The Wonderful Knowledge Of The Lord

Tom Harding November, 5 2024 Audio
Psalm 139
Psalm 139:1-24
O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me.
2 Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.
3 Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.
4 For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether.
5 Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.
7 ¶ Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.
9 If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;
10 Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.
11 If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me.
12 Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.
13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb.
14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
15 My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.
17 ¶ How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!
18 If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake.

Psalm 139 this evening is our
study, and I'm entitling the message from the words found
in verse six. Wonderful high knowledge that
comes from God. Look at verse six. Such knowledge
is too wonderful for me. Now he's not talking about intellectual
things and intellectual learning, he's talking about Knowing God,
the knowledge of God, a spiritual understanding and knowledge of
God. Such knowledge is just too wonderful. It's too wonderful
for me. It's high. How high is God? Higher than any of us. It's high. I can attain. I cannot attain
unto it. So the title, Wonderful High
Knowledge Given of God, and when he's talking about this knowledge,
it's his eternal knowledge of us. How long has God known his
people? He's known them from everlasting,
from everlasting. He's talking about his eternal
knowledge of his covenant children, and he's talking about our knowledge
of him. Our knowledge of him comes by
the revelation of God the Holy Spirit. You remember 11, Matthew
11, 25 says, he's hid these things from the wise and prudent and
revealed them undebased even so father for so it seems good
in his sight. Salvation is a revelation of
the Lord Jesus Christ and to our heart, our heart. And what
a great privilege the Lord has given us to know something of
his glorious character, his holy sovereign character. He's not
left us in the dark about these things, for we have his word.
He's revealed himself unto us through his word, through his
word. I noticed across the page there
in Psalm 138, look at verse 2. I will worship toward thy holy
temple. and praise thy name for thy loving kindness and for thy
truth, for thou has magnified thy word above all thy name,
the word of the Lord. The word of the Lord, we read
a moment ago, was quick and powerful, sharper than any two-edged sword.
And he's talking about the written word, all scriptures
given by inspiration of God, But it's also talking about the
living word, the word that was made flesh and dwelt among us.
You cannot divide the two. God takes his word, faith comes
by hearing, and hearing by the word of the Lord, and he reveals
himself unto us. He's given us an understanding
that we might know him that is true, the only true God, which
is eternal life. Now certainly this psalm tells
us much about the glorious character Or as some of the old writers
used to say, the attributes of God, God our savior. And we see a vivid description
of his divine attributes. Most of you have read Arthur
Pink's book on the attributes of God. That's a very good book,
a very good book written back in the 1930s, written back almost
100 years ago. But we see the character of God,
the God of scripture now, the God of the Bible. We see at least
three things that is described here about the character of God
or the attributes of God. First of all, we see his omniscience,
his omniscience. That means his infinite and intimate
knowledge of all things. God knows all things. He's never learned anything.
He's known all things from eternity. We read in Hebrews chapter four,
all things are naked and opened, open unto the eyes of him with
whom we have to do, we have to do. So we see the omniscience
of God. Secondly, we see the omnipresence
of God, the omnipresence of God. The Lord our God is everywhere
present. He's everywhere present. God is spirit and he's everywhere.
Proverbs 15.3 says, the eyes of the Lord are in every place,
beholding the evil and the good. The Lord, the eyes
of the Lord are everywhere, beholding all things. And then the third
thing is His omnipotence. His omnipotence. Now that word
means His almighty power. His almighty power. He's unlimited. Is God, is there a limit on His
power? Not, no, not the God of the Bible. He has all power, all authority
in heaven and earth. His omnipotence, his unlimited
sovereign power, right, and authority over all things. The supremacy
of God, the supreme right as God to do as he will, with whom
he will, when he will. We call that the omnipotence
of God. He'll have mercy on whom he will. And whom he will, he'll harden.
If you look back just one page, Psalm 135, turn back there. Another one of my favorite psalms.
