7 Distinct Truths- Heb. 1:1-5

In Caleb Hickman's sermon titled "The Word of His Power," the focus is on the fifth distinct truth from Hebrews 1:1-5 which emphasizes the dual nature of Christ as both fully God and fully man, underscoring His authority and ability to uphold all things by His word. Hickman articulates the importance of trusting in Christ's power, noting how human relationships often shape one's reliability and expectations but ultimately differ from Christ's perfect faithfulness. By examining verses that illustrate Jesus' sovereign command over creation and His fulfillment of promises, such as Hebrews 1:3 and John 19:30, the preacher highlights the significance of Christ's reliability as the foundation of Christian faith. Practically, Hickman encourages believers to place their confidence not in their own actions or trustworthiness but solely in the certainty of Christ's completed work on the cross.

We'll be in the book of Hebrews
again this morning if you want to turn there. We're looking at the seven distinct
truths found in Hebrews 1 verses 1 through 5. We're on number
5, the fifth distinct truth. The fifth distinct truth is the
Unmistakable description, the fifth distinct truth of the Lord
Jesus Christ. It's his office and authority
describes his deity and his humanity in being the God man, one in
the same describes his ability and power, his ability and power. Look in verse three, if you would.
First hour, we looked at who being the express image, who
being the brightness of his glory and the express image of his
person. And this hour, we're going to look at these words
and upholding all things by the word of his power. I've titled
this message, the word of his power. He, the Lord Jesus Christ,
upheld all things pertaining to God, pertaining to salvation,
pertaining to promises made, pertaining to the covenant of
grace. The Lord Jesus Christ upheld all things by the word
of his power. When do you and I take someone
at their word? When do you and I take someone
at their word? Somebody gives you their word, or they make
a promise to you, or they make a commitment to you, or they
say, hey, I'll be there at such and such time to help you. I
will do what I need to do to give you aid in your time of
need. When do you take someone at their
word? Well, you do it based upon their
track record, don't you? You do it based upon the confidence
you have towards that person. We do take people at their word
when we look at their history of keeping their word, their
consistency in honoring their word. We do it based upon the
confidence that we have in their character, the confidence that
we have in their character. If my daughter says that she's
gonna wire up my electrical panel, I believe that she has the best
intentions, but I don't believe that she's going to be able to
do that. Doesn't mean that I don't have confidence in her character.
Just means that she can't honor her word because she's unable.
So we have to take someone at their word and trust them when
we have confidence that they are able. That's who we trust
is someone that is able, someone who we are confident in, someone
who has told us the truth time and time again, someone that
has not betrayed our trust. Now, Everything about us, humanly
speaking, everything about us trusting others is based upon
what we see, physically speaking, based upon what others do. If
I see that you and I, you see that I don't do what I say I'm
gonna do, that's how you make your determination of whether
or not I'm trustworthy. So really everything comes down
to the trustworthiness of an individual, whether we trust
them or not. Our confidence is either placed or not placed as
a direct result of our confidence in them because of their trustworthiness. A direct result of their trustworthiness. Now I know that everybody in
here probably knows somebody, when I say this, somebody's gonna
pop in your mind, and I'm sorry for causing that person to pop
in your mind, but how many people do you know, and at least one
I would imagine, where they gave you their word They said, I'm
going to be there. I'm going to help. I can do this. I can
do that. And then they don't show. And you know that that
person, and they told that to you, that you didn't have any
confidence in them, no matter who it was. You're like, that's
not going to happen. Oh, I'm going to be there. No,
I'm going to help you. You just let me know. I'll lend a hand. You're just like, no, you're
not. No, you're not. Maybe they have the best intentions.
Maybe they really have the best intentions, but they just can't
follow through. They can't, for whatever reason, for one reason
or another, they just cannot seem to follow through. Sometimes
they can, sometimes they can't. Maybe they will show, maybe they
won't. Oh, you came. Well, eventually you lower your
expectations, don't you? Somebody says, I'm going to come.
