Let's take our Bibles and turn
to the book of Proverbs chapter 10. Proverbs chapter 10. Beginning in this particular
chapter. Until the end of this book. The
Spirit of God has been pleased. To write. these verses and to
set forth the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ in actually its
spiritual lessons that are set forth from moral principles. And the Proverbs, blessed by
the Spirit of God, will always draw us to the person of the
Lord Jesus Christ. Now, you know that. You know
that when you read these, we'll look at these Proverbs. I'm just
going to look at one verse today. I'm going to look at the first
verse of chapter 10. And if we see not the Lord Jesus
Christ, if we see not God's glory, God's purpose, God's wisdom,
God's thoughts, God's accomplishment, if we see not that in these scriptures,
well, then they're just. Just nice little suggestions,
I mean, it's just, you know. People can read these these Proverbs
and they as they're reading the Proverbs, it appears as though. That you read these Proverbs
and You would think that anybody can figure that out. Anybody
could. Anybody will know that. But we've
got to stop and realize that remember. Whenever one of the
disciples. Ask the Lord. Concerning. Him preaching in parables and
the scripture said. That except in parables. He didn't
preach. He preached in parables. He preached
proverbs. Why, Lord, do you preach in these
parables, in these proverbs? This was his answer. Because
it's given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven,
but to them it's not given. Based upon his word, this book,
I'm talking about not just the book of Proverbs, I'm talking
about this book, this entire Bible, is a hidden book. I was reading something the other
day that I'm considering preparing a message out of the book of
Daniel. And Lord willing, if the Lord
wills, I'll prepare a message out of Daniel 2 when Nebuchadnezzar
had a dream and it perplexed him. And he wanted to get the
interpretation of that dream. And so he called all the wise
men, soothsayers, Chaldeans and stuff. By the time they got there,
Nebuchadnezzar had forgotten the dream. Forgot what it was. So he called them in. One of
the Chaldeans came in and he said, OK. The Chaldean said,
tell me the dream. And Nebuchadnezzar said, I forgot.
Nebuchadnezzar said, you tell me the dream. You're the wise
guy. You tell me the dream and tell
me the interpretation. Chaldean said, I can't. I can't
do that. You got to tell me what the dream
was first. And then Nebuchadnezzar said,
you don't tell me the dream and the interpretation. I'm going
to kill you. And I'm going to kill all the
wise men in Babylon. He said, well, now that's just
that just that ain't right. Well, as providence would have
it, That decree got down to Daniel. And the Lord showed Daniel the
dream and the interpretation. And Daniel came before Nebuchadnezzar. And Daniel was very careful to
make sure that Almighty God received the honor, the glory, and the
praise of that which he was about to say unto Nebuchadnezzar. And this is what he said, and
this is the scripture that I'd like to, Lord willing, preach
on, not this morning, but it's what Daniel said. There's a God
in heaven that reveals secrets. That's the truth of what we're
about to look at. There's a God in heaven that
reveals secrets. Verse 1 of Proverbs 10 says this,
the Proverbs of Solomon. Pinned by Solomon? Yes. Pinned by him. But the source
of those words right there, the Proverbs of Solomon, the source
of those words is the Spirit of God. Now you know that. Holy
men of God wrote as they were moved upon by the Spirit of God,
by the Holy Ghost. Solomon had no ability to even
write that. You say, it says the Proverbs
of Solomon. That's correct. But I want you
to also remember the words of our Lord. who in Matthew 12,
42 says, Behold, a greater than Solomon is here. He who is in this place, he who
is in the midst of his people, two or three are gathered together. He gave that response, a greater
than Solomon is here. He gave that response when the
Lord related how the Queen of the south, the Queen of Sheba,
had come from the uttermost part of the earth to hear the wisdom
of Solomon. And the Lord rebuked the scribes
and the Pharisees. You know, they wanted a sign.
And He said, an evil and adulterous generation seeks a sign. No sign
will be given except the sign of the prophet Jonas. Three days,
three nights in the whale's belly. So shall the Son of Man be three
days, three nights in the belly of the earth. You look for a
sign. There's the sign. He said that Queen, that Queen
of Sheba, she's going to rise up in judgment with this generation
and condemn it and every other generation. She came to prove, to hear for
herself. She came to prove Solomon with
some hard questions. This is the Proverbs. This is
the setting forth. These are the parables of the
Lord Jesus Christ, of greater than Solomon. And this is what
He says. I'm going to look at two boys. Two boys, it says in this first
verse. And this is what the wisdom of
God has to say. This is what Christ has to say.
He says, A wise son maketh a glad father. A wise son maketh a glad father.
Now you know, no doubt, no doubt, there is no children brought up under
spiritual teaching. Timothy. That's what Brother
Scott read this morning. There was a young boy, Timothy.
Paul wrote to him and he said, I'm writing to you. He said, you're brought up. He
said, your mama and your grandma. They taught you the Scriptures,
Scriptures that made you wise unto salvation. God Almighty blessed those Scriptures
and called you out of darkness. Oh, you've been a faithful servant,
Timothy. I know that his mom and grandma
were thankful. I know they were. And I know
for a fact that there is no son, no daughter made wise unto salvation,
quickened by the Spirit of God, faithful, faithful, faithful,
that doesn't cheer the heart of their mom and daddy. Oh, how
thankful! God would call that. I pray God
save my kids. I pray God save my grandkids. I've got kids and grandkids. I pray the Lord save them. How
thankful unto Him who has given us of Himself. But let me ask
you this. What son is a wise son like Him
who is wisdom Himself? That's what the Lord said in
chapter 8 of Proverbs, verse 1. Doth not wisdom cry? Doth not wisdom? Look at verse
22 of chapter 8. The Lord possessed me in the
beginning of His way. Wisdom is the Lord Jesus Christ
Himself. He is the wise Son. He it is that was set up, anointed,
the prophet, the priest, the king. His Father anointed Him. He who would in time be made
flesh. Wisdom Himself. He who absolutely,
Prudence. Remember what prudence means?
