Turn with me back to Genesis
27. While we were singing there,
there was something, one line in one of those verses made me
think of this passage of Scripture concerning our inheritance. In Christ we are heirs of God
and joint heirs with Christ. How can that be? except we're
one with Him. I was telling Neil and Mark a
minute ago, when Scripture talks about a man and his wife, these
two shall become one flesh. Well, in reality, we know this,
they're really just two people. But that's a great picture. That
which you and I can't perceive right now, being one with Him,
is so. Genesis chapter 27. Isaac now
is getting ready to bless his son. The son that he's purposed to
bless is Esau. Esau again is a picture of the
Lord Jesus Christ. Esau is the one that we're going
to find in just a few minutes that is rejected. Was not the Lord Jesus Christ
for our sake nailed to a cross and rejected? My God, my God,
why hast thou forsaken me? Because he was made what we are. Why would God bless us? Because we are made the righteousness
of God in Him. Jacob is going to receive the
blessing. Verse 28, Isaac begins to speak. Here he gives the blessing. Therefore,
God give thee of the dew of heaven, and of the fatness of the earth,
and plenty of corn and wine. Let people serve thee, and nations
bow down to thee. Be Lord over thy brethren, and
let thy mother's sons bow down to thee. Cursed be every one
that curseth thee, and blessed be he that blesseth thee. Now
when Isaac the daddy gave this blessing to Jacob, Jacob's getting
it. He's getting it for Esau's sake.
But again, we get it for Christ's sake. The first thing that he
received was truly an earthly blessing, a natural blessing,
blessing concerning the things of this world. He said, therefore,
verse 28, God give thee of the dew of heaven. There was a former
rain and a latter rain, and between those rains, God blessed that
land, the land of His people, with a dew. Just a blessed dew
that watered, blessed. But that blessing, as I've told
you before, if it's just a natural blessing, then that's nothing
more than just history. And history hasn't got anything
to do with us right now. I mean, we appreciate it, don't
get me wrong. But I want to know this. What blessing is there
for me right now? This blessing is significant
to us. What is it? This blessing sets
forth The glorious blessing of God Almighty concerning His promise
to send the Messiah, not only through Jacob's loins. Go back and trace through the
lineage of the Lord Jesus Christ. It's going to come to Abraham,
and Isaac, and Jacob. It's going to come through them. Oh, but that blessing of God
bestowed upon the vessels of His mercy concerning their salvation,
their knowledge of who God is. What is set forth here? Therefore
God give thee of the dew of heaven. When He said, God give you the
dew of heaven, it was more than just the dew that we see. He
did receive that. but the blessing of that dew
of heaven. What was it? Here's the first
thing, and I'll show you this in the scriptures. God's blessing
first. It was concerning the hearing
and the understanding of His Word. Now, you see how this begins
already. Here's a blessing to us today. What is the blessing of God upon
His people? Number one, that He reveals to
us Himself. to be able to hear with spiritual
ears and to understand. Hold your place right there and
turn to Deuteronomy 32. Deuteronomy 32. Let's listen to what the Lord
says. Deuteronomy 32 verses 1 through
4. Now listen to this. Give ear, O ye
heavens, and I will speak and hear, O earth, the words of my
mouth." He said, my doctrine, that is my learning, my insight,
my instruction, my persuasiveness, my truth, my gospel, my gospel. My doctrine shall drop as the
rain, my speech shall distill, that it shall flow as the dew,
as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon
the grass. Because I will publish, I will
call with the name of the Lord. I looked that up to find out
what that meant. I will publish the name of the Lord, ascribe
you greatness unto our God. What's it going to be? Who are
you going to talk about, Lord? I'm going to talk about my son.
He is the rock. His work is perfect. All his
ways are judgment of God of truth. Without iniquity, just and right
is he. This is the blessing. Whenever
Isaac told Jacob, God give you the dew of heaven. This is what
he said to him. I'm going to teach you something. If you're able to hear, with
ears of understanding and realize salvation is of the Lord. Salvation
is not of our works. Salvation is not of our will.
