Luke 7:24-30
And when the messengers of John were departed, he began to speak unto the people concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness for to see? A reed shaken with the wind?
25 But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they which are gorgeously apparelled, and live delicately, are in kings’ courts.
26 But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet.
27 This is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
28 For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.
29 And all the people that heard him, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John.
30 But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him.

Luke chapter 7, I want to bring
a message today from verse 24 down through verse 30 of Luke
chapter 7. I'm entitling the message from
the words found in verse 30. Let's read verse 30. But the Pharisees and the lawyers
rejected or frustrated the counsel of God The counsel of God. Who is the counsel of God? Christ. The Lord Jesus. Paul said, I'm not afraid or
I have not shunned declaring to you all the counsel of God. What was Paul's message? Christ
and him crucified. But the Pharisees rejected the
gospel. Rejected. Frustrated. Put it not. The counsel of God. the grace of God against themselves
or within themselves, being not baptized of any of Him. So the title of the message is
this, Rejecting the Council of God. What a dangerous, deadly
thing it is to reject to put it not, to frustrate the grace
of God. When the Lord declared the truth
about the ministry of God's prophet John, who came pointing sinners
to the Lord Jesus Christ. That was his whole focus and
emphasis, wasn't it? There was a man sent from God
whose name was John. The same came to bear witness
to the light. Remember, John said, I'm not
the Christ. I'm just the voice of one crying
in the wilderness, behold the Lamb of God. John's sole purpose
in ministry, his only purpose, his single aim, his main focus,
and his chief goal was to point sinners to Christ and to honor
and glorify the Lord Jesus Christ. In Acts chapter 10 verse 43,
when Peter was preaching at the house of Cornelius the Gentile,
When he mentioned the prophets of God, he said, all the prophets
of God, beginning of Moses and all the way through, all the
prophets of God, they all bear witness to the person and work
of the Lord Jesus Christ. To Him give all the prophets
witness. Well, the publicans, And the
sinners, as the Lord down here is referred to in verse 34, He's
referred to as a friend of publicans and sinners. We'll look at that
next week. But the Lord Jesus Christ was the friend of publicans
and sinners. The publicans and sinners being
convicted of their guilt and sin before God, look what it
says in verse 29, And all the people that heard him, the publicans,
justified God being baptized of John. The publicans, the sinners,
being convicted of their guilt and their sin, they justified
God. That is, they agreed with God.
They took God's side against themselves saying, we indeed
are guilty. You are holy and we need Salvation. And they confessed the Lord Jesus
Christ in believers' baptism, and that's who baptism is for.
Baptism pictures the death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord
Jesus Christ. Those publicans, our Lord said
that publican in the temple, he cried for mercy, God be merciful
to me, the sinner, and the Lord Jesus Christ said of him, he
was justified before God. While the self-righteous Pharisees,
as it says in verse 30, rejected the counsel of God, they rejected
the Christ of God, saying, we don't need Him to be our Savior.
You remember what they said? Away with Him, crucify Him, we
have no king but Caesar. And on another occasion they
said, we have Moses and we have the law. Hold your place right
there and turn to John chapter 5. You remember what they said
in John chapter 5? The Lord says of them, in verse
39 of John 5, search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have
eternal life. They are they which testify of
Me, and you will not come to Me that you might have life.
They did search the Scripture, but they missed the message.
The message of the Scripture is Christ, and you will not come
to Me, He said. that you might have life, that
you might have salvation. I receive not honor from men,
but I know you, you have not the love of God in you. I am
come in my Father's name, and you receive me not. If another
shall come in his own name, will you give him a hearing? How can
you believe which receive honor one of another, and seek not
the honor that cometh from God only? Do not think that I will
accuse you to the Father. There is one that accuseth you,
even Moses, whom you trust." You remember they said, Moses
is our father. And the Lord said, you are of
your father the devil. Read on here in John 5. Even
Moses whom you trust, even the law whom you trust, for had you
believed Moses, you would have believed me. He wrote of me. He wrote about Christ. But if
you believe not his writings, how shall you believe my words?
Moses writings and the preaching of Christ had the same message.