The ability to know how to accomplish. The best way to accomplish. I gave you that example. A general
may know that the purpose is to win the battle, win the war,
but a wise general, Gary, knows how to do it. We'll flank them. We'll do a frontal assault. I'll
bombard them with artillery. He knows how to do it. Almighty
God, in His everlasting purpose, gave all authority unto the Son. All power in heaven and earth
is given unto the Son, the wise Son, and the Father, as we said
in last service here, who first trusted in Him. Oh, the wisdom
of God, He who is set forth, sent into this world, born of
woman, made under the flesh, came forth, flesh and blood,
just like His elect, and lived before God's law and in absolute
perfection and holiness. He walked before God Almighty. And there was the wise son and
the father says, this is my beloved son and I am well pleased with
him. A wise son maketh a glad father. All that was found in him, the
father was pleased. All that the father had given
unto his hand, this is what the wise son said. I've lost nothing. All that you've given Me, they're going to come to Me.
And Him that cometh to Me, I will in no wise cast out." That was
the Father's elect. That was the bride that the Father
had chosen. Chose Him. Gave Him to the Son. The Son in absolute wisdom. according to the will of His
Father, went to the cross." We just looked at it. Made sin. Oh, how can God be just and justify
a sinner? Here's what the wise son did.
He was made sin. And in absolute wisdom and obedience
and faithfulness, he took upon himself His soul was made an
offering for sin. And He put away the guilt of
all that the Father had everlastingly loved. The Father forsook Him that He would not forsake Me.
And the wise Son made sin, died, under the judgment of God. The
soulless sinner is going to die. In him was no sin, but he was
made sin. Great mystery. Three days in the grave, the
wise son, the penalty of the law was satisfied. God's law,
Mike, was honored. Oh, what wisdom! Three days later,
he came out of that grave. And all that went in with him,
chosen in him, died with him, Paul said, oh, what wisdom! How can I put away the guilt
of all of his leg? They died with him. Three days
later, he came out of that grave justified, shown before Almighty
God, heaven and hell, There's no condemnation now. Death has
been satisfied. Law has been satisfied. Death
has been accomplished. Sin has had its penalty shown. It's over. It's over. This was
settled before the foundation of the world. In time, it's accomplished. Oh, what wisdom. What wisdom. Now He's ascended into heaven.
Our great High Priest. God Almighty. Man. Totally God, totally man. And
now he sits finished at the right hand of
the Father. Interceding. Able to touch. God and men. What wisdom. A wise son maketh a glad father. Can you imagine The gladness of the Father. He trusted the Son. And the Son
accomplished that which His Father purposed eternally with Almighty God,
with those that He has everlastingly loved. Why a son? But a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother. the grief, the sorrow of his
mother. You know, I look at the wise
son, the Lord Jesus Christ, making glad a father. I can see that family. That's the family of God. That's
the family of That's the family of glory. That's the family of
the redeemed. That's the family of heaven.
That's the heavenly Jerusalem. I can see that, Father. I can
see that family. But this mother here, what family is that? Genesis 3.20 gives us, I think,
some insight into this. It says, called his wife's name
Eve, living is what that means, because she was the mother of
all living. This mother that is spoken of
right here in this sense is talking about all mankind. Eve was the
mother. of all living, mankind, humanity,
everybody. Let me say it like this. Everybody. Everybody. Everybody born. Everybody
born. Elect. They're redeemed by the wise
Son. But those that are foolish, left to themselves to do that
which they desire to do. want to do. And everybody does
what they want to do. A believer, I'll tell you what
they want to do. Number one, they want to know
more of their Lord. They desire to serve Him, be
faithful to Him, walk after Him. They desire to hear of Him. It's
not a drudgery for a believer to want to hear of their Master.
It's not a drudgery for a believer to call upon Him in their heart,
in their closet, while they're driving down the road. It's not
a drudgery to pray. It's not a drudgery to pick up
the Scriptures and read the Scriptures and look for Him on every line.
It's not a drudgery to hear the Gospel preached and rejoice in
Christ. That's not a drudgery. That's
a privilege. That's an honor. That's a joy.
That's a happiness. That's a cheering of the heart. but one foolish, one left to
himself in arrogance and pride. He is the heaviness. He is the
grief. He is the sorrow, the affliction of his mother, that
is, of all mankind. Romans 14.10 says, We shall all
stand before the judgment of Christ. There is coming a day
when all men are going to stand before God. And in that day, the Scripture says in Revelation
20, verse 12, the books are going to be opened. And the book. And men are going to be judged
out of those things which are written in the books according
to their works. If a man bases his salvation
before God upon his ability, his works, his worth, his goodness,
his righteousness, their works are going to be set
forth as this, Depart from me, ye that work
iniquity. I never knew you. The Scripture says in that day,
all that stand in themselves, all that stand without a substitute,
all that stand without Christ, they are going to be found to
be the sorrow, the silliness, the heaviness, the foolishness,
of mankind, their mother. Oh, but for those whose name
is found written in the Book of Life, all those that the Father
has everlastingly loved, all those that God the Father entrusted
to the wise Son, unto those They're going to make a glad
father. The Lord Jesus Christ will in that day say unto him, Father, I and the
children that you gave me, we're all here. Enter in to the kingdom
that the Father has prepared for you from before the foundation
of the world. A wise son makes a glad father,
but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother. May the Lord bless
these words to our heart and to our understanding for His
honor and glory and for our good. Amen.
