your Bibles with me to 2nd Samuel
chapter 7. 2nd Samuel chapter 7. And while
you're turning let me mention a couple prayer requests. I want
to remember Larry Chris. He's been in the hospital going
on three weeks and got some very bad problems with his legs but
something else is causing it. He's got some kind of a bad bacterial
infection coming from somewhere else. And also Daryl, he's One
of his legs swelled up and he can't walk on it. And Larry can't
walk with a walker. He can't walk very far with that.
Somebody get that sick. And I pray the Lord raise him
back up and put him back in the pulpit. I know that's where he
wants to be. And all right, let's start reading
in verse 18. Read to the last of the chapter.
2 Samuel 7, verse 18. Then went King David in, and
sat before the Lord, and he said, Who am I, O Lord God, and what
is my house that thou hast brought me hitherto? And this was yet
a small thing in thy sight, O Lord God, but thou hast spoken also
of thy servant's house for a great while to come. And is this the
manner of men, O Lord God? And what can David say more unto
thee? For thou, Lord God, knowest thy
servant. For thy word's sake and according
to thine own heart hast thou done all these great things to
make thy servant to know. Wherefore thou art great, O Lord
God, for there is none like thee. Neither is there any god beside
thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears. And
what one nation in the earth is like thy people, even like
Israel, whom God went to redeem for a people to himself, and
to make a name, and to do for you great things and terrible,
for thy land before thy people which thou redeemest to thee
from Egypt? from the nations and their gods,
for thou hast confirmed to thyself thy people Israel to be a people
unto thee for ever, and thou, Lord, art become their god. And now, O Lord God, the word
that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant and concerning his
house, establish it for ever, and do as thou hast said. And
let thy name be magnified for ever, saying, The Lord of hosts
is the God over Israel, And let the house of thy servant David
be established before thee. For thou, O LORD of hosts, God
of Israel, hast revealed to thy servant, saying, I will build
thine house. Therefore hath thy servant found
in his heart to pray this prayer unto thee. And now, O LORD God,
thou art that God, and thy words be true, and thou hast promised
this goodness unto thy servant. therefore now let it please thee
to bless the house of thy servant that it may continue forever
before thee but thou oh lord god has spoken it and with thy
blessing let the house of thy servant be blessed forever hands
not too arms not too short and he has to reach down for us all
right look with me back here in second samuel I hope by God's
grace to bring a message from this and the Lord will bless
it and use it. But we start there in verse 18. It says this. Then went King
David in and sat before the Lord. And he said, Who am I? Oh, Lord
God. And what is my house that thou
hast brought me hither to? Now, David wanted to build God
a house. Wanted to build a tabernacle
building for God to dwell in, to put the ark in. And he wanted
to honor God, glorify God. But God turned around, told Nathan,
you said you go tell David instead of building me a house, I'm going
to build him a house. And I'm going to establish his
house forever. I'm going to establish his seed on this earth forever. His throne will be established
forever. And that's speaking of the Lord
Jesus Christ who was of the seed of David. after the flesh. And so he established his throne
forever. So that's what's happened. And
then went King David and sat before the Lord. Now look where
he was before in verse 1. And it came to pass when the
king sat in his house and the Lord had given him rest round
from all his enemy he had rest now all his enemies had been
destroyed our king david our lord jesus christ destroyed all
of our enemies and we now have rest but david went from sitting
on his throne enjoying rest after god told him that he is going
to build him a house and establish his throne forever through his
seed david then went and Tabernacle and set before the Lord and he
said why who am I what is my house? I want you to notice this
then then after God made the promise then after God told him
he's going to establish his throne forever David went and sat before
the Lord. That's a humble place of what's
a place of humility. It's a place of meekness, it's
a place of submission, and he went and sat before the Lord.
Now I want you to know where he's sitting at. He's sitting
before the Lord. He wasn't concerned about anything
or anyone else. He sat before the Lord. And His
Lord, He sat before the Lord, His Master, His Redeemer, His
God, His Lord. And He sat before Him in adoration.