Salvation is in a substitute the Lord Jesus Christ. But think
about this. What a terrible and dreadful
and awful consequence it is to justify yourself and condemn
Christ. by rejecting the gospel of God
concerning the Lord Jesus Christ, rejecting the counsel of God,
that's the power of God into salvation. You see in the gospel
the Lord Jesus Christ is all and in all. What a terrible thing
it is to reject and disbelieve God. But what a blessed thing
it is to condemn yourself and to justify God. Now did you get
that? To condemn yourself. and to justify
God, confessing Christ is all and in all. Hold your place right
there and find Luke chapter 18. You remember the parable of the
publican and the Pharisee? One justified himself and the
other condemned himself. Which one was justified before
God? One justified himself And the
other condemned himself. Look at verse 14. But I tell
you this, this man went down to his house justified. The man,
the public and the sinner who cried in verse 13, God be merciful
to me, thee sinner. I tell you this man went down
to his house justified rather than the other. For everyone
that exalted himself, they'll be abased. And those who are
humbled shall be exalted. You see, the way up is not up.
The way up is down. Down in the dust, confessing
our guilt, confessing our sin. You see, the Lord Jesus Christ
lifts sinners from the dunghill. Pharisees, they don't think they
need any help. Now, when the Lord had plainly
declared His mission to come and to save sinners, as He says
there in verse 22 of Luke 7, Go your way and you tell John
what things you have seen and heard, and I love these two words,
how that, how that the blind see, the lame walk, lepers are
cleansed, deaf people are made to hear the gospel, the dead
both physically and spiritually are raised up by the power of
God, and poor bankrupt sinners are privileged to hear and to
believe the gospel. When the disciples of John were
departed back to prison to tell him of all that they had seen
and heard, How that the Lord saves sinners by His power, by
His grace. The Lord then turned to this
crowd and defends the character and ministry of John. Look at
verse 24, Luke 7. And when the messenger of John
were departed, he began to speak unto the people concerning John,
What went you out? in the wilderness to see. A reed
shaken by the wind? What when you're out to see?
A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they that are gorgeously
appareled, they live delicately, they live in the king's house,
not out in the wilderness. What when you're out to see?
A prophet? Yea, I say unto you, more than a prophet, this is
he of whom it is written, Malachi chapter 3 verse 1, Behold, I
send my messenger before thy face. which shall prepare the
way of the Lord before thee. For I say unto you, among those
that are born of women, there is not a greater prophet than
John the Baptist, but he that is least in the kingdom of God
is greater than he." Now, here's the first point. What a great
advocate and mediator we have in the Lord Jesus Christ. When
everybody else turned their back on John, when John was cast in
prison and his character no doubt maligned, when everybody else
turned away from John, turned a deaf ear to his message, the
Lord Jesus Christ as the advocate and mediator of his people, He
defends him, doesn't He? This is exactly what the Lord
Jesus Christ does for us. When John was cast into prison,
many were prone to think lightly of him, discounting his ministry,
discrediting his character. But the Lord Jesus Christ comes
to his aid and defends him, declares his ministry as successful, one
that's sin of God. Behold, I send my messenger before
my face. And then he said, John is son
of God. And then he said, there's none
greater. There's no greater prophet than John. What a fit description
of all those we see in these next verses, of all those whom
the Lord put in the ministry. And this is the defense the Lord
makes for all of his people. Three or four things. The first
thing is this, found in verse 24, John's message did not waver
like the wind. Like the wind, a reed, you know,
something that will blow in the wind, wave in the wind. John's
message didn't change with the opinion of men. He had one message. He was on one road. He preached
Christ. He pointed center to the Lord
Jesus Christ. His message never changed. He
was not shaken by the opinions of men. He did not preach to
please men. That is one reason that he was
in prison. for declaring and exposing the
sin of Herod. Remember? In Luke chapter 3 we
talked about that. And Herod put him in prison,
and Herod had John executed, had him beheaded. But John's
message never wavered, it never changed. Those who are sin of
God, their message never changes. And you know what it is? I'll
tell you what it is. The Lord gives it to us here in Isaiah
40. Would you turn over there? Isaiah
chapter 40, this again is a prophecy concerning John and we have his
coming and we have his message in Isaiah 40 verse 3, the voice
of him that crieth in the wilderness, now this is written many hundreds
of years before the coming of John, the ministry of John, prepare
you the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway
for our God, every valley Every sinner shall be exalted, and
every Pharisee, every mountain shall be made low. And the crooked
will be made straight, and the rough places plain. And the glory
of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together,
for the mouth of the Lord has spoken it. The voice said, cry,
and he said, what shall I cry? What's my message? Point number
one, all flesh is grass. We're all sinners. And all the
goodliness thereof is the flower of the field. Man in his best
state is altogether vanity. The grass wither, the flower
fadeth, because the spirit of the Lord bloweth upon it. Surely
the people of grass, the grass wither, the flower fadeth, but
the word of the Lord endures forever. So that's John's message. All have sinned and come short
of the glory of God. And then he says, the Word of
our God shall stand forever. Here's the third point in Isaiah
40 verse 9, O Zion, that bringeth good tidings, get thee up into
the high mountain, O Jerusalem, that bringeth good tidings, that's
the gospel, good tidings, lift up thy voice with strength, lift
it up and be not afraid, Say to the cities of God, say to
the cities of Judah, Behold your God. Who is the Lord Jesus Christ? Oh, He is the Lamb. He is God's
Lamb, but the Lord Jesus Christ is God Almighty, manifest in
the flesh. Behold your God. Look to Him, He said. The Lord
said, Look unto Me and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth.
