Hebrews chapter 8. Come on in, Nana. We just briefly
looked at verses 10 through 13, and I don't want to just skip
over these glorious verses. Hebrews 8, 10. says, this is the covenant that
I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith
the Lord. I will put my laws into their
mind and write them in their hearts and I will be to them
a God and they shall be to me a people. And they shall not
teach every man his neighbor and every man his brother, saying,
Know the Lord, for all shall know me from the least to the
greatest. For I will be merciful to their
unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember
no more." Let's stop there. Look at Psalm, the third Psalm,
Psalm 3. If you noticed in the bulletin,
you looked at the title of this study, Particular Redemption. Particular Redemption. And I
was struck by this reading. We were going to deal with chapter
9, but we'll deal with that next week. It says in verse 8 of Psalm 3,
And Brother Mahan quoted part of this this morning on the radio.
Psalm 3, verse 8, salvation belongeth unto the Lord. That means it's
His to give or withhold. It's His. Something belongs to
you. It's yours. It's not someone
else's. They can't demand it. They can't
take it. It's yours to give or yours to
withhold. Right? Salvation. Belongeth unto
the Lord. Now read on. Thy blessing, speaking
of the blessing of salvation, God's love, God's mercy, God's
grace, God's Son, thy blessing is upon thy people. Now, back here in Hebrews 8,
it says, this is the covenant I will make with the house of
Israel. And it goes on to say, they shall be to me a people. They are my people. Now, everything
in the Old Testament primarily concerns Israel, doesn't it?
Israel. The Lord Jesus Christ Himself
said to the woman at the well, salvation is of the Jews. God chose them. Israel. They were God's chosen people. His elect. That's what God said
throughout the Scripture. They were no better than others.
They were no better than the Egyptians, but they were chosen.
God chose them in mercy and grace. None good. No Jews good. None righteous. No. Not one. Not one. Paul wrote that in Romans,
didn't he? Chapter 1, talking about the
Gentiles. Chapter 2, talking about the
religious Jews. Chapter 3, he said, are we better
than... Oh no. They're all under sin. None good. No, not one. But God. Rich in mercy for His great love
were with He loved the people. They didn't deserve it, but He
set His love on these people. Didn't He say that all through
the Old Testament? I'm not choosing you because
you're more than other people or better or whatever. He said,
I'm doing it for my name's sake. I make my name be known. Vessels of mercy for my glory. And everything concerning the
atonement, we've been looking at the high priest, the atonement,
the blood sacrifice, everything concerning the atonement, the
blood sacrifice for sin, to put away sin, that God would pardon
sin, was for Israel. Right? When the high priest went
in, He went into the Holy of Holies. He had names. He had
twelve tribes of Israel on a breastplate. God said, you write, this is
who you're going to make the atonement for. Twelve tribes
of Israel. They were on his breastplate
and also on his shoulders. And we're going to look at that
in depth in chapter 9. That's Christ. He's the Great
High Priest. His people are on His heart and
He's got them all on His shoulders. and even graven on the palm of
his hand. Their names. Their name. That was who the
high priest represented. That's who he went in to make
the atonement for, the people of Israel. He offered up the
blood. But hold on. Paul later on in
Romans said, they are not all Israel that are of Israel. Neither
because they're the children of Abraham are they the sons
of God. No. He said the sons of promise
are the children of God. That is, he's still talking about
election. Not the national people. You
know, it's only two people over the age of 20 went into the promised
land. In Israel, Israel going through the Exodus and through
the wilderness, only two, Joshua and Caleb, went in the promised
land. The Lord was angry. The Lord killed many, perished
in the wilderness. So it's not a national people
that's talking about Israel. Israel is a spiritual people.
He went on to say that true circumcision is of the heart, not the flesh. He is a Jew which is one inwardly. Scripture said. Although God
did save thousands, at least 144,000 out of every tribe in
Israel. Right? Yes, He did. The Lord told the disciples,
go, preach the gospel, start at Israel. Beginning, the Jew
first, and the Lord saved many. Probably still saving some actual
national Jews. Certainly it. But now this is
talking about his people, this new covenant in the last days,
after the law, after Moses and the people, talking about, these
are going to be my people. These are my people. Those whom
he did foreknow, he did predestinate. Predestinated, called and justified
and glorified. God's elect. even now, a remnant
according to the election of grace. And all Israel, they are
Israel, and all of them are going to be saved. All Israel. All right, so look at that verse
10. He says, the house of Israel. That's who he's talking about.
The house of Israel, that spiritual Israel. Spiritual Israel. And look at what he said. Make
with the house of Israel, or concerning the house of Israel.
