27 through 30 in Matthew 11. I brought a message from this
same text last week, but it's got another one for this week. All things are delivered unto
me of my Father, and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father. Neither
knoweth any man the Father, but the Son. Neither
knoweth any man the Father save the Son, and he to whomsoever
the Son will reveal him. Come unto me, all you that labor
and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon
you and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart. And
you shall find rest for your souls, for my yoke is easy and
my burden is light." I want to talk today about the grace and
glory of the Lord Jesus Christ, the grace and the glory of the
Lord Jesus Christ. The love that we have for the
Lord Jesus Christ and the confidence, confidence we have in Him will
be in accordance with the knowledge and apprehension we have of Him.
The more we know about Him, the more we'll love Him. The more
we know about Him, the more we'll trust Him. And that goes hand
in hand. The more you know, the more you'll
trust. The more you know about Him,
the greater will be your love for Him. And that's what the
scripture says, you know, with it. He says, for we grow in what? Grace and knowledge of who? The Lord Jesus Christ. Grow in
grace and in the knowledge of Him. And the Scriptures, the
Bible is full of our Lord Jesus Christ. They describe Him that
we might have a greater knowledge of Him. That's why our Lord says,
search the Scriptures. He told them, search the Scriptures.
I want you to search the Scriptures. For in them you think you have
eternal life. For when you search them, you
know what they're going to say? They're going to testify of me.
They're going to speak of me. And he says Moses wrote of me. And he says when Noah got in
the ark, it was me that gave him the ark to prove and show
him that salvation was in one way. One way in the ark was salvation
from the wrath of God. That was being in the ark. Christ
is our ark. He is that rock that was smitten
and gave water. He is that great high priest
who went into the holiest of holies and obtained eternal redemption
for us. He is the brightness of God's
glory, the express image of his person. He himself said he's
the bread of life. He said, I am the bread of life.
I am the water of life. I'm the light of the world. And
he says, I'm the way, I'm the truth, and I'm the life. He said
He came to save, to be a Savior. He's the shepherd of the sheep.
He's the Lamb that came to be slain. He is God. And that scripture is full of
Him. Describes Him in so many ways. And the Bible, the Word
of God, gives us a knowledge of His sufferings. That we might
be delivered from our sins. That's why we know something
about the cross and that's why we glory in the cross. Because
it was at the cross where our sins were put away. And we read
about His sufferings and hear about His sufferings. And the
scriptures teaches us of His sufferings that we might be delivered
from our sins, from our unbelief, from our fears. But that soul,
that soul that has been brought to see the need of a Savior,
and see the need of a need. That's the key there. Very few
people need a Savior. They're alright. They're satisfied
with their life. Satisfied with their morality.
Satisfied with their way they live. They're satisfied with
the way they think they can face God. But I tell you what, That
soul that sees their need and has been brought to see their
need of the Savior, they know this, that the one that they're
going to trust, trust their soul to, trust their souls with, first
of all, he has to have the power to save. If you're going to trust
your soul to somebody, will he have the power to save it? Huh? You ain't going to just trust
your soul to anybody, are you? So that soul that feels their
need of a Savior, they know one thing. They know that this Savior
that's going to save them, they're going to commit their soul to
Him. He's got to have the power to save. Because the power is
not in us. We know that. We found that out.
That we have no ability, no power. That's why our Lord Jesus Christ
said, come unto Me. He said, if you will not come,
that you might have life. And then He turned around and
said, come unto Me. Not only does that man that sees his need
of Christ see that he must have power to save, but he must have
the authority to save. Somebody has to give him the
authority. But you know the church don't
give the preacher authority to save anybody. God never gave
the church authority to save anybody. He never gave the Pope
any authority to save anybody. He never gave a soul winner any
authority to save anybody. So who has the authority to save
a soul? You ain't going to trust your
soul to anybody, are you? And that soul that feels their
need of a savior, they know he's got to have power to save, authority
to save, and thirdly, he must have the intention to save. Does He intend to save? Well,
and our Lord Jesus condescends. He comes down and teaches us
by His Word in this verse that all three of these things belong
to Him. Belong to Him. And I tell you, all power belongs
to Him. You know why? Because He's God.