John the Baptist pointed to the Lord Jesus Christ and said, Behold,
the Lamb of God, John 1.29, that takes away our sin. You see, God's serpents declare
the message of the gospel, not fearing the opinions of men,
nor do we court their favor, nor do we court their opinion,
we do not fear their wrath, nor do we fear their anger. If I
preach to please men, I'm not the servant of the Lord Jesus
Christ. The Apostle Paul put it this
way, Necessity is laid upon me, yea, woe is done to me, if I
preach not the gospel. If any man preach any other gospel,
than what we have already preached. Christ our substitute who satisfied
God's law and justice for us, how God saves sinners by His
grace. If we preach any other gospel,
the Apostle Paul said, let that man be accursed. We do not preach
to please men. We preach to honor the Lord Jesus
Christ regardless of what men think. Now I know what they think
by nature. I know what the carnal mind is by nature, enmity against
God. The carnal mind will not receive
the thing of the Spirit of God. I understand why people get mad
when you tell them the truth. But you know what, I'm glad when
they get mad. Because you'll never get glad until you get
angry with God and He breaks your stubborn heart and breaks
your hard heart. The second thing, the Lord Jesus
Christ in defending John's ministry God's servants like John lived
a life of simplicity. He said he lived out here in
the wilderness. He was a man not clothed with
the king's apparel. John cared not for the pleasures
and fancies of this life. In Matthew chapter 3 we read
this, the same John had his raiment of camel's hair and a leather
girdle about his loins, and his meat, his food, was locust and
wild honey. Here was this man out in the
wilderness, but he was God's man with God's message who cared
not for the fine things of this life. That is, he wasn't in the
ministry to get gain, was he? Sadly, many are in the ministry
today, are in it for personal fame and fortune, rather than
seeking the glory and honor of the Lord Jesus Christ. Now, I
thought about this. Many think that as many highfalutin,
high-powered preachers, what I call televangelists, or these
who are in these megachurches, who fly around in jet airplanes,
many think they should live and act like Elvis, don't they? rather
than like Elijah or Elisha. They think they should live like
Elvis. Have his entourage and the big show and rent the big
building. God's men are simple men with
the message of the Lord. God's servants live on what the
Lord provides and He will always provide for the needs of His
servants. We've been on the radio for over
20 years. Never one time have I asked for
one dime. The Lord supplies our need through
those who believe the Gospel. But if you listen to anybody
else, it's always at the end or the beginning. If you don't
send your money, we're going off the air. We'll go off the
air. God doesn't supply our need,
we'll stop. But He does, doesn't He? And we continue to preach
the Gospel. Radio, Internet, all over the
world. You see, the Lord provides for
the ministry that He has established, and He provides generously. My
God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory.
Thirdly, the Lord's servants are His prophets sent by His
will. Verse 27, This is He of whom
it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face,
which shall prepare the heart. And that's what the gospel preaching
does, it prepares the heart, breaks the heart. John's ministry
was established by the Lord, was it not? It was established
by the Lord's purpose, His eternal purpose. We read in John chapter
1, there was a man sent from God whose name was John. I tell you this, John did not
put himself in the ministry. John, although his father, Zacharias,
was the priest of God, and though he grew up in the temple, when
God called him and put him in the ministry, he didn't stay
in the temple. He went out in the wilderness.
