Good evening. Let's open tonight's
service with hymn number 53 from the hardback teminal. And there's
five verses. We'll repeat the last phrase
in each verse twice. Number 53. How sweet the name of Jesus sounds
in a believer's ear. It soothes his sorrows, heals
his wounds, and drives away his fear. And drives away his fear. Dear name, the rock on which
I build my shield and hiding place, my never failing treasury
filled with boundless stores of grace, with boundless stores
of grace. Jesus, my shepherd, brother,
friend, my prophet, priest, and king, my Lord, my life, my way,
my end, accept the praise I bring. Accept the praise I bring. Weak is the effort of my heart,
And cold my warmest thought, But when I see thee as thou art,
I'll praise thee as I ought, I'll praise thee as I ought. ? Till then I would thy love
proclaim ? ? With every fleeting breath ? ? And may the music
of thy name ? ? Refresh my soul in death ? ? Refresh my soul
in death ? Please be seated. Good evening. Don't you love
John Newton? He had such a warm heart for
Christ and wrote some wonderful, wonderful hymns that have been
a blessing to the church for many, many years. I'd like for us to read from
Psalm 112 tonight for our call to worship Psalm 112. I'll say to those that are watching
how We truly long for the day soon. Hopefully. Will be able
to get back together. Some of ask. If they could come,
we have. 788 here, eight of us here tonight.
We're social distancing so. I would say if you want to come,
I think it would be OK, so we just, you know, we don't want
to. I want everybody to come back right now, but if one or
two more wanted to come, I don't think that'd be a problem. All right, you have your Bibles
open to Psalm 112. Let's read together. Praise ye
the Lord. Blessed is the man that feareth
the Lord. The fear of God is the beginning
of wisdom. And the man who feared God the
most was his son, the God-man. And he delighted greatly in his
commandments. And when he makes us willing,
as he does in the day of his power, he causes us to fear God
and to delight in the law of God as well. His seed, the seed
of this man, That's the church, the seed of Christ, the Lord
Jesus Christ. His seed shall be mighty upon
earth. The generation of the upright
shall be blessed. Wealth and riches shall be in
his house. And Lords, in the Old Testament,
the blessings of God were seen with prosperity, peace, abundance of children. Those
were the ways and those were, but we don't see those things
in the New Testament because those are all types and shadows
of the real blessings, the spiritual blessings that we have in Christ. And so wealth and riches is the
wealth of his mercy and the riches of his grace. toward us shall
be in his house, this is his house, and his righteousness
endureth forever. No end to his righteousness,
everlasting righteousness. Never had a beginning, never
had an end, never will it have an end. Unto the upright there
riseth light in the darkness. That pillar of smoke was blinding
to the Egyptians, but it provided light for the Israelites. And
there we have a picture of the gospel. The gospel darkens the
eyes of the unbeliever and enlightens the eyes of the believer. Unto
the upright there riseth light in the darkness. He is gracious
and full of compassion and righteous. A good man showeth favor and
lendeth. He will guide his affairs with
discretion. Surely he shall not be moved
forever. The righteous shall be in everlasting
remembrance. I will never leave you nor forsake
you. The Lord remembers his covenant
promises and remembers his children. He shall not be afraid of evil
tidings. His heart is fixed, trusting
in the Lord. Sometimes we become afraid of
evil tidings, but he never was. His heart was fixed. His heart
is established. He shall not be afraid until
he see his desire upon his enemies. The only time the Lord takes
away our fears is when he enables us by his grace to set our hearts
on Christ and look to Christ as the one that was never afraid.