It's the air conditioning on or the heat on. Go check and
see which one of them is on. It feels hot in here to me. But I know this, that all power
belongs to Him. We're talking about power to
save. All power belongs to Him. Pull that thing down to the bottom.
No, the other thing. Right there, yeah. Is it on cool? But all power belongs to Him.
He has the power to save and all power belongs to Him for
He's God. And then here in our text it
says all authority belongs to Him because He says in the beginning
of verse 27, all things are delivered unto me of my Father. So He's
got the authority to save. He said all things are delivered
unto me of my Father. And then He said He has the intention
to save, look what He says. And no man knoweth the Son, but
the Father. And neither knoweth any man the
Father, save the Son. And he to whoever is the Son
will receive it." Reveal Him. So He's intentioned to say He
came to reveal the Father. He's got the power. He's got
the authority. All things are delivered unto
Him. And He came to reveal the Father. And then so He said after
He done that, So therefore come unto Me. I've got the power. I've got the authority and I'm
going to reveal the Father to you. I'm going to reveal where
salvation's at and all the power belongs unto me. And then he
talks about how he's going to reveal grace and show his grace
towards sinners, towards babes. Now when he says here, I've come
to reveal the Father, only the Son can reveal the Father. He,
our Lord Jesus Christ, came to reveal God. to reveal and give
us the knowledge of God. There's no way anybody can know
anything about God unless the Lord Jesus Christ reveals God
to them. Now that's just the way it is.
Neither knows any man the Father, only the Son. And whosoever He
will, reveal Him. Now let me tell you something.
It means more than just the knowledge of knowing there is a God. The
devils believe there's a God and they tremble. The Pharisees
and the Jews believe that there is a God. That there's only one
God. And they're still looking for
the Messiah to come. And most people would be greatly
offended if you told them they were ignorant of God. If you
told them, if you told the average man and said, well, you know,
you're ignorant of God. You don't have the knowledge
of God. They say, well I believe in God. I believe He's the Creator. But salvation is not in believing
in the creation. There's no blood revealed in
looking at the stars. There's no righteousness revealed
in the heavens. There is no salvation revealed
in looking at God's creation and rejoicing in it. Salvation
and authority is only given to Jesus Christ. And He said, if
you ever know the Father, I've got to be the one to reveal Him
to you. He was in the bosom of the Father
and He came to declare Him out. And the Lord just didn't come
to tell us there is a God. He came to reveal to His people
a knowledge of God. A God that would save us and
how to approach that God. Most folks don't have a clue
how you approach God. If they did, they wouldn't say
the things that they do. They wouldn't believe the things
about themselves that they do. God cannot just be walked up
to an address by anybody. You just don't walk up and start
talking to God. That's not the way it's done.
Now you may walk up and talk to a God of your mind and a God
of your imagination or a God that you think exists, but the
God of the Bible that Christ came to reveal, He came to show
us how that would save us and how to approach Him and how to
have hope in His mercy. And such a knowledge that we
would say, my God and my Father. This is my God, this is my Father. that I know God. Not some things
about God. I know God. I know who He is. I know where
He dwells. And our Lord Jesus Christ in
His incarnation, He come to give us a two-fold revelation of the
knowledge of God. A two-fold revelation of the
knowledge of God. And the first is by His own blessed
person and the second is by His Spirit. Now when He said, I came
till nobody knows the Father, save the Son, and whomsoever
He reveals Him. He reveals the Father, God, in
His own blessed person. Look over here in Hebrews chapter
1. Hebrews chapter 1. Let me show
you something. Look what He said here in Hebrews
chapter 1 about our Lord Jesus Christ. You know, our Lord says that
God gave Him all power and all authority that He might make known God. Look what He
said here in verse 3. Talking about Christ now, revealing
the Father. Well you see God in the person
of the Lord Jesus Christ, who being the brightness of His glory,
and the express image of His person. Now who's He talking
about there? He's talking about God. Well,
who is the express image of His person and who's the brightness
of His glory? The Lord Jesus Christ is. You know, when you see, listen,
I don't know, you know, God in His sovereign mercy came down
to this earth in a person. God is eternal. God is holy. God is gracious. God is infinite. And God came down in His blessed
person. And the Lord Jesus Christ, no
man's ever seen God save the Son and He to whom He reveals
Him and makes Him known. Now if you want to know about
God's grace, it's in Christ. You want to know about God's
love, it's in Christ. You want to know about God's
power, it's in Christ. You want to know about how Gracious
and merciful and kind and pitiful and just God is. Look at His
Son. And oh, in creation, in providence,
oh, we see how much of God's greatness and goodness and wisdom
was ours. But these are not saving knowledge.
