Okay. Let's pray together. Our Father, we ask your blessings
upon your Word tonight, that you would take the things of Christ and
show them to us, that you would cause our hearts
to burn as we look at the things concerning
him. Be with us, remove every care,
every thought that would hinder us from entering into your word. We ask for your spirit. Pray
for your people everywhere that meet in Christ's name tonight.
Amen. All right, Luke chapter 24. Luke
24. We had so much to cover and so
little time to do it. I hope you, well I hope the Lord
will give you attentive ears and minds. The story is our Lord
walking with his disciples, two of his disciples on the road
to a town called Emmaus. seven and a half miles, was this
walk. And it says in verse 27, this
is where we begin, verse 27, beginning at Moses and all the
prophets, or that is from Moses through all the prophets, that
is through all the Psalms and everything, through all the prophets.
He expounded unto them In all the scripture, the things concerning
him said, 39 books, 39 books in the Old Testament. So he preached
to them at least two, maybe three hours, seven and a half mile
walk. And they, I'm sure, slowed the
pace as he began to preach to them. until they were just shuffling
along. I'm sure they would stop at times
and just in a wonder and amazement. So this walk probably took four
hours while he preached to them through the whole Old Testament. And in verse 28 and 29, they
drew nigh unto the village. They came to Emmaus where they
went, where they were going, and he made as though he would
have gone further. He acted as if they came to their
home. in this town of Emmaus, and he
acted like he was just going to keep on walking. They said,
no, don't go. Verse 29, they constrained him,
said, abide with us. Stay with us. Would you come
in and stay a while? Now, they still didn't know it
was the Lord. They said, it's toward evening. Abide with us.
Fast falls at evening time. The darkness deepens. Would you
with us abide? And he went in to tarry with
them. Verses 30 and following. And
it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, they fixed some
dinner. He took bread and blessed, or
that is, gave thanks, and broke that bread and gave it to them. And they knew who it was. Their
eyes were opened and they knew him. And he vanished. And they said, one to another,
did not our hearts burn? Did not our heart burn within
us while he talked with us, by the way, and while he opened
us to Scripture? Didn't your heart burn, Cleopas?
Mine did. It sure did. Well, we don't have
four hours tonight, do we? No, we don't. We don't even have
two hours, so I'd love to go through every book in the Old
Testament, but time won't allow it, so we're going to have to
go through some select passages. All right? Gird up your loins. Gird up your loins of your mind.
I know you're tired, but maybe the Lord will give us heartburn.
Bind your sandals on your feet. Preparation of the gospel. Got
your staff in your hand? Got your staff in your hand?
Well, let's take a walk. And talk of these things. Now,
the Lord, I'm sure he preached things that we have never seen
before. I'm certain of that. That he preached times we have
never seen before. Maybe we will. Maybe we won't. But there's some things I am
quite certain that he dealt with. Genesis 1. Genesis chapter 1. I'm quite certain that the Lord
began where the scriptures began. In the beginning, God created
the heaven and the earth. Genesis 1.1. Now, how he presented these things
in such a way that he was not talking about himself is a mystery. Did you think of that? Because
they still didn't know it was him until after they got home
and broke break. So he was talking about the Christ.
He was talking about maybe he was referring to Jesus of Nazareth. Think about that. But I thought
of this. Why the Lord did that? Why it
happened that way is the Lord put such a premium on preaching. That's amazing. You know, the
Lord puts such a high steam upon preaching and the preacher of
the gospel. That's what he did. They didn't know it was the Lord,
but they were absolutely taken with the preaching of the gospel.