He hath dispersed, he hath given to the poor, his righteousness
endureth forever, his horn shall be exalted with honor. The wicked
shall see it and be grieved and he shall gnash with his teeth
and melt away, the desire of the wicked shall perish. Let's pray together. Our merciful heavenly father, how thankful we are for the precious
promises that you've given us in your word. and to know that
all your promises are yea and amen in Christ, that all of your
blessings are in Christ. And Lord, when we are found in
Christ, we have all the riches of your grace and mercy, all
the blessings of your love toward us. We come into thy presence
in the name of thy dear son. thanking you, Lord, for his perfect, accomplished, successful
work of redemption as our conquering savior. We ask, Lord, that you
would send your spirit and power that you would enable us to speak
of Christ, that you would enable us to set our affections on him,
that you would increase our faith and forgive us of our sins and
cause us to rest all our hope in thy dear son. For it's in
his name we pray. Amen. Number nine from the spiral hymn
book. And let's stand again. Number nine. It is not that I did choose thee,
for Lord, that could not be. This heart would still refuse
thee, hast thou not chosen me? Thou from the sin that stained
me, hast cleansed and set me free. of old thou hast ordained
me that I should live to thee. Your love had no beginning, no
cause in me was found, that you should choose to save me, a sinner
strongly bound. But grace not earned or sought
for, Was purpose for my soul. For me salvation wrought, For
Christ paid the awful toll. It was Sovereign Mercy called
me and taught my opening mind. The world had else enthralled
me, to heavenly glories blind. My heart owns none before Thee,
for Thy rich grace I thirst. This knowing if I loved thee,
thou must have loved me first. Please be seated. Thank you, Tom. Would you open
your Bibles with me to Psalm 110, please? Psalm 110. We've
been able to look at this Psalm. in detail and there's just so
much here about our Lord and who he is and what it is he has
accomplished as our conquering Savior. That's the message of
Psalm 110. The Father has said unto the
Son, sit thou here at my right hand until I make thine enemies
thy footstool. The Lord Jesus Christ was successful
in doing exactly what the Father sent him to do. He came in the
full power of the Spirit of God and he accomplished the salvation
of his people. He ascended back into glory and
took his rightful place at the right hand of God. And now the
work is finished. It's accomplished. He was successful. He's not making an offer of salvation,
not trying to save anybody. In all of scripture we have this
glorious picture of the Lord Jesus Christ, our conqueror. Now, those who have two natures
know something of the spiritual warfare that we need a conquering
Savior for. Scripture makes it clear, and
we've got We've got the spirit that lusteth against the flesh
and the flesh against the spirit. And these are contrary one to
another so that we cannot do the things that we would. We
want to be perfect. We want to be, we want to be
without sin, but we've got this, we've got this spiritual conflict,
this spiritual warfare going on between the old man and the
new man. And for that, we need a conquering
savior. We need one who has gotten the
victory. And that's what, that's what
Psalm 110 tells us that the Lord Jesus Christ is that conqueror. He is that commander. Scripture
tells us in 2nd Corinthians chapter 10, for though we walk in the
flesh, we have these fleshly bodies, we do not war. after
the flesh for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal. They're not fleshly. We're not
fighting this spiritual warfare with fleshly weapons, but the
weapons of our warfare are spiritual. They're mighty through God to
the pulling down of strongholds bringing every thought into the
captivity of the obedience of the Lord Jesus Christ. Now the
child of God knows, Lord, I've got this flesh worn against my
spirit and spirit against my flesh. I know something about
my need for spiritual armor to fight off the wiles of the devil.
I need one whose obedience before God is perfect, not only for
himself, but for me, I need him to present himself to the father
as my perfect righteousness. And I need for him to speak to
me and, and, and reveal himself to me that I know I've got, I've
got Christ to, to stand in my stead before God. Now that's
what every child of God is in need of. We're in need of a conquering
savior. The gospel of God's free grace
in the finished work of Christ declares the success of our commander. It declares his success. Turn
to me to Ephesians chapter six. You're familiar with this passage.
Ephesians chapter six. We'll begin reading at verse
10. Finally, my brethren be strong in the Lord. Paul said, when
I'm weak, then I'm strong for his strength is made perfect
in my weakness. And he's not saying be strong,
you know, grit your teeth, pull yourself up, you know, and be
a man. He's saying, be strong in the
Lord. Confess your weakness and your inability before God and
look to the Lord Jesus Christ for all your strength before
God. Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. When
the Lord Jesus Christ said to those disciples on the Mount
of Olives, all power has been given unto me in heaven and in
earth. Well, if he's got all power, then that means I have
no power. And that's how we come, isn't
it? We come without any ability,
without any power, without any righteousness, without any strength,
looking to the Lord Jesus Christ. Finally, my brethren be strong
in the Lord, in the power of his might. Look, look at, look
at verse 11, put on the whole armor of God that you may be
able to stand against the wiles of the devil. That's the spiritual
conflict. We're not fighting against men.