And one time we were buying a house in Florida, and we needed some
help cleaning the house. The house was not necessarily
dirty, but like anybody moving into a new place, you want to
make sure that it's clean to my wife's standards. It has to
be clean to her standards. You understand what I'm saying?
And it was not clean to her standards. And so we called upon some people.
And some people said, yeah, we'll be there next Saturday. Sure
thing. And like two people shows up. And they said, oh, well,
we forgot the person that can come. We forgot. Or, oh, we had
this that came up. Or, oh, you know, whatever. And
so the next time that we needed help cleaning a house, we thought,
OK, so it's going to be us and the two that showed up last time.
And that's kind of what happens in life whenever people let you
down or they don't keep their word, you begin to lose confidence
in those people. Well, we can't really, and maybe
you say, okay, well, one time, you know, we'll just overlook
it, but the next time it happens again. And then the next time
it happens again, and eventually you're like, okay, they're not
going to come. They're not going to keep their word. And I do
have a point with this, where I'm going. Even though they had the best
intentions, we know sometimes people's going to let us down.
We couldn't take them at their word. Our expectations of people
are completely based upon the one who promised it, their office
or their title. Early on, we trusted mom and
dad, didn't we? Trusted our mother and father in their word. Dad
says, I'm going to do this. Our expectations is dad's going
to do this. We trusted our mom. Mom says she's going to do this.
Our expectations. His mom's going to do that. And it was based
upon childlike faith. That was who we, for lack of
better word, idolized. That was who we looked up to. That's who we had confidence
in was our parents. As we get older, we realize mom
and dad didn't walk on water. You know, they had their flaws
and you love them past their flaws. And this is, I'm not,
I know everybody in here understands what I'm talking about. As we do grow, we're taught and
learned who to trust and who not to trust. If the president
says, I'm going to lower taxes, do you have confidence? I'm not talking about this president.
I'm not getting political. I'm saying if a president says,
I'm going to lower taxes, do you have confidence that that
president's going to lower taxes? Well, you'd like to, wouldn't
you? He's the president. You'd like to have confidence.
What is your expectation after hearing politics? And the two
offices, the two jobs that lie and get paid for it are politicians
and weathermen. And we continue to pay for it. I mean, we turn on the weather
expecting to know exactly what's going to happen. Only one person's
in control of the weather. Only one person's in charge of
the weather. But thankfully, they're close sometimes. You know what I'm saying? But
get what I'm saying here. We still turn it on to see what
the weatherman says. We still turn it on to see what
the politicians say. What is my point? My point is the office
or the position that someone is in determines your confidence. If you turn on the TV and you
see me as the weatherman up there, you're not going to have a lot
of confidence. And Caleb, I've not been to school. I don't have
a clue what I'm talking about. It'd be very obvious. But you have
a little bit of confidence in the guy that's there because
he understands how the jet stream works and all the other things
that involve weather. And that shows my ignorance.
I don't know much about it. If you have a little bit of confidence
in them, Another, and I don't want to
spend too much time on this, but another example I'll give
you is our spouses. And I smile because I throw myself
under the bus here. I use the words, I'll get around
to it. My wife says, I got a honeydew list on the fridge. And I'll
say, I'll get around to it. Now in the South, and I don't know
if I've seen anything like this up here, so I have to explain
this. But in the South, that became such a joke that they
got a little piece of wood and cut it about the size of a half
dollar and literally wrote round to it on it so that the spouse
could hand it to the other one and say well here's your round
to it and I go fix it. Get a round to it. I hate to say that often
times when I say that I have the best intentions of actually
following through and I do eventually. Might not be in her time but
I get to it eventually. And you all understand what I'm
saying. There may be times where I misplaced something and she
says, where did you put it? And I said, well, I know I left
it right here. And as soon as I say that, where does her mind
go? Well, her mind goes, yeah, but
the last time he said that, he really didn't leave it right
there. Or the time before that, he really didn't leave. And so
everything about our relationships is determined by our expectations
of someone being trustworthy, someone's honesty, someone following
through. But there's a problem with our
expectations of others because we're all flawed and we're born
liars, every one of us, by nature, whether we mean to or not. The
example I would give us is how many of you in here had to teach
your children to lie? How many of you? Not a single
one of us. No, we come from the womb speaking lies unintentionally.
