Alright, thank you for that.
Let's go to the book of Matthew this evening. At least this is
where I want to begin, Matthew chapter 16. And with your indulgence,
I'm going to have to get rid of this jacket. In fact, a couple
of these brethren are wearing jackets still, but you get up
here under these lights, it's hot. I'm kind of washed out on the
camera now. No, not too bad? Oh, that's good. Okay. Here's my subject this evening. It's when Christ died. And then
I want to ask this question. Who was there? Who was there
when Christ died? Let me start this way. Our Lord,
when He entered into this world, He was not received with open
arms. It says in the book of John chapter
1, He came unto His own. His own world, He made it. His own nation, He is of the
lineage of David. He came to his own family. He came unto his own and his
own received him not. If we didn't know about man's
sinfulness, if we hadn't been made acquainted with the doctrine
of our depravity, that would just shock us. After all, God's Son is set forth
in the Old Testament in picture, in figure. His coming is predicted,
prophesied, and promised. And the Jews, they should have
been looking for Him. Because all of the prophets said,
He shall come. Our Lord came into the world
and He began His public ministry when He was 30 years old and
it became obvious pretty quick that the religious world was
very much opposed to Him. As you will remember in Luke
chapter 4, our Lord was in Galilee up in the Northern Territory. And he went there and he began
to preach in the synagogue. He set forth divine sovereignty
and it says they thrust him out of the city. We don't want you
here. And then they led him up to the
brow of the city And they wanted to murder him. And he escaped
from them. We studied last Wednesday in
John chapter 5 after our Lord had healed that man who had been
lame for 38 years. And he did it on the Sabbath
day that the Jews were very much upset with him. because he performed
that miracle on the Sabbath day and then he said, my father worketh
hitherto and I work. And then they were really ready
to kill him then because when he said God was his father, they
knew he was saying he's equal with God. Over in John chapter 8, our Lord
was speaking with Pharisees They said, Abraham's our father. He said, well, if you were the
children of Abraham, you'd do the works of Abraham. And then he said, before Abraham
was, I am. That title that was given to
the Lord. The Lord gave that title to Himself
back in the book of Exodus when He appeared to Moses in the burning
bush. And Moses said, well, when I
go to Israel and I tell them who sent me, God said, you tell
them I am that I am that sent you. And over in John 8, our
Lord says before Abraham was, I am. I am the great I am. Not
I was, not I will be, but I am. I am the everlasting God. Well, they took up stones to
stone Him. They were ready to put Him out
of business. They were ready to kill Him. John chapter number 10, our Lord
said He is the shepherd of the sheep. He said He has His sheep.
He said, I know My sheep. My sheep know Me. He said, I
lay down My life for the sheep. That is substitution. That's
how he saved his sheep. He laid down his life for the
sheep. He said, my sheep, they're going to hear my voice because
I know them. I love them. They're going to hear me. They'll
come to me and I'll take care of them. I'll save them forever.
And he said then, he said, I and the Father are one. Then they
took up stones to stone him again. And he said to them, for which
of my good works do you stone me? They said, we don't stone
you because of your good works. We stone you because you are
a man and you say that you're God. That's why we stone you. Once again, he slipped away.
There are several occasions in the Bible, in the New Testament,
where he slipped away from them. And there are also several occasions
in the New Testament in these gospel narratives, Matthew, Mark,
Luke, and John, where our Lord said to his disciples that he
had to die. He had to be killed. He had to
go to Jerusalem. He had to suffer all of these
things. He had to do it, as I've said
so many times, so that God could be just and justify the ungodly. Right here in this passage in
Matthew chapter number 16, it says in verse 13, when Jesus
came into the coast of Caesarea Philippi, Matthew 16, 13, He
asked his disciples, saying, Who do men say that I, the Son
of Man, am? And they said, Well, some say
thou art John the Baptist, and some Elias, or Elijah, and others,
they say you're Jeremias, or Jeremiah the prophet, or one
of the prophets. And he saith unto them, But whom
say ye that I am? Then Simon Peter answered and
he said, Thou art the Christ. Thou art the Christ, the Son
of the living God. That's not the first time Simon
Peter has made that confession. He said the same thing in John
chapter 6. Our Lord had given forth some
doctrine that Many of His disciples, the word disciples means students
or pupils. We know there were twelve apostles,
but He had many disciples. A lot of times we'll say the
twelve disciples, and that's okay, as long as we understand
we're talking about those twelve men that He chose. But really,
there were just twelve apostles, and He had many disciples. That
means students or pupils, people who sat at His feet to learn.