Oh, He adored God. You go through the Psalms and
some of the things He said about God. He sat before Him in adoration. He sat before Him in worship.
Sat before Him in reverence. Sat before Him in love. Sat before
Him in peace. and all my praise and thankfulness
he loved his master he loved his god he he blessed his god
and he revered him and he feared him and david was he set before
the lord he gloried in him he rejoiced in him and he sat down
and worshiped worshiped him and i tell you what god allows sinners
like us the lord allows sinners like us to set before whether
you know enoch walked with god and he was not Walk down before
the Lord. He told Noah and be thou perfect
and he told Abraham the same thing So whether we're walking
or we're setting like we are this morning we are before the
Lord and that God allows us as sinners as sinners to come and
set before him and speak to him and reverence him and and worship
Him and fear Him and bless His holy name. He allows us to do
that. You know how many people He never
calls to do that? When they sang, He reached way,
way down for me. That's why David said, Who am
I? Who am I? Who are you? Who are any of us?
That God would let us sit before Him. Let us sit here this morning
before Him. Let us sit in our homes before
Him. What a place to sit. It's like
that woman in Luke chapter 7. Our Lord was eating at Simon
the leper's house, a Pharisee. And Mary came in. And she got
down at the Savior's feet. At the Savior's feet, Christ
was sitting at a table. Sitting, reclined, as they sit
on the floor and they recline. And she came to His feet. And
she got down at His feet. And she began to weep profusely.
and as she wept at the feet of our blessed Savior, her tears
just covered his feet, just covered his feet, and she washed them
with her tears, and then pulled her hair down around her, and
then she dried them off for him. And you know what Simon said?
If this man was a prophet, he'd know what kind of woman this
is. She's a sinner, but that's where sinners want to be, at
the feet of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen. That's like Martha and
they were said he was at Mary and Martha and Lazarus house
having a they was fixing him a meal. Martha was going around
doing all kinds of things and Mary was sitting at the Savior's
feet sitting no doubt with her arm resting on his on his knee
or her head resting on his knee. And she sat down there at his
feet. And Martha came to him and said, Lord, Lord, why in
the world don't you tell Mary to get up and help me around
the house here? Our Lord said, Martha, Martha,
you're worried. You're just cumbered about a
lot of things. Mary has chosen that good part, and I ain't fixing
to tell her to get up and go away. Sat before the Lord, sitting
at his feet. Who am I? And I'll tell you what,
and look whatever, and I'll tell you this, beloved. He said, who
am I and what is my house? Who am I? If we ever, God ever
blesses us to see something of the holiness and the glory and
the beauty of the Lord of heaven and earth, we'll sit before him
like David did and say, who am I? Who am I? Who am I, Lord,
that a king would bleed and die for? Who am I that God would
ever even look in our direction? And then he says, what is my
house? And a house means all your family. It means the people in your home
and everybody related to you. And he says, what is my house?
Me, my servants, my sons, my daughters, what is my house?
that you had bring me to such a place to sit here before you,
to sit here before you. And I tell you, if anyone's brought
here, I tell you what, if anyone's brought here, there'll be no
more arguing over whether salvation's the will of God or the free will
of man. Once you ever see God, that argument's
over and done with if you ever sees glory and holiness. And
I tell you, this argument is over and done with whether salvation
is your part to do something and God's part to do something.
No, you'll say, the only part I had in it was my sin and God
did everything else to save me from my sin. And the argument
will be over, well, if it's fair for God to elect a sinner or
not, for God to pass by some and save some others. It's God
letting him do what seemeth good in his sight. And that's what
it means to sit before. If we ever seem that way, you
know what Paul said? Every mouth will be stopped.