As far as they knew, Dan was just some preacher. But they
sure loved what they were hearing. Well, Genesis 1, he said, in
the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth. In the
beginning was the Word. The Word is with God. Jesus of
Nazareth is the Word. Jesus is the Christ. He was the
Word. He was with the Father from the beginning. Without him
was not anything made which was made. He's God. And then he told them how that
man fell in Adam. Man fell according to God's purpose. All things work according to
his purpose. You know he dealt with the woman's
seed. This is where the Lord first
preached the gospel, Genesis 3. Adam and Eve, first sinners. God says the Word came walking,
that was Christ, came walking in the garden and preached the
gospel of that first man and woman, that first sinner. Verse
15, he said, I'll put enmity between the serpent and the woman.
his seed and her seed, and it shall bruise thy head, and thou
shalt bruise his heel." And that's talking about the offspring of
woman, no man. This was not a man's child. This was God's Son, and that
Son of God was Jesus of Nazareth, who is the Christ. In Genesis
4, maybe he dealt with Abel's sacrifice. Abel's sacrifice? Genesis 4, verse 4, it says that
Abel brought the firstling of his flock, the fat bearer of,
this is the first mention of a lamb, first mention of a sacrifice. God had respect unto Abel and
his offering. The only acceptance with a holy
God is through the sacrifice of a spotless substitute. And that substitute was Jesus
of Nazareth, who is Christ, who is God's Lamb. You heard John
say that, didn't you? Genesis 22. You reckon he went
there? Of course, we passed up Noah's Ark. Genesis 22. You've heard of Abraham, the
father of the faithful? Abraham and his son Isaac, how
all the people of the earth are blessed through the father Abraham
and his promised son Isaac. Well, it all started right here,
Genesis 22, when God told Abraham to take his son, his only son,
his well-beloved son, up on that Mount Moriah and sacrifice him
as a burnt offering to God, verse 13 and 14. When they got there
and Abraham was about to slay his only begotten well-beloved
son, he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him
a ram was caught in the thicket by his horn. And Abraham went
and laid hold on that ram and offered him, offered that ram
for a burnt offering in the stead of, as a substitute, in the place
of his son. And then that ram, that substitute,
that one offered in the stead of Abraham's son is a picture
of Jesus of Nazareth, who is the Christ, who is a substitute
of every one of God's children. Genesis 37 through 45. Turn to
chapter 45. These are the chapters concerning
Joseph. You reckon he dealt with Joseph?
How Joseph's brethren sold him into slavery. They hated him.
They were jealous of him. But he was his father's favorite
son. How his father gave him a coat
of distinction and favored him above all of
his children. Yet his sons hated Joseph. And they sold him into slavery.
Yet God put him there. Genesis 45. Look at verse 7.
And this is Joseph's conclusion. God sent me before you to preserve
you of posterity in the earth, to save your lives by a great
deliverance. Now, these men didn't have a
Bible on them. The Lord's just quoting this
to them. He didn't need one either. But I'm sure he's quoting it
verbatim to them. So he said, now it was not you
that sent me hither, but God. And God hath made me a father
to favor, Lord of all his house, ruler throughout all. Genesis
50, the last of Genesis 50. This is wonderful. Verses 19
and 20. You have it? We'll have to turn
fast, folks. We've got 38 more books. 50 verses 19 and 20, Joseph said
unto them, fear not. I am I in the place of God. As
for you, you thought evil against me, but God made it unto good
to bring the past as it is this day to save much people alive.
Fear not. I'm going to nourish you. I'm
going to take care of you. This was all of God. God put
me here. Joseph is a picture of Christ.
That Jesus of Nazareth is the Christ. He came. God sent him.
God wounded him. God bruised him. Men did what
they wanted to do, but they did what God determined before to
be done. To send him to do a great deliverance, to spare as much
people alive, and all of those whom he died for, he will nourish
the rest of their days and present them to the Father. That whole
story is about that Jesus of Nazareth, who is the Christ.
Exodus. Exodus. Where do we begin? The story of Moses. Scripture says he was a goodly
child hidden in an ark. What about, you reckon, he preached
from Exodus 12? Passover lamb? Exodus 12? I'm
quite certain of it. Exodus chapter 12. Look at verse
5 and 6, Exodus 12. It talks about a lamb, a lamb
without blemish, a male of the first year. That is the first
born of that particular ewe. It'll be taken from the sheep,
from the goats, from the midst of the flock. Keep it up to the
14th day. Observe it. Make sure it's without
spot, without blemish, the perfect lamb. Make sure everyone sees
there's no fault in it. And then the whole congregation
will kill it. Everyone will lay hold on that lamb and kill it. They'll kill it. And in verse
13, and then you're going to take that blood of that lamb
and strike it on the doorpost and the lintel of that house.
