Gary Spreacker May, 30 2021

The sermon by Gary Spreacker titled "Christ is All" centers on the foundational Reformed doctrine of the sufficiency and supremacy of Christ in all aspects of life and salvation, derived primarily from Colossians 3:11. Spreacker argues that Jesus Christ embodies everything believers need for life—salvation, wisdom, and righteousness—emphasizing His role as the Creator and Sustainer of all things as supported by passages from Colossians 1 and Romans 11. The central claim is that since Christ is all, believers should focus their affections on Him and live in a manner that reflects this truth, leading to practical implications in their daily lives and interactions with others. The significance of this doctrine is seen in its capacity to provide assurance of salvation and a framework for understanding one's identity and purpose as being rooted in Jesus Christ.

Good evening everyone Turn with me to the book of Colossians
to the book of Colossians tonight The book of Colossians chapter
3 Will begin with verse 1 Read
down to verse 17. But before we read, I wanna tell
you a few facts. Number one, I do not know all things. Ha ha,
isn't that true? But I know someone who does. He's Jesus Christ, my Lord. I'm certainly not anything, but
I know who is all things. Again, Jesus Christ the Lord. I do not have anything but what
is given to me, but I am in one who has everything. I do not own anything, but I
know the one who owns it all. My Lord, Jesus Christ. I can't do anything needed for
my salvation, but I know one who accomplished it. My Lord
and Savior, Jesus Christ. Colossians 3 verse 1. If you
then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above,
where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection
on things above and not on things of the earth. For ye are dead
and your life is hid with Christ in God. Don't you like that? Your life is hid. with in Christ,
with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life shall
appear, then shall we also appear with him in glory. Mortify therefore the members
which are upon the earth, fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection,
evil concupiscence, and covetousness which is idolatry. For which
thing's sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience? In the which ye also walked some
time when ye lived in them. But now ye also put off all these,
anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your
mouth, Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the
old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man, which is
renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him. Where there is neither Greek
nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, barbarian, Scythian, bond of
free, but notice these words, but Christ is all. And in all, Christ is all and
in all. Put on therefore as the elect
of God, holy and beloved vows of mercy, kindness, humbleness
of mind, meekness, long suffering, forbearing one another, forgiving
one another. If any man have a quarrel against
any, even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all
these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfect
perfectness. And let the peace of God rule
in your hearts, to the which also you're called in one body,
and be you thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell
in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one
another in psalms and hymns, spiritual songs, singing with
grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever you do in word
or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks
to God and the Father by him. There's some corollary passages
I'd like to read along with this. Go back to Romans chapter 11. Romans chapter 11. Romans chapter 11. Go toward
the end of the chapter, verse 33. Romans 11, verse 33. Oh, the depths of the riches,
both of the wisdom and knowledge of God, how unsearchable are
his judgments and his ways past finding out. For who hath known
the mind of the Lord, or who hath been his counselor, or who
hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto
him again. For of him, and through him,
and to him are all things. to whom be glory forever. Amen. And then also Ephesians
chapter four. Ephesians chapter four. Ephesians chapter four beginning
of verse one. Paul says, I therefore the prisoner
of the Lord beseech you that you walk worthy of the vocation
wherewith you are called, with all lowliness and meekness, with
long-suffering, forbearing one another in love, endeavoring
to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is
one body and one spirit, even as you are called in one hope
of your calling. One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
one God, Father of all, who is above all and through all and
in you all. Tonight I want to talk about
Christ is all. Christ is all. He is all things
to me. He's everything I ever needed. He is all things to me. He's
the one who gave me this wonderful salvation. He said it once it
was my salvation, then he said it was your salvation. God gave it to us. There's one
God of whom are all things. And this one God created everything. Everything. There was not one
thing that is not made, as James read a while ago, that he did
not make. And if he is the maker of all,
