Joshua chapter 6, and we'll be
looking at verses 1 through 25 this Lord's Day morning. The title of my message this
morning, Three Sure Things at Jericho. Three Sure Things at
Jericho. Now, just before this chapter,
just before these events that happened at Jericho, we know
that God commanded the people of Israel to cross over the River
Jordan. After 40 years of spending time
in the wilderness because of their disobedience, the time
had come for them to come into the land that God had promised
their fathers before them. And now then, as they had come
to the River Jordan, God did a most miraculous thing. He set
the priest and the Ark of the Covenant into the brink of the
River Jordan, and as soon as they stepped into the river,
the river dried up on one side. The water was held back from
the east side, and from the west on, it did not flow. And so that
just like at the Red Sea, the children of Israel went through
on dry ground. And this did not go unnoticed. This miracle. There was noise
about the land of Canaan. About what happened at the river
Jordan. So much that they feared. They
feared the people of Israel. And no doubt the king of Jericho
had heard of this miraculous thing that God had done. And
that God was going to deliver the land of Canaan into the hand
of His people. What do you think that the king
of Jericho should have done when he heard that? What do you think
he should have done when he heard the mighty hand of God was with
Israel and was going to give them the land? Surely, they would
have been like the Gibeonites. Surely, they would have come
and sought peace with Israel before they were destroyed. But
we know that's not what happened. Verse 1 tells us that Jericho
was straightly shut up because of the children of Israel. And
none went out and none came in. This, my friends, was the answer
of Jericho to the God of Israel. They said, I will not go quietly
in the night. You won't take me without a fight. That's the heart that they had.
And so they shut themselves up. And they trusted in the walls
of their city to protect them from the Almighty God. I read some archeological studies
on the city of Jericho. And they found walls. that were
laying flat in these archaeological studies, and they measured the
walls to be 30 feet high. 30 feet high! And these walls were not singular. There were two walls around the
city of Jericho, one on the outside and one on the inside. And these
walls were about anywhere from 10 to 15 feet thick. Each wall was 10 to 15 feet thick. And in between the walls lie
a span of space about 15 feet in between each wall. These walls,
they trusted in and they shut themselves up behind these walls. These walls were the strength
of their defense to shut themselves up that they would defy the Almighty
God of Israel. But we read in verse 2 that these
walls were nothing but feudal. These things cannot stop the
Almighty God, the Lord of heaven and the Lord of earth. God says
in verse 2 to Joshua, see, look at those walls. I have given into thine hand
Jericho and the king and the mighty men of valor. God, my
friend, had already declared their defeat. He had already
declared defeat and judgment upon that city. The God who created
the heavens and the earth by His Word alone, do you think
for one moment that the walls of men could stop the Almighty
God? No. Notice this, that God says, I
have given. My friends, that's past tense.
He said, I have already given them to you. I have already done
it. Who else can call things that
are not as though they were? Who else can do that but God?
And God did that. He said, I've already given them
in divine hand. They will be judged. I will execute
judgment upon them, God says. And in verses 3 through 5, God
reveals how. The method in which He will execute
judgment. Look at this. Verse 3, He says,
It shall come to pass the city You shall compass the city, all
ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou
do for six days. And seven priests shall bear
before the ark seven trumpets of ram's horns. And on the seventh
day you shall compass the city seven times, and the priests
shall blow the trumpets And it shall come to pass that when
they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when you hear
the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a
great shout, and the wall of the city shall fall down flat,
and the people shall ascend to every man straight before Him."
Does this not sound strange? Does this not sound strange to
you? How that God would deliver the city of Jericho You see, He commanded Joshua
to set the priest before the ark. The ark always went first.
And the priest shall go before the ark, and then the mighty
man shall follow. Who ever heard of putting priest
in the front and the mighty man in the back? Have you ever heard
of such a campaign before? Have you ever heard of such a
military strategy as this? That's what God did. He said,
you're going to march around that city, One time a day for
six days. On the seventh day, you're going
to march around that city seven times, and on the seventh time,
the priest will blow the trumpet, and the people shall shout with
a great shout, and the wall of the city shall fall flat. You know, when they found those
cities, those walls, I noticed this when I was reading as well.