Salvation is of the Lord. If you understand that, God Almighty
has given you the dew of heaven. That's why He said, My word,
My doctrine is going to fall, distill, flow down as the dew
of heaven. And what's it always going to
refer to? Or who is it always going to
refer to? His doctrine. It's always going
to be about the rock. Christ Himself. He who is the
invincible power, immutable in His counsels and promises and
ways. What about the rock? What am
I going to learn about the rock? You're going to learn that His
work is perfect. His work and creation and providence
and grace. You're going to find out that
He's the mighty God. All of His ways are judgment. All of His ways are holy and
just. He is a God of truth without
iniquity. Just and right is He. Ever faithful, ever constant
to His promises. And though we're ignorant of
His methods and the reasons of His providence, yet because He
has set forth that He is the dew of heaven and He's going
to give us understanding, we're going to learn to say this, As
you say it is, it is. I may not understand what you're
doing, but I can tell you this, all things work together for
good. To them that love God, to them
who are the called, the called according to His purpose. So
when Isaac said, God give thee the dew of heaven, this is the
first thing he said was Almighty God is going to give you some
understanding. Here's the second thing in the
giving of the dew of heaven. We're taught that the Lord's
effectual call to His people. What does that mean? That call
that gets the job done. If Almighty God just called and
just waited on us to respond, my question has always been,
how can a dead man respond? Are we dead in trespasses and
sin? Oh yes. Well then you tell me
how you're going to respond unless God gives you life first. I've
said before, you take a corpse. We've had a lot of funerals here.
You take a corpse laying in a casket. It's always right there. You
can speak to that corpse all you want to. Get up. Get up. If you'll take the first move,
I'll help you. If he can take the first move, he can get out.
What has God Almighty got to do for me? He's got to call me
in power and give me life. When He said, I'm going to give
you, God give you the due of heaven, this is what He's saying.
I'll show you this. If you want to, you can turn to Hosea 14.
It's saying that Almighty God is effectually going to call
His people. Hosea is right after the book
of Daniel. If you see Daniel, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea. The due
of heaven is concerning the Lord's effectual call to His people.
And then, with that effectual call, it shows their response
after having been given a new heart. A heart made willing in
the day of His power. A heart to ask for forgiveness. and then to hear His promise
to forgive them. When He said, God give you the
dew of heaven, He was telling them a whole lot more than just
that water that's out there. This is what He meant. Look at
Hosea chapter 14. Hosea 14 verses 1 to 7. Now listen to what God says.
Hosea 14. Oh Israel, as I've told you so many times
before, not that little country over there. but spiritual Israel,
spiritual Jews. O Israel, return unto the Lord
thy God, for thou hast fallen by thine iniquity, have we not?
Take with you words and turn to the Lord, saying to Him, here's
what they're saying. He says, this is what I want
you to say to me. Take away all iniquity and receive
us graciously. So will we render the calves
of our lips. Asher, or that, it's a king,
that was a king over in Syria, shall not save us. We will not
ride upon horses, neither will we say any more to the work of
our hands, ye are our gods. For in thee the fatherless findeth
mercy. And it's what he says to them
after he's given them a heart to ask for forgiveness. Now this
is all part of that, God give you the dew of heaven. He said,
I will heal their backsliding, will love them freely for mine
anger is turned away from Him. I will be as the dew unto Israel
as He shall grow as the lily and cast forth His roots as Lebanon. His branches, whose branches?
Well, this is speaking of the Lord and His people. We're the
branches, He's the vine. This is what's going to happen.
He said, I'm going to give you a heart. First of all, I'm going
to give you ears to understand me. I'm going to send my doctrine,
my truth, and you're going to hear me. And then, I'm going
to speak to you effectually. And you're going to ask me for
forgiveness, and I'm going to forgive you. after I've already
given you life and shown mercy, and you're going to ask me, Lord,
forgive me, and He's going to tell them I've forgiven you.
