I remember those who requested
prayer. I remember the family of Marie Swaney. She died. She
went to hospice, I think, Wednesday, and she passed away. Jessa Smith
is doing better. She had the operation, and they've
been fixing her up. I remember Lawrence Moot, Mark
Lambert. Debbie's brother is doing better. After the back operation, he
had to call the ambulance for himself to go back. They didn't
give him proper medication to go home with. They prescribed
it, something like Oxycodone or Percodan, something heavy,
because he had a back operation. But the pharmacy wouldn't fulfill
it. So he went home without any pain
medication. After a back operation, he was
in pretty bad shape. But he's doing all right now. He went
back and they actually filled the prescription. So he's doing
good. And Debbie's brother, other brother,
Randy, had his last chemotherapy treatment. He's feeling pretty
good about that. Yes? Who? Dinah Wolfe? What situation? What situation? She die? Is that Dinah? D-I-N-A-H? It's Dinah Wolfe. Remember her
in your prayers also. Seek the Lord's help for her.

This is My Father's World. If you have your Bibles, turn
to Leviticus chapter 17. Leviticus 17. I'm going to read the first ten verses. Leviticus 17. And the Lord spake unto Moses,
saying, Speak unto Aaron, and unto the sons, and to the children
of Israel, and say unto them, This is the thing which the Lord
hath commanded, saying, What man soever there be of the house
of Israel that killeth an ox, or a lamb, or a goat in the camp,
or killeth it out of the camp, and bringeth it not unto the
door of the tabernacle of the congregation to offer an offering
unto the Lord before the tabernacle of the Lord, blood shall be imputed
unto hit that man. And he hath shed blood, and that
man shall be cut off from among the people, to the end that the
children of Israel may bring their sacrifices, which they
offer in the open field, even that they may bring them unto
the Lord, unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation,
unto the priest, and offer them for peace offerings unto the
Lord. And the priest shall sprinkle
the blood upon the altar of the Lord at the door of the tabernacle
of the congregation, and burn the fat for a sweet-smelling
savor, or a sweet savor unto the Lord. And they shall no more
offer their sacrifices unto devils, after whom they have gone a whoring,
it shall be a statute forever unto them throughout their generations.
And it shall say unto them, Whatsoever man there be of the house of
Israel, or the strangers which sojourn among you, that offereth
a burnt offering, or sacrifice, and bringeth not to the door
of the tabernacle of the congregation to offer it unto the Lord, even
that man shall be cut off from among his people. And whatsoever
man there be of the house of Israel, or the strangers that
sojourn among them, that eateth any manner of blood, I will even
set my face upon that soul that eateth the blood, and will cut
him off from among the people. Let us pray. Our Father in heaven, we come in the blessed name of
Jesus Christ the Lord, who is the mediator, the one mediator
between men and God, in whose name you have commanded
us to pray unto you. We come with hearts of thanksgiving
and praise for all you've done for your people. We thank you
for the shed blood of Jesus Christ that put away our sin by the
sacrifice of himself. Indeed, that he was manifested
to take away our sins, and in him is no sin. We are thankful for the blessed
imputation of righteousness unto your people, knowing that they
of themselves have no righteousness. Their righteousnesses are as
filthy rags. We thank you that you have made
him to be unto his people wisdom, righteousness, sanctification,
and redemption. We thank you, Lord, for salvation
free. We thank you for a heart to love
Christ, a faith to believe in. For we know these are gifts from
heaven. And all good and perfect gifts
come from above, from the Father of lights, in whom there is no
variableness or shadow turning. We pray for those who are sick.
We pray for our area, Father, after this flood, the people
that are suffering in many ways. We ask, Lord, your help for them.
Let us be, if we are able, to help them all, so, Father. We pray for those who've lost
loved ones, for the Wolf family. We pray, Lord, that you'll be
with them. For the other family that's lost a loved one this
week, we ask, Lord, your help for them. We poor human beings,
frail and weak, are truly unable to comfort anyone, though we
would like to. But you can speak to the hearts
and minds of people, and set things aright in their hearts
and minds, and cause them to flatter Jesus Christ. His world
passes away. We know that. We see it in our
own selves. We see it in those things that
are about us. Things wax worse and worse. The
love of many waxes cold. But we know that what we have
as children of God, we have in heaven. We have Jesus Christ. And we can say with David, whom
in heaven We desire but Thee on whom and who on earth beside
Thee. Help us to worship You this day.