When that wall fell, the outer wall fell, they both fell outward. They didn't fall inward. Jericho
was on a hill. And so that in order to get up
the hill, God gave them a ramp. The outer wall fell and the other
wall fell right in the gap between the other wall so that they might
run straight across and destroy the city all at once. And so
the children of Israel, they obeyed the voice of God and they
did that. And when they marched that first
time around, guess what happened? Nothing. When they marched the
second time, guess what happened? Nothing. For six days they did
this, and on the seventh day, they marched around one, two,
three. Nothing happened until the seventh time on the seventh
day. And God said, blow the trumpets and shout, and they did. And
this is what happened in verse 20. And the people shouted and
the priests blew with the trumpets. And it came to pass when they
heard the sound of the trumpets, the people shouted with a great
shout. And surprise, surprise, surprise,
the wall fell down. Isn't that what God said He would
do? Isn't that what God said He would do? And the people rushed
straight before Him and took the city. As soon as they shouted,
these walls fell down. And the men of Israel rushed
in, unsuspecting, upon the people of Jericho. And they were all destroyed but
one. If you can imagine this city,
it had those walls and on top of the walls were houses. And
every wall and every house fell flat except for one, and that
was Rahab the harlot's house. That house stood firm and everyone
in it was saved. Everyone in it was saved because
of her faith and the covenant that she had made with the house
of Israel. This, my friend, is a wonderful
history. I just described to you briefly the history of this
story that every child in this building knows. Joshua fought
the battle of Jericho, and the walls came tumbling down. Everybody
knows this history. But this has a greater purpose,
as does all the history of the Word of God. Every time that
the Word of God is expounded in the Old Testament, we should
be looking not for history, but we should be looking for Christ.
We should be looking for the spiritual application of the
message that God intended this for, for our good and His glory. We should look for that. And
as I tried several months ago to use this Scripture, I was
shut out. I was not able to see. But as
I studied this last week, this opened to me like a rose. It
was so beautiful. And I pray for God's grace to
be able to describe the rose that is set before me in the
passage of Scripture we have here. It is a beautiful picture.
A beautiful picture of God. I want us to see three points.
Three points about this message this morning, this text, that
I hope will bless you, that you may know Christ, and a warning
to those who do not know Christ, that there is forgiveness of
sins with Him, and if not, there is judgment to be had. First
of all, I want us to see three sure things. A sure judgment.
A sure judgment. I want us to see, secondly, a
sure method of victory. And I want us to see, thirdly,
a sure deliverance. A sure deliverance from this
story. First of all, a sure judgment.
I want us to notice that this sure judgment is a judgment,
first of all, against a walled city. A judgment against a walled
city. As God declared judgment upon
Jericho, even so has God Almighty declared judgment upon all those
who have sinned against Him." God has already declared judgment. The sentence has already been
passed by God. That He will destroy all who
have sinned against Him. And these people of Jericho,
they are a demonstration. They are a picture of all of
Adam's race. by nature, both elect and non-elect. Remember, Rahab was in the city
just like all the rest of them. And so are we born as children
of wrath in this world. We are all born as a picture
of Jericho. This is a manifestation of us
who are in rebellion, in unregenerate state of natural man. These men
of Jericho, when they heard of God's coming judgment, what did
they do? What did they do? What every natural man does by
nature. By every natural man does by
nature, they feared. They feared. Go back to chapter
5 and verse 1. Look at this. And it came to
pass when all the kings of the Amorites, which were on the side
of Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, which
were by the sea, heard that the Lord had dried up the waters
of Jordan before the children of Israel until they were passed
over... Listen to what happened. that
their heart melted, neither was their spirit in them anymore."
This is what happened to Jericho. They feared. They feared when
God said there was judgment coming. And just as I tell men God is
coming in judgment to all who have broken His holy law, that
God declares that God is a jealous God. And my friends, this is
not jealousy like you and I have. This is a jealousy for glory. You see, God deserves all glory
and He demands it of every one of you and every bit of me. He demands glory. He's jealous
of it. And the Lord revengeth, the Scripture
said. The Lord revengeth and is furious. Scripture says God is angry with
the wicked every day. will take vengeance on His adversaries
and reserve it. That means stores up, stores
it up, His wrath for His enemies. And I tell you, if you even have
an inkling of who God is, and when I tell you He's coming in
judgment, you should fear. If you have any sanity in your
mind whatsoever, you should fear God is coming in judgment. And
who shall stop Him? Who will stop God from taking
vengeance? He will take vengeance upon all
outside of Christ. But see, natural man, even though
he's afraid, he's like Jericho. He doesn't give up. He shuts
himself in his walled cities. Instead of surrendering. Instead
of thinking of something that's logical, that's rational. God
dried up the river so these people can come across. What do you
think He's going to do to you? And yet they shut themselves
up and so does everyone. Of you, outside of Christ, by
your nature, you shut up against it. You pit yourselves against
God, as Jericho did. Instead of asking for mercy,
they shut themselves up. They sink back and fall upon
what they think will stand against God in the day of judgment. These
people of Jericho thought those walls were going to stand against
God. And so does every lost man when he hears God's judgment,
he falls back on something he's done. He falls back on some wall
that he's made to earn his favor with God. Some say, my wall is
a wall of religion. I'm a Catholic. I'm a Baptist. I'm a Calvinist. They fall back
on something. God's coming in judgment. Oh,
let me think of something. Well, I'm a Baptist. Surely God
won't do anything to me. Well, I believe in Calvinism.
