The sermon titled "The Prosperous Ride of Christ" by Fred Evans focuses on the victorious reign of Christ as depicted in Psalm 45:4. The preacher argues that Christ is the fairest among men and the anointed King who has come to battle for the deliverance of His people from sin, Satan, and worldly influences. He emphasizes Christ's completed work of salvation, drawing from various Scripture passages such as Romans 8:28 and Galatians 4:6, illustrating God's sovereign election and the work of the Holy Spirit in sanctifying believers. The doctrinal significance of this message aligns with key Reformed doctrines, affirming the total depravity of humanity and the particular atonement of Christ for the elect only, which offers assurance of salvation to all who have faith in Him.

If you take your Bibles and turn
with me again to Psalm 45. Psalm 45. Our text will be found
in verse 4, but I want to read these first four verses together
again. Psalm 45. Entitled this message,
The Prosperous Ride of Christ. The word begins by this, my heart
is indicting, gushing, a good matter. I speak of the things
which I have made touching the King." This, no doubt, is the
word of God the Father speaking through the prophet here. The
heart of God is indicting a good matter, and the good matter is
the King, Christ, His Son. And he says, my tongue is the
pen of a ready writer. And he begins to describe then
the Son of God. He begins to describe Christ.
He says, thou art fairer than the children of man. This king
that God has anointed, that God is speaking about, is the fairest
among men. The Son of God condescended to
be made a man. And when He was made in the flesh,
He was truly the fairest among men. He was the fairest among
men. Notice this, He is God's prophet. He says grace is poured into
thy lips. This when Christ came into the
world, He preaching the gospel expounded and expelled the shadows
and types and pictures. He is the bright and morning
star. The world lived under shadows
and types in the Old Testament, but when Christ came, the light
shone on these things. He says, I am the fulfillment
of all of these pictures, all of these shadows and types. Therefore, God hath blessed thee
forever And notice verse 3 he says that
the king is to prepare for war He said gird on thy sword upon
thy fire. Oh most mighty With thy glory
and thy majesty when Christ came into the world he came as God
here declares a conquering king That's not what men saw That's
not what men thought of him. They thought of him as impoverished. They thought of him as weak.
They thought of him as being despised in their eyes. But he was no man to be despised. God says, Thou art the most mighty. And you're going to gird on your
sword and do battle. Now the reason for this battle
is because of the captivity of his people. The king has come
to do battle in order to deliver his people. We, by nature, were
captives. And God, in mercy, in grace,
we sold ourselves into slavery. And God, in mercy, sent his king
to deliver us. He's come to defeat his enemies
and God here in our text he declares this that he shall be successful
When Christ the fairest among men should come into the world
as the king grace poured into his lips bless God bless forever
came into the world and God here in our text look what he says
as he comes to battle God declares, in thy majesty, ride prosperously. Prosperously. Victoriously. That word prosper, it's a very
simple word. It means to succeed in an enterprise. That's one definition of prosper.
Success. Ride in success. what God declares. The second
meaning of this word is to flourish. Whatever is successful flourishes,
flourishes. And we're going to see how Christ
was successful in saving his people. And secondly, we're going
to see how that salvation will flourish. It will prosper. And none can defeat it. None
can defeat it. So first thing I want you to
see is this, that Christ, as God decreed, has already ridden
prosperously. He's already ridden prosperously. Now, Psalm 47 says this, clap
your hands all you people, shout unto God with a voice of triumph. Why is God's people to be so
happy, so successful? Why are we to shout with success
and triumph? Listen, for the Lord Most High
is terrible. He's fearful. He is to be reverenced. And this one who is terrible,
he is a great king over all the earth. The God we worship is
absolutely sovereign in every minute detail. Everything that happens in this
life is under the sovereign will and decree of God Almighty. And listen what this sovereign
king, this terrible Lord says. He says, I will subdue the people. He shall subdue the people under
us. and the nations under our feet.
In other words, all the enemies of God's people, you listen,
you shout, you rejoice, for he who's sovereign says this, he
is going to put all enemies under our feet. It don't appear like
that right now, does it? It feels like I'm under everybody
else's foot. That's not how it really is.
The king of glory said, I'm gonna put everybody under your feet.
