The name of the message is Three
Wonderful Truths. Turn in your Bible, if you would,
to John chapter 10, and we'll read verse 28, where I'd like
us to consider three wonderful, comforting truths in this verse. This is a short verse, but there's
so much in this verse, it's absolutely amazing. And this is the words
of the master, the Lord Jesus Christ. John chapter 10, verse
28, he says of his sheep, his people, his elect, he says
this, And I give unto them eternal life, and they shall never perish,
neither shall any man pluck them out of my Father's hands. Now
these wonderful words are spoke by He who is God incarnate in
the flesh, the Word of God, the Lord Jesus Christ, These are
not the words of a mere man, as some people say, or a good
teacher, as some people say. He was the greatest teacher.
These are the words of God in the flesh. The word of God left
the glory and splendors of heaven and became a man and dwelt among
us, beloved. And he accomplished salvation
2,000 years ago. I preach a work that's already
done. It's already complete. And these
wonderful words are spoken by he who is God incarnated in the
flesh. Let's read them again. John chapter
10, verse 28. And I give unto them eternal
life and they shall never perish. Notice that wonderful little
word shall. Neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
Oh my, what comfort, what assurance we can find here as the people
of God, as the elect of God. Take note of these three wonderful
truths. They will give the born-again,
blood-washed people of God great comfort, and they'll give us
assurance of salvation. You ever doubted your salvation?
Well, we usually doubt because of us and something we do. Our salvation is based upon what
Christ has done. We have to keep reminding ourselves
that, don't we? We have to keep reminding ourselves
that our salvation, our security, is not found in us, it's found
in Christ, the God-man, the Lord Jesus Christ. And what assurance
of eternal salvation is in these words? All because of the Lord
Jesus Christ and what he has accomplished. And we will see
that God himself, the Lord Jesus Christ, gives us assurance of
not only our eternal security, but also our preservation. We
know we can't keep ourselves, but praise be to God, Christ
will keep us. And he will take us home, beloved,
every single one of his blood-washed children. Oh my. And we only know this now because
we're born again and God's given us an understanding of the scriptures
and we marvel at this, don't we? We marvel that we're born
again blood-washed people of God. Oh, this is wonderful. And this
assurance, this eternal security is only in and through the Lord
Jesus Christ. Let's read John 10, 28 again.
And I give unto them eternal life, and they shall never perish,
neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. John 10, 28.
So the first point of the three wonderful truths, the first truth
I'd like to bring forth is this. I'd like us to consider from
this verse that eternal life is a gift from God. It's not
something we earn. It's not something we can obtain
by anything we do. It's a gift from God, and it
is only found in the Lord Jesus Christ. He obtained eternal redemption
for his people. He shed his precious blood to
redeem our eternal souls. And now the Lord Jesus Christ
is God in the flesh, and eternal life is a gift of God, not of
works, lest any man should boast. And we see here in this verse
who is the giver of eternal life. Look what it says. And I give
unto them eternal life. We don't seek it, the scripture
says. There's none of us that's worthy of it. We don't certainly
merit it. But it's Christ who obtained eternal salvation, and
it's Christ who gives it. Look at that. Isn't this wonderful?
And I give unto them eternal life. This is bringing forth,
you're seeing this verse, it's bringing forth the salvations
of the Lord. It's all His doing, in the planning, execution, everything. Application, it's all Him. It's
all Him. And look what the Lord Jesus
Christ proclaims of His sheep, that He gives them eternal life. Look at that, I give unto them
eternal life. That's to every born-again, blood-washed
saint. Who's the giver of eternal life?
Christ is. Christ is. Eternal life comes
to man as a matter of grace, beloved. There's nothing to show
this. It's, it's... He says, you haven't
chosen me, I chose you. Because none of us would choose
him. So we see that it's God's grace that brings this to us.
Right? For by grace do you say through
faith, and that not of yourselves, it's a gift of God, not of works,
lest any man should boast. There was nothing in our hearts,
nothing in our conduct, which caused God to bestow eternal
life upon us. He has loved his people with
an everlasting love. Therefore, in loving kindness,
he bestowed upon us the gift of eternal life. And there's
nothing, again, there's absolutely nothing in the believer's life
or conduct or heart which causes God to give Eternal life to us, and think
of this, there's nothing in our life that causes God to take
away eternal life from us. Isn't that wonderful? Oh, what
assurance we have, beloved. Oh, what assurance. Oh, the gifts. What does the scripture say?
The gifts and the calling of God are what? Without repentance.
That means he won't take them away. He's the giver of eternal
life. He's not going to say, well,
you blew it, Wayne. I'm taking it away now. He doesn't say that.
