Hebrews 10. This is a wonderful, wonderful chapter
and the ones following are as well. I'm going to urge you right
now and everyone a little later to be here Wednesday
night for the remainder of this chapter. We're going to look
at verses 23 through 39, Wednesday night, Lord willing. So much
more you see the day approaching. The day approaching. So it's
an urgency about this message. This morning, let's read, look
at verse 14. He says, By one offering he,
Christ, hath perfected. Not shall, but hath perfected
forever them that are sanctified. The word sanctified means set
apart, made holy by God, set apart, justified, sanctified,
made holy or righteous by one author, Christ. Hath. Not shall, but hath perfected. And verse 15 says, the Holy Ghost
is a witness to us of that. He's a witness. He tells his
people that. He tells them that twice. This
right here. This is the best news there is
right here. Verses 16 through 18. He says it twice so that
we'll hear it. Wherefore, the Holy Ghost is
witness to us after he said before, this is the covenant I will make
with them. Remember, his people. God's people. After those days I will put my
laws, my word, into their heart and their minds will I write
them and their sins, past, present, future,
their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. But if you're a sinner and You
really heard that. That's the best news you could
hear. Now, where remission of these is, there's no more offering
for sin, he said. No more offering. Don't need
a sin offering. That's what this... He's going into great detail
and keeps repeating over and over again. We don't need another
offering. There is no more offering. Don't
need more. Christ made that one offering, John, forever. And
people that bring whatever, They're dead works. Don't need that. Don't need to bring anything.
And that's what we're going to see here in a minute. Come boldly.
Don't need to bring anything. Just bring yourself. Who was
it? Hispanic? Who was it that wrote
Just As I Am? I forget. Charlotte Elliott. Whoever was talking to her, a
preacher, somebody said, don't bring anything. She was talking
about how sinful she was. The preacher said, you just come.
She said, just as I am? He said, if, just as you are. Because this is the offering
Christ hath done for us, for his people. And he says there's no more offering
for sin. Verse 19. So having therefore, brethren,
If you're in Christ, a believer, we have boldness. Having, therefore,
boldness to enter in to the holiest, that is, presence of God by the
blood of Jesus. Therefore, boldness. Boldness
doesn't mean arrogance. It means confidence, having assurance. You've got divine permission. More than that, a command. He
says, come. The Son of God says, come. That's
permission. I've told you before that my
daughter, when she was young, I used to study over here all
the time. I'd shut the door. And that means
don't come in or knock first. Well, Hannah, when she was a
little girl, just didn't pay attention to that at all. She
just come boldly. Open the door. Dad? You know,
I never did get mad at her. She's my child. Come on. Come
on in. And that's a pretty good illustration.
Now it's Isabella. But you know, the door is open.
The veil, we're going to look at that. The veil, the way is
open. Not even shut for his people. Into the holiest, into heaven,
into God's presence himself. Christ said that. He said, you
can call him your father. He's my father. He said, I go
to my father and your father, and you come. You believe, trust
me, you come. Call him Father, Abba. The Spirit
tells his people that. You can call him Abba, Father,
and you come, but don't Come without blood. Always come by
faith in the blood. That's what it says there, by
the blood of Jesus Christ. Verse 20, by a new and living
way, not an old and dead law. That is, an old tent or an old building that's
not there anymore. Temple. but by new and living
way." That's Christ. He said, I am the way. Behold, I live, he said, the
living way. That's Christ. Which Christ hath
consecrated for us through the veil. That is to say, his flesh. So there is this veil. You remember the story. We've
been looking at this, the old tabernacle or temple, and the
high priest, and the furniture and all that. I remember we talked
about the veil. We had the common, and the temple
was about the size of this building. And it was a room 15 by 15 by
15, 15 by 15, which was the holiest of all where the Ark of the Covenant
was. But what separated, and that's
the only place that the high priest could go, to offer up
that blood on the mercy seat. That represented heaven. And
then you had the outer court, like where you sit. And in between it was a veil,
I think, I forget, I think that temple was 45 feet high, wasn't
it? 45 feet high. It's high. And
this veil that God had them make was made of several different
cloths woven together. And it was huge. And it was without
seam. It was without seam. And it was thick and heavy and
weighty. And it separated where the common
priests were from the holy place, where only the high priests could
go. Scripture says God's people are
made kings and priests. Pretty common though. Common. Small p. Priest. Ministering
about the things of God on the outer core. One, the high grade
high priest Jesus Christ went into heaven itself with his own
precious blood to offer that sacrifice. And he did that on
Calvary's tree. When Christ was crucified in
Calvary that day. You remember what happened? It
said, when he was crucified, it said, it's finished. When
he said it with a loud voice, it is finished. What? The redemption
of his people, the putting away of sin, purging our sin by himself,
by his own precious blood. The iniquity, the handwriting
of ordinances blotted out, the old taken away and the new established. Covenant ratified. Witnessed
with his own blood. Signed in his own blood. Okay? Then it says, the veil of the
temple. There was still a temple then.