And then I'm going to heal your backsliding. I'm going to love
you. My anger's turned away from you.
And this is what's going to happen to God's people. His branches
shall spread. His beauty shall be as the olive
tree, and His smell as Lebanon. They that dwell under His shadow
shall return. They shall revive as the corn
and grow as the vine. The scent thereof shall be as
the wine of Lebanon." Remember me telling you that scent? He
said, I'm going to give you of my spirit. Oh, and the blessed
graces of my spirit. You're going to smell like me.
You're going to smell like my son. That's the dew. And then thirdly, concerning
that dew of heaven. We're taught that His refreshing
and reviving and satisfying favor toward His people is according
to His eternal love and purpose and pleasure to show mercy. Not because He looked down and
saw anything in us that was worthy of Him showing mercy. He showed
mercy because it pleased Him to show mercy. Pleased him to
bless. Proverbs 19, I'll read this right
quick for you. Proverbs chapter 19, verse 12. The scripture says, the king's
wrath is as the roaring of a lion, but his favor is as dew upon
the grass. It's just pleasant. It's just
refreshing. It's cooling to the conscience.
That fresh dew. And the scripture sets forth
that God's blessing upon His people. He will give them the
dew of heaven. He's going to give them of Himself.
He's going to give them of His Son. And they themselves, being
one with Him, shall then be the dew. I'm going to read this to
you. Micah chapter 5 and verse 7. It says, And the remnant of Jacob. Now who is that? That's God's
elect. You know the remnant according
to God's mercy. The remnant of Jacob shall be
in the midst of many people as due from the Lord. As the showers
upon the grass that tarrieth not for man, nor waiteth for
the sons of men. What's it going to be like? Scattered
throughout this world. All among this world. God's got
a people. He's got some here. He's got
some there. And you're going to be as the dew of the Lord.
You're going to be as the dew from heaven, being blessed of
God. That's what it's going to be. Well, here back in Genesis
chapter 27, Isaac is blessing his son. And he blesses him. And he said, the Lord give thee
of the dew of heaven. And then he said, and the fatness
of the earth and plenty of corn and wine. Here's what he's going
to say. He said, I'm going to bless you
in your walk. I'm going to bless you. Now that,
again, that blessing right there proved itself to be a blessing
to the people of God. It came into Egypt whenever Isaac
had come in. you know, their residency was
taken up. I'm going to show you this in
Genesis 45. The Lord bless you with the fatness of the earth.
Look at Genesis 45. Genesis 45 verse 16. Joseph is going to sin for his
dad. You remember Joseph now. second
in command in Egypt. He's got the control over all
the corn. You remember there was a famine everywhere. And
he's going to sin, sin for his dad, his family. Y'all come on over. Stay over
here. Stay in Egypt where the Lord's
put me. In Genesis chapter 45 verse 16. And the fame thereof
was heard in Pharaoh's house concerning Joseph's brethren.