Look at verse four, excuse me, verse five and six. Psalm 135,
four. I know that the Lord is great,
that our Lord is above all gods. You see that small g, he's above
all idols. And whatsoever the Lord pleased,
that did he in heaven, and the earth, and the seas, and all
deep places. Sound like God's in charge, doesn't
it? God rules and reigns over all things. He does according
to his will in the army of heaven. and among the inhabitants of
the earth, and none can stay his hand or say unto him, Lord
God Almighty, what doest thou? In Ephesians chapter one, we
read, he worketh all things after the counsel of his own will,
working everything in his sovereign providence. He's sovereign in
creation, created all things by the word of his power. He's
sovereign in providence of him and through him and to him are
all things to whom be glory. And he's certainly sovereign
in salvation. Now, what do I mean when I say
that he's sovereign in salvation? I'm saying that the word of God
teaches he will have mercy on whom he will have mercy. In Exodus
33, when Moses asked the Lord, Lord, show me your glory. Remember
what he said? I'll have mercy on whom I will
have mercy. I'll have compassion on whom
I will have compassion. There's nothing more dishonoring
to the God of the Bible than for his creation to deny the
true character of their creator. And when people deny the true
character of the God of Scripture, it reveals the wickedness of
their heart. It reveals the unbelief of the heart. You remember Psalm
53, verse 1 said, the fool has said in his heart, there is no
God. The fool has said that. And then
our Lord said in John 8, 24, if you believe not that I am,
if you believe not that I am, I am God, I am God the Savior,
believe not that I am, He said you'll die in your sins. And yet this is the very thing
we see happening in our day, the denial of a true character
of God as He's revealed in Holy Scripture. God is not who we
think He is. He's who He is as He's revealed
in the Word. In Romans chapter one, don't
turn, let me just read it to you. Paul talks about those who
have changed the truth of God into a lie and worship and serve
the creature more than the creator, who is blessed forevermore. We
have in religious circles in our country today, we have a
man-centered gospel or a free will-centered gospel. Eternal life is described as
knowing the true and living God. To know the true and living God
is to have eternal life. You remember in John chapter
17, he said, all power is given to me in heaven and earth. All
power is given to me in heaven and earth. The Father has given
me power over all flesh, and I should give eternal life to
as many as the Father has given to me. And this is eternal life,
that they might know thee the only true God, Jesus Christ,
whom he has sent." That's his high priestly prayer in John
17, verse 2, 3, and 4. In 1 John chapter 5, when Paul,
or John rather, described eternal life, he said, this is the eternal
life that they might know thee, the Lord Jesus Christ. Salvation
is in a person. Christ, the Lord Jesus Christ. To trust a God of our imagination
is to trust a mere idol that cannot save a flea. yet alone
a vile, dead sinner like me." Now remember, let's see if we
can find that. Turn over here to Isaiah 45.
Isaiah 45. So to have salvation is to call
upon the true and living God. And see salvation revealed in
a person, the Lord Jesus Christ. He that hath the Son hath life.
In Isaiah 45, look at verse 20. Assemble yourselves and come.
Draw near together ye that are escaped of the nations. They
have no knowledge that set up wood of their graven image, and
pray unto a God that cannot save. Now why would you pray unto a
God that cannot save? Tell ye, and bring them near.
Yea, let them take counsel together. Who hath declared it from ancient
time? Who hath not told it from that time? Have not I the Lord?
Now watch it. There is no God else beside me,
a just God and a Savior. There is none like me. Now, what
does he say? Look to me. Look to me. Look unto me, and be ye saved.