the creator of all, don't you know that he has power to do
with his creation whatever he wants. He can make a man a vessel of
honor, and he can also make a man a vessel of dishonor out of the
same lump of clay. He is the creator of all. Turn to Colossians again, chapter
one, Colossians chapter one. Colossians chapter one, go down
to verse 16. Speaking of Jesus Christ, for
by him were all things created that are in heaven and that are
in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones or dominions
or principalities or powers, all things were created by him
and for him. And he is before all things,
and by him all things consist. He created it, he created it
for himself, and he holds it all together by himself. That's the one we're talking
about. The Christ who is all, who is all things to me. When he says by him all things
consist, he's not only saying that he holds it together, but
that he's the sovereign of this universe. He is God and there
is none else. He is God and he's the only one
who can be our helper. Many a time haven't we run into
that haven of rest because God was there, because there was
help with my Lord, because He loved us so. All things that pertain to life
was given to Him. He owns it all, all things that
pertain to life. Not only all creation, but the
principalities and powers. Look in verse 18 as we were reading
there. Colossians 1, 18. And he is the
head of the body, the church, which is the beginning, the firstborn
from the dead, that in all things he might have the preeminence.
For it pleased the Father that in him should all fullness dwell. And having made peace through
the blood of the cross, by him to reconcile all things unto
himself, by him I say, whether they be things in earth or things
in heaven, he's going to reconcile it all to himself. John 18 tells the story of Jesus
after His prayer in the garden, they go out to the mount. Judas brings the soldiers out
to meet Christ and told them that he would be the one that
he would kiss. That would be the Christ. Well,
when they came up there, Jesus asked them, Whom seek ye? Jesus of Nazareth. I am. That's what he said. And they
fell backwards. Why did they fall backwards?
Because I am is the name of God. It's the one that God gave to
Moses. I am. And they fell backwards. And
when they finally got a hold of themselves and they got back
up, Jesus again asks, whom seek ye? Jesus of Nazareth. I am. I'm the one you seek. If you seek me, let these others
go. What a blessing. He'll take the
place. He lets the others go. And in that passage it says,
Jesus knowing all things. He knows everything. Before I was delivered, when I heard that Jesus knew
everything about me, that frightened me. There's a lot of things about
me I wouldn't want anyone to know, much less the God of this
universe. But we are open and naked before
his eyes. And he knows all things. He knows
everything about you. He knows everything about me.
This is the Christ who is all. He knows it all. He knows it all. And God has
put everything under his feet and appointed him to be heir
of all things. Our God is so high, so mighty,
so powerful. He's the high and lofty one that
inhabits eternity. When it comes to this creation,
he just spoke and it came into existence. Try that. He spoke it and there it was. He said, let there be light.
There was light. He spoke everything into existence. All things come into existence,
and when he spoke things into existence, it was all out of
nothing. There was nothing there to start with. Yes, there was. There was God. There was Jesus
Christ. There's the starting point of
creation. There's where we get it all.
And what does, where does that put me? I'm insignificant. I'm dust on
the balance. I'm less than nothing. All this
is in Isaiah 40. And when he looks into my heart,
what does he see? A heart that is deceitful above
all things and desperately wicked. And all things, as I said, are
naked and open before his eyes, and it's the Spirit that searches
all things for us. Remember the woman at the well? Our Lord must needs go through
Samaria. And he sat down at the well of
Jacob because the reason he had to go through Samaria was one
of his children was coming to meet him. She didn't know it,
but he did. And they talked for a little
bit, and she left her water pots. She ran back to the men of the
city and said, come see a man, is not this the Christ? Come
see a man who told me all things ever I did. And you know what? He only told her one thing. But
that one thing searched her heart from top to bottom. That's the God, Christ, who is
all. Come see a man, I'm asking you,
come see a man that told you everything I ever did. Is not
this the Christ, the Son of the Living God? Turn with me to 2
Samuel chapter 23. 2 Samuel chapter 23, a very familiar
portion of scripture. 2 Samuel 23. Christ is my all.
2 Samuel 23 verse 1. Now these
be the last words of David. David the son of Jesse said,
and the man who was raised up on high, the anointed of the
God of Jacob, and the sweet psalmist of Israel said, The Spirit of
the Lord spake by me, and his word was in my tongue. The God
of Israel said, The Rock of Israel spake to me. He that ruleth over
men must be just, ruling in the fear of God. And he shall be
as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning
without clouds, as the tender grass springing out of the earth