are calm and it pleased Pharaoh well in his service. And Pharaoh
said unto Joseph, say unto thy brethren, say unto your family,
your daddy and your brothers, say unto your brethren, this
do ye, lay your beast and go get you into the land of Canaan
and take your father and your households and come unto me and
I will give you the good of the land of Egypt and you shall eat
the fat of the lamb. Joseph's family was brought over
when the famine was everywhere. Pharaoh told Joseph, he said,
you tell your family, come on over here, and I'm gonna give
them the best of what I got. That amazed me when I read that. He was Pharaoh, had power over
all of it. And what did Almighty God move
upon him to give to Joseph's family? He said, you give them
the good of the land. You give them the most fruitful
part. You give them Goshen. What has
Almighty God purposed for his people? What has he given us
concerning the blessing that we have in Christ? the best. We have all of it. Isaiah 25,
Isaiah chapter 25, verses 6 and 8. I know we're turning to quite
a few passages here, but I want to show you this. Isaiah 25,
6 and 8. And in this mountain, what mountain? the mountain of the Lord, the
church, the bride, that's found in Isaiah 2, 2 and 3. In this
mountain shall the Lord of hosts make unto all his people a feast
of fat things, a feast of wine on the leaves, of fat things
full of marrow, wine on the leaves, well refined. He will destroy
in this mountain the face of the covering, cast over all people
the veil that is spread over all nations. He said, He will
swallow up death in victory, and the Lord God will wipe away
tears from all faces, and the rebuke of His people shall He
take away from off all the earth, for the Lord has spoken." What
is God going to do? He said, I'm going to give you
the best of all of it. I'm going to bless you. Oh, the
blessing that Almighty God gave Jacob and all of the Jacobs that
are here this morning. Through that blessing, I'm going
to give you, God give you, the dew of heaven, and the fatness,
the best of the earth, and the plenty of corn and wine. What is it? All things in Christ. We're blessed. And then in verse
29, he said, let people serve thee, and nations bow down to
thee. Now let me tell you this, because
I'm wrapping this up, this second message, it's not going to be
as long, but I'm going to make sure that we understand what he's
saying. What he was saying is this, to Jacob, when he says
let people serve thee, that never proved to be the case with Jacob
in this world. All but to Jacob's seed. to the one that Jacob, by the
grace of God, was made one with, the Messiah that would come years
later through Jacob's lineage. That's who he's talking about.
Not Jacob. Not all people were going to
serve Jacob, but all people were going to serve Jacob's God. Let
people serve Thee, and nations bow down to Thee, and be Lord
over Thy brethren. Let Thy mother's son bow down
to Thee, and cursed be every one that curseth Thee, and blessed
be he that blesseth Thee. Let me ask you this. Whenever
He told people, let people serve Thee, and nations bow down to
Thee, how many people in this world that's ever been born into
this world serve the Lord. All of them. Let me answer it
for you. I want you to look. Psalm 72.
Psalm 72. All people serve the Lord. When He said, let people serve
Thee and nations bow down to Thee. All of them. Psalm 72 verses
7 to 11. In His days shall the righteous
flourish in abundance of peace so long as the moon endureth.
He shall have dominion also from sea to sea and from the river
unto the ends of the earth. They that dwell in the wilderness
shall bow before Him. His enemies shall lick the dust.
The kings of Tarshish and the Isles shall bring presents. The
kings of Sheba and Sheba offer gifts. All kings shall fall down
before Him. All nations shall serve Him.
Do you realize that everything in this world, I've told you
this before, all the industry, all the stuff, all the presidents
and the prime ministers and all these cabinets and everything
that's going on in this world serves the purpose of God and
the redemption and salvation of His people. Every bit of it. Every bit of it. That's what
I quoted a while ago. All things work together for
good. Well, I don't see how that's
okay. That's all right. I don't see what the President
of the United States has to do with going over there and going
to meet with Putin. That's okay. That's all right. It doesn't matter that I don't
see it or you either. It don't. He said all nations
are going to serve you. Whatever is going on in this
world right now, yesterday, and if Lord tarries tomorrow, is
going to be to the glory of God in the redemption and salvation
of His people. I can tell you right now, He
told Jacob, In that blessing concerning Jacob's Lord, let
people serve Thee, nations bow down to Thee, be Lord over Thy
brethren, let Thy mother's sons bow down to Thee. Cursed is everyone
that curses Thee, and blessed be everyone that blesses Thee.
How many knees are going to bow? How many tongues are going to
confess that He's Lord? How many? All of them. He said, Jacob, you're going
to know that. You're going to understand that.
You're going to behold that. And then the scripture sets forth
that that blessing was given to Jacob. And he blessed him. And I'm just
going to read right down. I'm going to read some scriptures.
And I'm going to say something about what Esau said when he
came in. I'm going to close. Verse 30, And it came to pass,
as soon as Isaac had made an end of blessing Jacob, and Jacob
was yet scarce, gone out of the presence of Isaac his father,
that Esau his brother came in from hunting. And he also had
made savory meat, and brought it unto his father, and said
unto his father, Let my father arise, and eat of his son's venison,
that thy soul may bless thee. And Isaac his father said unto
him, Who art thou? And he said, I am thy son, thy
firstborn Esau. And Isaac trembled very exceedingly
and said, Who? Where is he that hath taken venison,
brought it me, and I have eaten of all before thou camest, and
blessed him? Yea, and he shall be blessed.