All the ends of the earth, I am God, and there is no other. Salvation is in the true and
living God, the Lord Jesus Christ alone. So I don't trust a mere
idol, I trust the Christ of God. Now with that introduction, let's
look at verse one, down through verse six, and we see and learn
vital, important truths about the omniscience of God. That
means God knows everything about you, the most intimate, The details
of your mind, the Lord has searched you out and he knows every thought
of your mind, every imagination of your mind. Look at verse one. Oh Lord, notice it's capital
L-O-R-D, Jehovah, Almighty God, thou hast searched me and you
know me. You know me. The knowledge, God
knoweth the secrets of the heart, Psalm 44. The Lord has knowledge
of all men. He knows their frame. You remember
Psalm 103, where it says he knows our frame. He knows that we are
but dust. This thing of searching, he mentions
it again in verse 23 of Psalm 139. Search me, O God, and know
my heart. Try me. and know my thoughts." God knows
everything about us. He knows us better than we know
ourselves. He knows the names of his covenant
children. He knows their name. But this
is intimate knowledge and love he has toward his elect. He knows
all men, but he especially knows the intimacy and the thoughts
and motives of the hearts of his covenant children, his elect,
his people. Because the Lord has known us
from all eternity, and he's loved us with an everlasting love.
Jeremiah 31. You remember verse 3? It says,
the Lord has loved us with an everlasting love, therefore with
loving kindness does he draw us to himself. You say, well,
God loves everybody. Now if you read Matthew chapter
seven, it says we just read a moment ago that he hates some. He hates
the workers of iniquity. Jacob I have loved, Esau have
I hated. You remember those in Matthew
chapter seven where the Lord cites of those who bragged on
what they had done for the Lord. Lord, we preached in your name.
We've done many wonderful works in your name. We've done all
these things, cast out demons. And the Lord said, depart from
me, I never knew you. I never loved you, you workers,
workers of iniquity. But God has an everlasting intimate
knowledge of his people. He has always known us in Christ. He always views us and sees us
in that eternal covenant in Christ. And in due time, the Lord crosses
our path with the gospel, with the true gospel of Christ, and
reveals himself unto us. And he does this through the
preaching of the gospel. That's why we go preaching the gospel
in all the world, as the Lord has described that we should
do. The instructions that he gave
unto his church, go into all the world and preach the gospel,
the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. The good shepherd does
seek out his sheep and he finds them and he carries them home
to glory. The sheep were lost sheep. All
we like sheep have gone astray. The Lord, by his grace, crosses
our path with the gospel because he's known us from all eternity.
You remember in 2 Timothy 2, verse 19, where it says, the
foundation of God standing sure, having this seal, the Lord knoweth
them that are his. He knows all about his covenant
children. They're his sheep. And the good
shepherd's on the path of his sheep. And he'll find those lost
sheep, and he'll reveal the gospel unto them. and will call them
unto himself." Now look at verse 2, 3, and 4. How well does the
Lord know us? Completely, fully, better than
we know ourselves. Thou knowest my down sittings. When I sit down, the Lord knows
that. Or when I'm cast down, the Lord
knows that. And he knows my uprising. He
knows when I stand up. He knows all about us. Thou understandest
my thought afar off. Thou compassed my path, surrounded
my path, my lying down. When you lay down at night, the
Lord is there. He's with us. Thou art acquainted
with all my ways. There's not a word in my tongue. But lo, O Lord, thou knowest
it all together, all together. He knows us. How well does the
Lord know us? Every movement, every moment,
the steps of a good man are ordered of the Lord, are every thought,
are every imagination. or actions, motive, and deed,
all our ways. You see, the Lord looks not on
the outward countenance, the Lord looks upon the heart. This
is a God with whom we have to do. All things are naked and
open, we read a moment ago, unto the eyes of him with whom we
have to do. Have to do with this God, this
God of Scripture. The Lord knows our words, verse
four. There's not a word in my mouth,
In my tongue, but lo, O Lord, he even knows that. The Lord knows our word, what
we say of him and of others, nothing done in secret. Every
idle word shall be accountable unto the Lord. Matthew 12 tells
us, but I say unto you that every idle word that men shall speak,
they shall give an account thereof in the day of judgment. For by
thy word thou shalt be justified and by thy words, you'll be condemned. Now look at verse five. Thou
hast beset me behind and before. and has laid thy hand upon me. The Lord our God not only holds
us, he has beset us. And that word there has a meaning
of besieged us. He's besieged us. He's captured
us. We are his. He lays hold upon
us. He surrounds us. He encircles
us. He hems us in. He protects us
by his purpose, his providence, and his power. You remember the
story of Job. how Satan wanted to attack Job,
but Satan could not touch Job without God's permission. You
remember what Satan said? I can't touch him. You put a
hedge about him. I can't touch him. God hedged
Job about. And that's what God does to his
people. He has besieged them, behind them afore, and he's laid
his hands He's laid his hand upon me. Now, if you can get
a hold of that picture of God Almighty, the hand of God Almighty
lays his hand, his omnipotent, sovereign hand of mercy upon
his people. It's not a hand of judgment toward
his people, it's a hand, we're gonna see that in a minute, but
here it's a hand of mercy. He's laid his hand of mercy.
