Caleb Hickman’s sermon titled "Everlasting Rest," based on Hebrews 4:1-11, focuses on the theological significance of God’s rest as a gift to His people. Hickman argues that just as faith is bestowed by God, so too is rest, which is marked by a complete cessation from personal works in the context of salvation. He references Hebrews 4:3, demonstrating that belief results in entering God's rest, emphasizing that this rest is everlasting because God’s works were finished from the foundation of the world. The practical significance of this message lies in the assurance it provides believers, as they are reminded that their salvation does not depend on personal merit but rather on the finished work of Jesus Christ, the ultimate source of their spiritual rest.

We're gonna be in the book of
Hebrews chapter four, if you would like to turn there. Hebrews chapter four. First hour,
we looked at faith. Without faith, it is impossible
to please God, the scripture says. Where does faith come from?
It comes from the Lord. Who does faith belong to? Faith
belongs to the Lord, and He freely gives it to His people. Who gets
all the glory for faith? The Lord does. This hour, I wanna
look at rest. The word rest is mentioned many
times here in the first 11 verses of our text. Rest is the gift
of God also. Without faith, it's impossible
to rest. Let's read our text, Hebrews
4, verses 1 through 11. Let us therefore fear, lest a
promise being left unto us of entering into his rest, any of
you should seem to come short of it. For unto us was the gospel
preached as well as unto them, but the word preached did not
profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard
it. For we, which have believed, do enter into rest. As he said,
as I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest,
although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise,
and God did rest the seventh day from all his works. And in
this place again, if they shall enter into my rest, seeing therefore,
it remaineth that some must enter therein. And they to whom it
was first preached entered not in because of unbelief. Again, he limiteth a certain
day saying, and David today, after so long a time, as it is
said today, if you will hear his voice, harden not your hearts. For if Jesus had given them rest,
then would they, would he not hear after He not afterward have
spoken of another day. There remaineth, therefore, a
rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his
rest, he also hath ceased from his own works as God did from
his. Let us labor therefore to enter
into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of
unbelief. First thing I wanna bring to
our attention is the way that rest is described in verse one. It's called his rest. Let us therefore fear lest a
promise being left unto us of entering into his rest. Any of you should seem to come
short of it. Just like faith, Belonging to God, coming from
God, being the gift of God by grace, so is rest. Rest for the Lord's people. Because
of its origin, because of its possessor, because of its creator,
rest is everlasting because the Lord is everlasting. And that's
what I've titled this message, Everlasting Rest. God has never
changed. He's the same yesterday, today,
and forever. He changes not. In verse three, he says that
the works, the works of God were finished from the foundation
of the world. He said, I am the Lord, I change
not. Everything that the Lord purposed,
You and I attempt many things. We attempted to come to service
this morning. We attempted to, I attempted
to walk down the stairs. I've fallen downstairs before.
It's an attempt. Everything the Lord does, regardless of what
it is, it's never an attempt. It's never an attempt. He can't
fail or he's not God. He can't fail or he's not God.
Everything that he does is the same yesterday, today and forever.
Because of this, his rest is everlasting as well. If his rest
is now, that's what his rest always has been and what his
rest always will be. Now the first hour. We heard the way to enter into
this rest, the gospel being preached, being mixed with faith. That's
how we enter into the rest of the Lord. The Lord must enable
us, the Lord must cause us to enter in. He says here in verse
three, for we which have believed do enter into rest. Somebody said, well, all you
have to do is believe. That is absolutely true. Believe on the
Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved. But how can they believe
on whom they've not heard? This isn't a hearing of the ear,
this is a hearing of the heart. How shall they hear without a
preacher, a gospel preacher preaching the truth? And how shall he preach
except God be the one that sent him? There's the answer to the
question. All I have to do is believe,
yes, but believing is the gift of God. Believing and rest are
the same thing, aren't they? If you're believing, are you
not resting? If you're looking to Christ, are you not resting?
Or if you're coming to Christ, it's not something you're doing
in the flesh, it's resting, isn't it? That's coming to Christ as
well. We must be enabled, must be caused to, and you know it's
true, we must be made to, made to rest. Somebody said, well,
all the time in life, I go through troubles and things happen. I
want to rest more in Christ. I want to believe more. And that's
the battle, isn't it? It's two-sided. We have a war
going on inside of us, as it was mentioned before. It's a
tug of war, if you will, but truly the work's already finished.
