The Bible assures us that the Lord defends those who trust in Him for salvation.
In Zechariah 3, we find a vivid illustration of the Lord's defense of His people through the figure of Joshua, the high priest. Just as Joshua stood before God, accused by Satan, believers today can take comfort that God defends us through Christ, our great High Priest. As the Lord rebukes the accuser, He reaffirms that those who trust in Jesus are protected and justified in His sight. Our confidence is not in our righteousness, but in Christ's complete work on our behalf, showing that the Lord genuinely defends His chosen people.
Zechariah 3:1-5, John 17:9
We know we are chosen by faith, which is the evidence of God's grace in our lives.
To discern if one is chosen by God, one must look to faith as the evidence of election. It is faith in Christ as our Lord and Savior that indicates we are part of His people. The assurance of our choosing is rooted not in our works or feelings, but in our trust in the finished work of Christ. In John 15:16, Jesus said, 'You did not choose me, but I chose you,' affirming that our salvation is firmly in His hands. When we believe in Jesus, we find confidence that we are part of those whom the Lord defends and preserves.
John 15:16, Ephesians 1:4-5
Faith is essential as it connects believers to Christ's redemptive work for salvation.
In the Christian faith, belief in Jesus is foundational because it ensures that we are relying on His righteousness rather than our own. Faith allows us to receive the benefits of Christ's sacrifice—our justification, sanctification, and ultimate salvation. Ephesians 2:8-9 reminds us that we are saved by grace through faith, marking it as a vital component of our relationship with God. Without faith, we cannot truly rest in the assurance of our salvation, which is solely dependent on Jesus, who intercedes for us as our High Priest.
Ephesians 2:8-9, Hebrews 4:14-16