He set forth in John chapter 6, He set forth the doctrine
of the election. He said, All that the Father
giveth Me shall come to Me, and him that cometh to Me I'll in
no wise cast out. He said, I came to the world
not to do My own will, but the will of Him that sent Me. Here's
the will of Him that sent Me, that of all that He's given Me,
I should lose nothing. But I won't raise Him up the
last day. He went on and spoke about the
fact that that no man can come to the Father except the Father
draw him. He said, no man can come to me
except the Father which has sent me draw him and I'll raise him
up the last day. So he talked about the impossibility
of any man approaching to him in faith, no man is going to
believe him until God the Father draws him. Thank God for effectual
grace. Thank God for that drawing grace
that brings us to the Lord Jesus Christ. And he talked about the
fact, he said, I am the bread of life. He that believeth on
me is never going to die. He said, except you eat my flesh
and drink my blood, you don't have everlasting life. What's
he talking about? Faith. Except you believe me. Well,
it offended a lot of people. And multitudes went away and
he didn't try to keep them. He didn't say, could I kind of
change my message so you folks will stick around? No, they just
left and he let them go. They found the preaching of the
gospel offensive. He was direct with them. He was
honest with them. He gave them the Word of God.
And these things offended them and they left by the droves. And he looked at those apostles
and he said, now, will you also go away? And that's when Simon Peter said,
he answered and said, Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the
words of eternal life, and we believe, we're sure that Thou
art the Christ, the Son of the living God. So over here in Matthew
16, that's not the first time He made this great confession.
He's made it before back over in John chapter 6, earlier in
His ministry. Let's read on. Verse 17, Jesus
answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, you're blessed, you're
a highly favored of God. Simon son of Jonah, for flesh
and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which
is in heaven, my Father revealed it to you." I know we live in
the day of religious decisionism. Make your decision for Jesus.
But we've got to emphasize this, the necessity of revelation. God's got to show us the truth.
God's got to take the scales off our eyes so we can see. God's
got to take the spiritual wax out of our ears so we can hear.
I'll tell you what He's got to do. He's got to give us a new
heart. He's got to take away the old heart of... Heart is a rock. And He's got
to give us a heart of flesh. He's got to reveal truth to us. Nobody else can reveal truth
to you. We can tell you the truth. We
can tell you who is the truth. We can say to you, the Lord Jesus,
He's the way to God, He's the life of God, He's the very truth
of God. But the only one who can reveal
the Lord Jesus to you is the Lord Jesus Himself. He's got
to make Himself known to us. And so, Simon is blessed of God. The Lord said, flesh and blood
didn't reveal it to you, My Father revealed this to you. And He
said, and I say unto thee, thou art Peter. And upon this rock,
the rock, what is this rock? That He's God. That He's the
Son of God. Being the Son of God, He is capable
of, and He will indeed fulfill and work out the salvation of
His people. He's the rock. And I'll build my church, he
says, on this rock of what you just said. That I am the Son
of God, I am the Christ. I'll build my church on the rock. I tell you, God's church is built
on the same one that we build on. My hope is built on nothing
less than Jesus' blood and righteousness. On Christ the solid rock I stand. Everything is built on Christ.
If you build anywhere else, you are building on sinking sand.
And our Lord Himself, He is building His church on the rock. The rock. And He said, the gates of hell
shall not prevail against you. Notice what he says in 19, I'll
give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven. What do keys
do? Well, they open that which is
locked up. And then they lock up something
when it's closed. God gave to His apostles the
abilities to make known the mysteries of the gospel, the mysteries
of the kingdom. And even today, God to a degree
has given keys to His servants. And we unlock for the congregation,
we unlock for you things that are hidden from you, behind a
closed door. God uses His preachers to unlock
these doors and reveal things to you, show things to you that
you wouldn't have known apart from the preaching of the gospel
by the power of the Holy Ghost. We're talking about keys. You listen to God's preachers.
They'll tell you how God can be just and justify the ungodly. They'll unlock that mystery for
you. They'll tell you how He that's
born of a woman how you can be clean through the blood of the
Lord Jesus Christ. You listen to God's preachers.
He'll unlock this mystery of why Christ came into the world. He came to save sinners like
us. That's what keys are used for.
