Baba. Everybody say, Baba. I just love the Old Testament
types. I can't get enough of them, and
some of you all have expressed the same feelings about hearing
these types. Every time I read a type, look
at a type in the scriptures of the Old Testament, I think of
someone. a man named Charlie Payne. Some
of you may have known him. I don't know. Was he ever here?
Was he down here? Did he preach here? Well, a few
months ago, Brother Charlie Payne passed away. He went to be with
the Lord. He was an elder in the church
in Ashland. Everybody that knew him held
him in to such high esteem. He was one of the most faithful
men I've ever known, and certainly one of the wisest of men. And Brother Charlie was known
as a student of the Old Testament, a student of the Scriptures,
especially the Old Testament. And he constantly preached from
the Old Testament types, constantly, clearly showing Christ in those
types. And Brother Charlie, I knew very,
very well, and his character was such that he was like Enoch
of old. He walked with God. He really
did. I knew him well, and he was just
such a rock, such a faithful man. He loved the Lord Jesus
Christ. He loved to talk about him and
preach about him and hear him preached. Brother Charlie was
a real example for all believers, to all that knew him. He was
certainly a good example for young preachers to follow because
of his faithfulness to God and his people, to Christ and his
people, and his wisdom and his knowledge in the scriptures,
and his close communion and relationship with Christ. And I believe that
all of this in this man's life can be attributed foremost to
the Grace of God, certainly, the grace of God. But God laid
upon this man's heart a keen desire to search the scriptures,
to study, as I've said, the Old Testament types. And it showed
in the man's walk. It showed. He knew, he diligently
studied the scriptures, especially the Old Testament scriptures.
And this is why I personally like to study the types and why
I like to show you what I believe the Lord shows me from the scriptures. And I've said this time and time
again, that when I see Christ come alive in one of these Old
Testament types, I just rejoice in seeing Christ revealed to
my heart as being who he says he is. You know, the New Testament
says he's here, he's here, and he came and he said, this is
who I am. Well, the Old Testament said that he was coming, and
this is who he is, is going to be. And when you see that, when
you dig and you search and you find some obscure passage that
speaks so clearly of Christ, you can't help but say, he really
is who he says he is. There's no doubt about it. It
just strengthens your faith. So what I need, and what you
need more than anything, is to see Christ more clearly from
the scriptures. This is where he speaks, from
this Word. And this is all the New Testament
saints had, really, before they started writing the New Testament. But this is all they had. And
we just read there in Luke how our Lord preached to them from
all the Old Testament books, and their heart just burned within
them. The gospel is just as clear in
the Old Testament. as it is in the New. And we need
to see him a little more clearly from these pages, from the Old
Testament. There is a scripture in 1 Corinthians that speaks
of the veil being over people's eyes in the reading of the Old
Testament. You know, when Moses came down from the mountain and
the veil was over his eyes so the people couldn't see the glory
of his face after having seen God? Well, Paul says that that
veil still remains in the reading of the Old Testament, so that
people can't see the glory of Christ in the Old Testament.
They brag on Abraham, they brag on all these old patriarchs,
but they don't see the glory of Christ in the Old Testament.
Blessed are your eyes, for they see. Blessed. And we need to
believe a little more strongly, as Hebrews 11.6 says, that he
is And that he is the rewarder of them that diligently seek
him. That he is indeed the Christ
from the Old Testament types. And that he will reward you if
you diligently search and seek him. You'll be seen of him. And
he'll bless you in a way that's unimaginable. So, when we see
him, When we seek him diligently in these Old Testament types,
we see more clearly and we are firmly convinced that Jesus Christ
is the Son of God, our only hope. So, let's look at this type,
and I won't keep you long at all. Be very short, God willing. Joshua, I want you to turn over
to Exodus chapter 17. As far as I know, and looking
it up, this was the first mention given of Joshua, and it's in
Exodus, chapter 17. You pray right now that the Lord
will open up my heart, open up the scriptures to my heart and
your heart. Joshua, chapter 17, verse 8. Now, Amalek was coming
after the children of Israel in the wilderness. Verse 8, Then
came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim. And Moses
said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out and fight with
Amalek. Choose us some men, and go out
and fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I'll stand on top of
the hill with the rod of God in my hand. You go fight. Now, Joshua was Moses' minister. He was his representative. He
represented Moses. He was his minister, his right-hand
man. Moses favored Joshua above all
others. He favored Joshua above all others.