It's our nature to lie. It's our nature to get out of
trouble. It's our nature to, for self-glory, really, self-praise,
and anything that gives us something less than self-glory and self-praise,
if it makes us look bad, by nature, we try to weasel our way out
of it, don't we? What about the Lord, though? What about the
Lord? He can't lie. He can't lie. He's perfect. And he upheld all
things by the word of his power. He was deemed completely worthy,
completely trustworthy to redeem his people in so much that before
time they were redeemed. That's how the father viewed
it. Before the foundation of the world, we were given to Christ
in Christ for our salvation, the Lord's people. Now, unlike the Lord, you and
I, and I'm gonna say this and be the last thing I, I hope I,
last time I bring this up, but whenever we examine one another,
we examine the nature of a person. We examine the character of a
person. If I tell my wife I'll take care of something, I say
I'll handle it. Men, listen, women don't forget,
okay? Women remember, and now you all
have a wonderful gift in that. It's a curse for us men, but
every time that I say those words to her, I'll take care of it,
she's like, oh yeah, like you did 16 years ago when we were on
the side of the road? I'm like, 16 years ago? I can't
even remember that. She doesn't do that often, but
you understand what I'm saying. Women don't forget. Aren't you
glad the Lord's never made a mistake? Aren't you glad the Lord's always
kept his word? Aren't you glad that we can never,
nothing could be brought into his account wherewith it's negative,
every bit of it's positive. And because of what he's done,
when our adversary stands before the Lord and accuses us of sinning,
when our adversary stands before the Lord and accuses the brethren,
accuses the Lord's elect of doing something Not holding their word,
not holding up the end of their bargain, not doing something
right because they've sinned. The Lord says, no, they haven't.
No, they've kept it all perfectly righteous in the Lord Jesus Christ,
not one sin. Every time he says, all that
you are is sin, all that you do is lie, the Lord says, no,
no, they're full of truth and grace because they're in the
Lord Jesus Christ. Either we're making excuses because
of our failures. You've heard the excuse before.
No one's perfect. At least I'm not like so and
so. Nobody's perfect. There's one that is. The Lord
Jesus Christ. And we've got to be in him. That's
true. No one's perfect in the sense of being born of the flesh
of Adam's blood. But we must be found perfect
before the law, perfect in the eyes of the Lord. And there's
only one that upheld all things by the word of His power, every
word that proceeded out of His mouth was upheld because He was
the only one that had the power to do so. We can't uphold anything by the
word of our power, can we? We might have the best intentions.
I'm gonna let you down, you're gonna let me down. But boy, He
never let us down, did He? He never let the Father down,
did He? He upheld all things by the word of His power. The truth about you and I is
we can't know the truth, we can't speak the truth unless the Lord
gives us his truth. You and I are false, you and
I are a lie, he is the truth. He is the truth and that truth
is a gift, all by grace he gives to his people. What is the truth?
What is the truth that Christ Jesus upheld all things by the
word of his power? We believe that, don't we? I
believe everything that he purposed to do, he successfully did. It
wasn't an attempt, it wasn't a try, he accomplished it. And
now, you and I have the truth in the Lord Jesus Christ. What is our hope? What is our
hope? That we made a promise to God?
That I, with the word of my power, really determined to do something
for God? Is that my hope? No, my hope
is that he upheld all things by the word of his power. Can we trust our heart? No, everybody
has the same heart. It's just desperately wicked,
it's deceitful. It's deceitful. I can trust his heart. I can
trust his heart. His heart honored the Father
in all things. He believed God in all things. He trusted God
in all things. Brethren, there is not one single
honest person in hell. Did you know that? Because only
those who are honest are the ones who's been given the Lord's
truth. Only those who are honest are the ones who are looking
to the word of His power, not to their own word, not to their
own self. An honest person has looked at
themselves and saw themselves as a sinner by God-given repentance
through grace, by faith, and looks to Christ only as their
righteousness. That's an honest person. With
that being said, there's no honest people in hell for that reason.
