Let's take our Bibles once again.
Turn with me to the book of John. John chapter 16. John 16. I'd like to look at verses 14
and 15 this morning. John 16, 14, and 15. The scripture says, speaking
of the Holy Spirit, He shall glorify me, for he shall receive of mine,
and shall show it unto you. All things that the Father hath
are mine. Therefore said I, that he shall
take of mine, and shall show it unto you." Last week we looked at the blessed
work of the Holy Spirit. The Scripture says concerning
the Holy Spirit that He will guide you into all truth. That is the truth of the Lord
Jesus Christ who is the truth. The Spirit of God will always
guide God's people, regenerated by the grace of God. He will
guide them into the truth concerning Christ. John 8.32 says, Ye shall
know the truth. He is the truth. He is the truth. What we know concerning Him is
the truth about Him who is the truth. We talk about truth outside
of Christ. There's no truth. Everything's
a lie. Truth. And the truth shall set you free. The Lord said concerning the
Holy Spirit of God, He shall not speak of Himself. That's what it says in verse
13. He shall not speak of Himself. Now as we said last time, not
that He will not reveal anything about Himself. Now if the Spirit
of God didn't reveal anything about Himself, then we wouldn't
have any idea what He does. What His work is. The application of the truth
to God's people. If we didn't know that, then...
But what it means is that He doesn't speak independently of
the will and the work of the Father and of the Son. He doesn't speak of Himself. Now listen to this. Whatsoever
He shall hear. according to the will and the
counsel and the purpose of the Trinity. Now, we know that there's
an everlasting covenant. God does everything on purpose. God has a will. Everything has been ordered by
God Almighty. According to His will, according
to His covenant, nothing is left to chance. He worketh all things
after the counsel of His own will. So the Spirit of God, who was at, in, That everlasting
covenant of grace, I don't even know how to say it, but that
according to God's eternal covenant of grace. David said, this is
all my salvation. He made with me an everlasting
covenant, a promise. Gave His word. It's all my hope,
all my salvation. Spirit of God knows. It's what
He heard concerning God's will. Spirit of God, who is God? That's
what He speaks. Scripture says in the latter
part of verse 13, He will show you things to come. What we know,
we know in part. What we know, we see through
a glass darkly, but we know. We know that there's life after
life. We know that. We know that it
just doesn't end. I tell you what, that would be
what man would hope it would be. When this life's over, this
is it. Let's eat, drink and be merry
because tomorrow we're going to die and that's going to be the
end of it. No. No. No. The Spirit of God is going
to show God's people what he's heard. That's what he's going
to speak. He's not going to speak of himself. He's going to set
forth Christ. He's going to show you things
to come. Now, verse 14, where are we going to begin today?
He shall glorify me. He shall glorify me. He shall make me glorious. He is going to raise in honor the Son. The Lord Jesus, He's
going to glorify me. You write this down. The work of the Holy Spirit of
God is to magnify the Lord Jesus Christ. He's going to magnify
Him as the surety of the sheep, the redeemer of the sheep, the
great high priest, the one that the Father is well pleased with
and in, He's going to magnify me, He's going to glorify me. If you want to know the acid
test, find out if somebody is lying concerning the work of
the Holy Spirit, you listen to what that spirit, that preacher. Believe not every spirit. Try
the spirits. Try the preachers by the Word
of God. And if they're setting forth
that the work of the Holy Spirit is this fanaticism, speaking
in tongues, and snake handlers, if that's what they're setting
forth, they're lying. They're lying. Every God called,
God taught, Preacher magnifies the Lord Jesus Christ because
that's what the Spirit of God has taught Him. We speak of Him. Paul said, I'm
determined, I'm determined not to preach anything but Jesus
Christ and Him crucified and all the work of redemption. From
electing grace to the glorification of God's saints is according
to the work of the Lord Jesus Christ. Him. Him. Where the Spirit
of God is moving and blessing, Christ is honored. We were chosen
in Him, we were redeemed by Him, and we're effectually called
unto Him. My sheep, Hear my voice. I know them. They follow me. They follow me. In Him, the Scripture says, Colossians
2, 9 and 10, In Him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead. This is the most amazing passage
of Scripture. All the fullness of the Godhead. bodily. And ye are complete in
him which is the head of all principality and power. Any authority
has been raised up, is raised up by God. You know that. The Lord works all these things.
