It streams from the hills, it
descends through the plains, and sweetly distils in the dew
and the rain. Grail, children of dust, and
feeble as grail, in thee do we trust, nor blindly to fail. Thy mercy, how tender, how firm
to the end, our Maker, Defender, Redeemer and Friend. Thank you, Gabe and Sherry. Sherry, that operatory was very
fitting with the Bible study. Well, I'm not ready to switch
gears yet. I'd kind of like to keep commenting
on that story. The hymn she played reminded
me of it. The one prelude reminded me of
it. Good choice. But was there any
doubt in the minds of the children of Israel that David was able,
from that day forward, any doubt who was the greatest among them,
any doubt who deserved to be king, any doubt that he could
leave, he was able. Matthew 21. Go to Matthew chapter
21 with me. I want to read the whole text
since we did not for the Bible reading. Matthew 21, let's read
verses 1 through 11. And when they drew nigh unto
Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage, unto the Mount of Olives, then
sent Jesus to disciples, saying unto them, Go into the village
over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ascot. and a
coat with her, loose them, and bring them unto me. And if any
man say aught unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them,
and straightway he will send them. All this was done that
it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet Zechariah,
saying, Tell ye the daughter of Zion, Behold, thy king cometh
unto thee. and sitting upon an ass and a
colt, the foal of an ass. And the disciples went and did
as Jesus commanded them, and brought the ass and the colt,
and put on them their clothes, and they set him thereon. And
a very great multitude spread their garments in the way, and
others cut down branches from the trees and strawed them in
the way. And the multitudes that went
before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of
David. Blessed is he that cometh in
the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. And when he was come into Jerusalem,
all the city was moved, saying, Who is this? And the multitude
said, This is Jesus, the prophets of Nazareth, of Galilee. Most of you probably remember
that message a couple of years ago. It's been, well, three years,
actually, taken from Mark 11 on this very story. Christ riding
that ass into Jerusalem. It's recorded in all four Gospels,
so it's very significant. You may remember that story,
and as much as I wanted to deal with that fully again, we're
just going to look at it briefly because the rest of this needs
to be dwelled on. Verses one and two says the Lord
sent two disciples. He's coming into Jerusalem. He
sent two disciples saying unto them, go into the village over
against you on the other side. And straightway, or you shall
immediately, you shall find an ass tied in a coat with her.
Loose them. Bring them to me. Our Lord sent
these handpicked disciples. Whom he had chosen. Our Lord
sent these disciples often by pairs, didn't he? By twos. Throughout
Israel, he said, beginning in Israel. And then later sent them
throughout the then known world, the Gentile world, to preach
the gospel. The Lord chose these men and
sent them to preach the gospel. Scripture says, How shall they
preach except they be sent? There's a lot of so-called, and
I always preface that name, preacher, with those words. And I think
it's a high title that doesn't belong to very many people. So-called
preachers. Preacher is a lofty thing, it
really is. To God, his son was a preacher. Not to the world, they call it
foolishness. They please God by this foolishness
to save them that believe. And aren't you thankful? Because
you esteem preaching now as the preaching of Christ, the wisdom
and the power of God. But Christ sent these disciples
of his by pairs into the world the sovereign Lord had this coat
and this ass tied up in bondage. The Lord had this animal there
tied up as he was though a man had him in captivity though somebody
owned that ass and that coat at that time and had that one
and I got it I got it I am dwelling on Though somebody else owned
that had that one in captivity, it belonged to the Lord all along.
And the Lord had that one tied up and sent these two disciples
in to find that one that was tied up, and the first thing
he said was, loose him. Loose him. And the Lord delivers
all those who were held captive by Satan at his will, and he
does not bind us anymore, but he looses us. Looses us. has his elect his people where
they are where he puts them in order to hear the gospel. That's
what I'm trying to say. The Lord put you one day where he would
have you to hear the gospel from his preacher and what he did
to you at that time was loose you from your captivity. You
read with me in Zechariah. Tell the prisoners of hope. I've come to set at liberty them
that were captive. Well and like this ass and this
coat All of God's people were unbroken, unwritten, untamed before the
Lord calls them. Wild asses cults, that is, we're
just like our parents, unbroken, untamed until the Lord calls
us. In verse 3, and our Lord said,
if any man say unto you, what are you doing? You shall say,
the Lord hath need of them. You know, the Lord doesn't need
any man does really, in reality, the Lord doesn't need any man.