Everybody else had something else that they were holding on
to, something that they examined and found themselves worthy of
salvation with. Wherewith? They're not honest. They're not honest. They upheld
something by the word of their power, and it's just not true.
God's the only one that can make us honest, and he does it by
grace. Gives us repentance and faith. Our hope is this. The same power
that he upheld his word with is the same power he speaks his
word to us with. I'm gonna say that again. The
same word that he upheld, the same power he upheld his word
with. All of his promises kept. Everything accomplished. It's
the same exact power where with he says to you and I, live, live. The contingency for our salvation
is not upon us. It's upon him saying live. And
the good news is is it's, All that the Father gave me will
come to me. No man come to the Father but by me. He's gonna
speak the word of power into them. He speaks the word of power
to his people. I use this analogy the first
hour, and I told you I got ahead of myself, but I'm gonna use
this analogy again. Mary, whenever she came to find Jesus in the
tomb, the stone was rolled away and two angels were sitting there,
and she saw the angels, and as she turned, she asked the angels,
where is he? And they said, he's risen. He's not here, he's risen.
And she turns and she sees a man. It's the Lord Jesus Christ, and
she thinks it's the gardener. And she says, where have you
laid him? Where have you taken him? And he revealed himself
by saying, it is I, it is I. If he doesn't speak the word
of power to you and my heart, we're never gonna see him. We're
never gonna know him. We're going to thank God as we
are, make him like us, and we're gonna base our dependency on
him based upon what we can physically see. And what I mean by that
is, is all false religion It says, if you'll do, God will
bless you. If you'll do, God will then honor
his word to save you. If you do, God will do this. Salvation is not contingent upon
what you and I do. It's not contingent upon our
word or our power, either one. It's based completely upon the
word of his power, his doing, his calling, his keeping, his
saving. He must do the speaking. It's
not based upon me and you. Mary couldn't see Jesus. Mary
didn't know who he was. How many times has she spent
time with him and spoke to him and heard his voice, and yet
she couldn't believe him until he said, it is I. That's our
dependency upon him. You remember the centurion that came
to the Lord? Centurion, he came to the Lord, he said, Lord, I
have a servant that's dying. And I need you to save him. I
need you to save him. But Lord, I'm not worthy for
you to come into my house. Just speak the word only, and
he'll be made whole. Just speak the word only. And
what'd the Lord say? I've not so great faith in all
of Israel. He said, be it unto you as you
believed it to be. As your faith has made you believe,
be it unto you. And from that same hour, the
servant was healed. Why? Because the servant believed,
Well, why did the servant believe to begin with? Because it was
God-given faith that caused him to believe. No, it was by the
word of the Lord Jesus Christ, his power. His power caused it
to be so. After that happened in Matthew
chapter eight, many came to the Lord possessed with demons and
devils. And what did he do to cast out the devils? He rebuked
them by the word of his power. Do you remember Legion when they
were tormenting the maniac of Gadara? And the Lord said to
him, who art thou? And he said, Legion, for we are
many. And he said, bid us not to go away to the countryside,
but bid us to go into the herd of swine. They had to have permission
at the word of his power. They knew who he was because
as soon as he approached, as soon as he approached, they said,
have you come to torment us before the time? And they acknowledged
him as Jesus. They acknowledged him as Lord.