He approved of Joshua. By the grace of God, he approved
of Joshua more than any other. And Moses gave commandment here.
to Joshua to select, to choose some men, and to go out and fight
before them. So, look at verse 10. So, Joshua
did as Moses had said to him. Joshua did just what Moses told
him to do. Turn over to John chapter 17.
John chapter 17. Our Lord, keep both places there.
We're going to keep referring back and forth. John 17, Exodus
17. I wonder, is it just coincidence
they're the same chapter? John 17. And look at another Joshua. Jesus. The name Joshua means just that,
Jesus. It's the Old Testament name,
the Hebrew name for the Greek name, Jesus. And in John chapter
17, look at this. Verse 10, Christ said in his
high priestly prayer, He said, All mine are thine. In other words, all that I've
chosen, you've chosen. And all thine are mine, and I'm
glorified in them. The heavenly Father highly favored
his Son. His Son is his right-hand man. the son of his right hand, isn't
it? He favors his son above all else. He's a man approved of
God. He's one chosen from among the
people, just like Joshua was, a man approved of God. And just
like Joshua was zealous for Moses' glory, one time there were some
people prophesying and Joshua wanted to forbid them. And Moses
said, Do you envy for my sake? He was flattered at that. He
said, Don't wood to God at all. were prophets. But Joshua was
zealous for Moses. Look at verse 2. Our Lord said here, You have
given me power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life
to as many as thou hast given him. God chose a people and gave
them to Christ. and made him captain over their
salvation. And just as Joshua did as Moses
said, Christ said, I must be about my Father's business. I
must do the things that my Father tells me to do. And he did. He
said there in that passage in Luke that we read, he said that
it must be fulfilled, the things written of Christ. He must be
fulfilled. He must do the things that the
Father told him to do. He must fulfill all the sayings
of God the Father. And he delighted to do the will
of the Heavenly Father, just like Joshua of old. So turn back
to Exodus 17 again. Keep your place in John 17. So
Joshua went out to fight. this battle. He did just like
Moses told him to do. Without hesitation, he went out
to fight this battle. And in verse 13, Joshua discomfited
Amalek and his people with the edge of his sword. In other words,
he was successful. He won the battle. I don't hear
mention of anybody else, just Joshua. And you know, I don't
hear mention of any casualties. No mention of any casualties
on the side of Joshua. Joshua was successful. He fought
the enemies and won. Then he reported back to Moses
about how the battle went. And like I said, no mention of
casualties. Well, look over at John 17 again. Look back over
there. Look at John 17, verse 4. The Lord here is reporting back
to the Father, and he said, I have glorified thee on the earth.
I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. I did it
all. I finished the work. God made
Christ captain of our salvation. And he came and he fought all
the forces of evil single-handedly and won, Terry, and won. And
he crushed Satan, he crushed sin by the sacrifice of himself.
His blood made atonement and covering for our sinful souls,
and by the edge of his sword, that is the power of his might,
the word of his power, everything falls before this Joshua. Everything. And he reported back to God,
and look at verse 12. He said, While I was with them
in the world, I kept them in thy name. I was captain over
them, and I kept them. Those that thou gavest me I have
kept, and none of them are lost, no casualties, but the son of
perdition that the scripture might be fulfilled." Mission
accomplished, all saved, and he reported back to the Father. Let's turn back to Exodus again. We'll look at verse 14. And then
after this battle, the Lord said unto Moses, he said, Write this,
write this happening. this battle for a memorial in
a book. Moses wrote a book and rehearsed
it in the ears of Joshua. You write a book and you discuss
it with Joshua while you write it, perhaps to get his input
on the thing. What does that remind you of?