The Lord didn't. It's not like that false prophet
said that God created man because he was lonely. He actually said
that. And many other blasphemous things
they say about God needing man has God and has no hands, but
that's just not so. That's blasphemy. God doesn't
need anybody. That's what makes him God. He's
self-sufficient, has need of nothing and no one. God didn't
need anybody. But God created all things and
created us. This people have I formed for
myself. They shall show forth my praise,
my glory. The only reason that God has
need, as it were, of anything is to show forth his glory. I've
chosen you, the Lord said, that you might glorify me. And this
asks, There were millions of asses all over the place, weren't
there? And the Lord chose this one.
Why? What was the purpose? I'm getting way ahead of myself.
What was the purpose of this one cult? Well, we shall see.
The Lord had need to prove, number one, to prove who he was. In
verses four and five, this was done that it might be fulfilled,
which was spoken by the prophet, saying, Tell ye the daughter
of Zion, that is Israel. Behold, thy king cometh unto
thee, meek and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an
ass." All things must be fulfilled that are written in the Law of
Moses and in the Prophets and in the Psalms concerning Christ. That one named Jesus of Nazareth
is the Christ. How do we know? Scripture prophesied
of him, and when he came he fulfilled every one of those prophecies.
Scripture said he would come into Jerusalem, when he finally
comes into Jerusalem, to do that great work, to set at liberty
these captives. He would come riding a donkey,
and he would be meek and lowly on a colt, the foal of an ass.
And this is exactly, the disciples found it just as he said. And
we find it just as our Lord prophesied of Christ. Here he comes. Christ
comes riding into Jerusalem, sitting on a colt, the foal of
the ass. Anybody who's looking for him
ought to know this is him. That's him. Because he's fulfilling
the scripture. That's how we know our Christ
is the Christ, as opposed to this other one, this imposter
named Jesus, this other Jesus. Don't worry. He's the same yesterday,
today and forever. He's the same Christ, the same
one in the beginning that made all things by the word of his
power, came in the word of his power, and has all power over
all things. That's how we know that our Jesus,
our gospel, is the gospel. He fulfills everything. This
is our gospel, how that Christ died, according to So he came to prove he was the
Christ and to prove his power and his Godhead, to prove he's
the sovereign Lord, and he rides the unwritten. In Mark's gospel,
it says, it made it very clear that this colt had never been
ridden by any man. How old it was, I don't know.
But nobody apparently could ride it. It was unbroken, untamed. The Lord said, get him. I'm getting
on him. But Lord, you can't. Watch. And
he proves he rides the unridden. He's the breaker of the unbroken.
He's the Lord and Master of his people. He said, you call me
Lord and Master, you say, well, that's just what I am. Nancy,
he's our Lord and our Master. We don't say it in word only.
We know it so in truth. He's Lord. He doesn't want to
be if I let him. He is. He is. people like this are made willing
in the day of his power to be under him, beneath him, to be
his servant. Verses six and seven. And the
disciples went and did as Jesus commanded them. Everything does. Everything he does. God doesn't
want anything. God doesn't try anything. God
doesn't attempt anything. God gives the commandment and
it happens. And they did as he commanded them. And they brought
the ass and the cold and put on them their clothes and set
him there on the purpose of this coat, the sole purpose of this
coat. And they say the reason the Lord
chose this animal, the reason it says he had need of him, not
that he couldn't do without him, but the reason he chose the purpose
for this cold was to be what? To be exalted, as it were, to
be lifted up above everyone else, for all to see him. And that's
our purpose. That's the reason God saves his
people, to show his power. Our Lord showed his power over
this animal. And to ride into Jerusalem, the
Lord chose this animal to be lifted up by this beast. And
so it is with all of God's people. This people, I quote, have I
formed for myself. They will show forth my praise.