It's not something, an agreement, if you'll do this, I'll do that.
No, no, no. Notice he's saying, here's what I'm going to do concerning
them. I will make with, or that is
concerning them, them and mine, the house of Israel. I will put
my laws into their mind. I will write them in their heart.
I will be to them a God, and they will, they shall be my people."
He's not asking anybody. He doesn't ask anybody if they
will let him be their God. He said, I will be their God.
He doesn't ask them, will you accept what I say? Will you believe?
No, he said, I will put it in their hearts and their mind.
They will know I'm God and they will be my people. Salvation
is of the Lord. Salvation belongs to Him. And it's by His sovereign power,
and His sovereign mercy, and His sovereign grace, and His
sovereign Holy Spirit, and His sovereign blood. I will, I will,
I will. We're not arguing doctrine here.
The glory of God is at stake here. The Word of God is at stake
here. And men, the most blasphemous thing that human beings can say
is talk about free will. It's the most blasphemous to
talk about man's free will when God Almighty plainly says, Ephesians
1, he worketh all, and he quoted this too, he worketh all things
after the counsel of his will in heaven and upon earth. Not of him that willeth, but
of him that runneth. It's of God. Salvation is of
the Lord. And I'm thankful. Those that
know themselves. Before the Lord dealt with you,
you could care less about God. Or some of you thought you knew
God and didn't, but He in sovereign mercy revealed Himself to you. But I'm so glad, he said, you
will be my people to me, to this wild ass's cult, this wild prodigal
son. I'm so glad, he said, that's
as far as you're going, turn around. Now you will believe
this." And I said, yes, I will. I will. Put it in their hearts
and minds. They shall know me, verse 11.
They shall not teach every man his neighbor, every man his brother.
They are begging people, beseeching people. Know the Lord. Know the
Lord. They'll all know me. They'll all know me. quoted Isaiah 54 himself. He wrote Isaiah 54, but he quoted
it in John 6.45. He said, they shall all be taught
of God. Meaning his people. His people. And he's quoting Isaiah 54.13. All thy children, whose children? God's children, shall be taught
of the Lord. Was every human being a child
of God? No. They're sons of Adam. But they're children of God by
adoption. They're children of God by new
birth. Born of God. But all aren't the children of
God. Because all aren't taught of
the Lord. Everybody doesn't believe. Everybody doesn't believe. Everybody
doesn't believe. Many people don't even believe
there is a God. But he says they will all be taught of the Lord. And our Lord said, everyone that
has heard and learned of the Father cometh to me. All that
the Father giveth me, Christ said, shall come to me. And he
that cometh to me, I will in no wise cast out. My Father gave
them me. And he said, that's who I come
to lay down my life for, to put away their sin. These are the
people of God given to Christ, he's the Great High Priest, and
he goes in to the Holy of Holy and offers up his blood to pay
for their sins. Not everyone. Not to make an
attempt. Not to put out a general amnesty that everybody, whoever
wants to accept it, may. No, no, no. This is a particular
death for a particular people, particular redemption. And it
put away their sins. That blood of Christ. Look here,
it says in verse 10, I'll put my laws into their mind. That's
the Word of God. Write it in their heart. God's
Word is in the mind. They know the truth as it is
in Jesus Christ. You ask any believer, true believer,
concerning the Word of God, they can answer it. Ask them anything. That's right. Ask them anything. Now, I'll ask somebody. I don't
want to scare you here. Where's the mercy of God, Brother
Stan? In Christ. Oh, in Christ. Where is the love
of God, John? In Christ. Oh, I see. The wisdom
of God. Sum it all up in a word, Mac.
Hmm. What about the purpose of God,
Patrick? Christ? Give me something. Give me a
subject. They all know this. From the least to the greatest.