We pray in Christ's holy name for His glory. Amen. This is your handout, sung to the
tune of This is My Father's Word. of sovereign grace, ye people
of the Lord. Proclaim Jehovah's matchless
grace, join in with one accord. Christ gave himself for us. The substitute laid down his
life to save his chosen race Poured quickening grace into
the souls of those for whom Christ bled. That grace which saves
from sin instructs us on our way. And grace will keep us ever
safe. ? Let us go astray ? A vessel of
His grace ? By covenant designed ? By grace our Savior calls me
His ? By grace I call Him mine The good news of His grace should
calm each doubt and fear. God saves us by His grace, a
long sweet message to the ear. Stan, let's see. Sylvester, would you help Stan
do the offer today? those old people who don't have
any hearing have about three hearing aids. We have the ones
we wear and the ones of the people who sit beside us and tell what
we're saying. We're thankful for that. Let us pray. Father,
we ask in the name of Jesus Christ that we receive this offering.
It will be done with thankful and grateful hearts, knowing
that all we have, we have because of mercy and grace. We deserve
the worst punishment. We deserve an eternity separated
from you. By your grace, your kindness,
you have shown to us and given us all things in Jesus Christ,
all spiritual blessings. Help us now to render unto thee
that which belongs to you with joy and thanksgiving in our hearts. We pray in Christ's name. Amen. You. You. One announcement I forgot to
make is that next Sunday we'll only have an
11 o'clock service because every one of you will be filled up
with turkey. So we'll just have an 11 o'clock
service and no dinner afterwards, no afternoon service. That's
next Sunday. Wednesday night service will be the same as normal. Back in your text, Leviticus
chapter 17, verses 1 through 10, what we know about this passage
of scripture to begin with is that it speaks of the Lord Jesus
Christ, as do all the scriptures from Genesis to Revelation, they
speak of Him. Our Lord said to those men who
studied the scriptures as a way of life, who inscribed the scriptures
and wrote them out, He said, You do study the scriptures for
in them you think you find eternal life, but there they which testify
of Me. and you will not come to me that you might have life.
These scriptures are about Christ. So what we're reading here, when
the Lord talks about sacrifice and offerings, He's talking about
the true and perfect sacrifice, the Lord Jesus Christ, who was
the only perfect sacrifice ever offered, the only sacrifice that
actually and truly put away sin. The Day of Atonement put away
sin for a year. And the writer of Hebrews, the
book of Hebrews said that what that did was just make you remember
that every year your sins are going to have to pay for because
they haven't been put away. So this chapter, as all others
do, fall under the same heading as all others in Holy Writ. It
is about Jesus Christ and His glorious successful and saving
sacrifice on Calvary Street. Now this chapter addresses two
fundamental things. First, any worship other than
the worship of God by the blood of Jesus Christ is idolatry. That is the first thing addressed
in this passage. Secondly, atonement or propitiation, atonement means
covering, propitiation means satisfaction, is in the blood
of Jesus Christ. Any other worship other than
the worship of God by the blood of Jesus Christ is idolatry,
and that is what this passage is about. We know that our Lord said of
Himself, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes to
the Father but by Me. Christ is the door of the sheepfold. There is no other door but Him,
and all who attempt to come in some other way are thieves and
robbers, as described in John 10. Thieves who would rob God
of His glory, and God will not tolerate them. here what he says
in these verses that we just read. If the offering is not
made and brought to the door of the tabernacle or to his altar, then the person who offers that
is guilty of the blood of the sacrifice and also is put away
from among the people. Now this, of course, we know
is under the old covenant. The old covenant was a covenant
that relied upon the obedience or disobedience of men in order
for it to be ratified. God was ready to pardon, but
he would not pardon until men repented. The fact is, if you
study the history of this people, the only people that God dealt
with on the top side of the earth, none of them ever did. They were
murmurs and complainers, rebels against God, and ended up in
total and complete idolatry, as we've studied in Isaiah and