That's our only purpose. The reason he chooses us and
saves us is to show his power and to be exalted by him. And
he chose, and you may remember this, he chose an ass to ride
on. Why didn't he choose, Wesley,
why didn't he choose a big noble black stallion? Why didn't he
choose a big white Lipizzaner stallion? Well, Captain, why
didn't he choose this big noble steed to come riding on? Well,
number one, Scripture says that he's going to re-ride on the
donkey to prove the Scripture. But when he came riding into
Jerusalem, there's not one person who said, would you look at that
donkey? In fact, no one ever made mention
of that donkey. He's not going to share his glory
with an ass. with a noble steed. He didn't
choose. Our Lord, not many mighty, not
many noble are called. The Lord chooses sinners, the
chief of sinners, harlots and publicans. And in glory someday,
nobody is going to say, would you look at those beautiful people. They're going to say, would you
look at that altogether lovely boy. He's not going to share
his glory with another. And that's why he chooses whom
he chooses. Because he's going to get the greater glory. Oh,
now, someday he is going to ride on a big white horse. Have you
read that? Uh-huh, in the end. You see,
the first time the Lord came, it was meek and lowly. to fulfill scripture, meek and
lowly. The first time Christ came, we
see Jesus made a little lower than the angels. Why? For the
suffering of death. He was meek and lowly, submissive
to the will of God, submitting to the law of God for the purpose
of death, to suffer death for it, our substitute. He threw
weakness, the scripture said. Meek and lowly. The next time
when he comes again, and he is coming again, He came the first
time as prophesied, just as Scripture said he would. He came. Yes,
he did. Exactly as it said he would come. He's coming again,
Vicki, just as Scripture said he would. Next time he's not
meek. He's not meek and lowly anymore. This is where the world's
got it all wrong. He's not meek and lowly anymore.
He's not gentle Jesus, meek and mild anymore. He's the sovereign
Lord in whose hands our breath is sitting upon a throne, not
sitting on an ass, sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up.
And when he comes the next time, it's not for salvation. It's
for damnation, for judgment, to pull his people out of this
place and to then to destroy the world. He comes the next
time as a conquering judge of all the earth. And the scripture
actually says he's going to be riding a white horse. White horse. So he chose this animal. And
no one commented on the fine animal he was riding. But they
sang praises to the Christ. Verse 8. And a very great multitude
spread their garments in the way. What's the way? Well, it's
where Christ was trotting. where Christ was right, where
Christ was headed, in his way. A very great multitude, and wherever
Christ was, he was attended by a great multitude. A great multitude
attended his entrance into Jerusalem. And this has significance. A
great multitude, always, at all times, witnessed what he was
doing. It was no secret that he was
coming. It was no secret that he was
coming into town. The disciples would have had
it be so. They were afraid. John, they
just didn't know, did they? They really didn't know who he
was until after he arose from the grave. And they were afraid
for his life. They were afraid for their own.
But after they saw, you know, the head cut off, they were not
afraid for him anymore. And they weren't afraid for themselves
anymore after that. But not knowing. Not knowing. They were afraid for the Lord.
They wished he had crept into town in the cover of darkness. The Lord didn't walk in darkness. Never. He is light. And he did nothing
in secret. The Apostle Paul, preaching before
Agrippa one time, said that very thing, didn't he? He said, Oh,
Agrippa, this thing wasn't done in a corner. And I've brought to your attention
before that fish sign that people are so fond of. You know, people
are fond of idols. They always have been and always
will be fond of little idols. And they wear them, like to wear
them, and put them on their cars and all that fish. That doesn't
show you're a Christian. That just shows you're ignorant.