In verse 13, the blood shall be to you for a token upon the
houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will
pass over you. The plague shall not be upon
you, destroy you because of the blood. People, men, Cleophas, that blood was the
blood of that one who hung on Calvary's tree on Golgotha's
hill. That blood of that sacrifice
is what spares God's wrath against you. God sees the blood and he
passes over you in mercy and grace and in love and salvation. That's why. I'm just certain
he preached that. Exodus 16, perhaps the manna,
huh? Exodus 16, the bread from heaven. Why he mentioned this so many
times, didn't he? I am the bread. I am the bread. Exodus 16. Folks, you don't know how tempting,
how tough it was to just breeze through these things. Exodus
16, verses 14 and 15. One day the people went out and
when the dew that lay was gone up, verse 14, behold, upon the
face of the wilderness, upon the face of the wilderness, there
lay a small round thing, small as a hoarfrost on the ground.
And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another,
what is it? What is it? That's what manna
means. What is it? Because they wished
not what it was. We've never seen anything like
it. The likes of this we've never seen before. Why, bread has come
down from heaven. And Moses said, this is the bread
which the Lord has given you to eat. And it describes that
bread over in the latter part of the chapter and says it was,
it tasted like wafers dipped in honey. Christ said, He didn't say I'm bread, but He
said, Jesus of Nazareth, who is the Christ. You remember him
saying, I am the bread from heaven, the bread of life. He that eateth
me shall never hunger again. Sweet savor to all that partake
of it. Leviticus. What about Leviticus?
Where do we go there? Leviticus 8. Look at this real
quickly. Leviticus 8. Leviticus chapter 8. Oh, there's
so much in Leviticus. You know what, I've got a book
and I want to maybe we'll start going through Leviticus. But
it was pointed out to me that the book of Leviticus has more,
the whole book of Leviticus has more of the direct word of God
himself. In other words, the whole book
is God talking. to Moses about, I mean, every
jot and tittle of everything concerning all the worship and
the things. It's the whole book of Leviticus.
That makes it pretty special, doesn't it? Well, Leviticus chapter
8, look at the verses. This is a concentration of Aaron.
Leviticus 8, verses 7 and following, put upon Aaron the coat. girded
him with a girdle, clothed him with a robe, put an ephod upon
him, girded him with a curious girdle of ephod, bounded upon
him, put the breastplate upon him, the breastplate with the
urim in the thumb, the mitre on his head, golden plate, the
holy crown as the Lord. The Lord took anointing oil,
Moses took anointing oil, anointed the tabernacle and all that was
therein, sanctified, sprinkled upon it. He poured, verse 12,
the anointing oil upon Aaron's head and anointed him to sanctify
him. That high priest represents God's
one and only and final and eternal high priest, Jesus of Nazareth.
He's the one, the great chief, the only, the one mediator between
God and men, the one who himself took his own precious blood into
the Holy of Holies, heaven itself. Not lamb, not bull, not turtle
dove, but his own precious blood into the very holy of holies
where God is supported on the mercy seat. Because him hath
God anointed, him hath God chosen. He is God's high priest to make
this offering on behalf of his people. Numbers. And there's so much in Leviticus.
