Mysterious ocean. The seas were
quite rough at one point. We were looking out over it.
It was getting dark. And we began to talk about when
the Lord came walking to his disciples on that water. He really
did. He really did. And then again,
when he touched that ocean with a word, We are so blessed by
thinking about that. I'll go back to the Gospel of
John, chapter 6. I'll read a few verses with me
again. John, chapter 6, verses 37 through 40. All that the Father giveth me
shall come to me. And him that cometh to me I will
in no wise cast out. where I came down from heaven,
not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.
And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all
which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise
it up again at the last day. And this is the will of him that
sent me, that everyone which seeth the Son, and believeth
on him, may have everlasting life. And I will raise him up
at the last day. Verse forty-seven. Now, this
is the verse that really laid hold of me. The Lord
said, Barely, barely, I say unto you, he that believeth on me
hath everlasting life. John, later on, the apostle who
recorded this, he wrote later on, he said, these things have
I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God,
that you may know you have life. That you may know you have eternal
life and that you may believe and that you may further believe
on the name. The Lord didn't say these things.
Nor write these things for us to read. First, argue with our
minions. Or strive, as he said, with pot
shirt, but he wrote this us. As John said, that you may know
this is to us, the believer, those who believe on the Lord
Jesus Christ. This message is for your comfort
and your encouragement to build you up on this most holy faith,
which is Christ. And maybe the Lord will be pleased
to use this for someone else to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. Wouldn't
that be wonderful? Wouldn't that be wonderful? As I said, Brother
Sheasley read this a few weeks ago, and that verse 47, just,
it says, If the Lord spoke out loud to me, verily, verily, I
say unto you, the Lord Jesus Christ, who cannot lie, who is
the truth, he, that is, whosoever, she, he, whosoever, believe it
on me. have everlasting life. Now, the word barely, the word
barely is used throughout the scripture, mostly in the gospel,
but it's throughout the scripture. Most of the time it's spoken
one time. But if you look at your concordance in the gospel
of John, every time that the Lord says it. He says it twice,
for emphasis, and verily, and verily, I say unto you. Turn with me to the book of Revelation,
the Revelation chapter 3. As I have said, I don't always
look words up, but I looked this one up, and I'm glad I did. You know what the word and I
was so surprised. The word barely is the exact
same word. That's used throughout the scriptures
the word a man. It's the same word it's exact
same work what the Lord says is a man a man. I say. Now the word amen, if you don't
know, means truly, truly. It also means that's the way
it is. So be it. I don't preach for
amen, but I have a feeling I might hear one. If I could hear, I
would hear one. But let the amen, the amen sound
from his people again. When the Lord says this, he's
saying it's true, it's true. When we say that's what we're
that's right. That's right. He's saying so
be it. So be it. That's the way it is. This is the way it is. Look at
this is his name. You know his name is Amen. Look at chapter three verse 14
of the Revelation under the angel of the church of the land to
see and these things say the Amen. The Alpha, the Omega, the beginning,
the end, the faithful, the true witness, the Amen. In other words,
whatever he says is Amen. It's the truth. That's the way
it's going to be. You can't change it. See, all
the promises of God in him are what, John? Yea and Amen. Not maybe, not might, not if
you, if not, nothing. Our Lord said, Amen, Amen. It's done before you said it.
I say he that believe on me. Ever lasting life. And what all he said there and
that back in that chapter go back to John six all all the
promises of God are in him, yea, and amen to the glory of God
the Father. By us, we say amen. Aren't you glad that he said
it? That whatever he says is true,
amen to that. He that believeth, verily, verily,
I say unto you, here's the promise, he that believeth on me hath
everlasting life. Not will have, not shall have,
but hath. everlasting life is saved, what
does everlasting life mean? It means you're saved. It means
you're accepted. It means you're justified from
all things, which you cannot be justified in. It means you're
fully pardoned, completely exonerated, wholly unblameable, unrepentant. It means you're seated with Christ
right now in the heaven. You've passed from death unto
life, from darkness to light. Now, I'm not trying to make someone
in here this morning think that they're safe, but they're not.
I'm not trying to get someone saved. I hope the Lord be pleased
to do so. And I'm not worried about giving
someone false assurance of that. I hope I've ceased to worry about
that long ago. But all I want to do this morning
is repeat what the Lord Jesus Christ himself said. And hope
that the Holy Spirit will bear witness with someone's spirit
this morning that they have indeed believed on the Lord Jesus Christ
and that they may know that they have eternal life. That's all
I want to do. For your comfort, for your encouragement. Now hear
the Lord Jesus Christ very plainly, very plainly, barely, barely,
very plainly tells us what it means to have eternal life. Now the question is, what does
it mean to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ? Go back to John chapter one with
me. This is the question, isn't it?