Our conflict is not with another man. Our conflict is spiritual. It's against the devil. He's the one that's waging this
warfare, for we wrestle not against flesh and blood, verse 12. Our real conflict we have conflicts
with men we have conflicts with men in our homes and on the job
and in the world but that's not our real battle the real battle
the real battle that we have when we do have conflicts with
the men is not with that conflict it's with the spiritual condition
of our hearts it's the advantage that that the devil uses to use
that experience to cause us to look away from Christ. And so
that's what he's saying, for we wrestle not against flesh
and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rules
of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high
places. Wherefore, take unto you the
whole armor of God that you may be able to withstand in the evil
day and having done all, stand, stand therefore. Stand where
what the Lord say to Moses, when he went up on Mount Sinai, he
said, Moses, stand right here. There's a, there's a place near
unto me. And he put him in a rock and
he put him in the cleft of a rock. And, uh, and Moses was able to
stand right there. We stand in Christ. That's how we're able to stand.
And that's how we engage in this conflict that we have, this spiritual
battle that we experience every day. We're strong in the Lord. Now that's what Psalm 110 is
encouraging us. I want us to be encouraged to
know that we've got a conquering savior. We've got a savior that
went out and and got the victory. Listen to, listen to revelation
chapter six, verse two. And I saw and behold a white
horse. And he that sat on him had a
bow and a crown was given unto him. And he went forth conquering
and to conquer. Now we know who that is. That's
our commander. That's the Lord Jesus Christ.
He's the one riding that white stallion. He's the one going
to battle for us. He's the one that has gotten
the victory. He has defeated death. He has defeated Satan. He's conquered
the grave. He's put away sin. And that's
what Psalm 110 is telling us. That God has blessed him. by enabling him to sit down,
having finished his work. And the Lord is saying to his
people, thy people, look at, go back with me to Psalm 110.
The Lord said unto my Lord, sit thou at my right hand until I
make thine enemies thy footstool. We know that all men by nature
are in enmity with God. We're all born sinners. Some
will die. at enmity with God. And some
will be reconciled by the work of grace and by the spirit of
God and by the hearing of the gospel and by through faith,
they will be reconciled to God. And that's what the Lord said.
The Lord shall send the rod of his strength out of Zion. That's
the gospel. And he shall rule in the midst
of his enemies. So the gospel is going to go
out. The preaching of the gospel is the only thing that matters.
It's the It is the hope of all men. It's the only hope we have. And some will hear it, and by
God's grace, they will believe it. Why? Because thy people shall
be made willing in the day of thy power. When the power of
the Spirit of God anoints the message of the gospel to the
hearts of God's people, they believe, they're made willing,
they bow. They're no longer at enmity with
God. They're reconciled to God. And we see him in the beauties
of his holiness, as we saw Sunday, from the womb of the morning,
thou hast the due of thy youth. His grace has never diminished.
He remains as strong now as he's ever been, as successful now
as he's ever been, as merciful now as he's ever been, as gracious
now as he's ever been. He keeps the due. of the morning
of his youth. Now, turn with me to Romans chapter
eight, Romans chapter eight. I so want us to, to be encouraged to know that
the battle is not yours, it's the Lord's and he's already won
it. And that's the message of the
gospel. The message of the gospel is it's finished. He's, he's
gotten the victory. We just sang that way. And that
him, we sang, he's seated at the right hand of the majesty
on high. He's finished his work. And he's saying to us, believe
on me, rest in me. Look at Romans chapter eight.
And we'll begin reading a verse 31. What shall we say then to
these things? Well, here's what we say. If
God be for us, who can be against us? Our battle's not with flesh
and blood, it's with principalities and powers, and the Lord Jesus
Christ has gotten the victory over them. If God be for us,
who can be against us? He that spared not his own son,
but delivered him for us all, how shall he not with him also
freely give us all things? Now, who's the us a reference
to thy people. That's who it's a reference to. Who shall lay anything to the
charge of God's elect. It is God that justifies who
is he that condemns the accuser of the brethren. That's who's
been defeated. Isn't it? What does he say? He says, you're
guilty. And we say, no. There's no condemnation
to them that are in Christ Jesus. I, yeah, I may be guilty. If
you want to separate me from Christ, I'm guilty, but in Christ
I'm without sin. There's no condemnation. Look.