The year of Jubilee. Everybody goes for it. Numbers,
and so much in numbers, the price of redemption, Aaron's rod that
led us. Aaron's rod that led us. Numbers
21. I know, I know he preached it. You say, how do you know?
Because he did. He preached this to Nicodemus
in John chapter 3. Numbers 21, or yes, John chapter
3, verse 14, which few know. Most know verse 16, but John
chapter 3 verse 14, if Moses lifted up the serpent in the
wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up. Whosoever
looketh to him, believeth in him, should not perish. Numbers
21 verse 6, it says the Lord sent fiery serpents among the
people, and they bit the people. Much people of Israel died. Verse
9, And Moses made a serpent of brass and put it upon a pole
like unto that serpent. And it came to pass that if a
serpent had bitten any man, that when he beheld the serpent of
brass, when he just looked at the serpent of brass, he lived. He heard me preach from that
sample. I guarantee you he did. I guarantee you. And he said,
men, that one hanging on the tree, was the one whom God has
hung there for you to look upon. You've been bitten by that serpent,
started in the garden, the serpent of sin. But if you behold him,
Christ crucified in your behalf, you'll live. You'll live forever. Well, Deuteronomy. Well, the
city's a refuge. The city's a refuge. That's Numbers 35, but also Deuteronomy
4. But look at Deuteronomy 18. Deuteronomy
18. I don't know for sure, but he
just may have dealt with it. Deuteronomy 18, verse 15. The Lord thy God will raise up
unto thee a prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren,
like unto Moses. unto him you shall hearken. Verse
18, I will raise him up a prophet from among their brethren, like
unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak
unto them all that I shall command him. Christ said those very things. He said the words that I speak,
I speak not of myself, but of the Father which is in heaven. Jesus of Nazareth was that prophet,
the one to end all prophecies. That's the whole book. He probably
preached the whole book of Joshua. Joshua himself is a whole type
of Christ. Go to Judges, though. Judges. Very quickly. Judges, chapter
6. This is John Sheehan's favorite
book. Judges, chapter 6. And time would
fail us, wouldn't it? To tell of Samson. Remember Jephthah, that mighty
man of Babylon? What about this fellow named
Gideon? Judges chapter 6 verse 14. The Lord looked upon him, that
is Gideon, and said, Go in this thy might. Thou shalt save Israel
from the hand of the Midianites, had not I sent thee. Gideon, Gideon. like all the
rest of God's men, raised up by God, sent by God, God's great
captains, God's saviors, all types of Jesus of Nazareth, who
is the Christ, who is the Messiah, who is the Savior of his people,
a mighty man whom God sent. Ruth, what's your favorite? What is
your favorite story in all the Old Testament I got to Ruth and
I just about couldn't walk. I would have to say that the
Book of Ruth is my favorite. Ruth, right after Judges, Ruth.
Look at Ruth, Chapter 2. Men, the Book of Ruth is not
about Ruth. And I bet he didn't call it the
Book of Ruth. I bet he called it the Book of
Boaz. But chapter 2 of Ruth, it says
in verse 2, 2 and 3, Ruth the Moabitess said unto Naomi, Let
me now go to the field and glean ears of corn after him in whose
sight I shall find grace. And she said, Go, my daughter.
And she went and came and gleaned in the field after the reaper.
And her hat was to light on a part of the field belonging unto Boaz. Verse 16, And old Boaz took notice
of her. Oh, Boaz set his affection on
her, gave orders concerning her, gave commandments to his young
men concerning her, to watch her, saying, That's mine. That
one is mine. Verse 16, And he said, Let fall
also some handfuls of purples for her, and leave them there,
that she may glean them, and rebuke her not. Chapter 3, verse
11 and 12. And then Ruth came to where Boaz
was that night, and Boaz said to her, verse 11, My daughter,
fear not. I will do to thee all that thou
requirest. And verse 12 said, Now it is
true that I am thy near kinsman. And verse 14 says, She's laid
at his feet all night long. Men, women, Boaz is Jesus of
Nazareth, the Christ, the kinsman redeemer, sent by God for all
his people to redeem them, to buy back all that they lost in
the fall of Adam. And he restored it all, and he
took her, took his people to be his wife, and will present
her someday to his father. Is your heart burning yet? Can
you imagine the Lord expanding these things? We've never heard
these things preached on. We've never heard them preached
before. We will someday. What about 1st and 2nd Samuel?
