Go with me back to Hebrews 10. While I was studying Hebrews
10 for the message this morning, one verse stood out to me and
blessed me so much. I kept looking at this one verse.
I was going to deal with it this morning, but I thought, no, I
think we'll just make a message out of it by itself tonight. I want to ponder this for just
a minute, okay? I just want to ponder this one
amazing verse. Verse 37 says, For yet a little
while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry. How exciting is that? How exciting
is that? What he's saying is, hang in
there just a little bit longer. Hang in there. Just a little
bit longer. Keep your chin up. That's what
he's saying. Keep your chin up. Keep your
head up. Hang in there. Hang in there. Keep holding on. Be patient just
a little bit longer. It's just a little while longer,
that's all it is, just a little while longer. But it's so hard,
but it's so tough, but I know, just a little while longer. Just a little while longer. We
were all children once. We know, we remember going on
a trip, looking forward to the destination, all of us did. You know, it's the joke of children
in the car. You know, you want to get to
that destination. And we remember what it's like.
You feel like you've been on the trip forever. I mean forever. And you are painfully begging
and asking, are we there yet? Please tell me we're there. Just
a little bit longer, honey. Hang in there. Hang in there. Just a little bit longer. Verse
37 says, For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come. The one who promised he would
come. He promised he would come. He
promised he would come. And the one who promised he would
come will come. And he will not tarry. He will
not tarry. Now in studying the commentaries,
John Calvin said, and this is so true, this is just so true. John Calvin said, we are so hasty
with our wishes. We are so hasty with our wishes,
we always think God is tardy. We're so hurried in our wishes,
we always think God is late. And he quoted an old proverb
that said, even speed is delay to desire. It might be speedily
taking place, but when you want it bad enough, When you want
it bad enough, when it is all of your heart's desire, even
speed is too much delay. It's just taking too long. Please
come. Isn't that the final word in
this scripture? Come quickly. Please come quickly. Be patient, he said. Hang in
there. Verse 37, for yet a little while, and he that shall come
will come and will not tarry. All right, now let's ponder this
for a minute, okay? Number one, who is coming? All right, first question as
we ponder this. He's coming. He is coming. You know, the world doesn't know
who's coming. Right? Thank God we do. But we're going
to ask the question, who is coming? Who is it that's coming? Turn
with me to 1 Corinthians 4. 1 Corinthians 4 verse 5 says, therefore
judge nothing before the time until the Lord comes. The Lord is coming, who will
bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest
the counsels of the hearts, and then shall every man have praise
of God." Capital L, lowercase, O-R-D. The Lord Jesus Christ. He is the one who's coming. John the Baptist sent some disciples
to him one time, some men that were following John. And John
sent them to the Lord to ask, Art thou he that should come,
or do we look for another? And I absolutely love what happened. Our Lord told them, he said,
you go show John again the things which you do hear and see. Not the things that you've heard
have taken place in the past. You go show John the things that
you right now do hear and see. And he healed a blind man. And
he made a deaf man hear. And lepers were cleansed, and
the dead were raised, and boom, boom, boom. And those men went
back and they said, John, he's the one. He's the one. Yet a little while, and the Lord
Jesus Christ, he that shall come, will come." Does the flesh in
the back of your mind ever say, is he really coming back? Does
it ever say that? He that shall come will come
and will not tarry. Alright, now here's the second
thing I want to ponder. Why did he go in the first place? Why did he go in the first place? Why did he go in order to come
back? Right after he arose from the
grave, the same day, the same day that he arose from the grave,
his disciples were meeting together and they were so sad about all
these things and he appeared in their midst. He just appeared
in the room and he said to them, peace be unto you. Absolute peace
is unto you. He secured peace with God before
he ever left. Everything was done. It was finalized. God raised him from the dead
because God was satisfied with the payment he made. Isn't that
right? It was truly finished. It was over. So why didn't he
just stay here with us? Why did he go? Turn with me over
to John 14. John 14, verse one says, Let not your heart be troubled. You believe in God, believe also
in me. In my father's house are many
mansions. If it were not so, I would have
told you. I go to prepare a place for you. That's the reason I'm going.
I'm going to prepare a place for you. Let not your heart be
troubled. Don't be troubled about this.