Our little children. Jennifer was taught as a child
down in the classroom in every book in the Old Testament. I
bet she can still say them. Can you still say all those Old
Testament titles? I'm not going to ask you. She
could frighten look on her face. I bet she could. In Genesis 3.15,
the woman's seed. Exodus, the Passover lamb, Leviticus,
the scapegoat, the atonement, on and on it goes. Been taught
as children. What's all the counsel of God,
all the salvation of God, all the wisdom, the power of God,
the mercy of God, the grace of God, the love of God, everything? Jesus Christ. He's all. I'm going to put that in their
minds. and in their heart. They're not only going to know
this, they're going to love it to be so. He said, I'm going to be to them
a God. I love that. Verse 10. I will be to them a
God. Capital G. My people. All my people know I'm God. That ought to be a mute point, shouldn't
it, The name means absolute sovereign. You can't let God be God. I've got to raise my voice here.
I'm sorry. That's foolish. In the beginning,
God said, let there be light. Now, who was around? Who did
they ask? Can I do this? There wasn't anything
or anybody. He said, Be. Be, He created man. He owns him. He rules over him. Man is in His palm. Not the other
way around. Now, Jesus is in your hands.
That's blessed man. I will be to them God. Boy, they'll know from the least
to the greatest, I am God. Beside me, there's none else.
Satan's not God. God has him under his divine
power, Satan. He can only do what God allows
him to do according to his divine, infinite wisdom, which I don't
understand. I don't either, but that's the way it is. Man is
not a little God. He's not doing as he will. God
is God. Man does as God says. I'll be to them a God, and they'll
be to me a people." What kind of people? Worshipful people. Submissive people. Humble people. A people. The people of God.
Who is God? He said, I'll be known unto them.
They'll know me, verse 11, they'll know me from the least to the
greatest. Who is God? Jesus Christ is God. People still don't believe that
today. Fundamental Southern Baptists don't believe that. He's Jesus.
He's a healer and a miracle worker and so forth. Catholics, Episcopalians,
Anglicans, Methodists, Baptists, you name them, they don't really
believe that that man who walked this earth is the one who made
it, who sits on the circle of it. Do they? Our Lord came. When He came,
He said to His disciples, whom do men say that I am? They said,
well, some say this or some say that. They said some good things.
Who do you say that I am? See, all His people know. We
know, listen to this, 1 John 5, verse 20 says, that the Son of God has come
and has given us an understanding that we may know Him that is
true and we are in Him that is true, even in His Son Jesus Christ,
and this is the true God and eternal life. God was manifest
in the flesh. It's a great mystery, but it's
without controversy. Men can dispute it and not believe
it, but so. Christ said, if you believe not
that I am, you will die in your sin. Who can forgive sins but
God? Jesus Christ is God. All flesh
will see Him someday seated on His throne. God. The people of
God. The people of God, he said in
Isaiah 53, for the transgression of my people was he stricken. Speaking of the blood of Christ,
the atonement of Christ, who Christ died for. Isaiah 53 verse
8, for the transgression of my people was he stricken. Matthew 1 verse 21 says, Call
his name Jesus for he shall save his people from their sin. He said, I am the good shepherd,
I lay down my life for who? My sheep. My sheep. I'm not arguing a doctrine here. But this is what we call, what
we categorize or define as particular
redemption. And the point is, the whole point
of everything is the glory of God. The glory of God in salvation. His wisdom. God Almighty purposed
salvation. Now would you purpose something,
you and I might purpose something and not know the outcome of it.
In fact, that's not the way God does that. Known unto God are
all His works from the beginning of the world. That's what Acts
15, 18 says. God's glory, He purposed everything. He purposed
the salvation of whom He would save and gave them to cry. God's
purpose and God's power, the glory of God's power to do as
He said He would do is at stake here. If God purposed to save someone
and they're not saved, He's not God. The glory of the Lord Jesus
Christ is at stake here. His righteousness. He came down
here to live a life to fulfill the law perfectly. Not for himself,
but for someone. Now if he did that, and he imputed
that, and charged that to someone, did that make them righteous
or did it not? Well, if it didn't, then he failed. He failed. Brother Stephen, Isaiah
42 says, he shall not fail. Long before he came, God said,
he shall not fail. And when he hung on that cross,
he said, it's finished. Finished! Having obtained eternal
redemption for us, We'll see that in a minute. His blood was
shed. Now let me ask you fathers in
here, mothers, would you for a moment send your child, have your child
die a brutal, bloody death for someone in vain? Would you do that? You wouldn't
even think of it, would you? I, for one, wouldn't sacrifice
my daughter for anybody. Not even me. They're not worth
it. I'm not worth it. But such is