Where do we go there? Where do we go in 1st and 2nd
Samuel? Do we start with Samuel? Did he preach on Samuel? Young
Samuel. Prophets, priests, and kings. Only man. other than the Lord
himself, God, who was prophets, priests, and king, Samuel. Samuel, special child. What about
David? What about David? Let's start with David. First
Samuel 16. First Samuel 16. King of Israel,
sweet psalmist, man after God's own heart. First Samuel 16, David's
anointing. Did our Lord start here, where
the Lord sent Samuel to find his king. Verse 1, the last line,
the Lord said, I have provided me a king among Jesse's sons. Verse 3, anoint him, anoint unto
me him whom I name unto thee, him whom I name, him whom I've
given a name above every name. Anoint him. Verse 12, when Samuel
saw him, When he came in before Samuel, the Lord said, Arise,
anoint him, and this is he. This is my king, the man after
my own heart. Ladies, men, Jesus of Nazareth,
who himself is called the son of David, is God's man, God's
king, the sweet psalmist of Israel, the man after God's own heart,
the anointed of God, the king of kings, and the Lord of Lords. What about, where do we go? What about David slaying Goliath?
Wouldn't you like to hear the Lord preaching on that? David
slaying Goliath? What about David and Jonathan? Let me tell you, Cliff, this
is about a story about a fellow named whom the Lord spared because
of a covenant. David spared because of a covenant
he made with his beloved John. Correct me if I said that? Perhaps. Go to 1 Kings, for time's sake.
1 Kings? 1 Kings. What about the king
of kings? Do you remember that story? Do
you remember that story where one of those fellas raised himself
up and said, I'll be king, but David all the time had That Solomon
in mind? Remember that fellow said it
in the audience himself? Remember that story? In the first Kings
1? And David said, I've got my king, Solomon. Solomon. It doesn't matter. But first
Kings chapter 10. Go over here. First Kings chapter
10. Maybe this is your favorite.
For a woman named Sheba. She was Queen of Sheba. We don't
know her name. The Queen of Sheba came to hear
from Solomon. Oh, I love this story. She came
to hear the wisdom of Solomon and says, when she saw... Where
do you begin reading? Verse 14, when the Queen of Sheba...
1 Kings 10, verse 4, when the queen of Sheba had seen all of
Solomon's wisdom, the house that he built, the meat of his table. Verse 5, the attendance of his
minister, their apparel, the cupbearers, his assent, the way
he walked up the steps into the house of the Lord. She had no more spirit there.
And she said to the king, verse 6, it was true, everything I've
heard in my own land of your acts and of your wisdom, Howbeit,
I didn't believe the words until I came, and mine eyes had seen
it. And behold, the half was not told me. Your wisdom, your
prosperity, exceeded the things which I have heard. Happy are
thy men, happy are these thy servants, which stand continually
before thee. that hear thy wisdom. Blessed
be the Lord thy God, which delighteth in thee, to set you on the throne
of Israel, because the Lord loved Israel forever. He made you king.
Men, ladies, I pray that Solomon was here. Jesus of Nazareth. Wisdom personified. His ascent,
his cupbearers, his table, his meat, his throne. Temple. The Ark. How about Ezra? Nehemiah? What about Zerubbabel? You reckon he touched on Zerubbabel?
Who is this Zerubbabel? Esther. That's your favorite? Esther. What about King Ahasuerus
holding out the golden scepter to Esther? and accepting everybody
on behalf of Esther. Man, ladies, Esther, as with
every person in Scripture, represents his person, the Christ, the Son
of the Most High God. Job's Redeemer. You reckon he
went to Job 19? Job said, I know my Redeemer
liveth. He sure does. He sure does. What about the
Psalms? We've got to touch on the Psalms.
Which one, Stan? Which one? Let's go to the first
one. All right, let's start where
David started. The book of Psalms, chapter 1,
verse 1. Blessed is the man. Blessed is
the man. Blessed is the man. You men remember when Pilate
said, Behold, the man? God. Blessed is the man. Jesus of Nazareth was the man
that walked not in the counsel of the ungodly, that standeth
not in the way of sinners, who sat not in the sea of the scornful,
but his delight was in the law of the Lord. In the law of the
Lord did he meditate day and night, and now he's like a tree.
planted by the rivers of water, bringing forth fruit in his season.