You're going to watch me rise from the earth. Don't let your
heart be troubled about it. I'm going to make all things
ready. Yet a little while, He that shall
come will come, he went to make all things ready, and as soon
as he's ready, he will come and he will not tarry. All right,
now here's the third thing I want to ponder. What is he waiting
for? What is he waiting for? If he
went to prepare a place Even though the scripture says it's
a brand new heaven and a brand new earth. Isn't that what it
says? He said I make all things new. New heaven, new earth. He spoke this one into existence
in seven days. It has been 2,000 years with
respect and reverence Just out of curiosity, I wonder
what is he waiting for? Turn with me to James chapter
5. James 5 verse 7. Be patient, therefore, brethren,
unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth
for the precious fruit of the earth. and hath long patience
for it until he receive the early and latter rain." He is patient. He is patiently
waiting for every single child of God to come forth. He's not
coming back until every single child of God is born into this
world. And that precious fruit comes
forth. We just asked him, Lord, would
you send a revival in the midst of our years? I pray he does. I pray for the
latter rain. If it be thy will, Lord, would
you throw that seed and send your rain? Send your son and
send the rain of your spirit and bring your fruit forth? And
He's patiently waiting, and He said in verse 8 right here, Be
ye also patient, establish your hearts for the coming of the
Lord, draweth nigh. It's coming. It's coming, it's
right around the corner. Just a little while. He that
shall come will come. He will not tarry. Alright, let's
ponder this. How is He going to come? How
is He going to come? When He comes back, how should
we expect to see Him come? Go with me to Acts chapter 1. Acts chapter 1 verse 1 says,
The former treaty have I made, O Theophilus, friend of God,
of all that Jesus began both to do and teach until the day
in which He was taken up, after that He, through the Holy Ghost,
had given commandments unto the apostles whom He had chosen,
to whom He also showed Himself alive after his passion, by many
infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking
of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God. And being assembled
together with them, commanded them that they should not depart
from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which,
saith he, ye have heard of me." Now this is what he's saying
to them on the Mount of Olives, right before he departs. He's
telling them, You don't leave Jerusalem, you wait for the promise
of the Father, which you've heard of Me. Verse 5, For John truly
baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy
Ghost, not many days hence. When they therefore were come
together, they asked of Him, saying, Lord, wilt Thou at this
time restore again the kingdom to Israel? And He said unto them,
It's not for you to know the times or the seasons which the
Father hath put in His own power. But you shall receive power,
after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you. And you shall
be witnesses unto me, both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea,
and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he
was taken up, and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while
they looked steadfastly toward heaven as he went up, Behold,
two men stood by them in white apparel, which also said, ye
men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This same
Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come
in like manner as you have seen him go into heaven. He ascended
up into a cloud. 1 Thessalonians 4 says He is
going to descend back down from heaven in the same way we saw
Him go up. He is coming back down from a
cloud. He is coming down with a shout. Can you imagine what the shout
of heaven is going to sound like? Can you imagine? He is coming down with a shout.
He's coming down with the voice of the archangel and he's coming
down with the trump of God and it's going to happen. It is going
to happen. Hang in there. The apostle says,
hang in there. It's almost here. He that shall
come will come and he will not tarry. All right, now let's ponder
this. What is he going to do when he
comes? When this does actually happen,
when He does actually come back, at that moment, what is He going
to do? Look with me at Matthew 24. Matthew 24 verse 29. Immediately after the tribulation
of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall
not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the
powers of the heavens shall be shaken. And then shall appear
the sign of the Son of Man in heaven, And then shall all the
tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of Man
coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he shall send his angels
with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together
his elect from the four winds from one end of heaven to the
other. He said in John 14, I am coming
back to receive you to myself. That where I am, there you may
be also. That's what he's going to do.
The moment that Trump sounds and he appears and he descends
down, he's going to send his angels and gather all of his
elect from the four corners of the earth. He said, hang in there. in just a little while. He that
shall come will come and will not tarry. The Lord is the one
coming back. He went to prepare a place for
us. He went to make all things ready.
He is waiting for every single child of His to come forth. That
is the only reason the globe still turns. It's the only reason
you still need a job, and you still need to pay bills, and
you still have a house payment, and an electric payment, and
a water payment. What's the purpose? We're waiting
on that last believer to come forth. As soon as that last believer
comes forth, that's it. He's coming back. And when he
comes back, he's going to gather every single elect to himself. All right. Now, what exactly
is going to happen to us in that moment? When he comes back, what
will happen to us? Look with me at 1 Corinthians
15. 1 Corinthians 15 verse 51. Behold, I show you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we
shall all be changed. In a moment, in the twinkling
of an eye, at the last trump, for the trumpet shall sound. We've read three verses now that
say that trumpet is going to sound. The charge is going to
sound. For the trumpet shall sound,
and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be
changed. We're going to be changed. Into what? Well, beloved, it
doth not yet appear what we shall be, but we know. That when he shall appear, that
moment that he appears, we shall be just like him, for we shall
see him as he is. Don't even try to get your mind
around that. Just don't even try. In that moment, what's going
to happen to us? We're going to be changed in the twinkling
of an eye. As soon as our eye goes, boom. We're going to be absolutely
changed. And it just does not yet appear what we shall be.