And anybody arguing with God over whether election's right
or not, salvation's the free will of God or the free will
of man, they ain't seen God yet. If you ever see him, your mouth
will shut up and you'll bow before the Lord and say, who am I, oh
Lord? Who in the world am I? That's what you'll say. How in
the world, how can it be, how can it be that thou, my God,
shouldst die for me? Oh my, in seeing God, in seeing
God, we're overwhelmed, overwhelmed that he would even look in our
direction. And then do it in grace. Do it
in grace, not in justice, not in anger, not in wrath, not in
displeasure, but look towards us in grace. And what is my house? I'm from the house of Adam. That's
where I come from. I'm from the house of Adam. You
know what my coat of arms is? Everybody got a coat of arms.
They'll send you this picture of your coat of arms. You know
what my coat of arms is? Rebel. crossed in great big letters,
rebel, double-dive sinner. But Paul said, this is a saying
worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world
to save sinners, and I'm the chief. Oh my, and you know what is my
house, and who am I? I'm his child, because of the
promise seen in his throne would be established forever. And then
look what he said in verse 19, that you brought me here, that
you brought me to this blessed place. Whoa, wasn't great. And
yet look what he said, and this was yet a small thing in your
sight, oh Lord God. When you think about all the
greatness of God, and the glory of God, and the power of God,
and the earth is His Lord, and the earth is His in the fullness
thereof. When you think about how glorious
is this, and how many times, how many people He saves in this
world all the time. David said, listen, to you, this
is nothing for you. This is such a small thing for
you to do. It didn't take any power. It just took your pleasure. That's all it took. It just took
your will. That's all it took. It just took
your mercy and grace. That's all it took. He said it
was no great thing. He said it's a small thing that
you did. The mercy and grace and goodness
and power so infinitely vast, what you've done for me, Compared
to who you are, it's just a small thing. Just a small thing. You know, anybody that can speak
the world into existence, just speak it into existence. Just
speak it into existence. When he does something for us. That's what David said, small
thing. Out of your treasure of grace,
out of your treasure of grace, and as full as your treasure
of grace is, you gave me this measure of grace, and compared
to what you've got, it's small, it's small. And I'll tell you
why you're small, because I'm small. That's what David said.
And we sing that old hymn. Could we rethink the ocean field? Were the skies of parchment made? And every man, every stalk on
earth a quill, and every man a scribe by trade? To write the
love of God above would drain the ocean dry. And though the
scroll was scratched from sky to sky, it couldn't contain the
whole. It couldn't do it. To write the
love of God above. And he says, what you have done, And our doing
is but a small thing as to what you've promised me for all eternity. The promise that you've made
me concerning my throne, concerning my seed, concerning that my Savior
is going to be my King, my Lord, my God. And oh, beloved, to know
Christ, to know Christ, to have that full experiences. And oh,
listen, what we know about Him now, what joy it is. and all
the experiences that we had, but there's so much more to come,
so much more to come. And that's why John says, you
know, what manner of love has been bestowed upon us that we
should be called the sons of God. John said, I can't tell
it all out about what's going to do. And he says, and oh Lord,
he said, yet this is a small thing in thy sight. And you know
God's promise is the foundation. And look what he said, Thou hast
spoken also of thy servant's house for a great while to come. This is what I'm doing now and
yet for way out in the future I've got promises forever and
ever and ever for a great while to come. And oh my, God's promise
is the foundation of our hope. You know what he says about Abraham?
That being persuaded that what he promised he is able also to
So God's spoken a great while to come about things for us. Great while to come. Oh, and
then look what he says, oh, you've spoken of your servants out for
a great, the best is yet to come, I'm telling you. And is this
the manner of men, in verse 19, and is this the manner of men,
oh Lord God? Is this the way man does? To
be able to take a beggar from the dunghill and set him among
princes, huh? to save a sinner freely require
nothing from him but giving him everything he needs everything
that's required to bless is this the manner of men to bless so
abundantly to make promises so gloriously to speak of us and
the things to come for all eternity is this the matter of men and
then look what david said in verse 20 david became speechless
And he says, What can David say more unto thee? For thou, Lord
God, knowest thy servant. What more can I say? What can
I say before you? And oh, beloved, when we see
God, sometimes we become speechless when we really see the Lord.