All your enemies, sin, Satan, the world, I'm gonna put them
under your feet. And listen, he shall choose our
inheritance for us. You know, God's already chosen
your inheritance. You know where it is? Himself. He said, I am thy exceeding great
reward. Believer, this should always
be our heart shout that Christ, because of Christ's victory,
he has subdued all things under us. He, by his mighty hand, has cut
off the head of the serpent. He has destroyed the works of
the devil. Satan, Jesus Christ, our mighty
Savior, has accomplished the removal of all our sin and guilt
from us. He did this by burying our sins
in his own body on the tree. Isn't that astounding? Before
I actually committed any of them. There, ashamedly, are going to
be many more. If I live past today, there will
be many more sins that I have not yet done. And yet he said
this, he bore them in his own body on the tree. The justice
of God is already solved. and the justice of God has already
been executed for them. Jesus Christ, our Savior, was
victorious. He has satisfied the wrath of
God for our sins and satisfied the law of righteousness for
our obedience. This is why Jesus said to his
disciples, he said this, let not your heart be troubled. Imagine that. He already knew
my heart was going to be troubled. It is troubled. And notice he said, you believe
in God. I know you do. I know you believe in God. Listen,
believe also in me. He was going to tell them, I
am God. That's what he was going to get to with Philip. In just
a minute, Philip said, show it to father. Philip, if I've not
been with you so long, you don't know this, that I'm God. You believe in God, believe also
in me. I am God. Let not your heart be troubled. In my father's house are many
mansions. If it were not so, I would have
told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place,
I will come again and receive you unto myself. Does that sound
like a loser? Does that sound like someone
who's not successful, not sure of themselves? No. God said, ride prosperously.
And Christ said, I will ride prosperously. Everyone I determined
to save, I am going to save. I'm going to save. Who are these
that he would save? Behold the utter depravity of
his people. When the law of God said thou
shalt not, we said we will. When the law of God said thou
shalt, we said we won't. We by nature were utter rebels
against God, and yet consider the greatness of his love, the
greatness of his mercy to send his son as a victorious king
to deliver us from our sins, to accomplish our salvation. Paul describes him as the captain
of our salvation, the champion. When you think of a champion,
obviously you think of David and Goliath. What a wonderful
picture that is. Our sin, Satan, the world, appear
as Goliath, undefeatable. Who shall defeat them? Who shall
conquer Goliath? And remember, Israel, no one
stepped out. And David looked around and says,
what are you guys standing here for? That guy's defying the Lord
God and he went out there and with a stone. With a stone. Wasn't Christ a picture of a
rock? He's David throwing the rock? He's the rock? He takes the very sword from
the enemy and cuts off his head? Jesus Christ our champion has
come and I want you to know he has ridden prosperously. He has succeeded in the salvation
of his people. He is no failure. If you want to see a failure,
you're looking at one. But my Savior is no failure. God said of him, he shall not
fail. He won't even be discouraged. A lot of times I succeed, but
in succeeding, I'm discouraged along the way. Christ won't even
be discouraged, much less fail. Christ our Redeemer did not fail,
He succeeded. Therefore He could say such things
as this, of all the Father hath given me, I should lose nothing. That's my Savior. My Savior will
lose nothing. Everyone he intended to save,
he saved. No, no, I didn't say he will
save. Yes, that is true. But everyone he intended to save,
when he came into this world, he actually saved them. Now listen, I didn't experience
this salvation until much later, but I was already saved. That's why Paul in Timothy says
he saved us and called us. Very important. Saved me first. Christ is a victorious Savior
and therefore how do we know his success? What's the evidence
of Christ's victory? It is this, the resurrection
from the dead. I know God saved me because Christ
is risen from the dead. All my sins are completely gone
forever. If there was one remaining, God
could not raise him from the dead. But God raised him from
the dead and has exalted him and given him a name that is
above every name, that at the name of Jesus, every knee should
bow. You got that? How many billions
and billions and billions of people have ever walked the face
of this earth and every single one of them will bow to Him? Why? He was prosperous. He was prosperous. He is the
King of kings and Lord of lords. Have you believed on Christ? Do you see him as he is revealed
in this text, prosperous? Why is it that you see him like
that and others do not? Why do others imagine a Christ
who is a failure, who wants to save people but can't? He's pleading. He's trying, he's manipulating,
but he can't do it. Why do people worship such a
weak effeminate Savior while we know Him to be prosperous,
successful, victorious? Well, this is because Christ
has not only in the past ridden prosperously, but in the very
present he has ridden prosperously to save us. So that we should
experience what he has by himself accomplished. So that Christ
has ridden prosperously. That's the first point. Listen,
he is successful. his blood atoned for all of the
sins of his people. His righteousness is perfect
for every elect sinner. He has saved them. But listen to the second point.