the love and the mercy of God in that while we were yet sinners,
Christ died for the ungodly. But He didn't die for all of
them. He died for those whom God Almighty chose. and mercy
and love and grace. He died for those whom God chose. And God purposed that in time
they would be broken over their sin and they would beg God for
forgiveness for their sins and thank God to the top of their
lungs and the bottom of their heart for sending Jesus Christ
to die for them. Every last one of them. His blood
was not shed in vain. Not one drop of Christ's blood
was wasted. drop of his blood secured the
everlasting salvation of every single person that he shed it
for. That's called particular redemption, successful redemption. His glory is at stake, the glory
of his blood. Does the blood of Jesus Christ,
God's Son, cleanse us or does it not? What is it that makes
an atonement for the soul? The blood of Jesus Christ or
the blood in my faith? Blood and. It's not the blood
and anything. It's the blood. We have faith because of the
blood. Whoever Christ died for, the Holy Spirit comes and finds
that person who said, believe, repent, quickens them. Particular redemption. The glory
of the Holy Spirit is at stake here too. Is He able to quicken, to regenerate? Is He
able to keep, preserve, present us faultless? His glory is at
stake here. Anybody perishes. And our Lord
said it in John 17, He said, Of all that thou hast given Me,
I have lost nothing. I've kept them. Not a doctrine
here. God's glory is at stake. Our
salvation is at stake. If Christ died for me, and He
died for a fellow that's in hell right now, what good is the blood
of Jesus Christ? I might go to hell anyway. If
God loves me, and as a fellow, He cast in hell that love. He loves everybody, but He threw
him in hell. And what good does the love of
God do me? What's it got to do with anything? See, His glory is at stake. Would
you cast somebody in hell you love? Don't be foolish. How foolish can you get? What
kind of love is that? Scripture says love never fails.
It means He still loves them. It's foolishness. What men preach
and believe is foolishness and blasphemous to God. Either salvation is of the Lord,
His will, His choice, His power, His righteousness, His blood,
or it's not. Either Christ put away all the sins of all of God's
people, or He did not. Either salvation was accomplished,
Satan defeated, sin and death put away, or it is not. It can't
be both. Dictum factum. I'm here to tell
you, dictum factum. God says, I said it, it will
be done. Be to them a God. I will. Their
sins and their iniquities, I will remember no more. Why, John?
Because they're put away. The only way you can't remember something
is if it's gone. It's not there anymore. It's
not there anymore. Let me show you a few things.
It says here in chapter 9, it says in verse 7, "...and to
the second veil went the high priest alone once every year,
not without blood, which he offered for himself and for the errors
of the people." which we were talking about, the people of
God, down in verse 12. It's not by the blood of goats
and calves, but by his own blood, Christ entered in once into the
holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. Who's us? Well, down in verse
24, Christ is not entered into the holy places, verse 24, made
with hands for the figures of the true, but into heaven itself
now to appear in the presence of God for us. Verse 28, Christ
once offered to bear the sins of, does it say all? No. Many. Many. And to them that
look for Him. Those that believe. That's why
Christ said, Whosoever believeth. That's who God loves. Whoever
believes. Who will believe? Well, faith is not yourself,
it's the gift of God. All of His people will believe.
Whosoever they may be. Go to Revelation 22. When we
preach, we define who we are talking to. Who is talking, what
the subject is, and to whom. To understand the Scriptures,
at least in your head, you need to know who is speaking. You
might be quoting somebody like one of those three friends of
Job. Right? Over in the book of Job.
But God said they didn't speak right of me. So you might be quoting a heretic
or in the book of Kings, one of these false kings or false
prophets or so forth. You need to know who's talking.
Well, who's speaking here? This is God speaking. To whom
is He speaking? The Hebrews. Who's the Hebrews
written to? Like the rest of the epistles,
it's a letter. When you write a letter, you
address it, don't you? You write a letter, dear so-and-so. Sometimes you do say, to whom
it may concern. You're just hoping somebody will
read it. That's not God's letters to His
people. It says, to all that be in Rome,
called of God, called to be saved. And Hebrews says, holy brethren,
to the holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling. That's
who Hebrews written to. And the us is those holy brethren. Partakers of the heavenly calling.
Foreknown, predestinated, called. Heavenly calling. Alright? There are many scriptures. We
did this one time in a Bible study. We went through and looked
at these scriptures that men take out of context and pervert
them and make them seem to apply to everyone in general. Universal. No, no. Alright, look at Revelation
22, 17. Now, you've heard many times
say, whosoever will, let him come. Haven't you? Whosoever will, let him come.