He said, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. Do I believe on the Lord Jesus
Christ? What does that mean? What does
that mean? All right, here it says in John
chapter 1, verses 11 and 12, he came unto his own, that is
Christ, came unto his own, his own received him not. But as
many as received him, to them gave he power, the right, the
privilege, to become the sons of God, even to them that believe
on his name." And he went on to say, which
were born. If they do, they have life, he
said. The reason they believe is because
they have life. He that believeth hath life.
And that faith is the proof of it. Okay? What does it mean to
believe on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ? He that believeth on me, Christ
said, on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Well, to believe
on the Lord Jesus Christ is to believe who He is. It's to believe
what He did. It's to believe where He is now. You've heard this before. Who
he is, and those three names tell us those three things. Who
he is, what he did, where he is now. Lord, that's his name. That's not just his title. That's
his name, Lord. Lord means sovereign. He that
believeth on his name, that means all power, all authority is given
unto him in heaven and earth. Or as Colossians put it, everything
is under his divine control, all principalities, all things
created by him in heaven and earth, invisible, visible, thrones,
dominions, principalities, power, all things created by him and
for him. is none other than God Almighty
who made us. The one who came is God manifest
in the flesh, in whose hands our breath is in all our ways,
the Lord Jesus Christ. A brother and I were talking
not long ago, the two of us, and I said to him, I said, you
think about this. When the Lord Jesus Christ was
on this earth, As a man. I said. It'd be like you and
me standing here if if if you were the Lord himself and I was
one of the site. And perhaps I was older than
you and human you Peter James John we don't know how old they
were they could have been 40 years old. We don't know. But. And one of them looks at
that man, that flesh and blood man standing like them, and says
to that man, you're my God. He looks at a human being to
all practical purposes, a man, and he says, I believe that thou
art the God that made me." Do you believe that? Very few people do. Honestly,
very few people do. Do you believe? Do you believe
and are sure that that Jesus who came down here is none other
than God who made this land? Many call Him the Son of God,
but they don't believe He is God. If he's not, he can't say
that. If he's not, you're idolaters. You understand? When Thomas fell
at his feet and said, My Lord and my God. You see, here, O
Israel, the Lord our God is one God. Thou shalt worship no other. Thou shalt worship the Lord thy
God. Him alone shalt thou worship. Thomas fell at his feet and said,
You, this man, He said, You call me Lord and
Master, and you say, well, I am. They said, Well, tell us who
you are, John. They did, didn't they? The unbelievers said, Tell
us who you are. Tell us plainly, and we'll believe
you. He said, I told you. You believe not, because as I
said unto you, my sheep hear my voice. They know me. They
believe me. But you believe not because you're
not of my people. And he said, I'm the one, the
same which I said unto you in the beginning. Who's that? The
same one standing on that mountain that day with Moses. And Moses said, Whom shall I
say is sent there? That one there stood on this
earth. His name was Jesus. Oh, that's
his name. How do you refer to it? How do
you think of that one who walked here on this earth? How do you first think of that
one? Call him Lord, don't you? Call him Lord. The world doesn't
do that. They think of a man named Jesus,
and that's how they refer to him. How do you think of him? When you think of that Jesus,
Nancy, you call him Lord. At the name of Jesus, you say
Lord. and you're leaving you need.
You call him the Lord you're right. We're Jehovah's Witnesses. You call him the Lord your shepherd. Come, you that call him the Lord,
your banner, the Lord that healeth thee, the Lord, the Lord, the
Lord. I have never called that man once in my life, Henry. That's his name. I call him dad,
father. That's not his name. It is to
me. He's never just been my friend,
never just been my equal. I esteem him higher than me.
He's my father, whom I owe my life to. So it is. with all who
believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. You call, they call him Jesus.
I call him Lord. Jesus. Jesus. Call his name Jesus. Why? He's
our Joshua. That's what it means. Thou shalt
call his name Jesus, for he shall say, not might, not hope to,
not if anything, not no ifs, ands, or buts, but yea and amen.
He shall save his people from their sin. This is the Father's
will which has sent me, he said. My name is Joshua. This is the
Father's will that has sent me, that I bring every single one
he's given me into the promised land. Brother John, and it shall
be said in that day, He'll say it, Behold, I and the children
which thou hast given me, of all which thou hast given me,
I've lost nothing. Why? My name is Jesus. They have another Jesus who tried
and failed, who paid but didn't, who, you know, wants to and can't. is cast on, depends upon. This is what it means to believe
on Jesus. It means all your salvation is
resting upon His name, meaning what He is, Jesus. What He did,
did He save His people? Did He bring in an everlasting
righteousness? Did He? Did He pay for our sins? Huh? Did he impute his righteousness
to his people? Did he? Did God accept the sacrifice? Did he? That's his name. That's his name. That's what
he did. That's who he is. All authority. That's what he did. Saved his
people. Redeemed his people. The kinsman
redeemer. He's the surety. That's his next
name. Christ. That means the Messiah. That means the surety, the head
of the covenant, the testator of the will. That's what His
name means. And He said, Because I live.