He laid his hand to rule me, to lead me, and to uphold me,
to protect me, and to restore me. You remember Psalm 23. Everyone knows Psalm 23, don't
they? The Lord is my shepherd, I shall
not want. Because He's my shepherd, I shall
not want for any good thing. For righteousness, for pardon,
for forgiveness, for salvation. Look at verse 6. Such knowledge,
such knowledge, That's just too wonderful. Too wonderful. I cannot
comprehend. I can't comprehend God. I like
what the old reformer Martin Luther said, I don't need a God
I can understand. He'd be like me. He'd be like
me. Such knowledge, David said, is
too wonderful. This is a sweet psalmist. This
is a man after God's own heart. This is the anointed king of
Israel, and he's saying God's omniscience, and His power and
His holiness, it's just too high. It's too high, it's too wonderful.
God's infinite knowledge of us is most wonderful and glorious
to think about. I cannot comprehend it or understand
it. It's high, it's too high for
me to understand. I'm a simple man. I'm a simple
man. And I can't comprehend the vastness,
the infancy, and the sovereign power of almighty God. Yet by
faith, I know it so. I know it so. Faith is a substance
of things hoped for. Hebrews 11 verse one. Faith is
a substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
It is only at the throne of the most high God, the most sovereign
God, that any sinner will truly worship God. Only at the throne
of a sovereign. That's the only place we come
to worship. We come boldly to the throne
of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in our
time of need. So there's something about his
omniscience. Oh, it's wonderful, isn't it?
His name is wonderful. Wonderful counselor to the mighty
God, the everlasting Father. Where is that found? That's over
in Isaiah 9, isn't it? Isaiah 9, verse 6. Unto us a
child is born, a son is given. His name shall be Wonderful Counselor,
the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father. He's the Prince of Peace.
Now here's the second thing we learn. We learn something of
the Lord's omnipresence. In verse 7 down to verse 13.