He didn't use the established religion of the day. He went
outside the camp, outside the gate, to preach the message of
God. John didn't put himself in the
ministry. God did that. Now that's the
fit description of every true servant of the Lord. No man takes
this office unto himself. The Lord calls men. The Lord
puts men in the ministry. Let me show you this. Turn to
Ephesians chapter 3. No man takes this office unto
himself. It's obvious that many men have
put themselves in the ministry. You know how I know that? Listen
to their message. They put themselves in the ministry,
therefore they have not the message of God, they're not sent of God,
they're not sent with His message. They run, but they do not have
the truth. Now look what the Apostle Paul
says here in Ephesians chapter 3 verse 7, Wherefore I was made
a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God, given
unto me by the effective working of His power unto me, who am
less than the least of all the saints, is this grace given,
that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches
of Christ." He said, I am the less than the least of all the
saints. Woe is unto the man who puts
himself in the ministry. You see, being in the ministry
is the Lord's business. It's the Lord's calling. Many
have asked me in the past, well, how do you know if the Lord has
called you and put you in the ministry? How do you know? Because
it happens. The Lord saves by His grace,
He calls by His grace, He gives the message, He gives the gift,
and then He opens the door. I never one time, when we started
going to hear Pastor Henry Mahan in 1981, to hear the gospel of
God's grace, I never for one minute ever thought that I would
be called in the ministry and yet alone to pastor a church
of God's dear saints. The Lord did that. The Lord,
I never one time asked to go preach. I never one time said,
Brother Henry, I think it's time for me to start preaching. Never
one time did that. God put me in the ministry. I
can say that with an honest heart. God put me in the ministry. God
opened the door. God sent me. You know where he
sent me? Right here. This is the first
church I've ever pastored and it will be the last. I intend
to die right here preaching the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. Now, the last thing that he says
here in verse 27, This is he of whom it is written, Behold,
I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare the
way before thee. It pleased God through the foolishest
of preaching to call out his people. For I say unto you, among
those that are born of women, there is not a greater prophet."
That's saying a whole lot, isn't it? There's not a greater prophet. What about Isaiah? There's not
a greater prophet. What about Elijah? I mean, Elijah
was taking heaven to whirlwind. What about Elisha? He passes
by all these and said, there is no greater prophet than John. Now what an honor. You see how
the Lord defends this man's ministry? You know why he does so? Because
it's God's minister. It's God's message. It's God's
gospel concerning Christ. There's not a greater prophet
than John the Baptist. Now watch this. But he that's
least in the kingdom of God is greater than John." What does
that mean? I looked at that a long time.
I studied about that a long time. There was no greater prophet
than John, the Lord's servant. There's no greater prophet with
the exception of the Lord Jesus Christ. There's none like him.
He is the great prophet. John was greater than Moses,
greater than Elijah, greater than Elisha, greater than Isaiah,
Jeremiah, but you know what? John had a very low opinion of
himself. He said, I'm not worthy to untie
his shoes. John, who are you? I'm the voice
of one crying in the wilderness, behold, the Lamb of God. You remember John said in John
chapter 3, it's recorded, he said, The Lord Jesus Christ must
increase. I must decrease. I'm just going
to melt away out of the picture and the Lord Jesus Christ is
going to come forth. God's servants and every believer
have a very low opinion of self and a very high opinion of the
Lord Jesus Christ. I must decrease. He must increase. Isaiah did. Isaiah said, woe
is me, I'm undone. Job did, he said, I've heard
of thee by the hearing of the ear, but now my eyes see of thee.