He's the head of all principality He is above every name, every
name. He is our mediator. You know what that means? That
there is no name in heaven or earth, there's no name. I don't care if that name is
Mary, I don't care if that name is Jude or Christopher, whoever
you name, He is above every name. At the name of the Lord Jesus
Christ, every knee is going to bow, every tongue is going to
confess that He's Lord. In Him dwelleth all the fullness
of the Godhead bodily. And this, the Scripture says,
1 John 5, 11 is the record that God has given to us eternal life,
and this life is in His Son. Now listen. He that hath the Son hath life. He that hath the Son, not He
that hath exercised His will, He that hath been baptized, He
that has walked down the aisle, He that hath the Son hath life. Here again, I tell you what,
John 14, 6 answers a lot of questions. I am the way. You know what that
means? That means excluding everything
else. Yeah, but I thought you had to,
I am the way. But I thought I needed to, I
am the way. I'm the truth, I'm the life. And no man comes to the father
but by me. I'm telling you, You know what
that does for a believer? Oh, that I might know Him. I
said a minute ago that I might know Him, be found in Him. We're justified. That means the
law of God looks and says no guilt. No record of guilt. No record of guilt. When Almighty God creates a new
man, created in righteousness. That new man created in righteousness
that sinneth not. Now listen, this old man right
here was born in sin and I still sin right now. I don't want to,
but I do. And I cannot stop it. I'm not making an excuse for
rebellion. I'm not doing that. What I'm
saying is I cannot not sin. And for that, I'm sorry. And
the older I get, the more I seem to realize it, I guess. I don't
know, but it just grieves me more. But I know this. If I'm His,
and He's put away my guilt, and He was made sin for me, and bore
my guilt in His own body, and Almighty God dealt with Him and
put away my sin, the debt of it, presence of it still there,
but He bore the guilt of it. If He's paid the guilt of it,
it's paid, it was paid. And there's a new man created
in righteousness. You know what the law says? No guilt. Justified. One day by the grace
of God, this old body, this old man is going to be put away. There's one thing left, that
which was created in Christ Jesus. This corruptible is going to
put on incorruption. This mortal is going to put on
immortality. This body of death is going to
be life. I know this according to God's
Word. Justified by His death and His
life. By His substitution on my behalf
and His imputed righteousness. No guilt. No guilt. Secondly, pardoned by his blood,
because he's paid the debt, Jeff, he can freely forgive me. Why, he can forgive what I'm
doing right now, Mitch. My inability to think as I ought
to, speak as I ought to, remember as I ought to, I forgive you. Why? Christ bore
the debt of it, paid the debt. Thirdly, atonement, covering
by His sacrifice. The scripture says, He shall
glorify me. He shall lift me, honor me, for
He shall receive of mine and shall show it unto you. This is an amazing passage of
scripture right here. He shall take, get hold of, he shall receive
that which is mine and shall announce it in detail,
rehearse it or report it unto you. Now, stay with me a second. He shall receive of mine. He's going to take that which
is mine, that which belongs to me. And He's going to reveal
it unto you. Now, to understand what He just
said, we've got to read verse 15. Listen to this. What is the Lord's? He shall
receive of mine. He shall receive of mine and
show it unto you all things. Now what is the Lord's? What
is it? What's His possession? Here it
is. All things that the Father hath are mine. Therefore said I that
He shall take of mine and shall show it unto you. What is the Lord's? Everything. Everything that the Father hath.
What does the Father have? Everything. I wouldn't even begin to try
to start naming them. Let me just say this. The earth
is the Lord's. All things are mine. All that
the Father hath are mine. Listen to John 17, 2. The Lord is praying His high
appreciative prayer. As thou hast given Him power
over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many
as thou hast given Me. What is His? All power. I just quoted this, how much
of this world belongs to the Lord? The earth is the Lord's.
All souls are mine. All the souls are mine. And He
has the right to do with His own as He will. He's got the
right. He's got the right. I said before,
does He have the right to show mercy to whomsoever He will?
He said He did. Why? Because all souls are mine.
Does he have the right to leave a man or a woman to themselves
in unbelief? Does he have the right to do
that? Absolutely. He shall take that which is mine
and show it unto you. I'm telling you, the scripture,
he that hath the Son hath life. This is it. He that hath the
Son has everything. all power, all honor. John 3.35, the Father loveth
the Son and hath given all things into his hand. All things. Everything in creation, that's
the sons. Everything in providence, every
leaf that falls, Every rat that moves. Every worm that burrows. Every person born in this world.
Every person that dies. Every person that lives. Everything
in providence is His. He made it. He made it for Himself. For His honor. For His glory.