And you put your own name in there. He doesn't say that. Because
the gifts and callings of God are without repentance. When
our Lord says, look what, and this is the Lord saying this,
I give unto them eternal life. So we see that this gift of eternal
life is entirely the work of God. It's in no way earned or
dependent upon the receiver. or the goodness of man, because
there's none good, no, not one. Therefore, to whom eternal life
is given, they're eternally secure in Christ. Those who eternal
life is given, they're eternally secure in Christ. So marvel at
this. Marvel at this, beloved of God. Eternal life is in God and from
God. And God is eternal. He can't
be destroyed, can he? He always has been and always
will be. Therefore, the giver is eternal, God. Therefore, the
life that he gives is eternal as well. Oh, isn't that wonderful? The next truth I'd like to consider
is the divine promise in this text. Oh, we see all who the
Lord Jesus Christ saves and gives eternal life By his own words,
they shall never perish. What a promise, beloved. What
a promise. Now, we're going to die in this
life, right? But what that means is we're not going to fall away
and not be saved. Now, foolhardy people say they
can jump out of God's hands or jump. They don't know Christ.
They don't know Christ. They can say, oh, you can gain
salvation and then lose it. That's not gospel salvation.
That's not biblical salvation. That's man-made salvation. And
that salvation is dependent upon them. If you listen to them,
it's something that they do that supposedly causes them. They
say, well, no one can pluck you out of God's hand, but you can
jump. Well, that's not what the scripture
says in our text, does it? Oh, no. They're putting words
onto scripture that's not even there. But what a wonderful promise. And think of this. This is a
blanket promise to all of God's elect. Do you know that? If you're one of God's elect,
this is a promise to you. This is wonderful. Look at this. And
I give unto them eternal life, and they shall never perish.
That's a promise, that's a promise to all of God's elect through
all the ages, beloved. They shall never perish. Oh my. What do you mean if I, if, if,
if I sin and, and I sin grievously and, and then I repent, God's not
going to just cast me away? Nope. Now that's not a license
to go out and do whatever we want. Absolutely not. Absolutely
not But i'll tell you what our salvation is totally secure in
christ. It's not dependent upon us It's
totally dependent upon the lord jesus christ and he says of those
he gives eternal life to they shall never perish You know what
because he got him He saved us we didn't save ourselves Oh my
He says, concerning all the sheep, I give unto them eternal life,
and they shall never perish. Why? Because they're his sheep.
And because they're his sheep, they'll never perish. Well, what
if their faith is in Christ and their faith is weak? They shall
never perish. Well, what if their young men
and their passions are strong? They shall never perish. What
if their old men and their vision grows dim? They shall never perish.
What if they're tempted and tried? They shall never perish. What
if they sin? They shall never perish. What
if they fall? They shall never perish. What
if they sin again? They shall never perish. Oh my,
isn't this wonderful? This promise takes in all the
flock of the elect of all the ages. They shall never perish. Isn't that wonderful? Not one of Christ's sheep shall
ever perish. Not one, not even one. Marvel
at the mercy shown to all the elect of God. If you're a believer,
if you trust Jesus Christ, the Son of God is your Lord and Savior.
If you've received eternal life from Him, you shall never perish.
That's the words of Christ. That's something for us to hold
on to, isn't it? Oh, it's wonderful. It's not possible for a child
of God to sin away the grace of God bestowed upon him. Because
Christ our Savior, who saved us and given us eternal life,
says of us, they shall never perish. My, oh my. Now the last wonderful truth
in this verse is divine security. Divine security. Spurgeon used
to say, if I could lose my salvation, I'd lose it a thousand times
a day, just from getting out of bed and going to the breakfast
table. Marvel at these wonderful words.
Marvel at the divine security set forth before us in this verse. Neither shall any man pluck them
out of my hand. Let we who are the dean praise
our great savior who has purchased us with his precious, precious
blood, has regenerated us by the power of God the Holy Spirit.
We who are the people of God have been saved from all our
sins, and we're clothed now in the perfect, spotless righteousness
of Christ. We're preserved in the hand of
omnipotent grace, and all the born-again, blood-washed people
of God are in Christ's hands, beloved. They're in His hands.
We're in His hands, so marvel at this truth. We're in the hands
of Christ. We're in the hands of God the
Son. We're in the hands of the Word of God. We're in the hands
of our Savior, and we will always be in His hands. And what a blessed
peace, because we are in his hands, we shall never perish.
Oh, it's wonderful. So let we who are the redeemed
of the Lord rejoice. Let us rejoice in the Lord Jesus
Christ, because of covenant mercies whereby God's elect were given
to Christ by the Father, he became our surety, beloved. because
of Christ's perfect obedience in all things, whereby we receive
a perfect righteousness, because of his death, resurrection, and
intercession, whereby we are justified before God in such
a way that God's character and justice are fully honored. God promises his sheep eternal
life through the Lord Jesus Christ. So marvel, as God in the flesh
tells his sheep. That's who's speaking here. God
in the flesh tells his sheep, they shall never perish, now
or eternally. We're going to die physically,
but we'll never perish and go to the lake of fire. Never. Never. And no man, no demon, no power,
no force can separate us from Christ, from that union with
the Lord Jesus Christ. Such marvelous grace compels
the born-again blood-washed believer to offer ourselves up wholly
to Christ, and to offer up praises to our great God, who deserves
all the glory, honor, and praise. And the true experience of saving
grace produces gratitude in the heart. And gratitude produces
dedication to Christ, who promises of his sheep, they shall never
perish. Amen and amen.
