Psalm 114. And we'll be looking
at verses 1 through 8 this morning. And the title of the message
is, Full Deliverance. Full Deliverance. The Scripture says, When Israel
went out of Egypt, the house of Jacob, from a people of a
strange language, Judah was His sanctuary, and Israel His dominion. Now, the author of this psalm
begins the psalm in a very unusual way. He doesn't have a preface.
Normally, if you were to go through the psalms, I did go through
and look at the first few verses of most of the psalms. And in
the majority of them, He begins with a preface of praise to God,
or a request to God. But simply, in this Psalm, he
begins with a statement, a fact. When Israel went out of Egypt. The psalmist here begins this
psalm with a burst of truth, as though he could not contain
himself, as though he could not withhold this information, this
truth any longer within himself. He bursts out into this psalm
in the middle, it seems, rather than having a preface in the
beginning. He can't seem to wait. He begins
with this glorious truth that Israel was delivered from A tyrant. The tyrant of Egypt. Pharaoh
and his slave masters. And we shall see
that the psalmist, he begins here with this great and glorious
truth, but he bounds over this truth. He continues to swell
with this truth until the last verse. And so that's what we'll
do this morning, is just dive in here, and that's the first
point, is the point of the psalmist, that God delivered Israel. God delivered Israel. He said, when Israel went out
of Egypt. Now the thought of Egypt here
has reference to the tyrant Pharaoh and his taskmasters. That he
enslaved the children of Israel for 400 years. years. Now Israel, while in Egypt had
grown and prospered, they'd become a prosperous nation. They'd come
in as one family, the house of Jacob. And now then the house
of Jacob had grown into such a large number that Pharaoh himself
was afraid of the nation of Israel, that they would take over that
land. And so he enslaves them. But
this was told of God. This was not a surprise to our
God. He told Abraham in Genesis 15,
he said, your seed, your children will be afflicted for 400 years. That word afflicted in that Genesis
15, it means to depress. And many of us have been depressed. I have felt depression. But I'll
tell you what, I've not been someone's slave as of yet in
the physical body. like these people were. They
were sorely afflicted. They were sorely afflicted. This
word means to oppress or defile. They were as a defiled people. They were slaves and looked at
as worse than nothing. This was true of physical Israel. And so the psalmist tells us
that they were in Egypt, but they were delivered. But we know
this has something more than just historical value to it,
because this is speaking to spiritual Israel. This is speaking to God's
Israel. That which was true of physical
Israel is true in a spiritual sense to the elect of God, to
the chosen of God the Father. All God chose, Israel, His elect
people, were born captives in sin. under the dominion of Satan,
oppressed by the father of lies and the murderer from the beginning. The first victim of Satan was
our parents. He tempted our mother, deceived
her. And Adam, when he was given the
fruit, he was not deceived. But when he ate, when he disobeyed
God, this plunged the entire human race into death and sin. This was universal. For in Adam
all died. All died. The fall affects every child
of Adam. Every one of us, if this fall
affects, we were all born into this condition. If a moral man
says, I just wonder how that person could be so wicked. Have
you ever heard that? You know how I heard that? I
heard myself say that. I've said that many times. Have
you? You know why we say that? Because we do not consider our
own natural condition. If we would consider our own
natural condition, if we would consider our own nature, then
we would not be able to say such things. We would not be able
to look down on the worst of men. Because we were all born
in this condition. And you know this, that your
natural man is still wicked and sinful and evil as he was when
you were born. That nature is still just as
vile as it was when you were born. We should consider ourselves,
the Apostle Paul did, In Romans 7, verse 14, he says, we know
that the law is spiritual, but I am. And it's very important
that we should notice those present tense words of the Apostle Paul,
I am. O wretched man that I am. He said, I am carnal. And he is talking about his old
nature. His old spiritual condition that
