In John Chapman’s sermon, "The Believer’s Song of Confidence," he expounds on Psalm 62, emphasizing the believer's need to trust in God as their ultimate rock and salvation amid trials and uncertainties. He highlights David's reliance on God over his military might or worldly status, drawing from the text's depiction of waiting in faith, which is a learned experience cultivated through trials. Key Scripture references include Psalm 62:1 (emphasizing waiting patiently on God) and Romans 8:28 (asserting that God works all things for good). The practical significance of this sermon lies in encouraging believers to develop a patient faith, recognizing that God's timing is timely and perfect, leading to peace, assurance, and reliance on God's promises.

What does the Bible say about waiting on God?

The Bible teaches that waiting on God brings salvation and is essential for experiencing true peace.

Waiting on God is a recurring theme in Scripture, emphasized in passages like Psalm 62, where David declares, 'Truly my soul waiteth upon God; from Him cometh my salvation.' This waiting is not passive; it requires active faith and hope in God's promises, trusting that His timing is perfect. We learn patience through trials, which prepares us to wait in faith and to rest in His assurance. As we learn to wait on God, we begin to experience true peace and hope, knowing that He will act according to His will and not our timing.

Psalm 62:1, Lamentations 3:22-23, Romans 8:28

What does the Bible say about waiting on the Lord?

The Bible teaches that waiting on the Lord brings peace and assurance, as seen in Psalm 62.

In Psalm 62, David emphasizes the importance of waiting on the Lord, declaring that his salvation comes from Him alone. Waiting is seen as an act of faith, where believers are called to patiently trust in God's timing and His goodness. This scripture highlights that true faith is not anxious but rests in the hope that God will fulfill His promises. Waiting on the Lord allows believers to develop spiritual maturity and experience peace, knowing that He is always working for their good, as affirmed in Romans 8:28.

Psalm 62, Romans 8:28

Why is patience important for Christians?

Patience is crucial for Christians as it reflects trust in God's perfect timing and leads to spiritual growth.

Patience is not just a virtue but a gift learned through the challenges of life. In Romans 5:3-5, we see that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. This process underscores the importance of waiting patiently on God. It teaches us reliance on Him rather than our own understanding or timing. In our impatience, we often miss the blessings and spiritual lessons that trials can teach. God’s timing is always perfect, and as we learn patience, we grow closer to Him, experiencing His peace and assurance in every situation.

Romans 5:3-5, Psalm 27:14, Psalm 62:5-6

How do we know God's promises are true?

God's promises are true because He is faithful and cannot lie.

The assurance of God's faithfulness is a recurring theme throughout scripture. As stated in Numbers 23:19, God is not a man that He should lie. This means that His promises are certain and reliable. In Psalm 62, David expresses his firm belief that God is his salvation and defense, reinforcing the idea that believers can confidently rely on Him. God has declared that He will take care of His people, and He will fulfill every promise made to them. This fidelity is central to the believer's hope and confidence in their salvation.

Numbers 23:19, Psalm 62

How do we know that God is our rock and salvation?

God is referred to as our rock and salvation through His faithfulness and the assurance found in Scripture.

God’s characterization as our rock and salvation is a foundational truth in Reformed theology. This concept is grounded in verses like Psalm 62:2, which states, 'He only is my rock and my salvation.' It reassures believers of His steadfastness and unchanging nature. When we trust in God as our rock, we acknowledge that He is the source of our strength and security, independent of our circumstances. Furthermore, Romans 8:28 affirms that He works all things for the good of those who love Him, highlighting the certainty of His protective nature. This understanding is vital for sustaining faith amid life's uncertainties.

Psalm 62:2, Romans 8:28

Why is it important for Christians to trust in God's timing?

Trusting in God's timing is vital because His timing is perfect and brings peace to believers.

In Psalm 62, the believer is encouraged to wait on the Lord, recognizing that impatience is a form of sin. God's timing is perfect; He is never early or late but always acts in accordance with His sovereign will. This highlights the importance of patience in the Christian life. When believers learn to trust and wait on God's timing, they experience a deep sense of peace and assurance that transcends their immediate circumstances. This trust combats anxiety and nurtures a reliance on God's plan, reinforcing that everything works together for their good, as seen in Romans 8:28.