Who shall lay anything to the charge of God's elect? It is
God that justifies. Who is he that condemneth? It
is Christ that died. Yea, rather is even at the right
hand of God who also maketh intercession for us. That's what Psalm 110
says. He's seated at the right hand of God. He ever lives to
make intercession for us. He has successfully accomplished
the salvation of his people. And he's saying to us, believe
on me. Just believe on me. Look to me. You don't have the
strength. You don't have the ability. You
don't have the righteousness. I've got everything you need,
everything. So who shall separate us from
the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, tribulations,
not our enemy. That's not our conflict. That's
not our warfare. Life is full of tribulations,
but that's not the problem we have. It's a spiritual battle, isn't
it? That's the real problem. Shall tribulation, distress,
persecution, famine, nakedness, peril, or sword? As it is written,
for thy sake we are killed all the day long. We are counted
as sheep for the slaughter. You see, we come as a sheep before
the Lord is my shepherd. I shall not be in want of anything. And the sheep has to lie down
and die to self in order to have life in Christ. We die daily. We constantly have to come back,
aren't we? We're constantly mortifying the flesh. What is that? It's
putting to death. putting to death the flesh. The
flesh is what rears its head. It's the flesh that prides itself. It's the flesh that we're battling
with. Nay, in all these things, we
are more than conquerors through him that loved us, for I am persuaded. Now, Sunday, we looked at that
passage in Timothy where Paul said, I'm not ashamed. I'm not
ashamed. For I know whom I have believed,
and I'm persuaded that he is able to keep that which I've
committed to him against that day." This is his persuasion. And that's what faith is. Faith
is a persuasion, isn't it? It's a persuasion of the heart.
It's what God has convinced us to believe. And he says, he says,
I am persuaded that neither death nor life, death's not our enemy.
Death's been conquered. The conflicts of life is not
our enemy, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present,
nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature
shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is
in Christ Jesus, our Lord. Now that's a pretty strong persuasion,
isn't it? And that's the message of Psalm 110. Matter of fact,
we could say that's the message of the whole of scripture, isn't
it? It's the victory that the Lord
Jesus Christ has gotten over this spiritual enemy. You know,
the story of redemption begins with the fall, doesn't it? It
begins with Satan tempting Eve to eat of the tree of the knowledge
of good and evil. Believing that somehow she can
have free will and be like God. God ordained that for him. He
ordained. I heard somebody say recently,
well, God permitted it, but you can't make God the author of
sin by saying that he ordained it. No, he ordained it. He purposed
it. Satan's the author of sin, but
God purposed it for his glory. You see, we know so much more
about God than Adam knew before the fall. Adam didn't know anything
about grace. He didn't know anything about
being justified. He didn't even know really the
full extent of love. Greater love had no man than
this that he laid down his life for his friend, but Adam didn't
know about that. Adam didn't know about mercy. You see, God
ordained the fall. He's not the author of sin, Satan
is. And man is responsible for his
own sin. Let no man say when he sins,
God caused me to do it. We sin, we're drawn away of our
own lust. When sin is conceived, when lust is conceived, we sin
and sin bringeth death. You know the pastor's scripture. But God ordained it and he ordained
everything that happens for his glory. The fullness of his glory
could only be seen through the redemption that the Lord Jesus
Christ accomplished. Innocence. Adam was innocent,
but he wasn't righteous. Adam was innocent. He didn't
know anything about justification. He didn't know anything about
salvation. He was just innocent. And the fullness of God's nature
and glory could only be seen through redemption. Through redemption. So Satan. Who's called the father
of lies? He's the one who brought sin
and death and separation. God ordained it. And we see that
we see this, this, the spiritual warfare all throughout scripture,
don't we? And in Isaiah chapter 14, Satan is called Lucifer.