Well, Christ said in John 17, verse 8, He said, The Father
gave me some words. And He said He gave the words
to the people. The Father wrote a book, too, and he consulted
his Son. What does that make you think
of? In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God. God the Father rehearsed everything
with Christ in the form of a covenant, you see. And Christ in these
last days has spoken unto us. He has spoken unto us the testimony
of God, this covenant, the gospel of the covenant mercies of God,
the gospel concerning himself. Look at Exodus 24. Look at this, verse 12. I want you to notice that wherever
Moses was, Joshua was. He was with Moses from a very
early time. And the Lord said unto Moses,
Come up to me in the mount, and be there, and I'll give you tables
of stone, and a law and commandments which I have written, that thou
mayest teach them." And Moses rose up and his minister Joshua. Joshua was with him. He was right
there with him. I used to think that everybody
went aside and Moses went in by himself. That's not what this
says here. Look at it. Moses went up into the Mount
of God and he said unto the elders, until we come again unto you. There's no mention of Joshua
departing from him. There's no mention here. I've
searched it. I don't see it anywhere. He went up with him. And that's
what the Gospel of John says. In the beginning was the Word.
The Word was with God. The Word was God. The same was
in the beginning with God. All things were made by him,
and without him was not anything made that was made. From Exodus 24 all the way over
to Exodus 31, God gave unto Moses while he was up in this mount,
and perhaps Joshua. Maybe Joshua was there. I looked.
I couldn't find him where he wasn't there. I couldn't find
his name mentioned, but I couldn't find where he wasn't. I see him
coming down together, coming down from the mountain. Well,
God gave unto Moses in these seven chapters. all the exact
instructions concerning the greatest picture of salvation ever known,
the ark of the covenant, the greatest picture of salvation.
He gave him all the types and the symbols of worship, all the
sacrifices were instituted there on that mountain with Moses and
Joshua, perhaps. And even so, God in eternity
past For millenniums, he went over the greatest manifestation
of his glory ever known to man, the gospel of people's salvation,
the gospel concerning his Son. He went over it with his Son
in meticulous manner. Every jot and every tittle had
to be fulfilled, and he went over it. For millenniums, perhaps,
he and his Son discussed this, what was to be done. Everything
has to be fulfilled, just like it's written, just like it's
written, just like it's written. Thus it behooves Christ to suffer
and fulfill all things written in the scriptures, all things
that the Father had given him. The gospel of the covenant was
meticulously planned and given to the Son and the Holy Spirit
to execute." Now look back at Exodus 33. So here they come down from the
mountain, Moses and Joshua. If you're going to get a kick
out of this, I did. If you don't, I'll get another
kick out of it. Exodus 33. They came down from the mountain,
and Moses—you know how the people had committed a terrible sin,
and he dealt with them and offered a sacrifice and so forth. And
they came down from the mountain, and Moses, in verse 7, took the
tabernacle and pitched it without the camp, afar off from the camp. And he called it the tabernacle
of the congregation. Now this is where God was going
to meet them, and the ark was in that. The ark was in the tabernacle,
which is a type of Christ also. And it came to pass that everyone
which sought the Lord went out unto the tabernacle of the congregation,
which was without The camp says that a few times here. Three times, as a matter of fact,
without the camp. They had to go to the tabernacle.
The tabernacle was the only place where God would meet with men.