See, a man named Jesus died. That's the substitute. A man
died. A man was made sin, but the Christ
lived forever. He said, Behold, I live, and
because I live, He said. you not might, not may, shall
live forever. Amen and amen to that. Verily,
verily, I say unto you, Christ is His name and Christ
is what He did. Ever live. Right now, He's at
the right hand of the majesty on high. And he said. He didn't come. Didn't he say all that the father
look at it again with John chapter six. Don't take my word for it. Take his though. John six. He said that he said verse thirty
seven again. This is not to argue with unbelievers. I've done it too many times.
The Lord didn't write this for goats, for us to butt heads with
goats. He wrote this for Stan Anderson.
Stan, all that the Father giveth me, he said, shall come to me.
Oh yes, this is the Father's will, that of everyone he hath
given me. He said, no man can come. Have
you come to the Lord Jesus Christ? Have you? Did you hear this morning? Why are you here? We don't have
anything here but the gospel of Christ, do we? We don't have
any entertainment. We don't have any fleshly things
to appeal, any programs. All we have, all we do is preach
Christ. Why'd you come here? Want to
hear about Christ? This is part of what it means to come to Christ.
He said, no man can come to me except the Father which has sent
me draw him. That means if you come, That
means the Father is calling you. If you come, not to come to church,
but to come to Christ, if you come to hear from Him, if you
come to worship Him, if you come to hear His Word again, the Father
is calling you. Amen to that. No man can, but
all who do. And He said, and he that cometh
to me, Oh, I've used this so long, too
many times, just to argue about the eternal security of the believers. But this is for my eternal security,
temporal security. He that cometh to me, I will
know why it is. He, chief of saints. She, young,
old, rich, poor, black, white. He, whosoever believes. If you come, you won't be cast
out. Oh, that's good news. So good
news. Well, look at 1 Peter 5 with
me. Here's what it means to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Peter chapter 5. Look there
quickly. 1 Peter 5. Now, the Lord didn't
say believe in Him. He didn't believe in me. believe on me. Although we do
believe in him we believe in his existence we do believe. That he came and lived and died,
but that's not what he said. But he said he that believeth
on me hath everlasting life. And a very simple illustration
is this. I've I believe that that is a
bench. I believe that is a bench. I
believe that bench is a solid bench. I believe it's a well-made
bench. I believe that that bench is
able to hold me up if I sit on it. I believe in that bench. To believe, how do you know?
What does it mean to believe on the bed? It means sit on it. Sit on it. And if it's truly
what I believed it was, it'll hold me up. Or a bed. You ever fallen on a bed? You wouldn't do that if you didn't
believe in that thing. But to fall on it is to cast
yourself on it. Look at it, verse Peter 5, verse
7, casting all your care upon him for he cares for you. That's
what it means to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, to cast all
your care, whatever you care about. Whatever you're concerned
about. All your care, casting all your
care, all your worries, all your fears, all your doubts, all your
yourself, your sins, your past, your present, your future, your
family, your job, your home, everything. Casting all the things
that give you worry and fear and anxiety and troubles and
try casting it all on I don't know if this is a good
illustration or not, but my little granddaughter, whether it's good
or not, I just enjoy talking about her. Boy, did we miss her, and my
daughter, and my son, and you. A while back, I was sitting in
my chair, my easy chair. She was playing there in front
of me, and I was sitting there reading or something, trying
to ignore her. I can't ignore her, and she won't
be ignored. But I was sitting there reading,
and all of a sudden, before I knew it, she had crawled up on my
footstool. That's a good thing. Crawled
up on my footstool, and she just dove. on me. I didn't tell her to, I didn't
urge her to, make her do it, but she just cast herself on
me. It's like she thought, I'll be
ready, doesn't matter, whenever, whatever. She evidently had total
confidence that I would catch her, that she would not be hurt
by it, and she just, she loved, obviously she loved me, she came
to me, and she just cast herself on me. Did I catch her? If we being evil know how to
care for you. Why are we of so little faith
in God? We're not better than God. We
don't love our children more than he does. will it catch you any time? Every
time. Every time. Every time. Your sins, I said
that to the cats, you can't do a thing about it. I'll tell you
who does. Old Paul said this, who we trust
in the living God, who hath delivered us from so great a death, who
doth deliver us, whom we trust shall yet deliver us. Trust me,
we cast all our on him, past, present and future. I trust,
I believe that he has told me to come and I've come. I trust
and I believe that he has given me this faith to cast my sins,
lay my sins on the head of my son. And I trust that right now, even
now, even while I'm still a sinner, that the blood of Christ still
does put away my sins. And I trust that he won't get it. That's
who he is. That's his name. That's why he
came. So cast all your sins, all your
fears, all your worries. Every one of us worry about the
future. Don't we? Yeah, we do. Jobs,
homes, families. Who gave us that? Health. Worry about our old age. It says, the Lord says here,
he carried, meaning that from the beginning, and he said this,
didn't he, Nancy, over in Isaiah, from your, from the cradle, even
unto your hoary head, that means gray, I'll carry you. He said, I bought you out before
I formed thee in the belly. And I have carried you from that
day, and I do now carry you, and I will yet carry you. I care for you, the Lord says. So, might as well cast it all
on him. We don't have it anyway. Right? He carried you. All your care.