Psalm 62, Romans 8:28

What does the Bible say about God's faithfulness?

The Bible reveals that God's faithfulness is an unwavering assurance of His mercy and promises.

God's faithfulness is one of His core attributes and is demonstrated throughout Scripture. Lamentations 3:22-23 declares, 'It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed; because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Thy faithfulness.' This verse reassures believers that God’s mercies and faithfulness are renewed each day, reflecting His loyal love toward His people. His faithfulness is not merely a concept but is experienced through the assurance of His promises. When we acknowledge His faithfulness, we can trust in His providence and care, knowing that His plans for us are good and purposeful.

Lamentations 3:22-23, Psalm 62:1-2

How does waiting on God lead to peace?

Waiting on God allows believers to experience peace by deepening their faith and trust in Him.

As described in Psalm 62, waiting on God involves a posture of faith that leads to tranquility. When believers truly wait on the Lord, they surrender their anxieties and instead place their expectations on Him. This waiting is not passivity but an active trust that cultivates hope and security. It teaches believers that God is their refuge, helping them to remain steadfast amid trials and tribulations. The fruit of waiting on God encompasses a profound peace that confirms He is always in control and will provide for every need according to His perfect will.

Psalm 62 I've been looking at this psalm off and on the past few weeks and I tell you the Psalms are a real blessing they're just a real blessing to read I'm going to title this and I'm going to change the title After Johnny read that, I thought that's the Believer's Song of Confidence. I believe that's a good title for this psalm because it says it's not a prayer so much as it is a song to the chief musician, to Jeduthun, the Psalm of David. This is a song that he wrote I don't know if anyone's ever put that to music or not, have they? You know of any? That would be nice to put to music, wouldn't it? Just to sing like this. And what a blessing it would be to have a leader that could really sing like this. I'm talking about a leader of this country. You have a leader here that can sing this. Wouldn't it be something? Because David's the king. David's the king. And yet he writes as a believer who looks to and trusts the Lord God Almighty. He's my rock. He's my confidence. David had thousands of troops. I mean, he had a huge army. He had a kingdom. And yet you don't hear him say anything about that. He knows. God taught him. God taught him running from Saul, hiding in the caves. God taught him, I'm your help. I'm your salvation. I'm your rock. I'm your defense. I'm your everything. God taught him that before he put him on the throne. God taught him that. And I tell you, only those can preach whom the Lord has taught this to. They're the only ones who can preach. They have learned that the Lord is their all in all. He's their help, He's their rock, He's their defense, He's their everything. Now if they really have learned that, now they're ready to preach. Because their message is going to be Him. It's going to be Him. Now He's talking here, He says, TRULY MY SOUL WAITETH upon God, from Him cometh my salvation. Waiting is not something we are naturally good at, is it? This is why fast food restaurants are so popular. We want it, we want it now. When I read this, I always think of that commercial, I want my money and I want it now. You remember this hanging out the window saying that? Remember that commercial? I want my money and I want it now. That's us. That's us. Through and through, that's us. We want it now. That's why, like I said, fast food restaurants are so popular. We want it now. You go on vacation. Are we there yet? Are we there yet? It's like a broken record. Are we there yet? How much longer? IMPATIENCE is not a human virtue or trait. It's not. IMPATIENCE is SIN. I thought about that this morning. I highlighted that. I wrote that down and highlighted it. IMPATIENCE is SIN. It's not waiting on God. If all things are of God, if everything has a time, like I wrote in the bulletin, everything has a time and a purpose, right? And then wait, then wait. Wait on the Lord, it's in His time. Henry wrote that to me two or three times. When I first heard the gospel, I started writing Henry a lot. I wrote him every week. And I went out to the mailbox like I was getting candy. And he was so faithful to write me back. And he would write this one scripture back, wait on the Lord. Wait