That means He's everywhere all the time at the same time. God's everywhere. God's Spirit,
He's everywhere. Look what it says in verse 7,
where can I go? Whether shall I go from thy spirit? God is spirit. He seeketh such
to worship him in spirit and in truth. Where shall I go from
my spirit? Or whether shall I flee from
his presence? If I send up into heaven, only
be by His grace to the blood and righteousness of the Lord
Jesus Christ. If I send up into heaven, He's
there already. He's already there. We've already
been seated together in heaven. He's in Christ. Ephesians 2 says,
verse 6, if I send up into heaven, thou art there. If I make my
bed in hell, And that word there is, in the original, is shiel,
shiel, which means the grave. Behold, thou art even there. If I take the wings of the morning
and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there, thy hand
shall lead me. and thy right hand shall hold
me. If I say, surely darkness shall
cover me, even the night shall be light about me. Yea, the darkness
hideth not from thee, but the night shineth as a day. And the
darkness and the light are both alike unto thee. Thou hast possessed
my innermost being, thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. I was covered. What were we covered
with? The blood and righteousness of
Jesus Christ. Even when we were in his womb,
in our mother's womb. Now there's no hiding from God,
is there? You can't hide from God. We studied in Revelation
chapter six about those who cried in the mountains and rocks to
hide us from the face of Him that sits upon the throne from
the wrath of the Lamb. And they could not be hidden. There's no hiding from God. Those
who pray to the rocks and mountains to hide them from the wrath of
God will be sorely disappointed. This is a God with whom we have
to do. All things are naked and open before Him. There is no
escaping His judgment, His presence, or His decrees. But there's great
comfort here to the believer. The Lord is always with us. He's
always with us. He'll never forsake us. We studied
in Hebrews 13 where it says, I'll never leave you. I'll never
forsake you. He has said, so we may boldly
say, the Lord will never forsake us. He'll never leave us. And
then we read not too long ago in our study in the book of Matthew,
where the Lord said, the ascended and resurrected Lord said, all
power is given to me in heaven and earth. Go therefore and preach
the gospel everywhere and know this, I'm with you always. I'm
with you always. I like what many of you remember,
Pastor Maurice Montgomery. But he was drafted during the
Korean conflict back in the 1950s. And he was sent over there to
Korea to fight in that war. And his dad was a dear, dear
old man, a believer. And when he put his 20-year-old
son on the bus shipping him out to Korea to fight in that battle,
he said this, remember, the Lord is everywhere. He's over there
in Korea, just as he is here in Kentucky. And that's so, that's
so. Look at verse 80, if I send up
into heaven, thou art there to be absent from the bodies to
be present with the Lord, or when our bodies lie silent in
the grave, The Lord is always with us and one day will raise
us from the dead and give us a glorious body like unto his
glorious body. That's what predestination is
all about, being predestinated to be conformed to the image
of Christ. He's able to take our vile body and fashion it
like unto his glorious body. Philippians chapter 3 tells us,
verse 9 and 10, no one can escape the grasp grasp of his hand.
His people are called the sheep of his hand and the people of
his pasture. His hand will lead us. His hand
will hold us. Turn over to Isaiah again and
let's look at Isaiah 41. And I must confess this is one
of my favorite scriptures. Isaiah 41 verse 10. Often I read
this before I get up to preach a message. Isaiah 41 verse 10,
Fear thou not? I am with thee. Be not dismayed. For I am thy God. I will strengthen
thee. Yea, I will help thee. Yea, I
will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. We're held by his hand. That's
what he's saying there. If I take the wings of the morning
and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there shall
thy hand lead me and thy right hand shall hold me. He holds
us and he leads us. No need to fear. No need to fear. Darkness, verse 11 and 12. The
darkness, if I say surely the darkness shall cover me, darkness
won't cover you. Even there the night shall be
light about me. Yea, the darkness hideth not
from thee, but the night shineth as the day, and the darkness,
the light are both alike unto thee. Darkness or light is no hindrance
to the Lord. He sees all and he knows all. You remember the story of Abraham
when he put out Hagar and Ishmael and they were out in the wilderness
And they were starving to death, dying of thirst. And the Lord sent a messenger
unto them. And Hagar said, thou God, seest
me. God knew where she was all along.
God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. He commands
the light of the gospel to shine in our hearts. There's no darkness,
no shadow of death. With Him, it's all, even though
I walk in the valley of the shadow of death, I'll fear no evil.
He's my light. He's my light. I'm the light
of the world. You remember John 8? Verse 13, the Lord, our God,
has possessed me. We're His possession. He possessed
me. What does that mean? That means
he bought me. That means he chose me in that covenant of grace.