Surely I'm safe now. They trust in the strength of
their church or they trust in the strength of their knowledge
or understanding of Scripture. Rather than trusting in Christ
alone, they trust in these things. It's nothing more than a wall
you built against God. Some will fall back on their
decision. They'll fall back on their free
will and they'll say, well, I followed Jesus. I had made my decision
for Him. Surely God won't destroy me now. Surely He won't come in judgment
for me. You see, I've made my peace with
God. I'm all right. My friend, if you made your peace
with God, you have no peace with God. I promise you, God's coming
in judgment for you. God's coming in judgment for
you. Some say, I've been baptized, surely the church is my refuge. No. See, some trust in the walls
of their best deeds, or their best, as long as they're sincere.
You ever heard of that? You ever heard someone say, well,
you know, you've just got to be sincere in what you believe.
You believe that, and that's good. You're sincere in that.
But I'm sincere in this other thing over here, and surely God
won't come in vengeance if I'm just sincere in my heart. My friend, God never asks for
your sincerity. You know that? He never asked
for that. God demanded your holy perfection. Not your best. God doesn't want
your best. It ain't good enough. And people
who rely on their best. God's coming for you. God's coming
for you. And some say, well, God loves
everybody. I believe in a God that loves everybody, that Jesus
died for everybody. Surely God, who is a God of love,
will not come in vengeance. Yes, He will. Yes, He shall come
and take vengeance. That's what God says. God, who
is a God of love, is also a God of justice. And He will not,
He will not defy His justice at His love. He will not do it. He will not love you at the expense
of His justice. But hear the Word of God and
what God says to these religious free will, worse religion, people
who believe in a God of their own imagination. In Isaiah 25,
he says, Because you have said, I have made a covenant with death,
and with hell we have made an agreement. The overflowing scourge
shall not pass through. It shall not come unto us. We
have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood we have hid ourselves.
My friends, anything other than Jesus Christ and Him crucified
as your only hope, you are in a refuge of lies. You have made
a covenant with death and with hell, and God says, I've disannulled
it. Your covenant is no good. I will
come in judgment upon you. God points out in that same chapter,
there is only one refuge, one hope. One foundation, and that
is Christ alone. And all who are resting on Christ
and something else, God says, I'll come and cut you all. That's
what God says. That's not what I'm saying, my
friends. What I say don't matter. What God says is what matters. God says He'll come and cut you
all. If you do not repent and leave
your walled city, I promise you this, Jesus, who is Joshua, is
coming to take vengeance and God has given them into His hand. God is giving them into His hand.
Number two, I want us to notice about this sure judgment, that
this judgment was swift. It was swift. It was fast. It
was fast. When the time had come for them
to blow the trumpets and to shout, as soon as they blew the trumpets,
the walls fell down. The second those trumpets sounded
and the second those people shouted, the walls collapsed. And it was
over. It was over in a moment. Archaeologists
said when they found in the ruins of Jericho, they found bread
in ovens. People were sitting down to eat.
People were sitting down to eat. They were expecting to eat that
bread. And all of a sudden, judgment came. Judgment came. They said that they found spears
and swords leaning up against the walls. Why? They expected a long siege. They thought that these people
were sieging them. That they would be there for
days, for months, for years, sieging them. And they looked
around and said, we had plenty of store. We could stay here
forever. They can't siege us. God wasn't
planning on sieging them. God was planning on taking them
and destroying them. My friend, death comes upon us
all suddenly. Death comes upon men suddenly. I heard there was a wreck the
other day. Seven people lost their lives. I'm sure they had great plans,
don't you? I'm sure they had great things
that they had to do that day. I'm sure that they had a schedule
of things that they were going to do next week. I'm sure that
they had plans for their family, and their retirement, and everything
else, and all of a sudden, gone into eternity. Just like that. God says, Thou fool, this night
thy soul is required of thee. Who shall these things be? Death
comes suddenly. And you that have lived long
lives, has it not been sudden? Has it not gone by in a moment? Yes, it has. And so shall you
young people. Listen to me carefully. Your
lives may seem slow now, but they are moving at a pace. And
they will not stop. Time doesn't stop for anyone.