It was the only way that men could approach unto God and worship
God. And the tabernacle was without the camp, outside of the camp. It was separate. from the camp
where the people live, separate from their wickedness and their
foolishness. They had to be separated, sanctified out there, set apart. And if anybody was seeking the
Lord, it said there, everyone which sought the Lord had to
go to the tabernacle. That's the only place they were
going to find God. They had to leave the camp and go to the
tabernacle, seeking God. It took an effort. It took an
error. They had to leave some people behind, perhaps. Even
so, Christ said, No man comes unto the Father but by me." Who
is he? He's the tabernacle of God among
men, isn't he? He said, I'm the way, the truth,
and the life. No man cometh unto the Father
but by me. Christ is the only place where God will meet with
man. The only place. He's the tabernacle
of God. And if any man is seeking God,
he'll only find him in Christ. Only find him in Christ, the
tabernacle of God. And that's where it says, it
says there in Hebrews 13, 13, let us therefore Let us go, therefore, unto him,"
or as they say, Terry, without the camp, because he's separate
from sinners in that he's sinless, he's the Holy One. He doesn't
take part in their sin up until he became sin for them. Come
out from among them, and if we're going to go to Christ, we have
to come out from among them and go to Christ without the camp.
Well, you say, what's this got to do with Joshua? Look at this,
look over at verse 11. And the Lord spake unto Moses
face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And Moses turned
again into the camp, but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun,
a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle. He stayed
in the tabernacle. Where was Joshua? He was in the
tabernacle. He was in the tabernacle, that's
where Joshua was, and he stayed right there. Joshua. You know, I read many, many,
many, many verses. I went all the way through the
book of Joshua, reading today, and nearly always it says, it
refers to Joshua as the son of none. The son of none. Well,
first of all, Joshua, the name Joshua means Jehovah saved. Jehovah saved, or in other words,
God's salvation, God's salvation. And Jesus Christ is God our Savior,
isn't he? And Jehovah saved. He saved by
God. He was kept by God from the foundation
of the world. He was the Lamb slain before
the foundation of the world. God had him saved and prepared
from the foundation of the world to deliver him in the end. God
had him prepared. And it says, a son of none. It
always calls Joshua the son of none. You know what the son of
none means? None means to be perpetual. To be perpetual. That means without
end. Joshua is the son of a man who
has no end. Who's that? That's Christ, the
Son of God, and he's referred to throughout the scripture as
Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God, the Son of God, the
Son of God throughout the scripture. The eternal Son of the eternal
Father. And it calls him a young man. You see that there in verse
11? Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man. Why does it say that? Well,
because God was with us in the form of a man. A young man. My age. A young man. Thirty-three
years old. And that God that was in that
man, Immanuel, never got out of the tabernacle. Uh-uh. That's what we read there in
Luke 24. I haven't left my tabernacle. I'm still in the tabernacle with
you. I've still got the same thing you have. And there's a
man in glory right now in the tabernacle, a tabernacle just
like we've got, so we can go to him. Oh, boy. Well, look at verse 14. And the
Lord said unto Moses here, he said, My presence shall go with
thee, and I'll give thee rest. Christ said, Where two or three
are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst. He said,
Lo, I'll never leave you, nor forsake you. My presence will
be with you always. He said, Come unto me, and I'll
give you rest. Didn't he? Well, do you know where Joshua
got his name? Look over at Numbers, the book
of Numbers, chapter 13. This is where Joshua got his
name. He used to be called Hosea. Hosea
was his name. Oshea. Look at Numbers 13. Let me read this to you. I'm moving right along here.
Let's see. Numbers 13, verse 6. These are the spies that Moses
sent into the land to spy out the promised land, to see what
was in there and so forth. And verse 6, of the tribe of
Judah, Caleb. That's significant. We'll see
that in a minute. Caleb was a tribe of Judah. And
on down here, it says of the tribe of Ephraim, and that's
the name for Israel, Oshiah, the son of Nun. Look down at
verse 16. These are the names of the men
which Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Oshiah
the son of Nun. Jehoshua. Moses gave him his name. Moses chose some men to go into
that promised land to spy it out and to bring back a report
from it. But one of them was special, as one exalted among
them. He was the special one among
them, a special prophet. One of them was given a name
above all the other names, Joshua. A special charge, too, was given
to Joshua as captain. And you know, the Lord even chose
him. He was that prophet. Joshua was. He was that prophet,
and the Lord chose him to lead the people into the promised
land. Well, just as Moses gave this man a name which was above
all the rest, God has given Christ, a name which is above every name,
that at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow and every tongue
confess that he is Lord." Joshua was God's chosen one to lead
the children into the promised land, and he was the only man
over 20 years old that was chosen, except Caleb. The name Caleb, as you probably
already know, means dog. Some say it means faithful dog.