on the Lord, I say, and He'll strengthen thine heart. Wait, I say, on the Lord. And he wrote that to me, he'd give me that scripture two or three times. Because he could tell I was impatient. I guess it was coming out in my letters. Patience is like Paul said, I have learned in whatsoever state I am therewith to be content. Patience is also learned. It's learned through trials. It's learned through those things that God puts us through. He teaches us to wait on him. Wait on Him. So often when we pray, we want it right now, don't we? We want it right now. We want healing right now. We pray for our children. We want the Lord to save our children right now. Well, if He's gonna save them, He'll save them in His time, in His time. And we have to learn to wait on God's time because God's time is perfect. He's never early and He's never late, ever. So we wait, we wait, we learn to wait on the Lord. And when we learn to wait on the Lord, here's what will happen. We will begin to enjoy real peace. When you really have a real spiritual ability to wait on the Lord, there's some peace in that. There's some real peace in that. And there's some real hope. My expectation, David said, is from the Lord. My expectation to come out of whatever trouble he was in. My expectation of my daily supply comes from Him. My expectation is that God will take care of me. The Lord will care for us. He will. My expectation this week and right now and next week is that the Lord will give me a message for you. I expect that from Him. If He called me to preach, if He called me to be your pastor and you're His children, He's going to feed His children. Would you feed your children? Of course you would. Well, God's going to feed His children too. And He's going to do it through me preaching the gospel with the Holy Spirit sent down from heaven to give power through His Word. And when we learn these things, it also gives us assurance. Now he says there in verse 1, as I read to you, TRULY, MY SOUL, or ONLY, and you'll notice here as we go through this how many times he says ONLY, ONLY, ONLY, and MY, MY, and MY. Those two words he keeps using over and over and over. But here's how we wait on Him. We wait on Him in faith. Being anxious is not faith. Mary and Martha, when they sent someone to the Lord, and that person told the Lord, he whom thou lovest is sick. And then he went back. You know that Mary and Martha were anxiously waiting for him to show up. You know they were looking out the window. Do you see him coming up the road? Do you see him yet? Do you see him? And they chided him when he finally showed up. And he waited, the Lord waited, that He might show them good. That He might do them good. You know, we wait on Him, but He also waits that He might show us good and teach us. And teach us. When we wait in faith, when we wait in true faith, we are not waiting with anxiety. We are not waiting wringing our hands. That's not faith. That's not faith. TRUE FAITH WAITS ON THE LORD. THE LORD SAID HE WOULD. CALL UPON ME IN THE DAY OF TROUBLE AND I WILL DELIVER THEE AND THOU SHALT GLORIFY ME. NOW WAIT ON HIM. YOU CALLED ON HIM, NOW WAIT ON HIM. YOU CALLED ON HIM, WAIT ON HIM. THEN WE WAIT ON HIM IN HOPE. HE NEVER FAILS TO KEEP HIS WORD. HE NEVER FAILS HIS CHILDREN. NOT AT ALL. AND WE WAIT ON HIM PATIENTLY. It says in Numbers 23 19, God is not a man that he should lie, neither the son of man that he should repent. Hath he said, and shall he not do it? Or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? If God said it, it'll happen. He will do it. That's why you and I need to learn the promises of God because He said it, He will do it. If He promised it, God will do it. And it's smart. Now it's spiritually intelligent to take the word of God to the throne of grace. Lord, you said. I couldn't tell you how many times I've gone to the throne of grace and Lord, you said he that comes to you, you wouldn't cast him out. You said that Lord, I come. I come to you for help, for mercy, for forgiveness. I come to you. And here's one of those verses that Henry sent me in Psalm 27, 14, Wait on the Lord, be of good courage, don't lose heart. That's one of the things that happens when you're impatient, you lose heart, you start to faint. It's just not going to happen. He said here, Wait on the Lord, be of good courage, He shall strengthen thine heart. Wait, I say, on the Lord. Wait on Him. And then we wait with surrendered silence. If I'm complaining, I'm not waiting. Not in faith, I'm not. Not in hope, I'm not. Not if I'm complaining. Here it is a waiting in surrendered silence. Not complaining. And then if we realize who we're waiting on, then