We know the new man prevails. The elder shall serve the younger,
the scripture says. We want to believe more. We want
to rest more. We must be made to by the Lord.
It's not a decision that we make. If it was a decision that we
make to rest in Christ, would you rest in Christ all the time?
Yes. It was up to me all the time.
I would never take my eyes off of him. You know, that's what
heaven's gonna be. That's what heaven's gonna be, resting in
Christ for eternity. Isn't that great? That's glorious,
isn't it? Never, just never not resting. That's what we'll be doing, resting.
Only Noah, you remember Noah, only Noah and his family were
chosen to be given rest in the ark, chosen to be saved out of
God's grace. Nobody else believed in the ark.
Nobody else rested in the ark. Noah believed God's word, the
ark of safety. Come into the ark and live. Noah
and his family were made to say truth, Lord. And they came into
the ark. Abraham had two brothers, did
you know that? They were in the Ur of the Chaldees,
the scripture says. He had two brothers, but Abraham
was the only one of those idolaters that was called out of darkness
into light. Lord left the other two right
there in there. They left them there. And Abraham
was called out. The Lord said, you're going to go to a place
that you know not with people that you know not. I'm going
to make you a great and mighty nation. You're going to have a son. And
through that son is going to come the Messiah and make you
a great nation. He said, I'm going to make your
seed as the stars of the heaven and the sands of the sea. He
wasn't talking about the physical nation Israel, he was talking
about spiritual Israel. Lord Jesus Christ's chosen people
from the foundation of the world. It was all by faith, wasn't it?
Why did Abraham believe God? Well, it was faith given. Scripture
says, Abraham believed God and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
Now, the translation there, counted, is also the word reckoned. It
was reckoned unto him. The Lord reckoned faith unto
him. Therefore, Abraham believed God.
The only way you and I believe is if it's given. If it's given. Faith is imparted, imputed. It's
God's choice. Moreover, it's God's choice to
love. Jacob was loved and Esau was not. Why did God love Jacob? Because he was a good guy. Actually,
he was a liar and a thief and a trickster and a supplanter.
So why would God love him? Why would God love you and I?
Mercy, grace. That's why he chose to, that
he might have vessels of mercy, all for his glory, all for his
glory. Jacob was loved of God, therefore
God gave him faith to believe. This is why Jacob and God's people
truly rest. The picture of Jacob sleeping
on the rock, dreaming about the ladder going up to and from,
going up to heaven and the angels ascending and descending. He
was sleeping on the rock. Is that not what we rest upon
is the rock of ages, the Lord Jesus Christ. That's our rest.
It doesn't make any sense. Why would Jacob take a rock as
a, as a pillow? You know why, if you're a believer,
that's our only place to rest, isn't it? But it's not soft to
the flesh. No, the flesh hates it. It wasn't
comfortable. Jacob probably woke up with a
crick in his neck. But the things he saw whenever he was resting
on that rock, not compared to that, that crick didn't matter,
did it? No. Things we see when we're resting
on the Lord, we just see his glory, his mercy, his grace,
his truth, and we rejoice. We rest in him. Now, because of unbelief, which
is the opposite of faith, the opposite of resting, many come
short of the rest of God. But God's people are made to
rest. They must enter. And verse three
tells us why. Look at verse three. For we which
have believed do enter into rest as he said, as I have sworn in
my wrath if they should enter to my rest, although the works
were finished from the foundation of the world. God swore that
his people would enter into his rest. God cannot lie. God cannot lie. God's elect are
made to rest on the same thing that God rests on, his Sabbath,
the Lord Jesus Christ. Look at what resting, somebody
said, what does resting look like? Well, look at verse 10,
we're gonna come back up, but look at verse 10. How do I know
if I'm resting? Here's your answer. For he that
has entered into his rest has also ceased from his own works.
That's what rest looks like. Ceasing, desisting, not doing
anything, not adding to or taking away from the Sabbath, the Lord
Jesus Christ, but resting on him completely. Then he says
these words, let us labor, therefore, to enter into that rest. And
men will take that and say, OK, well, we need to work really
hard to enter into the rest. Well, that doesn't make any sense.
That's exactly the opposite of resting, isn't it? Now, you know
what the word labor means there? And I love this. It means hasten.