He who has ridden prosperously shall continually ride prosperously. What he has accomplished will
flourish. Now, the standard of God is clearly
seen by looking to Jesus Christ. You want to know how holy you've
got to be to be accepted with God, you have to look at Christ.
You have to look at Him. He's the standard. An immutable
standard, an unchangeable standard, you must be as holy as God to
enter into glory. What does the scripture say about
obtaining such holiness? What does God testify in his
word about men obtaining holiness? It's impossible. It's impossible. We are born sinners. We are born dead in sin. Paul says this, the scripture
hath concluded. I don't care what men think about
it. I don't care how they debate it, and I don't care what they
say. The scriptures conclude this. God himself concludes this,
all under sin. That's a conclusion. None righteous,
no not one. None, none righteous, no not
one. None that understandeth, none
that seeketh after God, they are all together. You put them
all together, take all their best deeds and put them together,
they are unprofitable. There's none that doeth good,
no, not one. So then there is no hope of us
ever achieving that standard, none. Pastor didn't you say that Christ
was successful in his work? Didn't he please God and ride
prosperously? Yes But for who did he ride prosperously? Not for everyone He was successful Christ was
successful in accomplishing the salvation of His elect Everyone
that Christ came to save he saved Christ did not come to save everyone.
You know how you know that? Because if he came to save everyone,
everyone would be saved. If that was his intent, he would
have saved everyone. That wasn't his intent. Again,
listen to his words. All that the Father giveth me
shall come to me. When he comes I won't cast him
out why all because all the father given me I should lose nothing
not one That the father has given me. I'm not going to lose one So Christ did not come to redeem
every child of Adam's race You look at Romans chapter 8
a very familiar passage Romans chapter 8 and verse 28 and Religious people like to quote
this only the first part we know that all things work together
for good, and then they just stop See that everybody it is
that God wants you to be healthy wealthy and prosperous No All
things work together for good to a very specific group them Them that love God Well, gee,
preacher, don't everybody love God? Nope. Isn't it easy to say,
I love God? They just roll off the tongue.
I love God. Really? You know who loves God? Them who are the called according
to his purpose. Election's not complicated. It's
just not. People don't like it, and they
want to make it complicated. Ralph Barnard said it this way.
Did God save you on accident or on purpose? Well, on purpose. Then you understand
election. Purpose. Everyone God purposed
to save, he sent Christ to save them. And Christ saved them. Who? All he purposed. I don't
know. Not for me to know. Everyone he purposed to save,
he saved. For whom he did foreknow. Not what, whom he did foreknow.
He also did predestinate to what? Be holy. Conformed to the image
of his son. I told you that's the standard,
isn't it? The standard is holiness. The
standard is Christ. And God purposed that those who
love him, those who are called according to his purpose, that
they should meet the standard. Holy. But he might be the firstborn
among many brethren, moreover, whom he did predestinate, them
he also called. Whom he called, he also justified. Whom he justified, he also glorified. In other words, it's done. Those are all past tens. You
got that? Everybody that God purposed to
call, it's as though they're already called. All he purposed
to justify, it's as though they're already justified. Those who
He purposed to glorify as though they already glorified. And when
Christ came into the world, He accomplished every one of those
things for us. And yes, every one of these things
that He tells us, being called, being justified and glorified,
everyone He saved will experience this. We will experience this. Why? Because God purposed it.