He says that he wants to, he wants to, to take the place of
God. He stands in opposition to God. And that's, and that's the motivation
behind all unbelief today. that men are just following after
their father. You know, you, you, you, you
think about daemon possession. and the experiences and examples
of that that we see in the scriptures with lunatics who are doing crazy
things. The man in the gatherings who's
cutting himself with rocks and chained to naked and out of his
mind. And we think, well, that's demon
possession. I remind you that the Lord Jesus
said to those upright Pharisees who were highly respected and
well behaved in society that their father was the devil. You
see, all men outside of Christ are possessed by Satan. Sometimes
he manifests that possession through some sort of wild behavior. But anyone that doesn't believe
on Christ, has, they're following after Lucifer. He's called the angel of light,
the accuser of the brethren. He's called the devil. He's called
our adversary. He's a roaring lion seeking whom
he may devour. He's the father of lies. He's
the prince of the power of the air, the ruler of darkness, the
great dragon. And the Lord Jesus Christ has
defeated him, completely conquered him. Turn with me to Hebrews chapter
two. You're familiar with this, with
this passage. Verse 14, Hebrews chapter two,
for as much then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood,
he also himself likewise took part of the same and that through
death, he might destroy him that had power of death, that is the
devil. So when the Lord Jesus Christ
bowed his head on Calvary's cross, accomplished the redemption of
his people, he destroyed the works of the devil for his people. No more death, no more grave, no more separation. and deliver them who through
fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. That's what the Lord Jesus has
accomplished. Go back with me to our texts in Psalm 110. The Lord willing, I'm going to bring
a message on Melchizedek this Sunday. There's several references
to him. Read Hebrews chapter seven before
Sunday. There's a lot about Melchizedek
in Hebrews chapter seven. But verse four says, the Lord
hath sworn, the father hath sworn he has made a covenant promise
to his son and will not repent. He's not going to, he's not going
to withdraw that. Thou art a priest forever after
the order of Melchizedek. Well, look at that. We'll look
at that passage in detail on Sunday, verse five, the Lord
at thy right hand shall strike through Kings in the day of his
wrath. He shall judge among the heathen. He shall fill the places
with dead bodies. He shall wound the heads over
many countries. Now this is, this is a, this
is a conquering savior. who is going to make some of
his enemies willing, willing servants. They're going to look
at their conquering savior on that white stallion, and they're
going to run, willing to follow after him, like those Israelites
did when they saw David take off the head of the Philistine
champion, Goliath. The scripture says they jumped
up and shouted and chased after the Philistines, didn't they?
And that's what God does when we, when he enables us to see
what Christ has accomplished. What did Christ do at Calvary's
cross? He cut off the head of their champion. He destroyed
the works of the devil and God's people. They see that accomplished
work and they just run after Christ. And when he's the one,
he's the one that's going to defeat Satan for me. Otherwise
I'm subject to him. I've got no power when it comes
to Satan. He's going to have to, he's going
to have to get the victory for me. And then there'll be others who
will not bow. They will not come. They will
not believe. And the Lord is telling us here
that this same conquering savior, the same commander of his army
will come in power and destroy all of his enemies. The scriptures
are clear on that, aren't they? The book of Revelation is very
clear about what's going to happen to Satan. He's going to be cast
into the lake of fire. He's going to be chained. He's
going to be bound. And turn with me to Revelation
chapter 12. Revelation chapter 12. Now this is, This is apocalyptic
language. This is symbolic language. And in fact, the entire history
of the world is condensed in Revelation chapter 12. In this
one chapter. The whole history of mankind.
And the history of mankind is all about the work of Christ.
It's all about his work. I don't read it chronologically
and don't try to understand. This is a spiritual picture of
the Lord Jesus Christ defeating Satan at Calvary. Verse one. And there appeared
a great wonder in heaven, a woman clothed with the sun, the moon
under her feet and upon her head, a crown of 12 stars. Now who's
that woman? That's the church. That's the
eternal church of God in heaven, in Christ. And she being with
child cried travailing in birth and pained to be delivered. Now
who's the child that the church, I see a reference to the old
Testament church, Israel bringing forth the God, man, the Lord
Jesus Christ. And there appeared another wonder
in heaven and behold a great red dragon having seven heads
and 10 horns and seven crowns upon his head. Now that's Satan. And that's his power. And his
tail drew a third part of the stars of heaven and did cast
them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the
woman which was ready to be delivered for to devour her child as soon
as it was born. Now we can draw a direct parallel
to Herod wanting to have the Lord Jesus Christ killed and
Mary and Joseph having to take him down into Egypt. But this
is the whole picture of mankind. This is the enmity that the spiritual
powers have against Christ. Their hatred is not for you and
me. His hatred is for the Lord Jesus Christ. And the Lord Jesus,
hold your finger there in Hebrews in Revelation 12 and turn with
me to Isaiah chapter 14. Isaiah chapter 14. Look at verse 12. How art thou fallen
from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning? How art thou cut
down to the ground which did Weaken the nations for thou has
said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven. I will exalt my
throne above the stars of God. I will sit also among the Mount
of the congregation of the sides of the earth. I will ascend above
the heights of the cloud. I will be like the most high.