still abides in this flesh. In my flesh dwelleth no good
thing. He said, I am carnal, sold. This has reference to slavery. Sold under sin. Sold under sin. This is the real
condition of our nature. Bondage. Condemnation. Death. We are captives in this old man,
and this old man can never free himself. He can never free himself. Yet when Israel went out of Egypt,
how did they go out? How is it that natural Israel
was delivered? They were delivered by the hand
of God. You remember that God sent those
ten plagues and the last of those plagues, the last of those plagues
is the one that really counted. The last of those plagues was
the one that really delivered them from their captors. And
that was the plague of Passover. Passover. It was Passover, the Passover
lamb that fully set them free. Israel was delivered by the blood
of the lamb. The Lord said, take the blood
and put it on the doorposts and on the lentil. What a picture
that is. This was not blood that was just sprinkled here and there. This was a poured out on the
door, dripping with blood. And God says, when I see the
blood, not when I see that you've done a good thing, not when I've
seen you've done good works, not when I've even seen your
faith. When I see the blood, I will pass over you. And even so it is, for us who have
been delivered, by the hand of God. You and I know this. It
was by blood we were delivered. It was by the death of the Lamb
of God. It was by the death of the Son
of God that we were delivered from our sins. It is by the blood
of Jesus Christ alone. Do you imagine that the firstborn
in every house was a little nervous? Do you imagine that he was somewhat
timid in that house? Dad, are you sure you put the
blood on the door? Are you positive that you got
the right lamb now? I can't see the door! It's fine, son. The blood's on
the door. Isn't that the assurance the
Father gives us every time we fear? The blood's on the door. The blood's on the door. The
blood's on the door. I will pass over you. What a wonderful picture. When
Israel? This is not even a question,
is it? When? It's not a matter of if, it was
just a matter of when. When Israel was delivered. And
so is it for God's saints. In Luke chapter 7, the Lord talks
about the strong man arm. Satan is a strong man armed. What is he armed with? He's armed
with your sin. That's what he's armed with.
One thing about Satan that he could never do with the Lord
Jesus Christ that he can do with us is that he can find something
to grab a hold of. Christ, there was no sin. There
was nothing for him to grab a hold of. He tried. But with us, Satan
hath desire to sift thee as wheat." You know how easy that is? Sift. You jangle it and the chaff
falls off and leaves the seed. It's easy. It's not hard. The only hope is that I've prayed
for thee. That's what Christ said to Peter. But I have prayed
for thee. that thy faith fail not." You
know why your faith doesn't fail? It's because of Christ. That's
why. Otherwise, He would tear you
apart. He'd tear me apart. But He can't tear us apart. Because
we have been delivered by the blood. That's why. He cannot. Although there's many things
to grab ahold of, He's not allowed. He cannot. He cannot rip this from us. When
Jesus comes, who is infinitely mightier than Satan, He who is
a strong man armed, He casts him out and spoils his kingdom.
And when the Spirit of God comes to the sinner, He casts him out.
And what does He do? Does He fix up the old nature?
Does He put bandages on the old man and send you along your way? No. The Spirit of God comes and
by the blood of Christ creates in us a new nature, a hunger,
a desire for righteousness, a desire to believe on Christ alone as
all our hope, to rest our souls on Him. This is the product of
a new nature. Is that nature in you? Is this
what you desire? To be found in Christ and Christ
alone? That is a product of God's power
and mercy toward the sinner in full deliverance from sin. He creates a brand new nature. A new nature that's free from
sin. The old man is never going to
be free from this nature, from itself. But praise God that He,
the old man, is crucified with Christ. I was crucified with
Christ. Why? The law demanded death.
The law demanded your death. Scott, the law demanded your
death. It demanded it. And Christ provided it. Because
when He died, we died with Him. Therefore, the law, the law of
sin and death, we have been made free, completely, absolutely
free from the law. Christ is the end of the law
for righteousness. To who? To everyone that believeth.