Well, anyway, they say that came from a secret society of Christians
that used to hide in fear of their lives. and how they would
signal other Christians who want to meet with them, they put a
fish in the window. I don't know where they got that. It's an
old wives' fable, I believe. But the scriptures does not say
that God's people ever did anything in secret in fear of the enemy. This thing was not done in a
corner. Christ didn't fear and neither
have his people. Read Hebrews 11, huh? Daniel says, throw them in the
lion's den. Peter said, should I listen to you or God? Huh? They weren't afraid. And if ever time came where it became
against the law for us to meet in public, we're not going to
do it in secret. This thing was not done in a
corner. There was no secret. It was no secret that Christ
was coming. In fact, The coming of Christ had been announced
and heralded before the world began. God began saying this
back in the garden. God began saying this for all
flesh to hear. Somebody's coming. This thing
wasn't a secret. Far from it. They should have
been expecting him. All who looked for him were.
And they knew him when he came. But all impostors and all pretenders
didn't know him when he came. They weren't looking for him.
They were just being religious. Well, this thing was announced
by God, heralded by God in the beginning. God to Adam and Eve,
the first sinner, said, the woman's seed is going to bruise a serpent's
head. You know why the book of Genesis
is called that? The word means beginning. Everything
God Institute everything God set
for all everything started right there and God didn't change that.
That's the first chapter and if you read any book. You read
the introduction you read the first chapter it sets the theme
that it sets the theme will set up just sets the theme of God's
work and God began saying in Genesis somebody's coming and
throughout the book somebody's coming. All the way to Malachi,
somebody's coming. And all these types and symbols
and prophecies and pictures and stories were for those express
purpose to declare someone's coming. This is no secret to the coming.
And a vast multitude throughout time, those that went before
us, were told somebody's coming. And those that follow after.
And in the fullness of time, God sent forth his son. Just
as he said, in the fullness of time, God sent forth his son,
made of a woman, made under the law, to do what? Oh, to try to
save people who fell there. No. To redeem them. That's what his
name is, and that's what he did. To redeem them that were under
the curse, under the law. He came to redeem. He called
his name Jesus. That's what it means. He shall
save his people from their sin. Well, God sent a multitude when
Christ was born. He sent a multitude, Scripture
says, of the heavenly host to announce his coming. It says
that suddenly there appeared unto them a heavenly host praising
God and saying, Glory to God in the highest. And on earth
peace. Peace is on earth now. The peace
of God. in a person. Goodwill toward
men. Not man, men. That's what God announced. And
now he's coming into Jerusalem. The Lord Jesus Christ is coming
into Jerusalem and a multitude heard about it. And they're there
to see it. Verse 8. And it says a very great
multitude spread their garments in front of him. They took off
their clothes, their outer garments, They took off their outer garment
and spread them at his feet. Now, what do you suppose the
significance of that? Well, to fulfill Scripture, for one, but
when we see Jehovah Sidkenna, you know what that means? Yes,
you do. The Lord, our righteous. Doesn't
Romans 10 say that Christ, verse 4, is the end of the law for
righteousness to everyone that believe it? Yes, Christ is Jehovah
Sidken, the Lord our righteous. He's made unto us righteousness.
And we see him as our righteousness. What do we do? We take off these
filthy rags that we're wearing. We take off this religiosity. This is every one of you, when
you first heard of the Christ, those of you who were religious
at the time, Good Christian folk, you know, that made your profession
of faith, and now we're living the Christian life. When you
saw Christ as he is, the holiness of God, the righteousness of
God, the first thing you did was throw away, like old Bartimaeus,
throw away that filthy, stinking rag that you trusted in, that
you covered yourself in, that you thought, oh, I look good.
Oh, get rid of this. You put it at his feet. And you
looked upon him from that you came naked as it were before
him to be close. There's nothing insignificant
in that work. Nothing in passing, everything
has divine, eternal significance. A very great multitude, there
will be a very great multitude in heaven who are once naked,
but are now clothed. They're wearing a garment and
Christ made it. It's the wedding garment that
he himself, by his own hands, wrought. Verse 8. And it says they cut down branches
from trees and strawed them in the way. What kind of tree do
you suppose they cut the branches off? I know what kind. Fig tree. I know it for a fact. It's a
fig tree, John. Everyone will cut down all the fig trees and
their leaves. It doesn't say. You can't prove
me wrong, but that has been a big trick. That's what Brother David
Pledger brought to our attention years ago. He said there's only
one tree that our Lord cursed while he was on this earth. Fig
tree. Why do you suppose that is? Because
that's the very tree which Adam and Eve tried to cover themselves
with, tried to cover their nakedness. a symbol of man's, whatever that
is, good works and all that. He tried morality, righteousness.
