Turn with me, if you would, to
Psalm 139. Psalm 139. We're going to continue our study through the attributes of our
God. We've been looking at the attributes
of our God, who God is. And this morning, we're going
to look at God's knowledge. God's knowledge, what God knows. Look with me at Psalm 139 verse
six. David said such knowledge. is too wonderful
for me. It is high. I cannot attain unto
it. The knowledge of our God is something
that we cannot attain to. We just can't. We cannot grasp
it. It is too far above us. It's
just too wonderful for us to comprehend. That's what David
just said, and it's so. It's too wonderful. It's just
too wonderful. There's a word that we use to
describe it, and this word is not in the scripture. But this
word is well supported by the scripture. We say God is omniscient. God is omniscient and what that
means is He is all-knowing. All-knowing. And that produces
a lot of things in us. That produces a lot of emotions
in us whenever we come to realize that. God is all-knowing. He knows everything. I mean everything. He knows everything. He knows every place and He knows
every event from every age. Every person that was, every
person that is, every person that will be. Every event that
was, every event that is, every event that will be. He knows
every detail about the life of every creature, every day, every
hour of every day of every creature that's in heaven, every creature
that's in earth, and every creature that's in hell. Every single
one. Verse 7 says, Whither shall I
go from thy spirit, or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou
art there. If I make my bed in hell, in
the grave, in hell. Behold, thou art there. The grave
cannot hide from you. The grave hides things from us.
We cover six feet of dirt. What happens after that? What
happens after somebody dies and we bury them? I don't know. Through
this word I believe I do have a good idea of what happens.
But the grave and hell cannot hide from him, nothing. Verse 9 says, if I take the wings
of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even
there shall thy hand lead me and thy right hand shall hold
me. If I say, Surely the darkness
shall cover me, even the night shall be light about me. Yea,
the darkness hideth not from thee, but the night shineth as
the day. The darkness and the light are
both alike to thee. He knows it all. He knows everything. Nothing is hidden from Him. Nothing. Turn with me over to Hebrews
4 and I want to prepare you. We're going to do a little bit
of turning in this Bible study. Hebrews 4 verse 13 says, Neither is there any creature
that is not manifest in His sight, but all things are naked and
opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do." He knows
every detail about every creature on earth, every single one. He
knows every detail in the life of every single ant that has
ever crawled on this earth, every detail. You think about squirrels
and birds and animals deep in the forest of Wyoming or deep
in the forest of Russia. Animals that will never, ever
come in contact with a human being. Never. He knows every
detail about every single thing that's going to happen in their
life. He's the one who gave them life. He gives all life. It doesn't
matter what it is. He gives life. He's the one that
sustains them. Have you noticed how many acorns
have fallen this year? I can't believe how many acorns
are in my yard. Every squirrel is being well
fed right now. They're going to be throughout
this winter. No matter how cold it is, no matter how rough it
is, He provides for every single one of them. Every detail, He
knows it. This is what He said in Psalm
50, I know all the fowls of the mountains. I know all of them. That's amazing,
isn't it? That is amazing. That knowledge
is too wonderful for me. That's just too wonderful for
me. Go with me to Matthew 10. Matthew 10. Look with me at verse 30. But the very hairs of your head
are all numbered. Do you believe it or not? Yes or
no? Is he telling the truth or is
he lying? At every given moment in time,
He knows the exact number of hairs on every head in the world. The exact number. He always has. He always will. That kind of
knowledge is a bit too wonderful for me. And we think he doesn't know
what's going on in my life right now. He's forgotten about me.
That's just too wonderful. Nothing escapes his knowledge. His knowledge is perfect. Nothing is hidden from it. It
is perfect. He never overlooks anything. He never forgets anything. He is never wrong about anything. Nothing surprises him. Nothing
surprises him. Go with me to Psalm 147. Psalm 147 verse 5 says, great
is our Lord and of great power. His understanding is infinite. It's infinite. He knows every
detail about everything that has happened in the past. Every
detail about everything that's happening right now in the present.
Every detail about everything that is going to happen in the
future. God's knowledge of the future is just as complete as
His knowledge is of the past. Just as finished. Just as complete. History is
history. Right? The past is the past. What's
done is done. It's done. You can't add anything
to it. You can't take anything away
from it. What's done is done. That's it. So what we do now
is we turn back and look at the past and we study it. and we
study it and we learn everything we can about it. We try to find
out all the details about it and then we say hindsight is
20-20. Man, I wish I knew right now
or I wish I knew then what I know right now. That's what I wish.