Christ is the end of the law. We don't start obeying the law
when we come to Christ. The law is done. It's accomplished. It's finished. It's in Christ. And we have a new nature that's
free from sin's guilt. Free from sin's power. One thing
about this old man, it'll never corrupt the new man. Praise God
for that. Praise God for that. It'll never
corrupt the new man. This is what the blood of Christ
provides for all the elect, complete redemption from sins. A new nature
that is in Christ. And we abide in him. And we are
covered by his blood. And we who are in Christ by faith
have been freed from the bondage of sin, the yoke of the law,
and free from the justice of God. Second of all, Israel, when they
were delivered, they were delivered from a people of a strange language. A strange language. Israel speaks
a different language. They did not want to speak Egyptian. And Egyptian language was a very
foreign language to them. The religion of this world, who
are ministers of Satan, they speak a different language than
those who have been delivered by God. The religion of this
world speak the language of free will. They speak the language
of the mass. They speak the language of water
of salvation. They speak the language of the
holiness of the old nature. But to us who are of Israel,
this is a strange language, is it not? It sounds gibberish to me. To us who are in Christ,
that language is nonsense. Nonsense. It's a barbaric language that
we do not understand. You ever wonder why people are
so confused about religion? It's because of the language.
The language. They say that God is sovereign
and powerful, yet he cannot overrule your will. That's a that's gibberish. That's gibberish. They say that
God loves all men, but he can't save them. That's barbaric. They say that Jesus' blood was
shed for all men, and yet God still punishes those even though
the blood was shed for them. That is horrific. They say that the righteousness
of Christ is good enough, but they have to add some more. That is ridiculous. They say that you must be accepted
by your holiness. They say that God saves, but
He can lose you. That you can be lost again. This language is foreign to everyone
that has been delivered. Everyone who has been delivered,
that language of the religious world is nothing but talk and
gibberish and it doesn't make any sense to us. And we should
not listen to it at all. Don't listen to it. It will only
confuse you. I had someone who had called
me and they were wanting to know something about a definition
that they had looked up online. Friends, stay away from that.
If you would like a definition, please come to me. I will help
you. But the world will only try to confuse you. I'm not trying to say that you're
unintelligent and that you can't make a proper choice in definitions
or anything like that. I'm just saying that I'm warning
you that it's possible for us to be led astray. This is why
God gives pastors. This is why God gives these rulers
of the church for this purpose, to preach the gospel to you. And so stay away from that foreign
language. Don't try to dig in a load of
crap to find a small piece of coin. You know, you lost a dime
in some cow manure. You're not really going to reach
down in there and mix around in it just to find your dime.
That's what most people do. They mix around in a bunch of
mess just to find a small piece of truth. Don't do that. Don't
do that. God's Word is plain and simple. We speak the language of grace.
We who have been delivered, we speak the language of grace.
That's the language we know. We speak the language of sovereign
election that God gave His people to Christ in eternity. We preach
that Jesus came into this world and was made flesh for His elect.
He obeyed the law of God for His elect. He died for His elect. He saved His elect. He was risen
from the dead to justify His elect. And He is now ruling over all
things, right now at this moment, working all things after the
counsel of His own will for the single purpose of bringing His
elect to Himself. That's it. That's the message
of grace. That's the message of deliverance.
That we are free in Christ. That we are set at liberty. And all who believe speak this
language. Scripture tells us that we all
have one Savior, one Father, one Lord, one Spirit. The same
Spirit that saved me, that abides in me, abides in you. The same
Deliverer of all of God's church is our Deliverer. We don't have
different Deliverers. We have one. And therefore, we
are unified in our language. Went to a conference. Wonderful
time. Beautiful people. And you know
what? We all spoke the same language.
It wasn't just English. It was a language of grace. And
everyone that I met that preached the gospel, and everyone that
I met in the church that believed on Christ, when I spoke to them,
they understood. When I talked about deliverance,
they understood. We identified with one another. We communed with one another. And we were able to understand
one another. We were not confused by each other's language. Isn't
that amazing? And they were all the way in
another state. Imagine if you met somebody in another country.