Sit down really fast. Stop working right now. See,
now is the time of salvation, the Lord says. Right now. Cease
right now. Don't move. Don't move, rest
right now. That's what he's saying. Jude
said it this way, we earnestly contend for the faith. How do
we earnestly contend for the faith? We hasten to rest in Christ
every moment of every day. Understand this, whenever you
hear, Gospel preachers say, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, it's
the same thing as saying, rest on the Lord Jesus Christ. When
you hear preachers say, come to Christ, it's the same thing
as rest in Christ. When you hear a preacher say,
gospel preacher say, look to the Lord Jesus Christ and live,
it's saying the same thing, rest. Rest in him, trust in him alone. And what do we trust him for?
The simplest way we could say it is everything. Everything. We trust him for our righteousness.
We trust him for our wisdom. We don't know anything. We trust
him for our sanctification. We're not getting better, we're
getting worse in the flesh, aren't we? We've already been sanctified
in Christ Jesus, the new man has. Somebody said, well, if
you're a believer, then that's gonna spill over into your daily
life and you're just gonna keep getting better and better until
one day the Lord says, okay, you're fit for heaven now. I
heard somebody say that recently. Actually, it's quite the opposite.
The flesh gets worse and worse and worse, but the new man is
renewed every single day, brand new, every single day, and the
elder shall serve the younger. No, we look to Christ for our
sanctification. We don't look to ourself to see
if we're being sanctified. We've been sanctified in Christ
already. We don't look for goodness in and of ourself. All the hope
that we have before God, the hope that we have before his
holy throne of judgment and justice is found in one place, in one
person. We must be resting. We must be resting in that one
person, the Lord Jesus Christ. On the other hand, you have unbelief,
unbelief. Well, rest is the blessing that
unbelief misses. Whenever you're full of unbelief,
you have fear, you have doubts, you have troubles, you're frustrated,
maybe you're angry, disappointed, discouraged, weary. This is all
part of of unbelief, every bit of it. Rest is the gift of the Lord.
You and I know that if we could, we would rest all the time. And
yeah, it's true, we do grow weary in our journey, but, and perhaps
that's not necessarily unbelief. We grow tired, but, oh, faith
just looks to Christ. No matter what you're feeling
or what you're thinking or how your day is going, faith just
looks to the Lord. Rest is the gift of God by grace
to his people. He tells us here clearly that entering
in, entering into this everlasting rest means that you have ceased
your work, ceased. The question is, are you doing
anything? Am I doing anything as part of my salvation? If I
am, I'm not resting. Well, did I do anything? as part
of my salvation. If I did, I'm still not resting. Am I going to do something as
part of my salvation? If that's the case, I am not
resting and you are not resting. Entering into his everlasting
rest means that we have ceased all work. I had a thought as I was studying
this to be enabled to rest. Resting is worship. Think about
that. Whenever you're resting, you're
looking to Christ alone. That's worshiping him. That's
bowing to him. That's clinging to him at that
moment. That's worship. That's what that is. Like all
the gifts of the Lord, resting is the evidence of salvation,
not the cause of it. You have to rest first to be
saved. How's a dead man going to rest? I suppose they're They're
dead, they're not resting, you have to be alive to rest. I guess
they say laid to rest, but you understand what I'm saying. No,
to rest in the Lord, to rest in the Lord is not the cause,
it is the evidence of salvation. And the only reason that we're
unable to rest is God has given us the ability to. Otherwise,
we never would, we never will. We rest in the flesh when we
grow tired, when we grow weary. We get our 40 hours in in a week,
some of us, and sometimes more than that, sometimes less than
that. I've determined that, especially the mother's job starts at about,
I don't want to say this wrong, about six o'clock in the morning-ish.
And it don't end until about 10 o'clock at night. And the
only reason I brought that up is because the rest that we required
is determined by how much effort we put forth. The work can't
be finished. I fuss at my wife sometimes.
She's sitting there, and I'm like, what are you doing? It's
9 o'clock. She's like, well, this needs to go here, and that needs to
go there. And I'm like, it can sit there till tomorrow. It's
going to be just fine. No, it has to be done. And I'm sitting
there in the chair, and I'm kind of feeling bad that I'm not helping
her, but I'm tired. I don't want to get up. And that's
just fine sitting there. But she has to get it done in
her mind. And the point I'm making is, is we finally rest whenever
we get our work done. Is that not true? The day's done. The work's done. Perhaps we've
eaten supper. Perhaps we go sit in our favorite chair. Perhaps
we don't. Maybe we sit. I don't know. But I think it's
very true. Everybody can relate and understand.