Death is coming. Hell is moving. God will bring
judgment. And if a man remain till Christ
comes, even then it'll be a sudden coming. Scripture says, in a
twinkling of an eye, he shall come. He shall come. Sinner, hear me. Rebel, hear my words. God is coming, and He is coming
for you. He is coming for you. This is
a sure judgment. Forsake your refuge. Run from
it. God's coming. God's coming. Look by faith to Christ and surrender. Surrender. It is only there you
will find peace by the blood of His cross. In no other place. Number two, a sure method of
victory. A sure method of victory. Just as sure as God said, I will
judge them in righteousness. God's not what men call unfair. God will judge you according
to all your works. Whatever you deserve, that's
exactly what you will receive. No more and no less. God is righteous. The problem is, we all deserve
hell. We all deserve hell. We don't
deserve anything good. But God will judge in righteousness. And God who has ordained the
end from the beginning has also ordained all of the means in
between. In our text, we see that God
ordained one method. One means by which Jericho would
be destroyed. And the same means he destroyed
Jericho with is the same means he saved Rahab with. You notice
that? Same thing. He didn't prescribe
anything different for Rahab, did he? It was the same method. March around the city one time
a day for six days. The seventh day, march around
seven times, blow the trumpets and shout. One method. One method. And that was the marching and
shouting of Israel. This, no doubt, was to the soldiers
on those giant walls something to be mocked. Don't you think
that they ridiculed them? Surely, they walked around the
first day, they were kind of nervous. They didn't know what
they were going to do. Second day came. A little less nervous,
right? Third day, fourth day, fifth
day, man, they're laughing, joking now. They're having fun, making
fun of them. Look at them, they're just marching
around. What is that going to do? It's not going to do anything.
They've got trumpets, they've got the priest, they've got the
order all wrong. The priests are in the front
and the mighty men are in back. They're doing it all wrong. Surely,
we're going to easily defeat these people. They said it was never heard
in the history of warfare. These Jews did it all wrong. They seemed so foolish in the
eyes of those of Jericho, didn't they? Now, I've heard of warfare tactics
against big walls, battering rams. You ever heard of those?
They take a big ram and they ram the wall. I've heard of explosives,
haven't you? Blowing up walls. I've heard
of that. I've heard of tearing down walls
and pulling them down. I've heard of putting up ladders
to go over the walls. But I've never heard marching
around the walls. I've never heard of that before.
And neither did they. But my friends, to them it was
pointless. But to the children of Israel,
it was the method of victory. It was the method of victory.
These trumpets, they didn't trust in the trumpets and they didn't
trust in their shouts. They trusted in God who ordained
the method. God ordained the method. God
gave His sanction to it. And they said, whatever. If that's
what God wants, that's what we do. That's what we will do. This method was a method of victory
over Jericho. And this method, my friend, is
a type of the preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ. That's
what this method is. It is a picture of the preaching
of the gospel that we are doing here this morning. And people of our day, like Jericho,
mock us. They mock what we do here. They
mock and say, surely there's something better than what you're
doing. Surely there's something greater. They say, where's the promise
of His coming? You keep promising He's coming. Where is it? We
don't see it? You're foolish. They say, surely
there's a better way to get people to come to Christ than what you're
doing. You just stand up talking to people. People don't like
that. Surely there's a better way. You're not going to appeal
to their nature if you don't do that. You don't change. They say, surely you must negotiate
with men. Reason with them. Sit down and
have group discussions. Let them tell you their opinion
about something, and then you tell them your opinion, and then
y'all can all be happy and live together. They say, surely that's
a better way than just telling men what God says. They say,
surely there's a better way. You must appeal to their guilt. You must beat them with the law,
battering rams, explosives. You've got to get through to
people. You've got to impact your world for Jesus. Whatever
that is. They talk about lifting weights
for Jesus or something. Some foolishness. They say, surely
you've got to entertain the children. Surely you've got to get them
over here and get a basketball court and have a bunch of pizza
parties so the children will be happy. Surely that's a better
way. Surely people will come. Look
at my church. We have billions of people coming and they're
all happy. And you're standing there preaching
the Gospel and people are tired. My friends, that's what the world
says about what I'm doing this morning. But see, to them, it's
foolish. To me, it's not. To me, this
is the method of victory. This is the method of victory.