David, but Job said it like this. I put my hand over my back. I've
spoken once, I've spoken twice, but I'm going to shut up. I thought
I knew something about God, but I'm speechless. I don't know
what to say. Don't know what to say. And oh, when we're overwhelmed
sometimes with His grace and His goodness, when Peter says,
you know whom having not seen, we haven't seen Him, and yet
we rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory. And then look
what he says, what more can I say unto thee? For thou, Lord God,
knowest thy servant. You know me. You know your servant.
You know me. And I don't know about you. I've
told you this. I don't know how many times. You're talking about
comfort. This is comfort to a child of God. Lord, you know me. You know me. He knew us before
we was. He knows what we think. He knows
what we feel. He knows where our hearts is.
He knows where our minds is. He knows our desires. He knows
our promises. He knows our prayers. He knows
everything there is to know about us. Everything! He knows the
hairs on our head and He said, He said, Lord thou knowest and
what a comfort it is! that God knows us as we are and
saves us still and keeps us still and blesses us still the way
we are. He knows us! I love it like that. I can't
hide from Him. I can't hide from Him. There's
no place dark enough that God can't see. There's no place deep
enough that God can't look. And there's no place high enough
that God can't go. So I tell you, He knows us and
still saves us, still keeps us saved. No wonder David said,
Who am I and what is my house? And you know when he knew us?
He told Jeremiah, he said, before you was formed in your mother's
belly, I knew you. And he said, those that I foreknew
before the foundation of the world, them I foreknew. The foundation
of God standeth sure. The Lord knows them that are
his. Oh my, God knows us. And then there's a people one
of these days, you know, Paul says whether we know God or whether
are known of God, he told the Galatians. But one of these days,
there's going to be a whole bunch of folks stand before him. And
they're going to start telling him all that we did that day.
They're going to say, Lord, we preached in your name. prophesied
in your name, cast out devils in your name, done lots of wonderful
works in your name. And you know what the Lord's
gonna say? Depart from me, you workers of iniquity. I never
knew. Four awfulest words that a sinner's
ever gonna, a man's ever gonna hear. I never knew. And oh, what
we say means nothing. God looks right into the heart.
Then look what he says down here in verse 21. Why does God treat
me this way? Why does God love me so and make
such promises? Look what David said, for thy
word's sake. For your word's sake, what you
said you were. You said this is what you're going to do, you
know. Thy word forever, O Lord, is established, forever, forever
established. And that's what he says. Why
does God treat me this way and love me so and make such promises?
He said, for your words. And ain't that what we make our
foundation, what God said, what thus saith the Lord, and what
God says. And I heard Don preaching on
this here a couple weeks ago. He says, what God says and the
way God sees things, that's the way it is. And you know, how
God sees things and what God says about something, that's
the way it is. We may not feel it. We may not even rejoice in
it at times. We may even lose our rest sometimes. But God says that we're in Christ,
chosen in Christ, called in Christ, put in Christ. Christ in us is
the hope of glory, and that's the way it is. Because that's
what God says, that's the way it is. Jacob hath a love, and
he shall have a hated. That's God's, that's the way
it is. That's the way it is. And that's
why he said, according to your word's sake. And I'll tell you
a bit of it. Then look what else he said.