We don't sit down until our work is done. When you see the Lord
Jesus Christ, there is no work to be done. There is nothing
to be done in salvation. There's no work that you can
contribute to. To contribute is actually to
miss the rest of Christ. It's to miss resting in him.
So why did the Lord Why did the Lord rest? Was he weary? Was
he tired? No, his work was finished from
the foundation of the world. That's what he said. You and
I desire in our flesh to rest once we see that we've been productive,
that we've got our job done, that we've accomplished something
and we get gratification for that. And that's in the flesh.
That's what men want to do with salvation. And it's not true
in salvation. It doesn't become time to rest because we've done
enough in salvation. To be saved is literally to do
nothing. Look to the Lord Jesus Christ,
to rest on him immediately. Don't add to or take away. Now
that is contrary to the flesh because the flesh wants to see
some evidence of some kind. Whether it's a wall that we've
painted, look at the work I've done now, I can sit down. Whether
it's supper that we cooked or dinner as some of you call it.
Whatever it is, that's finished. Dishes are up. I can sit down
now. When it comes to salvation, there's nothing to be done. You're
not gonna be able to put your hand to it in any way. I'm not
gonna be able to put my hand to it because in doing so, we've
tainted the rest. We've tainted the sacrifice.
We can't add to or take away. No, this is a house well furnished
by God's grace alone. Everything is in place. There's
not a speck of dust in this house. There's no work to be done whatsoever.
It's perfect. You have one responsibility,
rest. And that is the opposite of working.
And only by the Lord's grace can we find ourself resting in
the Lord Jesus Christ alone. Otherwise, we'll pick up a duster,
start trying to dust. It's already perfect, don't touch
it. That's what we'll do in the flesh. We'll try to go make a
bed that's already been made. We'll do something, we gotta
find something. No, no, leave it all alone, just rest. Rest
in the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ. Rest in his house,
purchased by his own blood. It's his salvation. Everlasting rest of God is the
free gift of God's grace through faith. It looks on things unseen,
not things seen. You're never going to see evidence
in your life by looking to it. And it's by great designs of
grace that it's that way because we would be puffed up in pride,
you're never going to we're never going to see evidence in our
life that we are believers, not going to see it. People try to
carry trinkets around. They try to get tattoos. They
say, well, I've been to church 487 times in a row and I haven't
missed one service. They have their name on a pew.
They have a plaque on the wall. Whatever it may be, they're trying
to get some gratification, some evidence that they are a believer.
They go up to the preacher and say, I don't feel saved today.
And the preacher says, yeah, but you've already marked that
down. You prayed a prayer. You did this or that. None of that's
resting. That's all the lie. You won't
find evidence looking at yourself whether you are a believer or
not. The evidence of salvation is that the Lord resurrected
his son. The evidence of, you wanna know if you're a believer,
what are you looking to? Who are you looking to? What
are you doing? Are you resting in Christ? Are
you looking to Christ or are you looking to something else?
Are you resting in something that you have done? One little
thing. That's all the believer does is look to Christ as all
in salvation. This is what it's being explained
here. In verse three through four, for we which have believed
to enter into his rest, we enter into rest as he said, as I have
sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest, Although
the works were finished from the foundation of the world,
for he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise,
and God did rest the seventh day from all his work. If God
sat down on the Sabbath day and rested on Jesus Christ, what
is our, and it says his work is finished. What does finished
mean? These are simple words. Aren't you glad the word of God
is simple? He gives us just simple words
here that we can understand. He didn't make it where you can't
understand it. No, he says the work is finished.
God sat down on the Sabbath. If you want to enter into his
rest, you have to rest on the Sabbath, the Lord Jesus Christ.
It's that simple. There's nothing to be done. This
is the everlasting rest of God. You can't add to or take away
from it. No, God didn't grow tired and
weary. He didn't get discouraged and
sat down. So well, I need to take a break
for a little while. And then I'm going to stand back
up and start pacing the floor so that to give you an opportunity
for salvation to let me be your God. No, no, the work is finished. Everyone that Christ Jesus died
for has been redeemed. He's not getting off the throne.