Your family. What about your family? Who gave
you those children? Who gave you that spouse? Lord God, if it pleases Him,
we'll take Him. We'll know someday why. But until
then, we cast our care on Him. Our fears, our worries. Lord,
this Son You gave me is a prodigal son. I don't know what Your will is
for him. I wish, I hope that it would be for You to save him,
but if You don't, he's Yours. She's yours. You gave him or
her to me. Cast all your cares. Cast all
your... Lord, this home, you gave me.
Gave me the job, gave me the ability to earn a living, to
pay the payments and all that, but you gave it all to me. Naked
I came from my mother's womb, and it's certain now, naked I'll
end up that way, and I can take nothing with me. It's yours,
Lord. He that believeth on me hath
everlasting life. If you believe, if you have truly
cast all your care on him, You believe on him who he is. All your hope, all your salvation
is on him, on his shoulders, on his head. You have life. You say, I don't
feel like it. Well, wait, hold on here. Hold
on, hold on, hold on. Our Lord called it life. Neither
have not the Son, have not life. All right? Christ is life. When
I mention him and his gospel and all that, how does it affect
you? Let me put it this way. Life as we know it here on this
earth is involving family, friends, laughter, sit at the table, eat,
laugh some more, eat some more. That's what I did. all last week. Eat some more, laugh, eat, laugh,
eat, eat, eat. Rest, fellowship with the brethren. That's life as we know it. Joy,
happiness, laughter, isn't it? Our Lord called this life more
abundant. Joy that no man can take from
me. What do you enjoy more than anything
else? Let me just ask you from the
bottom of your heart to answer this question. If the Lord really
brings his word home to your heart, do you not find it the
joy and rejoicing of your heart? When you're here with these people,
do you love these people or do you not? This is how we know
we've passed from death. The wicked love their family.
The wicked love to laugh and all of that. You remember me telling you about
brother, old brother Henry Greenlove, when I was a boy, you know, listening
to him laugh during a message, during a Bible conference, old
brother Henry, every now and then. I remember thinking, what's
he laughing at? I know now. I was dead then. Now I know. It's holy laughter. These things give you joy, don't
they? The table, the gospel table. This is a beast at that thing. This gives you truly, you see,
our fellowship is with the Father and with the Son and with His
people. This is called a poor taste of glory divine. This is
where God's people really find life. Heed that belief. This is where it began. This
is where it starts. And he called it everlasting.
Not only because of the quality of it, that is, the life of it.
There was a time when you wouldn't have wanted to come in here and
sit and hear this. Me neither. There was a time
when it would have been like pulling teeth to get you to come
here. But then they asked you. Now it's, so to say, second nature. It is. And you don't have to
stop and think, am I going to go worship the Lord? What do
you mean? It's life. Right, Barbara? It's life. And you're loath to leave here. Path life. This is where it begins. But he called it everlasting
life. What has begun here will continue forever. Only perfect. If you enjoy these songs now,
these hymns, if you enjoy singing them now, just wait. Every last
thing, he said, I have not sung. He that hath seen the Son, and
believeth on him, I'll raise him up to the Lord." Have you
seen Christ's glory? Have you seen His beauty? Have
you seen in Him all you can think? Just wait. I haven't seen Him. The ear hadn't heard. Have you
heard His voice? Power, not in words only, but
power and the Holy Ghost, and much of it. Just wait. We're
going to actually hear the Son of God Himself say, Enter thou,
blessed of my Father. And all this because the Lord
Jesus Christ promised he that believeth on me, casting all your cares
on Him, heaven, heaven, everlasting life, spiritual life, everlasting,
never-ending life. Do you believe? Dost thou believe
on the Son of God? I hope so. All right. Thank you. I'm going to go ahead and say
that I'm going to go ahead and say that I'm going to go ahead
and say that I'm going to go ahead and say that I'm going
to go ahead and say that I'm going to go ahead and say that