Now that's the words of Lucifer. That's Satan. Now, now what did
he tempt Eve with the same thing? To rob Christ of his glory, to
be, to be done with the Christ child and to conquer man's hearts
in rebellion against God. And the Lord Jesus Christ has
already defeated him. Look at, look at verse 15 yet. In spite of the fact that that's
your, that's your desire, that Satan's desire. And that's, you
know, second Thessalonians chapter two, that men have set themselves
up on the throne of God. That's what free will is all
about. That's what work salvation is all about. It's robbing Christ
of his glory. It's following after Satan and
it's, and it's taking the things that only God can do unto yourself. yet thou shall be brought down
to hell to the sides of the pit. They shall see thee and they
shall narrowly look upon thee and consider these saying, is
this the man that made the earth to tremble and did shake the
kingdoms? Oh, one day this one who creates such trouble and
fear in this world. Is he the one? And right now,
when we're able to fix our hearts on Christ and see what he's done,
do we have any reason to be afraid of the devil? Do we have any
reason to, is that the one? Christ has already defeated him.
I'm gonna follow after him. I'm gonna look to the Lord Jesus
Christ. I'm gonna chase after him. He's
my commander. He's the one that's conquered
Satan for me. The spiritual warfare is that
I experience. I just come to Christ. He'll
he'll handle that. He'll handle that. So go back
with me to revelation chapter 12. That's the spirit of the
antichrist. That's the spirit. That's another
name for Satan. Isn't it? Antichrist against Christ. This is what it's all about. This is what this world is all
about. That's why the Lord said, you're either for me or you're
against me. There's no middle ground. There's no gray area.
You're either on my side or you're not. And Psalm 110 says, my people
are going to be made willing. They're going to be on my side.
They're going to look to me and follow after me. And, and then
there's two very clear verses of scripture that we just read
from Psalm 110, talking about how the Lord is going to destroy
all those who remain in unbelief. Look at verse five for she brought
forth a Psalm one, a revelation chapter 12 for she brought forth
a man child who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron. And
her child was caught up into God and to his throne. I said,
this is the whole history. You see, it starts in eternity
where the church is in heaven. in Christ, the elect of God in
the covenant of grace. And then she brings forth a man
child and he finishes his work and he's received back into glory,
seated at the right hand of God. Sit down here at my right hand
until I make that enemies, thy footstool. And the woman fled
into the wilderness where she had the place prepared of God
that they should feed her there A thousand, two hundred, and
three score days. Now a thousand, two hundred, that's three and
a half years, and that's the picture in the book of Revelation
of the period of time between the first and second coming of
Christ. So now we have the church, this woman who brought forth
the man-child, who's been made willing. Now she goes out into
the wilderness, but God's prepared an oasis for her in the wilderness.
And this is our oasis, isn't it? This is where we drink from
the fountain of life. This is where we find our conqueror
to be successful and sufficient for our every need. And there was war in heaven.
Now this is not in a chronological order. Don't try to read it like
that. It doesn't go from the woman
now, now there was a war. No, this war in heaven His war
in heaven, Michael and his angels fought against the dragon and
the dragon fought against his angels and prevailed. Not neither was their place found
anymore in heaven for them. This goes back to, to Isaiah
chapter 14. See the Lord's just revelation
is not written chronologically. It's written spiritually. And
it's giving us a whole history of the spiritual battle that's
taking place in the entire history of the world. And Satan is cast
out and he's defeated. And he prevailed not, neither
was there any place found any more for him in heaven. And the
great dragon was cast out, verse nine, and the old serpent called
the devil and Satan, which deceived the whole world. He was cast
out into the earth and his angels are cast out with him. And I
heard a loud voice saying in heaven, now is come salvation
and strength and the kingdom of our God and the power of his
Christ for the accuser of the brethren is cast down. which
accused them before our God day and night. Brethren, that's where
Satan is now for the child of God, for those who are able to
look to Christ as their conqueror, Satan is cast down. He's got
no power. That's what the Lord Jesus came
to do. Salvation has come. He has defeated the works of
the devil. He's delivered us from, from
our inability to believe. And they overcame him. This,
this, this conflict, this devil, this spiritual battle is to be,
we we're engaged in it, but we overcome how. They overcame him
by the blood of the lamb and by the word of their testimony. And they love not their lives
unto death. They just kept looking to Christ.