And his leaf, his fruit, his salvation shall not wither. Whatsoever
he doeth, whatsoever he hath done, hath prospered." Blessed
man, he could have gone to Psalm 22, couldn't he? You reckon? Where everything that our Lord
said and everything that happened to him on Calvary's tree was
recorded. Psalm 22. Well, Proverbs 8, where
do you begin in Proverbs? Proverbs 8, wisdom personified? Well, don't turn there. Go to
Ecclesiastes. Ecclesiastes, the next book, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes
chapter 1, the whole book of Proverbs. But Ecclesiastes chapter
1, I saw this. Really, I'm thinking about Ecclesiastes.
I thought, where, what, what is it? What speaks of Christ
here? And verse one just jumped out
at me. The words of the preacher, the
son of David, King of Jerusalem. Well, the whole book is the word
of the preacher. Christ said, I've come to preach.
And he's the son of God, and he's King of Jerusalem. Ecclesiastes. What about the psalm of Solomon? What about the psalm of Solomon? You reckon he touched on that
yet? Jesus of Nazareth is the beloved one. The beloved of all
black Shulamite maidens. Oh my. Isaiah. Isaiah. What's your favorite
book? What's your favorite story? What
would you like to hear the Lord preach from? Isaiah. What about Isaiah 6? I saw the
Lord. High and lifted up. You remember Jesus of Nazareth,
a man, lowly, riding on a donkey? He's high and lifted up. Boy,
what about Isaiah 7? Isaiah 7, verse 14, he mentioned
this. The Lord himself shall give you
a sign. Behold, a virgin shall conceive
and bear a son. You see, this is the woman's
sin. Christ was born of a virgin. Mary knew not of man when Jesus
was born of her. Because he was born of a virgin,
just as Isaiah prophesied in Isaiah 7, 14. Because that child
was born. His name is called Emmanuel.
God is with us. Isaiah 9, verse 6. Nine, six. Unto us a child is born. Yes,
a baby, named Jesus, was born. A man, but the eternal Son is
given. The Son of God ascended to this
earth, went into a body, the government upon His shoulders.
His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, the Mighty God. The Everlasting Father, the Prince
of Peace. Do you remember him telling Thomas,
he that hath seen me, seen the Father? Do you remember that,
Cleopas? Jesus of Nazareth is the mighty
God, the Everlasting Father. Oh, he was born a baby, but he
was the eternal Son. And the government's on his shoulders.
What about Isaiah 42, my servant? What about Isaiah 42, the covenant
of What about, where do you think I'm going with that? Isaiah 53. If I'm certain of
anything, if I'm certain of one place where he preached, it's
Isaiah 53. Isaiah 53. I'm quite certain
of that. Holy Spirit, bear witness with
our spirit that our Lord must have spoken from there. Verse
5, he was wounded for our transgression. He was bruised for our iniquities.
The chastisement of our peace was upon him, and with his stripes
we are healed. Cleophas, God laid on him your
iniquities. God gave him the weapon you deserve. God made him sin for you, he
who knew no sin, that you might be made the righteousness of
God in him. Yet Jesus of Nazareth took the
wrath of God When he cried on Calvary's tree, My God, my God,
why art thou forsaken me? God was sending him through the
hell that you deserve, so that you might go to the heaven you
don't deserve. Yes, God laid on him your iniquity. God spared not his own son, but
delivered him up for you and all his people. And Isaiah 53
verse 10 says, It pleased the Lord to bruise him. He hath put
him to grief. He made his toll an offering
for sin. And he shall see his seed. Cleophas, you're going
to see him again. You're going to see him again.
And that, quite shortly. And he shall prolong his days,
the pleasure of the Lord prospered in his hands. Is he still with
me? Thirty minutes. Jeremiah. What about Jeremiah? The balm of Gilead, a great physician.