And also keys are not only used to open things, but they're used
to lock the door and keep things out. God gives His preachers
keys to lock the door to keep error out. Keep error out. We don't want error. We don't
want that which is not God's truth. So we lock the door. Oh may God lock the door as it
were to this building and to this congregation to keep error
out there. I know error is out there. I
don't want it in here. And you don't want it in here
either. The keys are used to open up. They are used to lock
up, keep closed. He said, Whatsoever thou shalt
bind on earth shall be bound in heaven. Whatsoever thou shalt
loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. That's apostolic authority. Then He charged His disciples
that they should tell no man that He was Jesus the Christ. Ever wondered why He told people
that? You'd think he'd want them to
be good witnesses and go out and say, tell everybody I'm the
Christ. But you read so often that he
said, don't tell anybody. Don't tell anybody. Why not? Well, for one thing, it irritates
Rome. It haunts them to get in an uproar. They hear the king of the Jews
has come. and they'll move against Him.
This isn't the time for them, for the enemies to move against
Him. This is not the time of His death. His hour had not yet
come. All of this has been arranged.
It had all been determined in the council of peace. And then
also because the Jewish people themselves, they're looking for
a literal Savior. That is a Savior who would save
them politically. That's what they're looking for.
They're looking for a political messiah. They don't like Rome. They don't like the Gentiles.
They don't like having to give tribute money to those awful
Romans. And they're looking for, they're
hoping Messiah will come and He will again sit on the throne
of David and run all those rascals all the way to Rome, get rid
of them totally and reinstate the glory days of David and Solomon. That's what they want. So He said, don't tell them that
I'm the Christ. Not yet. Not yet. But when the time was right,
He sent them out to tell them. That message. Now look at verse
21. Now from that time forth, Jesus
began to show unto His disciples. What does the word show mean?
To manifest. To reveal. To unveil. Unto His disciples. Unto His
students. Unto His pupils. Now that He
must go to Jerusalem, He must suffer many things of the elders
and the chief priests and the scribes. That's the Sanhedrin. That's the highest judicial court
in all the land of Israel. He must be killed and he must
be raised again the third day. These things, he said, they must
happen. They must happen. And I'll just
read this because then I've got to move on. Then Peter took him
aside. Can you believe this? And began
to rebuke him. Began to rebuke the master. Our Lord said, these things must
be and I can just see Simon Peter putting his arm around and said,
could I talk with you over here for just a couple of minutes?
He pulled him off to the side and he said, be it far from thee
Lord, this will never be. And by the way, and I love studying
words, be it far, if you look it up, you know what it is? Merciful
or propitious. What he is saying is be merciful
to yourself. Be a propitiatory to yourself. Be a mercy seat to yourself.
Don't go and die. Show mercy on yourself. But here's
what Peter didn't understand. If he shows mercy to himself,
he can't show mercy to us. If he doesn't die, we can't live. If he's going to be the propitiation
for our sins, he's got to die. He can't have a propitiation
for him. He's got to be the propitiation
himself. He's got to satisfy divine justice. Be it far from thee, Lord. Be
a mercy seat to yourself. Show yourself mercy. And then
he says, This shall not be unto thee. But our Lord turned and
he said unto Peter, Oh, and this is a scathing rebuke. He said, Get thee behind me,
Satan. Thou art an offense unto me. You are a stumbling block to
me. That's what he's saying. You are a stumbling block to
me. For thou savorest not the things that be of God, but those
that be of men. You don't understand, Simon Peter. You don't understand. You don't
realize what's going on here. You don't know what's at stake.
The glory of God, your own salvation is at stake. Get behind me. You're acting like the evil one
now. He must die. And I know there were lots of
attacks on his life, lots of efforts were made to kill him,
but go to Luke chapter 23. Finally, the time came for him
to die. all according to God's determinate
counsel and will. The hour arrived. He said so
often, the hour has not come. John chapter 12, he said the
hour has come. The hour has come. And here in
Luke chapter 23, and I'll read just a couple of verses to you,
in Luke chapter 23, verses 32 and 33. Luke 23, 32 and 33. And there were also two other
malefactors led with Him to be put to death. Scripture says
He was numbered with the transgressors. And when they were come to the
place which is called Calvary, They crucified Him. The malefactors,
they were crucified too. One on the right hand, the other
on the left. Jesus Christ was crucified. They had been out to get Him
throughout His public ministry. He didn't allow it. Because it
wasn't time for Him to die. It wasn't time for Him to pay
our debt. But in due time, that's when
He died. In due time. And they crucified Him on Golgotha's
brow. It is a well-known and established
fact that Jesus of Nazareth 2000 years ago was crucified outside
the walls of Jerusalem. This was an event attested to
and witnessed by many people. There were multitudes of eyewitnesses
of his crucifixion. Who was there when Jesus died? Can I list the ones that were
there for you? Number one, There were many devoted
believing women who were there. There noted up in verse 27, there
followed him a great company of people and of women, which also bewailed and lamented
him. Look down at verse 49. This is
after he died. And all his acquaintance And
the women that followed him from Galilee, they stood afar off
beholding these things. They saw what happened. They
were there that day. They know. They know. There were multitudes of people
who were there. You remember what the Apostle
Paul said over there in the book of Acts? He said to one of the
governors, who was it, Agrippa or somebody, Felix or one of
them, I forget now which, but he said, these things weren't
done in a corner. This wasn't done in secret. There
were a lot of people there. A lot of people saw him die.