He tried to cover himself in. And so Christ, when he came,
said, curse it. Curse it. You'll never cover
yourselves with those again. And they withered. That tree
withered. And so I know for a fact that
they cut these fig trees down and put them in his way. All
right. Verse eight. I don't know for a fact, but
it sounds good. Verse 9, and it says that the multitudes that
went before and that followed, those that went before and that
followed, cried, shouted, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David. Blessed, Psalm 118, 26. Blessed
is he that cometh in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest,
the vast multitude before him, and those that followed after,
cried and shouted unto him." Hosanna. Now, the word Hosanna
means this. Oh, save us. The vast multitude before, and
that followed after, and that believed he was the son of David,
the Christ, they cried unto him. Every one of them cried the same
thing. Every one of them, out of their mouths, they said the
same thing. Oh, save us. And all that went before us,
there's been a vast multitude go before us of believers as
the sands of the sea. And all that follow after us,
all that come after us, all will be crying out the same thing
when they see him. When Christ comes and reveals
himself, they all cry out the same thing unto him that loved
them. Oh, save us. They know that salvation
is his. Salvation belongs to the Lord.
They all know that. And they all cry, without exception,
they all cry unto him. Oh, save us. Hosanna to the Son
of David. What does that mean? The Son
of David. There was not one person in Israel
who didn't know who David was. King. You ask them, who's David? King. He was God's king. He was our king. He's king of
kings. Greatest king ever lived, David.
They all knew that. It was one accord. And all of
God's people know Christ first and foremost as the king of kings
and Lord of lords. The Christ who is to come, the
son of David. King by God's decree. God declared
it. Psalm 2, God said, I will declare
the decree. Nobody made Christ king. The
shepherds, oh, lowly shepherds knew this. The wise and the prudent
did. The wise religious people today
don't know it. But the lowly shepherds said
this. They said, where is he that is born king? David was God's king all along,
wasn't he, John? He was born king. And later on,
God revealed to the people, this is your king, this is my king.
Now you crown him. We won't. Yes, you will. I've already crowned him with
the stars, but you will crown him. You will own him as your
king. You will be willing, won't you?
Yeah, he's our king. There were many people that were
against David and that followed Saul for a while, weren't there?
But every one of them, all of Israel eventually, bowed the
knee to David as they will. All of God's people made willing
to bow before the King of kings. Bless his holy name, they said,
with one accord. Bless his holy name. The word
bless is a good word. The word bless. Have you noticed
how the scriptures talk about us blessing God? These pinhead fellows, you know,
that wear all these costumes, they like to think they're blessing
people. They don't bless nobody. But Scripture talks about us
blessing God, doesn't it? Doesn't it, Juanita? Us blessing
God. Bless His holy name. What does it mean? It means to
attribute all honor, all glory to Him, to His holy name. Blessed is he that cometh in
the name of the Lord. The Lord Jesus Christ is his
name, and that's what we say. That's how we refer to him. All
of God's people know him as Lord Jesus Christ in that order, and
that's how they refer to him. About his preaching, is he always
refers to the Lord, every time. The Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord
Jesus Christ, the Lord Jesus Christ, every time. He uses his
full name, all of his titles, the Lord Jesus Christ, and we
bless his holy name. We do, God's people, like these
people. Bless his holy name, when we
call him Lord, we mean just that. He's not a figurehead, our Lord
is not a figurehead, he is the head. You understand that? That king over in England, that
fellow who's going to be king, he's not going to be king over
anything. His wife rules him. He's not going to be king over
anything. He's a figurehead, that's what the term figurehead
means, just a symbol. boats, remember ships years ago
used to put out in front of their ship on board the ship, used
to put a figure head, symbolic of whatever it was they worshipped,
mostly mermaids, stuff like that. Anyway, these figure heads, well
those things were dead, weren't they? They couldn't do anything.