The veil of the temple was ripped in two. From top to bottom. From somebody with a hand of
God. Man, you couldn't pull that apart. God went, ripped it, showing
us, come one, come all, by the blood of Jesus Christ. Come boldly. Come on in. I like to think about
if there were any priests in that temple at that time, probably
not. They were all out mocking our
Lord. But had there been any in that
common area and they saw that happen, and there was the ark,
they thought, what is happening? What is happening? Well, we know,
don't we? That's showing us that Christ
has opened the way, and that way is Himself, by the blood
of the Lord Jesus Christ. And that veil of His flesh was
rent for us, that we might come unto God. Verse 21. So we have
a high priest. And we're having, we right now
have a high priest over the house of God. High Priest. Now, I don't know the Pope. I
don't know the Pope, and I don't care to. I don't need to. I don't need to know the Pope.
But we have a great potentate, Scripture says. A great High
Priest that I believe I know, more importantly, he knows me.
over the house of God, that's the church. Verse 22, so let
us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having
our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies
washed with pure water. Draw near. Remember the publican
stood afar off, didn't he? That's how we feel. That's how
we feel. We feel like we deserve to stay,
be cast out. But now, we've been brought near. You know what Ephesians says,
we've been brought near. Chapter 2, by the blood of Christ. You who are far off have been
brought near. He's our peace. And he tells
us to come near. Remember when Isaac told Jacob,
remember that story of how Jacob, his mother, Jacob wanted to bless
him, and the blessing was only for the oldest son. So she disguised
him as his older brother, Esau, and the father, Isaac. He had to come into the presence
of the father. He had to smell like his brother.
He had to feel like his brother. He had to have that savory meat
that only his brother provided, his father, and all that was
provided for him. All that was provided for Jacob.
And the father said, come here. And he was trembling, fear of
the Lord, you know, we come not with arrogance or pride, but
with fear and trembling, but with confidence. And he said,
do you have that savory meat I love? Jacob, with a trembling
voice, said, yes, I do. He said, come here and kiss me. Oh, no. And he felt him. And he smelled him, and he kissed
him, and he ate his meat. And John says he brought him
wine, too. I've never seen that before. He brought his father
wine. Red wine. His father said, that's my boy. And he blessed him. There's no
clearer picture of coming by Christ in the Biblism. Draw near
with full assurance of faith. Alright? Two things that I'm
certain of. Beyond a shadow of a doubt. Full
assurance of faith. Two things I don't just believe,
two things I know. Number one, I'm a sinner through
and through. In my flesh felt no good thing.
That what I deserve, what my sins
deserve, is wrath and judgment and to be cast out. I am a sinner. I know that beyond a shadow of
a doubt. And number two, Christ died for
sinners. Now, what else do you need to
know? What else do you need to know?
That's full assurance of faith. All my hope is in Jesus Christ. All of it. If I get to heaven, it's going to be by Jesus Christ. Is that enough? That's the faith.
That is the faith. In a nutshell, it's believing,
trusting Jesus Christ. It's in Him. It's in Him. And
if you keep looking to Him, you'll have full assurance of faith. Look to yourself, you'll be fully
assured that you're no good. Okay? If you look to Him, in
our text today, in John 5, He said, He that heareth my word,
and believeth on him that sent me hath everlasting life, and
shall not come into condemnation." I've got to go on or I'll start
preaching that, but that's one. Faith. Faith is looking to Jesus
Christ, depending on Jesus Christ. Period. Period. Exclamation point. Let us, so
he says, let us. Who's us? Well, you sinner, you
see, you need to cry. Let's draw near with a true heart.
True heart, that means that, you know what that means, not
hypocritical, a needy, a true heart. Draw near. Having, now this is interesting,
having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies
washed with pure water. You know, I've got so many notes
here, what am I going to do? It talked about, back in chapter
9, it talked about you purge your conscience from dead works.
Well here it says, and your hearts sprinkle from an evil conscience. Does my conscience ever bother
me? Oh my. If it doesn't, then you've
got a bad conscience. Right? It's supposed to. That's what conscience is. The
law written on the part which convicts you of sin. And the
Holy Spirit uses that through the Word to show you you're a
sinner. Convince of sin. Righteousness. Judgment. And a schoolmaster
Right? If your conscience quits bothering
you, that's bad. It means you're a reprobate.