These devoted, believing women were there. I'll tell you somebody
else who was there. John was there. John the Apostle. He was there. In John chapter
19, when Jesus therefore saw His mother and the disciple whom
He loved, our Lord is hanging on the cross, He saw His mother,
He saw the disciple whom He loved, that is John the Apostle, He
saith unto His mother, Woman, behold thy son. He didn't call
her mother then, He said woman. Woman. She was a woman He was
dying to save. Mary was not the mother of our
Lord's divinity. She was the mother of our Lord's
humanity. He goes to the cross to die for
the sins of all of His people, and amongst all of His people,
Mary is one of them. Mary is one whose name was written
down in the Lamb's Book of Life before the world began. And He
says to her, Behold thy son. Then saith he to the disciple,
Behold thy mother. And from that hour that disciple
took her unto his own house. Where were the other disciples?
Where were the other apostles? Well, Peter had denied the Lord
three times. And I don't know where the rest
of them were, You know it says in the book of Zechariah, smite
the shepherd, the sheep shall be what? Scattered. They scattered. But John was there. He never even referred to himself
in the book by name. He just says that disciple whom
Jesus loved. He didn't even say that disciple
that loved Jesus. I tell you, our love is not even
worth talking about. Our love is not even worth mentioning.
Oh, but His love, His love, everlasting love, an infinite love, an unending
love, a love that led Him to die, to lay down His life to
save us, this is love indeed! Having loved His own, He loved
them all the way to the end, is what the Scripture says. I'll tell you somebody else who
was there, Simon of Cyrene was there. He had carried the cross. He knows that he died. I'll tell
you two other men who were there, two thieves who died that day. Look right here in chapter 23
of Luke, verse 39. And one of the malefactors which
were hanged, that is suspended on the cross, railed on him. And at first, both of them railed
on Him. And this one said, If thou be
the Christ, save thyself and us. When it says railed on Him,
that means blasphemed Him and ridiculed Him. Made fun of Him. Mocked Him. But the other answering
rebuked Him, saying, Does not thou fear God, seeing thou art
in the same condemnation? You're going to die. You're going
to die. Here's a man facing death. The
only one who can help him, the only one who can save him, the
only one who can rescue him, the only one who can show him
mercy, the only one in whom he could be accepted by the Father
is hanging right beside of him. He railed on him. That's human
nature. That's our depravity. Rail on
him right up to your last breath. Just rail on him. But the other
one, an object of grace. Oh, sweet grace. Grace that was
given to Him in Christ Jesus from before the world was made.
Electing grace and His redeeming grace. In fact, preserving grace
has followed Him all the days of His life. Every breath that
He took, every time He blasphemed the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
grace was there preserving Him. This is one of the Lord's little
ones here. Here's one of His sheep. He can't perish. He said, don't you fear God?
Seeing you're in the same condemnation. And we indeed justly, we're getting
what we deserve. For we receive the due reward
of our deeds. But this man, oh what a man!
This man! He's done nothing amiss. He never
did anything amiss. He is the spotless Lamb of God. And He said unto Jesus, Lord,
what the Apostle Paul says in the book of 1 Corinthians, no
man can call Jesus Lord except by the Holy Ghost. Oh, He meant
it. Lord, remember me. Remember me when you come into
your kingdom. I believe you got a kingdom.