we can wait. Truly my soul waiteth upon God. God, could we wait on a more faithful person than God? When I read that, I sent Craig a text last night and said, we've got to sing this song, GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS. I was reading this text and that struck me. GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS. Great. One of the greatest attributes of God is His FAITHFULNESS. Faithfulness. Lamentations 3, 22, 23. It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning. Great is Thy faithfulness. God is faithful to show mercy to us. He's faithful to feed us, just like this morning. WE WAIT ON THE LORD WHO WORKS ALL THINGS AFTER THE COUNCIL OF HIS OWN WILL. HE'S MAKING EVERYTHING RIGHT NOW. IT MAY NOT LOOK LIKE IT, BUT HE'S WORKING EVERYTHING RIGHT NOW FOR OUR GOOD. I MEAN ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING FOR OUR GOOD. From what's going on here, from what's going on in the community, from what's going on in the United States, from what's going on in the world. It all works together for our good. We can't see that. We don't have that kind of mind. He said, my ways not your ways, my thoughts not your thoughts. They're higher than what you can even begin to even comprehend. Oh, if there's anything I've learned as I've grown older is that I can't comprehend the immenseness of God. I can't comprehend Him. But I do know this, I know this because of His word in Romans 8.28, He's making all things work together for good. Are you crying? Is your heart broken? He's making it work for your good. Everything, whatever it is, He's making it work for your good. And here's our attitude in waiting. You can see it in verse 1, 2, and 5, and 6. TRULY MY SOUL, MY SOUL. That's me. I am a soul. I don't have one, I am one. I am a soul. I. He might as well say this. TRULY I WAIT UPON GOD. TRULY MY SOUL WAITS UPON GOD. HE ONLY IS MY ROCK. He's the rock I stand on. He's the rock I stand on, a solid rock. He's the solid rock. And I shall not be greatly moved. Now in a couple of verses here, he said, I shall not be moved. Now here he's speaking, he's speaking as someone that has experienced. We can get moved a little bit, can't we? I feel like that I slip and slide and fall all over that rock, but I'm not going to fall off that rock. Nobody's going to move me off that rock. God's not going to allow it. But now my doubts and my fears and my sins, I slip and slide and fall. But thank God that rock is so big I can't fall off from it. It's as big as God. God is my rock. He's my rock. And we wait upon Him. He says, Truly here, that means sincerely. This is not a show. It's not pretense. I know there's a lot of pretense out there, but not for you who believe. For you who believe, this is sincere. You're sincere. You say, God knows my heart. I am standing on the rock. I trust the Lord Jesus Christ who's my rock. I'm sincere about this. I'm sincere about salvation. I want to be saved. I'm sincere about knowing God. I want to know God. And I'm not talking about when this life is over with, I'm talking about now. I want to know God now. I want to have fellowship with God now. And then just walk right on into heaven and just continue that fellowship. And it'll be perfected. It's a sincere and we rest in Him and we do so quietly. And you notice here as I said, He says, only in my. He just keeps saying that. I've got them marked in my Bible here. I've got them circled only in my. It's just, what a song to sing. Now this is singing unto the Lord. To sing like this. And notice here he says in verse 1, from Him cometh my salvation. My salvation from the power of Satan. Satan had me. He had every one of us. He has everyone who does not believe the gospel. The scripture tells us are under the power of darkness. He saved me from my ignorance. I didn't know. I thought I knew who God was. I didn't know who God was. I didn't know God at all. If you don't know somebody, you don't know them. You may think you know them, but you don't. Just because somebody tells you about them, you don't know them until you meet them. You don't know God until God reveals Himself to you, until He makes Himself known to your heart. And that's more than just listening to me talk about Him, tell about Him. It's more than that, it's personal now. You notice how personal this is? This is personal. And then he says, from Him cometh my salvation, from Satan, from spiritual darkness, ignorance, judgment of my sins, eternal death. You know how many people a day, and this thought just, it's not something I can ponder on at all. It's how many people a day perish. UNDER GOD'S WRATH AND THERE'S NO MORE HOPE