He's seated as the successful Redeemer. The only time he's
going to get back up is when he returns for his bride, for
his people. When the last sheep's called,
he's going to return. We're going to hear the trumpet
like we were talking in the men's study this morning. Hear the
trumpet of the Lord. Be made in his likeness. There's
rest in that. There's nothing to be done. God
doesn't grow tired. He sat down because his work
was finished. Salvation is secure. And he says
from the foundation of the world, Ephesians chapter one tells us
before time ever began. Second Timothy one nine tells
us the same thing. Before the world ever began,
God was resting on the Lord Jesus Christ in order for you and I
to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. We must have his faith
and we must be found resting completely upon him just as the
Lord did. What did the Lord say on the
cross of Calvary? Well, we know that the works were finished
from the foundation of the world, but also the work was accomplished
in time. The Lord made time in order to
accomplish that which was finished before time. Somebody said, can
you explain that? Well, I can allow, I can, Proclaim
it, and we believe it. Faith just believes it. What
did the Lord say on the cross of Calvary? It is finished. That one word, it, there's all
our hope. Everything given to him, everything
charged to him of the Father, everything required for the salvation
of his people, every ordinance kept, every law, everything God required
for you and I was kept by the Lord Jesus Christ. He said, it
is finished. Now, if something is finished,
what are you going to add to it? Now I do understand that
some things in life, and I guess it's true that you and I can't
really enter into something that's truly finished. And I'll give
you an example. Um, when you build a house and
the inspector comes at the very end of the house and he checks
everything off and he says, okay, it's finished. I'm walking away
from it. Is it really finished at that
point? Do you ever have to do anything else to that house as
long as you live? Well, yeah, yeah, I gotta, I
mean, it's gonna weather. It's gonna decay, things are
gonna break. I got dogs, maybe they mess up a wall. I got kids,
maybe they get a crayon and mark, I gotta paint now. The house
is, nothing's ever finished in this life, is it? Not really,
think about it. Piano over here is finished.
Well, it looks like it needs to be painted or it needs to
be tuned up again. You understand what I'm saying?
Everything about our life, we can't grasp what finished really
is. When it comes to salvation, it's really, truly finished. It's done. It's over. There's
nothing to add to or take away. We can't do anything to it. Can't
touch it. We can't mess it up. It's really
finished. And everything furnished in the
Lord's house in this great salvation is exactly the way it has been
from the foundation of the world and will be through all eternity.
Believing that is how we enter into the everlasting rest of
God. To enter into this rest is to
be satisfied with what God was satisfied with, what's God satisfied
with? Is he satisfied with you? Is
he satisfied with me? What we do, what we don't do,
what we say, what we don't say? Well, if that's the case, then
Christ didn't have to come and die. If he can be satisfied with
what I do, if I can please him before, during, or after salvation
because of what I do in and of myself, what I possess, what
I am, Christ did not have to come and die then. He is only
pleased with Christ. He's only pleased with the faith
of Christ given to his people. We call it our faith, but it's
bestowed, isn't it? Lord gave it to us as a free
gift. To enter into his rest is to be satisfied with the blood
of Christ alone, to cease all labor and salvation. It is to
believe in Christ to finish work, not our works, but his. Understand to approach God with
any kind of works whatsoever. any kind of works whatsoever
is to not rest in Jesus Christ. It's to deny that the blood was
successful is what it is. It's blasphemy. It's the insult
to the Lord. That's what the lie does is it
insults Christ. It's to say Christ didn't finish
salvation. It's to say God needs our help
in saving us. But we know the truth like David.
What did David say? Psalm 38, there's no soundness
in my flesh because of thine anger. There's no rest in my
bones because of my sin. I can't rest in myself because
of my sin. Lord, you're gonna have to take
away my sin. The miracle of grace is that
we deny ourself. We say, I am the sinner. And
we literally side with God against ourself. It's hard to understand that,
isn't it? We literally side. We say, Lord, I am the man. I'm the guilty one. I deserve
death. There is no way that someone
would do that other than by the free gift of God's grace, taking
side with God, standing beside him against yourself. This is the gift of God. This
is something he creates in the heart of his people. And just
in the first creation, I mentioned this Wednesday night, and I wanna
elaborate on this just for a moment, What part did we have in the
first creation? Ask yourself that. What did you
contribute in the first creation when God created the world? Somebody
said, well, I don't believe God created the world. Well, that's
another problem entirely. We have to back up a little bit
then. What do you believe you contributed
in the first creation? Anything? What could you have?