Well, that'll work. I couldn't find it, but some
say it means faithful dog. But Caleb, his name was Caleb
son of Jephunneh. Now that name Jephunneh means
one prepared. God has a peculiar people, doesn't
he? A prepared people. Caleb's a picture. This is a
beautiful picture of Joshua and Caleb. of Christ and his people
and his followers going into the promised land, of the Lord
and his disciples, of the shepherd and his sheep. Now, in this story
and the spies that were sent out into the land, the rest of
the spies, besides Joshua and Caleb, they came back and discomforted
or bothered the people. All they could see were the problems.
They said there were giants in the land. You and I discussed
this the other day, John. The giants in the land, oh, they're
too big. We're like grasshoppers. We'll
never defeat these men. Oh, let's turn around." And they
wanted to make him a captain and go back. Look at Numbers
14, verse 1. All the congregation, after they
heard the report from these evil spies, after they heard their
evil report, They are discomforting words. That sounds familiar this
day, doesn't it? They are discomforting words,
no words of peace, no words of comfort, nothing mentioning God's
promise. Didn't he mention the word of
God? Didn't he mention it? And all the congregation lifted
up their voice and cried, and the people wept that night. And
all the children of Israel murmured against Moses, against their
sovereign ruler. and against Aaron their priest."
That's so typical, isn't it? And the whole congregation said
unto them, Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt,
or would God we had died in this wilderness, and wherefore hath
the Lord brought us into this land to fall by the sword, that
our wives and our children should be a prey? Remember that verse
there. Our wives and our children should
be a prey? It would be better if we would return unto Egypt,
and they said one to another, Let's make a captain and go back
to Egypt. And then Moses and Aaron fell
on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation
of the children of Israel. And Joshua, the son of Nun, and
Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, which were of them that searched
the land, ripped their clothes." Do you notice how they're mentioned
together here, Joshua and Caleb? You'll see this several times.
Nearly every time that Joshua's mentioned, Caleb's mentioned
with him in this book. Joshua and Caleb, they were the
only ones that remained faithful to Moses. And even so, Christ
is the only one faithful to the Father, and his people in him
are faithful. And Christ, like Joshua and Caleb
are mentioned together, Christ and his people are one, are one
together. He's the head, we're the body.
He's the husband, we're the wife. Well, look at what they said
to the people, Joshua and the message of Joshua and Caleb.
This is good. And they spake in unison, I guess. It doesn't
say which one said it. Well, verse 7, they spake unto
all the company of the children of Israel, saying, The land which
we pass through to search it. It's a good land. It's an exceeding
good land. They had nothing but good news,
didn't they? Good news. Don't cry. Don't be worried. This land's
a good land, would Christ say. In my Father's house are many
mansions. If it were not so, I would have told you. God's
promised to give you the land. It's a good land. Look at verse
8. This is good. If the Lord delight in us, Then
he'll bring us into this land and give it us, a land which
floweth with milk and honey. And if God delights in and accepts
Christ, he'll bring us to the land, won't he? If he delights
in and accepts Christ, he delights in and accepts me. We're one,
you see. What's his is mine. That's what
Christ said there in John 17. What's mine is his. We're joint
heirs, you see. Joint heirs. But look at verse
9. Only rebel not ye against the Lord, neither fearing ye
the people of the land." They're just bread for us, and their
defense is departed from them. And the Lord is with us, you
see. God's with us. Fear them not. Christ said, in the world you
shall have tribulation. giant problems. There are giants
in the land, mountainous problems. If you had faces of grain and
mustard seed, you could say to that mountain, get out of my
way. There are giant problems, Christ said, in this world, but
be of good cheer. I've overcome the world, Christ
said. Why? Because the God of glory
is with him, you see, and he's with us, too, when we're in Christ. John 17, Christ said—I'll not
turn there, I've got it written down here. John 17, 23, Christ
said, I in them, and God in me, that they may be made perfect,
or strong and mature believers, and that the world may know that
God sent me and has loved them as he's loved me." God's with
us. Don't fear them. Fear not men's
faces. Isaiah said, Who are you to fear
a man as a worm that's going to perish? But, look at verse
10, but all the congregation, they'd stone them with stones. Didn't they? They just gave,
they'd just given the promises of God, they were just given
the Word of God, weren't they? The people didn't want that.