Whosoever will, come. It doesn't say that. Barnard
used to say, I'll give $500 to the first person you can find
in the Bible where it says, whosoever will, let him come. And man, he'd go into these places
and they'd be frantically thumbing through there to try to find
it. It's not there. Not there. Not one prophet ever
stood up in a public crowd of people and said, God loves you.
Not one place in all of the Scripture did we ever find that. Not one.
Not one apostle got up in a public place and said, Christ died for
us. Not once. Not once. Sorry. Not once. But this is exactly
what preachers are doing all over the land. Throwing the blood of Christ
out there, it's trodden underfoot like a common thing. That's degrading. Look at it. Revelation 22, 16. I, Jesus, have sent my angel
to testify unto you these things in the what? Churches. This whole book is written to
the church. Like Revelation 3, it says, I
stand at the door and knock. How many times have people used
that? Who's he talking to? The church. His people. He says, I'll come in and sup
at any time. Read on. To the churches, I am
the root, offspring of David, the bride and the morning star,
and the Spirit. That's the Holy Spirit. And the
bride, that's the church, say come. Well, if the Spirit says
come, you reckon they're coming? Huh? My dog, when I say come, he comes. Right? Spirit, all-powerful Holy
Spirit says come, and you will come. Oh, but the Father giveth
me shall come to me by the Spirit of God. And the bride, we preach
come. We preach come, don't we? Come
to Christ. Come to Christ. Not begging people. Not pleading
with people. Not asking people to accept you.
Oh, no, no, no, no, no. We're just saying come. You better
come right now. Come. And let him that heareth
say, and everybody says, come. Come thou with us and we'll do
thee good. Let him that is a first come. So there you have the Holy
Spirit saying it through the preaching of the gospel. And
there's a thirst. Who creates a thirst in people
for Christ, the water of life? Do they have that natural? No,
no, no, no, no. They despise and reject Him.
When the Lord dealt with that woman at the well, she came to
get water. She came to get water. Brought
her pot to get water. to wash with, and maybe she was
thirsty right then. By the time the Lord got through
with her, she was thirsting for living water. She dropped her
water pot. And from right then, she wanted
that living water. Why? Because Christ created a
thirst in her. He said, you're thirsty now,
aren't you? She said, I sure am. Give me this water, she said,
that I may never thirst again. And whosoever will, whoever it may be, Jew, Gentile,
old, young, male, female, whosoever, by the mercy and grace of God
will, whoever will, take it and take the water of life freely. I was going to show you several
other places. concerning these, like 2 Peter 3.9, they abused
that woman. That woman preacher wrote me
a letter about that and used that 2 Peter 3.9 and said, God
is not willing that any should perish, that all should come
to... Yeah, I didn't answer it. It wasn't worth my time. But 2 Peter 3 says four times,
2 Peter, like 1 Peter, is addressed to the people of God. It says,
elect according to the foreknowledge of God. The elect of God. And it says four times in chapter
4, Beloved, Beloved, Beloved, Beloved. Beloved, 2 Peter 3,
Beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, as a day is a thousand
years and a thousand years is a day in the sight of the Lord.
God is not long-suffering concerning His promise to us, us-ward. He's long-suffering
to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all
should come to to a knowledge of God through repentance. Who's
he talking about? Us. It was us. The beloved. God's people. And as I say, I'm
not arguing the doctrine here at all. I'm not trying to prove
us at all. But just the Word of God. The
truth of God. Just trying to declare the truth
of God's Word because His glory is at stake here. Too many. Far too many throwing His Word
out there to be trodden underfoot by... It's just awful what they're
doing. Corrupting the Word of God. It's awful. The name of
God, the blood of Christ is being thrown out there like a bone,
you know, like a bone to the dogs. Our Lord said, do not cast
pearls before swine. So I'm going to bring my gospel
to my people, and they're going to venerate it. They're going
to exalt it. They're going to bow to it. They're
going to love it. They're going to glorify me.
Oh, don't cast it out there. Don't put it up there on a sign
for everybody to read, God loves you, and He did this for us. No, no, He did not do this for
everybody. It is for His people. You might
be one of them. Ask Him. Ask Him. He might have
mercy on you. Well, He will have mercy if you
ask Him. But it's too precious. It's too
glorious. It's just too subtle to be any
other way. Particular redemption to the
praise of the glory of His grace.