The shouting and the blowing of the trumpet of the gospel
is the method that God has used to determine judgment upon sinners
and salvation upon His elect. This is the only way. I was listening to a man on the
radio the other day, and he's a political man. He's turned
politics into his faith. I can tell by the way he's talking
now. He said, you know, we've got to have faith in our Constitution. We've got to have faith, and
we've got to rally around, and we've got to get a bunch of people
excited about this so they can change the world. My friend,
that does not change the world. What I am doing here this morning
is what changes the world. Twelve men did this 2,000 years
ago and turned the known world upside down with it. And this
is the only way God saves men, and this is the way He declares
His message to them. And Paul says, I am a saver of
life unto life to some. You that believe, what a saver
of life this message is. To you who don't, this stinks. It's a savor of death. You don't
have any interest in it. You don't care for it. Either way, that doesn't stop
me or give me any reason to preach. The only reason I do this is
because God has ordained it. I don't care how foolish it looks
to men. I don't care. Laugh all they want to. God has
ordained this to happen. When I preach this morning, when
you hear my words this morning, make no mistake, you will not
go out of here the same as you came in. I promise you. Why? God says you won't. You see,
God sends forth His Word to do exactly what He purposes to do.
You will either walk out of here fortified more in your walls
of defense against God, or you will walk out of here surrendering
to Christ. One of the two. will happen.
You will not walk out of here stagnant. You'll walk out of
here saying, yeah, that's a good message, all right, but I think
I'm still going to hold on to what I got. Be my guest. And some of you will
walk out saying, God, thank you that you had mercy on me to give
me a heart to surrender. Oh, that I might surrender more
to Christ, that I might bow more to Christ. Some of you walk out
of here like that. But either way, you'll walk out of here
different. I know that. The nature of the lost sinner,
my friend, is utter madness. It was utter madness for them
to lock themselves against God, to think a wall of brick would
stop the Almighty. But that's exactly what men do.
They mock and defy the gospel, saying, surely these men are
foolish and idiots to sit there and preach such things. If you stand in opposition to
the gospel, my friend, I said this on Wednesday, any man that
stands in opposition on the gospel is like a worm standing in front
of a train. You will not stop the progress
of this gospel. It will do exactly what God says
it will do. He will accomplish His will.
And what is His will? To destroy some and to save some. That's God's will. And you won't
stop it. You kick at it, don't like it,
don't care, doesn't matter. God's going to do what God's
going to do and you're not going to stop Him. You're not going
to stop Him. Praise God. We are saved says,
praise God. I preached to you this morning
the Word of God. And as it goes forth out of my
mouth, it will not return to God void, but He will do it.
He by His will passes by some." Some of you, He'll pass by. Some
of you will grow up and you'll never have an interest in the
things of God. Why? Because God passed you by.
And there will be some though, there will be some that God will
have mercy on and He will not pass them by, but He will stop
and save their souls. Isn't that good? God is good
and worthy of our praise. So then, let us, like the Israelites
of old, blow the trumpet no matter what men say. Let us shout to
the highest of heavens, Jesus Christ is Lord! Bow down and
worship Him. Let us continue to do that even
though they mock us. Even though they say that there
are better things. Let us march around. March around,
for God shall fulfill all His purposes." If God has purposed to save someone
here this morning, who will stop it? Who will stop it? And yet, my
friend, if God has chosen to damn someone, who shall stop
it? Who shall stop it? God does whatsoever
He hath pleased. That's the God I worship. And
that's the only God to worship. And this God has given us a method
and we're going to use this method until we die and go to be with
Him, Lord willing, by His grace. Number three, a sure deliverance.
Read this in verse 25 of chapter 6. Joshua and Joshua saved Rahab
the harlot alive. A sure deliverance. Although
God had determined a sure judgment on Jericho, although He had determined
a sure method of victory, He had also determined a sure deliverance
for the house of Rahab the harlot. Now Rahab in this message, in
this particular passage, you know that she carries this label
all the way through the Scriptures, Rahab the harlot. I don't think
she continued in the profession of being a harlot after those
spies had come. After she had heard the Word
of God, no doubt she discontinued that lifestyle, but yet she still
carried the name. And she is a picture of every
one of the God's elect. Although that Christ has taken
away all our sins, yet we still claim the name sinner. A sinner
saved by grace. I am Rahab the harlot. And you that believe, I know
you confess the same thing. You confess your sin before God. And it is confession of our sins.