And let me show you over here not only that, but look in John
chapter 14. The Scripture says it much better
than I can say it. John chapter 14. John chapter 14. I'll tell you all something that I
experienced this weekend. There was a man down in Greg
Amquist's congregation. He's liver quit working. He's
been in the hospital several days. Greg just almost turned around
and went right back because he thought the Lord was going to
take him home. And this man has got a 12 year
old son. Wife. And we got on the phone
and you know face to face and started talking to him and having
a conversation with him. And this fellow is so happy.
He's laying there fixing to go out into eternity and knows it.
And we got to talking with him on the phone, looking at him,
and he could see us and we could see him. And he was so happy,
and he told Greg, he said, one thing I am so thankful for, Pastor
Greg, is that you have preached the gospel to me. That I know
God, I know Christ, and he began to preach the gospel to us. He
began to say, you know, I, he says, he says, you know that
when Christ was here, every step he took, every deed he done,
every obedience he rendered, every word he said, everything
he did, we did it too, because we was in him. Boy, we all got
happy, you know, we got happy. And he began to preach the gospel
to us. And this is what he started talking
about. He started talking about what we were in Christ and what
Christ is to us and what Christ is to him. And him laying there
and his liver's not working at all. And I tell you, that's something. He starts preaching the gospel
to you. We call him up to try to be an encouragement and blessing
to him. And we all walk away from there rejoicing in the Lord.
But that's what the thing is, is that he understood that all
salvation was in Christ. And he was going to go see Christ
when he closed his eyes. Going to go be with the Lord. A dear friend of ours here, of
mine, that I've known for years and years and years, Billy Blaylock,
the Lord called him out of here last night. Talk to him a lot, but look what
he said here, that's what I say, we got to know salvation is in
a person. If you want to know God, you
got to look to Christ. Where's the glory of God at?
In the person of the Lord Jesus Christ. And this Bible is about Him.
Now look what he said here in John 14 and verse 8. O Philip saith unto him, Lord,
now this is the same Philip that went and found Nathanael. And Philip saith unto him, show
us the Father and it will be sufficient for us. That will
satisfy us. We will not ask for anything
else. And our Lord said unto him, If I have been so long time
with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip, he that hath
seen me hath seen the Father. And how sayest thou then, Show
us the Father? Every time you looked at me,
you were looking at the Father. You were looking at God. And
oh, listen, but looking to the Lord Jesus Christ in faith, we
can see and have a saving knowledge of God. You look at Him. Our Lord Jesus Christ hanging
on a cross. There He is hanging on a cross.
And if we could have seen this great transaction, and if we
would have been in our right minds, we would have had to ask
some questions. Huh? Who is this man? What is
this man here that's praying? What is this man here that told
this man over next to him that today he would be with him in
paradise? What is it about this man that
said he's got this authority to take this fellow to paradise
with him today? What is it about this man hanging
there that people come and gather around? Huh? What has he done
that they are crucified? Huh? Oh, listen. We have to say, well,
he's the son of God's love. Him in whom is no sin, him in
whom is no guile. That's what we have to come to
the conclusion of. Why was he scourged? Why was
he wounded? Why was he tormented? Why was
he humiliated? Why was he nailed to this tree? Why are these men walking around
mocking him? Why are they ridiculing him over
his sufferings? Why doesn't He just destroy them?