Dead idols, that's all they were. And that's all people have this
Jesus for is a figure head. Our God's not a figure head.
He's head. He's captain. He's running the
ship. figurehead. He is the head. And
we say, Lord, what's what we mean? Not in name only, not with
the lips. This people, our Lord said concerning
all those religious people in His day, this people draws near
to Me with their lips and say, Lord, Lord. My people don't. They draw near with their hearts.
And they say from the heart, Thou art He. Thou art Lord. And we're sure glad You made
us know it. Not we let him be that, or not we made him that.
We're glad you let us know it before it was ever less than
too late, because everyone will know someday that he's Lord.
Always has been, always will be. And salvation, Brother Henry,
is to know it now, isn't it? Salvation is for this Lord to
make you His footstool and reveal to you, I am your Lord, aren't
I? Crying, my brother, I was the
youngest. My brothers used to always get
me down and make me say something. Did Steve ever do this to you?
Get you down and just, you know, mastery. Have the mastery over
you until you said something. Do you remember? I don't know
why this came to me. I don't know why we tried this,
but we did. Ron, you had older sisters didn't
you? Did your sisters get you down? minded to have an older sister
in my sister get me that they cry and say, cry, uncle. So as you say, uncle, I don't
know where that comes from. Then report back to uncle. Well, our Lord, every one of
his people, he has the mastery over every one of them are going
to cry from the heart, not just from the lips. They're going
to know. He is over me. He's in control of me. He has
hold of me. I'm not moving or doing nothing
unless He wills it. Say it! Lord. Thomas, say it! My Lord and my
God. Peter, say it! Lord, save us. Hosanna. You see the difference, don't
you? You know the difference. You've been made to know the difference
in your heart, not just your head, but in your heart. You've
been made to know the difference, to know Him. And you say it from
the heart because you know it from the heart. They're known
of Him. And it says, they said, Hosanna,
thou Son of the Highest. All who, every one of them, it
says, cried. Everyone whom Christ comes to.
See, He came to them, didn't He? is revealed to them, and
all who heard of the Christ, and all who hear of the Christ,
and all who had the Christ revealed to them are called by the gospel.
This is the gospel call. This is what God uses, what I'm
doing right now, what I'm saying right now, or rather who I am
declaring right now. This is what God Almighty uses
to bring the dead to life, to save the lost. to find a lot
of this is what in the world that is still lost cannot understand
they can't figure out how that just declaring this is what got
you because they themselves have not heard it but all who hear
this call this divine call of what Not it's not a it's not
a they don't God doesn't ask anybody. God doesn't plead. And in that sense, God doesn't
invite anybody to come. God gives a commandment. Don't
you love that? John, Psalm 71, three, is that
it? Thou hast given commandment to
save me. He said come and they come. He
comes to them, you see, and calls them, and without exception,
every one of them call on him. How shall they? Whosoever shall
call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. No one is saved
apart from calling on Christ. Now, why do they call? See, he gets the glory in the
call, even. They call on him, Hosanna, verses
10 and 11. I've got to quit. And when he
was coming to Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who
is this? All the city, everyone that was
around that day said, Who is this? And you know, you remember
when our Lord asked his disciples that day, Whom do men say that
I am? He knew what they were saying. There were a few that really
knew him. The whole city said, who is this? There were a few poor fishermen
that weren't asking that. There were a few poor fishermen
who knew who he was, didn't they? They weren't joined, they knew. They knew. You remember back
there in David's story, he said, all the assembly shall know.
God's in Israel. There were a few that he had
revealed to who knew who he was. And this is where you see the
tight ends. This is where all similarity
ends. And I'm sorry, folks, but anyone
who does not know who Christ really is, is lost. And you hear them all the time.
saying various things about him. They said, look at the people,
they said, this is Jesus, the prophet of Nazareth, of Galilee. This is Jesus. Well, what do
you mean, who is it? It's Jesus. Who do you believe
in? Ask people, do you believe in
Jesus? Here's a good question to ask people. Okay? When you see that on a car or
when you ask them and they say, gee, I believe in Jesus, Jesus
who? There's four million of them
in Mexico. And one of them can save a fleet.