according to your, for your word's sake. That's what you've done
this for, for your word's sake. God makes a promise. Mark her
down. It's done. It's as, you know,
when he talked about us being called and justified and glorified,
every single one of those was in the past tense, and they was
in the past tense before we was ever born. You know that? It said glorified. You know what that means? That's
the way it is. That's the way it is. You ain't seen, listen,
I said, you know, I told this down there the other day. Oh,
oh, oh. Christian he was fleeing from
the city of destruction and he had this awful burden on his
back and he said I have this burden on my back and this book
says that I Have to pass the judgment and this I ain't able
to do and to die which I don't want to do and so he was fleeing
from the city of destruction and he run across faithful and
They went through they went up. They went through the wicked
gate with through that straight gate And they come out and there
was this bleeding man hanging on a cross And they said boy
said when he's viewed that bleeding man hanging on that cross that
Burden fell off of his back and rolled into the grave rolled
into the tomb And he looked at old Faithful and he looked at
him and he said, oh my goodness, you've got the most beautiful
shining garment I've ever seen. I've never seen nothing like
it. Oh you shine, oh you're just beautiful, you're glorious. And
he said, me, me, you're the one that's got the beautiful garment
on. You're the one that's shiny. And it appeared as both of them
were shining. And what I'm telling you is that
we're shining. You know why we're shining? Because
God said he made us the righteousness of Christ in God. And I tell you, you know, you
look at yourself, you say, I don't see no shining. But I look at
you and I see shining. I see grace shine. I see love
shine. I see generosity shine. I see
patience shine. I see faithfulness shine. I'm looking at a bunch of folks
shining like the sun. Ain't that right? You say, I
don't shine. If God made you righteous in
Christ, you got on a wedding garment and it shines like the
sun. Huh? When God looks at you, that's
all he sees. Oh my. And then look what he
says, for thy worse sake, and then look what he says now, according
to thine own heart. According, not only for your
worse sake, but what's according to your heart. Now, God uses
language. We know Christ had a heart. I
mean, you know, he, he wept over people, he rejoiced over people,
he had compassion. But God speaks to us in language
we can understand. And you know, we understand what's
in our hearts. Sometimes we do. And he said,
according to the heart, what's in God's heart? And when it says
God's heart, according to that heart, he's talking about what's
important to him. What's important to God? What
is he jealous over? Let me give you several things.
And they all go together. First of all, beloved, his words
in his heart. Oh, his words precious to him.
His word, he's jealous over his word. His grace, grace is in
his heart. Grace comes out of his heart.
Sovereignty is in his heart. That's precious to him. His sovereignty.
That he will do what he will and for whom he will, he'll do
it for. I will according to what I will. He said it's not of him
that willeth, it's not of him that runneth, but it's of God.
And then his glory. His glory is precious to him.
And he won't share it with anybody. And I'll tell you something else
that's in his heart that's precious to him. His people. He said he
that toucheth you touches the apple of mine eye. And then His
blessed and beloved Son, the Son of His love, all these things
go to Him. These are what's in God's heart,
what's precious to Him, what He does to them. And then look
what He says about this, in the last part of our verse, that
I were a sake of corn that has done all these great things.
All these great things, what for? What's the reason behind
it? To make thy servant to know. I've done all this so you know
it. He didn't even notice he said he makes you to know it,
makes you to know it, makes you to know it. People say, well,
God's trying to teach me something. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. If you got a lesson to learn,
you're going to learn it. He's going to make you to know
it. And when He makes you to know
something, you say, I know it. I know it. And oh my, then He
asked this question in verse 22. Who is like the Lord? Who is like the Lord? We hear
a lot. And He says, Wherefore thou art
great, O Lord God, for there's none like thee, neither is there
any God beside thee according to all we've heard with our ears.
Who's like the Lord? We hear about lots of gods. But
who is as great? Who is as just? Who is absolutely
sovereign as Him? Who is omni as Him? Who is all-present,
all-wise, all-powerful like Him? Who says like He does? Who loves
like He does? Who gives so freely like He does? He says, Thou art great. And
we sing that old hymn, how great Thou art. And you know, we ain't
even touched the hem of the garment. And then look what he says in
verse 23. And oh, when you have a view of God, and it's right,
it's a high view, and a high view of his people, look what
he says. And what one nation is the earth is like thy people,
even Israel, whom you went to redeem for a people to yourself
and to make a name for yourself. and to do for yourself great
things and terrible for thy land before thy people which you redeemed
to thee from Egypt from the nations and their gods." And oh, in your
view of God's right you have a high view of those and a high
view of those whom Christ redeemed. They're redeemed, effectually
redeemed. When He brought them up out of Egypt, you know what
happened the night He brought them out of Egypt? The lamb was
slain, the blood was shed, and the blood was applied. and they
weren't coming out until the lamb was slain, the blood was
applied, and that's when God brought them out. And because
the lamb's been slain, the blood's been shed. God brought us out,
brought us out of the world, brought us out of our religion,
brought us out of our traditions, and oh my, and why they're redeemed
makes them special. You know what he said? He said
he done this to make himself a great name. God does what he
does. to make himself great in our
eyes, great and glorious in our eyes. To make it, his name is
great. Is his name not great to us?