God purposed it. It was a decree of God to Christ. Ride prosperously in the salvation
of your people. And then ride prosperously that
that salvation may flourish, that it may grow. Take a seed
and you plant the seed in the ground. How do you know that
the seed germination was successful? Well, when it sprouts up. And if it's an apple tree, we
know it's successful only when it produces what? Apples. How do we know that Christ's
victory was successful? You're looking at it. Because
he saved me, and then he prosperously had written to call me, to justify
me. And he will write prosperously
to glorify me. Well, that's what God purposed
him to do. You may be sure then that everyone he saved he'll
call. We pray for this. We should pray for this as a
church. We should pray that God should call his people. I do
pray that he would ride prosperously in saving his people today, that
he would come and conquer sinners. That's my prayer. I always like praying something
I know I'm gonna get. You know, I get sick and I pray,
Lord, heal me. I don't know if I'm gonna get
that. I don't have a promise that God's
gonna heal my physical body when I'm sick. He may. I may need something. I may need
food. You know what? God may allow me to starve to
death. I don't have a promise that he's gonna give me physical
food. But I do have this promise. I will save my people. And I want you to understand,
and I've been saying this a lot recently because it brings me
comfort to know this, at any given point in the present, God's
church is absolutely full. There are yet people to come
in at their appointed time, but right now it's full. And when
that person's called, The next person is called, it's still
full. The next person is called, it's still full. It's never empty. God's church is always full. And so as we continue to look
at Christ as the prosperous king, I want you to see the image that
the scripture here gives us. He said to ride prosper. He's
talking about a battle victory. Kings in this day, they rode
on chariots pulled by horses. That's how kings rode. You can
imagine a king riding with his sword upon him, riding into battle. He's riding on a chariot being
pulled by horses. And I want you to see this is
how Christ comes to every sinner. And the chariot upon which Christ
rides is the Holy Spirit. When Christ comes to a sinner,
He comes by the power of the Holy Spirit. Now the day Christ
ascended into heaven, we know this, He fulfilled the prophecy
in that His Spirit would be poured out. He told them, His disciples
said, if I go not away, the Comforter will not come to you. But when
I go away, I am going to send the Spirit unto you. In Acts
chapter two, Peter is preaching, and he quotes Joel, the prophet. And this is what the prophet
said. He said, I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh, and
your sons and daughters shall prophesy, and your young men
shall see visions, your old men shall dream dreams. And on my
servants and my handmaids will I pour out in those days my spirit,
and they shall prophesy. And when he says he's gonna pour
out his spirit on all flesh, You understand that that means
Jew and Gentile. It doesn't mean everyone. It means, this was
surprising to a Jewish ear. When a Jew heard this, he said,
he's going to pour out my spirit on all flesh. You mean the Gentiles?
What I said, Jew and Gentile. He said, I'm going to pour out
my servant on my servants and my handmaids. Will I pour out
my spirit? In other words, every one of
his elect, he's going to give his spirit. And the spirit of
God does something to every one of his people when he comes to
save them. Listen to what Paul said in 2
Thessalonians 2, verse 13. He said, We are bound to give
thanks always to God for you, brethren, beloved of the Lord,
because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation. That's
what I told you. God purposed your salvation.
Christ accomplished your salvation. But listen, that's not the end. He says, Through. Here's the
means. God has a means by which he saves
his people. Through sanctification of the
Spirit. I want you to know that sanctification
is not a work of the elect. It's not a work of man. It's
a work of the Spirit. Sanctification means holiness.
That's only the work the Spirit of God can do. When the Spirit
of God comes and gives you life, He gives you a holy nature. He
sanctifies you. He makes you holy. And I want you to see that there
is no such thing as progressive holiness. Holiness is an all
or none principle. You are either holy or you're
not. You're either sanctified or you're not. And so when the
Spirit comes, when Christ rides prosperously to save a sinner,
He always does this, He gives them holiness. Through sanctification of the
Spirit, and notice this, what's the evidence of this holiness?
How can I know I am sanctified by the Spirit of God? Some people
say, well, you got to do this. You got to speak in tongues or
you got to jump up and down or you got to have this feeling
or you got to have this emotion. You got to have some evidence
that you're sanctified by the spirit. You know what the evidence
is? Belief of the truth. Faith is always the evidence
of our sanctification. You believe on the son of God?
Do you believe in his victory? Do you trust his success? Well,
that's evidence of our sanctification by the Spirit. So when the Spirit
comes, He gives us a new heart. This is what is commonly called
the new birth. Jesus told Nicodemus, He said,
except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Now you that are born again,
let me ask you this. Can you see the kingdom of God?
Is He talking about heaven? That's not what he's talking
about. He's talking about himself. He's the king of the kingdom. You
can't see that I'm the king, except you're born again. Then he says this, except a man
be born of water, even of the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom
of heaven. See the difference? You cannot
see Christ, except you're born again. And when you're born again
by the Spirit, it is only then you are able to enter into the
kingdom of God. He said, that which is born of
flesh is flesh, and that which is born of spirit is spirit. Marvel not, I said to you, you
must be born again. I like that. When he said, you
must be born again, you know what he's telling Nicodemus?
He's not telling Nicodemus he's got to do something. I remember hearing this preacher
one time, he's standing up there, false preacher, and he said,
you know what? You must be born again. Let me
tell you how. And he couldn't answer the question.
What can you do to be born again? How can you manipulate God to
give you a new birth? You can't. He told Nicodemus,
you must be born again because I have ridden prosperously to
save you. Therefore, the spirit of God
must ride prosperously to give you the new birth. Now, which
is born of flesh is flesh. It's going to live flesh, it's
going to die flesh. You that are born again, you
know this about yourself. The body is dead because of sin.