They kept looking to his shed blood for their victory over
this spiritual enemy and over death and over sin. Therefore, Rejoice, rejoice ye
heavens and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabitants
of the earth and of the sea. For the devil has come down unto
you having great wrath because he knoweth that he hath but a
short time. You remember, you remember those
demons that met the Lord in the, in the Gadarenes and they said,
we know who you are. Son of God, have you come here
to torment us before our point in time? We know what our end
is. They know what their end is.
We know what their end is. And when the dragon saw that
he was cast into the earth, he persecuted the woman, which brought
forth the man child. This is the whole history of
the human race. Satan persecuting the people
of God and to the woman were given two
wings of great Eagle. What are the two wings that the
Lord has given us? Two wings to be able to fly the word of
God and the spirit of God. That's the two wings. That's
what we have. That's what the world doesn't
have. We have an understanding of the gospel from the word of
God given to us by the spirit of God. And without the spirit
of God and the word of God, we would be victims to Satan. And to the woman were given two
wings of a great eagle and that she might fly into the wilderness,
into her place where she is nourished for a time and times and half
a time from the face of the serpent. So we have the grace of God.
We have the word of God and the spirit of God enabling us to
fly to that place. That's been prepared for the
woman that she might find reprieve. From the, from the, the warfare
of this, of this spiritual demon and the serpent look at verse
15. I want you to see this and the
serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman. Now, what's that a picture of? 2 Thessalonians chapter 2 says
that God has sent them a strong delusion that they might believe
the lie. Now what is the means by which
God sends the delusion that men believe the lie? I'll tell you
what it is. It's this book. Every heresy Throne against the
woman is a misrepresentation of something in this book. God has written his word in such
a way as to give the unbeliever enough rope to hang himself. This is the message. You listen to every heresy and
they will, every person who stands for free will or stands for any
kind of works gospel will give you scripture to defend their
position. So Satan has opened his mouth
and the scripture says that the washing of the water by the word
of God, the water, this flood, And it is a flood, the flood
of heresies that have come into the world over the last 2,000
years. And there's plenty of them, and they keep coming. And
they're coming out of the mouth of Satan, who is twisting and
perverting the word of God. And the world is being drowned
by the flood. It's like a tsunami that is just
coming out of the mouth of Satan. And where are you going to find,
where are you going to find safety from the, from a tsunami? I mean,
it washes away everything, doesn't it? Unless you can get to the
high ground, find you a secure place on a rock way above the
water. And that's the place where you're
not be swept away by this flood. The serpent cast out of his mouth
water as a flood after the woman. Oh, and he's, There's a whole
lot, there's a whole lot of people in this, I mean we're talking
billions of people in this world who call themselves Christians
who have been swept away by the flood of heresy coming out of the mouth
of Satan. He might cause her to be carried
away by the flood and the earth helped the woman. Now what's
the earth a picture of? It's the unbeliever. What is
it that encourages us in the truth? When we hear a lie, there's
two things that make me want to preach. Hearing people tell
lies about Christ and hearing good preaching. Those are the
two things that inspire me to preach more than anything else.
When I hear people telling lies, it just confirms to me more.
The earth opened up. And it took in the lies. So the woman was saved from the
flood of this tsunami that's washing away the whole world.
And the earth helped the woman and the earth opened her mouth
and swallowed up the flood, which the dragon cast out of his mouth.