Constantly bothers me. Now, time to start worrying is
if you're not bothered. You know, that's time to start worrying
when you don't need this gospel anymore. The Lord never said
we'd be free from feeling guilty. He said we'd be not guilty. He didn't say you'd be free from
feeling that way, because you've got sin in you. The Lord didn't
say you'd be free from feeling condemned. He just said, there's
therefore now no condemnation. You're not condemned. You're
not condemned. You would have unbroken peace and rest. You'd be free from unrest. No,
no. He just said, you believe me, you have peace and rest. And this evil conscience
is a conscience that's under conviction and that dead works
also. And we need it constantly sprinkled
by the blood. That's why we come here. to keep
coming back, to have our consciences sprinkled. Hopefully the man
will get up and talk about the blood, preach the blood. It's
the only thing that can. And there are two things here
he says that heart sprinkled from an evil conscience and the
body washed with pure water. Right there you have justification
and sanctification. Don't you? That's all one way. It's all by Jesus Christ. He
is made unto us. wisdom, righteousness, sanctification,
and redemption, justification, righteousness. Both by the blood
of Jesus Christ eternally, for by what offer He hath perfected
forever them that are sanctified, and temporally, spiritually and
physically. Listen, let me give you an illustration.
The priests were washed. The priest, when the Lord made
the priesthood and the temple and all that, He said, bring
Aaron. And He consecrated Aaron, remember? Put on him the high
priest garment. And He brought his sons, Aaron's
sons. That's all believers in Christ. His sons. And it says they were
washed. Right there. Washed all over. They were to be washed all over.
Completely. And then those garments were
put on them, the priest's garments, okay? And they were declared
priests under the Most High God. They're washed. Alright. He never
told them to do that again, to wash all over. No. Because they'd been washed. They're
clean. But then He did say, John, they washed your hands and the
feet. Every time they come. Now, what
does that remind you of? John 13, where our Lord washed
his feet. Remember? He said, now you're
clean. You're clean. He said to his
disciples, you're clean through the word that I said unto you.
Through me. You're clean. Peter said, wash
me all over. He said, you're clean. He that's
been washed doesn't need to be washed, except his feet. Except
his feet. So God's people are completely
sanctified in Christ, justified in Christ, sanctified. But we
keep coming back to hear the Gospel, which is the water of
His Word, Ephesians 5.26. We keep coming back to hear about
the blood and then have this water of His Word cleanse us
over and over again. We come in feeling dirty. He
said, you're clean now. Well, we feel dirty. Well, wash
your hands and your feet. Wash. It's over to come. Have
the conscience sprinkled by the blood of the Gospel and watered
of His Word to wash us, even our bodies. You know that nothing
will cleanse our actions and our life like seeing Christ crucified. That brings conviction of sin. The holiness of life, yes it
does. Nothing will do it but that. You can't resolve to do
better. Nothing but that, to see Him.
That goodness of God will bring us to repentance. So we come,
we come. And we have this high priest
who entered into the holy place for us. Alright, look at verse
22. He says, Let us draw near with a true heart and full assurance
of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and
our bodies washed with pure water. I want you to turn to Psalm 19
and close it. Psalm 19. Talking about this
washing of the body with the Word of God. And I've tried to
point that out, that nothing will bring our actions in line
than the Word of God. Look at Psalm 19, verse 7. This is talking about the Word
of God. The Word of God. Verse 7. The law or the Word
of God, the doctrine of the Lord, is perfect. It perfects His people. It's perfect converting, restoring. It's just constantly restoring
up. The old man, strictly said, is
perishing, but the new man is renewed day by day. How? By the Word of God. Read on. Converting the soul. There's salvation in His conversion,
people. They're different. Salvation
is like that washing of Christ, that regeneration. There's conversion.
We get in bad ways and we need converters. Like Peter said,
when you're converted, you mean he wasn't saved? Well, he ain't
saved. He just got bad. There's one thing going to convert
him. Convert. Bring out. Turn your mind around. Word of God. Converting the soul.
Testimony of the Lord. Verse 7. Assure, making wise
the simple. We need to grow in wisdom. We need to grow in grace and
the knowledge of Christ. How? One way. Read on. The statutes of the Lord are
right, rejoicing the heart. We get down, we get sad, we get
grieving. What's going to give us joy and
rejoicing? The Word. The commandment of
the Lord. The commandment of the Lord is
pure, enlightening the eyes. We get in darkness, even as others.
No. We start looking around us. Everything
looks dark and gloomy. But in His light, we see life.
The entrance of Thy Word bringeth light. It's like our blindness
is healed all the time. Are you blind? Read on. Verse
9. The fear of the Lord is clean. Our dear sister Barbara says
this to me all the time. She said, I come in here and
I feel like, after I leave here I feel clean. Could, and she
said, you've heard something. The word of the Lord. Bodies
washed with pure water. Okay.