THERE'S NO HOPE THAT'S IT IT'S OVER THAT'S SOMETHING THAT'S HARD TO THINK ABOUT IN THIS LIFE THAT'S HARD THAT'S HARD BUT GOD HAS SAVED ME FROM THAT GOD HAS SAVED YOU FROM ETERNAL DEATH ETERNAL TORMENT And He did so by taking it Himself upon the cross. He took my death. Oh, that's astounding to me. That's astounding to me. If someone asks you to say, what from Genesis to Revelation in this book, in a brief statement, can you sum it up? I can. Salvation is of the Lord. That sums it all up. That sums up this whole book. Jonah said it. Salvation is of the Lord. That sums it all up. Our God willed our salvation. Our God executed our salvation at Calvary Street. Our God applies our salvation in the new birth, in regeneration. It's all of him, all of him. I didn't do anything to get saved. I didn't get saved anyway. I know this had been about a couple years ago, a lady was talking to me about her brother. She said, my brother got saved last night. And I know where they go. She said, I don't know why it took him so long. One of my first thoughts was, Lord, thank you for saving me from that. That was one of my first thoughts because I was right there at one time. I was right there. I have been saved. I'm being saved and I shall be saved. Our Lord is our rock. And here, listen, in verses two and six he said I shall not be greatly moved and I shall not be moved we can be shaken but not moved off that rock you know Christ our soul is anchored in Christ our soul is anchored in Christ and no matter how hard the wind blows no matter how how terrible the storm is It's not gonna take us away. You know why? Here's why, we have God's Word. I love it when I can give God's Word to you. Your life is hid with Christ in God. It can't be taken. When Satan wanted to touch Job, and God said, you can touch him, you can touch everything he has, but there's one thing you cannot touch, his life. You can't take his life because his life is hid with Christ in God. You would have to kill God in order to take Job's life. You'd have to kill God in order to take our life because he is our life. Now that can't be done. That's how secure our life is. When you realize that, dying takes on a whole different dimension. Dimension, it does. It takes on a whole different dimension. It's when you realize your life is God. God's given you spiritual life. You have the life of God in you. You can't lose that. You cannot lose that. We're going to have opposition, look in verses 3 and 4. How long will you imagine mischief against a man? You can put this also in there. How long will you imagine mischief against Christ, the man? You know that you can't see, I know the world can't see it, the believer sees it, but you know that the whole battle that's raging all over the world, the whole battle is still against Christ? It is Satan's war on Christ and on his body, the church. It's a warfare that's going on all over this world. Satan is ahead of that warfare. He hates Jesus Christ and he hates me and you. And it's a constant battle with him. He goes about seeking whom he may devour. He's not seeking the drunk to devour. That's not who he's seeking. HE'S NOT SEEKING TO DEVOUR THOSE HE ALREADY HAS! IT'S THE LORD'S PEOPLE HE'S SEEKING TO DEVOUR! YOU! YOU! YOU SHALL BE SLAYING ALL OF YOU! THAT'S CONFIDENCE! ALL OF YOU ARE GOING TO BE SLAYING HE SAYS! GOD IS GOING TO KILL EVERY LAST ENEMY! destroyed just like the pharaoh and his army drowned in that sea every one of them was drowned none of them swam to shore none of them swam back and was like well we made it i thought i was gonna drown no everyone's gonna drown they're all the enemies of god's gonna drown you know in that flood when those in the ark were saved noah and his family were saved but every person outside of that ark drowned not one of them Got on a log and hung on and waited a year or something until the flood went down. You know, the water, I think, was like 20 feet above the highest mountain. And it was like a year, wasn't it? Like a year. We going to float around for a year? Yeah, I don't think so. God made sure God made sure that everybody died that was outside that ark in that flood not a one survived only those in the ark and when he said he's going to destroy you you're going to be slain like a bowing wall and as a tottering fence you're finally one day going to fall over Now they only consult to cast Him down from His Excellency, that's what it's all about, is to cast Jesus Christ down from His Excellency, God-man, God-man. And here's their weapon, here's their weapon of choice. They delight in lies, they bless with their mouth, But they curse inwardly. Here it is. Here's their