It just couldn't be described what these vile bodies are going
to be changed into. But the only way that It can
be described to us simple mortals is we're going to be just like
Jesus Christ as He is. That is exactly what you will
be like for all eternity. Look at verse 22 right here in
1 Corinthians 15. For as in Adam all die, even
so in Christ shall all be made alive. But every man in his own
order Christ the firstfruits, afterward they that are Christ's
at his coming. Then cometh the end, when he
shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father, when
he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. We are going to be completely
changed into His image. 1 Thessalonians 4 said, we're
going to ascend up to meet Him in the air. Alright? He ascended up. Isn't that right?
From the Mount of Olives. As He is, that's exactly how
we're going to be. We're going to literally ascend
up to meet Him in the air. Verse 24 right here says, He's
going to deliver us He is going to present us to His Father,
and Revelation 21 says God is going to wipe away all tears
from our eyes, and there's going to be no more death, no more
sorrow, no more crying, and no more pain. So just hang in there. Hang in there. I know it's bad. Hang in there. Hang in there. He that shall come will come
and will not tarry. Now, here's our final thing to
ponder. What should we do in the meantime? What should we do in this meantime
till he comes? All right, till he comes while
we're waiting, what should we do? Turn with me one more time
back to Matthew 24. Matthew 24 verse 36. But of that day and hour knoweth
no man, no, not the angels of heaven. And I would imagine that's
why the shout of glory will be so great. The angels don't even
know. At that given moment, they're going to hear the sound that
they've been waiting on too. And they're going to be filled
with utter excitement. Because they have no idea when
this is going to happen. Okay? Verse 36, Of that day and hour
knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the
Son of Man be. For as in the days that were
before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving
in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark. and
knew not until the flood came and took them all away, so shall
also the coming of the Son of Man be. Then shall two be in
the field, the one shall be taken and the other left. Two women
shall be grinding at the mill, the one shall be taken and the
other left. Watch therefore." Watch therefore. Watch, watch,
watch. For you know not what hour your
Lord doth come. But know this, that if the good
man of the house had known in what watch the thief would come,
he would have watched and would not have suffered his house to
be broken up. Be ye also ready. Always be on standby. Always
watch and be ready. For in such an hour as you think
not, the Son of Man cometh. Now let me ask you this. I like
to ask a lot of questions. And sometimes I'll tell you to
answer it in your heart. Answer this one. Answer this
one. In your heart, do you think that
Christ is coming back tomorrow? Do you believe in your heart,
do you think, if you had to give an answer right now, a simple
answer, yes or no, do you think Christ is coming back tonight? Is your answer, no, I don't think
so. That's what it's going to be
like. It's going to be all of a sudden.
It's going to be on a day when you do not expect it. It's not
going to be like, well, it looks very cloudy and I think I see
a line in the clouds. I could see how those might roll
back today. It's not going to be that kind of day. It's not
going to be at a time of when certain terror attacks and things
like that and all this fear, and I wonder if the Lord's coming
back today, is going to be marrying, giving in marriage, people are
going to be happy, the world's going to be going great, and
all of the sudden, boom, the trumpet, the shout, the Lord,
He said, in the midst of all this, in the midst of all that
marrying, and all that giving in marriage, and all those good
times, and running all over this world, and living this life,
watch. Don't take your eyes off waiting
for Christ. Don't get caught up in all of
this mess. Keep watching. Keep watching.
Times are good. Surely He's not coming now. That's
the time to watch. You think He's coming tonight? No, I don't. Well, maybe we all
better start watching then. Because He just might come tonight.
He just might come tonight. Any minute now. It has been 2,000
years. It really has been 2,000 years.
Any minute now. In just a minute. Honestly, in
just a minute. He that shall come will come
and He will not tarry. This is how He ended His book.
We'll close with this. Turn with me to Revelation 22.
This is the last thing He had to say to us. Revelation 22, verse 20. He which testifieth these things
saith, Surely I come quickly. We respond with Amen. Even so, come Lord Jesus. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ
be with you all. Amen. May God's grace be with
every single one of you. Christ is about to come back.
He's literally about to come back. Any minute now, He's coming
back. May God's grace be with every single one of you. When
He comes back, may God shed His grace on thee. Two are going
to be standing in a field. One's going to be taken, one's
going to be left. Two are going to be grinding at the mill. One's
going to be taken, one's going to be left. May God shed His
grace on every single one of you. Amen. Alright, let's stand together.