And he cast them into the swine at the word of his power. Everything
about salvation, depends on the word of his power, depends on
him saying live to his people. Here's the good news. He's already
upheld all of it. He sat down. Even you being called,
it is finished. It's going to come to pass in
time. It's already finished. When we find out that we can't
do anything good because the scripture tells us there's none
good, no not one, we try to fix it by nature. Every man and woman
do the same thing. I gotta fix this. That's what
we do. Every time we make an offense,
every time we do something wrong, we try to do something right
in order to correct it by nature, a work. And it's part of our
curse. The curse was to work. Man will eat bread by the sweat
of his face. Lord calls every single thing that you and I do
to try to fix our sin, to try to fix the fact that we can't
keep our oath to God, iniquity. Iniquity. There's only one that
had no iniquity and it is the Lord Jesus Christ. He's the only
one that could make a promise and had the power to keep it.
He's the only one that could uphold the word of his power.
Only one. He's the only one that can promise,
and it's finished at his word. You and I can promise something,
but it still has to take place. Now, understand that we try to
explain this, but it's inconceivable by our minds. It's uncomprehendable.
But the Lord saw us in Christ before time ever began. Was the
cross necessary? Absolutely. In time, it was necessary.
But we're talking about an eternal God who's never seen us outside
of Christ. That's amazing, isn't it? We
just believe it. We just believe it because he spoke it at the
word of his power. That's why. He alone can promise
and the work is finished. That's what he tells us here
in Hebrews, that the work was finished before. It's in Hebrews
chapter two. There's a rest to the people
of the Lord because the work was finished from the foundation
of the world, all the work. He's the only one that has the
power to speak the words. speak the world into existence. That's
what we heard last Sunday. He spoke the world into existence,
didn't he? That's the word of his power.
He's the only one that can speak everything into existence. He's
the one, all things consist and exist by him. All things pertaining to the
salvation of his people, he upheld, and he can't lie. He can't lie. He alone was worthy to take the
book and open the seals thereof. He alone was the only one able
to endure the full wrath of God and put away our sin. He alone
was the one that was, he's the only one able to uphold the word
of his power. Now notice what it says here.
We're still in Hebrews chapter one. who verse three, who being the
brightness of his glory and the express image of his person and
upholding all things by the word of his power, everything is upheld by him. So what do I mean by that? Well,
the scripture is very clear that without him, there was not anything
made that was made. But everything in this world
is upheld by the word of his power. That means he's completely
sovereign over it in every way. He upholds all things according
to his will, according to his purpose. Every prophecy was upheld. Every promise was upheld. Every
word spoken by God was upheld. Jesus Christ upheld all things
by the word of his power. Look here and turn with me if
you want to to Luke chapter 5. Peter and some of the disciples
have told all night they tried to catch fish and the Lord did
not bless their efforts. They didn't have a single fish
to show for it. The Lord shows up. Lord tells them, let down the
nets, let the nets down, let the nets down. Look what Peter
says in verse five of chapter five of Luke, Simon answered
and said to him, master, we have told all night and have taken
nothing. Nevertheless, at thy word, I
will let down the net. When they had this done, they
enclosed a great multitude of fishes in their net break, and
they beckoned unto their partners, which were in another ship, that
they should come and help them. And they came and filled both
of the ships so that they began to sink. Peter says, I've calculated
that we've been fishing all night already, Lord, and it doesn't
make a lot of sense for us to throw the nets back down. But
at thy word, At thy word we will obey. Now we know Peter, and
even though Peter obeyed, what Peter was saying was, is that
probably ain't gonna do much good, but we're gonna do it just
because you told us to. I'm just saying, I mean this is early
on, before Peter was converted, you know that's what he was thinking.