weapon. It's lies, flattery, or speaking peace where there is no peace. That's what it is. That's their weapon. They promote free will, human effort. What's wrong with that? What's wrong with that? Well, it's so full of sin, that's what's wrong with it. That's what's wrong with them. They bless with their mouth and they destroy with their errors what they do. And then David here, I want you to listen to this and we need to learn to do this. He speaks to himself. Not everybody's crazy that speaks to themselves. Get off and speak to yourself. Well, he could just say it this way, David, and I do this sometimes. I don't do it when anybody's around, but I do this sometimes. I say, John, what are you thinking like that for? I do, I do. I say, John, what are you thinking? Think upon the Lord. Talk to yourself in scriptures, in spiritual language, MY SOUL, WAIT THOU ONLY UPON GOD, DON'T RUN AHEAD OF HIM. WAIT ON HIM. YOU WON'T REGRET IT. YOU RUN AHEAD OF HIM, YOU'LL REGRET IT. OH, HE'LL MAKE YOU REGRET IT. FOR MY EXPECTATION IS FROM HIM. EVERYTHING I REALLY HAVE AN EXPECTATION OF IS FROM GOD. IT'S FROM GOD. HE ONLY, HE ONLY AND NOTHING ELSE AND NO ONE ELSE, BUT HE ONLY IS MY ROCK AND MY SALVATION. HE'S MY DEFENSE, HE DOESN'T JUST DEFEND ME, HE IS MY DEFENSE, GOD HIMSELF IS MY DEFENSE. HIS POWER, HIS WORD, HIS GRACE, EVERYTHING THAT GOD IS IS SET FOR MY DEFENSE. I SHALL NOT BE MOVED. NOW HERE HE SAYS I SHALL NOT BE MOVED. BEFORE HE SAID GREATLY MOVED, HE KNEW HIMSELF AS A SINNER. YOU AND I KNOW, WE KNOW OURSELVES. IF GOD HAS SAVED US, WE KNOW OURSELVES. IF GOD HASN'T SAVED YOU, YOU DON'T KNOW YOURSELF AT ALL. YOU THINK YOU DO, BUT YOU DON'T. BUT I SHALL NOT BE MOVED. I SHALL NOT BE LOST. I SHALL NOT BE DESTROYED. I shall not apostatize I'll not be moved in God in God he said God's my salvation in God is my salvation in him I'm in him I in them and thou in me this is hard to comprehend but it's so you know we believe a lot of things we can't comprehend God is in you The Holy Spirit's in you, isn't He? He's God. He's God. He's Jehovah God. He's Jehovah the Holy Spirit. He's in you. Think about that one today. Get off to yourself and think about that today. The Lord's in me. He's in me. He surrounds me. He's like air. He surrounds me and He's in me. The air is in me and the air surrounds me. Amazing in God is my salvation and my glory the rock of my strength. I don't have any strength I don't have any strength, but him You know the Lord gave me the strength and you the strength to be here this morning Some are not able to be here But he's given us the strength to be here this morning He's my strength And He's my refuge. You know, and I've said this, I know I've said it here. He's my refuge. The best place to hide from God is in God. He's my refuge from Himself. He's my refuge. Trust in Him at all times. Good times, hard times. Times of plenty and times of poverty. Trust in Him. Trust in Him. If you're poor, you must need it. I've learned to say that. Well, I must have needed it. If He takes something from me, I must have needed it. If He gives something to me, I must have needed it. Peter calls all trials, if need be, doesn't he? If need be, you go through a fiery trial, if need be, God'll put you through it. And then He'll take it away when it's time to do it. When it's time to do it. Trust in Him at all times, ye people, Jew and Gentile, pour out your heart before Him. Be honest with God. You know, I'm not going to pour out my heart before you. You don't want all my heart poured out before you. And you're not going to pour it all out before me. FOR THE MOST PART, WE WOULDN'T UNDERSTAND EVERYTHING, BUT YOU KNOW WE CAN POUR OUR HEART OUT BEFORE GOD BECAUSE HE ALREADY KNOWS IT. HE ALREADY KNOWS IT. HE KNOWS IT. WHAT HE'S SAYING HERE, POUR OUT YOUR HEART, BE HONEST WITH HIM. JUST BE HONEST. AND POUR OUT YOUR HEART BEFORE HIM BECAUSE HE CARES FOR YOU. HE CARES, HE SAYS, FOR YOU. God is a refuge, a hiding place for us. Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie, to be laid in the balance. They are altogether lighter than vanity. You know, vanity is nothing, isn't it? He says here they're lighter than nothing. But he puts the poor, the low degree, the man born just in a poor family situation, whatever, and the one born in nobility, he said, neither one of them are any good. They're both together lighter than vanity. You can put the whole human race together and can't come up with one good man. You know that? That's what God said. God said, there's not a just man on the earth that does good and sins not. So you could take all humanity, all of it, put it together, and you still can't come up with a good man. Just like I did when I was a boy. I made myself a bicycle. I mean, I took bicycle parts from this one and that one. I had a big handlebars and tires didn't even match. It was weird, but it rode. But I'm gonna tell you something, it was a bicycle. You couldn't call it a good one. You couldn't call it a good bicycle, but it was a bicycle. You can put all of humanity together and you still can't come up with a good one. Jesus Christ is our goodness. He's our righteousness. He's all of it. All of it. Now trust not in oppression. And become not vain in robbery. If riches increase, set not your heart upon them. God gave it to you. He said, I make rich and I make poor. You know, riches do have a, when a person starts becoming rich, there's an element there that they think, well, I'm intelligent. Look at what I've done. What Nebuchadnezzar did. He walked out on that balcony and he said, look what I have done. And God said, you fool, get out the pasture. Get out there in the pasture for the next seven years. And you're going to learn and you're going to find out who rules heaven and earth, who makes rich and who makes poor. God can make a rich man poor that fast. He can do it. He can do it. Riches have wings, Solomon said, and they fly away. I was in business with a man one time, he was a multi-multi-millionaire, and he told me, he said, you know, it's not so hard to make money. He said, it's hard keeping it. He said, you have to really learn how to keep the money because there's always stuff, everything out there trying to get it, everything. He said, so you have to learn how to keep it as well as make it. But you know, don't trust in oppression, in other words, THERE IS NO VIRTUE IN POVERTY AND THERE IS NO VIRTUE IN WEALTH. POVERTY DOESN'T PROVE THAT I HAVE GOD'S FAVOR. RICHES DOES NOT PROVE THAT I HAVE GOD'S FAVOR. HERE'S WHAT PROVES I HAVE GOD'S FAVOR THAT I BELIEVE GOD. THAT'S PROOF. IT'S NOT WHAT I HAVE OR DON'T HAVE. IT'S NOT ANY MATERIAL THINGS. IT'S THAT I BELIEVE GOD. Faith is the gift of God. God has spoken once, twice have I heard this, that power belongeth unto God, the power to save and the power to damn, the power to raise up and the power to bring down. All power belongs to God. All other power is loaned from Him. It just is. But now listen, it doesn't stop there. He has the power to judge and damn. Also unto thee, O LORD, belongeth mercy. The power of mercy. God can show mercy to everyone in this room. If He will, He can save every person in here, if it be His will. He has the power and the mercy to do so. if he was not merciful and he was all power he'd be a tyrant but God is a complete God is complete God is love God is power he is just he's holy and he's merciful and he's gracious he is complete in everything and we can trust him we can trust him ALSO UNTO THEE, O LORD, BELONGETH MERCY, FOR THOU RENDEREST TO EVERY MAN ACCORDING TO HIS WORK. Here's the conclusion to the whole matter of this whole song. This is a song. We need to learn to sing like this. Here's the conclusion to the whole matter, wait patiently on God, He's worth waiting on and that's an understatement. Rest in the Lord Jesus Christ alone, just rest, just quiet down and rest, it'll be all right. And trust in Him at all times when the tide is raising or when the tide's going down. Trust in Him at all times. And pour out your hearts before Him, whatever's on your heart. Some of you got aching hearts. Pour it out. Like, I don't have a glass here. If I had a glass with water here, and I just went like this, and you'd watch all that water just pour out. That's the way you pour your heart out before God. Learn to do that. I need to learn to do that. We need to learn to come to God as our Father and just pour it out. Let's not try to sound, don't try to sound like a theologian before God. He knows you're not one. He knows I'm not one. Everybody knows you're a sinner. You're a sinner in need of mercy. You're a sinner whom I've saved by my grace. Now, pour out your heart to me. Just pour it out. Empty it. Don't leave anything left in it. Just empty it out. Because it'll be filled up again and you'll need to pour it out again tomorrow. You'll need to pour it out again tomorrow. So go ahead and empty it out today. Empty it out. And never trust in man. Don't trust the multitude. If the multitude is going this way, you go that way. Don't trust in riches. Don't trust in riches. DON'T TRUST IN YOUR WORKS, TRUST IN HIS AND REJOICE THAT THE LORD JESUS CHRIST IS YOUR ROCK AND YOUR SALVATION ALONE. HE ONLY IS MY ROCK AND MY SALVATION, HE IS MY DEFENSE, I SHALL NOT BE MOVED. THAT'S THE CONCLUSION TO THE WHOLE MATTER.