I wish I knew then what I know now. Well, to God, foresight
is 20-20. I mean it is 2020. His knowledge
of the future is just as complete as his knowledge of the past,
from the smallest detail to the greatest detail. Nothing is too
big for his knowledge. Nothing is too small for his
knowledge. Now go with me back to Psalm
139, our text. Verse 1 says, Oh Lord, thou hast searched me. You've searched me and known
me. Thou knowest my down sitting. You know every time I sit down.
And mine up rising. You know every time I stand up.
Thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my
path everywhere I go, my walking. and my lying down? And art acquainted
with all my ways? For there is not a word in my
tongue, but lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether. Thou hast
beset me behind and before and laid thine hand upon me. Such
knowledge is too wonderful for me. It is high, I cannot attain
unto it." God's knowledge is amazing. It is absolutely amazing,
but once a sinner, which that word includes every soul ever
born, once a sinner starts to get a small grasp, just a tiny,
small grasp of how deep the knowledge of God really is, once a sinner's
heart starts to understand just how much it is that God knows
about me. David right here said, you've
searched me, you know everything. And then he said, you've searched
me. And once a sinner understands, he knows everything. I mean everything. The stuff
that I don't even want to remember. He knows everything. That amazing
knowledge turns into fearful knowledge. It's a fearful thing
to fall into the hands of the living God. I remember when it
first started to hit me. He sees me. That was scary to me. He sees
me. He knows. He knows. Let me show you something in
Ezekiel 11. Go with me over to Ezekiel chapter 11. Ezekiel 11,
look with me at verse 5. And the Spirit of the Lord fell
upon me and said unto me, Speak. Thus saith the Lord. Thus have
you said, O house of Israel. You tell them that I know everything
they've said. You tell them I know everything
they've said. He went on to say, For I know the things that come
into your mind, every one of them. Buddy, if that won't strike
fear, I don't know what will. I don't know what will. Are we
not shocked by the things that come into our minds? Are we not
shocked? What is wrong with me? He said, I know every single
thing that comes into your mind, every one of them. He said, you
may think that you're fooling me, but you're not. You may fool
everybody else, but you're not fooling me. I know every single
one of them. See if you can find Hosea 7.
If your Bible's like mine, it's page 1130 in the Old Testament. Hosea chapter 7. That's fearful, isn't it? Hosea 7 and look with me at verse 2. And they consider not in their
hearts. This is something we really ought
to consider. This is something we ought to
weigh. They consider not in their hearts that I remember all their
wickedness." There are some things that we would love to forget.
There are some things we have forgotten. And if it ever comes
back to our mind, it's like, oh, I forgot about that. All
right? We want them gone. He said, they
consider not in their hearts that I remember all their wickedness. Now their own doings have beset
them about. They are before my face. That is going to be the case
for every soul that leaves this world and goes to stand before
the holy God. They're going to find out, oh,
he knows so much more than even I knew about myself. And it is
going to be so fearful. It's going to be so, we don't
want to be there. We do not want to be there. Don't
turn. Psalm 90 verse 8 says, Thou hast
set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light
of thy countenance. The sins we don't even know about.
Things we do, we're not even considering. God told Abraham
he was going to have a son and as soon as he said that, Sarah
laughed in her heart. I always had it in my mind she
was in the tent and they heard it outside the tent. She laughed
in her heart. As soon as she laughed in her
heart, God said, why did Sarah laugh? He knows. He knows. He knows what's in
the heart of man. This is what he said in John
5. He said, I know that you have not the love of God in you. He knows. All right now, should
we just close the book? Let's go ahead and move on to
the next message. Thank God there's something else he knows. Oh man,
he knows something else. Turn with me to John 10. John 10 verse 14 says, I am the good shepherd and know
my sheep and am known of mine. Thank God, God chose some sheep. It's bad for everybody. You know,
sometimes we say, well, they're the black sheep of the family.
We're all black sheep. We're all born black sheep. There
are no white sheep. But God chose some of those black
sheep. He chose some of them to be His
own. He chose to do something for
them. And Christ, He gave them to Christ
and Christ said, I know them. I know them. I'm their shepherd,
they belong to me and I know them. Look right here in verse
27. He said, my sheep hear my voice and I know them and they
follow me. He said, I know them. I know what I've done for them. I know the agony I endured for
them. I remember the wormwood in the gall." And because of that, he goes
on to say, I know my thoughts towards them. They're thoughts
of peace. Why? Because they turned over
a new leaf? No, it's because of something
I did. And I know what that is, and that's in the front of my
memory. I'll never forget it. And I know what I've put in them.