And the reason we know this is because of his confession, the
next verse we're gonna read in just a second. But as soon as they
threw the nets in, the nets were overburdened with fish, insomuch
that it was beginning to sink two ships, not just one. Now
that Peter has something to see with his eyes and understands
something, Peter has taken into account, as we started this message,
Peter's taken into account the character of the Lord, everything
he had seen the Lord do, the promises that the Lord had kept
up to this point. And the only reason he said,
okay, we're gonna cast them over was because he saw with his eyes
the miracles. He saw with his eyes the things
that the Lord did that nobody else could do. And he says, okay,
we'll cast them over. That doesn't mean he believed
God. That just means he obeyed his word. Now look, it's the Lord's word
that made all the difference, wasn't it? It was his word that
made the difference. Look at what happens when the
Lord's word is given. What the response of every sinner
is in verse eight, when Simon Peter saw it. He fell down at
Jesus' knees saying, depart from me for I am a sinful man, oh
Lord. There's the confession. He didn't cast those nets in
belief. No more than you and I would cast our nets in belief
if we were given the opportunity. It's not until the Lord reveals
himself in his glory that it's all by his word and his power
that you and I put our hands over our mouth and say, behold,
I am vile. I am a liar. I am a thief. I would steal all of your glory
if I could, Lord. I would dethrone you if I had
the power to do so. That's what this flesh would
do. I am the sinner. I have no confidence in my words
anymore. No confidence in what I see anymore.
See, everything about the Lord, it's not based upon what we can
see physically. It's not that we don't examine
how much money we have in the bank account and say, okay, I
know that I'm elect of the Lord or I know that I'm blessed of
God. That has nothing to do with it. Are you seated at His feet? Are you needing to hear His Word?
Do you have a need that you are a sinner? Has He made that need?
Then come and take the water of life freely. There's the message.
It's Christ. That's His Word. He said that.
Come take the water of life freely. Only the Lord's people say, Lord,
I come. Bid me come, Lord. That's what
Peter told the Lord. He said, Lord, if it be Thou,
bid me come. Only at Thy Word, Lord. Only at Thy Word, Lord,
will we come. God's elect are made to have
no confidence in the nets, no confidence in the boats, no confidence
in their ability, no confidence in what we can see with these
natural eyes whatsoever. But we are made to have complete
confidence in the power of his word, the word of his power. He upheld everything by the word
of his power. It's amazing that everything
obeys his word. Whatever comes out of his mouth,
obedience takes place afterwards, doesn't it? From everything around
him. Even the winds and waves stopped when he said stop. Peace
be still, they stopped. Everything is subject to him.
Everything is under him. Scripture says, who hath resisted
his will? Who can reply against him and say, what doest thou?
He has all the power. He is God. You remember when
they came, speaking of his word, what he says and the response
that happens every time that he speaks. You remember when
they came to take the Lord and the disciples? They didn't just
come for the Lord. They're going to take them all and kill them or
whatever. We know that to be true because the Lord tells them
to let these go. We see that Peter, when they
came to take the Lord, the Lord said, whom do you seek? And he
said, Jesus. They said, Jesus of Nazareth.
He said, I am. And what happened to them? They
all fell backwards. Now you talk about some scrappy
guys, man, to get back up and continue their mission. That's
the hatred of the flesh, isn't it? That's how much hatred. They
couldn't explain what happened. Something miraculous happened,
but they still didn't see him as God. If they did, they would have
been given repentance and faith. They couldn't see him as God. That's
the whole point. Even though they were knocked back, they
still didn't reference him as God. Still didn't reference him
as God. And he said, whom do you seek
a second time? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth. And he said,
I am, or I've told you I am He. Let these go, and they let the
other ones go. See, that was the word of His
power. The rest of them had to be released. Isn't that a picture
of the law coming to you and I based upon our sin? Our adversary
coming and accusing us of being found guilty of every one of
the laws being broken, of you and I being false and completely
full of sin from head to toe? And yet the Lord By the word
of His power, putting away our sin on the cross of Calvary,
the Lord Jesus Christ. By His own blood, purging our
sin so that now, now whenever the law, the law has nothing
to say against the children of God for that reason. Now whenever
our adversary comes around, the Lord says, no, let them go. You
have nothing to say against them. This is what the Lord's done
by the word of His power. Remember the woman at the well,
whenever she said, well, when Messiah comes, he'll set everything
straight. What did he tell her? I am. And she left her water
pot, she said, come see a man that told me all things I ever
did. Is this not Christ? She was speaking to God and could
not see that it was the Lord Jesus Christ she was speaking
to right there. But yet when he said I am, she saw him not
with these eyes, but with the eyes of faith. That's how he
gives his faith is by saying live and he bestows it by his
sovereign right and choice. You remember the word of his
power when Lazarus died? Lazarus had been dead four days
and Martha was in despair. She said, Lord, if you've been
here, our brother would not have died. You've heard me say this
before, but the Lord's the only one that can be four days late by
our standards and be right on time by God's. Word of His power
is not limited to time. Isn't that awesome? It's amazing.
