaid, and said, here,
have a child with her. Bear a child with her. Yet we
read this. He believed God. He staggered not at the promise
through unbelief. And though he came to be a hundred
years old and his wife Sarah 90, he didn't listen to the voice
of carnal reason, of man's reason. No, he believed God. Now again, naturally, these things
are impossible, right? But with God, all things, all things are possible. And he was fully persuaded that
if God promised him a son, he's going to have a son. a holy confidence. Wouldn't we be wise, just in
all things, to leave these matters in the hand of a sovereign God? How often, no matter what the
case is, do we, well, I'll do this, or I'll go to this, rather
than just wait on the Lord. Just patiently wait on him. Abraham was fully persuaded. That means he was convinced. He was confident that what God
promised, he was able to perform. And you know what? He did. Didn't he? Gave him a son. He's able to perform all that
he promised. Well, second, turn with me to
Hebrews chapter 7. Hebrews chapter 7. Look at verse 25 of Hebrews 7. Wherefore, he is able also to
save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing
he ever liveth to make intercession for them. He is able, able to
save to the uttermost. Now there's a lot, there's a
lot in just this one verse of Scripture. First we see who He's
pleased to save. Who is Christ pleased to save?
Right here I read, them that come to God by Him, by Christ. Scripture declares neither is
there salvation in any other. No other name under heaven given
among men whereby we must be saved. We don't come to Him by
our so-called works of righteousness. What's that hint? Nothing. Nothing
in my hands I bring. Oh, not our works, not our religious
duty. We come to God by Christ. There's only one way, and that's
the Lord Jesus Christ. And it says here, He ever lives
to make intercession for His people. He pleads on our behalf. Christ appears before God on
the behalf of His elect. He pleads his righteousness.
He pleads his sacrifice. He pleads his blood. He ever
lives for this purpose, to make intercession on behalf of his
people. And that being said, that being
true, he is able to save to the uttermost. How far How far can salvation
go? We know He reached way down to
save us, don't we? What are the limits? What are
the boundaries of His saving power? Could He go into a prison and
save a man? We read in scripture that he
did, didn't we? Saved that old prison guard. Is there any limit to his saving
power? Christ is the Savior. He came to save. That's what
He came to do. Is there any limit to His power
to save? God's Word declares that He is
able to save again, to the uttermost. His love, listen to the words
of this, His love has no limits. His grace has no measure. His power has no boundary. known unto man. For out of his
infinite riches in the Lord Jesus Christ, what's the rest of that? He giveth, and he giveth, and
he giveth, and he giveth, and he giveth, and he giveth again. He is able to save. He is able
to heal. He is able to make whole. Is there any limit to our guilt?
Any limit to our shame, any limit to our sin? Aren't we thankful that there
is no limit to his power to save? Think about a few of these. Rahab,
and she's rarely referred to as Rahab, was she? It's always,
listen, throughout the scripture she's either called the harlot
Rahab, Or Rahab the harlot? She never got away from that
name, did she? Is there any question that she was a sinner? A sinner by birth? A sinner by
choice? A sinner by practice? You know,
men try. They take these scriptures and
they try to just explain them away. They try to say, well that
doesn't really mean that or that doesn't really... What does God's
word say? What was her name? Rahab the
harlot. Can't explain away who she is,
you can't explain what she was. A notorious sinner. Is there any limit to whom God
can save? What's scripture say? The Lord
Jesus Christ came to save sinners. Sinners. Seem to me like that's
a pretty good title to bear, isn't it? If that's who he was
pleased to come and save. Mercy to the miserable, grace
for the guilty. A few weeks ago, we read of a
man named Saul. He would later be renamed Paul,
the apostle. And he wreaked havoc on the church. And the Lord sent a man named
Ananias to him. And Ananias wasn't real excited
about this assignment, was he? He said, Lord, I've heard by
many about this man, how much evil he's done to the saints
at Jerusalem, and here, Right here where we're at, he has the
authority from the chief priest to bind all that call upon thy
name. Can the Lord save a man like
that? What did the Lord say to Ananias? He said, go thy way. He's a chosen vessel unto me. He's going to bear my name before
the Gentiles and kings and the children of Israel. And I'm going
to show him how great things he must suffer for my namesake. And you know, not only did God
save him, God in mercy saved him. He made that man a minister
of the gospel. He put him in the ministry. Paul
said in 1 Timothy 1.14, the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant
with faith and love, which is in Christ Jesus. We read in scripture of a woman
who was taken in adultery, in the very act. She never denied it. She never
contested it. But you know her accusers were
silenced. I ask you, what's the limits of his mercy?
What's the limits of whom he can save? What's the limit of
his power to save? Any question that this woman
was worthy of condemnation? worthy of death. That's what
the law said. The adulterer and the adulteress,
they were to be stoned. That's what the law says. But
listen to the words of the master. He said, he asked her, he said,
where are your accusers? They were gone, weren't they? And then he said this. Neither do I condemn thee." Can you imagine what relief she must have felt when she heard
those words from the Master? She knew she was guilty. She
knew she was worthy of death. And yet the Lord of Glory says,
neither do I condemn thee. Go and sin no more. And we could go on and on throughout
God's Word, sinner after sinner. Is there any limit? Is there
any limit to God's saving power? He is able, this is God's Word,
He is able to save to the uttermost. Turn to 2 Timothy. 2 Timothy
1, verse 12. 2 Timothy 1, 12. For the witch cause, I also suffer
these things. Nevertheless, I'm not ashamed,
for I know whom I have believed. And I'm persuaded that he is
able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that
day. able to keep. He is able to keep. Paul says, I'm persuaded. I'm
confident. I'm confident of this very thing.