Ain't nothing you can do with this old man, make him better.
You can only kill him and cut him off. You can't coddle him.
He's not going to get better. I was just born of spirit. The
spirit of God is spirit. So when God comes, he sends his
Holy Spirit. Look at this in Galatians 4.
I want you to look at this. This is astounding. The scriptures
are amazing if you just listen to them. Go to Galatians chapter
4. Look at verse 6. Notice this. Because you are sons, God has sent forth his spirit
into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. Notice this, it's not
backwards. He said, he didn't say this,
he didn't say, God sent forth his spirit into your hearts,
crying, Abba, Father, so as you should become sons. No, because
you are already sons. You had the spirit of God, didn't
you? You understand that? You were already a son. But you
didn't know it, not till he came and gave you life. Not till the spirit came and
rode prosperously to let you know this, you were always my
sons. I chose you to be my sons. And
my son has ridden prosperously so that soon and very soon the
Spirit of God should make you cry, Abba, Father. And so then we know that only
the sons of God shall receive the Spirit of God. Jesus said,
no man can come unto me except the Father which has sent me,
draw him. Do you see how blessed you are
who have come? You who have come. Do you not
see how blessed you are that Christ has come to you by the
Spirit and given you ability to come? The Father gave us to Christ
and He should lose none. And the Spirit should come to
every one of them so as to give them both life and faith. These two come together and never
apart. The Spirit and faith come together. Therefore, the scripture says
that my thy people shall be willing. When? When were you willing? In the day of thy power. In an astounding how men view
faith is something nothing more than a mere decision. When God
views it as the power of God. You that believe, it is no small
thing you believe. It is because Christ has sent
his spirit and given you life. And as a result, he gives you
faith. Faith. Now then, I want you to
see as we go through this, as the king rides on the spirit.
Notice, go back to your text. Look at this. He said in verse four again,
and thy majesty ride prosperously. He has, he saved his people. He's going to ride prosperously
upon the chariot of the Spirit of God so as to give them life
and faith. But notice this, because of truth
and meekness and righteousness. Now these are the three horses
upon which the Spirit of God comes. The chariot is the spirit, but
he rides with these three horses. And the first, the lead horse
is this, the horse of truth. When the spirit of God comes,
the first thing he does is preach the gospel to you. How do you
know if the spirit of God's come to you? My earthly brother, he came to me one day and he
said, you know, I've had an experience. He said, I was in the parking
lot, and I saw this light, and I felt this presence, and I was
so miserable, and I felt this, and I felt that. You know, my
brother was an alcoholic, drug addict. I mean, I really wanted
this to be true. I wanted him to be saved, so
much that I neglected what the word of God says about those
things. When the Spirit of God comes,
it's not come with experiences. He comes first with the gospel. This always leads the way. The
gospel, the horse of truth. The work of the Spirit is a supernatural
work. He quickens the dead sinner.
He creates a new nature and gives us faith. This is something no
man can do for himself. It must be done by the power
of the Spirit. But the means by which the Spirit
does this is the preaching of the gospel. Let me ask you this.
How important is preaching? How important is preaching in
the eyes of God? Now listen, I want you to know
there's no shortage of preachers. I want you to know that. I looked
it up. There are over 500,000 professional
preachers in this country, in just this country. I'm not talking
about Sunday school teachers and so forth. You add all those
together, probably double it. A preacher is not a rare thing.
But a preacher preaching the truth is a rare thing. Because
this is the only thing the Spirit uses to save, is the preaching
of the gospel. No man knows God but by the Spirit,
and the Spirit will reveal him only by this one chosen means,
preaching. Go to 1 Corinthians. I want you to see how important...
The preacher's nothing. I want you to understand that.
That's my point about that. Preacher's nothing. I am nothing. The truth of the gospel is everything. Go to 1 Corinthians chapter 1
and look at verse 17. He said, for Christ sent me not
to baptize. Baptism's important. Christ ordained
that baptism should be an institution of the church, an ordinance. He said, that's not really what
I'm here for. I will do it because it is an ordinance and it's important.
Not as important as this. but to preach the gospel. This is our purpose, to preach
the gospel. There's only one gospel. There's
not many. How are we to preach? Not with
wisdom of words. Lest the cross of Christ be of
none effect We preach the gospel of the cross
of Christ for the preaching of the cross Is to them that perish
food see preaching is not foolish. We wouldn't have over a million
preachers if preaching was foolish To most men preaching is good
But what is foolishness? The preaching of the cross, preaching
Christ over and over and over. Don't you got something else
to preach? Can't you preach a little bit about me? I'm going through
some tough stuff here. I need you to connect with me.