Jeremiah and Amos. Under that old covenant, If a man disobeyed, he was put
away. But under the New Covenant, what a child of God realizes,
because of the grace of God and because of the Spirit of God
that lives in him, he don't never obey correctly. He never does
anything that he isn't involved in. If he's involved in it, sin's
involved in it. There's a principle within his
bosom, Paul said, in me, that when I would do good, evil is
present with me. and his cry was, O wretched man
that I am, who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
This is the condition of the child of God. He knows that he
of himself can do nothing that's right and reasonable and meritorious
in itself before a holy and righteous God who sees all things as they
are. So he says of idolatry in the
Old Testament, you'll be put away. Thankfully,
because we are still idolaters in our own nature, idolaters
in our own nature, that does not apply in the New Covenant,
because in the New Covenant, our sins are put away by the
sacrifice of Himself. Now, we know they're there, but
this is in God's economy, according to God's purpose, and before
God's eyes, He said, I will remember their sins no more when this
New Covenant is ratified by the blood of Christ. Now this law
that he says, this is a commandment he's given to his people, this
law regards the worship of God. And after the teaching regarding
the Day of Atonement, which precedes this just a few verses prior
to this in the 16th chapter, the Lord commanded this to his
children of Israel. The law required every Israelite
to do this thing, every Israelite to do this along with every stranger
who sojourned with them. Disobedience resulted in being
cut off from among the people of God. This law was given in
the context of Leviticus 16, verses 29 through 34, which is
about the Day of Atonement. That day was a momentous day,
and everything there was a picture of the Lord Jesus Christ. On
that great momentous day, the great high priest, or the high
priest was Aaron at the time, made atonement for the sanctuary,
the tabernacle, the congregation, the altar, and made atonement
for himself, the priest and for all the people of the congregation.
This typifies particular redemption. Christ came to save who he came
to save, whom he chose before the foundation of the world.
Because in all of humanity, there was just a little bunch of rebels
called God's nation. They were the only people on
earth he dealt with. He didn't go to the pagans. He went to Israel. Not only that,
he did it through one man. The high priest on the day of
Atonement went into the Holy of Holies, the most holy place,
where was the Ark of the Covenant, with the cherubims and golden
cherubims and wings facing each other, and in the midst between
those wings was the Shekinah Glory of God. There he made offering
to God for his own sins, for the sins of the people, for the
congregation. He sprinkled blood everywhere. inside of that glorious
little 15 by 15 cubicle was brown and smelled of copper because
there was blood all over the place. Why? Because God is only worshipped
through blood. What does that mean? That means
God is only worshipped if His law is satisfied and His law
is only satisfied by death, the soul that sinneth it shall die. That is why Jesus Christ came
to this world and lived life perfectly to be a suitable sacrifice
and to offer Himself a ransom for many. That is why He came. he came to die. He didn't come
to set up a kingdom. He didn't come to be an example
to men. He didn't come to be a martyr. He came to die in the
room instead of his people as a substitute. Why? Because that's
what God requires. And you can't do it. Oh, you're
going to die, but your death ain't no accomplishment. Your
death is the final realization that you can't accomplish anything
on your own. That's what death is. But Jesus
Christ's death was an accomplishment. he paid the sin debt owed God
by his people and this Day of Atonement pictured that. None but the elect received the
benefit of this great act and they only received it for a year
under that old covenant. of the substitutionary propitious
dead of the Lord Jesus Christ. True Israel, called the Israel
of God in the New Testament, was cleansed from every stain.
He is not a Jew, which is one outwardly, but one who is one
inwardly, whose circumcision is not of the flesh, but of the
heart, whose praise is of God and not of men. Those for whom the blood was
affectionately applied on Calvary's tree were required to afflict
their souls. How do you do that? Now, some
people will say, well, we take some kind of belt and self-flagellate
and beat ourselves, or we carry a cross, or we harm ourselves.