Is his name not everything to us? And then look what he says,
and to save thy people from their gods. Oh, the gods he saved us
from, the god of self-righteousness, the god of self-reliance, the
god of self-confidence, the god of saving us from our works and
our self-righteousness. Oh, he saved us from all our
gods. then look what he says in verse 24. Oh David's praying
here before God. For thou hast confirmed to thyself
thy people Israel to be a people unto thee forever and thou Lord
God art become their God. And when he says, for thou hast
confirmed to thyself thy people Israel, you know what this word
confirmed means? Cause to stand, cause to set
up an appointment. And this is the blessed covenant
of grace. And he says, oh, you've done
this for your people forever, forever. What a covenant. God
done this forever, caused us to stand, set us up in Christ. And here, beloved, is the covenant
of grace. He appointed us, look what he
says, you've got your people under thee forever. We're appointed
to be his people forever. And he said, and he became our
God. Do you know what the covenant of grace is? I'll be their God,
they'll be my people. That's the long and short of
it. That's the long and short of it. And then look what a plea
of faith is in verse 25. And now, O Lord God, the word
that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant and concerning his
house, establish it forever and do as thou hast said. Here's
the plea of faith. Do what you said you're going
to do. Do what you said. Then, oh, you've spoken. You've
spoken the word. He has promised. Can he fail?
And you know he says, do what you said you're going to do.
Do what you said. Our faith is based upon what
he said. What he said. What he promised.
And old Scott Richardson used to say, he said, you know what
preaching is, is just telling, telling what God's telling back
to people what God's already done. Just telling them what
God said. And that's what we do. He said, God, you've already,
this is what you said. Now, you're going to do that.
He said, that's what faith says. You said it. I believe it. You
said it. And that's what he said. Lord,
you said it. And that's what our hope, our
faith, everything's founded upon and on what God said, on what
God said. And then look what David said
here in verse 26. And he said, let thy name be magnified. Let thy name be magnified forever. They asked David, where is now
your God? Psalm 115, where is now thy God? Your God, David, where is he?
Where is your God? David said, my God's in the heavens. And you know what he does? Whatever
he pleases, whatever he pleases. And you know, he said, I can
see your God, you take him with you wherever you go, but our
God's in the heavens. Not unto us, O Lord, not unto
us, but unto thy name be glory, both now and forever, for thy
mercy and for thy truth's sake. And he said, let thy name be
magnified. And don't you find this one of the burdens of your
heart that you can't magnify him the way he needs to be magnified. You know what magnification is.
Everybody looks through binoculars, magnifying glasses. And that
makes the small things look big. And God, and his name is already
great and glorious. And that's for us to make it
big. To make it glorious. To speak
of him in the highest terms. Speak of him in the highest terms.
Let your name, not my name, your name be magnified. Let my name
not even be, who am I, Lord? And what is my house? He turned
binoculars around and everything, and that's what we need. We need
to be about like that. Can't even see through that hole
right there. That's what we need. Him to be everything, us to be
nothing. And then look what else he says
there in verse 26. Let thy name be magnified forever. The Lord of host is the God over
Israel. And listen to this. And let the
house of thy servant be established before you. Let us, and this
is what's going to happen. We're the seed of Christ, the
seed of David. We're in Christ. Said, let us
be established by you. That's what David. No, may we
be established by God. Let us be your people. You be
your God. Establish us. Make us to stand. Establish us strong. Make us
as a tree planted by the rivers of water. with roots deep, deep,
deep. Then look what he says in verse
27. For thou, O Lord of hosts, God of Israel, hast revealed
to thy servant, saying, I will build thee a house. Therefore,
thy servant found in his heart to pray this prayer unto thee.