We take our place with Rahab. Now, when Rahab heard the Word
of God, and the spies came in unto her, she hid those spies.
And when she hid those spies, they made a covenant together.
They made a covenant. And those men said, if you hide
us, When we come and God destroys this city, He will save you and
everyone that comes into your house. That was the covenant
they made with the spies. And they said, take a scarlet
cord and put it out the window. Take that scarlet cord. And that
cord will be a token of the covenant that we made with you. So that when we come, you'll
be saved. And so when the trumpet blew and the people shouted and
the walls fell, it all fell except for one, and that was the house
that stood was the house of Rahab that had the scarlet thread hanging
down outside the window. You know, I imagine that every
time Joshua and them marched around that city, they marched
around that city every day, and they looked up and they saw that
scarlet cord hanging down out of that window. I imagine every
time Joshua saw that, he remembered his covenant. He remembered the
covenant that He made with Rahab the harlot. And so it is. Rahab is a picture of all of
God's elect and those who are chosen the holy remnant of God,
who as He has determined to save by His eternal covenant. Scripture
says that God said, I will make an everlasting covenant with
them that I will not turn away from them to do them good. And
so God has sent His Son into the world to be the surety of
that covenant, to ratify that covenant with His blood, and
whosoever He will give life and faith to and believe on Jesus
Christ. The Holy Spirit takes the blood
of Christ, and just like she hung that scarlet rope outside,
God takes the blood of Christ and applies it to the doorpost
of our hearts. So that when He passes by, when
the scourge comes, when judgment comes, He will see the blood
and I will pass over you. And just what He did here when
He saw the cord, the scarlet cord, which represents the blood
of Christ in Rahab's house hanging out that window. My friends,
when I see the cord, I'll pass over you. I'll pass over you."
That's a sure deliverance. A sure deliverance that God will
pass over all those in Christ. Friends, I ask you, have you
taken your place with Rahab? Do you see the destruction that's
coming? Do you believe the Word of God? And my friends, I march today. I blow the trumpet
now. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved. That's what God says. That's
what God says. And I don't mean believe on a
Savior that does a part. But my friends, you must surrender
all and rest on Him who has already accomplished salvation. It's
no good to rest on a Savior who made salvation possible. That
Savior don't exist. I point you to the Lamb of God
who has accomplished victory and salvation for all who believe
on Him. Jesus said this, whosoever will
save his life, whoever will hide behind their
walls, shall lose their life. And whosoever will lose his life
and become like Rahab, my friend, he shall save it. For what is a man profited if
he gain the whole world and lose his own soul? You do not believe. Let me ask you this. What are
you hanging on to that's of great value? What is so valuable that
you'd hang on to it to the destruction of your own souls? What did profit if you gain everything
and lose your own soul? It's utter madness. It's utter
madness. Flee your walls and sue God for
mercy. For there's mercy to be found
in Jesus Christ and Him alone. Friends, we have nothing of value
in this world who believe in Christ that this world can take
from us. You who believe in Christ, is
there anything this world could take from you that really matters? I'll tell you what, it's a dangerous
person to this world. We are a dangerous people when
we have nothing to lose. You'll be a dangerous person
to this world when you have nothing to lose. And we who have bowed
to Christ, we have nothing to lose and we have everything to
gain. Why? Because I believe in a sure
Savior who has made for me a sure covenant And He has by His blood
surely delivered my soul from death. Friends, it is clear that God will have
a sure judgment. It is a sure method by which
God has told me to declare this message to you this morning.
And I tell you that there is a sure deliverance for those
in Christ. Everyone else will face the wrath
of God alone. Where do you stand? Where will you be? When God does
come, praise God that I shall be found in Christ,
not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law. but I have
the very righteousness of God in Christ, and when He judged
me according to my works, my works are Christ's works. And
He shall say to me, Come, you blessed of my Father, and hereth
the kingdom prepared for you before the foundation of the
world." Is this your hope? Is this your confidence? Is this
all your joy this morning? I hope it is. If not, flee. Flee to Christ. He's the only hope and refuge
that will stand in that day. I pray God will bless this to
our hearts. Let's stand and we'll be dismissed in prayer.