I don't believe this is the end for you. You got a kingdom, and
when you come into that kingdom, would you remember me? And Jesus
said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with
me in paradise. You know what the word paradise
means? A walled garden. That's what heaven is. It's a
walled garden. We're surrounded by the walls
of salvation in that garden of delight, in that garden more
glorious than Eden's garden. It's a garden of God. And the
Lord says, you'll be with me in that walled garden. So here
are two other men who, they saw Him die. The multitudes that
passed by, they saw Him. I'll just read this to you from
Matthew 27, 39 and 40. Well, in fact, I'll let you look
at it with me. Look at Matthew chapter 27, verse 39. Matthew
27, look at verse 39. They that pass by reviled Him,
wagging their heads and saying, Thou that destroyest
the temple and buildest it in three days, save Thyself. If
Thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross. They that
pass by walking down the road, going to their destination, whatever
it was, going to the grocery store, going out of town to visit
relatives. They passed by and they saw these
three men hanging on these crosses. And over the cross of one of
them, it says, Jesus, King of the Jews. And they reviled him. wagging
their heads. You destroyed the temple? Raise
it up in three days. Save yourself. Save yourself. I tell you somebody else who
was there, the chief priests and rulers and scribes, that
is the Sanhedrin, They were there. Look at verse 41. Likewise, also
the chief priest mocking him with the scribes and elders said,
he saved others, himself he cannot save. And in that they did speak
the truth. If he's going to save others,
he can't save himself. He can't do that. It says, if
He be the King of Israel, let Him come down from the cross,
and we will believe Him. No, they wouldn't. No, they wouldn't. It's like Abraham said to that
rich man in hell in Luke, was it Luke chapter 16? When the
rich man said, send Lazarus back to preach to my five brothers,
I want them to come down here. Abraham said they wouldn't believe
though one rose from the dead and come back and preach to them.
You know what he said? They've got Moses and the prophets.
They've got the Word of God. That's what they've got. They've
got the Word of God. He saved others. Himself He cannot
save. If He saves Himself, if He spares
Himself, if He does come down from that cross, He can't save
anybody else. But oh, He's not going to come
down. Because He set His face like a flint for that cross even
from old eternity. He is pointing to that cross.
Always walking toward the cross. Always going toward Calvary to
pay our debt. I tell you somebody else who
was there, the Roman soldiers were there while they crucified
Him. They nailed the nails into His
hands. into His feet, they'd put the
crown of thorns on His brow, they'd beat Him, and they sat down and watched
Him. That's what the Scripture says, sitting down they watched
Him there. And then one of them dipped some
hyssop in some vinegar, and said, you want some of this? He refused
it, because that would dull the pain a little bit. He said, no. He wouldn't drink it. He's not
going to dull the pain. He's going to endure all of the
wrath of God for His appointed people, for His chosen people,
and He will feel it to its fullest. All of the divine vengeance.
When our sins were made to be His sins, when our blemished
record, our record of guilt and iniquity, when it was charged
to Him, when that was put on His account, He had to endure
the wrath of God. He said, no, not even physically
will I dull the pain. And He felt the pain physically
and He felt it in His soul because God laid stripes on His soul. soul suffering. That was the
soul of his sufferings anyway. Those soldiers were there then
right at the end when he said, I thirst that the scriptures
might be fulfilled. They gave him some vinegar and
he drank it. The soldiers were there. Those
Jewish leaders, they ran to Pilate and they said, you know, We got the Sabbath coming up
tomorrow. We got to go to church. And it's
the day of preparation right now, and it's getting toward
the evening. Won't you give orders, oh, Mr. Pilate, Governor Pilate, would
you give orders to break the legs of those three men so that
they can't hold themselves up? They'll suffocate. They'll die.
So the soldiers go out there, and they broke the legs of one
of the thieves and then broke the legs of the other thief and
then they came to the Lord Jesus. He had already bowed his head
and gave up the ghost. Because he said, it's finished. Into thy hand I commend my spirit. You see, he willingly died. He laid down his life. He said,
nobody is going to take my life from me. Well, you can't take
life from the Son of God. He said, I have the power to
lay it down, then I have the power to take it again. And then
the time came on the cross for Him to lay down His life. He
laid it down. And there He is dead. The thieves
said, well, no use to break His legs, that the Scriptures might
be fulfilled, not a bone of Him shall be broken. But one of them
said, I am going to take my spear and ram it in his side. And out
came blood and water to wash us, cleanse us. The soldiers were there. The
centurion was there. Yes sir, he was there. That was
the Roman officer who had authority over a hundred soldiers. In fact,
all three of the synoptic Gospels, the synoptic Gospels being Matthew,
Mark, and Luke, because They have a lot in common. Synonymous,
we get that from synoptic gospel writers. They all wrote about
this Roman officer, this centurion. Luke says, and go back to Luke
chapter 23. Luke 23, look at verse 46. Luke 23, verse 46, And when Jesus
had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands
I commend, I release my spirit. And having said thus, he gave
up the ghost. Now when the centurion saw what
was done, he's the man in charge. He's the man barking out the
orders. He's the one who said, nail him to the cross. He's the
one who had said before that, put the crown of thorns on. Everything
Pilate told him to do, he's carried out. He's telling his men what
to do. Now when this old centurion,
crusty old guy, I kind of imagine in my mind, I mean, nothing can
move him. He's executed many men, I'm sure,
during his lifetime. He has risen now to the office
of centurion. He has indeed climbed the ladder
of success. When he saw what was done, he
glorified God saying, certainly this was a righteous man. You
are right about that. He is the Lord our righteousness.