Why doesn't He? Well, He told His disciples,
I must suffer. I must go to Jerusalem. I must
suffer. And I must die. And you know why He suffered
these things that's hanging on the cross? The sufferings in
His body, the sufferings in His soul, the sufferings in His heart.
To reveal some things to us. When we see our Lord on the cross,
we see the wisdom of God. The wisdom of God. We see how
God, justice and mercy can be together. You know, look with
me in Psalm 85. Here's a wonderful illustration
of this. Psalm 85. How justice and mercy can be
reconciled. You know, God said He will by
no means clear the guilty. And He doesn't. And this is the
wonderful thing about the wisdom of God and Christ dying on the
cross and His suffrage for us. His suffrage for His people to
put away sin. It shows us how the wisdom of
God in the salvation of sinners. Now, how can God take us that
are guilty since he says he can't clear us of our guilt so how
can he not clear us of our guilt and yet beloved save us and justify
us and declare us righteous at the same time I'll tell you how
he can because he punished us for our sins he punished us for
our iniquities We die for our sins. We bore the wrath of God
for our sins. We bore the justice of God for
our sins. Where did we do that? In the
Lord Jesus Christ. That's why justice cannot come
and demand that we have to give anything else. Justice can't
do that. God cannot come if the Lord Jesus
Christ paid our debt. Paid our sin debt. Suffered our
debt. died our death and we died in
Him and He was buried and He was raised again for our justification. God cannot come and require anything
else from us if He got it from His Son. And that's why you can
go into eternity and face God because God will not demand anything
from you because Christ done gave Him everything He demanded. He paid the uttermost price Oh, look what He said here in
Psalm 85, in verse 8. I will hear what God the Lord
will speak. Now listen to this. Listen to
what God's got to say. That's what He's saying. For
He'll speak peace unto His people and to His saints. But let them
not turn again to folly. Surely His salvation is nigh
them that fear Him, that glory may dwell in our land." Now listen
to this. Mercy and truth are met together. Where do they meet at? In Christ
on the cross. Mercy that reaches down and saves
the violence and truth that says God is holy, just, righteous,
mercy and truth meet together and all mercies in the hand of
Christ and truth in the hand of Christ and he brought them
together at the cross and made them reconcile together right
there and look what else he said righteousness And peace, what do they do? They
got one another and just kiss one another at the cross. Oh listen, righteousness that
demands that we have perfection, the very righteousness of God.
And God's peace who says I cannot give peace until peace has been
established through the death of my son. Then righteousness
and peace kiss one another at the cross. Oh my, truth gonna spring out
of the earth. Where does it spring at? In the
cross. Righteousness looks down from
heaven and says, I'm satisfied. I'm satisfied. Oh listen, let
me tell you something. God has to have a sacrifice worthy
of Himself. That's why nothing we can ever
give to Him or do for Him can ever satisfy Him. What have we
got that's worthy of God? Worthy of His holiness and His
righteousness? So God must have a sacrifice
worthy of Himself. And you know what that sacrifice
was? God says, Behold, I prepare a body. Sacrifice and offerings
thou wouldest not, so thou hast prepared a body. And then when he prepared that
body, he said, oh, when that body came into this world, he
said, I delight to do thy will, thy will, oh, I delight to do. And then he says that this man,
the Lord Jesus Christ, this man, after he had offered one sacrifice
for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God. He by
the sacrifice of himself put away sins once and for all. How? By the sacrifice of himself. How can he do that? Because he
was equal with God. He was worthy of God. And he
was obedient unto death. He made an end of sin. And he
brought in everlasting righteousness. Oh, the wisdom of God. You know,
we are so much saved by the mercy of God, the justice of God as
we are by the mercy of God. We are. We are. And oh, why did
