What does the Bible say about perilous times?

The Bible warns in 2 Timothy 3:1 that perilous times will come in the last days, emphasizing the importance of focusing on Christ.

In 2 Timothy 3:1, the Scripture clearly states, "This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come." This warning highlights a future period marked by moral decay and various challenges facing believers. While many interpret current world events, such as pandemics and civil unrest, as 'perilous,' the real peril lies in allowing these distractions to divert our focus away from Christ.

The essence of perilous times is not just the external chaos but the internal struggle believers face when tempted to become fixated on societal issues rather than on Christ. The apostolic encouragement is to remain obsessed with the preaching of Christ and Him crucified, as that is what ultimately sustains our souls regardless of earthly troubles. Even when the circumstances around us are tumultuous, knowing and resting in Christ becomes our anchor during these perilous times.

2 Timothy 3:1, Isaiah 45:9

How do we know that trusting Christ is important?

Trusting Christ is vital for Christians as it keeps our focus on eternal truths rather than fleeting worldly matters.

Believers are constantly reminded of the significance of trusting Christ, particularly in the face of life's challenges and uncertainties. In perilous times, it becomes even more crucial to redirect our attention from the chaos of the world back to the centrality of Christ in our lives. The depth of our trust in Him provides stability and peace amid external turmoil.

The message of the New Testament urges Christians to prioritize their relationship with Christ, underscoring that all earthly concerns will eventually fade, but the knowledge of Christ will endure forever. By focusing on Christ and His promises, believers find clarity and strength to navigate through trials. It is our trust in Him that transforms our perspective, allowing us to rise above societal distractions and remain anchored in the eternal truth of the Gospel.

Philippians 3:8-9, Colossians 3:1-3

Why is knowing Christ important for Christians?

Knowing Christ is essential for Christians as it forms the foundation of faith and aligns our lives with God's purpose.

The knowledge of Christ serves as the profound foundation for a Christian's faith, guiding our actions, decisions, and responses to the world around us. In perilous times filled with uncertainty and distraction, knowing Christ becomes crucial for several reasons. Firstly, it ensures that our hearts are set on things above rather than on earthly distractions that may lead us away from our primary calling.

Furthermore, engaging deeply with the knowledge of Christ enriches our faith. Believers are called to be obsessed with knowing Him and resting in His promises, which provides both assurance and direction. This relationship not only fortifies our own souls but also empowers us to reach out to others amidst societal chaos. In essence, the importance of knowing Christ cannot be overstated as it is the source of life, hope, and mission for Christians in an ever-chaotic world.

Philippians 3:10, John 17:3

“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.” - II Timothy 3:1

I imagine most people would say that we are living in perilous times right now. These are not perilous days because of the pandemic gripping the world. These are not perilous days because of civil unrest caused by man’s hateful nature. These are perilous days because of the many issues that take our attention off of Christ. May God be pleased to stop us from becoming obsessed with society’s issues and make us obsessed with knowing and trusting Christ. May God be pleased to give us the wisdom to not become obsessed with how to govern the world (Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. (Isaiah 45:9)) and make us obsessed with the preaching of Christ and Him crucified. May God be pleased to make us obsessed with knowing Christ and resting in Him. In a few short days all of these earthly events will be forgotten, but knowing Christ will still be all important to our souls.