Wherefore, I abhor myself, I hate myself, I repent in dust and
ashes. The Apostle Paul did. He said,
O wretched man that I am, who shall deliver me from this body
of death? Oh, I thank God through Jesus
Christ our Lord. Paul said, this is the faithful
saying and worthy of all the temptation that the Lord Jesus
Christ came to save sinners and I'm a chief one. He said, I'm
the least of the apostles. I am what I am by the grace of
God. I'm less than the least of all the saints, we read a
moment ago in Ephesians 3 verse 8. Now, the last part of verse
28. He that is least in the kingdom
of heaven is greater than he. Interesting statement. A true
statement from the Lord Himself. I want us to take a look at this
for a minute and to camp here on this statement just for a
moment and we'll move on. He that is leased in the kingdom
of heaven or in the kingdom of God is greater than he that born
of a woman. Now I've read every preacher
I can get my hands on, past and present, on this statement. I
mean John Gill, Robert Hawker, J.C. Ryle, Charles Spurgeon,
name it. Past and present. Preachers on
this statement. And they all have different thoughts
and different ideas about it, and I wasn't satisfied with any
of them. So I asked the Lord to teach me. But to me, in what
the Lord has given me understanding on this statement here, the Lord
is making a comparison between those that are born of women
and those who are born into the kingdom of God. That's what he's
saying. Has to be. Those born of women,
whether they may be rich men, famous men, prophet or president,
those born of women compared to those born in the kingdom
of God, now which is greater? Huh? those born into the kingdom
of God. The Lord is making a comparison
between those born of women in a natural birth, in a natural
conception, and those born in the kingdom of God by a special
regenerating of God the Holy Spirit. You remember our Lord
said to a Pharisee named Nicodemus in John chapter 3, verse 3 down
to verse 6, except a man be born in the kingdom of God, He cannot
see the Gospel of God. Except a man be born of the Spirit
of God and born into the Kingdom of God, he cannot enter into
the Kingdom of God. Can he? We must be born again
by the power of God, by the will of God. Those born in the Kingdom
of God are far greater than any person that's just naturally
born into this life. Right? They're greater. Think about this. How are they
greater? Greater in blessings. The man who is born into the
kingdom of God by the power and will of God, if his own will
beget he us with the word of truth. They are blessed with
all spiritual blessings in the heavenlies in Christ. Ephesians
1 verse 3. They are greater in grace and
favor with God, justified freely by His grace through the redemption
that is in the Lord Jesus Christ. Greater in love. Those born in
the kingdom of God, God loves His own. Having loved His own
which are in this world, He loved them to the end. God commended
His love toward us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died
for us. He loved His own and laid down
His life for them. You see, those born in the kingdom
of God are loved much greater, aren't they? Than any mere man
that's born of a woman. Greater in blessings, greater
in favor, greater in righteousness. We have the very righteousness
of God in Christ. Greater in mercy, for He saved
us with His mercy. You see, those born in the Kingdom
of God are blessed with all spiritual blessings. We have an inheritance
incorruptible, undefiled. We're made heirs of God and joint
heirs with the Lord Jesus Christ. Those born in the Kingdom of
God are much greater than any man born naturally of a woman. You see what this is saying here?
Now, let me make good on it. Our first birth, we were born
in sin and shaping and iniquity, right? We were born corrupt. That's why we must be born again. There's none righteous, no, not
one. We've all sinned and come short of the glory of God. By
our second birth from above, we are born of the Spirit of
God and made new creatures in Christ. We're raised up from
the grave and made to worship Him in spirit and in truth. If any man be in Christ, he's
a new creature. Old things are passed away, and
behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5, 17. Secondly, by our first birth,
This sinful flesh will grow weak, sick, frail, and eventually it
will die and go back to the dust. Right? By our first birth, that
which is born of this dust, made of this dust, the Lord said,
back to dust it will go. The spirit will go back to God
who gave it, but the body's going back to the dust. By our first
birth, this sinful flesh will go back, will die and go back
to the earth. By our second birth from above,
we shall never die. Think of it. We shall never die. Well, preacher, can you make
good on that? I think I can. John chapter 11. If you want
to turn there, you can. If not, I'll read it to you.
John 11, 25. The Lord said to Mary and Martha,
I'm the resurrection and the life. He that believeth in Me,
though he were dead, yet shall he live. And whosoever liveth
and believeth in Me shall never die. You see, death for the believer
is not... Death is separation. To be absent
from this body is to be present with the Lord right now. Right
now. Our Lord told that dying repentant
thief, today you'll be with me in paradise. By our first birth
this flesh will go back to the dust. By our second birth from
above we shall never die. That which is born of the flesh
is flesh. That which is born of the Spirit
is Spirit. The Lord gives us eternal spiritual
life and we shall Never die. We just go on to be with the
Lord forever. He that is the least, lowest
sinner, vilest beggar, that is born of the Spirit of God, is
one with Christ, and Christ is greater than all that which is
true of the head is true of the body. You see, we are the least
among the saints, the chief of sinners, but being made one with
Christ. Now, who is Christ? He's greater
than all, and we are one with Him, right? I in them, thou in
me, that they may be made perfect in one. That's greater, isn't
it? That's greater than any man born of a woman. Donald Trump's
going to be our president just in a few days. And among those
born of women, I mean, he's a successful businessman. And he's got all
these things, but I tell you what, my friend, that lowest,
poor, sinner, vile, in the dust, is born in the Kingdom of God.