That's not what that's talking about. How do you really afflict
your soul? How does your soul really afflict you? One way. To be brought to the place where
you have to admit that you had nothing to do with the salvation
of yourself. That is painful to our flesh
because we want to have something to do with it. Afflict your soul. This picture is the singularity
of Christ. The affliction of the soul is
a complete disowning or disallowing of self in the accomplishment
of salvation, self-denial. People talk about it a lot. one Catholic holiday called Lent
goes on for 40 days and they call it self-denial. When the
Lord says deny yourself in Scripture, He's not talking about giving
up ice cream for a month or giving up liquor or giving up cigarettes
or whatever for a month. He's not talking about having
self-denial. He's not talking about you giving up anything except
this, yourself. When God says deny yourself,
you're denying you. You're saying I had nothing to
do with it. miracle of miracles one day I was walking in this
world enjoying my state of unbelief living life to the fullest living
large and somebody on his hind legs stood up and preached the
gospel to me and I heard by God's grace the truth and suddenly
wondrously I realized that I'm nothing and he's everything I had nothing to do with my salvation
On that day, that day of atonement, Israel saw redemption accomplished
and sin put away. The work finished by God's sacrifice. It says there was nothing left
to be done. It was called a Shabbat or a
Sabbath of rest. And that would be a statute forever.
That signifies that the blessed rest wherein we find sweet rest
is Jesus Christ. We cease from our works and rest
in Him who has done all for us. Well, doesn't a believer work?
Of course he does. He does because these are works ordained of God.
God says you are my workmanship, my poem or my poet. You are my
workmanship created in Christ Jesus unto good works which God
hath before ordained that you should walk in them and you will. Cease for my works. And the subject
then would be what's left to do? Worship. give God glory, sing praises
unto the Lord Jesus Christ of thanksgiving and praise. That
is what is left for us as children of God. Our Lord speaks of blood
sacrifice, killing oxen and goats and lambs in this passage, the
animal sacrifice and the worship of His glorious person. Verse
4, Our Lord prohibits prohibits any other means of worship which
prohibits any and all idolatry he said and bringeth it not kills
an animal and bringeth not to the door of the tabernacle of
the congregation to offer an offering unto the Lord before
the tabernacle of the Lord blood shall be imputed unto that man
he'll be charged with that death he that shed blood and that man
shall be cut off from among the people he talks about killing and bringing
blood before the altar of God. It's not talking about hunting. One fellow said the definition
or the Cherokee definition for vegetarian is a man who can't
hunt. That's not talking about hunting. That's talking about
worshiping God. How is God worshiped? It started early on, you see.
It started in the Garden of Eden. When God glorified His own name,
when Adam and Eve sinned against the Lord, He killed beasts, slew
blood, and made them coverings to cover their nakedness. Now
they were naked before, but now naked meant something. Now naked
had a stain on it, and so He covered their nakedness. And
then the first offering in Genesis chapter 4, After the Lord said
He set up this altar at the east of Eden with a cherubim facing
each other and a flaming sword, a licking sword, a shekinah,
glory of God, there to keep the way of the tree of life, the
first offering made. Which offering was accepted?
Cain did his best. Don't shortchange Cain. He didn't
bring rotten apples and turnips to the Lord. He brought the best.
He had tilled his ground. He had worked with the sweat
of his brow. and he brought the very best fruits he could produce
on his own. He shined them apples up and
he brought them all before the Lord to be accepted and God wouldn't
accept them. God just said, that's not how you worship me. Abel
brought a lamb and slew him and poured the blood on the altar.
And that flaming sword licked it up as an acceptance before
God. Why? Because it was the way God
is worshipped. God must be worshipped. When
we take this table today, we'll be worshipping God on one thing. When we speak of the body and
the blood of Jesus Christ, our Lord says, You do this as often
as you do it. You do what? Show forth what?