And the dragon was wroth with the woman and went to make war
with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of
God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. Now I want to close
with one passage of scripture. Go back with me to Psalm 110,
our text. How was this accomplished? Look
at verse seven. He, that's the Lord Jesus Christ,
shall drink of the brook in the way, therefore shall he lift
up the head." Now this wasn't a drink of refreshment. The brook,
if you go back to 2 Samuel chapter 15, when Absalom, who is clearly
a picture of Satan, overthrew his father. took his throne away
from him. That's what Satan's doing. He's
trying to rob the king of his glory, isn't he? And Absalom
drove David out of the city of Jerusalem. And the scripture
says that David went across the brook Kidron, weeping with his
people as he went. And then we read in John chapter
12, that the Lord Jesus Christ Well, no, John chapter 18. John
chapter 17 is our Lord's high priestly prayer where he prays
for his church with his disciples in the upper room at the last
supper. And then John chapter 18 starts out with, and after
these words, he left with his disciples and crossed the brook
Kidron on his way to the Mount of Olives. Now, Kidron means
dark. It means dark. And the brook
Kidron was not a bubbling brook to be drank from. The temple
was a slaughterhouse. It was a slaughterhouse. I mean,
they killed animals one after the other. The washing down of
the blood and the guts and the entrails of these animals and
all the filth that came out, it all went down the hill, ended
up in the brook Kidron. The brook Kidron was a sewer. of all the garbage that came
out of the temple. And it flowed down and it ended
up in what's called Gehenna or Hinnon which was the garbage
dump for Jerusalem. And it burned with a perpetual
stench. You see the picture? And the
Lord Jesus Christ drank from that brook. He drank damnation
dry. He drank the cup of trembling
that was placed in his hand by his father and he drank it dry
to its bitter dregs. And that's the only way he got
the victory. Father, if there be any way this cup can pass
from me, let it be nevertheless not my will, but thy will be
done. There was no other way. The Lord Jesus Christ bore in
himself all the filth all the shame, all the guilt of all the
sins of all of his people. And he put them away by the sacrifice
of himself. That's how he got the victory.
That's how he got the victory. He shall drink up the brook in
the way. Therefore, therefore shall he
lift up the head You know, when Peter said to
the Lord that he wanted to follow the Lord, and the Lord said,
are you able to be baptized with the baptism that I'm baptized
with? And Peter said, I'm able. And the Lord said, and you shall,
and you shall. You see, when the Lord Jesus
Christ drank the bitter dregs of our sin, we were in him. We were in him. We were baptized
in that baptism of fire, just as Christ was. Paul said, I'm
crucified with Christ. Nevertheless, I live. Yet not
I, but Christ liveth in me. The life that I now live, I live
by the faith of the son of God who loved me and gave himself
for me. And consequently, when the Lord
Jesus Christ rose from the grave and lifted up his head. You see,
he bowed his mighty head on Calvary's cross, didn't he? He gave up
the ghost and bowed his head and said, father into thy hands,
I commend my spirit. And three days later, he lifted
up his head because the father had seen the travail of his soul
and was satisfied. He drank of the brook. That's how he got the victory. Couldn't be done any other way.
It was the only way. Psalm 110, a glorious picture
of our conquering Savior who got the victory by drinking the
cup of sin. He drank it dry all the way down
to its bitter dregs. Child of God. Crisis. He's, he's big to lift
up your head. No reason for the child of God
to be walking around with their head hung low and being defeated
and being, Oh no, he's lifted up his head and he's the firstborn
among many brethren. We, we were raised with him,
weren't we? We are more than conquerors through
Christ. Our Heavenly Father, bless your
word to our hearts. We ask in Christ's name. Amen. For the time. Number 125, let's
stand together. I hear the Savior say, Thy strength
indeed is small, Child of weakness, watch and pray, Find in me thine
all in all. Jesus paid it all, all to Him
I owe. Sin had left a crimson stain,
He washed it white as snow. Lord, now indeed I find Thy power
and Thine alone Can change the leper's spots And melt the heart
of stone. Jesus paid it all, all to Him
I owe. Sin had left a crimson stain,
He washed it white as snow. For nothing good have I Whereby
thy grace to claim I'll wash my garments white In the blood
of Calvary's Lamb Jesus paid it all All to Him I owe. Sin had left a crimson stain,
He washed it white as snow. And when before the throne I
stand in Him complete, Jesus died my soul to save, my lips
shall still repeat, Jesus paid it all. All to Him I owe. Sin had left a crimson stain,
He washed it white as snow.