Everything in creation, everything in providence, and everything
in salvation. That's what he said in John 17
too. You've given him power over all
flesh. He can take this person, put
this person, put them together. And they have a child and that
child grows up and he gets this one over here and puts him over
here because he's got an elect. All power he raises up. God puts down. Why? Because all
things are His. Colossians. Colossians chapter
1. Let me just read it to you or
you can turn there. Colossians 1. I'm going to read
verses 12 to 20. Colossians 1. Verse 12 to 20. Listen to this. unto the Father, which hath made
us meet or fit to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints
in light, who hath delivered us from the power of darkness,
and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son, in whom
we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of
sins, who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn
of every creature, For by Him were all things created that
are in heaven, that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether
they be thrones or dominions or principalities or powers,
all things were created by Him and for Him. He's before all
things. And by Him, all things consist. And He's the head of the body,
the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead,
that in all things He might have the preeminence. For it pleased
the Father that in Him should all fullness dwell. And having
made peace through the blood of His cross, by Him to reconcile
all things unto Himself, by Him, I say, whether they be things
in earth or things in heaven, everything's His. The Father
has put all things in the hands of the Son. All the glory and
all the honor and all the praise is to Him. And that's what the
Spirit of God is going to reveal. And all the honor in salvation
goes to the Lord. Salvation is of the Lord. All that the Father hath are mine. John 17 10, the Lord
in praying that high priestly prayer said this, and all mine
are thine. And thine are mine. And I'm glorified
in them. The Father, the Son, the Spirit, They're one in will,
one in purpose, one in essence. God is not divided. And we speak
of the three persons of the Godhead and we speak rightly so. But He's one God. That's a great
mystery. Who can explain that? No one
in this world. All that's the Father's is the
Son, given to the Son. And all that's given to the Son,
He said, according to verse 15, is His. And all that's His is
the Father's. The redemption and the salvation
of God's, the Father's gift to the Son, to His elect, to His
bride, They glorify the Son as they come to Him as the Savior.
And the Son, as the Redeemer and the Savior of God's elect,
glorifies the Father who chose Him. Father chose Him, gave Him
to the Son. And the Lord Jesus says, all
that's yours is mine, and all that's mine is yours. and they glorify. The Son glorifies
the Father, the Father glorifies the Son, and the Spirit of God
applies it to our hearts and teaches us. Our Lord Jesus said in John 17,
for I have glorified, I have magnified thee, Father, on the
earth. I finished the work which thou
gavest me to do. All things given to the Son. And not only were all things
in electing grace given to Him, but listen, all things being
given to the Son, the responsibility for faithfulness given to the
Son. The responsibility for the salvation
of God's elect given to the Son, yes. but that faithfulness in
the earning of a righteousness before God given to the Son. The Father looked to the Son
always, looked to the surety always. If He fails, we have
no hope. He shall not fail. He shall. All things are given
unto Me, my Father. The responsibility The responsibility
of redemption. He must be made sin. Why? Because God's just. All
things are given unto the Son. It's His responsibility. Oh,
I'm so thankful that the Father would look to Him. Don't look
to me. I'm going to fail, but not Him. I'm going to falter, but not
Him. The responsibility of being King of kings and Lord of lords. The responsibility of being the
brightness of the Father's glory given to Him. You think of the
responsibility that was given to the Lord Jesus Christ. I cannot
say that respectfully enough. The responsibility. It's your
responsibility. for the salvation of God the
Father's elect. It's your responsibility. And
the Father said, two different occasions. It's baptism, the
Mount of Transfiguration. This is my beloved Son in whom
I'm well pleased. I'm well pleased with Him. You
hear Him. You listen to Him. You look to
Him. Oh, the faithful witness. That's
the Lord Jesus. He's the heir of all things.
All things that the Father hath are mine. The heir. He's the bishop of our souls. He's our hiding place. He's our
door. All that the Father hath to give,
That's everything He'd given to the Son. And the Holy Spirit
reveals it. And He speaks to the hearts of
God's people. And they hear it. And they believe
it. And they come to Christ as their
hope. And they admit, Lord, I believe. Lord, help mine unbelief. That
regenerated saint. Let me ask you this in closing.
Do you hear the voice of the shepherd as he speaks by his
Holy Spirit, who is the teacher, the comforter of God's saint? You just think right now. All
of my hope is in my Lord. The Spirit of God taught you
that. The Spirit of God taught you
of your frailty. The Spirit of God taught you
of His sufficiency. The Spirit of God taught you
that He's not going to leave you. He's not going to leave
you. He's not going to forsake you. He's going to keep you. He's
going to show you the things of Christ. Show you the things
to come. Show you of the things that the
Father has given Him. Holy Spirit, teach us today. Show us of Christ. Show me afresh
of Christ. I know to many, they think, and
they've expressed, do you have anything else to say besides
this? They said to Clay Curtis one
time, do you have any new material? I don't want to talk about anything
else. Let's speak of Him. Do you realize that the Lord
Jesus Christ is all the Holy Spirit is going to speak about? Would I be so foolish as to speak
of something else besides what God speaks about? Lord bless
these words to our heart for Christ's sake.