My death until I come again. Because that's what we do, we
take the Lord's table. It's not some sacrament that's gonna transfer
grace from heaven to you. It's just bread, it's just wine,
that's all it is. It's what it means is what's
important. It's an affront to God to not
bring what he said bring. It's idolatry. as it really matters
long as a man is sincere yeah it matters God makes with his people community
people work or next where's the mercy three notes chair I will
commune my people at the mercy she said next what is the mercy
for the one word translated four times in the
New Testament. This mercy scene, you know what
it is? Propitiation. What's that? Satisfying God according
to His law and His justice. God being satisfied that His
justice has been satisfied and that His law has been fulfilled. where God will meet you. He'll
go meet you where His law has been fulfilled and His justice
has been satisfied. He'll never meet you anywhere
else. He'll never meet you anywhere else. The mercy seat. The mercy
seat. God will meet with the sinner
at the throne of Christ, the lamb slain from the foundation
of the world. To presume to do otherwise is
to make God a liar because this is His designated means of approach
unto Him and acceptance before Him. It is openly shameful to
claim that there is no other way to God than Jesus Christ.
God accepts men only in the sacrifice He's already accepted. Which
one is that? Look at His right hand. Look at the right hand
of the Majesty on high. There sits the sacrifice, the
substitute, the man, the God-man, the Lord Jesus Christ. The blood
and the fat belong to God. That's what it says. They belong
to God. As a man, the God-man, our mediator,
our Lord gave His life as a sacrifice, but He didn't sacrifice Himself
to you. He sacrificed Himself to God, the Father. He freely
laid down His life. He shed His precious blood. That's
the meaning of an eye for an eye and a truth for a truth and
a life for a life. It ain't about getting your vengeance.
It's about God getting what's due Him. In order for my life
to be saved, He must give His life. In order for my blood not
to be shed, he must shed his blood. In order for me not to
die, he must die in my room instead. The fat belongs to the Lord.
That eternal, fragrant incense of his perfect sacrifice rose
up to God, satisfying his holy nostril. To God the Father was
the sweet smell of unqualified success, the complete redemption
of those for whom he had chosen before the foundation of the
world. God mandated it of blood, that if the blood of the sacrifice
was offered anywhere but on his altar, that blood was to be imputed
or charged to the man that was shed, nor the man that shed it. There in this text is only the
blood of an animal, but since it was shed as a sacrifice for
man at God's command and was a picture of the blood of Jesus
Christ poured out on Calvary, that blood was sanctified for
God. That means set apart for his use and his alone. That blood
belonged to God. Christ's sacrifice belonged to
God. It is to be offered on the designated
altar, and that's the cross of Calvary, by his anointed priest,
the high priest, our high priest, the Lord Jesus Christ, according
to his precise schedule, right on time. He died in the room
instead of his people. Divide this formula and be prepared
to be punished. Don't approach God any other
way. Don't be a fool. Don't be a fool. All false worship
is idolatry. All false worship. God will not
be worshipped except upon his altar through his high priest
by the merits of the sacrifice. And Jesus Christ is that high
priest. That's what the book of Hebrews is all about. Not
Christ, the high priest after the order of Melchizedek. God
must be worshipped in the manner in which he's prescribed or we
find ourselves to be idolaters. That's what this whole passage
is about. Propitiation is in the blood. Verse 11 is the hinge
upon which the entire chapter swings when he says this, For
the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to
you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls. For it is the blood that maketh
atonement for the soul, and when he's talking about blood, we're
not talking about a drop of blood, we're not talking about a cut,
we're not talking about an abrasion. When you see the word blood in
scripture, in reference to sacrifice, in reference to God, that means
death. That means death. When he gave his blood, he gave
his life. When he shed his blood, he died, and the death required
for the payment of sin, justice demand sacrifice of life declaration
life belongs to God and it does your life you may not think so
so I give it he's got it you'll see you'll see he's got how many
breaths can you hold one can you take one take another just
in case want to see she from Life of the flesh is in the blood. This is read three times in verses
11 through 14 of this chapter. This ain't the theory of quantum
physics. You need not to be an intellectual
giant or a doctor of theology to understand this. No blood,
no life. Blood nourishes and sustains
the entire human life. When an animal was sacrificed
on God's order, that life was sacrificed. When the Lord Jesus
Christ poured out His life's blood upon the cursing tree for
us, He gave Himself for us. When He gave His blood, He gave
His life. When He shed His blood, He died the death required for
the payment of sin and what justice demanded. The sacrifice of life
is a declaration that life belongs to God. Man is not allowed to take for
himself what belongs to God. God said, I'm the God of all
flesh. Man was not allowed to do that. The blood of an animal
slain was either to be brought to God's altar or it was to be
poured out like water upon the ground, returning it to God.
