What does the Bible say about the law and the gospel?

Answered in 3 sources

The Bible teaches that the law reveals our inability to meet its demands and leads to despair, while the gospel offers grace and the hope of liberation from sin.

The law, as articulated in Scripture, functions primarily to highlight humanity's sinfulness and inability to achieve righteousness through its commands. This results in fear and dread of condemnation, essentially revealing our need for a Savior. In contrast, the gospel, rooted in grace, assures believers of Christ's redemptive work which liberates them from the curse of the law and empowers them to overcome sin. The relationship is clear: the law cannot make us perfect (Hebrews 7:19), but the gospel presents Christ as the only means of salvation and victory over sin.