You know what this fellow knew? He knew that God's providence
had been done. God's will had been done. Isaac the daddy knew
then that God was going to bless Jacob. And he said, I blessed
him. and he's going to be blessed.
And when Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with
a great and exceeding bitter cry, and said unto his father,
Bless me, even me also, O my father. And he said, Thy brother
came with subtlety, and hath taken away thy blessing. And
he said, Is not he rightly named Jacob? He hath supplanted me
these two times. He took away my birthright, and
behold, now he hath taken away my blessing, and has said, Hast
thou not reserved a blessing for me? That's not true. He gave
that birthright. He came in. It's Genesis 25. You can go back for the sake
of time. Go back and read it. You know what happened. He came
in. Esau was hungry. Jacob was cooking. And Esau smelled it. He said,
give me something to eat. And Jacob said, give me your
birthright. Esau said, that's fine, I don't care. He had no
love, no concern for the glory of God. He had no love for God's
promise. He had no love for God's glory.
He said, you can have it. He said, swear to me. He said,
I swear. You can have it, get him something
to eat. When he said he took away my birthright, no sir. And he didn't have the birthright
anymore and now he's not going to get the blessing because only
the one that's got the birthright, Esau gave it to him. He said,
I don't care for it. He took it away. No, no sir.
There's not a sinner that rejects and hates the glory of God in
the Lord Jesus Christ that's going to receive God's blessing. He says in his heart, I don't
want it. Is he not rightly named Jacob? Look at verse 37. And
Isaac answered and said unto Esau, Behold, I have made him
thy Lord, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants,
and with corn and wine have I sustained him. What shall I do now unto
thee, my son? And Esau said unto his father,
Hast thou but one blessing, my father? That's the question that
every false religionist asks. Is there only one way to get
a blessing from God? Surely there's got to be more.
All these religions out here, surely there's got to be another
one. Surely there's something. Is there but one blessing? Hast thou but one blessing? God's
got one blessing, and it's in His Son. Bless me, even me, also my father. And Esau lifted up his voice
and wept. And Isaac, his father, answered and said unto him, Behold,
thy dwelling shall be in the fatness of the earth and of the
dew of heaven from above. You know, when you first read
that, almost like it said the same thing that he said to Jacob. Oh, wait a minute. I think I
see one big difference. In Jacob's blessing in verse
27, It said, therefore, God give thee of the dew of heaven. What
did Esau have? He says, thy dwelling, thy dwelling
shall be the fatness of the earth and of the dew of heaven from
above. There's a lot of people that are in the midst of God's
blessing. There's a lot of people that
live right here in this area right here. They're in the midst
of God's blessing. But Almighty God has been pleased
to give the dew of heaven to some and to leave others to themselves.
What did Esau get? He said, thy dwelling shall be
in the fatness of the earth and of the dew of heaven from above.
And by thy sword shall thou live. and shall serve thy brother,
and it shall come to pass, when thou shalt have the dominion,
that thou shalt break his yoke from off thy neck." He said,
this is what you're going to have, my son. And this is according
to God's will and God's purpose. God's been pleased to give the
blessing to Jacob. I blessed him, and he's going
to be blessed. Because the blessing was of the
Lord. God gave him the dew of heaven. And you're going to be
in the midst of it. And you'll see it and behold
it. May Almighty God reveal to us,
listen, salvation is of the Lord. God blesses whomsoever He will. He's sovereign in heaven and
earth. That's what Nebuchadnezzar said.
He doeth as He will in the army of heaven. among the inhabitants
of earth, and none can stay His hand. If God Almighty has given
you a heart to bow to Him, thank Him, praise Him for that, for
Christ's sake. Amen.