For thou hast possessed my reign. That word, if you look it up
in the original, it's kidney. The innermost being of our soul. Thou hast possessed my innermost
being. Thou hast covered me even when
I was in my mother's womb. God had an eye on me and covered
me. What did He cover us with? The
blood and righteousness of Jesus Christ. That's right. The Lord
our God not only knows all about us, He owns us. He bought us. He chose us in eternity. He bought
us with His blood. Paul writing to the Corinthians,
he said, you don't know more of your own. You're bought with
a price. with the precious blood of Christ.
Paul reminded those elders at Ephesus in Acts 20, he said,
feed the church of God which he purchased with his own blood.
Even before we knew him, he knew us. He knew us. And when conceived
and just an embryo in the womb, believers were covered and blessed
in Christ, covered with his blood. Paul writes this. in Galatians
chapter 1, but when it pleased God who separated me from my
mother's womb and called me by his grace to reveal his son in
me that I might preach him. You remember Paul the apostle
was one time Saul of Tarsus who hated the Lord Jesus Christ until
he met him and God gave him love in his heart for the true and
living Christ of God. The Lord owns us, we are his,
and we own him. You remember our study in the
Song of Solomon, my beloved is mine, and I am his. I am his. To you who believe, he is precious. He is altogether lovely. Now
here's the third thing, and my time is about gone, but here's
the third thing in verse 14 through verse 22, we see something of
the, Omnipotent of the Lord's mighty power. How powerful is
God? Turn back here to Psalm 115 for
just a minute. Psalm 115, you remember the,
look at verse one. Not unto us, O Lord, not unto
us. Psalm 115, verse one. But in
thy name give glory for thy mercy and for thy truth's sake. Wherefore
should the heathen say, where is now their God? I love this
answer. You see verse three, Psalm 115,
but our God is in the heavens and he hath done whatsoever he
hath pleased. Whatever God is pleased to do,
that's what he does. That's what he does. We see something
of his mighty power, don't we? Verse 14, I will praise thee. Now, when
we know who he is, We cannot but praise the true and living
God. As David said in Psalm 103, do you remember? Bless the Lord. Blessed be the name of the Lord. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and
all that is within me. Bless His holy name. When you
know Him, you can't but praise Him. You can't but worship Him. You can't but submit unto Him. I will praise thee for I am fearfully
and wonderfully made. Marvelous are thy works, and
that my soul knoweth right well. I will praise thee. Now, you
think of the, you remember those classes back in school where
you had that, the study of the anatomy of the body? It's marvelous. We're marvelously, wonderfully
made. Even though when God created Adam and again He created him
upright, in the image of God created him, in the image of
God, a perfect upright man. But we know what happened with
sin. Sin entered in and Adam sinned and Adam fell. We see
that death has entered into this creature of man. I will praise
thee for I am fearfully, wonderfully made. The reason we need to be
born again, because we were born in sin and shape and iniquity,
therefore we need to be born a second time by the Spirit of
God, begotten of the Spirit of God. For I am fearfully, wonderfully
made, we're made new creatures in the Lord Jesus Christ. We
are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus. He has made us,
not we ourselves. Turn over here to Psalm, I think
that's Psalm 100. Turn back to Psalm 100, just
a minute. I think that's it. Look at verse three. Psalm 100,
verse three. You know that the Lord, He is
God. It is He that made us. not we
ourselves, we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture,
enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise.
Be ye thankful unto him, and bless his name, for the Lord
is good. His mercy is everlasting, and
his truth endureth. His truth doesn't need improvement.
It endures forever, and ever, and ever. Now, a couple of things
here on verse 14. The Lord's name is wonderful.