And what David's saying there in that verse, Lord, I know your
word, and I know you. You're the Lord God of hosts
of Israel. And you said by your word that
you was going to build me a house forever and ever, establish me
forever and ever. And I know your promises. How
do you know, David? Because you revealed them to
me. If you know anything, how did
you get it? In the margin it says, you opened
the ear. You revealed it to him. You hid them from the wise and
prudent and revealed them unto babes. Unto babes. And then he
says, and that's why therefore thy servant hath founded his
heart to pray this prayer. You gave me this desire to sit
here before you. You made these wonderful and
gracious promises to me. You spoke your word, and now
I'm here before you because you put it in my heart. You put it
in my heart to pray this prayer unto you. To pray before you
gave me this desire. And then look what he says in
verse 28. And now, O Lord God, thou art God, thou art that God,
and listen to this, and thy words be true. Yet thy words be true. Heard some folks talking this
morning about people, you know, they don't want no kind of religion
whatsoever. There's a generation coming on
it. And then there's this group of people that's been for several
years, and they even advertise it, put billboards out, put it
on buses and stuff. Be good. You can be good without
God. You don't need God to be good.
And they put that out all over. Let them say what they will,
let them think what they will, let them believe what they will,
and let them do what they want to do and say what they want.
If they don't want God, I do. If they don't want to believe
God, I do. If they don't want to be saved
by the grace of God, I do. If they want to be good without
God, I don't because there ain't no wretched man that I am. I
know that in me, that in my flesh dwelleth what? No good thing. And that's why He says, Lord,
thy words be true. Let people decide to do what
they want to. But God's Word is true. You know
how true it is? I stake my eternal soul on what
God said. And you know what? When I preach
to you, you stake your eternal words on what God said. Thy words
be true. Don't you? That's what we do.
Your words are true. And then look what else He goes
on to say. And thou hast promised God has promised this goodness
unto thy servant. Your words are true and you've
promised. All the promises of God are yea and amen in Christ
Jesus. Oh, this good, your word's true
and you've promised. You've promised. And then look
what he says last of all, verse 29. Therefore now let it please
thee. Therefore now, let it please
thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may continue
forever before thee. For thou, O Lord, God has spoken
it. And with thy blessing, let the
house of thy servant be blessed. Therefore, let it please you.
Oh, what pleases you? What rest of heart? What pleases
you, O Lord? To bless me and establish me
forever? With thy blessing, let the house
of thy servant be blessed forever. Do you know that our house, our
lives, and our souls are blessed forever? Not just while we're
here, not just when we hear the gospel, forever, ever, ever. You know, when a soul goes to
eternity, leaves this world, and enters into eternity, When
a child of God enters this world, enters into eternity, that's
all they've ever known. Once they get there, this world
ceases to be. They don't remember a thing in
the world about it. So when they get to eternity, it's as if they'd
always been there, because nothing in this world means nothing to
them. So I tell you what, you think about that forever and
ever, and forever and ever is a long time. You say, well, I
ain't never gonna do that again. You say, never is a long, long
time, man. But all of mine, to be blessed
of the Lord forever and ever. Let it please me, oh God. Our Father, our Father, the blessed,
glorious, oh, the precious, the blessed, precious of the Lord
Jesus Christ, we bless you for your gospel. And Lord, we set
before you this morning, humble ourselves in our hearts. standing
or sitting or kneeling or lying. Lord, we're before you. Walking,
working, whatever we do, we're before you. May our hearts be
filled with your praise. May our hearts be filled with
your word, knowing that your word is true. And Lord, we believe
what you've said. You said it. You said it. God
bless you people in this place. Save your people in this place.
Make a sinner a sinner. And if you make a sinner a sinner,
they'll run to you, they'll flee to you, they'll embrace you,
and they'll bow to you. I know this. God, bring glory
to yourself through us, through your word, for Christ's sake.
Amen.