Describe it to me. Describe it to me. And if they
start talking about another Jesus, you know, tries and fails and
all that, you still have, you know, might as well go to Mexico. That Jesus is not the Lord Jesus. Who is this? People who don't
know who he really is are lost. Our Lord said that. This is life
eternal, that they might know Thee, the only true God. That
is God. Who is God? And Jesus Christ,
who now has sinned. Every preacher or spirit that
confesses that Jesus has come in the flesh, he's made flesh. And all that that means is God. Who is this? Would you turn in
closing to Isaiah 25 with me? Who is this? Any and all who
merely talk of Jesus do not know the Lord of glory. Is that too
strong? Is that too narrow? Huh? Oh, no. Our Lord said this is
life eternal. This is the first thing, man, that God reveals
to you who Christ really is. First thing. And the rest of your life is
spent studying coming to find out more of who he is. See, he
keeps getting higher and higher, doesn't he? And you keep getting
lower and lower. You know why he was Jesus. You
know why he came as a meek and lowly. You know that. You know
that. Everybody knows that, Sharon, too. Flesh and blood didn't reveal
that to you, but the Father revealed to you why he was made Jesus
a little lower than the angels. Why? You know why. He had to
die. That's the only reason. He had
to Live by faith, that's the only reason. But he's not that
way anymore, is it? That's not your Jesus, is it
John? And therefore, you don't refer to him as such. He's now Lord, and that's how
you refer to him, mister. Southern girls were taught by
their mothers to address all older men or their elders as
mister, right? Some of these ladies have their
children call me Mr. Paul. I kind of like that. Not
that I deserve it, not that I want it, but it just shows respect
from the children. Mr. Paul. But our Lord demands,
God demands, that we call His son such. Lord, Lord. He said, you say that, and you
say, well, that's what I am. I've never referred to my dad
by his first name, and I never will. Well, they know Him, not
just as Jesus, but they know Him as the Lord of Glory. And
all who follow Christ now and all who follow Him later know
who He is. Look at Isaiah 25 in closing. Verse 9, It shall be said in
that day, Love, this is our God. We have waited for Him. And He,
Hosanna, He will save us. This is the Lord. We have waited
for Him. We will be glad and rejoice in
His salvation. All those religious Jews, you
know, who is this? Oh, there were 11 fellows that
knew. And pretty soon, more than that
had gone up. And thank God, He's revealed Himself to us. All the
assembly comes with it. God's with us. This is none other
than Emmanuel. We've waited for Him. And He
has saved us. And we are glad, and we rejoice,
and that's what all we do is about, talking about His salvation. It belongs to Him. He performed
it. It's His to give. It's His to
bring. He is it. That's the difference,
he said. And boy, they're going to know
it soon enough. Aren't you glad we're studying this? It's just
going to get... Our Lord's going to get... Remember,
we started this where the Lord's coming in Jerusalem, and he keeps
going higher and higher, gets on this donkey, higher, and he
ascends in the temple, higher. Then he starts walking out of
Jerusalem, up a mountain. Looks pretty defeated to some,
doesn't he? Oh, no. Oh, no. He's got a weapon
in his hand. What is it? A weapon on his shoulder. He's going to ascend high above
everyone and ascend his throne. I know the whole world thinks
that sin is just the beginning. The coronation of the King. And
then he goes on higher from there. So you're in a good place. It's
good for us to be here. Okay. Brother Dave? We'll sing in the blue book,
hymn number 314 and stand together. We'll sing the first, second,
and fifth verse to the tune of the doxology. 314. Hosanna to the Living Lord, Hosanna
to the Incarnate Word. To Christ, Creator, Savior, King,
Let earth reckon, Hosanna, sing. Hosanna, Lord, thine angels cry. Hosanna, Lord, thy saints reply. Above, beneath us and around,
the dead and living swell the sound. Last verse. So in the
last and dreadful day, When earth and heaven shall melt away, Our
clock, breathing from sinful stain, Shall swell the sound
of praise again.