Everything about him is wonderful. He's wonderfully made us object
of his grace, object of his love. We've been wonderfully made new
creatures in Christ and all of his works are marvelous. They're
marvelous. Verse 15, 16. My substance or
my body, as the marginal reference has there, was not hidden from
thee, when I was made in secret and curiously wrought in the
lowest parts of the earth. And he's talking about being
conceived in the woman's womb. Thine eyes did see my substance,
yet being incomplete, and in thy book all my members were
written, which in continuance were fashioned As yet, there
was none of them. Before God even created us, He
knew us and loved us in the Lord Jesus Christ. Again, the Lord
has always been intimately acquainted with His covenant people. Remember
the scripture from Jeremiah 1, where it said, Before I formed
thee in the belly, I knew thee. Before thou camest forth out
of the womb, I sanctify thee and I ordain thee to be a prophet
unto the nations. Jeremiah 1 verse 5. Our names
were written in the Lamb's Book of Life and in his eternal purpose
from all eternity. The Lord has predestinated all
things. He has foreknown us to be conformed
to the image of Christ before the foundation of the world at
one day. we were reconciled unto God,
to the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Can you find Romans 8?
Turn there to Romans 8. Romans 8, 28, then we know, Romans
8, 28, that all things work together for good to them that love God,
to them who are called according to his purpose, for whom he did
foreknow, he also did predestinate, to be conformed to the image
of his son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
Moreover, whom he did predestinate, them he called, and whom he called,
them he also justified, and whom he justified, them he also glorified. What shall we say to these things?
Well, if God be for us, who can be against us? He that spared
not his own son, but delivered him for us all, how shall he
not with him also freely give us all things? I like that word
freely, who shall lay anything to the charge of God. It is God
that justify, who is he that condemneth and is Christ that
died, yea, brother, is risen again, who is even at the right
hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. Now, who can separate
us from that love of God, which is in our Lord Jesus Christ? Back to Psalm 139, verse 17,
how precious How precious are thy thoughts
unto me, O God. How great is the sum of them. If I should count them, they're
more than can be numbered. They're more than can be numbered.
Than the sand when I wake, they're more than the sand of the sea.
When I wake, you're with me. In Psalm 40 verse 5, many, O
Lord my God, are thy wonderful work which thou hast done, and
thy thoughts which are to us, for they cannot be reckoned up
in order. If I would declare and speak of them, there more
than can be numbered. The Lord of glory would ever
be mindful of us. He loved us in eternity, he died
for us in time, and he worked out a perfect righteousness that
he freely imputed that unto us. How great is the sum of his work
toward us. How great is the sum of his salvation
worked out by Christ alone, his obedience unto death. Let's read this in verse 19.
Surely that will slay the wicked. Now, he's going to be a blessing
to his covenant children. Surely thou shalt slay the wicked. He that believeth on the Son
hath everlasting life. He that believeth not the Son
shall not see life. But, uh-oh, uh-oh, the wrath
of God. The wrath of God abideth on him.
Surely that will slay the wicked. O God, depart from me therefore,
you bloody men. Their foot will slide in due
time. For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies
take thy name in vain. Do not I hate them, O Lord, that
hate thee? Am not I greed with those that rise
up against thee? David here is writing under inspiration
of God, the Holy Spirit. He said, I hate them with a perfect
hatred. I count them my enemies. Search
me, O God, verse 23, and know my heart. Try me, know my thoughts,
and see if there be any wicked way in me. Now, if the Lord searches us, he knows
our frame. He knows what we are. By nature,
we're a sinful, guilty, wicked people. And because He has searched
us out, the wages of sin is death, the gift of God is eternal life
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Say, if there be any wicked way
in me, any way contrary to seeking salvation by the grace of God
through the Lord Jesus Christ alone. If there's any wicked
way in me seeking salvation by my merit, my doing, my working,
Reveal that to me and lead me in the way. Notice, in the way. Now when you read in the way,
what do you think of? What did the Lord say in John
14? I am the way, not a way, I am the way, the truth, the
life. No man come to the Father but
by and through me. You see, he said I'm the door.
from the door into the sheepfold. And it's a way of everlasting.
It's a way of everlasting life in our blessed Savior.