If there was some way for you to communicate between you, you
would be unified with them and speak the same spiritual language
of grace. So when you meet someone who
speaks a different language, you know something's wrong. You're not speaking the same
language I am. I speak the language of grace. Next, God leads Israel. Not only did He deliver them,
not only did He set them free from the strange language, but
He also leads them. Look at that in verse 2. Judah
was His sanctuary, and Israel His dominion. Judah was the chosen
tribe to lead Israel from Egypt. They were the ones that spearheaded
this delivering operation. And this was for a purpose. Because
Jesus was to come from the tribe of Judah. As Judah led the procession out
of Israel, as Judah led the procession through the Red Sea, as Judah
led the procession in the wilderness, as Judah led the procession through
Jordan, even so does Jesus Christ lead us from deliverance to Deliverance. He leads us from the Red Sea
of our salvation to Jordan, which is a picture of heaven. And all the way in between, Judah,
our Savior, leads us. Leads us. Jesus is the Lion of
the tribe of Judah. And notice that Judah is the
sanctuary of God. Where is it that we can know
God? It is only in Jesus Christ the Lord. No man knoweth the
Father save the Son, neither knoweth any man the Son save
the Father, unto whomsoever the Son will reveal. Believer, are you troubled We know we've been delivered
by the blood. But the Lord gives us a picture after Israel was
delivered. You remember that on one hand
was the mountains, on the other hand was the wilderness. On the
backside was the rushing tyrant coming after them. And before
them was the sea. They were trapped. Do you feel
trapped? Do you feel as though there's
no hope? Oh, often times I feel that way. What are we to do? What did he
tell Moses? Why are you asking me? Go forward. Go forward into the sea. And
behold, look, Judah has already went before us into the sea of
God's wrath. He's went before us. And what
did the sea do? The sea parted before them. Go forward unto God by the blood
of Christ and the seed parts, and you are accepted. Do you
see the significance of going forth on dry ground? Do you see
the significance of that? Because not one drop of God's
wrath will ever fall on us. Not one drop of God's wrath will
ever touch the souls of our people. Because Christ has already went
before us and procured our righteousness. Friends, God is not angry with
you who are in Christ. He never has been. Is that not
something? Our Father chastens us. Our Father
guides us. But I know this, that God has
always loved us. And if you have trouble, look
to Christ. See that He has gone before you.
See that He has already prepared a way. He said, I go unto my
Father. I prepare a place for you. There are many dwelling
places in heaven. If it were not so, I would have
told you. I go to prepare a place for you. He told us. Look, behold,
He is walking forward in the sea. Follow after. Follow after
by faith. And the wrath of God shall not
touch you. He said, In verse 3, the sea
saw it and fled. He saw Christ coming through
and he fled. The justice of God parted because
Christ had already offered His blood. Sad justice was satisfied. No fear. Go forward. See by faith. Jesus Christ who
goes before us. Believer, are you troubled by
the mountains of God's law? Are you grieved by the wilderness
of your unrighteousness? Does the enemy press in sore
from behind you and burden you? And go forward by faith in Christ. And as we journey through this
life, as Judah went through the wilderness for 40 years, we know
this, that Judah led the way, and God, by Jesus Christ, will
and does lead every one of His people through this wilderness. He will. Well, He's faithful. I know that you're not faithful,
because I'm I want to be, I desire to be, but I know this, my salvation
does not rest in my faithfulness. In His faithfulness, my salvation
rests. And therefore, my salvation is
sure because He was faithful. I love that Scripture. It says
that, but the righteousness of God is manifest by the Law and
Prophets, even the righteousness of God which is by the faith
of Jesus Christ. Very important. By the faith
of Jesus Christ. You're not saved because of your
faith, you're saved because of His. And this righteousness is given
to everyone who has faith. Do you have faith in Christ?
Then you have His righteousness. We don't fear the justice of
God because we have His righteousness. And as the water parted for the
Israelites, even so the justice of God parts for us. Therefore,
we follow Christ by faith. Do you realize this, that you'll
never die? Because of this, because you
have full deliverance, you will never die. Jesus said, told that
woman, He said, He that drinketh of this water shall thirst again.
But he that drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never
thirst again. And in John 11, he said, let me see, John chapter
11 and verse 25. I'll look there real quick. I
want to read it to you. Jesus told Martha, He said, I
am the resurrection and the life. He that believeth in me, though
he were dead, yet shall he live. and whosoever liveth and believeth
in me," here it is, "...shall never die." Do you believe that? Believest thou this, he said?