When we by faith come to God, we acknowledge that we are dead
and our life is hid with Christ and God. Sacrifices teaches us
of the depths of our ruin. You want to know about sin? Don't
go to the bars and the bordellos and the crack houses and the
whore houses. Don't go there. You want to know about sin? Look to the cross. It was there sin was dealt with.
Men did do it worse. We know that. They mutilated
the Lord Jesus Christ. He didn't look like he looks
on those pictures at Walmart. You know, a little scratch here
and there and a pretty little crown of thorn on his head and
a tea towel wrapped around his loins. He was buck naked hanging
on that tree. He had four to nine, 360 furrows plowed in his
flesh from a Roman cat of nine tail. That there was a whip with
pieces of glass and steel in it at the end of each lash and
they whipped it around the body and raked it back across the
body. He just ripped at his ribs. He had 360 of them. were they
like get a crown thorn pressed down on his skull he was beaten
strong rogers so with their fists and with their hands they plucked
out his beard by hand he didn't look like a human being he looked
like a sacrificed beast and that's what he was that didn't kill
him God did something that you and
I don't know anything about. Cut the lights off. Shut down
the sun. Three hours of darkness. Nobody
knew what was going on. It was total darkness. Three
hours. Our Lord pummeled the Lord Jesus
Christ because Jesus Christ was made to be sin for us. All our
sins were laid upon Him and the punishment for our sins was three
hours of darkness. It would be an eternity for us,
but He's the Lamb of God. I'd taken away the sin of the
world. There God pummeled him for three
hours and didn't kill him. He'd come out on the other side
saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani, my God, my God, why hast thou
forsaken me? And then he took the vinegar
off. He said, I thirst. Because that was prophesied in
the Old Testament that he would say that and he said it. it says
that he gave up the ghost. What does that mean? He voluntarily
quit living. I can never explain that. Our death will not be a voluntary
thing. He just quit living. Why? Because there was a payment
yet to be made that did not involve eternal punishment because that's
no payment. That's why it goes on for eternity. did not involve
the worst that men can do, because that's no payment. Payment is
debt. And so he died. And the debt
was paid. I owed a debt I could not pay. He paid a debt he did not owe. He died in my room instead, and
the accounts were clear. The accounts were settled forever
in God's mind, so much so that he can look at this wretched
character right here and say, I will remember your sins no
more. Of course, where remission of
these is, there is no more sacrifice. Christ gave his flesh. We were
ruined in Adam, saved in the second Adam, the Lord Jesus Christ,
the last Adam. The life of the flesh is in the
blood and I've given it for you upon the altar. Your god sister
has chosen, I've given it to you. That grace which that God,
this God Almighty would condescend to speak thusly, note that he
does not say I offer it to you because it's not an offer. He
gives it and therefore those whom he has given it to get it. when he gives it, what do they
get? According to Scripture, they
get justification. What's that? There being no record of one of God's children having
ever sinned. That's what justification means. Justice satisfied. I don't fear
the law. I don't fear judgment. Why? Because
Jesus Christ is so are we in the world. Why? Why would I fear
judgment if I've already been judged in Jesus Christ? Reconciliation. Reconciliation. We're reconciled to God by the
cross, by the blood of Jesus Christ. Manifold blessings of
grace. All spiritual blessings are given
to us in Jesus Christ according to Ephesians chapter 1 and verse
3. Cleansed conscience. My conscience is clear. Why?
Because I have a perfect sacrifice. I have a perfect sacrifice. You
see, conscience works under the law. Conscience works under the
premise of guilt. Doesn't it? When is your conscience
awakened? When you've done something bad. There he is, that screaming banshee
in our bosom, crying out against us. You've done something. You've
got to do something about that. And so it tells you to do something
about that, to undo what you've done, or try to. And you try
to do that, and you find out that that didn't work either.