I've done a work inside them. I put faith in there. I put love
in there. He said, Peter, do you love me? And Peter said, thou knowest.
You, you did it. You know, you know. Over, I was
going to have you turn, but over in Psalm 103 verse 14, it says
he knows our frame. He remembers that we are dust. Do you ever feel like such a
weak believer? Do you ever feel like a weak
believer or do you always feel strong in the faith? Do you ever
just feel so full of fear and so full of doubt? Do you ever
feel that way? Do you ever feel far from Him? Do you ever feel Far from him. Do you ever feel
like your prayers don't make it past the ceiling? Not because
of him, because of me. There's something wrong with
me right now. And he just, I'm just far from
him. He's not listening. Has he forgotten about me? That's
what David said. Are your mercies clean gone? That is not possible. That's
just not possible. It's impossible. He knows every
sigh. He knows every groaning. He knows every heartache. He knows every pain. At all times, he knows our frame. At all times. There's not one
tear that goes unseen. There's not one prayer that goes
unheard. Not one. Look with me over at
Matthew 6. Matthew 6 verse 6 says, But when
thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut
thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret, and thy Father
which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. But when ye pray,
use not vain repetitions as the heathen do, for they think that
they shall be heard for their much speaking. Be not ye therefore
like unto them for your father knoweth what things you have
need of before you ask him. Now is that not fantastic? Your father knows exactly what
you need before you ever even ask him for it. He knew that we needed mercy
before we knew we needed mercy, didn't he? That's why the Lamb was slain
from the foundation of the world. He knew that we needed forgiveness
before we ever knew we needed forgiveness. We go through this
life having no idea I need forgiveness from God. I thought I was fine. He knew we needed the blood of
the Lamb. before we knew we needed the blood of the lamb. And he
provided every bit of it. And we had possession of it before
we ever even knew we needed it. We had possession of it before
we ever even knew we needed it. And it's always going to be that
way. I'm going to close with this. Go with me to Isaiah 65. Isaiah 65 verse 17, this is going
to be eternity for those sheep that Christ redeemed. Isaiah 65 verse 17 says, For
behold, I create new heavens and a new earth, and the former
shall not be remembered nor come into mind. But be ye glad and
rejoice forever in that which I create For behold, I create
Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy. And I will rejoice
in Jerusalem, and joy in my people, and the voice of weeping shall
be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying. There shall
be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath
not filled his days. For the child shall die an hundred
years old, but the sinner being an hundred years old shall be
cursed. And they shall build houses and inhabit them, and
they shall plant vineyards and eat the fruit of them. And they
shall not build and another inhabit, they shall not plant and another
eat, for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and
mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands. They shall
not labor in vain, nor bring forth for trouble, for they are
the seed of the blessed of the Lord, and their offspring with
them. And it shall come to pass that
before they call, I will answer. And while they are yet speaking,
I will hear." He said, before they call, I'm going to answer. This is going to be their state
in New Jerusalem. It's going to be a joyful place.
It's going to be a happy place. And before they ever call, I'm
going to answer them. Now, why will he do that? It's
because He knows everything that His people are ever going to
ask Him for all eternity. That's kind of wonderful. He
knows everything that all of His chosen sheep redeemed from
sin by the blood of Christ are ever going to ask Him for all,
He already knows all the questions of eternity. Have you ever wanted to ask somebody
something but you've been a little too shy to go up and ask them
or too nervous to go up, especially if there's a crowd around, I'll
just wait, you know. There will be no shyness in glory
and there will be no nervousness in glory, none. But before the
question even finishes entering into this heart, He's going to
look at His people and give them the answer. We'll never be waiting
for an answer. We'll never wonder. We'll never have a moment of
doubt. Before it ever finishes arising,
He's going to give the answer. I love how it says the Queen
of Sheba went to Solomon, and that's a type of Christ. And
it says, He told her all her questions. He told her all her questions.
We are never going to cease being amazed by the knowledge of our
God throughout eternity. We're going to be in wonder throughout
all eternity. We're going to walk up to him
and he's going to tell us our question and then he's going
to tell us the answer. We're going to spend eternity
looking at each other saying, this kind of knowledge is too
wonderful for me. It is just too wonderful. May God continually reveal more
of it to us. All right, you're dismissed.