He is able. He is able. The Lord Jesus Christ,
He is able. Able to keep every soul that
has been committed to Him. Those given Him by God the Father
in eternity past. He's able. He's able by virtue
of who He is. The Lord Jesus Christ is God. He's omnipotent to save. He's
able because of His work. What do we know of the work of
Christ? He declared it in His dying words
on the cross. He said, it's finished. He has
met all the demands of God's law and justice. And listen,
his plea is constant. And he ever prevails to preserve
his own. He is able, able to keep my soul,
able to keep me. even in the most difficult trials
when they come upon us. Paul said, he said, I suffer.
God's people suffer. He said, I suffer, but I'm not
ashamed for I am persuaded that he is able to keep. Able to keep
my soul even to the end of all things. He says against that
day. Are you persuaded? Are you persuaded
that he is able? Paul said he's able to keep.
Well, fourth, turn to the book of Philippians. Philippians chapter
three. Philippians 3, look at verse 21. Follow along with me here in
verse 21. It says, who shall change our vile body that it
might be fashioned like unto his glorious body. according to the working whereby
he is able even to subdue all things unto himself." He's able to raise our vile body
to be just like him. Our vile body, this body of humiliation,
this sinful body, You know, our Savior, he had a body of humiliation. He had a body like ours in all
respects except he could see no corruption. He's sinless. His body was not defiled like
ours is with sin. A body in which he wept, a body
in which he shed great drops of blood as tears. a body that he yielded up the
spirit in, the body of his humiliation. But he didn't remain in the grave.
It couldn't hold him. He is now exalted in heaven,
seated at the right hand of the majesty on high in the very presence
of God. And scripture says this, the
believer is going to be conformed to the very image of his son. We're going to be like him. We're
going to be made like Christ. All I can do is declare that.
I can't even begin to enter in to that. To have sin, absence
of sin, no more sin? To be like Christ. Paul wrote
in 1 Corinthians 15, he said, Behold, I show you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we're
all going to be changed in a moment. In the twinkling of an eye, at
the last trump, for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall
be raised, incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For
this corruptible, this corruption, must put on incorruption. This mortal must put on immortality. We're sown in corruption. and yet raised in incorruption,
sown in dishonor, raised to glory, sown in weakness. All these weak,
vile bodies, but it's going to be raised in power. It's sown
a natural body, but it's going to be raised a spiritual body. He is able to raise this vile
body to be like him. Don't those three words just
sound wonderful? He is able. Well, fifth, turn with me to
Jude, the book of Jude. Look at verse 24 and 25 of the
book of Jude. Verse 24. Now unto him that is
what? Able. Able to keep you from falling
and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory
with exceeding joy. To the only wise God, our Savior,
be glory and majesty and dominion and power both now and ever. Amen. Able to keep you from falling,
able able to present you faultless. He's able to keep his elect from
finally falling, and he is able to present us faultless in his
glorious presence. How often would we, do we, fall
into temptation? fall into sin, fall into error, and we fall from grace, listen,
were it not for His divine power. We cannot fall in Him. We must be kept, kept by the
power of Almighty God, he is able to keep you from falling. And he's able to present you
faultless. Faultless before the presence
of his glory. Faultless in the presence of
Almighty God, and listen, It says, with exceeding joy. Washed in His blood, justified
in His righteousness, faultless, faultless. And though we've sinned
in Adam, we truly have, and though we're guilty, though we're dead
in trespasses and sin, though we're prone to wander, Is it any wonder that Paul asks
this question, O wretched man that I am, who shall deliver
me from this body of death, this vile body, this body of sin and
corruption? How are we described? Nothing
but wounds and bruises and putrefying sores. They haven't been bound
up. They haven't been mollified with
ointment yet. Yet the believer is presented
by Christ in perfect holiness, in complete righteousness, in
shining robes of immortality and glory. And again, did you hear how?
The believer is presented not with regret, not with shame, not grudgingly. Have you ever
seen somebody introduce somebody that they really don't want to
introduce and it's so evident? You sure couldn't blame our Lord
for presenting us in that fashion. But listen, we're going to be presented with
exceeding joy in Him, in Christ, delivered,
delivered from sin, delivered from sorrow, delivered from every
enemy. How's that? Because He is able. Turn back with me to Matthew
chapter 9 and I'll close. Matthew chapter 9. Look beginning again. We'll finish
where we started. Matthew 9, 27. When Jesus departed
thence, two blind men followed him. crying, saying, Thou son of David,
have mercy on us. And when he was come into the
house, the blind men came to him. It would appear to me they
just continually sought him. And the Lord Jesus Christ said
to them, Believe ye. that I am able to do this. And they said unto him, yes,
yea, Lord, we believe. And he touched their eyes, saying,
according to your faith, be it unto you. And their eyes were
opened. And Jesus straightly charged
them, saying, see that no man knoweth. I'd ask you, I'd ask myself,
What the Lord Jesus Christ asked these blind men, do you believe
He's able? Do you believe He is able? Scripture declares this. He is. He is able. Come to Him. Come seeking mercy. Come knowing this, he is able. All right. I pray God would bless
his word. Brady, you come lead us in a
closing hymn.