But go to Lamentations. Go to Lamentations, right after
Jeremiah. Lamentations chapter 3. I'll never forget when my
pastor first preached it. First time I heard my pastor
preach from it, I thought, my heart's burning. My heart's on
fire. Lamentations 3, verses 1 through
3. I am the man. that hath seen
affliction by the rod of his wrath. He hath led me, and brought
me into darkness, not into light. Surely against me is he turning. He turneth his hand against me
all the day." Christ is that man who took the affliction for
us, the rod of God's wrath. That's who Jesus of Nazareth
was. Ezekiel, the glory of the Lord,
the Son of Man. Daniel, son of God. Let's go
to that. Let's go to Daniel chapter three.
All right. Right after Ezekiel. Daniel chapter
three. You remember this? Daniel chapter
three. You remember when old Nebuchadnezzar
threw those three fellas in the fire? Daniel chapter three. He threw three fellas named Shadrach,
Meshach, and Abednego in a burning furnace. And verse 24 says Nebuchadnezzar
came to the furnace and was astonished. He rose up in haste and said,
Did not we cast three men into the fire? They said, Yes, it's
true, O king. And he answered and said, Lo,
I see four. Loose! And the fourth is like
the Son of God. Ah, Cleophas. Jesus of Nazareth
was in the fiery furnace with those men. The same one who walked
in the garden and spoke to Adam walked in the furnace and set
them free. And they came out and stayed
in it. Chapter 7, the Son of Man,
Hosea. What about Hosea, Nancy? Is that
your favorite? Hosea, the Lord told Hosea, go
marry a woman. A no good, worthless woman. Go marry her. Set your love and your affection
upon her. I know you could have any woman, but take her. Take her. And someday leave her,
parade her down the hall with her on your arm as your beloved. What about Joel? Joel, chapter
2. Joel, right after the book of
Hosea. Joel. You know, I just might be a deal
with all 39 books. Joel, chapter 2. The coming day
of the Lord. Look at this. Maybe you've never
seen this before. Joel, chapter 2. All the way through here,
it talks about the coming day of the Lord. Verse 1, blow ye
the trumpet in Zion, sound an alarm in my holy mount. Let all
the inhabitants of the land tremble for the day of the Lord coming.
It is nigh at hand. Verse 11, the Lord shall utter
his voice. He's coming. He's coming. Verse
32, and whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall
be delivered. Shall be delivered. That one who came, Jesus of Nazareth,
is that one. The day of the Lord has come,
and whosoever shall call shall be delivered. Amos, the next
book, Amos chapters 1 and 2, that's the fire of the Lord ascended
all the way through. I was taken, you know, seven
times. Seven times. It says in verse
4, I'll send the fire. Verse 7, I'll send the fire.
Verse 10, I'll send the fire. Verse 12, I'll send the fire.
Verse 14, I'll kindle the fire. Chapter 2, verse 2, I'll send
the fire. Verse 5, I'll send the fire. Jesus of Nazareth was the fire,
a fuller soap and a refiner of fire, who came to fire the Lord
and to devour all his enemies before him. Obediah, next book,
Obediah. Look at verse 8 in Obediah. It's
a little like this. Verse 8. Shall I not in that
day, saith the Lord, destroy the wise men out of Edom, and
the understanding out of the mountains? I've never seen that before,
Jeanette. I've never seen that before. The Lord has the soul
to destroy. The wise and the prudent. He had hidden these
things from the wise and the prudent, and revealed them unto
babe. Verse 17, look at verse 17. Upon
Mount Zion shall be deliverance. Holiness. House of Jacob shall
possess their possession. Verse 21. Savior shall come upon
Mount Zion. That's his holy apostle. Well,
hurry. Look at What about Jonah? You reckon the Lord preached
on Jonah? Verse 11 and 12. Jonah 1, 11, and 12. You got it? Jonah 1, 11, and
12. The man said to Jonah, What shall
we do unto thee, that the sea may be calm unto us? The sea
wrought and was tempestuous. And he said unto them, Jonah
said unto them, Here's what you do. Take me up. Lift me up, cast me into the
sea, and the sea will be calm to thee." I know for my sake
is this great testimony. What about verse 17? Now the
Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. Jonah was
in the belly of the fish three days and three nights. Christ, Jesus was in the heart
of the earth three days, just like Jonah in the belly's whale,
because this sin that's upon you, he took it away. He was,
he suffered death for your sake. What about chapter two, verse
nine? Mary, you know this verse don't you? Know it by heart.