Not good enough, was it? Isn't that today? Not good enough.
You let a man stand up and dare just to proclaim the Word of
God as it is. Christ said, they hated me, they'll
hate you. And the time will come when they'll
think they're doing God a favor when they kill you. get rid of
you, didn't it? You let one of God's people,
man or woman, boldly proclaim the Word, just the Word alone. Just read the Word, Henry, you've
done it. And they get angry, don't they?
They'd gnash their teeth. If it was lawful to stone, they'd
pick up stones and stone them. Look at this, verse 10. Well,
when they started to get stones and stone them, it says, "...the
glory of the Lord appeared in the tabernacle." When Christ
was hung on that cross, a figurative stoning by the people, the glory
of the Lord appeared in the tabernacle. That veil was rent from top to
bottom. Well, Christ said, I have given
them thy word, and the world hath hated them. The world has
hated them. Look at chapter 14, number 14.
Look over here at verse 26. Verse 26. I'm wrapping this thing
up. Verse 26, And the Lord spake
unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, How long shall I bear with this
evil congregation which murmur against me? I have to ask that
question all the time, don't you, today? How long is the Lord
going to bear with this world which murmurs against me? I have
heard the murmurings of the children of Israel which they murmur against
me. Say unto them, As truly as I live, as you have spoken in
my ears, so will I do to you. Your carcasses shall fall in
the wilderness, and all that were numbered of you, according
to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, which have
murmured against me, twenty and up. Doubtless you shall not come
into the land concerning which I swear to make you dwell therein,
save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun. Those
are the only ones, but your little ones, your little ones What you
said should be a prey, them will I bring in. Not many wise men
after the flesh are called, not many mighty, not many noble.
Christ said, Suffer the little ones to come unto me. God's chosen
the foolish things, base things, weak things, hasn't he? Ah boy,
Joshua and Caleb and some little children, those are the only
ones, they shall know the land which you have despised, and
this land and this gospel that this world despised, you people
are going to know it. You do know it. You experience
it right now. Look at verse 36. And the men
which Moses sent to search the land who returned, these so-called
prophets, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, were bringing
up a slander upon the land. Even those men that did bring
up the evil report, they died by the plague before the Lord.
But Joshua, the son of Nun, and Caleb, the son of Jephunneh,
has to distinguish them, which were of the men. Look at it. that went to search the land,
they were in the midst of them, but they were chosen among them.
Joshua and Caleb, they lived still." They're still living.
They're still living, it says. They lived still forever. Well,
let me close my reading out of the book of Joshua. Turn over
to Joshua. It's right after the book of Deuteronomy. Turn over to the book of Joshua,
and let me read a few verses here, and then we'll close. Joshua chapter 1. Joshua chapter 1. Look at this.
Verse 1. Beginning with verse 1. Well,
look up at Deuteronomy 34 and 9. Just a few verses up there.
Verse 9 of Deuteronomy 34. And Joshua, Moses had died. He was 120 years old when he
died. And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom,
for Moses had laid his hands upon him, and the children of
Israel hearkened unto him, and did as the Lord commanded Moses."