Now, let's put it that way. What if you were there with the
Lord? During the first creation, are
you going to be able to divide the sands from the sea? Are you
going to be able, am I going to be able to number the stars?
Are you and I going to be able to speak the light into existence? What could we have contributed?
Now we know we didn't contribute anything, but what could we have
contributed? That sounds kind of silly whenever
you sit there and you talk about it. Could we create an animal?
Well, maybe I could have got mud and put it together and had
some kind of animal-looking thing. Well, could you breathe life
into it? You make it alive? We couldn't have helped God in
any way, could we? But that's exactly what men are saying when
it comes to salvation, that they have to do their part, that God
would be successful in salvation. We had no part in the first creation.
We have no part in the second creation, the new man, created
in righteousness in Christ Jesus. It's all by him. We are formed
in him, by him, and for his glory. And he breathed the breath of
life into us, just as he did the first man, Adam. And we become
a living soul. We have no part in this where
we contribute. And we can't take away from it.
What can we take away from the first creation? Men say, well,
the world You know, global warming, the world's gonna burn up. Well,
it's gonna burn up, but a lot faster than they think it is.
It's gonna have, burn with a fervent heat, the scripture says. No,
the man can't undo what God has done. They've tried from the
beginning. They've tried from the beginning. No, God's, God,
he's seated, he's successful in everything that he purposed,
he's accomplished, including salvation. We are abundantly powerless when
it come to the first creation and abundantly powerless even
infinitely more when it comes to spiritual things. We must
be given faith and faith believes he created all things for his
glory. He created a dead dog sinner that needed a savior and
he is the way that saves that sinner and makes them the very
righteousness of God in him. This is what he did for his elect,
for his people, every one of them. This faith believes him and enters
into his everlasting rest by one way, looking unto Jesus,
the author and the finisher. He's not the author and you put
in your chapter that you would like. He's not the author and
we have a page that we fill in. This is done. This is finished.
He's the author and finisher of faith. Now in closing, I wanna
go through five and six briefly and then down through seven through
11. Verse five says, and in this place again, if they shall enter
into my rest, seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter
therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not
in because of unbelief. God's people must, must. That's so comforting. If I'm
his, I must enter in to his rest. I must. Why? Because he swore
it would be so. I must. You must. You must. If you're his, you
must. Now then, he gives us a warning and a conclusion. Verse seven. Again, he limiteth a certain
day, saying to David, today, after so long a time, as it is
said, today, if you will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
For if Jesus had given them rest, then he would not Would he not
afterward had spoken of another day, there remaineth therefore
a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered in to
his rest, he has also ceased from his own works as God did
from his. Let us labor therefore to enter
into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of
unbelief. The word that he says here where
the Lord limited verse seven, again, he limited a certain day.
That word limited means to define, to define the Lord, defined a
certain day. And how did he define it? Today is the day of salvation.
Now is the appointed time. If you hear his word, harden,
not your heart come to Christ. He drew the line, the scripture
says. That's what that word limiteth mean. He drew the line. He says,
no, here is salvation found only in Christ. And he defined it
as today is the day of salvation. Don't harden your heart. Enter
into his everlasting rest. Ow. Stop looking at yourself. Stop looking at what we do, what
we are, as hope for eternal life. You'll never find it there. You'll
never find it there. Look unto Christ. You ever heard
the song, me and God have a good thing going? Stop pretending
like we have a good thing going, it's not true. No, he's other
than we are. He's higher than that, he's holy.
He's holy. Cease and desist all notion that
adding to or taking away from the finished work of Christ will
help you. It'll hurt you, it'll kill you. Whether it's doing something
as part of salvation before, during, or after, it's a lie,
we can't. No, enter into the everlasting
rest of God, the Sabbath, his Sabbath, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Well, how do I do that? Well, how do I know that I've
entered into his rest? Because you believe on the Lord
Jesus Christ as all your hope before God. And you are not adding
one thing to or taking one thing away from it. And the Lord said,
believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved. If you're
believing, you've entered into his everlasting rest. It's his
promise. If you're believing, he said,
believe and you'll be saved. And he's the doer of it, isn't
he? And he gets all the glory. Let's pray. Father, cause us
to enter into your everlasting rest. And we know that if we
do, then we always have according to your purpose. Thank you. In
Christ's name, amen.