by clear shining after the rain. And David says, although my house
be not so with God, yet he hath made with me an everlasting covenant,
notice, ordered in all things. Now when we're talking about
all things, so far we've found that all things is Christ himself.
Ordered in all things, purposed, perfectly planned, In all things,
ordered in all things, for this is, and I love this phrase, for
this is all my salvation. It's all my salvation, what Jesus
Christ did for me. All things are in him. From the
election of the recipients of God's love, he gave these ones
to his son. His Son made Himself surety for
all those given, and by Himself accomplished their salvation. He finished it. And when He left
this earth to go back to glory, He sent His Spirit to effectually
save those that were given to Him. And He does it, again, by
His Word, the preaching of the Word of God. If you are one of those that
have been given to the Lord, let me show you a couple verses
here. Turn to Psalm 57. Psalm 57. Psalm 57, verse two. Verse two, I will cry unto God
most high, unto God that performeth all things for me. Wow. God performeth all things for
me. All his work, all that he did
is for his chosen, for his elect. He performeth all things for
me. We know the verse in Romans 8,
28, all things work together for good to them that love the
Lord who called according to his purpose. All things work
together. That's the Lord doing it. All
things is the Lord. He's doing all those things for
you and for me. Paul said it this way, all things
are for your sake. All things are for your sake. He has freely given us all things
and has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness. Some people worry about, am I
doing enough for the Lord? You can never do enough. You
can even start to do enough. He did it. And all that pertains
to life and Godliness, He did. He does. He's the one who works
in us both to will and to do of His own good pleasure. Because of what Christ has done
for His elect. He tells us, now with God, all
things are possible. I can do all things through Christ
which strengthens me. I can get up there and you have
the cancer, you're taking chemo, and you're weak as a kitten.
I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me. That's
my hope. That's what I have in Jesus Christ. I am justified from all things. And all things, I like this,
we read it, I think it was last week. All things are become new. It's all new. It's all new. Every day he renews. His faithfulness
is such that He renews mercy for us every day. And we give Him thanks for all things. We give Him thanks
for all things. I want you to, excuse me, I want
you to turn with me to one more passage. Luke chapter 14. Luke chapter 14. Says Jesus Christ
is all things. We're gonna read something here
that I think will be a blessing to you as it was to me. Luke
chapter 14, beginning at verse 12. Then said he, Jesus, also to
him that bade him, when thou makest a dinner or a supper,
call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen,
nor thy rich neighbors, lest they also bid thee again, and
recompense be made thee. But when thou makest a feast,
call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind, And thou shalt
be blessed, for they cannot recompense thee, for thou shalt be recompensed
at the resurrection of the just. And when one of them that sat
at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, blessed
is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God. Then said
Jesus unto him, a certain man made a great supper and bade
many. and sent his servant at supper
time to say to them that were bidden, notice these words, come
for all things are ready. Come, it's all ready. All things are ready for you
because of what Jesus Christ has done and who he is. He is all. Our Heavenly Father,
we thank You today for Your Word. Thank You for showing us again
Your greatness, Your power, Your care for us in all things. And thank You, Lord, that all
these things that come to pass in our lives work together for
good. to them that love God, who are
the called according to his purpose. Thank you, Lord, that you meet
with us, and by the power of your Spirit, you strengthen us. And Lord, we want to thank you
for the strength that you've given. Continue to help those
that are in need. Father, we pray for any who are
not saved that you would save such as should be saved here
at Lantana Grace Church. Bless your people and our people
who are traveling back to us. Give them safety as they travel.
We pray in Jesus' name. Amen. In the little green booklet,

sing it together. Jesus Christ is made to be all

It was. That's what Paul Mahan is saying
when you hear Christ is all. Christ is all. You need any help
getting back home? No, I'm fine. Because Janey and
I prepared to drive with you, ride with you, and one of us
bring the other car home. We're fine. Okay, we're prepared

I heard that. You be careful. You take care
of yourself. I love you. Love you, brother. Bless your
heart. It was really good. Take care
of yourself. I will. And I mean it too. Take care
of yourself. You gonna whoop me? We all will. Believe me. Jason told you. That's
right. You've done good. I know you're
weak as a kitten. Be careful going home, honey.
Thank you so much, we love you too.