He suffer these things on the cross and when we watched Him
there? Oh, the love of God. He revealed the love of God. He was treated that way because
He stood, not in His own place, not because He had any sin of
His own, because He is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate
from sinners, higher than the heavens. In Him was no sin. Father said, He doeth always
please me. Which of you convinces me of
sin? But oh, listen. God in His eternal and everlasting
love sent His Son into this world that His Son might be taken into
the hands of sinful men like us and be treated in the most
cruel and inhumane way that you can imagine. And since He stood
in the place of sinners as a substitute for sinners, He cannot be spared. He cannot be spared. God said,
I'll spare him not. And that awful justice of God
that barred the way to God has now been satisfied in such a
way that now we can say we've been saved as much by God's justice
as by His mercy. And I'll tell you, because of
our Lord Jesus Christ, substitutionary death. Let me ask you this. Have you ever seen Christ buried
in your sin? Buried in your sin. There was
a deacon that was in 13th Street for years and years and years
and years and years. Sat under Brother Mahan for years
and years and he was a deacon. I was in his home, I was around
him an awful lot. One of the sweetest men you ever
had around. One day he was went to a sale,
and he's on his way back, and he was listening to a message
about Christ crucified, Christ as a substitute, Christ as the
Lamb of God. And God opened his heart, and
he said, this is the first time I ever saw Christ dying for me. I understood he died for sinners,
but I never ever understood that he died for me. Of all the people
in this building today, of all the people in this building today,
as far as I know, I'm the only one that can look to Christ and
say, when He died, He had my sins on Him and my love. I saw Him, I see Him, I know! I know God revealed the Father
to me in such a way, the wisdom of God and the love of God in
such a way that I know that what He bore on that tree was my sins. And God ain't going to come after
me for nothing except to take me home to be with Him and enjoy
Him forever. That's the only thing I'm going
to ever get from God from now on. Oh, bless His name. Huh? Oh, listen. You know how you
can find out if Christ died for you? Are you looking to Him and Him
alone? Do you trust Him and Him alone? Do you only have His righteousness? Do you never ever look to yourself
for anything? Do you abhor it when you have
a good thought about yourself and you say, Oh God, how did
that come in there? Do you cry in your heart, Oh
Lord, save me, I want to be saved, I want to be saved, I want to
be saved, I want to be saved. If you ever saved, you always
want to be saved. I am, I am, and I am, and I am,
and I am being saved one of these days. I'll be plus eight. And our Lord Jesus Christ came
to reveal this knowledge of God, the wisdom of God, the love of
God, there on that blessed cross, dying for sinners. And the knowledge
of God is revealed in the person of Christ. And now we see Him
reigning, sitting at the right hand of the Father in power and
in glory. He's no longer the man of sorrow. He's no longer humiliated. He's
on His throne now and He's reigning in power and He's reigning in
glory. There's a man right now, a man.
The same man that was on that cross, the same man that died,
the same man was put in the grave. They came out of that grave,
says right now, there's a man sitting up there. And you can see, they saw a man
in Revelation. And we're going to see a man
in glory. I love him on his throne. I love him on his throne. Love
him in his glory and all power and authority is in him. Now
he is now the God-man exalted above all and carrying out his
will in this world. And in him the fullness of the
Godhead dwells. And from him Now enthroned in
glory, He reveals God. And you know what He reveals
Him of as? As the God of grace. 1 Peter 5, 10 says this, Now the
God of all grace. If there is any grace, it's got
to come from God. Oh, the God of all grace, that
means manifold grace. Manifold grace. That means grace
in every way, coming in every way, shape, form, and fashion.
It comes to centers in this world. Calling grace, it calls us from
darkness to light. It calls us from death to life.