Nope, that's not what I'm here to do. I'm here to set Christ before
you. And whatever trouble you've got, He's the only remedy you
can get. I'm not going to preach anything
else but the cross of Christ. So to them, the cross of Christ
is foolishness. But unto us, to those the Spirit
of God has ridden prosperously, the preaching of the cross is
the power of God unto salvation. We know that. That's our experience.
It's true. In verse 21 of that chapter it
says, For after that, in the wisdom of God, the world by wisdom
knew not God. You're not going to know God
by Wisdom of men your philosophy There's a thing called apologetics.
It's very big today. It's a Reasoning the gospel to
people just just try to appeal to their intellect The world by wisdom knew not
God It pleased God by the foolishness
of preaching to save them that believe. You see, the purpose
of preaching is that this horse of truth should ride first. And what do we preach? We're
always preaching Christ and Him crucified. I don't have anything
else. I don't want anything else. And the sinner don't need anything
else. This is all we need. We need Christ. I need to hear
it again. I forgot. How do you know you
forget? You feel guilty? You believers,
you feel guilt, shame, despair? You feel cold, indifferent? What
do you need? I need Him. Have you sinned? What do you
need? I need Him. I have to know. If I have Him, and if I have
Him, I'm at peace, regardless of what happens. I gotta hear
it over and over again. The second horse that comes by
is this one of mateness. This always accompanies the gospel
of the Spirit. Jesus said, no man can come unto
me except the Father which hath sent me. Draw him. When God the
Holy Spirit draws a man, how does He draw him? Is it with law? Is that how you
were drawn? Oh man, when I heard the law,
ooh, I felt so good. No, God doesn't draw men by law,
by works. He draws men by love, by love. Listen to what he said in Hosea
11, verse 4. He said, I drew them with cords
of a man, with bands of love. I was to them as they that take
off the yoke. When the Spirit of God comes
to a sinner, you know what he does? He takes off the yoke. Takes the
burden off. Religion, they say, well, you
know, you're too hard. You people are so hard. Really? When they get you, they put a
yoke on you. Oh, you stop doing this now.
You've come to Christ. Stop. Go do this. Start doing that. What are they
going to do? Put a burden on you. When God
says, I come to you, I will take it off. We heard it this week, this last
weekend. It is finished. What's left to do? If it's finished, what's left
to do? Christ removed my sin. What's
left to do? Christ gave me righteousness. What's left to do? And I sent meat to them. How meek is God to do this? How
gracious is He? Is it not love? And the last
horse is this, is the horse of righteousness.
When God comes, we find out this, that Christ is the end of the
law for righteousness. When the Spirit of God comes
to a man, He gives us the very righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5.21 says, For He
hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin, that we might
be made the righteousness of God in Him. So when He comes, ride prosperous.
You know what He does? He gives you His righteousness. And I know this, everyone who
the Spirit saves, calls, we desire only to be found in that righteousness. Believer, what work would you
like to add to his righteousness? Is there any of your works that
you want to sew into this garment? Anything. For someone who the Spirit has
ridden prosperously, we understand this, that all my acceptance
is because Christ has ridden prosperously for my salvation. All my present hope and faith
rests on Him alone. And all my hope for future glory
is this, that he will continually ride prosperously to keep me. We sing that hymn, Other refuge
have I none, hangs my helpless soul on thee. Leave, ah, leave
me not alone, still support and comfort me. Ride prosperously." You know what God said? God said,
in thy majesty, ride prosperously. In truth, meekness, and righteousness,
thy right hand shall teach thee terrible things. That's speaking
of his crucifixion, that's speaking of his redemption. How he's going
to ride prosperously is through that redemptive work, that terrible
work, work he was forsaken for our sins. I do pray that you
would see Christ as he is, a victorious Savior, and he will save his
people from their sins. If I didn't believe that, I don't
think I would preach. If there was just some chance of it not
happening, what good is it to me to stand up here and tell
you this stuff? I know this. He will save his people. God
purposed it. I pray this will give you some
comfort. I know that you're troubled. I'm thankful it didn't say something
like, you should ride prosperously. There'd be no hope for us, would
it? Oh, most mighty, ride prosperously. I know he has, and he is. Let's
stay a minute.