That is who He is. He is a righteous man. There
is none righteous, no not one. That is what we read in Romans
chapter 3. But this centurion, listen to what he says, and it
is forever part of God's record. This was a righteous man. A righteous
man. And it's interesting that Matthew
and Mark write of this same centurion, so he said something else as
well. They record him as saying, truly,
this was the Son of God. The Son of God. I'll tell you
somebody else who was there. The Trinity was there. The Father
was there. Because it says it pleased the
Lord to bruise him. You know who is pouring out His
wrath on His Son? The Father. In fulfillment of
the covenant of grace. It was all ordained in the covenant
of grace. Christ had to die and the Father
is there. He is exacting from the Savior
that redemption price. And it satisfied Him. It satisfied
Him. The Son of God was there. There
He is dying. He died for our sins according
to the Scriptures. Suffering divine vengeance. God
the Spirit was there strengthening Him and sustaining the humanity
of our Savior as He bore God's infinite wrath. I'll tell you
somebody else who was there. Satan was there too. Oh yeah. Because it was at the cross that
the Savior dealt the fatal blow to Satan in fulfillment of Genesis
3.15, He shall bruise thy head. The Lord was speaking to Satan.
Of the seed of the woman, He shall bruise thy head. In John chapter 12, our Lord
said, now is the prince of this world cast out. In Revelation chapter 20 verse
1, John said, I saw an angel, that's the messenger of the covenant.
I saw him come down from heaven having the key of the bottomless
pit and a great chain in his hand. What's he going to do? He laid hold of that old dragon. That old serpent, which is the
devil and Satan. And he bound him. That's what
he did. He bound him. When did that happen?
At the cross. That's when he bound him. He had a chain in his hand. And I tell you, Satan, I know
he's a roaring lion. He goes about seeking whom he
may devour. But he's got a chain around his
neck. And I tell you, there's a mighty
hand that's got hold of that chain. It's the Son of God. When our Lord was crucified,
the words of Revelation 12 verse 9 were fulfilled. The great dragon
was cast out, that old serpent called the devil and Satan, which
deceived the whole world. He is cast out into the earth
and his angels were cast out with him. And that's when John
heard a loud voice in heaven saying, Now has come salvation! Now! When is the now? At the cross when Jesus died.
Now has come salvation and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and
the power of His Christ. For the accuser of the brethren,
he is cast down. Who accuse the brethren day and
night. I'll tell you somebody else who
was there. This is the last one I'm going to give you. God's
elect were there. Were you there when they crucified
my Lord? Were you there when they crucified
my Lord? Oh, sometimes it causes me to
tremble, to tremble. Were you there when they crucified
my Lord? Were you there when they nailed
Him to the cross? Were you there when they nailed
Him to the cross? Oh, sometimes it makes me to
tremble. Were you there when they nailed
Him to the cross? Were you there when they laid
Him in the tomb? Were you there when they laid
Him in the tomb? Oh, sometimes it causes me to
tremble! Were you there when they laid
Him in the tomb? Were you there when He rose up
from the dead? Were you there when He rose up
from the dead? Oh, sometimes it causes me to
tremble. Were you there when He rose up
from the dead? Were you there when He ascended
back to heaven? Were you there when He ascended
back to heaven? Oh, sometimes it causes me to
tremble. Were you there when He ascended
back to heaven? Are you there? now that He is
in heaven seated at the right hand of God. And all of God's
people can say, yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! I was there when He was crucified.
I was there when He was nailed. I was there when He died. I was
there when He was buried. I was there when He arose again.
I was there when He ascended. And my Lord is in heaven and
I'm with Him there right now. Oh yeah. We were there. We were
there in union with Him. Because we've been in union with
Him forever. Forever. Oh, what a Savior. Oh, what a
Savior. Let's sing a closing hymn. One
day we're going to see Him face to face.
