What does the Bible say about overcoming the world?

In 1 John 5, we learn that 'whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world, and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith' (1 John 5:4). This means that true believers, those who have received new life through faith in Christ, can overcome the corrupting influences of the world. The victory is not found in our strength or efforts but is rooted in our faith in Jesus as the Son of God. His victory over sin and death imparts to us the ability to resist worldly temptations, thereby demonstrating that we are children of God.