Do you believe that? The moment you breathe out your
last breath, not even a split second after
that, you will breathe in eternal glory. You won't die. The body will,
but you won't. You will breathe in. As soon
as you breathe out, you will breathe in the air of glory.
That's an amazing thing. And I'll tell you what, the closer
we come to death, the more we hold on to that. But that's just
so you'll never die. And last thing, the sovereign
God causes the mountains to leap. Look at that, he says in verse
4, the mountains skip like rams and like little hills like lambs. Is there mountains in front of
you? Do you have obstacles in your way? When you look at a
mountain, what do you think of? I think that man I think of a
strong place. A mountain seems unmovable to
us, doesn't it? Nobody would ever say, well,
I'm just going to move Mount Everest today. I think that I'll
just put it over here. No. It's something that's solid.
It's something that seems unmovable. To us, it is unmovable. But to
God, it is like a little lamb scurrying in the field. How easy is it to move a lamb?
I don't know. Just walk toward him. He'll move. That's what happened to the water,
and that's what will happen to the mountains. To the mountains
of our sin, they have been removed. What seems unmovable in front
of you this morning, your sin, that's constantly ever before
your eyes. David said, My sin is ever before me. I know. It
seems like a mountain. But friends, that mountain moves.
It scurries away. when we see Christ. When we behold
Him on the cross, when we behold His empty tomb, the mountains
of our sins are removed. Guilt of conscience flees at
the very presence of Christ. What a picture! What a picture! Our sovereign God moves mountains
like sheep. And those troubles that are in
our path, those sins, are removed by Jesus Christ. And lastly, the presence of God.
Look at this. He said, What aileth thee, O
sea, that thou fleddest, thou Jordan, that thou wast driven
back, you mountains that ye skip like rams, that ye little hills
like lambs? Tremble, thou earth, at the presence
of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob. If we would just hold fast that
God is always with us, what would ever cause us to be
worried or fear? We fear because we take our eyes
off of this truth that God is with us. God is with us. He said, I will
never leave thee nor forsake thee. Do you believe that? If we believe that, we should
never fear. God give me grace to believe that. And all my troubles
will run away. If I believe that, I will have
no troubles. They'll run away. Why? Because His presence is
near. And the earth trembles. God's presence was always moving
all things for our salvation. Do you believe that? Can you
not see that in your life, how God moved all things to bring
you under the sound of the gospel, to hear His Word and believe
His grace? Of course. That's the only way
it could have happened. I never would have come. I never
would have believed. But God orchestrated all eternity
to bring me under the sound of the gospel. And God still orchestrates
all things to bring you home to Himself. I just told Nancy this, I told
the people Wednesday. We always say that things couldn't
get worse. You know, things could be worse.
We're always glass half-empty kind of people. Well, they guess it could be
worse! And then we think we're real positive. No, things couldn't
get better. because all things work together
for your good. God orchestrated whatever it
is that we are going through. God orchestrated it and it can't
be better. If we could change it, it would
be worse. Whatever it is, it's the best. It's the best. God's presence that abides with
us should cause us to stand in awe of God. Do you stand in awe
of God? Or do you think, eh, God? Or do you stand in awe of God? Awe of God is not cast out by
faith. But rather, awe is magnified
by faith. The more we see The more we know
the presence of God in us, the more we stand in awe of Him. The more we understand what Christ
has done for us, the more we stand in awe of Him. And lastly, the verse, it says,
Which turned the rock into standing water, the flint into a fountain
of water. As we stand in awe of God, let
us see that God took the most unlikely source, what the world
rejected, and gave us a fountain of living
water, Jesus Christ the Rock. To the world, that means nothing.
Eh, He's a rock. Eh, okay. No, to us, He is the
rock, and out of this rock flows the fountain of living water,
the Spirit of God. Do you ever think that this rock
would be deplenished of grace? No. Drink all the grace you want,
and there's more grace. Drink all the forgiveness you
want, and there's more forgiveness. Drink all the love of God you
want, and there's more love to be had. This is the source of our refreshing. Jesus Christ, our Rock. I pray
that God will bless this to your hearts.