Saving grace, it comes and saves us. It keeps us saved. When we
fall and stumble and find our way flat on our face, grace reaches
down and restores us. Grace preserves us in our greatest
fights of afflictions. Grace is given to worthless,
helpless sinners. Salvation from first to last. is of grace, grace and more grace. You know grace? We have before
grace to give us grace. Now what do you mean by that
preacher? There's what they call providian grace. That grace that
goes before grace. And I'll give you an illustration
of it in the scriptures. You remember when Cornelius was
praying and he says, now you send over to Joppa and there's
a fellow by the name of Peter and he'll come over here and
tell you what you must hear to be saved. Now God in grace went
there and made him understand that he had to go over here and
get dispelled. So grace went there to have him prepared and
then the message of grace came when Peter came over there. And
that's what happens to us. Grace goes before grace to make
us want grace. Let me show you this is 2nd Timothy
we've seen this so many times, but I want you to see it again
I've quoted it and quoted it and quoted 2nd Timothy 1 9. Oh My This grace that we're talking
about is in the Lord Jesus Christ And it's revealed by him He reveals
God is the God of all grace. Love, grace. Look what he said
here in 2 Timothy 1.9. He's talking about the power
of God in the gospel. Who has saved us. Every time
God talks about salvation in the New Testament, it's always
in the last tense. who has saved us and called us
with a holy calling. Since he's a holy God, that's
the only thing he can do. And he called us not according
to our works. He said, well, I see them fellows
working real good. I can see their works. I can
see how good they are. I can see how wonderful, you
know, all the works you do, but not according to our works. He
said, I don't see any works you do. Listen to this, but according
to his own purpose and grace which was given us in Christ
Jesus, when? Before the world began. But now watch this, that ain't
it, that ain't all of it. But it's now made manifest, this
grace, this purpose. This calling, this salvation
is now made manifest by the appearing of our Savior, Jesus Christ,
who when He came into this world, He abolished death. Did you hear
that? Death is abolished. You're not
allowed. You got no power. You got no
authority. And what not when He abolished
death, He brought life? And immortality and life were
through the gospel. Where do we get this life from?
Where do we get this revelation? He brought it to us through the
gospel. Through the gospel. Well, I'm taking too long. Let
me tell you this. Our Lord Jesus Christ, when He
comes to reveal the Father, He revealed the power of God to
power to give life. To raise dead sinners from the
dead. Power to sustain life and give strength to all those that
believe in Him. And He came to reveal the riches
of God. And you know where God's wealth
is at? It's in the Lord Jesus Christ. All of His experiences.
How rich do you reckon the Lord Jesus is? How rich do you reckon
He is? There's people that they don't
have it, you know, they can measure their money in this world. Say
they can't. But do you have any idea how
rich Christ is? And you know, and listen, ever
how rich he is, that's how rich we are. Whatever he is, we have. Ain't that right? You talk about wealth. This is
true wealth. I've got more than I could have
ever imagined in five lifetimes. I've got more than enough. But
you know what I consider my true wealth? The Lord Jesus Christ
and my relationship with Him. That's where my true riches are. And I tell you what, He owns
our names. He says, look at you. I'm not
ashamed to call him my brother. The Lord Jesus Christ looks at
you, Herbert, and says, I'm not ashamed to call him my brother. That's my brother down there. I'm just going to quote this
and let it go. You know I said He reveals the
Father by His person, but He also reveals the Father by the
Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit has come,
He takes the things of Christ and reveals them unto us. Oh,
the knowledge of God. The knowledge of knowing God.
Being revealed of God. Our Father, in the blessed name
of Christ our Lord, thank you for allowing us to meet here
today. Oh, thank you for your gospel. Thank you for your truth.
Thank you for the joy of this blessed salvation. And oh, God,
for Christ's sake, for Christ's sake, make the gospel powerful
and effectual. Thank you, Lord. Blessed be your
name. Amen. He's the Savior of my soul
Jesus, my Jesus He's the Savior of my soul He's the Savior of my soul. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus. my soul. He's the Savior of my soul. You're delivery to go and I'll
see you tonight, six o'clock, God willing.