Not limited to time. He's the one that made time.
He's the one that made time. It's subject to Him. He controls
all things. He purposed all things. And what
did He say? Lazarus come forth. And Lazarus
came forth bound hand and foot. There was no option given. There
was no help required until Lazarus came forth. They said, loose
him and let him go. But we see that Lazarus came forth at the
power of his word. And it's that same power. He
upheld all things by the word of his power. He upheld all things
by the word of his power. Now with the same power, with
the same word, our Lord says these words in John chapter 19,
turn there with me. You want comfort. Brethren, don't
examine yourself. Don't look to another in order
to see if they're trustworthy. Nobody's trustworthy in this
life, only the Lord. We do have some confidence in
each other. Those who we, especially those who are professing believers,
we have a little bit of confidence in them. That's all because the
Lord's knit our heart together in love under his gospel. But
we don't have confidence in this flesh anymore, do we? We don't
have hope in this flesh anymore. We have deemed ourself untrustworthy,
according to the gospel. According to salvation, I'm untrustworthy.
I don't trust myself. I can't uphold the word of my
word of power. I can't do that. But he did. He did. In John 19, he says these
words, verse 28, Or after this, Jesus, knowing that all things
were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled,
saith I thirst. Now there was set a vessel full
of vinegar and they filled a sponge with vinegar and put upon hyssop
and put it to his mouth. And when Jesus therefore had
received the vinegar, he said, it is finished. And he bowed his head and he
gave up the ghost. Do you believe that? Do you believe
that? It is finished. Every ordinance
kept. Every prophecy fulfilled. Every promise made upheld. Every law kept. Justice satisfied. Wrath completely endured. Sin
put away. It is finished. This is his word. He upheld all things by the word
of his power. All things were accomplished.
Salvation, redemption, justification, eternal life, all because he
upheld all things by the word of his power. It is finished. Now do we believe his word or
do we believe our word? That's a simple question, isn't
it? But only the Lord can make us believe his word. The sinner
hears that, and the sinner will cry out, Lord, cause me to hear
thy word by your power. Cause me. Wednesday night, we
looked at Psalm 119, 33 through 40, and it says, teach me, O
Lord, the way of thy precepts. Cause me, make me, show me, quicken
me. It's all begging. Lord, you're
gonna have to do it, and he does it one way, by the word of his
power. By the word of his power. believe
his word, and in doing so, that means you're gonna deny yourself.
You're gonna deem yourself as untrustworthy. You're gonna deem
your, Lord's gonna cause you to see yourself as the liar and
him the truth. That's just how it is. He'll show that we are
the sinner, and he is the savior. We look to his power now and
realize we have none. We don't rest in what's seen
anymore, do we? And we started this by saying, what makes you
trust somebody? It's based upon their track record.
It's based upon their history. It's based upon their trustworthiness.
It's based upon how much they've kept their word to you. Jesus
Christ has never lied one time and can't lie. God cannot lie. He is trustworthy. He is truth. And he upheld all things by the
word of his power. The command comes to the Lord's
people that says, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. Trust
in his power. Believe his word. Let's pray. Father. Calls us to never. Rest in what is seen by these
physical eyes that calls us to rest. Looking unto Jesus, the
author and finisher of faith. Lord, as we. Take your table. As we observe these ordinances
of your body in your blood, we ask that you would bring into
remembrance your promises. Bring into remembrance that you
did uphold all things by the word of your power. Calls us
to bow. With hearts of faith unto you
right now. It's in Christ name. Amen.