But you're worse off than when you started. Because after you've
done what you think is enough to take care of the consciousness,
I don't believe that's enough. How do you acquire a conscience?
Your conscience must be quieted only one way if there be no grounds
upon which it can accuse you. That means the conscience will
shut up and be quiet if you're not guilty. And before God you're
not. If Christ had died in your room
instead. Access to God. Access into the grace wherein
you stand. We have access to God through
the blood of Jesus Christ, it says. a blessed present and a
perfect future. Things are hard down here. They're
not as hard as we deserve. But all these trials and tribulations
come our way by appointment. We sang it in that song. Troubles and trials are traced
upon our dial by the son of love. Why are they there? To make us
be weaned from this world and to look elsewhere. To look to
the throne of grace. Victory over sin. You say, I
don't feel that. You got it. Not because you did
it, but because Christ did it on your behalf. Eternal worship
of Christ without sin one day. when we drop this body of flesh
and the spirit of flesh, our carnal soul dies. We'll be worshiping without sin.
We can't imagine that. I can't. I can't. In Exodus chapter 12 and verse
13, our Lord takes this blood and says, this blood shall be
for you a token a token, a token of acceptance, love, assurance,
and peace. When I see the blood, Christ said, I'll pass over you.
When I see the blood, and when did he say that? He said the
night he killed everybody in Israel, or everybody in Egypt.
Killed everybody. Killed the firstborn of every
house. So when the Israelites had blood on the door, yeah,
well, that was his son that was killed. That was the blood of the Lamb.
that they put up for 14 days and watched to make sure he didn't
have any bulimia or any such thing. And then they cut his
throat and they took his blood in a basin and they put it on
a door post and lentils. That was Jesus Christ's blood.
He's the lamb slain from the foundation of the world. That's
what it pictured. That's what it typified. So when
God came to the house of an Israelite that night, he got blood. He
got blood. The blood of a substitute, his
son, who died in the room instead of his people. The blood shall
be for you a token when I see the blood. For the life of the
flesh is in the blood I have given to you upon the altar to
make it an atonement, a propitiation, a satisfaction for sin. The blood
of Christ is the foundation of everything and the fountain of
everything. You want to know what history revolves around? It ain't great men. It ain't huge great events. What history revolves around?
everything points to the crux. What the crux is? Get that word
from cross. Either side of the cross is human
history. Either side. We're going to take the Lord's
table. We're going to take the table
of the Lord because He's commanded us to do that. To memorialize
His death that satisfied God. This table is for believers,
those who trust in the merits of the Lord Jesus Christ. They're
the only ones who can moralize the fact that when Jesus Christ
died, he died in their room instead. He satisfied God. This was the great and wondrous
thing that took place 2,000 years ago on a lonely hill outside
Jerusalem called Golgotha, the place of the skull. There, the
Lord Jesus Christ is great. It's marvelous. The most honored
God in the whole world. I do believe in the testimony of the
grace of Jesus Christ. If you can discern the body and blood of
Jesus Christ, you can discern that the body was broken for you and the blood
was shed on your behalf. You deserve nothing but the same,
dignity, joy, and sanctity. It's just the Lord's blessing
upon the elements. Father, we rejoice to thank you. As poor, wretched sinners in
this world, without hope and without help, and nothing in
ourselves that could recommend this to you, 2,000 years ago, Help us, Father, that we receive
these elements to know that we're sending forth a glorious commemoration
of the death of our Lord Jesus Christ. No, no. One night I was betrayed by a
Jewish kid. He came to the office and said, pass over the keys. Pass over the keys, he told me. He said, this cup is the New
Testament, a new covenant in my blood. Because all one has
to eat is bread and drink is this cup. Hope is built on nothing less
than Jesus' blood and righteousness. I dare not trust the sweetest
frame, but wholly lean on Jesus' name. On Christ the solid rock
I stand, thou other