This is our, this is our Landmark verse Jonah 2 verse 9, it says,
How sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving I'll
pay that that I have vowed. That's Christ talking. Salvation
is of the Lord. Salvation is of the Lord. Micah
chapter 5 verse 2, Bethlehem's infinite. Micah 5 verse 2, Thou
Bethlehem epitaph, though you be little among the thousands.
Out of these shall he come forth unto me, whose ruler in Israel,
who is going forth, hath been from of old, and of everlasting."
That's Micah 5, verse 2. Nahum, the next book. Nahum,
chapter 1, all the way through. The Lord, the jealous one, the
avenger, the good, the strong, the mighty Lord. Habakkuk. Habakkuk
talking about, I work a work, and you won't believe it, but
one told me. Zephaniah chapter 3 verse 17. That's the mighty one. Zephaniah
3 verse 17. The Lord thy God's in the midst
of thee is mighty. He'll save. He'll rejoice over
thee with joy. He'll rest in his love. He'll
joy over thee with sin. You all remember Cleopas. The Lord's singing with you.
That's this one. Zephaniah's book. Haggai. Haggai. Chapter 2, verse 7, I'll
shake all nations, as the desire of all nations shall come. I'll
fill this house with glory, saith the Lord above. Fill this house
with glory. Oh, glory. Glory. What about Zachariah? You've
got to turn there. Zachariah 4. You've got to turn
there. Everybody in this room has got
to look at this. This is the top stuff. This is the cap stuff.
Zechariah 4, verse 7, you reckon the Lord dealt with this? Who
art thou, O great mountain, before it is irrevocable? You'll become
a plain. He'll bring forth a headstone
thereof. He's going to put the headstone
on this temple, on this wall, with shouting, crying, grace,
grace unto it. Verse 10, Who hath despised the
day of small things? They shall rejoice and see the
plummets, and the hand is irrevocable with those seven eyes of the
Lord that run to and fro through the earth. Then Malachi, Malachi
chapter 3, Malachi chapter 3, verse 1, Malachi 3 verse 1, Behold,
I will send my messenger And he shall prepare the way before
me." Cleophas, John the Baptist, was the messenger of Jesus of
Nazareth, the Christ, the Lord. And he prepared the way. And
the Lord, whom you seek, shall suddenly come to his temple,
messenger of the covenant, whom you delight in, shall come, said
the Lord. Now turn back to our text real
quickly and look at this again with Luke 24. After our Lord
preached these things and many, many more, three, four, maybe
five hours or longer, who knows? In Luke 24, after they heard these things,
verse 31 and 32, their eyes were opened. And they knew him, and
he vanished out of their sight. And they said one to another,
"'Tis not our hour, Father.'" Mighty poor job. A mighty poor job. But I just
have a notion that the Lord is going to do this very thing.
when we get to Glover. We walk those streets of Glover,
Dan, I just haven't had a hunch that he's going to start in the
beginning and start preaching. And we will have eternal heart-marking. Eternal heart-marking. All right,
rise with me. Our Heavenly Father, thank you
for this book, the old, old story, the old paths
wherein is Christ, the good way, the way, the truth, and the life,
the gospel. Thank you, Lord, for revealing
these things to us. Forgive us. You've been so good
to us in revealing these things to us time and time and time
again. to where they've almost become
commonplace. Forgive us. While the world has
not heard perhaps none of these things,
we've heard them all time and again and even more. They've
been so good to us. Lord, forgive us. Cause our hearts
to burn when we hear these things. We ask that you go with your
people this week, bring something to mind, some passage that we've
looked at tonight, something that you have, in your purpose,
have caused to reach their heart. And may they think on these things
to get them through the week. Here's my prayer, our prayer.
In Christ's name we pray. Amen. Thank you.