Whatever Moses said, Joshua said, and the people hearkened. So
look at verse 1 of chapter 1 of Joshua. Now, after the death
of Moses, the servant of the Lord, it came to pass that the
Lord spake unto Joshua. That reminds me of Hebrews 1,
doesn't it, Terry? God, who in sundry times and
diverse manners spoke unto us the latter day by the prophets,
has indeed last day spoken unto us by his Son. Well, he spoke
to Joshua, the son of none. He always distinguishes him here.
That's significant. Moses, his minister, saying,
and this is what the Lord said to Joshua, Moses, my servant,
is dead. Now, therefore, arise and go
over this Jordan. Christ arose, didn't he? And
went over there. Thou and all this people unto
the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel.
Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that's
what I have given unto you. Everything. God's put all things
under his feet, under Christ's feet. Every place, just like
I said unto Moses, just like he said he'd do from the beginning.
Verse 4, From the wilderness, and this Lebanon, even unto the
great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites,
their enemies," God made Christ's enemies His footstool, didn't
He? "...and unto the great sea, toward the going down of the
sun shall be your coast. There shall not any man be able
to stand before thee all the days of thy life. As I was with
Moses, so I will be with thee." I will not fail thee nor forsake
thee. Be strong and of good courage, for unto this people shalt thou
divide for inheritance the land." And my margin says that, "...thou
shalt cause this people to inherit the land." Joshua, Savior, he's
the one, because of him, the people inherited the land, which
I swear unto their fathers, I said from the beginning. Verse 7,
"...so only be thou strong and very courageous." that thou mayest
observe to do according to all the law." Christ did, didn't
he? He fulfilled every judgment, didn't he? "...which Moses my
servant commanded thee, turn not from it to the right hand
or to the left, that you may prosper." And it did. The work of God prospered in
his hand, didn't it? In Christ's hand. Whithersoever
he went. And this book, verse 8, "...the
book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth." Christ is
the Word, isn't he? The incarnate Word. But thou
shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe
to do according to all that is written therein. For then thou
shalt make thy way prosperous, thy way, Christ the way. And then thou shalt have good
success. Had not I commanded thee, heaven
I sent thee, be strong and of good courage. Be not afraid,
neither be thou dismayed, for the Lord thy God is with thee,
whithersoever thou goest." A couple more verses. Look over Joshua
3. I could have gone on and on with this, but look at this.
Joshua 3, verse 7. And the Lord said unto Joshua,
Now this day will I begin to magnify thee in the sight of
all Israel, that they may know that as I was with Moses, so
I will be with thee. And this is where Joshua led
the people into the promised land and went over Jordan. And
the people that were carried, the priests that he—well, look
at this, chapter 4. Look at chapter 4. Look at this, chapter 4. God said to Joshua here in chapter
4, verse 2, he said, Now take you twelve men, choose you out
twelve men, and put this ark on them. Put this ark on their back. And
there was another time when he said they put stones on their
shoulders, a burden on their shoulders to carry into the land
with them. And he says in verse three, and
command them, give them commandment. What did we just read in Luke
24? I'm sending you out with the
gospel. Go ye in all the world with the gospel. He chose twelve
men, didn't he? Twelve men. And they went out with that gospel.
Christ gave his apostles the burden of the gospel. put it
on their shoulders, and look at verse 14. And after they finally
got over the promised land, the waters parted just like the Red
Sea when that ark hit the water, and they crossed over. And all
the people were over the water into the promised land, verse
14. And on that day, it says, the Lord magnified Joshua in
the sight of all Israel. And they feared him as they feared
Moses all the days of his life. Oh, Charlie would have liked
that, wouldn't he? And you know what? I bet he's hearing it right
now. I bet he's hearing Joshua himself
preach it. I bet he is. And a whole lot
better than I ever hoped to. Joshua, Jesus Christ the Lord. Well, I hope that's a blessing
to you. Stand with me in all this business and prayer. Thank you very much.
