All right, let's turn back to
John chapter 6. John chapter 6. After our Lord
performed that wonderful miracle, and I was, when we went home
from lunch today, I was reading over all this again and I thought,
I would actually like to re-preach what we did last, two Sundays
ago. He fed 5,000 with five barley
loaves and two small fishes. And after he performed that wonderful
miracle, verse 14 says, then those men, when they had seen
the miracle that Jesus did, said, this is of a truth, that prophet
that should come into the world. When Jesus therefore perceived
that they would come and take him by force to make him a king,
he departed again into a mountain himself alone. Until the birth
of the Lord Jesus Christ, the whole earth waited for the coming
of the Messiah. just like we're waiting for His
return. Just like this. They talked about
Him, just like this. They quoted scriptures concerning
Him, just like this. They looked to Him. They hoped
in Him, just like we're doing right now. We're waiting on him,
aren't we? He said in the old Testament,
how he would come where he would be. Just like he said in the
new Testament, how he will return where he will be. He's going to descend from the
clouds and bring the whole host of glory with him. And we're
waiting on that. We're looking to that. Well, for generation to generation
to generation, people waited for the promised one. Waiting,
looking for the promised one. Verse 14 says, Then those men,
when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is
of a truth, that prophet, that should come into the world. That's
got to be Him. This is Him. You know, we're
going to get to say that we are going to get to say that the
Trump shall resound. The clouds roll back. There he
is. There he is. The one that said
he would come back. There he is. He said he'd come
back. You know, that's my hope is that
he said he'd come back. Don't leave me here. Come back. We'll look at chapter 14, John
chapter 14, verse one. John 14, verse one says, let
not your heart be troubled. You believe in God, believe also
in me. In my Father's house are many
mansions. If it were not so, I would have
told you. I go to prepare a place for you, and if I go and prepare
a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself,
that where I am, there you may be also." Isn't that glorious? Isn't that wonderful? I promise
I will come back. That's what he said. That's what
he said. I promise I'll come back. Now turn with me to Revelation
22. Let's look at his very last words recorded for us. The last
thing he said to us. These be the last words of our
Lord Jesus Christ, written to us in his book. Revelation 22
verse 20 says, He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I
come quickly. And then John, under the inspiration
of God, writes, Amen. Even so, come Lord Jesus. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ
be with you all. Amen. Now back over to our text
in John chapter six. That's what he has said. That's what he declared. Verse
14 says, then those men, when they had seen the miracle that
Jesus did said, this is of a truth, that prophet that should come
into the world. The one that the scriptures talked
about, this is him. They were holding to scriptures
just like we are. Promises just like we are. And the one that they were holding
on to is Deuteronomy 18. Okay. We're going to turn to
a few and I'll quote a few, but turn to Deuteronomy 18. Deuteronomy 18 verse 15 says,
the Lord, thy God will raise up unto thee a prophet from the
midst of the, of that brethren, like unto me unto him, shall
you hearken that's Jesus Christ. Verse 18 says, I will raise them
up a prophet from among their brethren like unto thee and will
put my words in his mouth. And he shall speak unto them
all that I shall command him. God saying my words are going
to be in his mouth. Verse 21 says, and if thou say
in thine heart, how shall we know the word which the Lord
hath not spoken? How are we going to know that
this is him? Verse 22, when a prophet speaketh
in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not nor come to
pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken. But the prophet hath spoken it
presumptuously, thou shalt not be afraid of him. He said, if
it doesn't come to pass, then he's not, he's not my prophet. The Lord thy God will raise up
unto thee a prophet. And the words that come out of
his mouth are going to be the actual words of God. How will we know? Everything
he says will come to pass. Every single thing. You know
how comforting that is? That is so comforting. Not one
word shall fail. Not one word. And what did he
say? I'm coming back. I am coming
back. They asked John, are you that
prophet? He said, no, I'm not him, but
he is coming. He is coming. Now here is the problem for mankind.
When he comes back, all those whom he does not know and all
those who do not know him, he will have nothing to do with
them. Nothing to do with them. They will not enter into his
rest. He will say, depart from me,
you that work iniquity, I never knew you. And then the wrath
of God is going to abide on those people. How terrible. That's
the painful truth. Look at our text in John 6 verse
14 says, Then those men, when they had
seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth, that
prophet that should come into the world. But verse 15 says,
When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take
him by force to make him a king, he departed again into a mountain
himself alone. He will not have it. He will not have it. You cannot
make him a king. Make Jesus your Lord. You can't. All who think they can have no
idea who he is. And they are in great danger.
Great danger. Turn with me over to Acts chapter
2. We said this this morning, if
you can make Jesus Lord, then you are God. Because only God can do that.