Oh, He's greater. Those riches of Trump will be
gone soon. Those riches we have in Christ
are eternal. You see what he's saying here?
I know that's what this message is. Now, I want you to look at
this. Luke 9, 46. Luke 9, 46. The apostles, one time, verse
46 in Luke 9, there arose a reasoning among them, the apostles, which
of them should be the greatest? John elbowed Peter and said,
Peter, I'm going to be the chief apostle. Peter said, no, you're
not. And James chimed in there and
said, no, it's going to be me. Can you imagine them arguing
about who's going to be the greatest in the kingdom of heaven, in
the kingdom of God? who should be the greatest. And
the Lord, perceiving their heart, took a child, and set him by
him, and said unto them, Whosoever receiveth this child in my name
receiveth me, and whosoever receiveth me receiveth him that sent me. For he that is least among you
all shall be the greatest. The least. I want to be the least.
I want to be less than the least of all the saints. Don't you?
I want to take my place on the bottom shelf. Down in the dust. Guilty and vile. That's the blessed
man. Do you know yourself to be a
sinner? You know what? You're blessed. You're blessed. The Lord Jesus Christ came to
save sinners. He came to save sinners. sinners,
of whom I am cheap." Now look at verse 29 and 30 in closing.
And all the people that heard Him, they heard the great prophet
of God. And the publicans, the sinners,
well they justified God, they vindicated God, being baptized,
confessing they were sinners, confessing their only hope is
Christ and Him crucified. But the Pharisees and the lawyers,
those who looked to the law for salvation, they rejected, they
set aside, they frustrated the counsel of God, Christ and Him
crucified, against themselves. being not baptized. They said
we don't need a Savior. We're okay. We're okay. We're going to be justified by
the deeds of the law. Now listen to this statement.
Either one or the other, either sinners justify and honor God
by believing the report As many as were ordained to eternal life
believe God or reject the counsel of God, dishonor Him by not believing
Him, there's no middle ground. You either believe the gospel
or you don't. There's nowhere in between. Those
who reject the counsel of God will be forever condemned. The publicans, the sinners, were
baptized, they confessing their need of Christ. You see, gracious
for the guilty, mercies for the miserable. While the Pharisees,
the self-righteous, rejected the word of truth, rejected the
counsel of God, and were condemned in their sin. He that believeth
on the Son hath life. He that believeth not the Son
shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides upon him." Every one of us here today, you,
me, we're either in the camp of the Pharisee or in the camp
of the publican, the notorious vile sinner. God saves sinners. He doesn't save good folks. He
didn't come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. You're either a sinner, Saved
by God's grace, or Pharisee, trying to establish a righteousness
of your own. Those who go that way shall be
forever condemned. Those who are blessed to hear
the Gospel and believe it, oh, I tell you, you're a blessed
man. You're born in the Kingdom of God, if you believe the Gospel.
One more verse, let's turn to Luke 16, verse 15. And here's the end of the...
Pharisees. The publicans, God said, they're
justified. I died for sinners. He's called
a friend of sinners. We'll see that next week. Luke
16, verse 15. Well, let's read verse 14. The
Pharisees also who were covetous heard all these things, and they
derided Him. And He said unto them, You or
they would justify yourselves before men. But God knoweth your heart. That
which is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the
sight of God." Now, I trust the Lord has given you grace in your
heart to know that you're a sinner. And the only hope for a sinner
is the Lord Jesus Christ, because He came to seek and to save the
lost. This is a faithful saying and
worthy of all acceptation. The Lord Jesus Christ came to
save sinners, and I'm the chief one. I'm the chief one. I'd say with Paul, I'm the chief
of sinners.