Acts chapter 2 verse 36 says, Therefore, let all the house
of Israel know assuredly that God hath made that same Jesus
whom you have crucified, both Lord and Christ. Now, when they heard this, they
were pricked in their heart and said unto Peter and to the rest
of the apostles, men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter
said unto them, repent and be baptized every one of you in
the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and you
shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is
unto you and to your children and to all that are afar off,
even as many as the Lord our God shall call. Those foolish
men saw the miracles he did and they said, I tell you what, Why
don't we make him a king? You can't make him a king. He already is the king. Almost 50 years ago, almost 50 years ago, Doris Mahan
was teaching a kid's Bible class, a kid's Sunday school class,
and she was right here in this text. And she asked the kids,
why would the Lord not let them make him king? And a little six
year old boy there named Todd Nyberg said, because he already
is king. That's right. That's exactly
right. He already is king. He was born king. Turn over to Matthew chapter
two. Matthew chapter two verse one
says now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the
days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the
east to Jerusalem." Wise men. Not fools. Wise men. What made them wise? Verse 2
says, they came to Jerusalem saying, where is he that is born
king? King of the Jews. For we have
seen his star in the east, and we are come to worship him."
That is wise. Man, that's wise. Notice in verse
1, Herod the little K king. And in verse 2, he that is born,
big K king. He is the king of kings. You're going to make him king?
You have no idea who this is, do you? No idea. This is life
eternal that they might know they. Our Lord was made to be a few
things in due time for his people. King is not one of them. It's
not one of them. He is. He always has been. He always will be the king. He said, you call me master and
Lord and you say, well, for so I am. Paul wrote to Timothy and
first Timothy one 17. Now unto the King eternal, eternal,
immortal, invisible. The only wise God be honor and
glory forever and ever. Amen. As he hung on the cross. A superscription was written
over him in Greek, Latin, and Hebrew that said, This is the
King of the Jews. Amen. Amen. Now, I want to just go through
a few scriptures and see what the one who cannot be made king
was made for us. Made to be. I want you to turn
with me to John 1. John 1 verse 1 says, In the beginning
was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Verse 14 says, And the Word was
made flesh, and dwelt among us, and
we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the
Father, full of grace and truth. Our King was made flesh. Aren't you glad? Look at verse 31 here in John
chapter 1. It says, And I knew him not,
but that he should be made manifest to Israel. Therefore am I come
baptizing with water. He was made manifest. Aren't
you glad? That's our salvation. He said, A body hast thou prepared
me. He was made that. But He was
already the King. Turn with me to Romans 1. Romans 1 verse 3 says, concerning
His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of
David, according to the flesh. He was made to be a man, a man. This man, Jesus, who nobody respects. Nobody. They like him just fine. They don't have a problem with
him. But they don't honor him as the king. Reverence him, fear
him. In their eyes, he's just a man
like you and me. That's it. Just a man. Is he
just a man like you and me? No. What makes the difference?
He's the king. That's the difference. Turn with
me to 2 Corinthians chapter 5. 2 Corinthians 5 verse 21 says,
For he hath made him to be sin for us who knew no sin, that
we might be made the righteousness of God in him. He was made sin. made sin. He was made sin. There came a point when he was
made sin. Can you imagine? Did he fall
from his kingdom? Was he a sinner? Absolutely not. Thy throne, O God, is forever
and ever a scepter of righteousness. Call His name Jesus, for He shall
save His people, His subjects, from their sin. He hath made
Him to be sin for us who knew no sin, that we might be made
the righteousness of God in Him. Turn to Galatians 4. Galatians 4 verse 4 says, But when the fullness of time
was come, God sent forth His Son, made of a woman, made under
the law. He was made under the law. Did the law condemn Him? No. Because the one who was made
under the law, made the law. He's the king. It was our king, Jesus Christ,
who met with Moses. And he said, I'm not come to
destroy the law, but to fulfill it. I made it. I'll fulfill it. I know every jot and every tittle
because I wrote every jot and every tittle. Everyone. What a king we have. Philippians
2 says he made himself of no reputation. That is amazing. If I have some
reputation, you think I want to get rid of it? No. Hebrews
2 said he was made a little lower than the angels, made like unto
his brethren. Why? If he's the king, why? Turn to Hebrews 5. And this is amazing. Hebrews 5 verse
8 says, Though he were a son, yet learned he obedience by the
things which he suffered, and being made perfect, he became
the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him.
He humbled himself and suffered even unto death. Verse 9 says,
and being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation
unto all them that obey him. This is our king. I love the thought that this
is my king, a real king, a real man, a real God who I am subject
to and will see his throne and will bow the knee before his
throne. I can't wait to physically do that. I do it in my heart
now, no matter how low he willingly became for us, we still see him
as the high king of heaven. At every stage of his, of what
he was made. He is the high king of heaven.
Simeon saw him in the temple when the Lord was eight days
old. Humanly speaking, eight days old. And as he held that
little baby in his arms, this is what he said. Lord, now let
us thou thy servant depart in peace. I can die in peace. For mine eyes have seen thy salvation. This is my king. God's people know that the Lord
Jesus Christ does not need anything. from anyone. We don't make him
anything. We do not at any time see him
as Jesus the man. This is our King. Our King. The Lord. Our King and our God. At that exact moment in time,
Simeon, he didn't see him as a helpless child. He saw his
salvation. I've seen salvation. This is
him. Hebrews 7, verse 25 says, Wherefore He is able also to
save them to the uttermost that come unto God by Him, seeing
He ever liveth to make intercession for them. For such an high priest
became us who is holy, harmless, Undefiled separate from centers
and made higher than the heavens. You know why? It's because he's
the king. All hail the king. All right,
let's stand together.
